More Polls From Ohio and Texas

Friday, February 29th, 2008

Some polls from Ohio and Texas to head into the weekend with as the consensus forming seems to be Obama with a small lead in Texas and Hillary with a small lead in Ohio. First, the latest numbers from…get ready for it…American Research Group!

PRESIDENT – TEXAS – DEM PRIMARY (ARG)
Barack Obama 51%
Hillary 44%

PRESIDENT – OHIO – DEM PRIMARY (ARG)
Hillary 50%
Barack Obama 45%

Both polls were done February 27-28 among 600 likely voters. In case you are still hoping for that miracle, McCain leads Huckabee by 39% in Texas and 42% in Ohio in the same polls. Fox News and Opinion Dynamics shows the same Texas/Ohio split between Hillary and Obama.

PRESIDENT – TEXAS – DEM PRIMARY (Fox News/OD)
Barack Obama 48%
Hillary 45%

PRESIDENT – OHIO – DEM PRIMARY (Fox News/OD)
Hillary 46%
Barack Obama 38%

These polls were done February 26-28 among 600 likely voters. No GOP numbers that I saw. Scott Rasmussen has Hillary’s lead in Ohio down to a mere 2%.

PRESIDENT – OHIO – DEM PRIMARY (Rasmussen)
Hillary 47%
Barack Obama 45%

This poll was done February 28th among 851 likely voters. And finally (at least for now), the latest BELO tracking poll puts Obama ahead in Texas for the first time in this poll.

PRESIDENT – TEXAS – DEM PRIMARY (BELO)
Barack Obama 46%
Hillary 45%

This edition of the tracking poll was done February 25-27. I am sure we will get more all weekend long….

3AM Eternal (UPDATED – Obama Responds)

Friday, February 29th, 2008

Anybody rememebr who sung that song?

Hillary’s latest attempt to highlight Barack Obama’s inexperience.

I am sorry and I realize it is supposed to be a serious ad, but I actually laughed the first time I saw it when the narrator said Hillary “already knows world leaders”. Remember this from just week?blockquote>

It’s a decent ad ad maybe Democrats have a different reaction, but I honestly do not see any difference between Hillary and Obama and their experience or judgement when it comes to foreign policy, so it really doesn’t resonate on any level with me. It only reinofrces my opinion that the person I want on the other end of the phone on a 3am call about some foreign policy emergency is John McCain, not Hillary or Obama.

By the way, it was The KLF. That was from back in the day when I, for some reason, liked “techno” music….

UPDATED (3:26pm): Wow, check out the response from the Obama campaign to Hillary’s ad as reported by MSNBC.

On a conference call to respond to the “3 am” ad that the Clinton campaign went on air with today, former Secretary of the Navy Richard Danzig, an Obama supporter, gave a terse response when asked if Clinton should drop out after March 4th.

“I would encourage you on March 5th to call Sen. Clinton at 3 a.m. and ask that question,” Danzig said.

In the words of Ron Simmons – DAMN!

Obama Leads In Texas, Hillary Leads In Ohio

Friday, February 29th, 2008

Democrat John Zogby has the poll numbers from his own party for the states of Ohio and Texas.

PRESIDENT – TEXAS – DEM PRIMARY
Barack Obama 48%
Hillary 42%

PRESIDENT – OHIO – DEM PRIMARY
Hillary 44%
Barack Obama 42%

These polls were done February 26-28 among 708 likely voters in Ohio and 704 likely voters in Texas. On the GOP side, McCain leads Huckabee by 26% in Texas and 43% in Ohio, if that really matters at this point.

MD-1: Will Gilchrest Endorse Democrat?

Friday, February 29th, 2008

The more I read about Wayne Gilchrest, the more happy I am about his massive defeat in the primary earlier this month. Check out this excerpt from The Hill.

A top aide to ousted Rep. Wayne Gilchrest (R-Md.) criticized the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) on Tuesday for not sharing polling information it had on the race prior to the Feb. 12 primary.

Campaign manager and chief of staff Tony Caligiuri also suggested that Gilchrest didn’t receive help from the committee because he hasn’t raised much money for the party in years past. He said that sends a strange message to other incumbents who might face primaries in the future.

Huh? Is Gilchrest (or his campaign manager) suggesting the party should endorse incumbents regardless of how they act once they are in office, especially if they are someone who votes with Nancy Pelosi more than anyone else? Then there is this.

Caligiuri left open the possibility that Gilchrest might endorse Kratovil in the general election after a nasty primary battle with Harris.

Remember, Gilchrest is the guy endorsed by President Bush, Newt Gingrich and Michael Steele. I ask again, what were they thinking?

Now don’t get me wrong, I have no illusion that Gilchrest would ever endorse Harris and can fully understand if he doesn’t want to be involved in GOP politics in the future, that is his right to make whatever personal decision he wants about the race. But to whine that the party did not do enough for you when you repeatedly went against the interests of the party while in Congress is patently absurd. The mere fact that he is even considering an endorsement of the Democratic candidate, which indicates Gilchrest supports that candidate’s beliefs and policies, shows that the Republican Party probably made the right decision in not giving Gilchrest more help and it was probably good they let the Republican voters of the 1st District decide who they wanted as their standard bearer.

AZ: Guess What? McCain Leads Obama and Hillary

Friday, February 29th, 2008

No shock in a poll I missed the other day from KAET-TV, John McCain leads in his own home state.

PRESIDENT – ARIZONA – GENERAL
John McCain (R) 49%
Barack Obama (D) 38%

John McCain (R) 57%
Hillary (D) 33%

The only thing that should be a little concerning is McCain’s inability to reach 50% against Obama in his home state, but this should be an easy win for McCain in November. This poll was done February 21-24 among 552 registered voters.

Almost Whoops

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

A funny anecdote from Major Garrett at Fox News.

Republican presidential hopeful Sen. John McCain almost called himself a liberal on Thursday, getting ahead of himself as he contrasted himself with the Democratic candidates.

“I’m a proud, conservative, liberal Republi- Hello! Easy there,” McCain said, laughing along with his audience at Texas Instruments Inc.

He corrected himself immediately. “Let me say this: I am a proud, conservative Republican, and both of my possible or likely opponents today are liberal Democrats.”

Good thing for McCain he make that mistake earlier in the primaries, Mitt Romney could have beaten him over the head with it….

FL: McCain Leads Both Democrats

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

More good news for John McCain in the latest poll from Mason-Dixon.

PRESIDENT – FLORIDA – GENERAL
John McCain (R) 49%
Hillary (D) 40%

John McCain (R) 47%
Barack Obama (D) 37%

The faster McCain can lock up these states won by Bush in 2000 and 2004, obviously the better he will be come November. The more and more I watch this race, I have a feeling we are headed towards another 50-50 Electoral College battle where the winner will win by just one or two states in the end.

This poll was done February 21-24 among 625 registered voters.

Obama Leads In Texas, Hillary Leads In Pennsylvania

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

So says Scott Rasmussen in his latest primary polls for the states of Texas and Pennsylvania.

PRESIDENT – TEXAS – DEM PRIMARY

PRESIDENT – PENNSYLVANIA – DEM PRIMARY
Hillary 46%
Barack Obama 42%

The TX poll was done February 27th among 503 likely voters. The PA poll was done February 26th among 820 likely voters.

UPDATE (1:00pm): Another polling firm, one I have never heard of, has a new poll from Texas. The polling firm is called People Calling People.

PRESIDENT – TEXAS – DEM PRIMARY
Barack Obama 40%
Hillary 33%

No dates were given on this poll, but they did call 9418 likely voters, which is quite high.

UPDATE (5:53pm): Another poll from Texas, this time Insider Advantage.

PRESIDENT – TEXAS – DEM PRIMARY
Hillary 47%
Barack Obama 43%

This poll was done February 27 among 591 likely voters.

NC: McCain Leads Both Democrats by Double Digits

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

More good news for John McCain in another southern state. The John W. Pope Civitas Institute’s latest poll puts McCain ahead of both Democrats by double digits.

PRESIDENT – NORTH CAROLINA – GENERAL
John McCain (R) 46%
Barack Obama (D) 36%

John McCain (R) 48%
Hillary (D) 36%

In the presidential primaries, which will not be held until May 6th, show Barack Obama and John McCain well ahead.

PRESIDENT – NORTH CAROLINA – PRIMARIES
John McCain 50%
Mike Huckabee 23%
Ron Paul 6%

Barack Obama 38%
Hillary 24%

This poll was done February 19-22 among 400 Democrats and 296 Republicans.

TN: McCain Leads Obama By Double Digits

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

But things are much closer in a McCain/Hillary match up. The latest poll numbers from Middle Tennessee State University in the state of Tennessee.

PRESIDENT – TENNESSEE – GENERAL
John McCain (R) 53%
Barack Obama (D) 37%

John McCain (R) 45%
Hillary (D) 41%

This poll was done February 11-23 among 577 likely voters.
