NC: Hillary Surges Into Lead

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

It’s only one poll, but it no doubt will get the Obamites shaking. The latest poll from Insider Advantage now puts Hillary ahead of Barack Obama in the state of North Carolina.

PRESIDENT – NORTH CAROLINA – DEM PRIMARY
Hillary 44%
Barack Obama 42%

This poll was done May 6th April 29th among 571 registered voters.

All along, it has been that Obama was going to win North Carolina easily and Indiana would determine whether Hillary would go on. Could we see the unthinkable and Hillary win both states on Tuesday?

AZ: Obama Within 9% Of McCain

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

That is what a new poll says from KAET-TV and Arizona State University.

PRESIDENT – ARIZONA
John McCain (R) 47%
Barack Obama (D) 38%

John McCain (R) 53%
Hillary (D) 37%

This poll was done April 24-27 among 577 registered voters. One poll I missed yesterday from Capital Survey Research Center has McCain having no problems in Alabama, leading both Democrats by identical 55%-36% margins.

National Polls Show Tight GE Race

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

So what did I miss all day? Apparently the pollsters in the primary states decided to take today off since I don’t think we had one state poll released that I can find. i guess it was a good day to be busy.

But we did get some new national match ups. First, the poll from liberal news organizations CBS News and The New York Times.

PRESIDENT – NATIONAL – GENERAL (CBS/NYT)
Hillary (D) 48%
McCain (R) 43%
Obama (D) 45%
McCain (R) 45%

Diving into the numbers, we see that McCain beats Obama among all women 47%-44% and among white women 55%-38%. One other thing that jumped out at me was that all three candidates now have favorable ratings below 30%, with both Hillary and McCain with net negative favorable ratings and Obama barely in favorable territory. This poll was done April 25-29 among 956 registered voters.

Next up, Fox News and Opinion Dynamics.

PRESIDENT – NATIONAL – GENERAL (Fox/OD)
Hillary (D) 45%
McCain (R) 44%
McCain (R) 46%
Obama (D) 43%

in this poll, John McCain, Hillary, and Barack Obama all have favorable ratings less than Bill Clinton. This poll also shows 32% of Hillary supporters jumping to McCain in November should Obama get the nomination. Only 21% of Obama supporters would jump to McCain if Hillary got the nod. But even better, a majority of both Democratic candidate’s supporters would rather see Al Gore as the nominee than the other candidate should their candidate lose. This poll was done April 28-29 among 900 registered voters.

Finally, NBC News and The Wall Street Journal.

PRESIDENT – NATIONAL – GENERAL (NBC/WSJ)
Hillary (D) 45%
McCain (R) 44%
Obama (D) 46%
McCain (R) 43%

Should I be surprised that a poll from NBC is the one most favorable for Obama in a match up against McCain? This poll was done Aril 25-28 among 1006 registered voters.

Open Thread 04/30/08

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Does this Election feel like it has been going on forever? Well check out the sad fact that Joe Scarborough made me aware of this morning:

Days since the first votes in Iowa: 118
Days until the General Election: 188

We aren’t even halfway done….

NJ: Democrats Cruising

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Numbers from Monmouth University show Republicans shouldn’t waste any money or time trying to win the state of New Jersey.

PRESIDENT – NEW JERSEY
Barack Obama (D) 56%
John McCain (R) 32%

Hillary (D) 52%
John McCain (R) 38%

This poll was done April 24-28 among 720 registered voters. A couple of other interesting numbers form the poll show that Barack Obama would beat Hillary by 7% if they reran the New Jersey primary after Hillary beat Obama by 10% two months ago. And Jon Corzine’s approval rating stands at a meager 34%, with 52% disapproving of the job he is doing.

Hillary Getting Stronger In Primary States

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Sorry for the lack of posts, but the real job is taking most of my time today.

These polls were covered in the comments below, but I know some don’t check them, so here they are in a fresh thread. A bunch of polls from the upcoming primary states, starting with a new poll in Kentucky from Survey USA.

PRESIDENT – KENTUCKY – DEM PRIMARY
Hillary 63%
Barack Obama 27%

This poll was done April 26-28 among 555 likely voters. Obviously Hillary having little trouble there. Better news for Hillary in North Carolina, where she has closed to within 5% of Obama according to Survey USA.

PRESIDENT – NORTH CAROLINA – DEM PRIMARY
Barack Obama 49%
Hillary 44%

This poll was done April 26-28 among 727 likely voters. Even better news for Hillary in Indiana, where she has surged into a lead in teh latest poll from Public Policy Polling.

PRESIDENT – INDIANA – DEM PRIMARY
Hillary 50%
Barack Obama 42%

This poll was done April 26-27 among 1388 likely voters.

We’ve heard about if Obama wins both NC and IN next week that the race is over. And if Hillary manages to win Indiana, she would keep going. But what would happened if Hillary did the unimaginable and won both NC and IN? Obviously she would keep going, but then the question arises to Obama’s growing weakness, thanks to none other than Reverend Wright….

NC: Obama Ahead By 14%

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

That is what Scott Rasmussen says in his latest poll from North Carolina.

PRESIDENT – NORTH CAROLINA – DEM PRIMARY
Barack Obama 51%
Hillary 37%

This poll was done April 28th among 774 likely voters.

Three Hours I Won’t Get Back

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

We can debate the merits of GGP’s plan for Downtown Columbia later, but I just have to comment on the quality of the presentation last night put together by GGP. In a word – PATHETIC.

It was like GGP waited until Monday morning to put the thing together and just “hoped it would fit together” in the end. It was a combination of skipping over slides randomly making it impossible to follow along, the slides you could see were borderline unreadable to just about everyone – especially the plan drawings of Columbia, and the person talking half the time wasn’t even in sync with the slide that was behind him/her. Did they even look at this presentation before they threw it up on the screen? Nobody seemed to know when they were supposed to talk or what they were supposed to say. This was the culmination of two and a half years of work and was supposed to be the great unveiling of the new plan for Columbia that has been long anticipated by everyone. You would have thought GGP would have made an effort to make it feel like that this was important. Yet I think my third-grade presentation on the New Deal using an overhead projector was more organized than the presentation GGP put together last night.

I know I was not the only one disappointed in the quality of the presentation. At least seven other people I ran into last night had the exact same opinion as me on how bad this presentation was.

Hopefully the future “more detailed” presentations on the Downtown Master Plan are much more organized than that crap they peddled last night…GGP should be embarrassed.

WI: Obama Beats McCain, McCain Beats Hillary

Monday, April 28th, 2008

A new poll from the University of Wisconsin puts Barack Obama ahead of John McCain by 7%.

PRESIDENT – WISCONSIN – GENERAL
Barack Obama (D) 47%
John McCain (R) 43%

John McCain (R) 47%
Hillary (D) 41%

This poll was done April 15-24 among 521 registered voters (I think). This poll doesn’t change the McCain/Obama match up, but does flip Wisconsin and move John McCain closer to Hillary (284-254) in the Electoral College Watch.

Hillary Leads In IN, Obama Leads In NC

Monday, April 28th, 2008

Survey USA and Public Policy Polling are both out with polls this afternoon that show Hillary leading in Indiana and Obama leading in North Carolina. First, the numbers from Survey USA.

PRESIDENT – INIDIANA – DEM PRIMARY (Survey USA)
Hillary 52%
Barack Obama 43%

Survey USA has now shown the race in Indiana go from a 16% lead for Hillary to a 5% lead for Obama back to a 9% lead for Hillary in the span of 10 days. That is borderline ridiculous. This poll was done April 25-27 among 628 likely voters. Meanwhile, Public Policy Polling has a new one out of North Carolina that shows Hillary closing the 25%-gap from the previous poll down to a mere 12%.

PRESIDENT – NORTH CAROLINA – DEM PRIMARY (PPP)
Barack Obama 51%
Hillary 39%

This poll was done April 26-27 among 1121 likely Democratic voters.
