Tuesday Afternoon Polls – OH, VA, AZ, IN, DE

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

As fast as I give them to McCain, I take them away. New polls from Insider Advantage/Poll Position, puts Barack Obama ahead in both Virginia and Ohio.

PRESIDENT – VIRGINIA (Insider Advantage)
Barack Obama (D) 51%
John McCain (R) 45%

PRESIDENT – OHIO (Insider Advantage)
Barack Obama (D) 47%
John McCain (D) 45%

These polls were done September 29th among 436 likely voters in Virginia and 512 likely voters in Ohio. In Indiana, Survey USA has McCain’s lead pegged at 3% while Mitch Daniels is running away in the race for Governor.

PRESIDENT – INDIANA (Survey USA)
John McCain (R) 48%
Barack Obama (D) 45%

GOVERNOR – INDIANA (Survey USA)
Mitch Daniels (R-inc) 53%
Jill Long Thompson (D) 37%

This poll was done September 28-289 among 6897 likely voters. In Georgia, Survey USA claims McCain holds an 85 lead and shows Republcian Senator Saxby Chambliss in serious trouble.

PRESIDENT – GEORGIA (Survey USA)
John McCain (R) 52%
Barack Obama (D) 44%

US SENATE – GEORGIA (Survey USA)
Saxby Chambliss (R) 46%
Jim Martin (D) 44%

I am surprised by that US Senate race number, I never thought this race would be close. This poll was done September 28-29 among 677 likely voters. One thing this poll included was people who already voted (about 9% of Georgia), and it shows Obama ahead of McCain 64%-35% and Martin ahead of Chambliss 61%-36%. On a more humorous note, 1% of the people who already voted for President are “undecided”. Huh? In John McCain’s home state of Arizona, Scott Rasmussen says he has a 215 lead.

PRESIDENT – ARIZONA (Rasmussen)
John McCain (R) 59%
Barack Obama (D) 38%

This poll was done September 29th among 500 likely voters. And finally, in what i believe is the first poll for the Delaware Gubernatorial race, Fairleigh Dickinson University says this seat will stay in Democratic hands.

GOVERNOR – DELAWARE (FDU)
Jack Markell (D) 61%
Bill Lee (R) 27%

US SENATE – DELAWARE (FDU)
Joe Biden (D-inc) 69%
Christine O’Donnell (R) 26%

US HOUSE – DELAWARE – CD-AL (FDU)
Mike Castle (R-inc) 62%
Karen Hartley-Nagel (D) 28%

This poll was done September 17-21 among 601 likely voters.

Okay, that should be enough for now….

ARG Puts McCain Ahead In VA, NC and NV

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Three states have flipped back into John McCain’s column in the Hedgehog Report Electoral College Watch as new polls from American Research Group in North Carolina, Nevada and Virginia all put John McCain ahead of Barack Obama.

PRESIDENT – NEVADA (ARG)
John McCain (R) 49%
Barack Obama (D) 47%

PRESIDENT – NORTH CAROLINA (ARG)
John McCain (R) 49%
Barack Obama (D) 46%

PRESIDENT – VIRGINIA (ARG)
John McCain (R) 49%
Barack Obama (D) 46%

All three polls were done September 27-29 among 600 likely voters in each state. Also out today is a new poll for the state of Ohio from Survey USA that shows McCain ahead by a single percentage point.

PRESIDENT – OHIO (Survey USA)
John McCain (R) 49%
Barack Obama (D) 48%

This poll was done September 28-29 among 693 likely voters. Finally, one state going against John McCain is Florida, where Public Policy Polling claims Obama is ahead by 3%.

PRESIDENT – FLORIDA (PPP)
Barack Obama (D) 49%
John McCain (R) 46%

This poll was done September 27-28 among 941 likely voters. No other polling organization has released a poll from Florida claiming Obama has this big a lead since June.

Tuesday Morning Polls – NJ

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Couldn’t find much this morning. Survey USA has a new poll from New Jersey out this morning that puts Barack Obama’s lead at 10% while Democratic Senator Frank Lautenberg leads by a bigger margin.

PRESIDENT – NEW JERSEY (Survey USA)
Barack Obama (D) 52%
John McCain (R) 42%

US SENATE – NEW JERSEY (Survey USA)
Frank Lautenberg (D-inc)
Dick Zimmer (R)

This poll was done September 27-28 among 611 likely voters. Public Policy Polling indicates they will have a new poll from Florida later today, but other than that, I don’t have any information on what to expect later today.

Rasmussen Swing State Polls – FL, OH, CO, VA, PA

Monday, September 29th, 2008

Scott Rasmussen has released his “swing state” polls and Barack Obama now leads in three out of the five with a tie in Florida and McCain ahead by 15 in Ohio.

PRESIDENT – FLORIDA (Rasmussen)
John McCain (R) 47%
Barack Obama (D) 47%

PRESIDENT – OHIO (Rasmussen)
John McCain (R) 48%
Barack Obama (D) 47%

PRESIDENT – PENNSYLVANIA (Rasmussen)
Barack Obama (D) 50%
John McCain (R) 42%

PRESIDENT – COLORADO (Rasmussen)
Barack Obama (D) 49%
John McCain (R) 48%

PRESIDENT – VIRGINIA (Rasmussen)
Barack Obama (D) 50%
John McCain (R) 47%

All these polls were done September 28th among 700 likely voters.

Monday Afternoon Polls – NC, IA, FL, TN

Monday, September 29th, 2008

While the Dow sinks 777 points in a single day, there were some polls out today. Public Policy Polling came out with a new poll for North Carolina that puts Barack Obama ahead by 2% while Democrat Kay Hagan is stretching her lead over Republican Senator Elizabeth Dole.

PRESIDENT – NORTH CAROLINA (PPP)
Barack Obama (D) 47%
John McCain (R) 45%

US SENATE – NORTH CAROLINA (PPP)
Kay Hagan (D) 46%
Elizabeth Dole (R-inc) 38%

This poll was done September 28-29 among 1041 likely voters. New numbers for the gubernatorial race will be coming out tomorrow. The only poll from Rasmussen out so far is a new pollf or the US Senate race in Iowa.

US SENATE – IOWA (Rasmussen)
Tom Harkin (D-inc) 54%
Chris Reed (R) 40%

This poll was done September 25th among 700 likely voters. Of course we will get the new swing state polls from Rasmussen/Fox News in a little while. But before then, we did get a new poll for the state of Florida from Survey USA that has McCain in the lead.

PRESIDENT – FLORIDA (Survey USA)
John McCain (R) 48%
Barack Obama (D) 47%

This poll was done September 27-28 among 599 likely voters. Finally, a new poll from Middle Tennessee State University puts McCain up by 12% in the state of Tennessee.

PRESIDENT – TENNESSEE (MTSU)
John McCain (R) 48%
Barack Obama (D) 36%

This poll was done September 15-27 among 635 “people”.

Of course, none of these polls are really going to matter until we see how a 777-point drop in the Dow affects people’s opinions….

Open Thread Monday

Monday, September 29th, 2008

If it wasn’t for the idiot teenage girl plowing into the back of my RAV4 on Connecticut Avenue on Saturday (nobody was hurt thank goodness) or my laptop falling off a table and, of all things, having a cup of water that was on the table fall on top of it (causing the screen to now not work properly), my weekend would have been great. Thankfully I was able to back up all my data from the laptop and get it moved over to my eight-year old Gateway computer so I did not lose any important stuff and my car is still drivable. God is testing me somehow right now and trying to tell me something about something – what it is I have not yet figured out….

Anyway, due the problems with my laptop, things might get a little slow around here until I can hopefully get my laptop fixed (and not have to buy a new one, which would suck).

Anyway, since I have been sort of out of the loop, I am not even sure what to expect today for polls. I am sure we will get the usual batch from Scott Rasmussen, including the weekly polls with Fox News later today. And Public Policy Polling already indicated they will have polls this week for various states. That, and a slew of other polls as well are probably going to appear from everywhere. I wish I had more you right now, but I am just going to open the floor for now….

McCain Leads In Colorado, Obama Leads In Florida

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

Cripes, I didn’t even see these polls from Florida and Colorado from American Research Group that came out Friday. The news is great for McCain in Colorado, but not so good in Florida.

PRESIDENT – FLORIDA (ARG)
Barack Obama (D) 47%
John McCain (R) 46%

PRESIDENT – COLORADO (ARG)
John McCain (R) 48%
Barack Obama (D) 45%

Both poll were done September 23-25 among 600 likely voters. In Kentucky, a new poll from Mason-Dixon in Kentucky has John McCain with a double digit lead.

PRESIDENT – KENTUCKY (Mason Dixon)
John McCain (R) 53%
Barack Obama (D) 41%

This poll was done September 22-25 among 717 likely voters. Survey USA has a new poll from Connecticut that gives Obama a double-digit Constitution State.

PRESIDENT – CONNECTICUT (Survey USA)
Barack Obama (D) 54%
John McCain (R) 38%

This poll was done September 24-25 among 686 likely voters.

2008 Week 4 NFL Picks

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

I had a pretty good week last week picking the NFL games. Looking back:

WEEK 3 – WINNERS
Atlanta beat Kansas City
Buffalo beat Oakland
Minnesota beat Carolina
Tennessee beat Houston
N.Y. Giants beast Cincinnati
Seattle beat St. Louis
San Francisco beat Detroit
Denver beat New Orelans
Baltimore beat Cleveland (YAY!)
Philadelphia beat Pittsburgh
San Diego beat N.Y. Jets

WEEK 3 – LOSERS
Arizona lost to Washington (BOO!)
Chicago lost to Tampa Bay
New England lost to Miami
Indianapolis lost to Jacksonville
Green Bay lost to Dallas

Not a bad week if I say so myself, but I did lose ground against the so-called ESPN Experts.

ESPN SO-CALLED EXPERTS
Mark Schlereth 32-15
Eric Allen 32-15
Chris Mortensen 32-15
David Fleming 32-16
Ron Jaworski 29-15
Mike Golic 29-17
ME 29-18
Merrill Hoge 29-18
Ken Wickersham 28-19

This week starts the official bye weeks (although the Ravens were screwed out of their bye week by the NFL in Week 2). So without further ado, the Hedgehog Report picks for Week 4 of the NFL Season.

Atlanta at Carolina 1:00 pm FOX Regional
Arizona at N.Y. Jets 1:00 pm FOX Regional

You read that right, the Ravens will beat the Pittsburgh Steelers to stay undefeated. Joe Flacco is the second coming of Johnny U….

Saturday Polls – IA, LA

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

I did not watch the debate, so I can’t tell you my opinion of it, and I have dutifully avoided watching barely any news of the event, so I don’t even know what the reactions have been. In the meantime, we do have new polls from Scott Rasmussen for the states of Iowa and Louisiana.

PRESIDENT – IOWA (Rasmussen)
Barack Obama (D) 51%
John McCain (R) 43%

PRESIDENT – LOUISIANA (Rasmussen)
John McCain (R) 55%
Barack Obama (D) 40%

Both these polls were done September 25th, among 500 likely voters in Louisiana and 700 likely voters in Iowa. In addition to these polls, Rasmussen is indicating that the US Senate race in Louisiana is looking more and more like a blowout than a chance for the GOP to pick up a seat.

US SENATE – LOUISIANA (Rasmussen)
Mary Landrieu (D-inc) 54%
John Kennedy (R) 41%

This guy Kennedy surely has turned out to be an absolutely bust. This poll was done September 25th among 500 likely voters.

Debate #1 Open Thread

Friday, September 26th, 2008

Before we get to tonight’s debate, how about a look back at a classic moment from 1988.

I am putting this thread up in advance since I do not know whether or not I am actually going to be able to watch the debate tonight….

One prediction I am willing to make in advance regardless of what happens tonight is that whatever “snap polls” the media comes up will invariably show Barack Obama won the debate. I think every “snap poll” in 2004 claimed Kerry won all three debates…we all saw how well that worked for him….

Talk about the debate before, during, and after….
