MI: Cox Leads Cherry By Double Digits

Monday, November 30th, 2009

A new poll from Mitchell Research and Communications shows Republican Mike Cox could return the Michigan gubernatorial seat to GOP hands next year if he manages to win the nomination.

GOVERNOR – MICHIGAN (Mitchell Research)
Mike Cox (R) 47%
John Cherry (D) 31%

GOVERNOR – MICHIGAN – GOP PRIMARY (Mitchell Research)
Mike Cox 27%
Pete Hoekstra 24%
Mike Bouchard 12%
Rick Snyder 3%
Tom George 3%

This poll was done November 17-19 and 22-24 among 600 likely voters. I don’t know if there is more to this poll than just these numbers or not as the six articles that describe this poll never really indicate whether there were other head-to-head match ups included.

Post Thanksgiving Open Thread

Monday, November 30th, 2009

On our long six-hour trek from New York back to Maryland yesterday, I did get a chuckle out of this broken sign located on the New Jersey Turnpike.

If only we could “Speed”, might have avoided the one and a half hours we lost on the Turnpike sitting in the traffic. By the way, the traffic reporters on 101.5 in New Jersey are downright awful. We listened to them repeatedly tell us there was a back up to Exit 8, but it was clear sailing after that once you got past Exit 8. We hit Exit 8 and the traffic continued to be bumper-to-bumper. We got to Exit 7A, still bumper-to-bumper, which was made more aggravating by the nimrod on 101.5 claiming the traffic was supposedly flowing freely. Exit 7 came, still bumper-to-bumper traffic despite NJ 101.5’s claims to the contrary. Meanwhile, 101.5 was also claiming a “12-mile back up” on the northbound side leading to Exit 8. Came as news to us as there were barely any cars on the other side of the road between Exit 7 and 8 that we could see. At this point, we realized how truly useless traffic reports from NJ 101.5 really are….

But at least the Ravens beat the Steelers….

Hope everyone had their fill of turkey yesterday and for those out shopping this morning, hope you made it back home alive….

Myself, I am off to New York for a few days and will not have a lot to offer other than a sporadic post here and there when I get some time.

I will have football picks on Sunday (already 3-0 this week)….

Enjoy the weekend….

Happy Thanskgiving

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

No posts other than this one today. I continue to be thankful for everything that I have in my life, but most importantly, the people who have come and gone from my life and made me the person I am today and especially to those who are in my life now. And a special thank you to those fighting for our freedom overseas and at military bases all over the US who, for whatever reason, can’t be with their families today.

Oh, there are a few football games today.

THANKSGIVING DAY NFL PICKS
Green Bay at Detroit 12:30 pm FOX
Oakland at Dallas 4:15 pm CBS

PREZ: Romney Tied With Obama

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

Some great numbers to head into the Thanksgiving holiday from Scott Rasmussen. Rasmussen has released some numbers for the 2012 Presidential Election with the usual Republican suspects.

PRESIDENT – NATIONAL (Rasmussen)
Mitt Romney (R) 44%
Barack Obama (D-inc) 44%

Barack Obama (D-inc) 46%
Sarah Palin (R) 43%

Barack Obama (D-inc) 45%
Mike Huckabee (R) 41%

And in what has become a somewhat disturbing phenomenon among pollsters of late, they are now including Lou Dobbs in match ups as a third party candidate. In this case, Dobbs clearly would hurt the Republicans.

PRESIDENT – NATIONAL (Rasmussen)
Barack Obama (D-inc) 42%
Mitt Romney (R) 34%
Lou Dobbs (I) 14%

Barack Obama (D-inc) 44%
Sarah Palin (R) 37%
Lou Dobbs (I) 12%

Barack Obama (D-inc) 42%
Mike Huckabee (R) 36%
Lou Dobbs (I) 12%

Hopefully this media infatuation with Lou Dobbs running for President erodes quickly. And the latest rumors is he will run for the US Senate from New Jersey. This poll was done November 24th among 800 likely voters.

NY: Giuliani Leads Gillibrand By 13%

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

We now have a second poll out that shows former Mayor Rudy Giuliani ahead of sitting Democratic US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand by double digits. This time, it is Scott Rasmussen.

US SENATE – NEW YORK (Rasmussen)
Rudy Giuliani (R) 53%
Kirsten Gillibrand (D-inc) 40%

One thing I have to keep telling myself about Giuliani is that he has not won any election in 12 years, since he won a second term for mayor. Since that point, he pulled out of a US Senate in 2000 and had what can only be considered a pathetic campaign for President in 2008. But don’t get me wrong, I would love to see him run for the US Senate next year. This poll was done November 23 among 500 likely voters.

MA: Patrick Leads Three-Way Race For Gov

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

Regardless of who the Republican candidate will be, sitting Democratic Governor Deval Patrick leads a three-way race despite the fact he can’t get above a third of the vote in a new poll from Scott Rasmussen.

GOVERNOR – MASSACHUSETTS (Rasmussen)
Deval Patrick (D-inc) 32%
Tim Cahill (I) 28%
Christy Mihos (R) 26%

Deval Patrick (D-inc) 33%
Charlie Baker (R) 28%
Tim Cahill (I) 25%

I know Cahill came from the Democratic Party, but does anyone from Massachusetts know if he would be tolerable as Governor if you were a Republican? This poll was done November 23rd among 500 likely voters.

MA: Coakley Leads Dem Primary

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

Scott Rasmussen released a poll last night for the Special Election to replace Ted Kennedy. Interesting results as all four leading Democrats in the primary reach double digits.

US SENATE – MASSACHUSETTS – DEM PRIMARY (Rasmussen)
Martha Coakley 36%
Michael Capuano 21%
Alan Khazei 14%
Steve Pagliuca 14%

This poll was done November 23rd among 567 likely voters. The primary is less than two weeks away (December 8th) with the General Election on January 19th.
