MD: “Backwards”

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Well since Bob Ehrlich announced he will jump into the gubernatorial race in Maryland, it is clear the message Maryland Democrats are going to use, at least in the short term. I got an email from the Maryland Democratic party with the subject “Backwards” which had this paragraph within the email.

Ehrlich wants to take Maryland back to the days when he increased college tuition by 40 percent, increased spending by more than 30 percent and put special interests ahead of working families.

We can’t move back. Please click here to contribute $100, $50 or $25 now so we can start defending our progress today!

Then about two hours later, I get an email from Martin O’Malley himself.

He says he wants to “Take Back Maryland,” but what he really wants is to take us back – back to the days when special interests always got their way. Back to the days of record spending with zero accountability. Back to the days when middle class families took a backseat to giant corporations.

Clearly the Democrats are jumping directly to the negative campaigning before the campaign even begins. I am sure I will be getting a similar email from the Howard County Democrats before not too long with the exact same message….

I guess sometime last night Bob Ehrlich finally decided to enter the race officially for Governor in Maryland. Yay.

I don’t have a lot of time at a computer this morning, but I do have time to put the latest poll from Quinnipiac University for Ohio up that continues the trend of Quinnipiac being the only polling organization in the entire country this year to show Democrats leading the races for Governor and US Senate.

No other public poling organization has shown Democrats leading either race and in some cases, are showing Kasich with a double-digit lead. This poll was done March 23-29 among 1526 registered voters. For more polls from Ohio, click here.

We get the rest of that Mason-Dixon poll from Florida that shows Republican Bill McCollum opening up a huge double-digit lead over Democrat Alex Sink in the bid to replace Charlie Crist.

There was also this from the article.

Attorney General Bill McCollum’s decision to sue the federal government over healthcare reform looks like a political winner, according to a new poll showing that he has widened his lead over state Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink in the race for governor.

The Mason-Dixon Polling & Research survey released Monday shows that 51 percent of registered Florida voters approve of McCollum’s lawsuit, while 39 percent are opposed.

This poll was done March 23-25 among 625 registered voters.

Why I Don’t Give Money To The RNC

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

Well the story is already a day old, but when the third paragraph in a story on the front page of The Washington Post goes like this:

…the RNC’s latest filings captured widespread attention for one expenditure at a risque nightclub: $1,946.25 for “meals” at Voyeur in West Hollywood, which features topless dancers wearing horse bridles and other bondage gear while mimicking sex acts.

…it is probably not going to be a good story for your side.

I’ve been involved in many campaigns and party functions and can honestly say that nearly all of them have spent their money in a proper manner where I never felt like I was throwing my money away. There have been a couple times where I regretted giving money to a candidate when I found they were spending on things that they shouldn’t have been, but those people did not last very long in politics and people catch on pretty quick when someone is spending money in an inappropriate way. But it is also a reason I try to limit all my contributions, as limited as they are, to strictly local candidates that I know personally where I can at least see how money is being spent and determine rather easily whether they deserve more of my money or not. It is also why I rarely give money to national party organizations and/or other groups where I know this type of stuff goes on more than what was even reported here….
