Christie Wins in New Jersey

Who would have guessed this election would have been called a little more than two hours after the polls closed, and in favor of Chris Christie?

And if things aren’t any weirder tonight, Michael Bloomberg is fighting for his political life barely ahead of Democrat William Thompson.

Fun, fun, fun….

    Congratulations, Mr. Christie!

Obama, please come to PA often to campaign for Specter. Since Corzine won’t be busy, bring him, too.

  3. Big Joe says:

the NYC election is very very interesting indeed!

  4. addisonst says:

Not only was I number one…finally, but congrats to America for saying “No you can’t!!!!! One year from last night we change Madame Speaker’s business card.

    Governor Elect Christie

    Message to Jon Corzine:

Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye!

  7. MD says:

If they go ahead and pass Obamacare then I will predict the following:

    1. 70 house seats
    2. 12 senate seats

    Go ahead, pass it.

Nice spin Trippi. You lost in a deep blue state.

  8. jack ross says:

obama just cannot close the deal.

  9. Howard Dean 1/20/13 says:

    RS:

Keep in mind on Doug Hoffman that 3 counties will not report their results online and one county, Fulton, has had a machine breakdown and will not report its results until tomorrow.

  10. Cam Rep says:

NYTimes has called Bloomberg as winner

  11. Jack the extremist prof says:

Hoffman isn’t polling well. Slightly Nervous

  12. D.QUIXOTE says:

There are still 180,000 mail in ballots still out in N.J.

  13. MD says:

Don’t be nervous on Hoffman. He will pull it out. HD – I didn’t know about the precincts. Thanks

  14. MD says:

    Now a 5% Owens lead.

  15. jason says:

    Hoffman picked up a little.

  16. Chekote says:

    #13

They were counted first according to Brandon.

  17. MD says:

    #13,

I think they were counted already but I could be wrong. I doubt the reace would be called (especially for an R) if those were still outstanding.

  18. jason says:

    Re 180k ballots in NJ

Even it was 60/40 Corzine which I doubt that would only net Corzine 35k votes. He is down by 100k.

  19. DrJay says:

Here are the voting breakdowns by County in NY-23 (page 7) from 2008 for McHugh:

It’s outside the MOF …..have a cheeseburger and a glass of bubbly.

  21. VictrC says:

So Olberman on PSMNBC just said that the new GOP health care plan isnt as progressive as the salem witch trials, inquisition, etc etc

    What an idiot!!!!

  22. MD says:

An 18% victory with huge coattails in VA. Wow.

NJ, a deep blue state, elects an R Gov.

What is going on with Hoffman? I wasn’t worried before but I expected it to be within 1 or 2% by now.

  23. GEAUXlsu says:

New Jersey….I owe you an apology! Truly stunned. Worried about NY-23.

  24. jason says:

Hoffman has gone from being down 50-44 to 49-45….trending his way slowly.

  25. MD says:

    We need a Hoffman win. I really a 3 for 3.

  26. Brandon says:

    49/46 now.

  27. jason says:

Olbermann is having a bad night, it’s a darn shame….

  28. Chekote says:

Overbite can say whatever he wants. Obamacare is VERY unpopular. Especially among seniors and they vote.

  29. Phil says:

a little to slowly – my heart can’t take much more tonight.

  30. MD says:

The senior vote was key. Listening blue dogs? Listening mod dems in the senate? Listening Obama?

  31. wylie e. coyote - super genius says:

#22 It isnt as “regressive” as the lefts plan to make you a permeant slave to the state and reinstall a new eltist aristorcracy!

  32. Howard Dean 1/20/13 says:

    Hoff closing…

  33. jack ross says:

that 5% dede got sure whould help hoffman. thats why early voting sucks

  34. MD says:

54% of the precincts in. Now I am getting a little nervous. Just a little though.

I could only take 3 minutes of MSNBC. God, they are awful.

  35. AC1 says:

VA House 60-39- 1 uncalled now.

  36. MD says:

    We won in Jersey!!!!!

I really wondered if I would live to see this day again.

  37. Chekote says:

Hoffman is behind by 2300 votes. It is doable.

  38. MFG says:

    All hail Polaris

    Prognosticator supreme!!

  39. Jeff G. says:

    #35,

If Fox is not a serious new organization, at least according to the White House, then what exactly is MSNBC?

  40. Chekote says:

    #34

Yup! Enough with the early votes. Mail in vote. If you can’t show up on election that’s too bad.

  41. MD says:

    Uh oh,

We have a problem in NY 23. I am NOT happy with these results. Something smells.

  42. wylie e. coyote - super genius says:

#29 Obamacare is like a freaking vampire – a stake needs to be drove thru its heart or else it will keep coming back at you….

You folks have to understand that Obamacare IS the Democrats/statists insurance policy to make sure nights like this never happen again….

Finally this week the GOP leadership is talking about HC in these terms – see the statements by Hatch, Pense, Bachman, etc they “get it” on HC…..

Tonight is a huge boost for sure in stopping HC takeover scam but we arent there yet I dont think…..

And good thing I didnt buy Obamacare last nite at 9 cents – it will probably be like 5 cents tommorrow….coyote will make a killing lol

  43. Cam Rep says:

St. Lawrence County is the big one to wait for in 23.

  44. Big D (The only Republican/Libertarian kos plant) says:

Is that a D,R or swing county?

  45. jason says:

Anyone have a news site that shows all the results around the country?

  46. Jason T. says:

1.Addison my man, lets us now kick these lefties out of Cook County.

  47. jack ross says:

hard to see how hoff pulls this out.

  48. addisonst says:

what’s the word on New J’s other races? Any coattails?

  49. Alan says:

    #42
It’s Hoffman who stinks. So much for speaking for the people!

  50. GEAUXlsu says:

I thought we would get 2 out of 3…but never thought one of 2 would be NJ. Disappointed in what’s happening in NY-23. Hope that turns around.

  51. Howard Dean 1/20/13 says:

Looks like Owens will hold on.

    He will lose in 10.

  52. Chekote says:

Yikes! Hoffman is falling back further. Not looking good.

  53. addisonst says:

Jason, the message from New J tonight is that if you are a corrupt, high taxing low return state, that has pushed your citizens far enough, change will come. I believe that the Gops as pathetic as they are in Illinois are going to make big gains next year. Help is on the way!!!!!

Care to discuss the Obama disaster in VA and DEEP BLUE NJ?

    Thought so!

    Where is the HCR bill?

    C&T?

    LOL

  55. MD says:

I would rather have NJ and VA. NY 23 is just a strange animal and I said all along that I would rather have the Dem win than Dede.

Owens, if this holds, goes down in 10.

  56. Chekote says:

McHugh was very pro-union. If Hoffman loses it will be because of the unions.

  57. Alan says:

    62% in. Owens leads 49.3-45.5.
Thanks wingnuts. You are giving Pelosi another vote!

  58. wylie e. coyote - super genius says:

Hoffman is behind by about 3700….mmmm

  59. MD says:

McD is running 50/50 with Deeds in Fairfax County? I thought that would be impossible.

  60. Big D (The only Republican/Libertarian kos plant) says:

Dede endorsed the D, did we really give Pelosi another vote or did the R leaders? Don’t blame the voters, the most liberal candidate finished 3rd.

  61. Brandon says:

Corzine calls Christie. Concession coming soon!

  62. Jason T. says:

Alan you hack you predicted a Corzine win. Loser

  63. jack ross says:

one extra vote for pelosi wont matter. a win would have been symbolic; a message to dems to back off. regardless, NJ will sting for a bit.

  64. MD says:

    Alan,

Isn’t this a great night? A deep blue state throws out a Dem Gov? Aren’t you thrilled?

  65. Howard Dean 1/20/13 says:

Just talked to ppl close to Hoffman. They think he’s won. Owens votes in. Their sampling tracks with what we’re seeing.

    Ewerickson Twitter

    FWIW

  66. Brandon says:

Scratch that. He hasn’t prepared a concession speech.

  67. BernieSadori says:

She had one with the Rino that dropped out.

  68. Howard Dean 1/20/13 says:

You are giving Pelosi another vote!

    Comment by Alan — November 3, 2009 @ 10:44 pm

And she still can’t pass anything.

    Loser!

  69. phoenixrisen says:

Erick over at Redstate is apparently saying via Twitter that the Hoffman campaign believes they have won.

  70. Phil says:

Hoffman is done. I am absolutely floored by this one. Man, DeDe’s revenge.

    Damn I hate this.

  71. Phil says:

True, they’ll need a lot more votes than this Owen character.

  72. MD says:

    Alan,

Will you come out of your hole if Erickson’s twitter proves accurate?

    Schultz sounds retarded.

  73. wylie e. coyote - super genius says:

#64 Really its worse if a R who would side with Pelosi on contentious votes like HC and Cap/Tax won as when they “jump ship” so to speak on votes give the D a false claim of “bipartisanship”

#66 Hope you have good sources Howard. How about an Iowa scream for us? ARRRRRAHHHHHH!!!!

  74. GEAUXlsu says:

Rove said on Fox that he expected Hoffman to win…..what are they looking at?

  75. Jack the extremist prof says:

    Can hoffman pull it off?

  76. jack ross says:

some big numbers need to come in to pull hoff out. lets see how CA-10 goes. maybe we’re in for one more surprise.

  77. MD says:

Erickson at Redstate tells us the Hoffman people are still confident Phil.

  78. Howard Dean 1/20/13 says:

    I don’t see how.

  79. Jack the extremist prof says:

    DeDe is a TREACHEROUS TRAITOR!!!

  80. addisonst says:

Alan you amuse us so. Even if upstate NY is lost, how many blue dogs did Pelosi lose tonight? And then there is your boy Chris Dodd and his shoes. And as much as I might admire his shoes, I would not want to be in them at this particular time.

  81. Cam Rep says:

Fulton was a McCain county, and there are no votes from there at all.

  82. wylie e. coyote - super genius says:

#77 if he is going to pull it off they need to get moving lol

its been stuck at around 3700 down for a while!

  83. Tommy_Boy says:

By the way, feel free to toss shit at me for my erroneous predictions everywhere.

    This NY-23 shit is unbelievable.

  84. MD says:

How many votes can we expect from Fulton?

  85. Big Joe says:

come on Deeds .. need you to creep up to 42% because that was my prediction

  86. Brutus says:

Can’t load the article on Fox “White House sees ramifications in NY congressional race”

If this is something they are trying to spin on a bad night, I can only guess the double speak inside the article.

Spin this Gibbs (actually the actor who recites an ode to capitalism in the movie Cocktail).

  87. Tommy_Boy says:

    http://rsmccain.blogspot.com/2009/11/ny23-election-results-hq.html

10:51 p.m.: Clinton County is more than 75% counted, and the numbers there project well for Hoffman. A campaign source just said, “We’re doing good in Oneida and St. Lawrence [counties], but we don’t know if that’s being reflect in the numbers” being reported on TV.

The top command of the Hoffman campaign is in a private banquet room dubbed “the war room,” where they are crunching the numbers precinct by precinct. It’s already been a longer night than most expected and guests at the party upstairs are getting restless.

Problems are reported with a total of 11 voting machines (4 in St. Lawrence County and 7 in Fulton County). With 63% of precincts reporting, Owens leads 49% to Hoffman’s 44%, a margin of about 3,400 votes, with 5% for Dede Scozzafava. Many military absentee ballots (Fort Drum is in the district) are yet to be counted.

  88. wylie e. coyote - super genius says:

D spin chick on Fox says that the HC takeover will “be a tremendous plus” for D in 10. Yep, thats there party line on the left – because HillaryCare takeover didnt pass it “doomed” them in 94

  89. MD says:

If he does not pull even within 25 minutes, then he is done.

  90. Cam Rep says:

St. Lawrence, Oswego, and Fulton are the big ones still largely out. St. Lawrence is the one that has me worried.

  91. JMH says:

It think if you look at this link – http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/files/elections/2009/by_county/NY_US_House_1103.html?SITE=NYSAR&SECTION=POLITICS

You will see the Counties with Owens biggest leads are almost fully reported. Whereas, the opposite is true for Hoffman. I think that is what people are looking at for Hoffman to win this.

  92. Brandon says:

    Corzine concession speech!!

  93. Cam Rep says:

    #88–

Good point about Fort Drum. Question is whether those military ballots would’ve been cast after Hoffman’s surge.

  94. Cam Rep says:

    Sweet! Goodbye, Jon!!!

  95. MD says:

I love you to John, now that you are unemployed.

  96. Cam Rep says:

Will he call Christie fat in his speech?

  97. SoThisIsHopeAndChange? says:

i see rep. hoffman in the future

  98. Chekote says:

    Schultz sounds retarded.

    He is retarded.

  99. wylie e. coyote - super genius says:

I am a Hoffman supporter and donor – really hopes he wins. But as a conservative, its pretty much been a cluster frag up there in NY 23. I hope republican all learned from this. Yeah, we need a center-right coaltion but this has to be resolved in an open process and we need to go into a general election united…..

This never should have gotten to this point IMHO

  100. MD says:

I was actually rooting for Bloomberg to lose. I just don’t like the guy.

  101. MD says:

Is that Corzine’s union girlfriend on the stage?

  102. wylie e. coyote - super genius says:

#97 He did thank Unions and pimped HC lol

Why didnt he thank his fellow billionares too lol

  103. Cam Rep says:

    #101–

Me, too. I don’t like the idea of term limits, but to do what he did was disgusting.

  104. MD says:

Someone tell me why we are going to prevail in NY 23.

  105. Big Joe says:

I’m with you MD, I’m a NYC guy and really don’t have anything against Bloomie. But I just wasn’t comfortable with how he got around the term limits rule.

I don’t know the specifics – but he should have stepped aside.

  106. BHJets says:

Live in Staten Island….could not vote for Bloomberg. Went Conservative straight down the line.

  107. wylie e. coyote - super genius says:

    Praising Daggett, yuck lol

  108. wylie e. coyote - super genius says:

Corzine laughs at his 94 year old mother who is a R – what class eh?

  109. MD says:

    One thing to consider:

% of precincts is NOT the same thing as % of votes. There are some large counties outstanding still but it is getting hairy.

  110. Chekote says:

Get off the stage Corzine. Buh-bye!

  111. Cam Rep says:

Well, Fulton’s almost completely in. Hoffman leading, but not nearly enough votes.

The gap is too big, if the results from St. Lawrence and Oneida hold. Pickup for Pelosi.

  112. DrJay says:

I’ve been hinting at this for a while, so let me check: what is NOVA, because the way I’m crunching it out, McDonnell has won NOVA?

Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, Stafford, Prince William

Alexandria, Falls Church, Fairfax, Manassas, Manassas Park.

  113. Brandon says:

Hoffman isn’t going to win. Terribly disappointing. Polling blew this one big time.

  114. AC1 says:

    http://www.freerepublic.com/^http://washingtonindependent.com/66474/ny-23-watertown-mayor-its-over

  115. SoThisIsHopeAndChange? says:

clinton (owens +16) is done and counted.
franklin (owens +8) is done and counted.
jefferson (owens +3) is done and counted.

Half of Essex 7 half of St. lawrence are owens +
    The rest is pro hoffman

  116. AC1 says:

and to think I almost bought some Owens on Intrade for around 20.

  117. Howard Dean 1/20/13 says:

    Hoff wins next year.

  118. Cam Rep says:

What does all of this say for Palin?

  119. Jack the extremist prof says:

Well, i think Hoffman is going to lose this. But i SURE hope that whoever and whatever committee is in charge of recruiting candidates will learn from this. This fiasco should never have happened in the first place.
The most disappointing fact is that DeDe endorsed Owens! She really is a TRAITOR!

  120. Big Joe says:

NY-23 is surprising .. its not over yet, but this is a district that narrowly went for Obama in ‘08. Owens appears to be running only a few points behind Obama. Something is not adding up.

  121. MD says:

I can’t see Hoffman pulling it out. Can’t see it.

Oh well, let’s celebrate our victories. NY 23 is a very strange animal.

  122. Chekote says:

Palin is the king maker. Remember?

  123. Brandon says:

Need a better candidate. Hoffman had the charisma of a rock.

  124. phoenixrisen says:

The Hoffman campaign seems to think they have this. We’ll see.

  125. Chekote says:

    I am happy about Christie.

  126. Jason T. says:

I am hearing breakdowns in 4 Counties will not report until tommorow

Intrade sucks, wrong all frickin day

  127. MD says:

Don’t run Hoffman. The guy is not a great candidate. Run someone with his views but who is a better candidate.

  128. DrJay says:

Guys, half the votes in 2008 were from Madison, Oswego, Oneida, and StLawrence.

  129. Jason T. says:

Dede needs to purfged tommorrow by the GOP. If not the RNC needs to withhold all funds to NY.

  130. wylie e. coyote - super genius says:

#124 We dont need chraisma – we need people who can read and follow the Constitution!

  131. Cam Rep says:

I don’t see how Hoffman wins. Only chance is if the outstanding St. Lawrence precincts are *incredibly* Republican.

The GOP seriously you-know-whatted this up. Tons of moderate Republicans probably just stayed home.

  132. Chekote says:

    #124

This is why citizen politicians don’t succeed. You need a certain level of professionalism. But I think that the key is the unions. McHugh was very pro-union. Hoffman was not.

  133. rdelbov says:

Owens is running behind Obama but the R candidate is still getting 5% of vote.

Hoffman win with the R label

  134. Jason T. says:

MD if Hoffman loses he is done forever.

  135. Brandon says:

Hoffman apparently did terribly with interviews. He didn’t know the districts issues at all. Need a better candidate.

  136. Howard Dean 1/20/13 says:

Um, a THIRD PARTY candidate almost won a House race.

Where the D and R candidates were BOTH against him.

    This was a huge win.

Forcing out the chosen R was a HUGE win also.

  137. MD says:

    Phoenix,

I think they are in denial.

still, Juan Williams is right. NJ is the big story of the night.

  138. Brandon says:

    Christie speech coming now!

  139. Jason T. says:

I will not give up on Hoffman Brandon.

Many here today had Christie a goner too.

  140. Phil says:

Ok,down to one GOP congressman — in the whole fricken state of NY.

    Pathetic.

  141. Chekote says:

Too bad that the NY GOP screwed up NY 23.

  142. Cam Rep says:

Sorry, but in 2010, we need to run someone who actually lives in the district.

  143. rdelbov says:

On another happy note the GOP won a crucial seat to take a 4-3 lead in the PA state supreme court

  144. Chekote says:

McDonnell and Christie set the model. Focus on economic issues. Also, keep Palin out. She repels as much as she attracts.

  145. rdelbov says:

Oh Hoffman could move to the district but I think other GOP conservative types are out there.

  146. Karl R Rove says:

Hoffman needs 4,000 votes in 200 precincts to win.

He can barely get above 50% in counties he won.

    –krr

  147. Brandon says:

CHRISTIE!!!!!!!! Celebrate with a cheeseburger my man!

  148. Jason T. says:

Why the f$ck even bother with NY then. The NY State Seante means nothing if we have only 2 House seats.

what is the point. let these Rino NY bastards have one party rule before they all move to FLA

  149. Cam Rep says:

#141–Nope, two. King in 3 and Lee in 26. But still pathetic.

  150. Phil says:

    Agreed, Hoffman a terrible candidate.

Good to hear about that GOP judicial pickup.

  151. Karl R Rove says:

    (That’s 4,000 net votes.)

  152. MD says:

You just know Springsteen is losing his mind right now! LOL!

  153. Chekote says:

I can’t stand Bruce Springsteen. Great showman. But I don’t like his music.

  154. Jason T. says:

    Rdel, awesome for Penn

  155. wylie e. coyote - super genius says:

#142 I agree, the R party in the state and nationally should never have let this cluster frag happen. In this environment, a mainstream moderate R or mainstream conservative R would have won easily….should have been handled much better then it was!

  156. Polaris says:

Hoffman is dissapointing, but the race isn’t over yet. If the liberal media isn’t calling it for Owens, you shouldn’t either.

As for NJ, it looks like I understated my case. Wow! I knew that people would not vote for an unpopular incumbant, but even I didn’t expect Corzine to be rejected by this margin in NJ.

    -Polaris

  157. wylie e. coyote - super genius says:

FWIW Bloomberg wins – yeah, I guess lol

  158. MD says:

I expect them to call the race for Owens within 10 minutes. It would take a miracle for Hoffman to win.

Don’t sweat it. My baseline R gain in the House was just adjusted by 1 to 48 from 47 and I am assuming that Cao bites the dust.

Unless the Marxists pass Chavezcare, then think 70 house seats.

  159. Jason T. says:

PPP really screwed up the NY-23.

I will not give a dime to the RNC until they dump DeDe

  160. Big Joe says:

Was that a ‘yes we can’ chant at Christie’s victory speech? weird

  161. Brandon says:

PPP nailed NJ but blew NY-23…interesting.

  162. Brandon says:

    #161. Obviously mocking the Obamabots.

  163. Dusty Wolf says:

Christie is good on the mic. Poised and confident. He will make a great governor. Congrats, NJ

  164. Jason T. says:

Opening on Today Show. Palin candidate loses.

  165. Tommy_Boy says:

    NBC just called NY-23

  166. Polaris says:

    #161 and #163

Yes, that’s exactly what it was. Essentially they are throwing Obama’s chants back into his face.

    -Polaris

  167. phoenixrisen says:

Erick Erickson just tweeted Owens lead still shrinking with 10000 absentee ballots still to be counted. http://twitter.com/ewerickson

  168. Cam Rep says:

    #165–

Ha! Yep, that’ll be the banner headline tomorrow, “GOP Slide Continues as Party Loses Key House Race; Seat Was Republican For Last 100 Years”

  169. MD says:

    Polaris,

I think you said Christie by 5 which is exactly what happened. Plus, Mcd absolutely crushed Deeds. I guess the “thesis” didn’t hurt McD.

I remember a few people here who thought it would derail his campaign.

I am very, very, very happy tonight.

  170. phoenixrisen says:

#163 — Wow. Any other media outlets reporting?

  171. Chekote says:

I am remember someone here calling Palin a king maker.

  172. Jason T. says:

Md we need to dump Boehner and Sessions ASAP.

We will never take the House with these clowns.

  173. phoenixrisen says:

    I’m sorry…#166

  174. MD says:

    168 – Phoenix

Whenever a campaign starts to fall back on stuff like that, it means they lost. Everytime.

  175. wylie e. coyote - super genius says:

#166 Keith Oblerman should be happy – this proves that the country really wants a socialist one-party country ruled by a small groups of elites lol

  176. Jason T. says:

Chekote and you had Rudy winning the GOP nom in 2008.

    Let it go.

  177. Chekote says:

Pete Sessions is worthless. No charisma. Can’t make a decent speech. He will probably be voted out in a few cycles as his district is become more and more Hispanic.

  178. phoenixrisen says:

    True MD

  179. MD says:

    JT,

Not a Boehner fan myself but his speech on the crap and tax was a classic. What is your issue with Sessions?

  180. Big D (The only Republican/Libertarian kos plant) says:

I can’t believe how inept the republican party is in local races, they continue to give up house and senate seats that should be slam dunks.

  181. Tommy_Boy says:

11:20 p.m.: Hoffman campaign sources report that only 50 percent of the votes in Oswego County have been counted.

  182. Polaris says:

#172 Chek, She was, but I could count on you to blame Palin for Hoffman (apparently) losing.

I say apparently because it’s not clear yet that Hoffman has in fact lost although the odds against him at this point are long.

    -Polaris

  183. Jason T. says:

Watertown mayor says Hoffman is done. Says DeDe ruined him.

    Says she is finsished politically.

  184. JackJ says:

The gay marriage repeal initiative has pulled ahead in Maine.

  185. Tommy_Boy says:

    Jason T.,

Well, it appears you and I agree on Palin, heh heh.

  186. Diamond Jim says:

From link on #179 (previous thread):

Democrat Bill Owens is leading in the 23rd Congressional District race.

The Plattsburgh attorney has 57,050 votes compared to Conservative Doug Hoffman, a Lake Placid CPA, with 54,538 votes.

Dede Scozzafava, a Republican who dropped out of the race Saturday, has 6,982 votes.

There are more than 10,000 absentee votes to still be counted.

Owens now leads in Jefferson, St. Lawrence, Franklin, Clinton and Essex counties.

Hoffman leads in Lewis, Oswego, Oneida, Fulton, Hamilton and Madison counties.

Owens is maintaining a 48 percent to 46 percent lead.

Four precincts in St. Lawrence County are having mechanical problems and total results for the county won’t be available tonight.

  187. Polaris says:

#182 I just read that. I recommend patience.

    -Polaris

  188. Cam Rep says:

So here will be the question–without Palin and others flooding to Hoffman, might Scozzafava had pulled his out?

  189. Jason T. says:

Sessions wrote the check to DeDe as NrCC Chairman

  190. MD says:

Dede will become a Dem and get some low level job in the party. She will NEVER hold elective office.

  191. Chakademus says:

Come on guys, while you thought Hoffman had a chance to win, you were all hopeful and civil, but when it starts to look like he will lose, all of a sudden he is a bad candidate, Palin’s toxic, etc. Let’s be civil folks, and not destroy our own people. That attitude is terrible!

  192. Jason T. says:

No Cam Rep, ACORN ruined her.

  193. Hunter says:

    Per Watertown Daily Times…

Owens lead down to 2.5K 48-46…

  194. wylie e. coyote - super genius says:

#182 I am sure Hoffman will win there like by what? 10 to 1? Uh, no

  195. phoenixrisen says:

I just looked at the numbers. I have to agree with NBC’s call. Dede killed Hoffman’s chances in Jefferson, Madison, and Oswego counties.

  196. Cam Rep says:

MSNBC still has as its banner the VA races. Refuses to trumpet the NJ results.

  197. Chekote says:

    #177

I did not. I was hoping he would win. Look Palin is polarizing. Also, it seems that the candidates that have the most visible support from talk show hosts don’t fare well. Romney was backed and Mac was savaged by Rush and others. Who won the nomination? I think McDonnell and Christie have the right formula for the GOP. Stick to economics. Adopt a moderate, calm tone. Anger may feel good to the base but doesn’t win elections.

  198. rdelbov says:

    Not on CA-10?

    sleep-need sleep

    Christie +5 on election day

  199. MD says:

    OK JT,

That is enough to sway me!

  200. tgcaGNAT says:

Let’s face it…Palin and others put Hoffman on the map and exposed Scoffa for what she was. That was a good thing for a guy that came from nowhere and late.

  201. Polaris says:

#184 Still too much vote left to count to agree that Hoffman is definatively done (but again the odds aren’t good).

However, he’s right. DeDe is finished political. No one in any political party will ever trust her again. Some may use her, but that’s not the same thing. I hope DeDe is happy with her thirty pieces of silver.

    -Polaris

  202. Opening on Foxnews. Obama candidates lose.

  203. Chekote says:

Thank you early voters for screwing up NY 23.

  204. Chekote says:

    Where have you been Eph?

  205. No more pro-aborts in the GOP – at any level.

If you take $ form the anti-life left you will be defeated.

    Que chek!

  206. Tommy_Boy says:

11:25 p.m.: “I think it’s very premature,” Hoffman campaign spokesman Rob Ryan said of the report that NBC News had called the race for Democrat Owens. “There’s a buncn of big question marks out there.” With many thousands of military absentee ballots and key precincts not reporting, the Hoffman campaign is ready for a long night.

  207. Hunter says:

Why doesn’t everyone relax and wait to see what happens before crapping on Hoffman and saying Palin is a mistake…

Strange, she made robocalls for McDonnell and that certainly didn’t hurt…

    Selective…

  208. MD says:

    TG,

Couldn’t agree more. They almost brought him over the top. Again, I wanted the dem to win before Dede so I am OK with this. We will take it back in 10.

  209. …and gay marriage might go down in Maine. Go figure!!!

  210. Chekote says:

I know Pete Sessions. The only reason he is in Congress is because he is a Republican in Texas. I am serious. He is no Haley Barbour. That’s what we need.

  211. wylie e. coyote - super genius says:

#192 I have nothing against Hoffman – great dude who can read the Constitution and I hope a big miracle happens and he wins. Strangely, I dont have anything against DeDe as she wanted to run as a R despite her leftist views. The problem is the screwed up party appartus, leadership, and process. Why in the hell couldnt they handle their business and get a unified effort?

Hell the D picked this blue dog type Ownens from who the hell knows where and backed him to the hilt – they go for the win each time. R need to learn fast and get their act together fast for 10….

  212. MD says:

    Hunter,

    I forgot about those calls!

  213. MD,

There is no place in the GOP for pro-abortion candidates. None.

  214. Polaris says:

I agree guys. It’s been a great night just about everywhere and are we really suprised that NBC (Neo-Marxist Broadcasting Company) is calling it for Owens early?

I am looking at what’s out and there is no way that NY-23 should be called for anyone. Too many variables.

    -Polaris

  215. W.C.

Brit Hume nailed it – NY23 is the reason why there must be primaries. To weed out the RINOs so it never comes to this.

  216. Tommy_Boy says:

NBC is the only one eh?

  217. Chekote says:

    #215

Run on social issues. That’s the ticket.

  218. Chekote says:

The GOP should be able to get NY 23 back next year. What a frickin’ mess!

  219. Has NBC called the NJ race yet? LOL

  220. Chekote says:

WOW! Christie barely lost Bergen county.

  221. wylie e. coyote - super genius says:

#210 The Kos types will freak over that lol

I seem to remember one “KOS Plant” on here linking to a KOS article decribing anti-gay marriage voters as “dying nazis” or something to that effect lol

  222. Dusty Wolf says:

Gotta love the Springsteen music for Christie. You know that is gonna piss of Bruce. Good speech.

  223. 219 “Run on social issues. That’s the ticket.”

Run on moderation. That’s the ticket.

  224. MD says:

    Wiyle,

Go back to the 93 elections. Look at what happened then and then what happened in 94.

If Obamacare does not pass, then I don’t see us winning the Senate. +6 or +7. We are going to take the House not just because of Obama (although he is certainly a large reason why) but because Pelosi may be the most despised politican in the House ever.

  225. Tommy_Boy says:

11:32 p.m.: Neither the Owens campaign nor the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is declaring victory. As Ryan told me shortly after 11 p.m., “You don’t see the Owens people jumping for joy. . . . They know the same thing we know” — namely the uncertainty of unreported precincts and uncounted absentee ballots.

  226. JackJ says:

221–22% of the vote in: Garamendi (D) 56-40.

  227. Polaris says:

    Chek,

You don’t know for sure that Hoffman has lost. So far only NBC has called the race and from what I am seeing, that was a huge mistake. (I seem to recall that NBC first called Florida for Gore as well).

    Just WAIT AND SEE.

    That goes for everyone. RELAX

    R-E-L-A-X

We had a terrific day and Obama has to be nervous especially since he counted on New Jersey to keep Corzine and put a lot of his personal prestigue on the line to do it.

Just wait and see what will be. Even if Owens does win, I’ll take the Christie victory in NJ anyway….won’t you?

    -Polaris

  228. DrJay says:

I just wanted to mention once more that half the votes in 2008 came from Madison, Oswego, Oneida, and StLawrence.

Siena’s final poll had Hoffman winning thes first three 51-28-4.

They had Owens/Hoffman tied in Lewis, Jefferson, StLawrence

  229. WC.

When gay marriage is defeated in Iowa next year, then the issue will be relegated to the frige far left – much like abortion on demand.

  230. MD says:

    TB,

I am not buying it. The lead is too large.

  231. Palin should have made a personal appearance in NY-23. I know New Yorkers. They expect you to drop in and meet them eye to eye. She needed to press the flesh. Chek-what are your thoughts?

  232. Chekote says:

    From McDonnell’s pollster

set out early to establish Bob as different than Republicans have been in the past few elections – strong on issues that matter most to people.

Our goal back in last winter/spring was to tie on the top issue of jobs/economy, stay close on transportation and education, and win on tax/spending. Ultimately, Bob would end up the campaign with double digit advantages on four of those five issues, and would be tied on education. …

One of the most important ads we ran was relatively early in the campaign, and only ran in downstate markets (it was before we were advertising in the DC DMA). It was Bob to camera talking about his energy plan, which included green jobs. It defined Bob as a forward-looking leader, who is for all of the above – oil, coal, solar, wind – a blend of both traditional and alternative energy.

  233. wylie e. coyote - super genius says:

#217 Yeah, thats very true. I think the party leader types get too far into a bubble (both parties) of CW and dont keep the pulse of the grassroots real well. Likewise, sometimes talk radio is way too slated too. The primaries or at least an open process sorts it out.

This NEVER should have happened…..combined votes of DeDe and Hoffman would have won this one….

  234. phoenixrisen says:

(sigh) and I thought NJ was going to be the long one going into the night.

  235. Chekote says:

    #234

Unless she improves her image, she needs to stay away.

  236. Jason T. says:

Well. if you would have told me this morning that:

    1. Corzine would win without a recount
    2. McDonnell would win that big

3, We would win a Mich Senate Seat
    4. Would win control of the Penn Supreme Court

    I would be damn happy.

We learned that Intrade sucks too.

  237. wylie e. coyote - super genius says:

#235 In other words, they applied common sense and pretty much mainline conservative/free market solutions lol

  238. tgcaGNAT says:

The important thing is that tonight’s results will energize Reps and conservatives and make them see they can still win elections, and this should potentially bring out quality Rep candidates at all levels next year. This does not mean the Reps image problems are over, but it proves the MSM amd the libs were wrong when they claimed the Reps and conservatism were dying. It will be hard for them to make such arguments credibly going forward. The Dems are now on the defense big-time. The question is will this move the Dems to the center or will they ignore it and risk defeat in 2010?

  239. MD says:

    Polaris,

Your right of course. This is a great night. Obama went all chips in on Jersey and crapped out.

The Republic just may have been saved tonight.

  240. Polaris says:

    Chek,

Your obsession with Palin is tiresome. Sit back, grab some popcorn and let’s watch the returns.

    RELAX!

GEEZ people! Even in victory (and it has been a terrific victory tonight) some of you are acting like someone has just shot your dog. We don’t even know for sure that Hoffman has lost yet!

    -Polaris

  241. Polaris says:

    Good point.

Does ANYONE think that Intrade is any good at political prognostications? Anyone?

    Bueller, Bueller,…….

    -Polaris

  242. 236. Dede would have never made it through the prmary – even in secular upstate NY

  243. Chekote says:

    Polaris

I just talk about Palin to bug MD.

  244. Big D (The only Republican/Libertarian kos plant) says:

Polaris, where do the votes come from? I see some Hoffman votes still out there, but where exactly does he really make a major dent in the vote deficit?

  245. Polaris says:

#231 Exactly. That tells me a good chunk of the Hoffman vote is yet to be counted. We need to wait a bit.

    -Polaris

  246. Polaris.

I totally agree. Some on this board want you to think they were actually for Hoffman when they were not.

  247. Jason T. says:

Yes Christie was huge and as knighthawk said it will chill Moderate Senators

  248. Marv says:

    Folks,

Good evening again. Great, great night for conservatives and Republicans. A clean sweep in Virginia and major gains in the Virginia House of Delegates, a win in the New Jersey governor’s race and potential pickups in the New Jersey State Legislature. A Republican has been elected mayor of Stamford, CT for the first time since 1991 (Atlanta and Houston next?). DO NOT sweat NY23, even with a loss. We’ll clean up that mess with a primary next time. Remember that NY23 was the result of an intramural scrimmage and nothing more. The BIG results came in Virginia and New Jersey.

Now it’s on to awaiting the results of CA10 (link anyone?) What happened in the gay deal in Maine?

  249. Chekote says:

Sessions and Steele couldn’t even make sure that Scozza endorse Hoffman. Losers!

  250. MD says:

This is a great night. A deep blue state kicked out a Dem Gov whose campaign was taken over by the President’s people.

Hmmm….Carville is awfully quiet this evening.

  251. Chuck Woolery would be a great candidate.

  252. Phil says:

He’s lost. Damned shame too. I suppose Pelosi and the media will be trumpeting this as a big endorsement of healthcare. That’s bullshit by the way. We all know it.

I’m thrilled as hell with the other races however. Couldn’t have been better.

BTW Polaris, how bout that Democracy Corpse polling in NJ. You were right about Carville.

  253. Hunter says:

    Chek…

Again, Palin did calls for VA…

    How did that turn out?…

Have you ever stepped foot in upstate NY?…

Guess what, I went to school there and spent my summers on the St. Lawrence River most of my life…

    She epitomizes NY -23…

  254. MD,

Never trust retalliation polls my friend.

  255. Chekote says:

Why are you “Banned Again” Eph?

  256. MD says:

    Phil,

The good news is that the blue dogs will know it is bullsh*t as well.

  257. Chekote says:

    #256

Give it a rest. When she resigned she said she would campaign for Republicans. Immediately, both McDonnell and Christie said that they did not want her to visit the state. Robocalls is not campaigning. She is polarizing. She has a bad image with the larger electorate. Let’s see what she does in her upcoming book tour.

  258. 258. I made an off color joke about asins earlier in the day. It was pretty funny. I guess Dave didnt think so.

  259. VictrC says:

OMG Chek, do you ever ever give up. Ive never, and I mean never, seen someone so jealous of someone else. Get over it. Shes important to the GOP. She motivates a lot of people. She has made some great statements and been ahead of the curve on many things.

You dont like her, too bad.

How about letting it go and making statements and comments that further the conversation. Not saying dont say anything bad about Palin, but come on, we get it, you hate her. Ok move on to the rest of the night.

  260. “Immediately, both McDonnell and Christie said that they did not want her to visit the state.”

Links? And please provide direct quotes from each candidate. Not from the New Minority website. Thanks

  261. Chekote says:

    #261

Why do you keep getting in trouble like that? What am I going to do with you?!?!?!?!?

  262. sam says:

    Here’s my prediction for 2010:

    Reps gain 11 more governorships.

Reps gain 63+ seats in the House.

Reps gain 9+ seats in Senate.

Reason? People are pissed, and likely to remain so. They will punish the incumbent party.

  263. Chekote says:

    Where is Wes?

  264. “Ive never, and I mean never, seen someone so jealous of someone else.”

    hahhahahahha

    On that note…good night everyone!

  265. Jason T. says:

Marv, well said Buddy. Big lesson tonight is that polling sucks as does Intrade.

In two years we will be posting here and I will remind all that never trust Intrade.

  266. Polaris says:

#255 It wasn’t hard (regarding Dem Corps). The Dem Corps internals were simply impossible to believe with a straight fact in a GOP year (more Dem support for Corzine than GOP support for Christie AND only a 10 pt Indy lead for Corzine indeed….how did that work out?)

    -Polaris

  267. “Big lesson tonight is that polling sucks as does Intrade.”

Obama approval = 43%. Take it to the bank!

  268. Chekote says:

Stop the jeolous crap. Are you guys jealous of Obama? You spend all day ragging on him. Must be jealousy!

Anyway. If the GOP had not screwed up NY 23 all the attention would be on NJ and VA.

  269. wylie e. coyote - super genius says:

What is Obamacare selling for on Intrade tonight?

  270. Hunter says:

    Chek…

    You’re great…

You make bold, sweeping statements about how polarizing she is, she makes a contribution and you crap on that…

Unfortunately, based on most of your statements here, it’s evident what your game is…

Anyone who has a fascination with Van Jones pretty much has a few things loose in her little head…

  271. MD says:

The real story of the day is that Marv and I (along with some silent partners) took control of the Christian Family Polling organization and renamed it to CFP. We are going to branch out and extend the brand. In a show of kindness, we are keeping EPH on as a special consultant.

  272. Marv says:

There is a new thread above. Let’s go there.

  273. Polaris says:

#272 Yes Chek, but lest you forget it was GOP precint mandarins that FOLLOWED FRUM’s advice that screwed up NY-23 by allowing a democrat to run as a republican.

    -Polaris

  274. Chekote says:

    #274

Hey Van Jones is good looking. That’s a fact. I just liked his looks and was honest enough to admit. I wish many of you would just admit that you like Palin’s looks. Honesty people!

  275. Marv says:

    #275 MD

I suggest that we convene our first board meeting at the Royal Hawaiian in Honolulu and charge all the travel expenses to Eph.

  276. MD says:

    Hunter,

I don’t read her posts and I certainly would not risk Carpel Tunnell by responding.

  277. Chekote says:

    #277

Give it a rest. Frum said that Hoffman was a better fit than Scozza.

  278. MD says:

    Yes, Marv I agree.

    Thank you Eph

  279. Chekote says:

MD we know you don’t read my posts. Nobody gives a chit about what you read or what you call yourself.

  280. Hunter says:

IF Hoffman loses, it has NOTHING to do with Palin’s endorsement Chek…

    Get over it…

    Get friggin over it…

If you blame her for his loss then you need to congratulate her for the win VA…

  281. Marv says:

Look folks, a Hoffman loss is irritating and that’s all. In the big picture, it doesn’t mean anything. The internal Republican re-alignment will continue and the conservatives are on the ascendancy. (Eph, that means on the up swing)
