Fox News Crushes Other Cable News Networks

The television ratings are out for election night and FOX News was by far and away the top ratings getter. The numbers from TVNewser.

ELECTION NIGHT RATINGS
Fox News 4.04 million
MSNBC 974,000
HLN 842,000
CNN 826,000

Not too surprising consider it was a Republican night and Fox News managed to beat out the liberal news networks pretty handidly. However, do not count me in as a fan of Fox News on Election nights. I had the same complaint last year and last night, I thought, was even worse.

I would flip on Fox News when CNN or MSNBC would go to commercial, but that was about it. I have found over the past few election cycles that the coverage of elections Fox News provide is horrible. Their graphics suck and the on air personalities they use are just terrible. And don’t even get me started on the ridiculous Frank Luntz focus groups they subject us to.

Don’t get me wrong, I am normally a Fox news fan, but in 2008 and for this election, their coverage is beyond awful bordering on unwatchable. I like Sean Hannity on his radio show, but I would much rather have someone analyze the results and telling me what is going on instead of just listening to Sean Hannity and Karl Rove spout talking points. By the way, Karl Rove could not have been more wrong about the NY 23 race. For election night coverage, except for Wolf Blitzer, CNN is still far and away the best network to watch and will continue to be until someone at Fox News realizes how bad things are.

There, I said it – I like CNN more than Fox News….

Cnn sucks, they really got crushed.

  3. Tim V says:

    Wes/Jay,

I thought INC’s response was well reasoned and appropriate to your gay marriage post and she called you out on your rhetorical ploy as well.

  4. Tim V says:

    Tina,

CNN is caught between the right and the left. They are on the left but msnbc has outflanked them on the left and taken the more partisan libnuts.

  5. Tim V says:

I never cared for the term ” wingnuts” . What is the best derogitive term for a liberal ? Perhaps you might give us a nickname, Tina.

  6. Tina says:

I refer to them as the mentally disturbed, Tim V.

Wes, stay away from that site. INC will destroy.

  7. “And don’t even get me started on the ridiculous Frank Luntz focus groups they subject us to”

Agreed. And notice last night that the only black people in the audience always raised their hands when the question benefited Hussein?

  8. Tina says:

I just wish that CNN was not abroad, or that they had another competitor. CNN International gives us a bad name.

The evil – Czar Tina- would probably shut them down.

  9. Wes says:

Well reasoned, Tim? Not quite. She didn’t answer the question though.

  10. Wes says:

Any, I’ll catch you guys and ladies later.

  11. Chekote says:

At least last night the Luntz group was more lively. I was hoping for a Jerry Springer moment.

  12. Tina says:

I am on my 2nd limoncello. I am celebrating the defeat of Marxism tonite…I could not celebrate last night.

  13. JerryC says:

Uhhhh. There are 4 million people who disagree with you. I guess David Gergan sends tingles up your leg or something.

  14. Tina says:

What analysis did the token Rino; David Gergatate; Rowme Martin; and Wolfie provide?

  19. Tim V says:

I would like to take a cross country trip to meet the hhr regulars. that would be fun. then i could share a limoncello with Tina, big meat on the grill with Tim, pray with Darrell and RD, have a steak with MD, share a few laughs with Eph, and so on….

I could take pics and post them on HHR.

  20. Chekote says:

BTW, the claim that a Republican held NY 23 since the civil war is pure bunk. A Democrats held it from 1979-1993. Check it out for yourself:

i find it poor logic to say that because homosexuals are evil they should not be allowed to marry. heterosexuals do not marry because they are good, they marry because they are free to do so. likewise homosexuals should not be allowed to marry because they are good and republicans evil, but because they are human beings and free citizens of this country.

you betcha.and she can make mince meat of arguements that you wes and knova have to offer… :)

  23. Tina says:

    Piglos says the Ds won.

    LOL

  24. Chekote says:

Not true. She is the reason I was banned at BJG. She couldn’t win arguments after years of trying and threaten to leave if JustMary didn’t ban me. Lots of flowery language but no substance. She is a theocrat who would be more than happy to have a big government as long it enforces her morality.

  25. Chekote says:

    #22

I agree. It has nothing to do with morality.

  26. lisab says:

    i’ve changed my mind

  27. Chekote says:

What kind of pathetic media we have that they couldn’t check the simple fact that NY 23 HAS NOT been held by a Republican since the Civil War.

  28. Chekote says:

    #27

Go back under the rock you have been hiding under.

  29. jason says:

I agree the Fox coverage was rather weak. Joe Trippi looked like he had been drugged. And the banner only had the VA, NJ and then NY races, why didn’t they have all the other races going on, at least intermittently?

And neither CNN or Fox a website link where you could access all the races.

  30. Chekote says:

I would much rather have someone analyze the results and telling me what is going on instead of just listening to Sean Hannity and Karl Rove spout talking points. By the way, Karl Rove could not have been more wrong about the NY 23 race.

Couldn’t agree more. Also, Karl Rove is the reason the GOP lost everything. His plan to ensure a Republican majority for years to come was a total bust.

  31. jason says:

    “Piglos says the Ds won.”

Don’t laugh, such disconnect with reality is scary…..

  32. Chekote says:

    #30

I was hoping for Barone to analyze the numbers. But no… we got Hannity repeating “no pale pastels” for the 50th time in the same day. He is boooooring.

  33. lisab says:

    chekote,

do you know the difference between you and a fat brained ass?

    no?

    the fat brained ass would.

  34. Chekote says:

    lisab

At least I have no illusion that a blog would fall apart just because I stop posting. Anyway, welcome back. I hope you stick around.

  35. Chekote says:

I was listening to Fred Thompson and he seems to think that there will be no vote on HC this year.

  36. jason says:

Actually Rove had some good numbers on the NJ race as far as counties that were coming in…..and his analysis was good if not for NY 23.

Cannot agree that “Rove caused the GOP to lose everything”…he Presidential campaigns he managed were winners…he didn’t run McCain’s campaign…

Did he let the Democrats control the talking points and define the Republicans in 2006? Sure he did but he can share the blame with a lot of other people.

  37. Chekote says:

    Jason

Rove is the one that thought combining social issue with federal programs would ensure a Republican majority. He did the same thing as Dems. Tried to buy constituencies with government largesse. It blew up the GOP coalition.

  38. lisab says:

i am not back, tim v asked me to check out the gay debate, so i did.

although i did think of you today … my class went on a field trip to the local zoo.

the fat cows are quite big right now.

  39. jason says:

“I was listening to Fred Thompson”

Fred is ok but I don’t know if he is a definitive source for HC votes….

  40. Tim V says:

Okay. I thought you got tired of talking to yourself at Rightpundits. Oh well, you can leave now.

the gay debate was a few threads below

  45. jason says:

“Rove is the one that thought combining social issue with federal programs would ensure a Republican majority.”

As you know, I share most of your views about social issues and the GOP. But I disagree that Rove was a big social issues guy.

  46. Chekote says:

    #40

I kinda like his show. But he needs to get rid of Jerry. She just makes him look old. She hurt him in the presidential election.

  47. Tim V says:

43- yes she did. but you could have just let it go by.

  48. Chekote says:

POlaris needs a few Maxim magazine. After looking at several good looking women, he might not be so blinded by Palin’s looks.

  49. lisab says:

i did not attack first, i simply said i changed my mind.

    i did not say why

  50. knova says:

23 – If you have an argument with me then bring it on. I stay out of the BJG neighborhood, because it is a bit farther to the right than i wis to be. Inc is well written, but anyone who presumes to tell me that Ayn Rand did not know what Ayn Rand was thinking obviously has a POV that can not be reasoned with.

Now please continue to shun me. Your God would probably appreciate it.

  51. Chekote says:

    #48

Later on, I welcome her back and said I hoped she would stay. Look, she is a grow up and she can dish it out. I don’t see why I have to tip toe around her.

  52. Chekote says:

    #50

Okay lisab. Stay. There is no need to leave. I won’t attack you again.

  53. lisab says:

well that is very big of you chekote,

you are a very special person

in a stop eating the paste kinda way

  54. Chekote says:

INC is a nice lady. Writes very well. But make no mistake about it. She would embrace big government if it was pushing her views on morality. Also, the people who put BJG together have NO CLUE about Ayn Rand and what she stood for. It is basically a religious right wing blog that has no clue about Rand’s views on religion vs. reason.

  55. Chekote says:

    #54

I WILL NEVER GIVE UP PASTA! NEVER!!!!

  59. Chekote says:

Did I ever tell you that you bore the crap out of me. Oh well, I just did.

  60. knova says:

55- I disagree a little, as JustRand appears to be a pretty reasonable person and leaves most of the religious stuff out of it. I have a lot of respect for him.

  61. Chekote says:

I knew Politico would spin NY 23 as a loss for conservatives. They are so frickin’ predictible.

  62. 2012NSE says:

59, is their a point? Your ideals pushed on me has a greater effect than me doing what I want and you doing the same.

  63. Chekote says:

JustRand was trying to build a broad based blog. He basically agrees with me that abortion should be legal in the first trimester and restricted beyond that. Interestingly, all the men who were so vociferous in their attack on me for having the same stance as JR, didn’t have the balls to attack him. The site started becoming more and more religious once INC became a regular poster. So you got MFG who is overly dramatic. IP with his homophobia. RWY with his reactionary, gun blazing nonsense. BC who has the hots for Palin. That blog is a mess and it has NOTHING to do with Ayn Rand.

  64. Chekote says:

Where is Wes tonight? I need to feel loved and appreciated.

  65. Tim V says:

now girls, please no cat fights.

knova, i disagree with you on gay marriage and abortion but I believe you to be a born again Christian. I also disagree with you on placing more emphasis on the gospels than the rest of the bible.

I respect your intellect and find you to be articulate, and erudite. I think you may have a bit of a thin skin sometimes and sometimes you come across as a bit pompous to me but overall, I have a lot of respect for you and do not wish to fued with you.

You are quite logical and an excellent debater.

  66. Chekote says:

They are on a mission from God. At least they think they are. You can’t reason with that.

  67. Tim V says:

  68. Charles says:

    dear plant,

Did I ever tell you that nobody here who is sane and rational pays attention to you between your PDS and Frum-endorsement?

  69. Chekote says:

    #69

And you think I actually care about that?

  70. Karl R Rove says:

I am still crushed about Hoffman. I think my testosterone count has dropped as it did after McCain lost. (Although it went down less in 2008, as I dislike many McCain policies such as McCain-Stanglehold.)

  77. knova says:

66 – you come across as a bit pompous to me

I suppose that my being right all the time would make it seem that way ;)

I do not wish to feud with anyone as it takes a lot of negative energy to do so. We are probably closer on the “A” issue than you think. It is interesting that pitchaboy and JustRand who I alluded to and I all agree that there does come a time, perhaps not a tconception, but pretty early on (and due to medical science getting earlier) that a fetus becomes viable and termination not a good choice. We all agree that PBA is murder.

The other, I simply put in terms of not special rights but the same right. And all i have done is asked how it personally affects those not directly involved in the relationship. People quote the Bible and i just take it to the next logical step, i.e. if certain laws in Leviticus are to be obeyed, why not ALL of them, especially when I was old today that Christ came “not to change a single law.” That is when the attacks start and formerly reasonable people talk in the most vulgar and bigoted of terms, then twist Sacred writings to match what are really their secular views.

So if i seem a bit testy today, go back and read some of the things that were said to me, when all I did was ask questions.

#64 I must admit to being a newcomer to BJG but in the couple months posting over there I must admit I really dont see a huge relgious or imposing morality thru government angle over there…..

Basically alot of following politics and polls (just like on here)

Its really no more or less disfunctional then any of the other thousands of blogs out there

Essentially, if you dont like it dont go there – apply your 1st amendment right lol

  79. wylie e. coyote - super genius says:

#77 Geesh, why are we trying so hard too make the NY23 thing into a R party issue or Hoffman personality defect thing SOLELY….

Damm, the D ran a solid candidate, poured alot of cash in there, and ran a solid race too….

Give the other team a bit of credit – I bet Owen feels he had a bit to do with Owens win too lol

  80. knova says:

79 – There are good writers over at BJG, and some very interesting articles written for comment. I have found that posting needs to stay within certain boundary conditions, while over here at HHR the boundary confditions are much broader and at Rightpundits it is just flat out wild West looney bin with no boundaries right or left. It is sensory overload at RP.

  81. wylie e. coyote - super genius says:

#81 I have never been over to the rightpundit blog yet

  82. Tim V says:

why not ALL of them- i believe rd or darell answered that one concerning the dietary laws. as for stoning a child that curses his parents, i have no good answer. when i dont have the answers i simply defer to God.there is much in the bible that troubles my human understanding, especially in the Old Testament. What I do is agree with the “his ways are higher than our ways”

i try to be obedient to what the bible says but like everyone else i fall short. but i will not place my own judgment above what the Bible says.

the Bible clearly teaches that homosexuality is a sin so I agree. it also says to take the beam out of my own eye first so i try to be reasonably tolerant.

  83. knova says:

82 – it is a bit difficult to navigate and has a real wide readership. The driveby from the trolls here have nothing on the crazies that come over there. Once you get the hang of it it can be pretty entertaining.

To me, the funniest thing about all of these blogs is the different behavior on the different blogs by the same people.

  84. AC1 says:

Hoffman was to far to the right for NY-23 and DEDe was too far left. If we had originally nominated a Chris Christie clone in NY-23, we would have won by 10.

  85. knova says:

83 – God will deal with all of us at sometime or another. He will determine what those sins are. I also believe that he will deal harshly with those who choose the law over forgiveness here on earth. But that is just me.

You are a good guy Tim…when you want to be:)

  86. phoenixrisen says:

The NRSC gets out of the way and won’t fund any candidates until the primaries are decided. This allows the people to choose and fund candidates. Smartest move I’ve seen a GOP branch do all year. Here that NRCC? You should follow suit. And per Redstate, Jim DeMint endorses Chuck Devore while Leaky Lindsay is supporting Fiorina. Fiorina can’t feel that good about the NRSC witholding endorsement and knocking out a fundraising arm that Fiorina was counting on. She will have to go out and fundraise herself or self finance. Evidently she’s not faring well against DeVore either. Good times.

  87. DrJay says:

“People quote the Bible and i just take it to the next logical step, i.e. if certain laws in Leviticus are to be obeyed, why not ALL of them, especially when I was old today that Christ came “not to change a single law.””

This is not true, but sounds to be in reference to a quote I supplied. You said Christ did not address homosexuality; NSE asked for the words of Christ, so I showed that he addressed the law in general, and said he did not come to abolish the law (he certainly came to fulfill it), and that he directly stated that the law still applies. I did not espouse either side; I didn’t even make commentary. Don’t shoot the messenger.

I do not disagree with anything you’ve said in #87, by the way.

  88. knova says:

Since I can’t get all of my information from blogs, I occasionally will get a book. This past weekend I purchased The Federalist Papers ($7.95 new at Borders, free at http://www.constitution.org) I just finished Federakist #1 and even in this introduction there are some words to try to live by:

It is not, however, my design to dwell upon observations of this nature. I am well aware that it would be disingenuous to resolve indiscriminately the opposition of any set of men (merely because their situations might subject them to suspicion) into interested or ambitious views. Candor will oblige us to admit that even such men may be actuated by upright intentions; and it cannot be doubted that much of the opposition which has made its appearance, or may hereafter make its appearance, will spring from sources, blameless at least, if not respectable–the honest errors of minds led astray by preconceived jealousies and fears. So numerous indeed and so powerful are the causes which serve to give a false bias to the judgment, that we, upon many occasions, see wise and good men on the wrong as well as on the right side of questions of the first magnitude to society. This circumstance, if duly attended to, would furnish a lesson of moderation to those who are ever so much persuaded of their being in the right in any controversy.

Were there not even these inducements to moderation, nothing could be more ill-judged than that intolerant spirit which has, at all times, characterized political parties. For in politics, as in religion, it is equally absurd to aim at making proselytes by fire and sword. Heresies in either can rarely be cured by persecution.

I will try to do better to practice this.

I do not disagree with anything you’ve said in #87, by the way.

    What’s wrong with Tim?

And to ask you again, if he did not come to abolish a single law, then why not obey all of them. It is a simple question and should be simply answered.

  91. DrJay says:

I gave you that answer already; I should obey all of them, but it is not in my nature. I am covered by the fulfillment of the law in Jesus Christ. Again, I gave you the simple answer already…

  92. 2012NSE says:

    DrJay

All sins are the same in they eyes of God, and we are all sinners. Yet the reason we are saved is Christ gave his life so all the sinners are forgiven. So gays really just commit a sin you don’t. The way I read it is Jesus really does not care what sin you commit. What gives SoCons the right to discriminate where Christ won’t.

  93. knova says:

87 – oops I read that as I do not agree, my mistake.

The reasons that I ask the questions that I do, it that there seems to be so much contridiction in the Bible, as well as absolutes. Like Tim, my understanding of what God’s plan is pretty limited.

On the other hand, it will be equally forgotten that the vigor of government is essential to the security of liberty; that, in the contemplation of a sound and well-informed judgment, their interest can never be separated; and that a dangerous ambition more often lurks behind the specious mask of zeal for the rights of the people than under the forbidden appearance of zeal for the firmness and efficiency of government. History will teach us that the former has been found a much more certain road to the introduction of despotism than the latter, and that of those men who have overturned the liberties of republics, the greatest number have begun their career by paying an obsequious court to the people; commencing demagogues, and ending tyrants.

I don’t understand why people change persona or name. BJG hasn’t been religious lately because of the election. Pretty soon INC will be back with her “In defense of life” posts. Interestingly, she and others like her have no problem with going to war even though we all know that innocent children will die. What bothers me about so many in the so called pro-life movement seen to only care that the child is born. Once here, he can starve; be killed in war and the rest. It is really more a pro-birth movement than anything. I say let’s take care of the chidren that are here now first before worrying about the ones yet to be.

I agree with 94… if anyone had been interested, I would have said that. Except that, if you mean by “discriminate”, to “treat poorly” or “to not forgive”, I am in agreement. If you mean “to not let them marry”, then I don’t see how this is discrimination biblically… that seems a secular, libertarian view to me. God said we should “leave and cleave”…husband and wife; God has asked us to be set apart… I will not lie and say that God says homosexuality is okay…. he said no once, and is the same yesterday, today, and forever. I will also not tell a homosexual that they cannot go to heaven; I am not the judge… I don’t know that. Jesus came to fulfill the law: certain sacrificial laws are only rendered obsolete because he fulfills them; certain judgements are only rendered obsolete because he will judge them. But I do not see how the laws outlining sin are suddenly obsolete.

You ask about the punishment of stoning a child who curses his father… the judgement of this sin will occur by the appointed one. And moreso, Jesus said a person who calls another ‘fool’ is in danger of the fires of hell (sounds a lot worse than Leviticus to me).

Ras had a survey yesterday asking the question who do you blame for the economy?/??

Bush was just 5 points ahead of the Obumbler on this quesation. The Obumbler and his gang of Marxists can not continue to blame the previous administration. They own the economy and over 3 million jobs have been lost since they took office. Unemployment is 4 points higher than when he won the election.

  118. Chekote says:

Scozza was not a moderate. She was a liberal. And if you look at the people who have represented NY 23 in the recent past, many of them were either liberal Republicans or Democrats despite the media putting out the LIE that the seat had been in Republican hands since the Civil War.

Yes, it does. Too bad it got taken over by the libs.

  138. wylie e. coyote - super genius says:

#110 I am fairly certain that the pro life folks dont advocate starvation or favor war…..I see no evidence of this – basically its just a throwaway line tossed out to vilify them

I essentially think their motives are good, however there methods are self defeating

Every human has an inherent right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness

The question is when that protection kicks in. Clearly that does take place for the unborn as we have many homicide law covering murder of the unborn – when and how to afford the unborn this protection is the question – reasonable people disagree on when that may occur thats why we dont need a Federal one-size-fits all solution. States need to determine based on the what there resident wants. If you disagree, you can move to another state. Thats Federalism. Both pro and anti abortion people totally miss this point and want it all their way.

Anti-abortion people would be better off using arguning for common sense laws based on protection of individual rights and changing the social culture so people agree with their point of view. Its increasigly valid as technology pushes viability of the unborn back closer and closer to conception.

My answer probably does not satisfy you nor anyone else. But its a principled and consistent opinion based on protection of individual rights.

Thats why I say individual rights and personal freedoms along with a proper understanding of the purpose of government is key for everyone to understand.

  139. Chekote says:

I am fairly certain that the pro life folks dont advocate starvation or favor war

Never said that. Some in the pro-life movement seem to be more pro-birth than pro-life. I don’t see how a truly pro-life person could ever support war when we all know that innocent civilians will be killed.

  140. wylie e. coyote - super genius says:

#132 Yes, many of the founders feared that unconstrained government would result in reinposition of tyranny. I would say that they were correct in their foresignt. Once it was decided that we would look beyond the literal meaning of the Constitution and the amendment process was discounted as the means of making fundamental change then we were on put on the road to a government of men and not of laws.

More fundamental understanding of the principles of individual rights, consent of the governed, Federalism, and limited government is sorely needed by all – conservatives included as we often “talk the talk” but dont “walk the walk” so to speak and dream up numerous “special cases” we support to support government intervention which infringe on our individual rights

  141. Tina says:

    night gang.

  142. wylie e. coyote - super genius says:

#141 Well war is sometimes not an option in order to defend our citizens individual rights from external threats…..

Just as an individual citizen who attacks you violently forefits his own right to life (ie you have the right to defend yourself to preserve your own right to life), the same principle applies at a natiional level.

For example, imperial Japan attacked us and posed a threat to our individual rights and physical safety. They were acting collectively as a nation therefore there are really no “innocent” civilians in a truly just war as they are supporters (tacit or active) of the aggressor nation…..

I see no inconsistentcy in supporting the concept of individual rights for unborn life and a lasize faire attitude toward people following birth. We are guarenteed only the pursuit of happiness and not the asssurance of it.

  143. wylie e. coyote - super genius says:

Anyway, he and a bunch of his little holigan friends went to an A’s/Yankees game and would yell at Babe Ruth through the holes. They called him every bad name you can think of.

Finally, someone called him a Motherf+++ker. Babe came over and put his eye on the hole and said,

“Boys, I don’t mind if you call me an as+hole or co**suck** but don’t get personal”.

My grandfather, God rest his soul, loved that story.

I would spend hours at that crazy art gallery in Ocean City.

I have fond memories of my life there.

Just after getting the negative crap for my relationship, PLUS a taste of the California good life, wasnt much of a reason to stay.

  174. MD says:

I actually think the Inner Harbor is overrated but I have only been there a few times so I may not know the good places to hang out and eat. The tourist traps are always the worst. It does take time to learn the secrets of a place like Phillips and Embers. Newbies always go to Phillips.

How about that Jolly Roger? I would like to firebomb that place. Except for the waterpark which is awesome.

  175. MD says:

If you go a little bit further to the south, I love Georgetown in DC. A lot of energy and some really good places to eat. A friend of mine, a hard right wing Republican, works at Foggy Bottom and knows all the inside baseball.

And yes, the Inner Harbor is vastly overrated but it sure beats the hell out of what was there before it. I wouldnt know first hand because I was born just when Schaefer was in his last years of mayor, but from what my family described it, it was basically “The Block, outstratched.

#187 is right. You nominate a moderate Republican. NOT scovavawhatchamacallit nor Hoffman- he was a carpetbagger in the districts eyes.

That was our only real mistake, cost us a congressional seat but we could probably win it back next year.

Very surprised about the result in New Jersey, though I did imply a few days back I wouldnt be surprised if Christie got over 50%. he didnt, but got damn close to it, and with a 4 pt lead over Corzine- widest margin for a GOP gubernatorial winner in years.

I think so-called conservative Democrats need to watch themselves if they want ot be reelected next year.

It was the first election night I was really looking forwards too since 2002.

  188. theoneandonlyfinn says:

let me be frank when I say moderate Republican I mean a fiscal conservative who may be liberal on social matters. We can all fight over abortion and gay marriage some other time. Theres more important issues like the deficits, expansion of government under Obama AND Bush, government takeovers of private industry, etc. Moderate republicans need to pass a fundamental fiscal litmus test. No on cap n trade. No on additional bank bailouts. No on hiking taxes, and if new programs force that, then cut the programs.

You can win over states like NY and California with liberal Republicans- why resort to RINOS?

  189. theoneandonlyfinn says:

    #191- tis, tis!

Within your litmus test list for moderate Republicans, you could include “strong on national defense and not use of force averse.”

  191. theoneandonlyfinn says:

#194- thats pretty much a given.

Im thinking how do you use your views to get others on board- not reach out to them (thats a middle of the road strategy that failed miserably in 2008 with McCain)- So Cons will side with you anyway because of the party line on those issues. FiCons and Libertarians and Indies will jump on the small-government jobs-friendly/business friendly bandwagon if you make that THE bandwagon.

  193. Marv says:

    #196 theoneandonlyfinn,

I agree with your line of thinking. The Republicans would have very little trouble attracting supporters if they stuck to their core values; strong national defense, smaller and less intrusive government, low taxes across the board, and fewer onerous or counterproductive regulations. The social issues can be worked out at the ballot box by popular referendum if necessary and actually should be settled on a state by state basis, i.e. Federalism. (CA Prop 8 and ME Question 1)

  194. wylie e. coyote - super genius says:

    #198 Concur with ya!

A good quote from Newt on the subject:

“However, all of us who oppose the Left need to realize that civil war within the GOP will reelect Barack Obama and make Nancy Pelosi speaker for life.

As pollster Frank Luntz said, “When the GOP is united, there is no state in America that we cannot win — even the most Democratic states like New Jersey. But when the GOP is divided, even the most Republican districts are in jeopardy.”

Building a unified, center-right coalition on a nationwide basis will be the greatest challenge Republicans face in the next three years.”

  195. Marv says:

    #199 wylie

I don’t think that there will be a civil war within the Republican Party, there will be a significant re-alignment, just as there was after Reagan lost the nomination to Ford in 1976.
The tea party folks and the tax day protesters will eventually settle in at the Republican Party and will assume leadership positions at the local levels.

Luntz was correct, the Republicans can win virtually every state everytime. The message and platform positions must be a simple to understand set of conservative positions; those are winners whenever they are on the ballot.

  196. Marv says:

    Good night folks.

  197. BernieSadori says:

Piglosi didn’t win anything last night. Even though Owens won, he barely beat a conservative candidate that did not even live in the district. I believe it’s safe to say Mr. Owens will be looking out for himself and vote with the “bluedogs” on Obamacare.

In the grand scheme of things, it was better Owens won than Scarrka8s75098311!#va. She would probably have voted for the bill and Piglosi and Obmama could point to her and the bill as a “bi-partisan” effort.

  198. Tommy_Boy says:

On an anualized basis, that’s a 3 basis point reduction in Obama’s approval rating per year. That means at the end of his four year term, our man-child will have a 50% approval rating in MD. If Obama runs again, the Republican will beat him by a 8 points.

There is a difference, chekote, between signing on to every aspect of someone’s belief system versus agreeing with them on some principles. I don’t ascribe to all Ayn Rand’s beliefs, but do feel her core principles of freedom as expressed in ‘The Fountainhead’ and ‘Atlas Shrugged’ have relevance today.
