CT: Rell Won’t Run For Re-Election

According to Politico, popular Connecticut Republican Governor Jodi Rell will be calling it quits.

Connecticut GOP Gov. Jodi Rell announced Monday that she will not run for re-election in 2010.

Rell did not list a specific reason for her decision during a brief news conference, saying simply that “it’s time.”

“After much soul-searching, and discussion with my family, I have decided not to seek re-election next year,” the Connecticut Republican said.

Too bad for Republicans as Rell would have probably been a shoe-in for re-election next year. Other than Ned Lamont who was crushed by Joe Lieberman in a race for the US Senate in 2006, I don’t really know about any of the other candidates the Politico article mentions and whether this helps the Democrats enough next year to allow them to pick up this seat.

    Hey! I already announced this.

  3. Howard Dean says:

Is she going to target Dodd?

That would be a cakewalk for her.

  4. Wes says:

Simmons will be the GOP nominee against Dodd, Howie.

  5. KnightHawk says:

    Finally a new thread!

  6. Howard Dean says:

Not if Rell jumps in, Wes.

  7. DrJay says:

I had to leave for a while, Wes. So just to correct the record.

    “Wes says:
Actually, Jay, the NRCC didn’t recruit Scozzafava. The local party chairs chose her.”

I know Dede wasn’t recruited. I was saying that Ayotte was recruited by NRSC, if it matters to the conversation we were having. I believe that some here said that the NRCC gave money to Dede though, is that correct?

  8. sam says:

Damn, I was counting on keeping the CT governorship, in my count of 11+ Rep pickup in 2010.

  9. Wes says:

Yes, Jay, the NRCC gave her $900,000.

  10. wylie e. coyote - patriotic american citizen says:

From NRO, shockingly enough, the left is really all about destroying private HC in this country:

“PhRMA Is Shocked About GosHealth [Benjamin Zycher]

Make that shocked, shocked. “We are disappointed . . . by today’s vote,” PhRMA said in a statement following Saturday’s House health-care vote. “While well intentioned [!], the bill . . . would have the unintended consequences [sic] of killing tens of thousands of jobs in our industry . . .”

As I have argued before, it just doesn’t get any stupider than this. Having made an unenforceable $80 billion deal with the White House, having spent upwards of $130 million on advertising in favor of health-care socialism, having been blind all this time to the reality that they are in an ideological battle in which the Left has painted a bullseye on them: PhRMA now just cannot believe that the Beltway Left would view them as both a piggy bank and an obstacle blocking their fundamental goal of centralizing health care, health-care research, and health-care lobbying in the vast monster soon to be known as GosHealth.

The comedy highlight, of course, is the plaintive cry about “killing tens of thousands of jobs in our industry.” Did PhRMA believe that the $80 billion deal would have increased such employment? Did it not occur to them that the $80 billion inevitably would come to be an opening bid? Does PhRMA believe that the Pelosi/Waxman axis gives a hoot about PhRMA employment? Does PhRMA believe that Mr. Obama would veto a bill violating his earlier promises? This utter unreality is really quite amazing. But not as amazing as the salaries these guys are paid to pursue their own destruction, and ours.

as the author says, when will these fools learn that the left will always screw them at first opportunity!

  11. Wes says:

Sam, Mike Fedele–Rell’s Lt Gov–will probably win the GOP nod. He’s a moderate of Italian descent who has had a fairly successful political and social career in the state. I’d say he at least gives the GOP a chance to hold the seat–especially if Dodd drags Connecticut Dems down next year.

  12. rdelbov says:

I think any GOP candidate would have a more then fair chance to win CT’s Gov. Lamont – Dodd would be an absolute titantic like combo

  13. sam says:

    Wes:

Bottom line, Rell’s retirement lessens the chances of keeping the governorship.

  14. DrJay says:

    #9 Okay, thanks, Wes.

  15. sam says:

With Rell, Reps had 99% chance of keeping the seat.

That number is going to go down, regardless of who the Reps nominate, or the Dems nominate. How much does the probability fall, I don’t know.

  16. Wes says:

That may be, Sam, but if you’re going to have a popular Governor of your party retire, then a year when even a mediocre candidate can beat a strong candidate of the opposition is ideal.

  17. Wes says:

I think the GOP had a 100% chance of keeping the seat with Rell, Sam. Now it’s probably in the 60-70 range, but that’s not a bad position necessarily for the GOP.

  18. Wes says:

Godo news: Richard Blumenthal will not seek the governoship next year. Advantage: GOP.

  19. Wes says:

    Godo=good.

  20. sam says:

    Agreed, Wes.

    I just dont know whether it becomes a 70-30, or a 60-40, or 50-50, or 40-60.

A sure shot became a shot in the dark. Until the picture clears, I have to put it in the toss-up category.

  21. KnightHawk says:

18 – Isn’t that the dipstick that tried to go after the already paid bonus’s, beck would shred him daily if he ran, wise move on his part.

  22. Wes says:

I’d put it between 60 and 70, Sam.

  23. Wes says:

Reportedly Blumenthal won’t run for Governor because he plans to run for Senate in 2012, Knight.

  24. Wes says:

With him and Lieberman splitting the Dem vote, that could put the GOP into a good position to pick up that seat too.

  25. wylie e. coyote - patriotic american citizen says:

    From NRO:

“Enemies of the People [Benjamin Zycher]

It’s official. The Joint Tax Committee informs us that under the terms of the Pelosi health-care bill, “Americans who do not maintain acceptable health insurance coverage and who choose not to pay the bill’s new individual mandate tax (generally 2.5% of income), are subject to numerous civil and criminal penalties, including criminal fines of up to $250,000 and imprisonment of up to five years.”

And so we have, yet again, a perfect illustration of the truism that socialism would work perfectly if only there were no people. Since we do have people, with all their self-interested motives and unwillingness to bend their inherent nature to ideological demands, socialism in practice encounters problems, known as Enemies of the People.

No wonder Pelosi et al. want desperately to jam this legislation through the House before lawmakers go home for the Veterans Day break and encounter Tea Parties more numerous and louder than before. How has American self-government come to this?”

  26. Wes says:

    No Jenna Haze pics, Knight?

  27. KnightHawk says:

23- Guess we’ll see how those plans work out.

  28. Wes says:

    I hope not well, Knight.

  29. Tommy_Boy says:

    Wes,

CT Senate 2010: Is the “Club” inviting in Sam Caligiuri?
    http://thenextright.com/ironman/ct-senate-2010-is-the-club-inviting-in-sam-caligiuri

  30. KnightHawk says:

27 – It’s so hard to find clean ones Wes.

  31. Wes says:

The moment I saw the CFG name on that article, Tommy, I was done. Almost to a man and woman, the CFG backs damn near unelectable candidates who fall to Dems in November. They need to be more judicious in the candidates they pick, or NY-23 will be a template of things to come.

  32. Wes says:

She’s definitely not bad looking, Knight. She reminds me of a bartender in that pic though.

  33. jeffp says:

575.I can see several states flipping back RED in 2010 & 2012.

BHO had been exposed for who he really is…has lost what independent support he had…conservatives will come out in droves and work hard for a candidate that is fiscally conservative and pro life…BHO loses IN, FL, VA, NC, IA, NV, OH, NH, and CO.

I am hearing predictions from all sorts of politicos and radio hosts here in Indiana that BHO has gone to far to the left and any attempt to move back to the middle will not fool those in the middle. My pick for 2012 is Mike Pence.

Charles K. on FOX tonight…Pelosi is driving house dems over a cliff…LOL

  34. Wes says:

    She’s definitely doing that, Jeff.

  35. Polaris says:

    Jeffp,

I disagree about Co (although it may be a battlefield) and definately disagree about NH. The demographic changes there have been unkind to the GOP there.

    -Polaris

  36. Wes says:

There are still more Republicans than Dems in both CO and NH, Polaris, and the Governor of NH is no longer unassialably popular. I’d say the chance of a GOP resurgence there becomes greater as long as Obama is in the White House.

  37. Polaris says:

#37 Um no. The GOP lost that edge just prior to 2008 in CO and NH hasn’t been close since 2000.

I go by self-identified partisanship rather than registration btw.

NM is the same way. NV will prob flip back but I am pessimistic about NH, NM, and CO.

    -Polaris

  38. KnightHawk says:

“Pelosi is driving house dems over a cliff”

If Teddy was still in the senate would they say driving it off a bridge in the senate?

  39. VictrC says:

    Polaris

I think CO will be a battleground. They still have a very western style, frontier independent streak, even with the influx of Californians that have come in. The overreach of this administration will turn off a lot of people there, bringing it closer. I think NM will be a much tougher nut to crack. NV will be the easiest to swing back because of the devastation that has been brought upon the economy there.

  40. Wes says:

    Haha, Knight.

  41. Polaris says:

    Vic,

Agree about NV and NM. Co? We’ll see. Could well be a battlefield, but it no longer leans red the way it used to because of sheer demographic change.

    -Polaris

  42. Wes says:

Wait and see what havoc the economy wreaks on the Dems, Polaris.

  43. Wes says:

Then the GOP needs to make a concerted attempt to appeal to latinos, Polaris. they should be doing that anyway.

  44. Howard Dean says:

What is the unemployment rate in CO and NH?

That is all we need to know.

    Ok, mostly.

  45. Big D (The only Republican/Libertarian koz plant) says:

Well NV, IN, OH, FL, VA, NC and NE(+1) is more than enough to win.

  46. Wes says:

It’s high, Howie, although I’m not sure how high. Here in NC, it’s almost at 11%. No wonder locval Dems are panicking–and many Dems in the State Legislature ahve already decided to resign or retire before facing the coming storm.

  47. KnightHawk says:

I ditto CO being doable but it’s going to be an uphill battle, same with NM.

  48. Wes says:

Well, it looks as if the GOP will sweep Colorado next year. That’s not a good sign for Dems in the Centennial State in the future.

  49. ameister says:

What really irks me is the reason that co, nm
and nevada have changed is because of the influx
dems who have ruined Calfornia ( one example)
but bring their bias to a new state. I have seen
that in Florida my whole life. Maybe when immigration
reform comes up we can block any new ignorants-
I mean immigrants from NY and NJ moving to Florida
    Virginia and North Carolina.

  50. KnightHawk says:

    “What is the unemployment rate”

Not sure it matters as much now as it will the rate come summer of 2012, it’s helpful now in taking the bloom off the rose though and to start the souring process with indies.

  51. Wes says:

Well, Am, look at it this way: With the whole country in freefall, they’ll have no choice but to vote for people other than Dems if they don’t want to be annihilated.

  52. KnightHawk says:

51 – Can I volunteer GA into that provision, or at least cap it to a certain rate? ;)

  53. Wes says:

I think you guys are all better off to follow my lead and set up shop in the Bahamas.

  54. Wes says:

Can someone explain to me why this woman is a lefty? She’s much too hot to be a Marxist lemming:

  55. KnightHawk says:

    Seriously considering something similar.

  56. KnightHawk says:

    56 –
“Wilde was born in New York City on March 10, 1984 as Olivia Jane Cockburn. Her mother, Leslie Cockburn (née Corkhill Redlich), is a 60 Minutes producer and journalist, and her father, Andrew Cockburn, is an Irish journalist, as are her paternal uncles Alexander and Patrick, all of whom are contributors to the political website CounterPunch.org.”

Both her parents were prominent in the Washington social scene, hosting dinner parties.

She has wanted to become an actress since the age of two.[1] For a short time, Olivia’s family had a house in Guilford, Vermont, USA. Wilde attended Georgetown Day School in Washington, D.C., as well as Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, and subsequently moved to Dublin, Ireland, where she attended The Gaiety School of Acting.[1] She initially began working as a casting assistant.

I’d say that pretty much explains it.

  57. Wes says:

Well, guys, it’s time to get ready to watch MNF. I will see you all later.

  58. KnightHawk says:

Losing Independents is BHO demise in several states. The bloom is off the rose alright and the pedals will keep falling to the ground in the next couple years.

  62. Brandon says:

I don’t see Obama losing in 2012. IMHO.

  67. phoenixrisen says:

  68. jason says:

    “I don’t see Obama losing in 2012″

I do. This guy walks and quacks like a one termer. A lot will happen between now and then, the Republicans need someone that can win, but Obama does not look strong for 2012 at the moment. Actually, if he was a Republican, his obituary would already be written.

  69. MD says:

So Obama is going all chips in on the abortion amendment?

I guess he wants all the BD’s and mod Sens in red states to go down.

    Good on ya mate!

  70. MD says:

Anyone have links to all the outrage from the muslim community over Ft. Hood?

  71. sam says:

    74:

    Here are the links.

  72. VictrC says:

Jason…That’s just it, if he were anybody but Obama his obituary would be written. He’s an awful President, if he werent Obama his approval ratings would rival Nixon. He cant lead on the domestic front, he cant lead on the Foreign policy front. His reaction to the Fort Hood shootings and aftermath was in all reality worse than Bush’s reaction to Katrina.

No one else could overcome these things. But it will very very hard to defeat the first African American President who has the ability to raise a billion dollars and has a complicit media. Not impossible, just hard.

  73. MD says:

    Tom Brady,

Thank you veterans for keeping us safe and allowing me to continue to make sex with Gisele. God Bless!

  74. Big D (The only Republican/Libertarian kos plant) says:

MD, nobody has beat him yet, why not go all the way. I fully support him overreaching, it makes it that much easier to find no votes.

  75. MD says:

    Sam,

Are the links invisible? I am sure that you found at least 2 dozen of them.

  76. Big D (The only Republican/Libertarian kos plant) says:

    #75 That’s a thread winner.

  77. sam says:

    #76:

    Don’t see it.

People have to blame somebody for all the problems. There is nobody else.

Money is not everything, media is not everything. Ask Jon Corzine.

When people have to make a decision whether they want to see 10%+ unemployment continue, it concentrates the mind.

  78. jason says:

“But it will very very hard to defeat the first African American President who has the ability to raise a billion dollars and has a complicit media.”

AA won’t be that much of an asset the second time around. Money will, but I have a feeling Obama won’t have the financial advantage he had the first time around either. The media he will have, more partisan than ever, but the MSM is waning, not growing.

  79. MD says:

Thanks for the links Sam! I am glad that the “good muslims” are with us.

  80. sam says:

    MD:

You don’t see them because they are no there.

    Ha ha

  81. MD says:

    Jason,

Why won’t the AA be much of an influence?

  82. Big D (The only Republican/Libertarian kos plant) says:

At this point I think Obama is gone unless something major happens between now and 2012 that is positive for him. I just don’t see where the votes come from for him to get to 270. He has obviously bled voters from 2008 and on top of that, I don’t think he gets anywhere near the turnout he did in 2008.

Obama’s only chance is that the Republican Party is stupid, its the only reason I am not confident he goes down in 2012.

  83. MD says:

    84

    What! What!

I mean it is a “peaceful religion”, right?

  84. sam says:

That being said, Obama will not lose in 2012 if the economy, and most importantly, jobs improve.

    For 2010, Republicans have a simple 3-letter message: J-O-B-S

    As in, where are they?

  85. Big D (The only Republican/Libertarian kos plant) says:

#85 I will take a stab at this, AA will be an influence, but even if Obama gets the turnout in VA that he did in 2008 with AA, there are still a ton of extra votes he has to come up with if you take 2009 as the new baseline.

  86. Tina says:

A shout out to all the HHRs?

  87. MD says:

    Big D,

I was working on a campaign in 94 and had an argument with a colleague regarding Clinton. He claimed it was statistically impossible for Clinton to be reelected.

This was after the 94 elections and Clinton was at 43%. I told him that I thought there was a 50% chance of Clinton winning and not only did he laugh at me but he had other people call my house to laugh at me.

All I am saying is that it is way too early to write him off.

  88. Tina says:

Anyone have links to all the outrage from the muslim community over Ft. Hood?

    Comment by MD — November 9, 2009 @ 9:58 pm

    74:

MD, what about the outrage among the American public.

  89. sam says:

If economy improves, Obama will not lose.

If economy does not improve, Obama will lose.

    Nothing changes that equation.

  90. Tina says:

    2012 is too far off.

2010 is about the economy and jobs. The Rs need to unite among conservative principles – re: economic issues.

  91. Tina says:

Obama’s only chance is that the Republican Party is stupid.

Well, the R party has proven that numerous times.

  92. MD says:

    Future MSNBC Headline:

Teasing drove mentally ill soldier into hands of Al-Qaeda.

    Bank on that.

  93. MD says:

    Tina,

Yea, let’s put someone like Mac out there again and make it easy.

  94. Tina says:

    Teasing (and Bush)

  95. Tina says:

MD, I really do not see any good R candidate out there – among the list of those that are polled regularly.

    Huck, Palin, McAmnesty, and Romneycare.

  96. Big D (The only Republican/Libertarian kos plant) says:

#91 I totally agree. Economy is huge and will decide the playing field as far as Rep candidates and just how many voters Obama bleeds. Obama can most definitely win.

The other thing about Clinton is that he did a 180 and moved from far left to the middle and even to the right, as needed. It’s always possible Obama does this as well or is able to fool people a second time into thinking that he is a moderate, but I don’t see it at this point.

Like Congress I reserve the right to update my remarks and analysis at any time.

  97. Big D (The only Republican/Libertarian kos plant) says:

If Romney or Huck get the nod it will be a huge mess (actually I have another word in mind, but that will probably get me banned). Those two sides hate each other I don’t see either voting for the other.

  98. MD says:

    Big D,

Your right. As Clinton has said himself, after the 94 mids, he governed as an Eisenhower Republican.

Of course I think Ike was not doing the same things with cigars as Bill Boy.

  99. MD says:

    Tina,

I think Palin would be perfect for 16 if Hussein “shout out” Obama is relected.

She does need more seasoning but she has the ingredients.

Huck will never, ever be POTUS. Ever.

Romney should be a CEO somewhere.

If Mac runs again (which is doubtful) and gets the nomination, then I will just stop voting.

    Newt? Gimme a break.

  100. VictrC says:

    MD

You can bet on that happening. They are already laying the groundwork for that. Its amazing that it always is someone else fault. We can not stand to offend those who which care to do us harm. Those that hate us.

  101. Tina says:

Yeah, those all are unelectable at this time.

  102. Big D (The only Republican/Libertarian kos plant) says:

    and that leaves . . . .?

  103. Tina says:

The FBI bungled this one, they stopped investigating him. Why???

  104. MD says:

    Vic,

Radical Islamists could kill a 100,000 of us and those morons would still blame us.

If he was so unhappy, he could have gone for a General discharge. That was never his intention though.

  105. rdelbov says:

More layoffs were announed by electronic Arts and Sprint.

Its painful but we are living in a 10% world for several more years until we can get through the Obama/Pelosi years.

  106. MD says:

    Tina,

Hussein has made it crystal clear to the intel agencies that they are to use kid gloves on muslims.

They should all just resign and tell Obama to perform his own intel.

  107. MD says:

    Rdel,

What do you think of 12%?

  108. MD says:

I think we should sub out all intelligence to Dearborn, Michigan.

  109. Big D (The only Republican/Libertarian kos plant) says:

or they can contract out to Dubai

  110. MD says:

    Big D,

Tbey might actually do a good job. We wouldn’t want that.

  111. Tim V says:

    MD,

12% depends on a lot of things:

    1. do they keep extending unemployment
    2. does Israel attack Iran
    3. more huge bailouts of fannie and freddie
    4. does the housing market ever get humming
    5. currency crisis
6.something big and bad happen that is currently not on the radar

heck we are already at 17% if you count those that have given up

    12% is possible IMHO

but i aint no stinkin economist

and neither is rd by the way

  112. VictrC says:

MD and Tina…agencies now are terrified to make any mistake, release any finding or intel that might implicate a muslim, or islamic group before they are 100% certain because if they are at all mistaken they will be crucified.

  113. Tim V says:

polaris, tina, and gary maxwell and rd too,

what is your opinion on md’s 12% question ???

  114. Big D (The only Republican/Libertarian kos plant) says:

Glad you brought up 17%, it doesn’t matter what the official number is, it matters what people are feeling. Technically the recession was over for Bush I, but people didn’t feel it. If unemployment feels like 20%, but officially it is 10 or 12 or 8, the D’s are going to get slaughtered. It the unofficial number comes in at 10 like the official number, things will go much better for the D’s.

Its the unofficial number we should be looking at because that is what is going to motivate voters more than what the government reports.

  115. tammy says:

john thune is the perfect candidate for 2012. he’s handsome and conservative. he’s like bob mcdonnell.
    thune/jindal 2012 or thune/jeb bush 2012.

    the winning ticket!

  116. Tina says:

    What is the question???

12% chance that ? does not return here?

  117. MD says:

12% unemployment Tina. You know I have been saying since we were in the mid 7’s, that is where we were heading. I still believe it.

  118. MD says:

If you look at Cook, there are 109 D seat at risk. Dr. J provided a great link to some info that Cook compiled.

Maybe Doc still has that link.

  119. Big D (The only Republican/Libertarian kos plant) says:

We bottom at approximately 25% unemployment. I don’t know what that translates to in government fantasy-land numbers.

The Midwest is absolutely wretched for jobs. I’m so glad I got out of there years ago. I feel awful for my family and friends left behind. They are all struggling across a wide variety of industries. It seems like half my facebook friends from there are out of work.

At least computer folk in California are still in high demand. Only reason I still live here, wonder how the market is in TX for my skillset.

  123. Big D (The only Republican/Libertarian kos plant) says:

I have to give Oprah credit, if she interviews someone that wrote a book, she actually reads it.

  124. jeffp says:

MD and Tina sure have some funny punch lines. I know it is early to think of 2012. But, BHO is bleeding INDYS and I do not think they will come back to him.

On the economy…we are building on the Gov’t bubble now. The question is when is that going to pop?
Many are predicting no real growth for a few or several years, it could get real nasty still. I am thinking it could take five-seven years for my house to gain what I lost in value. My Roth about 10 years.

I think that if Palin comes accross as credible in the next couple months in the public eye, she will be a force to recon with. Here facebook notes have been pretty good. I really like Thune and Pence as dark horses though. They are my 1A and 1B choices.

  125. MD says:

I agree on Thune and Pence. What about Sandford?

  126. MD says:

Also Ryan is a sleeper. He still has, by far, the best solution for social security. He won easily in a district that Obama carried.

I just can’t see any of the “established” candidates being the nominee in 12. While I agree with focusing on the economy first, I don’t want to put another RINO out there.

  127. Diogenes says:

Governors usually run and win because they can swing states or solidify them. Senators are usually failures with Barack Obama being the only exception since Kennedy (who had to cheat to win).

Hopefully 2010 gives us a deep bench of governors to pick form.

  128. jeffp says:

A RINO will not get elected and I really do not think Huck or Romneycare will not be viable by then. I look for a younger leader that is fiscally strong and pro life and does not come across as an accountant when he talks. That Virginia Gov race had the perfect guy. Any candidate that the PEOPLE can relate with for smaller Gov’t and can sell the American dream again will cruise to victory.

#130 Ryan is great. So is Pense….

    Personally, I like Tim Pawlenty….

The really bad thing about McCain is he was a Rino who had ZERO clue how the economy worked….his response to the wall street/fannie mae collapse was awful and his ill-advised support for TARP sunk him as it showed he was no differenent then the statists….

If he would have stood with the vast majority of the American people and blocked TARP he would have won….it was his only chance and he bunggled it badly as he had NO CLUE about how free markets worked….

#126 Pimpin’ I am sure that Oprah will be a freedom loving conservatie by the time she is done reading it!

  132. wylie e. coyote - super genius says:

#136 I can’t beleive that I am saying this, but I am watching Dennis Kucinnish on Greta and I am actually agreeing with him on one point. He is ripping apart the Individual Mandates as a huge scam and payoff for the insurance companies….

He goes off the deep end about having single payer or a “robust” government option…..but he is pushing his amendment about allowing states to keep or impose state single payer plans….and actually kind of okay with that too – thats why we have Federalism, if certain states (think MA and ME) want to ruin their HC and bankrupt there states at least the people who want no part of that can move to a “free state”……come to think of it, its kind of lining up that way again lol we have “free states” that are socialist and “serf states” were everyone in the private sector work to support the unions, state government, moochers, and liberal politicians

  133. Kucinich is a sleeper. He does,kt knock the leather of the ball as far as looks are concerned, but he is a true visionary, a renaissance man, a scholar if you will. The only problem I have with Kucinich is he stole my prom date back in high school. He is surprisingly good with the chicks. They like his tough guy machismo and all-American athleticism. The question is, how can we get Kucinich close enough to Michelle Obama to spark a torrid affair?

Got me curious, remember the president and the comments about Caterpillar?

    Published : Monday, 26 Oct 2009, 12:21 PM EDT
PEORIA, Ill. (AP) – Caterpillar Inc., the world’s largest maker of mining and construction equipment, says about 2,500 laid-off employees will be permanently cut from the company and 550 others will be brought back to work by the end of next year. 18,700 employees have been laid off worldwide by caterpillar since late 2008.

Another 2500 down the tubes permanently, and another 550 for at least another year, I seem to recall captain bullsh1t prognosticating such was going to be averted by the magical stimulus. Who wants to bet the 550 later are some how counted as created by the stimulus heading into the next election day?
