TX: Cheney Endorses Hutchison

Rick Perry may be the more conservative candidate in the Texas gubernatorial primary, but former Vice President Dick Cheney is going with Kay Bailey Hutchison, according to KTRK.

U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison was in Houston Tuesday for a big night. She’s collecting the endorsement of former Vice President Dick Cheney in her race for governor of Texas.

The pair arrived at Hobby Airport on Tuesday afternoon. There is some pretty serious political fire power here. A U.S. Senator jets in fresh from Washington to join the most recent vice president of the United States to collect his endorsement.

“Texas has no stronger or more effective advocate than Kay Bailey Hutchison,” said Cheney.

Interesting. Will George W. Bush counteract this by endorsing the man who replaced him as Governor after Bush beat Al Gore for the Presidency in 2000?

  1. Erich says:

I can’t imagine the President making an endorsement here..

  2. Wes says:

I didn’t see this coming. I guess Cheney must be a RINO now.

  3. Brandon says:

    Clearly Wes.

  4. Brandon says:

And I saw it coming. I posted a link a few weeks ago about this.

  5. Wes says:

So, Brandon, how far from slim to none is it for the GOP to ever actually win a Senate seat up there again?

  6. Bunu says:

This is why I said I had a preference towards Perry when forced to choose between those two.

  7. Wes says:

The Republicans haven’t actually won one since Cliff Case was reelected to a fourth term in 1972 although Tom Kean did appoint a Republican to replace Harrison Williams after Williams resigned under scandal in 1982.

  8. MDefl says:

Brandon is right. This is very old news. When Dick talks nat security and terrorism, I am all ears. Anything else is iffy.

Perry wins going away. I guess KBH wants to retire.

  9. Tina says:

Dick Cheney is not a Rino, he made his decision. He just slammed the Obumbler. This is really good.

  10. Brandon says:

#5. Lautenberg dies, Christie appoints himself, he faces Corzine, he wins again.

  11. Tina says:

Shout out to the HHR –
Cheney just slammed/will slam the Obumbler on FNC.

He can not be taken down by the Vice Dummy or the Obumbler.

  12. Wes says:

You think Christie could actually win a Senate general eelction up there?

  13. Brandon says:

    #12. In a non-presidential year against a terrible opponent.

  14. Tina says:

Lets bow to Japan and the Saudi.

  15. Wes says:

He looked as if he were trying to touch his toes, Tina.

  16. Wes says:

    Good point, Brandon.

  17. Tina says:

Bailout should stay in the Senate. She cast the wrong vote and she is a more centrist candidate, going against the headwinds of the economic conservative – 2010.

  18. Tina says:

Maybe he wanted to eat the toe jam.

  19. Tina says:

2010 is the year of the economic conservative.

  20. Wes says:

    Agreed, Tina.

  21. Tina says:

Wes, he could have been passing gas too.

  22. Wes says:

    Haha, Tina!

  23. Tina says:

I will have my sources work on whether the Obumbler wanted to eat the toe jam, or was passng gas.

  24. Wes says:

So what do you think of this acroso/invalid/bunu clown, Tina?

  25. Tina says:

I got to go to the store, hold down the Fort.

I do not think Brandon or you are Rinos by the way..

I have clearly identified my defintion of a conservative and I would innclude you two. ? no.

  26. Tina says:

Well I voted for more republicans this last election than she did. Tina says she sat home this last election.

  30. Phil says:

My wife and I are both big fans of Dick Cheney. I remember him absolutely destroying John Edwards in the 2004 VP debate. For silk pony, it wasn’t pretty.

    We’re still voting for Perry.

  31. Marv says:

    Bunu2,

    Are you actually EPH?

  32. Karl R Rove says:

Cheney is awesome. I am a non-Texan and could not care very much about Perry v. KBH. I don’t think KBH is a RINO though.

    C’mon, people.

  33. Wes says:

You knwo, Phil, you need to become your Cassandra-like self again. It’s been almost a year since I could call you Doom and Gloom Phil.

  34. Phil says:

Palin is coming to Texas to stump for Perry. Those of you who don’t live in Texas can’t imagine how popular she is here in Texas with Republicans who will make up 80% of primary voters.

  35. Wes says:

What do you expect the Perry/Hutchison spread to be, Phil?

  36. ameister says:

#10 and with a LG now to replace christie you
have an outside shot at keeping the governorship
although she is a little inexperienced. Never
happen, Jr kean gets the slot if lousenberg goes
    The deal was already made.

  37. Wes says:

Would Kean, Jr, be able to hold the seat, Am?

  39. Phil says:

Wes, well, like I think I may have told you, what changed for me was poll after poll showing indies turning on Barry. I have been blown away by the numbers with that group. I had lost all faith in the American electorate during 2008. Also, pleasantly surprised at how the masses have bucked Obumbler’s MSM since he was sworn in. I overestimated the MSM’s influence after watching them in action and the results last November.

I now believe we lost because it was the perfect storm – a horrible Republican president, lousy GOP nominee that no one could get the least bit excited about, and an economy that crashed at the absolute worst time. I now agree with Polaris. It was indeed the perfect storm. The MSM isn’t nearly the powerhouse I believed it was.

The electorate is not as ignorant and able to be manipulated as I believed

  40. ameister says:

    37. IMO no he is a lightweight

  41. Wes says:

    Amen, Phil.

  42. ameister says:

37 on the other hand would corzine be able to
hold it if he were appointed? IMO thats a no
    as well.

  43. Wes says:

Then why not appoint the Lt Gov, Am? She’s a woman with an Italian heritage and a law enforcement background. It woudl seem to me she would be formidable in a statewide election.

  44. Phil says:

Wes, I truly see it as at least a 54-46 comfortable win. KBH will do well with Dem crossovers but that’s going to be well short of 10% of the primary vote. Perry will kill her amongst conservatives and I predict will get a majority of indies.

My wife is in the Republican women’s club here in Clear Lake and almost all are for Perry. If the Republican women are not going to vote for Bailout, she’s got real problems.

  45. Wes says:

Thanks for the input, Phil. Time for me to get off now. The baby needs to be put to bed, and my Wife wants me to pay attention to her instead of the computer.

  46. Chekote says:

I think Bush will stay out of the governor’s race.

  47. Phil says:

    Chek

I agree. I’d be shocked if he got involved.

  48. Tina says:

So, where/when did I say I stayed home. Reading comprehension is not your strong pt. is it Acroso.

  49. Bunu says:

    Chekote,

    You might like this interview.

Max Bluementhal interview about his new book Republican Gomorrah: Inside The Movement That Shattered The Party (skip ahead to about minute 6)

Bluementhal talks about the Sadomasochism that is the base of James Dobson movement and also about the famous C-street house that did cover ups for certain senators, governors.

Boy, too bad Cheney could hold a candle to simply brillant and visionary VP like this dude:

“It is a remarkable fact that Al Gore has had a significant influence on public policy relating to science when he is, in fact, utterly uneducated in scientific matters and is of very limited intelligence”

    Earlier today:
“Saving Private Ryan” and “Band of Brothers” would have been great prep for a visit to Normandy. “Tora Tora Tora” is also great prep for a visit to Honolulu. “From Here to Eternity” is good too. It was largely filmed on Schofield Barracks just north of Honolulu and is open to the public.

    Comment by Marv — November 17, 2009 @ 5:34 pm

    Marv,
I totally agree! You should know that I was literally stationed at Schofield Barracks for 3 years (30 years ago). My barracks are shown in the movie (”Eternity”). I was in Hawaii (with my family 2 years ago), so if you have any questions, let me know. I strongly recommend doing some snorkeling, it’s an amazing experience and you can rent snorkeling equipment very cheap. When you go to Pearl Harbor, go very early. Tickets for the boat rides to the Arizona Monument are sold for hours in advance, so if you don’t get there early, you’ll be waiting for hours for your tour.

    http://blog.heritage.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/special_medicaid_expansion_150_fpl_map2.pdf

Per Senator Jim Demint tonight on Fox, “Dirty Harry” Reid is planning a cloture vote for Friday to open debate on CrappyCare – we need to keep the calls, emails, snail mails, and faxes flooding in!

Both Senator DeMint and Senator Gregg think that CrappyCare will likely pass if SOMETHING makes it out of the Senate!

And like it will become something BAD like PelosiCare if it makes it to conference committee with the House “leadership” calling the shots!

We need to ensure a Filibuster is SUSTAINED NOW to KILL THE CRAPPYCARE BILL!!!!

Very interesting. Especially, when he was talking about the belief held by the likes of Dobson that self is inherently sinful and thus must be eradicated through authority. Bluementhal said: “This is what Erich Fromm warned about in 1941 when he wrote his book “Escape from Freedom”. Those who fear personal freedom. Those who can’t handle the pressures of open society and a democratic culture will inevitably form authoritarian structures and will follow authoritarian leaders.”

  54. Chekote says:

The other interesting part is when he talked about Romney and Pawlenty planning to run on the economy in 2012 and that a prominent social conservative they will sabotage them unless the talk about the social issues. Hopefully, he is wrong.

  55. Polaris says:

    Guys,

Actually those of us in Texas have been expecting Cheney to endorse KBH for weeks now. Because of that, it’s really not going to change too many minds. Oh don’t get me wrong, most Texans like and respect Cheney, but not in the way that would be needed to give KBH a real boost. Gov Palin OTOH does draw that sort of support in Texas, and she’s backing Gov Perry.

As for why VP Cheney is doing this, I can only speculate that it’s a quid-pro-quo from her time in the senate.

    -Polaris

  56. Polaris says:

Honestly of late the only thing KBH has done effectively is point out some silly mis-steps that the Perry campaign has had. That’s not nearly enough to win her the nomination on her own hook.

Couple of threads down, was a link to check out stimulus spending in each state. I clicked on my state and found 98 zip codes that got Obomulus money but no jobs were created.

NOT counting those, the strangest numbers listed was for one zip code where $8,916,972 was spent to creat 0.1 jobs(one tenth of one job).

Another zip code listed 89.2 jobs created with the spending of -$77,961. dollars. In other words, the federal govt. apparently RECEIVED money—which CREATED 89.2 jobs.

I triple dog dare anyone to check out your state and find any zip code numnbers that are more bizarre.

#57 – Exactly, and like Brandon said in #4 we covered this territory last week.

#53 – History channel has a great special running two hours all this week from 9 to 11, “WWII – In HD”, contains good amounts of recently uncovered never shown color film.

  59. KnightHawk says:

Romney and Pawlenty have other challenges to overcome anyway.

  60. KnightHawk says:

“The poll indicates that a slight majority, 51 percent, of Republicans would prefer to see the GOP in their area nominate candidates who agree with them on all the major the issues even if they have a poor chance of beating the Democratic candidate. Forty-three percent of Republicans say they would rather have candidates with whom they don’t agree on all the important issues but who can beat the Democrats.” -cnn

  68. Gary Maxwell says:

I concur with the other Texans here. Cheney does not move voters. I am not really a fan of Rick Perry, because he is a former Democrat and I always distrust those types. I worry he does not believe but merely wanted to ride the Republican wave. That does not mean that I will support Kay. And not enough Democrats can possibly crossover, and they have their own contested primary to worry about.

Perry wins this in a walk. And the Democrat will get 39% in the general. Maybe.
