Andrew Cuomo (D) 69%
Rick Lazio (R) 24%

Rick Lazio (R) 44%

Tina…first on the thread and first in our hearts! :)

  3. Tina says:

Thanks, its good that you seem to be arond here more.

  4. KnightHawk says:

Love boat… so exciting and new…

  5. Hellbelly says:

    Tina,

I enjoy the politics (without some of the vitriol when folks disagree).

….especially when Conservatives disagree since, at the end of the day, we tend to agree on the big issues.

  6. Hellbelly says:

    #4….hey, wasn’t Gopher a GOP congressman?

  7. jason says:

Yeah, I can’t agree with Tina that Governor Moonbeam would not be worse than Whitman, an extremely successful businesswoman, merely because she is not a social conservative.

When I talk about snatching defeat from the jaws of victory that is what I mean. California is a blue state, difficult environment for conservatives, why not elect someone who at least knows how to run a mega business instead of an old partisan loony hack like Jerry Brown.

  8. Marv says:

    Folks,

Here in the Sunshine State, Rubio will defeat Meeks in the 2010 general election, if he is the Republican nominee. He will flood the voting places with hispanics and neutralize the Democrats in Miami-Dade country. He will win in central and north Florida and will garner about the same percentage overall as did Jeb Bush in his two successful campaigns for Governor.

  9. KnightHawk says:

#5 It nice when people can see the bigger picture. ;)

  10. Marv says:

Is there a change to the Senate vote schedule to start Obamacare debate?

  11. Marv says:

    KnightHawk,

I’ve improved our seat location for the Navy-HI game. 40 yard line, Navy side, halfway up, aisle seats.

  12. Bunu says:

Rand Paul IN to the senate.
John McCain OUT of the senate

    That would great.

  13. Hellbelly says:

    Marv,

I always thought Jeb Bush would have turned out to be a much stronger president than his brother. Although I feel W. will be regarded by history a heckuva lot kinder than he is now, I always thought Jeb had more intellectual firepower and a well-thought out conservative.

If Lawton Chiles hadn’t scared the living daylights out of the seniors in Florida in the ‘94 election, he would have been the Bush brother viewed as the front runner for ‘00 (by the time he was elected in ‘98 he didn’t have the time to even consider a race in ‘00).

    Any thoughts?

  14. Howard Dean says:

    #6 – LOL

    …..

    But he really was!

  15. jason says:

Rand Paul is a joke. But thanks for the drive-by. Say hi to everyone at loony tunes.

  16. Chekote says:

If we listen to Tina’s electoral strategy the GOP will be reduced to a regional party talking to itself. Nothing wrong with Whitman. She is an accomplished woman and who knows she may be able to turn California around.

  17. Marv says:

    #14 Hellbelly,

You are correct on each of your points. Jeb was the Bush brother who was thought to be the first of them to have run for president. When Jeb faltered in his 1944 run for governor, W took the lead. Jeb is very popular, still, here in FL. His two sons, Jeb Jr. and George P. are campaigning for Rubio. It is still early, however, my money is on Rubio to win the primary. It will be very hard fought, because the nomination is worth having and the winner will be the odds on favorite to beat Meeks by a safe margin.

  18. Chekote says:

    NO MORE BUSHES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. Tina says:

If we listen to some of the plants here, they would do away with primary contests.

  20. GPO says:

    STAY OUT THE BUSHES!!!!!!!

    Jessee Jackson quote

  21. Tina says:

Meeks is a leftist – there is no pretending that he is a moderate, as they did w/ the Obumbler. 2010 is not 2008.

  22. GPO says:

apparently a lot of dems feel Sarah changed the debate on healthcare

    Les Liaisons Dangereuses [Robert Costa]

    From CBS News:

With Sarah Palin in the spotlight as she continues her nationwide media and book tour, the Democratic National Committee is suggesting to its supporters that the former GOP vice presidential candidate could pose a real threat to the Democratic agenda.

In a fundraising e-mail sent out Friday, Organizing for America — the community organizing component of the DNC founded in the wake of Barack Obama’s inauguration — said it is aiming to raise $500,000 in the next week “to help push back against Sarah Palin and her allies.”

“Right now, Sarah Palin is on a highly publicized, nationwide book tour, attacking President Obama and his plan for health reform at every turn,” says the e-mail, signed by OFA Director Mitch Stewart. “It’s dangerous. Remember, this is the person who coined the term ‘Death Panels’ — and opened the flood gates for months of false attacks by special interests and partisan extremists.”

  23. jason says:

“Here in the Sunshine State, Rubio will defeat Meeks in the 2010 general election, if he is the Republican nominee. He will flood the voting places with hispanics and neutralize the Democrats in Miami-Dade country. He will win in central and north Florida and will garner about the same percentage overall as did Jeb Bush in his two successful campaigns for Governor.”

Wishful thinking. Rubio is no Jeb Bush. Rubio is an untested, inexperienced amateur playing the big leagues, and being Cuban Hispanic only gets you so far. Many Florida Hispanics are not Cuban, it’s not a foregone conclusion they will vote for him, in fact many Florida Hispanics resent the influence Cubans have. Rubio will unfairly be demonized as a far right extremist and I don’t know if he has what it takes to prevail.

  24. Tina says:

    No more plants!!!!

  25. Hellbelly says:

    Marv…thanks for that.

    Chekote…typically insightful.

  26. Marv says:

    #19 Chekote,

If Jeb Bush chose to run against Bill Nelson in 2014, the governor would win and become the state’s junior Senator to Rubio.

I will not support an R that gave $$ to Al Gore – or to his Florida Defense fund – 2000 – RE: the R pretenders in the race.

  29. jason says:

“If we listen to some of the plants here, they would do away with primary contests.”

Ok I will take the bait. I think we should have primaries, but I also think at this point its worth taking a look beyond just who is the most conservative candidate and consider the general election.

If I am a plant for saying that, so be it.

  30. Tina says:

Well good, at least you do not see folly in having a primary contest. In this particular case, the race between those 2 is definetly closing. Wait and see what happens.

    Either one could beat Meeks.

  31. Tina says:

7.Yeah, I can’t agree with Tina that Governor Moonbeam would not be worse than Whitman, an extremely successful businesswoman, merely because she is not a social conservative.

Kindly point to where I said that.

  33. Tina says:

Hoeven needs to get in – what is his status?

  34. Charles says:

living in florida, there isn’t a chance in hades Meeks wins. He’s a non-starter.

  35. Marv says:

    #25 jason,

In 2010, Rubio will correctly paint Meeks as just another attractive African-American socialist. Florida voted for one of those once, and is unlikely to be fooled again. Look for the guilt ridden liberal white voter who just wanted to vote for a black person, (i.e., Obama), to stay home this time and be replaced by big numbers of conservatives and hispanics who want their turn (i.e. payback).

  36. Chekote says:

    #20

When did I ever advocate eliminating primaries? Who do you support for GOP governor candidate?

  37. Chekote says:

    #23

They are just trying to get money by appealing to the visceral dislike the Dems have for her. Nothing new. Both parties do it.

  38. Daniel G. says:

It’s the same Poll that had Lincoln only ahead 41-39 over Gilbert Baker.

  39. jason says:

“Kindly point to where I said that”

I thought in the other thread you said you would not vote if the candidates were Moonbeam vs. Rino.

If I misquoted you I apologize.

  40. Tina says:

And rememober one more thing, on the HC debate – Rush just mentioned that 90 percent of the bills go through – the ones that get 60 votes to “begin the debate…”

    Remember that!!!

I do not have a link, but its important to note and further proof that the R party sucks.

  41. Tina says:

You said that I would not vote for a candidate who is not a social con. I never ever said anything like that.

Re-read what I said, and it pertains to what some “Rs” here in Ca did for Al Gore in 2000- Florida.

  42. Hellbelly says:

A tale of two sara’s (a study in where the MSM’s collective heads are at, by Hellbelly):

I was just looking at my Bloomberg terminal and saw these two headlines:

“Sara Ruhl’s Flighty ‘Vibrator Play’ Lives up to its Buzz”

    followed by

“Palin ‘Going Rouge’ May not Presage Comeback as Appeal Remains Grassroots”

I’m afraid the cultural divide in this country is widening.

  43. Tina says:

If that were the case, why I am supporting a Rudy run for Governor or SEnate?

  44. Chekote says:

Who do you support Tina for governor of CA?

  45. jason says:

We need Hoeven and Rudy to run…..desperately.

    Pick up those seats, plus Dodd’s, Specter’s, Bennett’s (Colo.), Reid’s, Lincoln’s, Biden’s….all feasible…

  46. Tina says:

And before you twist what I said on Fl

I say let it be a debate between the two and the better candidate win the R primary.

Both can beat Meeks, who is too liberal for the state. He is the Obumbler redux with a very liberal voting record.

2008 will not be a repeat of 2010.

  47. Tina says:

I have not answered that question yet, will have to see who wins the primary contest, but will sit home if its big government Rino – an R that supported Al Gore 2000.

  48. Darrell says:

I support Tina for Governor of CA.

  49. jason says:

Ïn 2010, Rubio will correctly paint Meeks as just another attractive African-American socialist.”

Sorry, that SHOULD be the story but it won’t be. The story will be that Rubio is a far rightwing racist with extremist ideas and Meeks will be the Obama of Florida.

That’s the real world of politics.

  50. Tina says:

And as I said in the other thread – Moonbeam is a weak candidate, and is very beatable. Nuissance would have scared me.

But remember, the Ds have all the advantages of a very bad economy – an unpopular Rino Governor – the worst governor in the last 30 years. One can make execuses for the legislature, but it seems to me that he had no principles.

  51. jason says:

“I support Tina for Governor of CA.”

Where do I send the check?

  52. Marv says:

    #50 Darrell

My best guess is that Tina is ineligible to run for the governorship of California. I suspect that her canadidacy would violate the Hatch Act.

  53. Jeff G. says:

    Tina,

Unfortunately it’s California. Let’s face it, Schwarzenegger is basically what qualifies as conservative for California on a statewide basis these days. We’re not going to get anything close to ideal.

  54. Phil says:

    Senator Meeks?

    In this environment?

You are kidding yourself. I’ve seen his voting record.

  55. Gary Maxwell says:

    Tina

The worst Governor in 30 years? Does Grey Davis ring a bell? How about Moonbat himself? Lots of terrible governors, with perhaps Duk and of course Ron Reagan being the two exception all the way back past Earl Warren.

  56. Darrell says:

If I were to run for VA_02 next year, to get rid of my blue lap dog…here would be my platform:

If elected, I promise to never once attend a cocktail party in D.C.

If elected, I promise that I would never once give the time of day to anyone in the MSM.

If elected, I promise that every time I pass Democrats in the hallways of Congress, I will sneer at them.

If elected, I promise that I would not listen to any of the GOP leaders who are determined to compromise to achieve consensus.

If elected, I promise to stand on conservative principles and not let my supporters down.

If elected, I promise to maintain an antipathy toward D.C. and big government culture that dominates that place.

    That is my platform.

  57. Marv says:

“Sorry, that SHOULD be the story but it won’t be. The story will be that Rubio is a far rightwing racist with extremist ideas and Meeks will be the Obama of Florida.

That’s the real world of politics.”

That is all probably true and will be what causes the defeat of Meeks. Obama is underwater here in Fl. Besides that, how can a hispanic be effectively typed as being a racist?

  58. wylie e. coyote - patriotic american citizen says:

Yep, the vote on Sat appears to be for the whole bag of marbles. Too bad we will probably get more Americans attending a minor college football game then voicing their opinions are the legislation that will turn us into the “People’s Republik of CrappyIstan”.

In any case, here is another good article that exposes those hypocritics on the left:

    “Who’s Legislating Morality Now?

    Andrew Tallman

And when I say states should be free to make laws concerning adultery, homosexual behavior, contraception, or premarital sex, I am accused again of trying to legislate morality.

Yet when Barack Obama and the Democrats propose making it a crime to not carry health insurance, no one seems to notice that they are very aggressively trying to legislate morality.

In fact, the same people who object to my proposed legislations of morality seem to think it’s a wonderful virtue that he wants to do so many “good” things for the poor people who can’t currently get health insurance. And if that plan entails criminalizing the decision to forego such insurance, well, why wouldn’t we fine people or put them in jail for refusing to repent of their obstinate immorality in obstructing such a virtuous social project?”

  59. jason says:

“but will sit home if its big government Rino – an R that supported Al Gore 2000.”

So my point stands. That position helps Moonbeam since Whitman would need every conservative, moderate and independent vote she could get to beat a Democrat.

Whitman was very successful in the PRIVATE SECTOR. Stands to reason her executive experience in private business would be welcome to the California budget mess.

Joe Lieberman supported Al Gore in 2000 too. He was his VP pick. Yet he supported McCain in 2008. Maybe Whitman can redeem herself.

  69. Tina says:

Explain to me all the tax increases and spending that exceeded Gray Dufus. For 30 years, I meant going back to Moonbeam I.

  70. Darrell says:

Blanche will vote yes. If all else fails, they will pull out the brass knuckles, and tell her that she will be doomed anyway, but if she falls on the sword, she will get a prominent cabinet position in Obama’s white house.

  71. wylie e. coyote - patriotic american citizen says:

#68 Liberman will only filibuster if there is still a government option insurance plan – so what, that is not a key part of the takeover scheme.

They will get much worse entitlements enacted then the government option if any hint of this takeover get thru.

I am doing my calling and faxing to Lincoln’s office today in the faint hope that the fix is not already in…..

But I am afraid it is – another repeat of a staged managed drama like queen nancy’s sat nite massacre – the outcome is not in doubt….

This thing will probably pass before Xmas but without a public option.

I am betting a small chunk of the coyote fortune on Intrade that it will lol

That is probably not real popular under “international” law right now lol

Climate Skeptics See ‘Smoking Gun’ in Researchers’ Leaked E-Mails

    Friday, November 20, 2009

Hackers broke into the servers at a prominent British climate research center and leaked years worth of e-mail messages onto the Web, including one with a mysterious reference to a plan to “hide the decline” in data about temperatures.

The Internet is abuzz about the leaked data from the University of East Anglia’s Climate Research Unit (commonly called Hadley CRU), which has acknowledged the leak of 61MB of confidential data.

Climate change skeptics describe the leaked data as a “smoking gun,” evidence of collusion among climatologists and manipulation of data to support the widely held view that climate change is caused by the actions of mankind. The files were reportedly released on a Russian file-serve by an anonymous poster calling himself “FOIA.”

  83. jason says:

“Besides that, how can a hispanic be effectively typed as being a racist?”

Oh, that’s no problem for the MSN.

Here is the MSM view of Sarah Palin the Democrat.

“From working class beginnings overcame barriers to women, broke the glass ceiling. Fought the old boy network and the oil companies and corruption. Popular mayor for 15 years of the growing city of Wasilla. Popular Governor with 80% approval, independent thinker. Loves nature and the outdoors. Resigned to pursue her lifelong dream of making America a better place. Beautiful family, made courageous and admirable decision to raise Down’s syndrome child.”

Here is the MSM view of Sarah Palin the Republican.

“Trailer trash with a career in politics based on her looks. In bed with the oil companies and corrupt special interests. Mayor of podunk backwater town. Unsuccessful stint as Governor marred by scandals, forced to resigned. Wolf killer and turkey torturer. Made stupid and irrational decision to have a Down’s baby, allegedly her own, rumored to actually belong to her promiscuous daughter.”

Believe me, painting Rubio as a racist will be a piece of cake.

  84. Gary Maxwell says:

    Tina

He did not have enough Republicans in the State House to sustain a veto. The Democrats own the budget overruns. I am not an Arnold fan, and dont think he is much of a Republican. But spending like a drunken idiot, almost always is tracked back to a bunch of Democrats. And in the land of fruits and nuts, that is again the case.

  85. Tina says:

Well GM, it takes a 2/3 majority to get a budget here, so he as well as the marxists do get the blame. Anyway, we just have to disagree on who the worst ca governor is in 30 yeas. Regards.

The Dems under the guise of the crisis with no opposition would have done exactly what the are doing at the Federal level.

The thousands of average Americans turning out to see her when she is not a candidate speaks to her appeal nationwide. She is giving the Coastal Elites fits, and that is a very good thing. Anyuway, here is her latest rifle shot from her Facebook page:

….and these jackals will be able to read the tea leaves. So, while many in the leadership may me on the same page that you describe, it is not a uniform party in that regard.

They are still, to some extent, the party described by Will Rogers almost 80 years ago: “I do belong to any organized party….I’m a Democrat.”

  102. Hellbelly says:

…and for radical HCR to fail I only need two or three of those jackals to vote for their own survival when it comes to cloture.

  103. Hellbelly says:

of course the quote in #108 is “I do NOT belong, etc. etc.”

  104. Darrell says:

surprised Dave doesn’t have a thread yet on that MD_01 poll.

Hoeven needs to get in – what is his status?

    Comment by Tina — November 20, 2009

I think Hoeven is gonna wait how this HCR Bill plays out AND I can assure you if Dorgan votes for the Final Version of the Bill Hoeven will jump into this thing and win it.

  106. Darrell says:

112…we need him to threaten to run right now to pressure Dorgan. Huckabee needs to do the same in Arkansas.

  107. rdelbov says:

Was it discussed that David Hamilton was confirmed as a federal appeals judge on Thursday

59-39 with all democrats plus Richard Lugar voting aye. 39 GOP types voted no.

  108. rdelbov says:

I should mention that Senator Baucus and Byrd did not vote on Thursday.

Baucus’s mom is very ill back in Montana

Byrd was not wheeled in for this vote

  109. Hellbelly says:

Well…its 4:05 here in the east and to (mis)quote Hawkeye Pierce: “I do believe that its about to vodka”

    Fun chatting today.

    Ciao

  110. phoenixrisen says:

I will go on record right now. If John Thune decides to run and wins the GOP nomination in 2012 he’ll win big. That is assuming of course this nation is still called the United States of America in 2012.

The American public is going to HATE, HATE, HATE this new medical system if this bill passes. Back in the 90s there was this big push to have HMOs. Supposed to save money and bring down health care costs. Lots of fervid anticipation. And in practice it was a real bust. Americans came to resent the controls on their physician choices, etc. Even though they stayed in existence, most people chose not use them. They will have this new system even more. Half the public has been hoodwinked about this and the other half are having their opinions ignored by the democrats in congress. This will be a huge failure. And to think we could have had some sensible insurance reform ana a safety net for the truly needy uninsured. Instead we get a disaster.

  115. geauxlsu says:

More dirty tricks from Landrieu. Another ethics complaint against her, even though the watchdog group thinks she is a “republican”. These same charges seem to come up every year with her. Before the last election it was taking donations from the owner of a reading program in Washington, DC schools for which she authored a bill to get funded. Why a senator from Louisiana is asking for funds for DC schools was never understood. These complaints seem to go nowhere though. She cries “partisan political attacks” and continues to get elected by the people in this state for some unknown reason. At least Vitter paid a prostitute, didn’t prostitute himself.

Here is the info from a local website:

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington filed a complaint today with the Federal Election Commission against Sen. Mary Landrieu’s campaign committee, Friends of Mary Landrieu, Inc., allegedly regarding “a $25,300 ‘donation’ to the U.S. Treasury made last year” by the campaign. The citizens group, however, identified Landrieu’s political affiliation as “R-La.,” when she is a well-known Blue Dog Democrat.

I drive past a barn on the way to work which originally had a peace symbol painted on it. Later, “NOW” was added under the peace symbol. Before last year’s election, “BAMA” was added after the peace symbol. Today, I noticed “BAMA” was gone. The barn’s owners must be very disappointed with Obama to go through the trouble of removing his name.

People, STOP it with all the panic! Tomorrow is not a big deal. Read the following summary, by Jay Cost — it’s excellent.
    http://www.realclearpolitics.com/horseraceblog/2009/11/tomorrows_anticlimax.html

Essentially, he summarizes that tomorrow is just about “Opening” the debate. There’s really no harm in doing that, and at least for Democrats, there’s more risk in not voting for it. The key vote will be on whether or not to “Close the debate” — that can be filibustered, and it likely will. Cost points out that it’s significant that so many Democrat moderates are even skittish on tomorrow’s vote. That makes it all the more likely that they’ll be more skittish on the “Close debate” vote. Cost estimates that there are between 54-56 votes for that second vote, “with Bayh, Landrieu, Lieberman, Lincoln, Nelson, and Pryor all at least a little iffy”. He further hypothesizes that Olympia Snowe may be THE key vote. If Obama can swing her to his side (not likely), she would give the above 6 Dems some “bipartisan cover” and HCR will pass with 61 votes. On the other hand, if Olympia stands fast, Obamacare may well lose all 6 of the above!

So folks, no more insulting posts against Snowe! We NEED her now. I, for one, would be glad to kiss her behind if it will help keep her on board.

  124. wylie e. coyote - patriotic american citizen says:

#121 I have been saying that all along. Drop the Government Option and the HC takeover is passed. That was the deal promised to the insurance companies last spring.

The KOS types and the D liberal/socialist caucus will cry a bit but they will fall in line as its still a takeover and they damm well know it.

The R will be left flat footed as Snowe will then vote yes and they have made the Government Option the focus when they should have been aiming at taking out the Individual Mandate all along.

  125. rdelbov says:

Jay Cost agrees with me?? Actually I am sure hundreds of would be experts like myself seem a similar scenerio.

In the next few weeks its control that is crucial. Not control of the floor but control of the amendment process.

So a Lieberman-Lincoln-Coburn amendment to remove the public option would be nice.

A Nelson-Casey-Thune amendment to replace Reid’s language with Stupak

Then various amendments to remove taxes, fines and penalties.

Then it comes down to what the democratic will accept when unemployment tops 10.8%

“Medicaid systems also reject claims more than do private insurers. While Humana, the No. 1-ranked national payer, has a 5.3 percent denial rate, No. 7 Medicare Part B spurns 8.7 percent of claims. Among Medicaid systems, No. 1 Illinois denies 9.1 percent of its claims. Medicaid of California’s refusal rate is 19.5 percent, while No. 12 New York’s is 34.1 percent. Fourteenth-rated Florida denies 38.8 percent of Medicaid claims.

Government reimbursements also trail inflation. In 1997, Medicare paid general surgeons $574 for each complex hemorrhoidectomy. In 2008, that procedure paid $390. This is barely half the $770 needed to equal inflation.

“Due to Medicaid’s and Medicare’s low reimbursement values, high denial rates, and delays to reimbursement by the governmental payers, many physicians’ offices are choosing more and more not to accept patients with these payers,” says Dr. Soumi Eachempati, M.D., associate professor of surgery and public health at Manhattan’s Weill Cornell Medical College. Because of these problems and Medicaid and Medicare’s apparent tendency “to hold payments for no apparent reason other than a shortfall of their funds,” Dr. Eachempati says, “myself and many providers are against increasing government intervention in health care.”

  131. rdelbov says:

    Wylie

I am not too sure. I have suggested over and over again that without the public option Obamacare is basically a scheme to enrich the insurance companies.

Without the public option obamacare has all those horrible mandates plus nasty taxes plus its a scam plan to take medicare benefits from the seniors and disabled folks to give insurance those who do not want it. Without a public option which is a scam that will lead to single payer Obamacare is just lots of pain to provide insurance who many folks who do not want it. Plus the profits goes to HMO’s.

With the way the elections look to be going in 2010 & 2012 this is it for the public option. Do it now or wait to 2021??

Wylie if you throw in Stupak plus no insurance for illegals or even legal immigrants can it pass the house??

I for one is not too sure.

  132. MD says:

    JT,

The triggers would ensure a gov takeover of HC. This plan would limit care and increase costs. The worst of all worlds. Don’t be conned by the bait and switch on an immediate HC option. The Libs will still achieve all of their long-term goals.

  133. wylie e. coyote - patriotic american citizen says:

This is exactly why this egomanical idiot was not elected president:

“Our amendments will be our alternative,” he adds. “We’ll propose a group of reforms to bring down costs, from malpractice reform and enabling people to purchase insurance across state lines to rewards for wellness and fitness and cost-savings for small businesses. Cost is the fundamental schism here. Republicans know that the focus needs to be on bringing down costs. The Democrats, meanwhile, are intent on changing the whole system.”

    http://article.nationalreview.com/print/?q=NzkyZTFjNGZmYzhjNzg4Y2EwMTdiMGZkM2FhNDdmODk=

NO NO NO – we will always lose this debate to D/statist promising free goodies at someone elses expense!

This debate needs be framed in CLEAR TERMS with Conservaitve holding the moral high ground:

“But the problem is that Democrats don’t need the public option to engineer a “federal takeover of our health care system.” All they need is the power to force Americans to purchase insurance.

If the government can force Americans to buy coverage on the threat of fines or even imprisonment–an option that Nancy Pelosi has pointedly refused to rule out–every other government diktat becomes small potatoes by contrast.

Therefore, instead of wonkishly droning about the public option, Republicans should counter Democrats’ grand appeals for “universal coverage for all” with equally grand appeals for “medical freedom for all.” They should stand together on the Capitol steps and issue the health care equivalent of Reagan’s Berlin Wall ultimatum: “Mr. President: Tear up this mandate.”

Republicans have to offer a principled critique of ObamaCare that delineates the sharp moral choices that Americans face. The current health care battle is the domestic policy equivalent of the Cold War. Democrats are on the side of command-and-control mandates that deprive individuals of choice. Republicans should position themselves on the side of market-based solutions that empower–not enchain–patients.”

Md, including abortion funding. Does the church really think the liberals will keep their word even if Stupak stays in the bill?

  135. Jason T. says:

Rdel, this is what the facts are.

    1. Many thought the House Bill would never pass.
    2. Nelson says no Floor Debate two weeks ago

So Far it looks like Reid is 2 for 2

  136. rdelbov says:

    MD

No I do not think removing the public option is a total victory. It will happen. I think the liberal senators to buy some sort of bill will get Reid to pull it.

If the process of pulling the public option takes place on 12-22-2009 it is a triumph.

    Here’s a timeline.

    1. Start debate 11-22-2009. The GOP wants 6 weeks of debate to say Jan 15-2010. This will not happen.

    2. Okay maybe just three weeks of debate. The 1st vote takes place on 12-16-2009 (Thanksgiving is an off week -sorta). With great efforts and long nights plus weekends plus 7 days of voting.

    3. On 12-22-2009 or 12-23-2009 its F-Day. If public option is still in 45 votes to fillbuster. No bill moves forward

    4. On 12-24-2009 Reid decides that over the Christmas break he will rewrite the bill(without a public option) to try to get 60 votes.

Do you guys see the timeline here? The three crucial points are these:

    A. When debate begins and ends

    B. How many amendments will be allowed to voted on and how long this process will take.

    C. Finally at what point will Reid move to a final passage. If the bill has weak abortion restrictions & public option at this point Snowe-Nelson-Lieberman fillbuster

  137. Chekote says:

To me, the most interesting aspect to the health care debate is the Romney silence on the subject. Remember, health care reform was supposed to be his greatest achievement as governor.

  139. Jason T. says:

  140. wylie e. coyote - patriotic american citizen says:

#139 I while I agree with some of your points, particularly that it will enrich insurance companies in the short term. Its still a HC takeover giving the left, eventually as the dependency set in, a virtual lock on elecoral politics.

You see, with the individual mandate system, the Federal government will force you to participate in government run (medicare, schip, va, medicaide) or government dictated/regulare insurance plan – since they pay the bills (thru subbsides for those forced to buy private insurance), they set the regulations, and they give you no legal option but to participate its still NATIONALIZATION.

The health insurance companies may be called “private” to make you fell better but their lord and masters will be the politicians/technocrats. Essentially, they will be quasi-medical welfare agencies since they will have to cover all comers at anytime – and the subsides will be providing most of their funding. Think of them as a “public utility” for HC – ie a government monoploy.

This is a win-win in for the insurance lobby and the leftists – this is why its being pushed so hard – ITS STILL a takover.

Eventually, the demographics in this country (aging) will result in this collapsing into a single payer system in the promised 5-10 years but thats another long post….

  141. Jason T. says:

  144. Jason T. says:

Wylie, the Civil rights act of 1965 was supposed to give the Liberals a Lock too.

The DEMS got wiped in 1966, and Nixon won in 1968

If this passes, Seniors will abandon the Dems

  145. Chekote says:

The most important vote since 1965, and Romney is hiding.

I agree with you. I just think it is funny. We need to send out a search party for him.

  146. wylie e. coyote - patriotic american citizen says:

#145 You cut right to the main issue here:

“The main reason is that they themselves are deeply conflicted about the mandate. On the one hand, every Republican on the Senate Finance Committee voted against it–except, of course, for Maine’s Sen. Olympia Wavering-Heart Snowe. On the other hand, many Republicans, led by their intellectual lights at the conservative Heritage Foundation, among others, have long accepted–no, championed–the notion that unless people are forced to carry insurance, freeloaders who land in emergency rooms will cripple the health care system. Legislate personal responsibility, in other words. It was a Heritage plan for forced coverage that formed the blueprint for the Massachusetts universal care debacle that the then Republican Gov. Mitt Romney enacted.

Thus Republicans have no leg to stand on now that Obama, pulling one of his many switcheroos, has embraced the individual mandate. Heritage folks are trying to pull their own switcheroo by opposing Obama’s mandate, saying what they had originally proposed for Massachusetts was not really a mandate but actually a self-insurance scheme under which an uninsured person would have to post a personal bond before being treated in an emergency room.”

Thats why conservatives need to ensure we stick with first principles:

    Individual Rights
    Personal Freedom
    Limited Government
    Federalism

Once we buy into the government intervention nonsense then we are ceding control to the statists as thats their basic philosophy!

  147. Chekote says:

It is pretty much an open field for Palin if she wants it.

    The baiting keeps on going….

  148. Jason T. says:

Palin or Thune. Huckabee is wierd but he polls well.

  149. wylie e. coyote - patriotic american citizen says:

#153 Lesson learned here – dont cut bad “compromises” with Democrats that allow government intervention….

Add Mr. McCain to this list too…..his collaboration with Feingold was another diseaster unleashed….

  150. Jason T. says:

I think HC will be muted if all the GOP does a block no vote.

This will scare the hell out of DEms if they have no cover, but if Snowe votes for Cloture……

  151. rdelbov says:

    Wylie

I deplore obamacare and I have been against and with the mostest from day one. I stand second to none in oppisition to individual mandates.

My greatest fear is that some sort of nasty bill slides through with just enough folks holding their nose to pass it.

To combat that we need time. 2009 is key. If we push this out to Janauary and the economy continues to weaken-the deficit continues to weaken Obamacare fails.

I might ad that if we kill lots of stuff like mandates in the senate the bill dies.

I still believe that 51 senators do not exist that will vote to put people in jail if they do not get insurance. I do not believe 51 senators will vote to fine people for choosing not to buy insurance.

That’s why the amendment process is so crucial

Sadly I must leave. I will be back

  152. D QUIXOTE says:

If this passes, Seniors will abandon the Dems

    Comment by Jason T.

Will that help getting it repealed? If not, it’ a moot point, as what difference would it make if the GOP becomes the caretaker of a socialist gubnmint.

  153. wylie e. coyote - patriotic american citizen says:

#152 No, I dont think it was seen in those terms at the time too. And almost to a the last legislator, the GOP supported it.

In fact, LBJ said that he knew he was writing off the deep south for the D party for more then a generation – so essentially it was a short term political minus for them. But it certainly is a plus now for them as they essentially dominate the minority vote in the country.

Plus, politics asside, it was the correct and proper thing to do. The one key and essential function of the government is to PROTECT CITIZENS INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS!

CrappyCare is a WHOLE DIFFERENT MONSTER!

CrappyCare is about buying votes and creating dependency – this is the political aspect.

CrappyCare tramples on Individual Rights and Freedoms – this makes it the moral opposite of the civil rights act!

CrappyCare is an economic/budgetary diseaster with all its taxes, regulations, and subsidies.

CrappyCare will be a human diseaster too as it will get millions killed early thru rationing of care and by stiffiling the creation of life saving medical technologies and drugs.

Based on Principle, this needs to be defeated.

  154. Alan says:

    Did you morons hear?

  155. Jason T. says:

Yes, there will be no repealing this or going back as the GOP will never have near the political numbers needed to scale it back….

Just having a few years of caretaker GOP rule will be essentially meaningless…..great if say you are John Bohener who gets a few cool years as Speaker….but does nothing in terms of the future of this country or establishing the fundamentals for Conservative and limited governmance!

Well, just my humble opinion, if the GOP attacks the Individual Mandate then they will bring the whole monster crashing down…

The whole rational for CrappyCare’s taxation, regulation, and subsidies are based on that mandate…

Take the indivudula mandate away, then you have an unfinanced and unenforceable mess….

Plus, you seize the moral high ground from the Democrats which will cause the already abymismal support to drop to catatonic levels!

They are the whinners not Palin.

Palin if she wants will win the nomination in 2012. She will be on the Sunday shows and be visable from here on out…she has plenty of time to build more cred with indys. Yesterday’s Fox poll already shows that approval going up with indys. Not that I will vote for her but she has the biggest following of any R at this point and it will grow. Romney will not have a chance if she runs and Huck if he stays on Fox will not be taken serious. If he got off his but a ran against Lincoln he would have more cred, but he will not.

She is already gaining favorable ratings and the more BHO policies tear apart this country the more people will listen to her with an open mind. I know patientice is not a noted Liberal trait, but they know full well that they can get a government option then full single payer in few years since the quality of care and costs will sprial out of control.

Lets put it this way, do you not think that Mr. “22 White House Visits” Stern of SEIU was not read into the deal making last spring with the HC Insurance lobby?

    She is significantly exceeding expectations

Okay. That’s it. I have had it with delusional talk. Why Sarah will be a distaster for the GOP. Part I:

She constantly makes up stuff to make herself look good. Evidence:

In the book, Palin claims to have helped the fishermen, Alaska Natives and other individuals suing Exxon over spill damages prevail in their legal case. “It took years for Alaska to achieve victory. As governor, I directed our attorney general to write an amicus brief in the case, and, thanks to Alaska’s able attorneys arguing in front of the highest court in the land, in 2008 the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of the people,” she writes in her book. “Finally, Alaskans could recover some of their losses.

But Palin’s claims of victory for the plaintiffs and of playing a role in achieving that victory are highly distorted, said the chief attorney for the approximately 32,000 plaintiffs that sued Exxon over damages from the worst oil-tanker spill in U.S. waters.

“That is the most cockamamie bullshit,” said Dave Oesting of Anchorage, lead plaintiff attorney in the private litigants’ civil case against Exxon and its successor, Exxon Mobil Corp. “She didn’t have a damn thing to do with it, and she didn’t know what it was about.”

Supposedly she is going to talk policy tonight. Let’s see. God knows I am tired of the questions about the Couric interview. Palin said that she was annoyed and that’s why she answered her questions badly. If she is elected POTUS, let’s hope she doesn’t get annoyed at some international summit. Of course, she can always say “My bad” afterwards and everything will be all right.

“4. Obamacare won’t fix it. The NPR team did not come right out and say it, but its reporting points to this conclusion. Alex Blumberg put it this way:

Markets are usually really good at controlling costs. When they work best, products come into existence like cell phones or stockings, they start expensive and then they get cheaper and better. But markets don’t guarantee that everyone can afford the things they need. Government can be good at that, ensuring universal access. But when you’re paying for everybody, it’s hard to control costs.

For [economic historian] Melissa Thomasson, she says that either extreme — a competitive market system where consumers know what price they’re paying and what they’re getting, which would drive the cost of health care down, or a government-run system which would cover everyone — would be better than the accidental mixture that we have today: a really expensive system that doesn’t cover us all.

Obamacare would pour even more cement over this broken system. It’s not a single-payer system that would cover everyone and control costs through price controls and rationing. Nor is it a market-oriented reform that would empower consumers by equalizing the tax treatment of health insurance and reducing the role of government in the market. Instead, it makes health insurance mandatory for everyone. It bends the cost curve up by subsidizing insurance without putting any real cost-control measures in place. And it creates a public option that would weaken the power of insurance companies to bargain with hospitals for better rates.

Democrats have accused conservatives of spreading fear and misinformation about their health-care legislation. They might want to look into this new and most insidious propaganda arm of the conservative movement: NPR.”

Cancer Screenings – Rational Advice or Rationed Care?Share
    Today at 2:10am
It was a breath of fresh air to finally hear the Democrats admit to their health care bill as “a lot of show and tell and razzmatazz,” (see Democrat talking points, in reference to my book). At least now we’re all on the same page when discussing the problems with their monstrous government health care “reform” plan.

Now, tonight, more disconcerting news – the New York Times reports of new guidelines to scale back cervical cancer screenings. The recommendation from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists comes on the heels of another recommendation to limit breast cancer screenings with mammograms. There are many questions unanswered for me, but one which immediately comes to mind is whether costs have anything to do with these recommendations. The current health care debate elicits great concern because of its introduction of socialized medicine in America and the inevitable rationed care. We need to carefully watch this debate as it coincides with Capitol Hill’s debate and determine whether we are witnessing the early stages of that rationed care before the Senate bill is rushed through as well.

Another question is why these women-focused cancers are seemingly receiving substandard attention at a time when proactive health and fitness should be the message. Every woman should encourage rigorous debate to ensure that our collective voices are heard. We are paying attention to Washington’s health care proposals, and we want to hear what helps patients the most.

We need answers: Is early screening not saving lives? Why do doctors’ groups disagree? Did costs play any role in these decisions to change the recommendations on breast and cervical cancer screenings? We need assurances that everything we’ve heard this week about fewer tests for women’s cancers is a result of patient-focused research and providing the best care for the right reasons, and not because of bureaucratic pressure to control costs.

Obviously the first thought that comes to mind when hearing of these new recommendations from bureaucratic panels is “rationed care.” It’s fair – and healthy – to ask if that’s what Washington has in mind with a government-controlled takeover of a health care system.
