OH: Portman Leads Fisher By 2%, Brunner By 7%
Following up on the gubernatorial poll released yesterday, Scott Rasmussen has new numbers for the US Senate race in Ohio out.
US SENATE- OHIO (Quinnipiac)
Rob Portman (R) 38%
Lee Fisher (D) 36%Rob Portman (R) 40%
Jennifer Brunner (D) 33%
This poll was done December 7th among 500 likely voters. Rasmussen’s email today indicated we will also see a new poll for the US Senate race in Illinois at 5pm today.

What’s the problem with Rasmussen?
Can’t he get the 26%/27% to indicate preference?
Fisher will be lucky to match Creigh Deeds’s numbers.
Uno
What will Obama’s Nobel bump be?
LOL!
Portman leads by over 20 points with independents against both opponents.
Where have we seen this pattern before?
Calling Troletta!
Is there enough evidence now hon?
Funny, how they all disappeared.
Remember when Portman didn’t have a “chance” because he was too conservative?
OH is a hold.
We win at least 2 of 3 open GOP seats in Mo, Ohio, and NH. Right now I’d bet we sweep.
I am going with a prediction of a clean sweep Phil. My only concern is NH but they are so anti-tax that I can’t see them electing a Dem Senator while Obama is in office.
Ayotte is being tested in a GOP primary right now in NH. She is getting one years of experience in retail politics. That’s been good for her and I suspect she will be a super senator.
As to the GOP seats in MO-OH-KY-NH-FL my only concern is KY. I think Grayson wins easily but upsets in primaries do happen. The good news for Grayson is that he has 5 months to really connect with the party voters. I think he wins too.
As for NH, we got lucky and have a great candidate in Ayotte. Yeah, Kentucky is only a problem if Paul wins the primary.
Portman leads Indy’s by 20 and up only 2%.
Garbage poll
Does Brunner have to give up here SOS post to run?
Hope so
Obamacare is toast.
12. I hope so Phoenix. As Bill Kristol said, if it goes into 2010 it is dead in a election year.
I have been tough on McConnell. However, I take my hat off to him for this as reported by ABC:
Republicans rejected Reid’s request Thursday morning to fast track several spending bills, clear the floor for health reform votes next week, and take the weekend off.
“Republicans are prepared to provide a platform for the debate as long as it takes,” said Sen. Mitch McConnell, noting that “The majority leader said we would be working every weekend and we took him at his word.”
We expect to be here this weekend and we look forward to it. Republicans believe there is nothing more important we can do than stop this bill and start over… we are eager to continue the debate.”
“I know people have fundraisers because they are running for reelection and people have other important things to do, but there is nothing more important to do than this,” said McConnell.
What being in session means for the reform bill is unclear; the Senate floor debate is largely a side show. There have been 14 amendments in 10 days of debate. The real action on the bill is taking place off the Senate floor as Democrats search within their own caucus for the 60 votes they’ll need to pass the reform bill.
Didn’t Portman have to resign at the CIA because of gambling stuff?
Phil,
The only Senate Race 2010 where I do root for a Democrat to win is Missouri. I’m pissed a Blunt for boxing out Steelman.
Mitch McConnell turned down Reid’s request for the GOP to give up their debate time so staffers and senators could go home for the weekend, they could wrap up debate and get a vote before Christmas, and Reid could go to his fundraiser in New Orleans since he’s up for re-election in Louisiana…I mean Nevada. Reid is seeing the writing on the wall and could very well be trying to save his hide now. Rush speculated that this was the case. Look at Reid’s statements and actions over the last week and you just can see the desperation in them. The “compromise” announcement was classic denial that this battle is lost.
Liberal Bloomberg news Poll has the GOP 42-38 in the generic Ballot.

DG,
Just say no to the Carahans.
#14 – MD, LOL. That is exactly what I was alluding to. McConnell may have put Obamacare on permanent ice today.
Daniel, my friend in Stl said Streelman could not raise money
17. Phoenix, Reid’s slavery remarks were ironic, considering Sheets Byrd is one of his soldiers.
Well Md, we took out Mother Carnahan in 2002.
I just cannot see Mo have tow liberal women as Senators.
McKaskill is done in 2012 though
Jason T,
Blunt is horrible. He was disastrous as Majority Whip under Speaker Hastert. I’d rather have Carnahan in the Senate than Blunt.
We’ll so many Senate Seats in 2010, we can give one Seat to the other aisle.
McKaskill is done in 2012 though

Only if Talent runs.
The only caveat for Ohio is that Portman has a primary opponent willing to spend big bucks.

#28. Damn you! Beat me.
It’s nice to beat you.
#29. The vote was delayed.
MD and others. I, of course, was not privy to Reid’s talk with McConnell. I can only assume Reid was not willing to set the senate schedule for the next several weeks or postpone Healthcare til 2010. McConnell was going to let folks go this weekend with exacting a price. Its this wasy-Harry Baby-if you the schedule you want give me what I want.
I look at the Cspan stuff every once in a while. The House still grinding through spending bills. No sign of an omnibus-debt ceiling bill yet. You can bet Boehner will want a vote on a deficit cutting commission (as do blue dogs) plus a vote for a smaller debt ceiling. This 1.8 trillion raise may give Obama what he wants until 2012?? No way.
So the house is not exactly spending through these bills. Pelosi wants to be done by 12-16-2009 so she can jet to Copenhagen. Kerry is flying commercial so he may need to leave on 12-15-2009(late very late on that day). So after today I think there will be a motion to bring up debt ceiling & omnibus bill. So that’s weekend work. Will the democrats get 60 votes on debt ceiling?? Byrd is just hanging on. if Lieberman or Nelson say they want something this motion to proceed on the budget may take several days. Lincoln does not have to vote “no” or “yes” on healthcare if she stalls the omnibus spending bill. Sometimes you have to watch the man behind the curtains. If the senate is still fighting over budget stuff on 12-17-2009 healthcare is almost certain to be pushed back to after Christmas.
I might add Senator Dorgan has all sorts of ideas on deficit cutting commissions and what not. He is fond of these pointless political distractions. Yet it that delays the Budget bill its the same as delaying the healthcare bill.
Felix – Dont get me wrong, I think McConnell is a good guy overall. But, even if he has a good current strategy to stop CrappyCare on the Senate floor, the D still can manuever around that. He had better be prepared, along with all R and Conservatives to take it up another notch if needed!
Yeah, McCain was a bonehead and should have went “Dole” at the end when it was evident he couldnt win and tried to save Senate seats.
Evidently, his ego and bad advice prevented that….
Rdel,
I am having a little trouble following everything in your post. Are you telling me that HC is dead until after Christmas or has to be postponed into the New Year?
So what democrat is supposed to the world beater in SC?
Based off of Rasmussen’s and PPP’s poll, it seems like Rex is their best candidate.
I hope that Blue Liar Liberal Spratt finally goes down in SC
With a lesser Minority leader, Reid would have been able to get the weekend off Rdel. McConnell saw threw Harry’s Rouse right away.
On Phillip Klein’s NRO Tweet:
“Pelosi says if HC not done by XMAS, then it will be a New Years Present for the American People”
Healthcare is dead
Holy Sh#te Batman!!!!!
CNN polls shows 61% oppose Healthcare Bill
CNN??? Gerhaghty at http://www.nationalreview.com says this could kill HC
Blaring headline from HuffPuff:
PUBLIC OPTION: R.I.P.
A horrible poll for the DEMS at CNN, Reid acting even loonier, and Pelosi pointing towards 2010.
Chivy me timbers
Chekote could be a ploy by DEMS to get our guard down
Reid is going to try and save his own skin in Nv, and let Obamacare die.
Where is this CNN poll on HCR?
Felix,
Your basically making an assumption that Reid is sane.
With all due respect, I think that is a flawed assumption.

Felix — Yup
#41 ROFL!!!!!!!!
thanks, felix
I don’t see the CNN poll in the link.
text from felix story
This CNN Poll Might Kill the Health Care Bill
Rarely have I seen a poll that is so devoid of good news for Democrats as they face big, important, make-or-break votes on health care legislation, as the latest one from CNN.
First, 36 percent support the bill, 61 percent oppose it. Then only 22 percent say it will help them; 46 percent say it will help someone else’s family but not theirs, and 29 percent say it won’t help anyone.
Then 79 percent tell CNN that the deficit would increase under the bill, and 85 percent say they think their taxes would increase.
Any good news for Democrats? Well, 43 percent say they trust the Democrats more on health care, compared to 40 percent for Republicans. But that’s a deep erosion of what was once the Democrats’ signature issue…
More and more, this bill is looking like a career-ender for a lot of Congressional Democrats.
I kept waiting for the last question to reveal something like, “54 percent said that if the bill passes, they will form an angry mob, collect torches and pitchforks, and storm the castle.”
#48 We have swung full circle to irrational exuberance on CrappyCare I see lol
Look, until the skunk Reid caves and announce its dead or starts real bi-partisan talks (ie starts over with R at the table)….then this aint DEAD by a LONG WAYS!
The scam is pretty easy – all the so-called “moderates” are really behind it and just want max political cover which is what Reid is working to give them….
The dropping of the government option was ALWAYS gonna happen for polical reason (saving Red state D and to fool the public into thinking it govt HC) and special interest reasons (ie insurance lobby deal)….
Reid is just trying to see how far he can push the KOS base in how much they can gut the Government Option and not have an all out rebellion of the loony left base – this was a monster of their own making as they didnt anticipate the loons would love this one entitlement so much (the left loon cant grasp how the HC takeover works without it) so now Obama, Reid, Pelosi must put this genie back in the bottle!
His announcement was primarily a trial ballon but also accurate in that their is/always has been 60 D votes for this thing was the right mix of sematics and sales pitch was worked out….
Liberman is the designated “fall guy” for dropping the government option as he is already hated by the KOSers so he is the logical guy to be the last domino to fall as he cant be hurt by the loony left wereas all the establishment D can…..
Once Obama, Reid, etc have a sensing of what the big leftist base will stomach there will be 60 votes like Presto…
Again, this is too big a power grab for the left for them to drop now…..
This aint about health or costs – this is about long term political power for the left so they can socialize this country….
Look at the polls, they are past the point of no return for 10 so the decsion has already been made to push an ideological agenda come whatever….
I really do hope that I am wrong and CrappyCare dies but I dont see it write now….
Again, the ONLY thing that can possibly derail this train is massive public outcry and demonstrations in opposition….
But what was our reaction to the D major move – “nothing to see here, go back to talking about tiger” which was on every major conservative show and column yesterday……
Dangerous to relax at this time IMHO, but what can I do – I am just a dog who blogs and dont run the RNC or have a talk show with 15 million listeners lol
#53 So now they are going to pay attention to bad poll #s lol
CrappyCare is 24 for and 65 against in AR and Lincoln is still a yes vote….
So which statist D is going to be scared off cause of this poll?
#53 Good post and analysis.
