Maybe save Cox for 2012 and a run against Stabenow

President Obama seemingly acknowledged failure even as he made a last-ditch effort Friday to salvage a climate conference in disarray, telling attendees that the world’s will to address climate change “hangs in the balance.”

  4. Gary Maxwell says:

Perhaps the pain of the Democrats alliance with the UAW and all that it wrought, will finally inform the voters of Michigan. John Cherry getting in the low 30s is pretty pitiful for a State with a large black population and lots of union workers. Amazing might be a better term.

  5. Phil says:

Don’t you just love how Barry says everything is a crisis and must be dealt with NOW or WE ARE DOOMED!!!!!!!

  6. Gary Maxwell says:

I bet the Russians are laughing at Obama, again. Jimmy Carter II.

  7. Felix says:

    Agree Gary.

Bill Kristol and the MSM’s favorite Republican, David Brooks, ask Ben Nelson to come out today and say Merry XMAS, let us all go home and listen to the voters and recharge

  8. Howard Dean says:

COPENHAGEN — A visibly angry Barack Obama threw down the gauntlet at China and other developing nations Friday, declaring that the time has come “not to talk but to act” on climate change.

    HAHAHAHA!

    ANGRY!

He knows he is falling apart.

Iran Forces Occupy Iraqi Oil Well, Border Guard Says (Update2)

By Maher Chmaytelli and Kadhim Ajrash

Dec. 18 (Bloomberg) — Iranian forces yesterday entered Iraqi territory at dawn, and occupied well number 4 in the East Maysan field in al-Fakah region, 450 kilometers (280 miles) south of Baghdad, Border Guard General Zaser Nazmi said. The Iranian forces positioned tanks around the well.

The border guard’s comments couldn’t be immediately verified independently.

“They positioned tanks around it and dug trenches,” Nazmi said by phone from Basra. “They are still there, they raised the flag.”

  12. Chekote says:

There are talking about insurance stocks being up 10%-15% based on the HC being passed. All the analysts are talking about the fact that what is left of “reform” is joke. Great stuff! Finally, people from both parties are realizing that the game is rigged. That is why limited government is the ONLY answer.

    44/54

    Lowest approval yet.

    28/42 Strongly approve/strongly disapprove

    Highest strongly disapprove yet.

Wait, this can’t be right….AP assured us his popularity is steady at 56.

  16. Sean says:

The 42% Strongly Disapprove matches his highest, and the 44% Overall Approve matches his lowest… Now if we can only get his strongly disapprove close to 50%, and his overall approve down into the high 30’s, low 40’s, we’ll be in good shape…

  17. Phil says:

RAS is a right wing junk pollster. Just look at how far off he was in the last two presidential elections, uh, er, wait a minute….

    Never mind.

  18. Sean says:

If Obama reaches those approval levels (high 30’s) strongly disapprove near 50… I do believe that either Bohner or Cantor will become Speaker of the House…

    Twas’ the Week Before Christmas

Twas the week before Christmas and all through the Senate
    Reid was forgetting one basic tenet;
“Don’t screw with the voters; they will remember
and disaster will follow come next November!”

But his caucus was led by the nose by this dolt
their socialist plans will soon lead to revolt
by voters fed up with their long list of lies
they’ll turn on party they’ve come to despise

They’ll say “what were we thinkin’ in two thousand and eight?
We were fed some real nonsense and we took the bait”
And they’ll head to the booth with heart’s full of malice
And the Dems will soon drink from this poisonous chalice

“Out Boxer! out Lincoln! out Reid! and out Dodd!
out Wyden! out Specter! We’ve seen through your façade!
We want lower taxes! We want good healthcare!
You sure didn’t listen when we said “Beware!”

And a chastened Republican Party will say
“We’ve made our mistakes; no more will we stray
From Conservative principals that served us so well
and if the media hates us they can all go to hell!”

A dream? Perhaps! But a dream that come true
if we all hold together and don’t turn askew
Right now we’re enduring a terrible fright
But the future is comin’ and the outlook is bright!!!

  35. rdelbov says:

    Obama’s numbers absolutely stink.

Mercy Cherry is not much better. I am a bit surprised at Congressman’s H’s numbers. Blunt is running in MO but basically most other GOP candidates deferred over the summer and Blunt moved into the race while Obama’s numbers were quite strong. Kirk & Castle are in open senate races where there is no strong viable choice.

So in open or competitive senate races in NH, PA, FL, KY, OH, AR and CO no sitting GOP congressmen is running. I could throw in CA or even TX (which is not open) and no GOP congressman made a move to run in all these races.

So I figure the GOP congressman is still down in the dumps from 2006-2008. Of course NH does not have a current GOP congressman. Toomney and Portman are former but plenty of current guys are in both states.

So Michigan’s GOP choice is just a little surprising to me.

  36. BayernFan says:

    33… absolutely man….

The GOP needs to focus on financials. The GOP can also start attackign Obama’s weakness on the foreign stage obliquely. They can do this by attacking Obama’s wanting to throw $100 billion of TAXPAYER MONEY down the drain by giving it to flea bag dictators and the CHINESE for Goshsakes!!. This sticks with the spending and deficit theme of the 2010 campaign, and also hit the Dems over their ignorance and hubris.

The Dems WILL try to sucker the GOP into freaking out over amnesty. The GOP has to refuse to take the bait.

  37. BayernFan says:

Byron York today on the laura show suggested what I suspected a few days ago…. that Nelson is, in fact, a stalking horse for other Dems who do not want the HC bill to pass. He wondered if Nelson was the “designated” dissenter.

$100 billion of TAXPAYER MONEY down the drain by giving it to flea bag dictators and the CHINESE for Goshsakes!!.

You forgot that FIRST we have to borrow the $100 Billion from the Chinese before we can give it back to them with interest.

Do they not understand that the messiah has arrived to save the day?

  40. banjoman says:

Isn’t that 100 Billion a year? not just one time?

  41. BayernFan says:

Finally, I want to reiterate what I think will be seen, down the road, as the big story of hte past 6 months or so.

The near emasculation of Barack Obama as a relevant political figure. He has shown to have very little clout, very little power, and very little to offer his allies. There is, I believe, a realization in our nations capital that a political vacuum has formed centered on the White House.

I also believe that foreign governments and leaders have figured this out a long time ago.

So domestically I think that a large part of hte next year’s political machinations (aside from the obvious campaign) will be the political fallout and infighting that will ensue among the Democrats in particular and the Left at large. A lot of it will be oblivious to teh MSM, but we know better, and we should watch for stuff that shows that there is infighting within the Dem Caucus and consternation among Dem fundraisers for example. Stuff like that.

Also, we also need to be very mindful of the very real dangers to America and Americans that will be occasioned by this political vacuum. Our enemies are being emboldened, and our allies are now starting to show some impatience by the lack of the influence of American power in the world. Some allies will seek to run the show, some will be discouraged and tacitly assist our adversaries, and our enemies may strike against our interests around hte world. Some of our allies (you know who) may decide to take their own security in to their own hands.

Next year will prove to be a very exhilarating, tense, and dangerous time for clear thinking Americans like those who post here.

  42. Gary Maxwell says:

Boy if I were Obama I think I would put Hopenhagen on my list of no fly places. First he gets the stiff arm in the first round of ballots on the Olympics and gets to limp back home in disgrace, then he flys to the ridiculous climate meetings and the two biggest polluters promptly walk out in disgust. Isnt that a major dis and embarrassing as hell?

  44. Hellbelly says:

Take away his stance on issues (and, I assume, most folks on the HHR would not be BO supporters), but the thing I’m really, really surprised about this administration is their complete tin-ear to politics:

Rule number one of any White House – you don’t put the “old man” in a position where there could be a failure. The president doesn’t show up at a conference or treaty-discussion until it is a fait-acompli. This way he can bask in success (to the benefit of his administration) and avoid blame (with its corresponding hit to credibility) if there’s a failure.

To keep coming home empty handed is just stunning to me. These guys ran a great campaign (unfortunately) last year. They have some savvy political operatives (misguided though they are). How did they develop such an unbelievable tin ear? Especially when BO needs all the stature he can muster right now to get his top domestic priortiy (HCR) passed.

    I just don’t get it.

  45. Chekote says:

Frankly, I am surprised that Obama went to Copenhagen. It seems that all his team knows to do is organize settings for speeches. They clearly don’t know how to govern.

  46. Brandon says:

    Copenhagen deserves a solid B+.

  47. Howard Dean says:

Isnt that a major dis and embarrassing as hell?

    Comment by Gary Maxwell — December 18, 2009 @

    Why, yes.

  48. Phil says:

#44 I’ll give you an explanation.

The operatives around Obama believe that every time Obama gives a speech, he gains politically. They believe that because it worked in the campaign. They believe Obama is so articulate, such a great orator, so smooth, that just his words cause the needle to move.

Here’s the problem. That worked during a campaign. There’s a big differnece between campaigning and governing. Obama’s people don’t understand that. People want results from their leaders in power. Flowery speechs move the needle on the campaign trail, NOT when you are a leader who is supposed to be problem solving….and we have so many problems not getting any better that Obama’s WORDS look just like that – WORDS.

The other problem they have trotting out Obama is Obama fatique. This guy is so overexposed its ridiculous. The reaction now is “oh, him again”. His rock star days are long gone.

“As far as the Left is concerned, the individual mandate will make Barack Obama the tax collector for the insurance-industrial complex.

Outside of the income and payroll taxes and Prohibition, the individual mandate might be the most intrusive peacetime measure ever undertaken by the federal government. It will require people to buy a private good or service as a basic condition of living in the U.S. If the Constitution weren’t all but a dead letter on such questions, there’d be a roiling debate over what authority the federal government has for this coercive extravagance.

We’ll have to settle for a right-left pincer movement against it. The Right hates the governmental fiat and thinks — given the regulations and taxes that add to the cost of insurance — the mandate’s a bad deal. As one wag said of the bill, “First, it transforms insurance into a product that few rational people would buy. Second, it forces them to buy it.”

Putting aside its irrational animus for insurance companies, the Left has a point. The insurance industry wouldn’t support the bill absent the individual mandate. In fact, the mandate is all that stands between the companies and a death spiral. By requiring the companies to cover people with pre-existing conditions, the bill creates an incentive for people to drop insurance until they get sick — unless the state forces them to do otherwise.

The individual mandate is what barely holds the bill together, and tellingly, invokes the ire of both sides. The Right and independents already hated the bill. With the Left starting to hate it, too, it’s almost unanimous. A new Wall Street Journal/NBC poll found support at 32 percent. How long before some poll finds it in the 20s?

Practically the only people who think passing the bill in its current form is a good idea are Democratic congressmen. Much better to take Dean’s advice and dump it. The Left and Right can continue to battle it out over what constitutes true reform, with the voters ultimately deciding. In the meantime, everyone will be spared a more perverse version of the status quo, prominently featuring the hated individual mandate.”

That snowstrom predicted for DC could be the miracle from God that saves us from CrappyCare…..course they already probably got SEIU thugs with bats at the doors of the Senate chambers right now and the “Grand Kleagle” Byrd hooked up to his own ICU at his desk to vote Aye on this turd…..just sayin’– this is there once in a lifetime chance to bring in the USSR to the USA lol\

“Two More Bad Ideas [Scott Harrington]

Until now, liberal Democrats’ obsession with a public option has obscured two central features of the House and Senate health-insurance reform bills: the mandate that individuals have health insurance, and the conversion of private health insurers into regulated public utilities.

Requiring people to buy health insurance is a recipe for higher costs as well as centralized control of health care and the insurance industry. Such a mandate allows the federal government to specify the types and amounts of medical services that must be insured and to act as arbiter of what care will be reimbursed.

The bills’ mandated minimum coverage levels include broader benefits and less cost sharing than many people now choose voluntarily. With most services requiring little or no extra payment, buyers would naturally try to get as much care as possible in return for all the money they had to shell out in premiums. This would lead to excessive utilization, a significant contributor to high costs. Prices for medical services would increase until supply expanded to meet increased demand.”

    7:30 a.m. [Rich Lowry]

This is how I understand the Senate state of play. Reid wants to unveil the bill on Saturday morning, around 7:30 a.m. That’s when 30 hours on the Defense appropriations bill expires. Reid will do it only if he is assured his 60 votes—to do otherwise would court legislative suicide. But he’s probably not there yet, or we already would have seen the bill. The chances are that he’s working multiple issues right now, given that Nelson says his concerns go beyond abortion. On Saturday morning, every hour will count. Reid has reverse-engineered this for a Christmas Eve vote. He needs to file for cloture on Saturday to make it. But he knows Republicans are going to demand that his manager’s amendment be read, and this takes time. Probably 8 or 10 hours. Reid needs to introduce the amendment early, so Republicans have no chance to push the reading past midnight, which will delay the filing of cloture until Sunday and push everything back a day and past Christmas Eve. If Reid files cloture on Saturday, then he’ll have a bunch of early-morning sessions like the one today to jam the schedule.

    LOL

  95. rdelbov says:

There are actually three votes-requiring 60 votes of “Yes” that are crucial. at any point the bill can be effectively killed. of course Reid can yank the bill or amendment at anytime

  96. Tina says:

    Agreed, there are 3.

Rdelbov, why can’t the Senate Rs offer up the Colonel Sanders Chicken amendment?>

  97. Chekote says:

Thanks to the falling support among liberals for the HC bill in the Senate, MSNBC has been watchable the last couple of day.

  98. Chekote says:

Why do you want the GOP to offer single payer legislation? Everyone knows that the GOP doesn’t support it. There is such a thing as being too clever by half.

Shout out to the new Euro-Trash leftist Welfare/Nanny State that coming up soon:

“So why the stubborn insistence on passing health reform? Think big. The liberal wing of the party—the Barney Franks, the David Obeys—are focused beyond November 2010, to the long-term political prize. They want a health-care program that inevitably leads to a value-added tax and a permanent welfare state. Big government then becomes fact, and another Ronald Reagan becomes impossible. See Continental Europe.

The entitlement crazes of the 1930s and 1960s also caused a backlash, but liberal Democrats know the programs of those periods survived. They are more than happy to sacrifice a few Blue Dogs, a Blanche Lincoln, a Michael Bennet, if they can expand government so that in the long run it benefits the party of government.

What’s extraordinary is that more Democrats have not wised up to the fact that they are being used as pawns in this larger liberal game. Maybe Mr. Obama will see a bump in the polls if health care passes; maybe not. What is certain is that this vote is becoming one that many in his party will not survive.”

This was never about your “health” or even “cost” for the left – it was about creating a permenant socialist electoral lock!

Shout out to Reeducation camps – I have been reading up on them – you Obama will give you ice cream their if you read the Communist Manifesto from cover to cover – yea, its true! Pretty cool eh?

1730 (From Sam Coates, Chief Political Correspondent) UK diplomatic sources confirmed there had been a major setback after China took huge offence at remarks by President Obama over the need to independently monitor every country carbon emissions.

In his speech President Obama said: “Without any accountability, any agreement would be empty words on a page” – remarks the Chinese interpreted as an attempt to humiliate them, prompting Prime Minister Wen Jiabao to return to his hotel.

President Obama will now hold a second round of talks with Mr Wen in an attempt to patch up the disagreement.

The Obumbler pissed off the Chinese. HAHAHAHAHAHHAHHA

  104. rdelbov says:

Harry Reid as Majority leader controls the floor. He has 1st right of recognition. By trying to use the 60 vote hammer to control the floor he does not use the “unamious consent” tool that we often see in sente use. He is using 60 votes to put his amendment 1st and he is asking to close all debate and to bring the bill to the floor for a vote.Basically he is asking or telling the senate that no more amendments are in order.

So many democrats who feel they want to have an amendment voted on to vote “no” simply because they want their amendment, to modify the toilet paper rules, voted on.

Yup he is dropping his amendment on the senate on saturday. No one will know whats in it except him. He does have the 60 votes -perhaps not 50 votes.

If BO ticked off the Chinese I’d be careful. He might just sign away Taiwan’s sovereignty to make up for it!

  108. rdelbov says:

I just I danced around Tina’s question. Reid’s motion(the second vote needing 60), if accepted by 60 votes, puts all other amendments aside and debate proceeds to the bill. Before the bill is voted on there is another 60 vote requirement to proceed to the vote.

Basically the GOP has no rights in this, for amendments, unless a democrat says “no”

  109. Tina says:

    Thanks rdelbov.

  121. Wylie E. Coyote - Super Genius says:

#119 Yes, if it passes then the rest of the votes are likely formalities unless something really really unexpected (like a riot by the American people) shakes the world…..

I dont see Reid unveiling the Managers Amendment on Sat if he in anyway didnt think he had 60 votes for Monday…..

This would kill CrappyCare and embarrass him to the point of forcing him out of the majority leader’s position….

Unless its just the ultimate hail mary/trial balloon…..

But I would think he would just “leak” key details for reaction first…..although there is nothing really left to tinker with except the abortion language and may some costs….

It has to be the Individual Mandate centered de facto takeover bill….thats the core of the whole thing….take that away and there is no bill….

  122. rdelbov says:

Nelson can shut this process down with a no vote or a no show vote on the manager’s amendment. All a guy has to do is not show, on the democratic side, and its a no go.

Will he still “unveil” his managers amendment with his 60th vote still “out there flapping”?

  130. Felix says:

    Thanks Rdel.

What worries me is that Nelson votes for the Manager’s amendment as a courtesy to Reid, and then putting the train in motion, and then votes no on a majority vote.

The good thing is that we will know by Tommorrow night how Nelson is going to vote.

  131. Wylie E. Coyote - Super Genius says:

#131 True, this is Harry Reid, but he couldnt be this stupid or desperate to me? I know the answer on HHR is YES, but I mean THIS stupid lol

Reid is from Vegas, but this seems like a big gamble to me unless he is reasonably sure of his 60 votes….

  132. Tina says:

Obumbler presser to happen shortly per Al-CNN.

Nelson will vote to get the bill through and hope things are better by 2012. All the b.s. he is putting us through is drama. If Reid unveils the manager’s amendment tomorrow, it means he has the votes.
