Open Thread Monday
Probably not going to be a lot of polls this week unless they were taken before Christmas last week. I am a little under the weather today, so I am stuck home watching a little TV and . Most of the news this morning is about the added security being added to the security protocol to air travel that clearly didn’t work before anyway. That is why this quote I found at Instapundit made me chuckle.
“Once again, airline passengers 1, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) 0. And the response of the TSA? To further punish the passengers, of course.”
Sad, but true…

i work in the airlines got here this morning, was told of new security measures but they won’t even tell us what they are and First!
Its the same substznce as Richard Reid – not easy to detect.
Remember, AQ tries the same thing over and over and over again.
Yes, as I noted earlier that day, the Obumbler administration allowed an entry visa despite the fellah being on the Watdh List.

I posted this on the other thread. He-She-It needs to be fired. This was a phuq up of the highest magnitude.
Happy Year and another day without Obamacare
I bet Obama the Liar is suddenly pro Waterboarding. If some nut blows up Americans, that will cut into his golfing.
Is Obama still on vacation?
Why hasn’t he spoken to the public about this?
I guess his vacation is more important than national security.
Hey Ogabe, Americans were almost BLOWN UP.
Draw your own conclusions.

“It was also a year of Change, especially in Washington, where the tired old hacks of yesteryear finally yielded the reins of power to a group of fresh, young, idealistic, new-idea outsiders such as Nancy Pelosi. As a result Washington, rejecting “business as usual,” finally stopped trying to solve every problem by throwing billions of taxpayer dollars at it and instead started trying to solve every problem by throwing trillions of taxpayer dollars at it.”

Dream on. The monstrous mountain of toxic pustules sprouting from greasy boils metastasizing from malign carbuncles that passed the Senate on Christmas Eve is not the last word in “health” “care” but the first. It ensures that this is all we’ll be talking about, now and forever. ~~~cross the river burn the bridge
RAS comes up with more really stinky obama-Obamacare numbers.
back from a week off. Anything happen while I was gone? Did the senate Dims try to sneak anything through on Christmas Eve?
rdelbov
and yet Dems continue to ram this through. Apparently they expect Obama to sell this during his State of the Union, the signing ceremony and the friendly MSM coverage they will get when this is passed.
The numbers will go up a bit i suspect when the administration and MSM full court press begins in January. A few MSM friendly polls will be thrown in to help.
Pat Caddell says Democrats are committing political suicide with this. Says he’s never seen anything like this in his political lifetime.
PHIl & DW
no nothing got through the senate and house over the holiday.
thankfully everyone is out of town for several weeks.
As to Caddell-Obamacare is such a loser on so many fronts.
1. The major hits on Obamacare come at the expense of our 40 million seniors who active voters. Plus like a bad play everyday more people sign up for Medicare and face future cuts.
2. Can you say “liar” as Obama will be breaking his tax promise on people earning less then 250K if he signs Reidcare.
3. People will start facing higher taxes-higher equipment costs-higher medicine costs-higher insurance costs starting in 2010. Mercy the medicare and cuts kick in 2013. Yet none of the benefits come into effect until 2014. Americans do not like paying for nothing. Does anyone really want to pay for a car before they get to drive it? This is a political loser.
4. Obamacare is almost certain to hurt job creation in 2010 as companies are uncertain about its effect. Uncertainty is a job killer. Have you ever been told your job might be phased out? Talk about hanging onto your money. Obamacare causes uncertainty in the medical field (16% of GNP) plus it rolls into every business with insurance (most of the rest of GNP).
Obamacare is a plan with no immediate benefit that is hugely unpopular and is almost certain to postpone recovery.
What price ideology?
Will he get a second nobel price for that??
Mitch McConnell’s favorability ratings.
Perhaps he is not the secret weapon that Grayson thought him to be.
ps- The HHR spell checker thinks that favorability is spelled wrong.
The difference between Caddell and Dick Morris is that Caddell is rarely wrong in his predictions. You should pay attention when Pat talks, despite being a Democrat, he is clear eyed, thoughtful and has not been wrong lately.
O whoops. I thought it was a Kentucky poll.
nm
Bunu-Daily Kos polls??
You might as well quote McConnell’s rankings form the young Democrats at Yale.
On a more serious note -Obamacare is also just poison for those of us who actually believe in Federalism like the Federalist papers.
Under the Federalism concept every state is treated equally. Every pays the same taxes-not one rate for NY and another for NJ. Yet we always see a little favortism in DC. WV gets the roads (with no potholes) while VA’s roads are horrible. Somehow all the federal highways seems to end up in WV.
Obamacare is a great example of favortism among the states. NB, LA and FL plus other states got sweetheart deals. It will be a debate topic as to why Lincoln of AR got squat for her vote while Landrieu made off with millions for her state. Its a two sided slap on Lincoln as she did not take care of her state plus why condone deals with others. One democratic senator could have said “hey if it ain’t the same for all 57 states then I am against it.” Nope not one democrat had that notion of fairplay. I fully admit to underestimated the intergity of the democrats in the US senate. My fault and my bad for having that thought. It will be a debate point for every incumbent democrat running in 2010-2012
Expect zero from Democrats, and you may still be disappointed. Throw everyone of them out of office.
18 & 22….
I heard Caddell say this on Hannity about a week ago. He said that the Dems are “out of their minds”. There is a public revolt going on the likes and intensity of which he has not seen in his lifetime. He believes that there is a public movement developing to fix what is wring in DC (the dealmaking). He believes the GOP is brain dead but that come Nov. 2010, they will be the “big red default button” which which the voters will STOP what is happening now. After 2010, he thinks that the public will concentrate on fixing things.
He said that the elections in 11.10 will be a “political firestorm” that will make the 1994 elections look like a “gust of wind” in comparions.
I wonder if a third party may develop after the elections, molded after the old Populist Party that will seek to end corruption and insoider deal making and end federal spending. Sarah may be positioning herself to lead such a movement. We shall see.
6 – I hope that means what I hope that means.
Bayern Fan
The GOP is still on probation after the hogwild(pork & corruption) years of 2005-2008. I still that is one reason why in open senate & competive senate seats in 2010 -NH-NY-PA-CT-DE-FL-KY-OH-MO-IL-AR-NV-CO you only see three GOP congressmen running. In the only Gov races it looks only Hoestraka (MI) is the primary & GE election favorite.
I see congressional numbers stink, to an extent, for both parties right now. I look for a ton of shake up outsiders to be elected in 2010. Kirk & Castle are only chance candidates for those states. Blunt is similar to that in MO. His numbers are lagging a bit but I think he will win. Toomney-Portman-Simmons have the advantage of being ex-congressmen. Rubio the outsider has the big mo in FL as does outsiders in NV-KY-CO-AR.

Don’t go trumpeting those Patriots too much, Lisab! They did, you’ll remember, lose the Super Bowl to a vastly inferior Giants team.
Still the ONLY perfect, unsolved team in NFL history: my 1972 Miami Dolphins! Here’s a good comparison of why they were MUCH better than the 2009 Colts. When the Colts played their #2 QB, what happened? They fell apart. But when the ‘72 Dolphins had to play their #2 QB (due to #1 Griese’s injury), what happened? Their #2 QB (Earl Morrall) won the MVP! The ‘72 Dolphins were the league’s top-rated team for both offense and defense, the only time that’s been done. Face it, that team was easily history’s best-ever team!
Bunu
Rand Paul will rise or fall on his own. I am at peace with him as a candidate as he is articulate and by some accounts is not a clone of his dad. As I noted there will be lots of outsiders running this year so Rand might catch fire.
I do think the Paul troops are over polling in KY. There was common in 2008 as Paul’s supporters are very rabid (which is not actually a bad thing in politics).
On the plus side for Grayson he has 4 or so months to pound and attack obamacare-Obama-democrats in general. KY does not a huge GOP turnout for primaries, at least in the past, so he only has to convince 100K voters that he is a viable anti DC -low tax -small government candidate.
I might add that the same holds true for Paul,
Will he get a second nobel price for that??

Well if Grayson’s only hope for winning is that there is some sort of “underpolling” going on, that’s fine with me. That seems desperate.

Now-now. I know Ed Morrall and he was no Curtis Painter. Morrall was perhaps his prime in 1965 while Painter has no prime to speak of.
Yet Ed Morrall lead the 1968 Colts to 13-1 when Johnny U. got hurt and darn near lead them to Super Bowl III.
Ed Morrall not only had that great NFL haircut but had that Brett Farve toughness and grit. He was not arm of throw but he ran a team to win. If a team had a couple of mooses who could run he hand off to them and run a good offense.
Morrall could come back and play right for several NFL teams
Start by replacing Jason Campbell with Washington. The guy has no clue and throws 3 and 5 yard passes, even Earl could do that still today.
#43: Of course Earl Morrall was great — perhaps the greatest backup QB of all-time! I’m just illustrating why those ‘72 Dolphins were a LOT better than these 2009 Colts!
Chinese Man Throws Bicycle at Thieves on Scooter!
It’s another year of rooting for anyone but Dallas, the Iggles and Chargers in the playoffs for me.
Another thing Caddell said was that Obama’s speeches ought to be accompanied by a laugh track.
Now THAT was funny!

Oh I got your point and of course Shula is far greater coach then whoever coaches the Colts right now.
Come to think of it Shula coached Morrall for 10 years or so as a Colt and Dolphin.
How about this for a out of order comment. Kudos to Chargers and to LT for a fine season.
My military retiree pay stayed the same for 2010, no COLA. It’s level is at the the lowest tax bracket, however, the taxes went up for 2010.
I wonder what people who have only one low paying job will say when they see the same reduction in take-home. Luckily, I have other options.
#18 Pat Caddell still thinks that a party called “Democrats” still exsists – newsflash!
They dont!
To be sure, there is a group of committed utopian socialist ideologes who have hijacked that banner (the name Democrat, that is) but they bear no resembelance to the party he once knew….
And yes, the leaders of this new radical bunch have bet the farm on the fact that the complete takeover of the Health Care system and private insurance by the Federal government will yield the long-term lefist electorial lock in the near future along with a overt (as opposed to the de facto) single payer system in the near future!
Read Mark Styen and understand what the Democrats/leftist end game is on the so-called “Health Care” reform because it sure aint about your health, medical care, or the cost of any of it!
Its about raw political power and control by expanding the scope of government and dependency on the same!

Many social security receiptants will see lower monthy checks as they medicare part A-B-C-D premiums have increased while their was no Cola this year.
My dad was a military retiree and got huge Cola increases in 1979-1982 period as inflation soared. One of the few winners under the Carter regime.
Many low income folks got pay raises this year as the minimum wage was increased. Of course unemployment among the least skilled has reached record highes this year. Could there be a relationship between what one is paid and whether one is employed?
An increase in efforts to separate men and women in Iranian institutions has sparked concern that President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has ordered a substantial tightening of state policy on sex segregation since his June reelection.
Since Ahmadinejad was elected, the government has made various moves to further segregate office buildings, hospitals, public parks and primary schools and in the half year since the president was reelected a number of Iranian ministers and religious leaders have called for a more strict adherence to sex segregation in various aspects of public life.

“Curtain Call for the ‘Public Option’ Sideshow
Posted by Michael F. Cannon
Senate Democrats now appear to be jettisoning the idea of creating a new government program to snuff out compete with private insurance companies. It was an audacious proposal from the start, as it made their health care plan even more left-wing than the Clinton plan, which voters soundly rejected for being too statist.
Yet it was always a sideshow that helpfully distracted the Left, the Right, and the mainstream from what shrewd Democrats and their allies at AHIP have really wanted all along: an individual mandate forcing all Americans to purchase health insurance under penalty of law.
As I argue in this Cato study, an individual mandate gives government more (and more immediate) control over Americans’ health care than even the so-called “public option” would. As it has in Massachusetts, an individual mandate will allow government to control what kind of insurance you buy, how much you pay, how insurers pay doctors, where doctors report to work, how doctors practice medicine, and what kind of medical care you get.
The question now is whether the Left, the Right, and the mainstream will recognize the Senate health care bill for what it is: a massive $450 billion bailout for private insurance companies that will drive health insurance premiums and taxes higher while reducing quality, all for the benefit of a small cadre of Democrats with a preternatural need to control other people’s health care.”

Sarkozy cool on relationship with Obama
By Ben Hall in Paris
”
But the French president has since clashed with his US counterpart on a series of issues, raising the question of whether Mr Sarkozy is reverting to the more Gaullist, anti-American posture of his predecessor, Jacques Chirac.
“He has now shifted from a pro-Bush position to an anti-Obama position,” said Jean-Christophe Cambadélis, international affairs spokesman for the opposition Socialists. “Neither France nor the western world have anything to gain from Barack Obama’s failure. It seems as if the president is betting on this failure, which isolates France in Europe.”
——–
It’s a good bet.
Webb has an advantage he didn’t have in 2006. With Obama on the top of the ballot the black percentage of the Va electorate goes from 15 to 19 or 20%. That’s about a 5 pt headstart in 2012 for Webb over 2006 – plus the usual assortment of white hope and change morons that didn’t vote in last year’s governor’s race.
Alen won’t run in a presidential year with dear leader on the ballot.
Oh jesus, sorry guys TOTAL brain fart.
I had Deeds and McD reversed in my mind for some reason.
the Lions also beat the Redskins this year.
Fair enough. How many teams beat the Saints this year? How many at home? How many beat the Saints and then the Skins in back to back home games? How many teams have shut out the Skins this year?
Is that more on point?
I fully expect most liberal house members will be okay with the jettisoning of the public option. Abortion rules plus no insurance for illegals-now that’s where some will draw the line.
I applaud Dennis the K’s principled stand against any bill without a single payer plan. He actually stood up for his principals.
Let’s face facts. Pelosi and her henchmen plus Reid and his crowd will rewrite a bill in deep dark secret. They really do not want a conference. Oh they may call one and then plop the bill down.
We absolute pressure on all the bluedog democrats to pressure them that even without a public option this bill is a tax raising-job killing-deficit busting-medicare cutting-mandating effort to take over 1/6 of our economy. We can’t afford to lose any bluedogs. Then we need to catch a break with either Stupak or abortion foes or illegal immigration advocates or public option advocates. We need six or seven dissentors to vote on principal on this bill.
Its always possible that major changes could be made to make Nelson-Lieberman or someone else mad but you cannot on that. Its always possible that nothing at all could emerge from conference. That’s happened before but its unlikely.
House will rubber stamp whatever Nancy says to rubber stamp, which will be whatever harry needs.
Best Team Ever? A team that didn’t even win the championship? That’s ludicrous. The best team ever was the 85 Bear. It’s not close. And who did they utterly humiliate and make cry like liberals? The Patriot.
a bill worked out behind closed doors and then submitted to a conference for a rubber stamp seems about right.
Democrat plan is to pass the bill and have the improving economy the remainder of the year cancel out the public opinion hit they take on healthcare.
Result (they hope) is to go into November – hold loses to about 20-25 house seats and maybe a couple of senate seats all thanks to the improving economy. They then have their bill AND still maintain control of both houses.
Phil, that democratic hope on November is as delusional as calling the 07 patriot the best team ever. I wonder what Dan Hampton would have done to Brady. Yikes.
Lisa, ‘85 Bears and ‘94 49ers won the same number of games as the ‘07 Patriots–including the Superbowl. Knight, McDonnell has never lost a race.
if the economy bounces back say in the summer Democrats have a shot of keeping losses in the low 20s. Most definitely, but it will hinge on the economy. That’s their lifeline.
I see you’re backsliding into doom and gloom mode, Phil.
“The Pats weren’t even the best team THAT YEAR.”
they were the est team thatyear, they just did not win the last game
the 85 bears played a weak patriot team in the superbowl
Phil
No way. Despite the hype, the growth in the economy so far has been all govt induced and is not sustainable. We are still losing jobs, and we are far from adding jobs.
Plus there is a small problem that the American people, especially Indys, truly believe that the Congress works for them and should listen. The Democrats have spent months ignoring and belittling these voters. MONTHS. It has left a mark, and will not be forgotten in a few short months.
Totally screwed in the words of one Democrat prophet. Blood bath might work too.
Under your criteria, Lisa, the Patriots can’t be the best team of all time since two othe teams equaled their number of victories and took home Superbowl rings. I’d say they’re the fourth best team ever. By the way, the ‘72 Dolphins went 17-0.
Wes
Not at all. I’m saying that’s their only salvation. If you were them, what else would you have to fall back on?
They are counting on an improved economy (where else does it have to go but up?) and their friends in the MSM to hammer that improvement day in and day out. Won’t totally save them at all. It could help to give them a floor however – enough to prevent a free fall.
Gotta go watch my aggies try and make a game of it with Georgia. We’re 7 point underdogs I think.
Dems are seriously screwed next year, Gary.
The 85 Bear flattened all 5 NFC teams that made the playoffs that year.
They have 3 hall of famers and Jimbo Covert and Richard Dent will get in at some point. The only argument against the Bear is they didn’t win more Lombardis but their qb got mangled. For one season, they were the most dominant ever. And when the post season came, they dialed it up another notch and destroyed their opponents in all three games.
As for the 72 Dolphin, they weren’t even the best team in their decade, and Griese was a mediocre quarterback at best. The fact that he’s in the hall of fame makes a mockery of the place.
Alen won’t run in a presidential year with dear leader on the ballot.

And the Economy will continue to tank until the people with cash are convinced that Skippy has been rendered powerless and unable to harm them.
I will give the Patriots credit for one thing, Lisa:They participated in the biggest upset in Superbowl history.
I know its amazing that Obama will be out boosting about 9.6% unemployment.
I want the +40 house seats but not never house seat is created equal.
A shift of the two TN seats might not mean a lot on bills like Cap & Trade or HC. We can win 30 blue dog seats and only move the house votes by 3 to 5 net votes.
We need liberal seats in NH, NY, PA, FL, OH, MI and what not to change to the GOP.
Phil, you are a doomer.
“They participated in the biggest upset in Superbowl history”
that was the 2001 patriots
“How much better could they have been than, oh say, UNDEFEATED including the Super Bowl?”
well they could have played during the modern era when teams play more games of course — like the best team ever the patriots
Lisab, that crap about Kirk being Gay is a farce.
This is why the Illinois GOP cannot win Statewide Races.
We have too many Ron Paul/Al Salvi idiots trying to sabotage the party.
Yes Howard, they should have hopped in their time machine to the year 2007.
plus, of all the teams you have mentioned
only one is from new england … the best place ever
In 2006, the economy was terrific Phil. The GOP got wiped out.
The HC arrogance by the Democrats will be etched in Indy Voter minds even if the DOW hit 15k.
Unemployment will not dip below 9% in 2010 due to the crippling taxes of Obama
Taxachusetts????
The Dolphins won two Superbowls back to back and had an undefeated season. I’d call that dominant. The ‘94 49ers lost one game by three and annihilated the Chargers in the Superbowl. Better than the ‘85 Bears, whom Miami routed in a game in the ‘85 season.
Breaking (drudge)… family friend at Obama HI house injured from surfboard.
Did michelle hit someone over the head with a surfboard in a bat of rage? Beats bird shot I guess. lol
No, Lisa. That would be the 2007 Patriots–who lost to a team they were supposed to crush. Their 18-1 record is meaningless since two other teams have equaled it and have Superbowl rings to show for it.
I’m glad I’m not alone in hating Al Salvi, Jason.
I put the question of which NFL of all time in that unknowable catagory. Here are some unknows:
1. Best John Wayne movie
2. Best WWII movie
3. Best NFL ever
4. Who would received most of the Perot vote in 1992 if he had not run?
There are just some questions that can never be settled.
So did Michelle catch Barack cheating on her, Knight?
The 72 Dolphin team squeaked by their opponent in all 3 playoff games. They couldn’t throw the football, not that they had to in that era.
They are not one of the 5 best single season teams of all time let alone the best. You’ll find very few experts who rank them ahead of the 85 Bear, who would have cut off their body parts and fed them to the dolphin.
And you can’t beat this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJNC3dgreaU
141 – Oh is valerie jarrett on the island with them? lol
what else is PPP sitting on?
Hello people.
There was a political or HC comment earlier in this thread. Someone wondered around this question without exactly asking it. Why doesn’t Pelosi just pass the senate bill through the house? That’s a good question and I can only give the top ten reasons.
1. The House actually think it has a role in deciding how 1/6 of the nations economy is changed. So passing the senate bill with no changes disproves that point.
2. There are lots of disgruntled democrats (so what’s new about that) and just passing the senate means Pelosi does not care about that.
3. A conference or more HC discussions among house leaders & members is a great reason for fundraising in DC. Let’s do breakfast, lunch or dinner at $250 a ticket for my re-election effort. A quick vote means less time for fundraising.
4. There are no house goodies in the senate bill. We need to pin down the locations of these Community health centers & hospitals plus some of these new boards need to be meeting in Montgomery & Prince Gerorge county and not in DC or VA.
5. There are some legitmate different in funding Obamacare. The house hits the +500K a year folks hard while the senate spreads the pain down to 100K per year. We need to soak some really rich folks not those 100K a year policemen.
Finally the Caddy healhplans are an assault on America’s super rich and Unionized workers. Taxing the executives is okay but the house deplores this tax on union people. This will be a major issue for talks.
The ‘85 Bears lost by double digits to the ‘85 Dolphins. The ‘94 49ers lost by a field goal in the closing seconds of one game and never looked back before crushing San Diego in the Sugerbowl. Greatest team under that criterion.
Hi corey I believe PPP is also sitting on this:
Tel Aviv – Obama favorable – 2.3% (-2%)
The ‘85 Bears let the Dolphins win that game.
Had they tried, they would have crushed every team they played 321-0.
no, the 2007 patriots, while the best football team ever, was beaten by a decent quarterback on that given sunday
actually brady is always beatable IF you knock him down
early in the game teams should always knock brady on his butt and take the penalties …
he is one of the all time great passers, but grogan was much much tougher
“oooooooooh grogan just got his neck broken … he is back in the huddle”
Comment by addisonst — December 28, 2009 @ 5:32 pm
Nobody ever talks about chasing the 85 Bears or 07 Pats.
Everyone talks about the 72 Phins record.
Hmmmmm
Didn’t they pull Grogan in Super Bowl XX?
It should also be noted that the 94 Niners dominated in a year in which teams often wore throwback uniforms.
Many teams were so ashamed by those uniforms that their play suffered and the Niners took advantage.
“taxachusetts????”
actually that is a misnomer
the taxes in massachusetts are very fair. if you are poor you do not pay taxes on income, food, or clothing … or housing for that matter.
illinois on the other hand is out of control. 8 to 10% sales tax on everything including food and clothes!!!!
#139 redelbov
1. “The Horse Soldiers”
2. HBO Mini-Series “Band of Brothers” (”Tora Tora Tora” if a mini-series is ineligible.)
3. 1972 Miami Dolphins
4. George H. W. Bush
“Didn’t they pull Grogan in Super Bowl XX”
no, they pulled eason, another pretty-boy qb
It’s worse in Cook County lisab, compared to where you are Downstate.
Obamacare is going to be a debacle no matter how we look at it, Rdel.
“Nobody ever talks about chasing the 85 Bears or 07 Pats.
Everyone talks about the 72 Phins record.”
because it is the easiest to achieve — why set yourself up for failure by chasing 19 wins in a season?
If the Colts do not make the SuperBowl, Caldwell wil never hear the end of it.
1. Best John Wayne movie
the quiet man — hands down
2. Best WWII movie — world at war the documentary or schindler’s list
3. Best NFL ever — patriots obviously, no one else is close
4. Who would received most of the Perot vote in 1992 if he had not run?
bush
Wes, lisab, et. al.,
Weigh in on #139.
“It’s worse in Cook County lisab, compared to where you are Downstate.”
i know!!!
iirc 10.25% sales tax in chicago
lisab,
Your answers to #1 and #2 demonstrate the fundamental difference between guys and gals, when you compare them to my choices.
The only John Wayne movie I ever really saw was True Grit, many years ago.
Best WWII movie? Hard to say. I guess only Saving Private Ryan really sticks out.
The Perot vote would have likely benefitted Bush in enough states to win the EC, though maybe not necessarily the popular vote.
Um, no, Corey. Good try though.
actually this is one of the most compelling documentaries about Auschwitz
http://www.youtube.com/user/bonkers704#p/u/61/jowmbGGOhYk
i wish it was required viewing in all public schools
Many teams were so ashamed by those uniforms that their play suffered and the Niners took advantage.
Comment by Corey — December 28, 2009 @ 5:47
lol
Marv,
the band of brothers was good … one of the better fictional representations of a somewhat true story
but World at War and Kitty: A Return to Auschwitz
are both amazing documentaries
Most likely Bush would have gotten most of the Perot vote–but it wouldn’t have been enough to win.
lisab
I am a major fan of WW II documentaries, particularly “World at War.” If you had to select a WW II movie depicting US forces in combat, which would it be?
the thing about perot is that he only really flipped red states
the blue states are so blue they are hard to flip
Anyone else ever watch the Ken Burns documentary series, “The War” on WWII?
Lisa, chicago will be back to 9.75% July 1rst.
The Cook County Board overrode a Stroger Veto, and reduced the tax .05% after people stopped Shopping in Cook county on large ticket items
The Clinton vs. Bush dynamics without Perot in the debates would have been a lot different and could have influenced things. Bush 41 was pretty much double teamed throughout the entire debates.
As it was, it looked the weekend before the election that the soft Clinton vote might wind up going towards Perot, and that would have caused Bush 41 to win (the tracking poll showed a dead heat the Saturday before the election) but then Lawrence Walsh indicted Caspar Weinberger on Iran-Contra, in what many believe was an attempt to influence the election, and that was that.
As for the others: don’t know, Dirty Dozen, ‘94 and ‘89 49ers.
173. Too PC Corey, they spent more time on how the White GI’s were racist, instead the of the actual war.
Wes, Steve Young is a great guy
Oh yeah, we did finally override that twerp’s veto.
#173 Corey,
I saw the Ken Burns documentary series on WW II and was diasppointed in it.
Perot was similat to Daggett in NJ. They are the hot new thing who always burn out on election day.
I watched the entire series… with several months in between viewings, and yes, I definitely did think a lot of it was “PC”, but all in all, I found it pretty moving.
Marv,
perhaps band of brothers
honorable mention
to hell and back
big red one
midway
guadacanal diary
Except Perot getting 19% on Election Day probably surpassed his expectations a bit.
Wes,
Cm’on, Wes. You can do better the “The Dirty Dozen.” Try again. (I liked that movie, too. Just not as a favorite.)
#183 lisab,
Now, that’s more like it!!!!!
Battleground
Burma
Where the Eagles Dare
Jason,
wow, 9.75 %
we are going up to something like 8%, i don’t really pay attention to illinois politics
it is not my home
read the book guadacanal diary … much better than the movie
Battle Cry is a fine one too.
Clinton outcampaigned Bush. As for the now solidly Dem states, they had mostly gone for Bush in ‘88. Perot basically gave Bush cover in his loss. Clinton would have won anyway. Even Bill Kristol has said so.
no way would clinton have won
basically many people looked on perot as an alternative to bush and transferred their loyalty to perot … saying many bad things about bush
when perot dropped out those people would have had to change their minds about bush, which people usually will not do
clinton benefited
The Big Red One then, Marv.
Wes,
Good one.
The best way to flip blue states is to burn them to the ground with fire and rebuild them.
bush 1, and 2, especially 2
despite foolishly invading iraq,
actually were fairly honorable men.
this is clearly shown by the almost insane partisanship by obama.
situation:
you are alone on the street late at night when suddenly terrorists charge you with knives and guns
you can have one of the following to protect you:
bush 1
bush 2
clinton
hillary
michelle obama
barack obama
edwards
palin
cheney
and
kerry
who would you choose?
Lisa, you know as much about politics as about football–next to nothing. Every political analyst from Michael Barone on has said Clinton would have won, and the race’s fundamentals support what they say. Even Bush knew he had no chance, Perot or no Perot. Just ask people who worked for him as I have.
I think without Perot Bush had won
bareley but won
clearly both obamas are useless
and you would end up protecting edwards
hillary and bill would run if they could … they would probably trip you first
all the rest, including cheney and kerry, would probably be be very helpful if armed
lisab I would choose Hillary and you??
wes,
you just have a insane hatred of bush
however, you are blind
Everyone,
Please leave a comment at PPP(D)’s blog asking for Michigan to be polled. Obama hack Richard Wolfee tried to push the Obama narrative in August that private polling still showed him strong in that state and people bought that crap hook line and sinker.
Kerry would just be focused on obtaining his 4th Purple Heart and asking where the video camera was.
Tommy boy where to find??
kerry actually would say,
“do you know who i am?”
and shoot them
he is vain, but no coward
Thanks, Marv. For some reason I’ve always liked Mark Hamill’s non-Star Wars work even though I generally hated him as Luke Skywalker.
So have the bitter old dolphins, i.e., Mercury (now slowsilver) Morris, et al, cracked open their bottle of champagne to commemorate their “feat”, or the misfortune of others.
That is about as much sportsmanship as the Broncos who applaud in—com—plete.
Benny,
Go leave a comment here for Michigan. I want to see also if Hoekstra is getting a bounce from going after Obama. He is trailing Cox in most of the primary polling that I’ve seen.
http://publicpolicypolling.blogspot.com/2009/12/first-poll-of-2010.html
Wrong Bush, Lisa. I hate George W Bush, not George H W Bush. How can I have a political debate with you when you’re not even smart enough to know what man you’re talking about? By the way, I’ve talked to former Bush aides who told me they had no chance either way. Whom have you talked to?
Can you give names of whom you spoke to?
I wonder if the MI economic situation might make Stabenow vulnerable in 2012.
Bill Krisol for one, Corey.
Man made global warming is real – Even Al Gore said so.
Kristol was Quayle’s Chief of Staff at the time. He wasn’t directly a Bush aide, but I guess that was his opinion of the 1992 political situation.
Any other names?
Kristol, I mean.
Corey try this exercise go by the state by state returns give bush sr. 2/3rds of the perot vote and Willy 1/3rd, see which states it flips then count up the ev’s for those states in 92, in the end you will see slick willy still wins. As for if Perot was never in the race at all we honestly will never know.
Kristol is very good, but he blew the HC debate in the Senate.
He said it would die there
“Wrong Bush, Lisa. I hate George W Bush, not George H W Bush”
no … you have blind hatred for all bushes
and try to shout down all who disagree with you
Breaking: Obama back on the golf course. lol
Tommy is Cox even running in Mich?
I am quite fond of the entire Bush Family.
That’s the only one I can think of off the top of my head, Corey. Even so, why would he tell me they knew they were doomed regardless of Perot if they weren’t.
Maybe because they want to make themselves look better or blameless in retrospect?
It’s one of those “we will never know” arguments, but if they were anyone who really mattered in that campaign, you probably would remember their name.
Jason,
Yes.
http://www.mikecox2010.com/
198 – I’d take Palin.
I probably like Bouchard best in Michigan, but I don’t live there. I have confidence in a pickup by whomever winds up as the GOP nominee.
Goodnight all.
Tommy good news. Attorney Generalsa lways make good candidates.
Hoekstra should run against Stabenow.
Wrong, Lisa. I’ve never expressed antipathy for any Bush but GWB, Lisa. It helps to know what you’re talking about before typing.
Soooo
Two of the 4 plotters identified were released from Gitmo in Nov 2007?
Ruh Roh. When you screw up you screw up. I don’t care if you’re a Democratic or a Republican Administration. Unacceptable.
I guess Chenney won’t be giving any interviews anytime soon.
Wes-why are such a tool? In your real life, do you act just a intellecually pretentious as you do here? If so, that may be why your wife decided to bolt. Just sayin. Now, hit me with a really good shot across the bow. Kick me in the jimmy.
Wes,
If Stabenow is in trouble in 2012, we’ll sweep everything.
Cox is running for Governor this year. I hope Rogers challenges Stabenow in 2012.
I don’t blame Chenney really. That was a bit of a cheap shot. I can’t imagine he’d be one in the Bush administration arguing to release anyone early. Hopefully, Obama will use this happening as a teachable moment.
Yeah right. That’ll happen……
Thanks for the low blow, Al. If you must know, I kicked my wife out and filed for divorce. Thanks for making light of that though. I can’t tell you how grateful I am for it.
Keep dreaming Phil.
Obama is the worst President imaginable at dealing with terrorism.
This poll dead zone period is just horrible. Please tell me that Fox News/Opinion Dynamics has something good in store for us this week.
Don’t put me on a guilt trip unless I get a free continental breakfast with it. Your attitude reminds me of another condescending fellow who resides at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. You know a lot about what you know about-good for you. Just do yourself a favor, before you hit “send”, don’t check for spelling errors in your post, check more fore breach of common courtesy” errors and “lack of finesse” type inflection. Other than that, I think you’re an asset.
I did not even answer my own questions. I will not bother with the Perot one as its so convoluted.
1. Best John Wayne Movie-Mercy-can I about 50 of them then decide which one I would again right away. Personally I love the “Searchers” as the one to watch every year or so. I loved the Quiet man as well and the calvary flicks. Red River-man the Duke was so good in that. Monty Clift was great in that flick. Walter Brennan-wow. Is it on TV tonight?
2. Best WWII movies. Guys I have a real preference for the movies that were either made during the war or right afterwards. So you go from Casablanca to about Battleground(1949). How about “They were expendable” or “The Sands of Iwo Jima”. WWII and the Duke as well. I loved Tracy and Van Johnson in “thirty seconds over Tokyo” plus more Duke in “Back to Bataan”.
There are several WWII of note that I really liked from the 1950’s. Billy Wilder’s “Stalag 17″ with Bill Holden (Ronald Reagan’s best man when he married Nancy”. Heck just watch any Billy Wilder movie or Caapra. Plus “Attack” starring Eddie Albert and Jack Palance. Albert played the cowardly Captain who avoided combat. Great flick and in real life Albert received the Bronze Star during combat in the pacific. Every time I see that flick Albert is so good as a coward and yet he got a bronze star.
As a side note if one does not count Audie Murphy who was the most decorated soldier in WWII (and a decent actor) the most decorated actor of WWII might have been Charles Durning. He was awarded the Silver Star and three purple hearts. These were not John Kerry like purple hearts as Durning was hit by sharpnel in 9 places when he received his second purple heart. After several surgeries and a month in the hospital he was returned to his unit in time for action during the battle of the budge. He received his final purple heart there.
As far as Stabenow goes, Tommy, she’s never run in a bad year for Dems. Rogers could beat her. You’re right though. Her vulnerability could be a gauge for overall GOP electoral prospects.
Alright folks, I have to leave to take my grandma to her spinning class. Talk about the worst place in the world to pick up chicks. Cheers!
I didn’t give you a guilt trip, Al, but you brought something up you know nothing about that’s none of your goddamn business, so as Tina would say, go phuq yourself.
“Obama is the worst President imaginable” – There was no need to go further.
GEORGE W. BUSH IS A GREAT MAN!
Best US president since Reagan. He kept us safe…the most important thing of the last 9 years…more important than the economy…healthcare…education…and anything else because without security you can’t have any other benefits in society.
If Reps in the Senate and House behaved like Bush then maybe they would not have gotten as bad as a butt whooping in 2006 and 2008. Perhaps we can thank all those Reps who were corrupt, behaved miserably, and created scandals for the current healthcare passage.

Bush was a nightmare of a president

Ouch
Benny I agree politically. The only way a loser like Obama wins is because of Bush’s second term.
Personally I believe Bush was a good man.
Hawk, why bother. The MSM scum will protect Obama like they did Clinton.
Obama should have left Hawaii on Xmas day to confront this terrorism.
lol
Criticism from the left means absolutely nothing. Those lefties howling will be right with Dems in 2010 and Obama in 2012….and Obama knows it.
249
Benny:
Stop with KOS talking points! Name the nightmares?
People like yopu supported GWB until the Iraq war turned out to be more difficult than everyone expected. Were you one of the 70% of Americans that supported the war in the beginning until it got tough and then abandoned it?
No! People like you are responsible for Obama because you tolerated Reps scandals, corruption, and misbehavior that allowed them to lose big time in 2006 and 2008…which they deserved in my opinion. Look in the mirror for blame and stop with the BDS. I left the Rep party in 2005 because of the party scandals and corruption…people like me left your party because of your blind intolerance for wrongdoing. That had nothing to do with Bush. Most people are against Reps because they found them to be corrupt and scandalous. How is that Bush’s fault?
248 – Say the Hillary supporter.
You guys really should read 250 – It’s a hilarious rant from a lefty pissed at Obama.
I have been on HHR for over 5 years and I never saw such a group of people so pathetic to blame GWB for all ills that ail the Reps. How are you guys different than the Daily KOS folks who blame him for everything?
Again, please answer my question! Were you or were you not part of the 70% who supported the Iraq war? If you supported it, you have no credibility with criticizing GWB now because it was much more complicated than imagined.
Again, see my post above. Reps destroyed themselves with arrogance and corruption. That is what the public hated most about Reps. GWB did not have any sex scandals! GWB was not caught enticing teen boys! GWB was not caught soliciting sex in bathrooms! GWB was not caught in money schemes! These are only some of the reasons Reps have trailed Dems until recently.
tgcaGNAt
I never supported the war in Iraq
he pissed the chance off after 9/11
to become a great president
I didnt voted for him!
he is a stupid and to conservative
and after the 8years with him
the americans were ready able and willing to vote
a marionette and clown in the White House
Obama is a clowns but he only bring tears
NOW specially the independents are shocked how unexpierenced and naive he is
but till 2012 its too late and we all must pay a high price for 2008
if Bush wouldnt be that kind of stupid and radical
John McQueen or Hillary would be in the W.H.
Said lefty will be more than happy to support obumbler next time around, it is genetic with them. They caint hep it.
Phil, the economy was starting to do pretty well in late Summer of 1994, as the Tech Wave was starting to take off. Unemployment was getting pretty even.
But the arogance of Clinton and Congressional Dems on Hillarycare and the tax raises were burned into the minds of GOP and Indy voters.
The good economy of 1994 and 2006 did not help the Governing Party, and it will not in 2010. Too late for Obama
poat 260===another steaming pile of bravo sierra.
…and for the record…all of the Rep scandals would have still happened had GWB not been re-elected in 2004 since they were indepedent of him, and the Reps would most likely have stilled lost in 2008 and if it lost the same amount of seats, we would still be seeing HC being pushed by the libs. It would only be called KarryCare.
263 – Beat me too it, or to quote that lefty ranting – “bullsh1t you can bath in”.
264 – Yes and perhaps have covered come cambodians.
Benny:
Sure you’re not one of the 70% who supported the war. We believe you now! How convenient that is. It’s surprising how that 70% have disappeared from the nation’s electorate.
Well, after reading your posts on this site Benny, you should be the last one questioning anyone’s intellect.
You may not agree with Bush but he kept us safe and that is more important than anything.
tgcaGNAt
did he???
LOL
I dont feel save with this clown in the W.H.
and thats Bush fault
The good economy certainly didn’t help the Republicans.
You overlook one thing. Repubicans didn’t have the MSM jumping up and down trumpeting it every day. In fact the MSM quite deliberately played it down. This time? Well, you know the answer. They’ll be orgasmic over it 24/7. Day in, day out.
Reps paid a price in 2008 because they would not listen in 2005 onward. They had been warned in 2006. And what did they do? They ignored it as a fluke election and refused to accept responsibility for their loss. After getting their butts kicked in 2008, only then did they wake up and scratch their heads and realize maybe it had to do with them after all. Reps brought it on themselves and deserved to lose in 2008. Evidently a significant portion of the electorate agreed with that assessment. Come on…MN voted to put Franken in the Senate. Why? Because what people thought of the Reps. The Reps had a severe image problem that went way beyond GWB.
At least I am willing to acknowledge the route of the problem. Sometimes bad things have to happen for good to follow. This is the state we are now in. Suck it up and deal with, and learn from it! Or it will happen again.
Bush is no longer responsible for keeping us safe. He is no longer POTUS.
Obama got elected because of people like you BENNY! You refuse to take accountability for your corrupt and scandalous party and you paid the price. Therefore, I have no sympathy…and the more you blame GWB for Obama, the more America will ignore your party as being beyond rehabilitation and to be trusted again with the future because it insinuates you are more into blaming and showing lack of accountability than you are in putting forth solutions to today’s most pressing problems.
#247 Phil:
I agree the MSM will always downwplay Dem bad behavior and play up Reps behavior. It is part of the political game.
But the point is, the Reps are supposed to be above such scandals and corruption because that is what they constantly prosyltize about being a Rep. The fact that they behaved in that manner is not an excuse to blame the MSM for amplifying their bad behavior. That is like blaming the thief who gets caught by the police. Where’s the accountability for the bad behavior, whether unfairly amplified or not?
Point in case is SC Gov. Mark Sandford. I recall many here advocating his candidacy for POTUS and about how wonderful he is. Where are those people now? Sandford hurt his family, constituents, and party by his actions and his continued refusal to accept true responsibility for his actions as well. He is an example of bad Rep behavior that make people look at the Reps and label them as corrupt and hypocrites. Why hasn’t the Reps gotten him out of office yet? Where is the accountability?
Not making excuses for Republicans. They royally screwed things up from 2002 – 2008. Just saying it helps to have the media in your corner spinning and spinning when your side is in trouble. It keeps your side from free falling. Gives you a floor.
Republicans don’t have that floor when the cycle is bad for our side – just the media jumping in and trying to make it worse – to amplify it. See 2008 presidential campaign. The good news is we now know what the floor is for our side – 45.9%
I really expect to see more ads like this in the 2010 elections:
http://randyaltschuler.com/storm-press.html
#274 Phil:
We would not need the MSM if Reps would just behave as expected by those that voted them in. The fact of the matter is that most Reps behaved no differently than Dems from 2005 onward and the public saw that. It hurt Reps even more because Reps often pontificate more regarding morals and values so they fall much harder when the scandals hit because they are more hypocrticial.
The Reps lost the POTUS in 2008 for the same reason they did in 1992 and 1996…poor candidates for the most part. Love ‘em or hate ‘em…Reagan and GWB ran as conservatives and won. They may not have always governed that way but they were perosnally liked by the electorate and seen as decent fellows who held great convictions. That is more than can be said for Mac, probably the worst Rep candidate in over 40 years.
No more pillows for you!

Why Brandon? Because I don’t drink the kool-aid about GWB like a number of folks here with BDS.
Grow up! Face the facts. The Rep party has a major image problem brought on by scandals, corruption, and bad behavior. All the whining about GWB will not change the image the Reps have.
Tgnat – the ones you argue with claim to be libertarian, but they are not. They hate when the Republicans spend allegedely, and luv it when the Democrats spend.
Many of them have said that H/C is invevitable b/c the Drats are in the majority.
Pretty much a buncx of weak knee types.`
I did not realize that the Bush Administration gave an entry visa to a jihadi, nor mask a jihadi aan month ago, who killed soldiers at an army base.
#284. I don’t disagree with your points. I was just commenting on your repetitious nature.
Tina:
Many of those here with BDS and PDS strike me as the type that would change their tune instantly if the polls favored GWB or Palin. Many just don’t like losing and want to say “I told you so” when things don;t go well. Well, part of politics is losing at times. The Reps lost in 2006 and 2008. People need to get over it and move on and stop looking for excuses to make them feel better. I seriously believe part of it is their inability to accept accountability for their own party and decisions.
That’s why I love to tease them with the “GWB is Great” mantra. It drives them crazy, a sign of their insecurities.
Why would PPP-D publish a poll on Webb – Allen from July?
TGCA – I guess I can say that I am a libertarian too. Least guvment uis best. The faux-libertarians here are actually closet Democrats and big spenders. They love Obamacare.
#284 Brandon:
Well, sometimes you have to beat people over the head until it sinks in. I have been listening to BDS and PDS here for over a year now. When will people get beyond that? It may make them feel better but it accomplishes nothing and does not reflect well on the Reps to constantly shift blame. Start with the mirror I say.
Yes, I posted a bit today but nowhere near as much as most regularly do so I do not feel ashamed for monopolizing the board for a bit.
Again.
GWB is GREAT!
And little Benny and ??? have called me a gay hater. I do not know where that came from, but one or both are plants.
Well I think there is only one person here that truly hates Bush(and will mention it every day) and a different person that hates Palin(and will mention it every day).
I would think that Webb could/would lose to Allen in a rematch given the fact that Webb just voted for Obumblercare, which is not pop nationally or in VA, especially….
Webbless wonder is a useless POS.
He answers each question with Iraq – Vietnman- and a grunt.
http://yidwithlid.blogspot.com/2009/12/max-baucus-denies-being-blotto-on.html
You can vote here on whether you thing Max Baucus was sloshed or not…
wHAT IS ppp SITTING ON?
Don’t know, but they are clearly bent over for the Drats.
Hi Tina:
I lived in SF for over a decade so I know the drill. Calling someone a homophobe or gay-hater is a way to shout people down or intimidate them from arguing their points. The sad thing is that many succumb to such tactics. I agree that homophobes should be labeled as such if they really are homophobes, just as I would expect labeling real racists should be done. But to label someone because you have a different point of view is wrong and suggests they can’t defend themselves in a debate so they resort to intimidation tactics.
Yup, cheap shots.
I find that Napoleon ice cream aka He she it needs to be fired. She just said that there is no evidence of an AQ plot (the Nigerian not being part of one). I see no evidence that refutes her assertion. Everything points to an AQ plot. In her position, she should have said that “we can not conclude one way or the other at this stage blah blah blah…”
She is clearly clueless on the issue and needs to explain why the guvmnet gave the jihadi an entry visa.
Blaming former President Bush is not the answer.
Meant, I see no evidence that supports her statement.
Good news. Dems won’t introduce a bill to change the vacant senate seat laws in NJ. That means if Lautenberg croaks, Christie can appoint a Republican.
http://www.politickernj.com/matt-friedman/35664/sweeney-wont-make-push-senate-vacancy-legislation
Tina I completely agree. Obama is like Tsar Nicholas. I see nothing,a nd I do not care to be bothered.
Nigerians are his brothers, why persecute
Wow brandon, I was going to ask you about that. Did Codey block it?
On Sunday I detailed how obamacare/Pelosicare/Reidcare is a massive transfer of money & benefits from the Blue states to the Red states. Its almost the reverse of the pre-civil war period where the Northern states wanted to deprive the South of its Slaves. Now, under Obamacare, the Northern, left coast and other blue states wants to send all this mone to the Southern and rural western states.
Now someone has made the arguement, which makes some sense, that Obamacare actually needs minorities the hardest. Yup many of the benefit cuts hit many black and hispanic families the hardest. In addition they were be hardest hit by changes in inusrance policies among small business people:
http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2009/dec/28/how-health-reform-nightmare-minorities/
That article is long and contains a lot of information that is new to me. Its funny as the best efforts of congress to benefit the “people” often end up hurting minorities. Where have unemployment soared with our last two increases in the minimum wage? Yup inner youth. If we just had some sort of community organizer in the white house instead of some resort loving -golf playing multi-millionaire Ivy leaguer things would be better in the Hood. The GOP has willfully allowed the democrats to draw up another bill to punish blacks and hispanics.
I think AG elect Cucinelli will be the man to trounce Webb the Coward.
Mercy who can I blame for my spelling mistakes in that post. Please use my errors to read my post again to count and detail my errors.
Anyway, good evening its awfully cold here in N. VA…..
I miss sunny CA and I am putting in 15 hour days.
#302. Pretty much.
“I do believe that whoever replaces the United States senator should be of the same party,” said Codey. “But having said that, any party could have changed this at any point in time… it just looks strictly partisan and is the wrong message at this time.”
Does nayone know the Montana Senate Appointment Laws?
Baucus is a drunken fool and could go down like Bob Packwood.
Brandon, it sounds like Codey has integrity. He might want to run for Laut’s seat when he retires.
Rdel, Obama is not black.
A Hawaian kid with a white mother.
When Burris leaves there will not be one black in the Senate.
Do you see Obama trying to help any Black candidates?
He rather hang out with his white Henchman like Reid.
“Obama Calls for ‘Respect’ in Iran”
Now there is some strong and decisive action. Mullahs are sh….. their robes in fear of such determination and conviction.
“…could go down like Bob Packwood.”
Somebody do something with this, it’s just floating over home plate…
Jason back in 1995, Packwood was doing the same as Baucus. Drunk and feeling up female staffers.
The Dems did a great job of putting the screws to him to resign, and he was a Chairman too. Wyden ended up with his seat.
Waht you need is Coburn and demint to call for Baucus to resign, but then Vitter and Ensign would be in trouble.
Tom Jensen was better off not revealing the poll from the summer. He shouldn’t have let it known that he sat on a poll.
Blogger Tom Jensen said…
The Allen/Webb part of the poll needed to be reweighted to a Presidential year electorate instead of Gubernatorial and I just never bothered to do it until today.
https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=2799451770086337664&postID=2370769843148758442
Someone said here hat Webb would do better because Obama will be on the ticket with him.
What a farce, Obama will drag him down.
That was me. Last November blacks made up 16% of the electorate. In 2008 blacks made up 20% of the Va electorate. Dropping the white vote by 4 or 5% of the electorate and upping the black vote by 4% is how Obama helps Webb.
That’s the math of it.
300 I am the one who has been posting on this
since the election. Codey acts like a regular
guy but he is a master politician. Sweeny is george
Norcross’s puppet. Lot of power there as a matter
of fact , enough to take Codey out ( Maj. Leader)
Codey also was pushed aside by corzines $. Codey
wants to and will pay them both back big time. I
don’t have a crystal ball as to what will happen
but it will. This is real hardball politics at
its best. Corzine will be easy unless Obama owes
him. But Codey vs. Sweeny aka Norcross is a
major heavyweight fight. BTW I do not trust
Sweeny on the Lautenberg bill although he will
only have one week. If you like politics this is
a good one
Phil, get real. Obama will lose at least 8% of the White Vote in VA.
Blacks will not matter
My best guess on Sweeny’s payback is a major
corruption indictment of one of Sweeny’s
henchman. Somebody will drop a dime to the
Atty Gen or the press. just my guess, Jersey Style
309 Codey could have run for Gov. and won easily.
He won’t run
Blacks won’t matter? How do you think Obama carried Virginia anyway? McCain got 65% of the white vote in Virginia. Unfortunately, Obama got 98% of the 20% of the electorate that was black.
Now the good news is that in 2010 with Obama not on the ballot the black percentage of the electorate falls back down to 15 or 16 percent. Probably means we have a good shot at knocking off three Dem congressmen.
Looks like Vikings are going to lose again. .
Great hing about Jersey is that Christie gets to appoint the AG and sec of state.
That has to piss off Soros, that we picked up the SOS in both Va and NJ in 2009.
Bears stink. this will probably keep awful PC coach Lovie the Loser for another year.
for anybody that has an interest,http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2009/10/latest_essex_game_no_fun_for_c.html
here is the
inside baseball on Norcross/Sweeny taking
Codey out. This is the way its done in jersey

“Vitter and Ensign would be in trouble”
—
Vitter and Ensign were drunk on the floor of the Senate?
This guy is on crack! The article below is hilarious at best. The hi-lites are below.
“Moderating” our goals is not a recipe for victory. It is a recipe for failure. Last fall, voters overwhelming voted for change, and they knew then — and still know now — the kind of change they wanted.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/robert-creamer/democrats-do-not-need-to_b_404798.html
1). Democrats need to demonstrate to the voters that we are fighting tooth and nail for the goals they support. I do, by the way, think that a public option — which continues to have overwhelming public support — will be approved before many of the provisions of the health care reform bill go into effect.
2). Democrats need to deliver. Democrats need to use every organ of political power available to them — in the Executive Branch and Congress — to create jobs. The recipe for victory for Democrats in November does not involve more “moderation,” it involves more populism.
3). Not only do we need to forcefully rein in the power of Wall Street and the Big Banks — we need to frame the political dialogue in decidedly populist terms. If you want to get people in rural and small-town America fired up for Democrats, it won’t be by sounding more “moderate” or tepid in our goals or in the way we talk. It will be by focusing their legitimate anger where it belongs: on the Big Wall Street Banks. If it’s not focused there, it will be focused on those who are in charge of government: Democrats.
4). We must continue to forcefully and proudly stand up for progressive values.
“Tgnat – the ones you argue with claim to be libertarian, but they are not. They hate when the Republicans spend allegedely, and luv it when the Democrats spend.” Tina
that would be wes, chekote and random
the faux libertarians
writtten by another “progressive” who lives in the liberal bubble.
Seriously, liberals don’t have a clue what’s brewing out there.
Populism does not win elections in the US. John Edwards tried that and lost terribly in his bid for the Dem POTUS nomination. Americans are not that naive!
By the way, whatever happened to John and those false allegations about his affair and bastard child? Typical Rep tactics to tarnish an otherwise great man looking out for America’s best interests.
LOL #2 is especially funny, they think the last year has been highlighted by “moderation” on their part? LOL delusional.
“If you want to get people in rural and small-town America fired up for Democrats”
–
Has this dude looked at one of those red\blue county maps in the last decade?
#4 – Oh by god please do, have them all stand up loud and proud behind them!!!
333 – Yeah odd how that whole saga including the house for the mistress wife-to-be in waiting didn’t get much ink, but if Palin even farts everyone knows about it.
Hey Lisa:
Merry post X-mas!
I miss our late night gatherings here with ATX while everyone else slept. The downside of living on the west coast I guess. What ever happened to ATX by the way? He must be busy reading 100 pages a day and too busy to come here anymore.
P.S. Did you get together with your sisters to fight during the holiday?
KH – like I said, these guys live in the liberal bubble. Clueless. They talk only among themselves and listen to Olbermann nonstop. They have no idea the storm that is brewing out there.
#335 Knightie:
To be fair to the MSM and not blame them for everything, if Palin farts and everyone knows about it, it is because her pantyhose swell up. Everyone knows pantyhose momentarily swell up when a woman passes gas…why do you think Hilary wears pants all the time?
338 – lol, yeah and I’m all about being fair to the MSM.
hi tgca,
i miss the late night chats too.
no, i stayed in illinois for the holidays. my sisters and i had a major fight — even for us — last year.
they took my mother’s jewelry off her when she was in the hospital and i insisted that they give it to my father, and that my mom be buried with her favorite jewelry an egyption ankh …
when i say i insisted, i mean sort of like the way mike tyson insisted that michael spinx give him the title … literally my exact words to my sister was
“cough it up cleopatra”
lots of words beginning with f were involved too
and then after the funeral my dad gave most of the jewelry to my sisters anyway
OK…for inquiring minds. Pics of the Underwear Bomber undies. ***Warning*** Not responsible for the dirty linen and skidmarks.
http://themoderatevoice.com/57346/abc-news-photo-of-failed-bombers-potentially-explosive-underwear/
I wonder if these undies will someday show up in the Smithsonian. After all, it is part of our history. Perhaps they can be displayed next top Monica’s favorite blue dress. Hmmm…..
By the way…don’t they look like a girl’s panties? Perhaps he was not a terrorist after all and just had PRS (Panty Rage Syndrome). I know I would want to blow up my underwear if they looked liked that.
overtime
Welcome back lisab! I have missed you…..
Wes…i used to like and respect you….but you are just nasty and mean to people that dont share in your pathetic hatred of Bush. Get over it…….(and i wont make any snide remarks about why you are getting divorced….but if you treat your family with HALF the contempt that you do people here when you dont like their views…..you are better off single. No-one should have to put up with your attitude on a daily basis ).
Benny…..sorry….but you are the dumbest poster on this site….and its not even close. Just shut up.
hi Sickofdems,
nice to see you too — i am just back temporarily, i am on Christmas break.
not to help al qaeda or anything, but would not a bomb in you underwear hurt?
Not sure about the terrorists and their “packages” but there is very little room left in MY underwear for a bomb!
Keep the snide remarks to yourselves too……….lol
I think Benny is German so his English is just really bad.
test test
I know he is German…..i was referring to his views.
I try to leave most people to their views….whether i agree with them or not…..but some are just so irritating that i sometimes have to say something or i will go nuts….lol.
It takes a lot to get me to the point of slamming someone….he just does not strike me as very bright.
Wes on the other hand does strike me as bright…..and i agree with a lot of what he says. But his arrogance is just insufferable. Not sure he really even realizes what a jackass he sounds like sometimes…..
But….he is also young…and when i was that age i was pretty arrogant as well. Humility and a certain amount of tolerance does indeed come with age….
Sickofdems:
I don’t know about you…but I often buy extra large underwear (and not because of my waist size either) so perhaps I can fit a bomb in there. Its already got some dynamite there.
Sorry! I could not resist myself!
LOL…..
Now that was funny tgcaGNAT…..
ok ok … enough of you gentlemen talking about the size of your packages
Now don’t get all jealous Lisa!
Hey….i never mentioned size…..the GNAT did that…..
And admit it lisab…..it made you at least smile too….cuz it was pretty funny….
men are so weird …
Is this news to you lisab?
Men are weird?
Ok…and women are normal????
“Is this news to you lisab?”
nope
“Ok…and women are normal????”
yup
#360
oh Lord!
oh, but in regard to perot …
clinton was a second tier candidate. the only reason he even ran was because all the major candidates on the dem side dropped out due to bush’s warchest and popularity.
however, in every campaign there are watershed moments and the two big ones were when perot entered the race and when he dropped out. when he entered the race suddenly bush no longer had a cash lead — perot did. both he and clinton bashed bush with a combined warchest while bush had difficulty defending against perot’s (true) charges of economic bad behavior by bush. perot took the lead in the polls pulling the bulk of the support bush — which actually was not surprising because bush was way ahead of clinton before perot entered.
when perot left the race clinton got most of perot’s liberal supporters back, but bush never recovered. perot went down 20% of which bush got only 6%. clinton got 14%.
had perot never run and bashed bush with his warchest and made bush “beatable”, it is very very very doutful in the extreme that clinton could have won.
clinton, had he been alone without perot, would have been outspent 2 to 1 vs. bush because bush could spend all his primary cash on the general election. plus he would have been facing “the unbeatale” bush who would have had a likely 20 point lead at the conventions and clinton would likely have been seen as a loser who would have been hurt much worse by the press for his womanizing — just ask gary hart.
instead all the focus was on perot.
in 1996 perot was however just an insurance policy for the dems. dole had very little chance even had perot not run.
what does being outspent 2 to 1 mean?
ask mccain.
oh, and just to dispel the last myth the dems love to trot out, that the perot vote would have split evenly according to the exit polls …
two points
a.) the damage perot did was in making bush “beatable” by bashing him with his warchest, speeches and unpaid advertisement — perot bashed bush in every news article. he even won the first debate.
b.) the whole point is that bush was beaten when perot ENTERED the race, not on election day. perot’s voters were mostly from the middle class and upper class, not your typical dem voters.
perot haaaaaated bush almost more than wes
tgcaGNAT and sickofdems
YOU are the idiot!!
I learn english by myself and I live in Germany and meet my US friends of the party and family once or twice in a year!
I dont know some words in a typical way only english school words
and my grammar maybe lausy but thats not so bad as you try to told me!!
you are very intolerant!!
Dear Tina
I hope you had a great christmas time with your family!
I dont call you a gay hater but I was very surprised that you are so much again the same rights of gay people!!!
I`m a big fan of the clintons but I`m sure thta Bill without Perot would probably barely lost to Bush
Benni,
although looking back it may seem as if clinton was a masterful campaigner, this was not so in 1992.
he was the bubba candidate. he was unknown. he had no money. he was a known womanizer. finally, he was 20 points down in the polls.
although i grant you he would have pulled within 10 points just by showing up, it is VERY doubtful he could have come much within five. the american system just does not work that way. if you get outspent by a popular incumbant when you are an unknown you basically have no chance. bush 1 was far more popular than ford and clinton was an unknown with no money.
oh enni,
bubba = “uncivilized”, “bararic”, “moronic” or “southern”
Benni,
finally, do not mind tgca or sickofdems
just remind them you are european.
a typical conservative western european is a mainstream democrat in the usa. to put it in perspective Prime Minister Merkel would be considered about the same as Bob Dole … almost a RINO … despite being the “iron frau” of germany. to be honest, most in the usa have no idea what to make of germans. the french we understand and dislike. the germans we don’t understand.
#365:
No, that misconception is now pushed by some revisionist Conservatives, here. Clinton would have easily beaten Bush, as exit polling showed that the Perot vote would have been almost evenly split between the two.
Bush was an incumbent who got 38% of the vote. That is a pitiful number. He was fired.
Bill Clinton was the lucky beneficiary.
Clinton did have one thing going for him. Likeability. The American People liked him, warts and all.
That fact continues to enrage his detractors, to this day.
#364:
That is not a myth. That is absolute fact. The VRS confirms this. And, the data also shows that a Perot absence might have only put Ohio into play. Nothing else.
No one with a 34% approval rating is going to get elected dog catcher.
He lost by over 6 million votes, for crying out loud.
He would have had to win the Perot vote by a 3-1 margin.
These talk-radio assertions about that election are ludicrous, driven by solelt by the fact that they want to blame their loss on anyone but themselves.
Tim is once again being intellectually dishonest and entertaining us with trash talk but there is no surprise there. A fair assessment of the election shows Bush would have won the election narrowly without Perot, mainly because Perot voters did not split evenly in every state. Tim knows you can’t look at the general margin since in the U.S. we have something called the electoral college. In many states the Perot candidacy made no difference but in analyzing the data on what the second choice of Perot voters would have been there is a wide variance state by state. In several states that Bush lost by small margins more Perot voters would have picked Bush as their second choice, so the “national” statement that “he would have had to win the Perot vote by 3-1″ is a red herring and Tim knows it. In addition to Ohio here are some other states Bush would have probably won, because these were states where Perot’s votes came MAINLY FROM REPUBLICANS who would not have voted for a Democrat. They include Colorado, Georgia, Kentucky, Montana, New Hampshire, Nevada, Louisiana, Maine and New Jersey.
“New Jersey, 15 electoral votes: In 1988, Bush won New Jersey by 56% to 42%. In 1992, Clinton edged Bush, 43% to 41%, with Perot taking 16% of the vote. Given the anti-tax spirit of many in New Jersey at that time, given the unpopularity of Gov. Jim Florios tax increase, it is possible that the Perot vote would have broken toward Bush.”
Clinton was a throw-away candidate the Democrats came up with along with other non-entities like Tsongas and Gov. Moonbeam when all the heavyweights had to defer to GHWB’s popularity at decision time. Nobody in the party expected him to win.
And let’s not forget GHWB was going to win the election anyway even WITH PEROT had it not been the last minute hail mary of the special prosecutor indicting Weinberger 4 DAYS BEFORE THE ELECTION, the most partisan and blatant political interference in history. Bush was surging and had pulled even with Clinton. The MSM of course hammered the indictment right up to election day and Bush lost his momentum.
#365 Hey Benny:
Who you calling an idiot? I question your ignorant and baseless comments and that pisses you off? Grow up! If you don’t like to be challenged for making baseless and opinionated claims then don’t post your views. Last time I looked, that was the point here, for people to share their opinions and that means often having them vigorously challenged.
As for your language skills, I did not demean them in any way. Don’t use your English as a 2nd language as an excuse for being challenged on your inadequate and baseless arguments. The two are mutually exclusive and you do not deserve special treatment simply because English is not your 1st language.
#368 Lisab:
Well, I thought I understood the Germans. Cold, heartless people that were repsonsible for the two biggest wars in history, killing nearly a couple hundred million people, and attempting to annihilate the Jews because of the German inferiority complex…which still exists today but only much better hidden. Once a great people now a nation of PC-lovers and libs trying to cope with their inhumane misdeeds which will take more than 50 years to overcome before they can be taken seriously or have the right to preach tolerance.
