These pa numbers are great. I have not been counting pa as a done deal until now. Here’s what I have:we hold every defended seat. Done deals in co il de ar nv pa nd. It seems I’m forgetting one. Ct was in thy category and isn’t anymore. But that puts us at 48 without toppling others that will be toppled.

  4. Polaris says:

#367 (prior thread) The problem is that I’ve heard that before but Pelosi, Rahm, and Obama manage to do it anyway with unprecedented corruption, bribery, and political intimidation.

I won’t relax until both Pelosi and Obama are out of office or at the very least unable to muster majorities of any kind under any circumstance.

    -Polaris

  5. Mark Cali says:

3 – Are you sure about IL? That, to me, is the shakiest. But please make your case. I think CO DE AR NV PA and ND are safe though. Now I also think that IN CA, WI, HI and WA could be in play. NY too.

  6. BPL in Scottsdale says:

Bye bye Specter. Nail in coffin from “Act like a lady” comments toward Michelle B. Yes, grandpa, once you stop acting like a little girl, you marble-mouthed moron.

  7. Phil says:

Those poll numbers will change once Pelosi and co resurect Obamacare. I just know it.

    You go Nancy!

  8. Wes says:

I like Burr’s numbers in the PPP poll. I hate registered voter polls though.

  9. Wes says:

DDems have a poor, corrupt nominee in IL, Mark. Meanwhile, Kirk is a solid candidate who has some Al Salvi clones sniping at him to give him a chance to define himself as a moderate Republican in a heavily Dem state. Good chance of a pickup there.

  10. Big D says:

    Polaris,

Pelosi and Obama gone is not enough. We have to get to the heart of the beast that keep churning out these candidates and people in powerful positions. Until then we just cut off one head of the hydra and 3 more return even more nasty.

  11. Wes says:

Roy Barnes lost 8 years ago in an election where he lead every poll. In a climate clearly antipathetic to his party, I don’t see how he makes it back to the governorship.

  12. addisonst says:

5 I live in Chicago. The dems have an outsider who is a thorn in the side of the machine and I could actually vote for him. Kirk is the guy on the gop side. He voted for cap and trade in his liberal district and is too liberal for my tastes in Gen but he voted against the stim and health care. He is a reservist. He also is well funded. On top of that we have the blago stain. IMHO the only people who can beat kirk is our own by blasting him now bc he’s not pure. He is a brown style candidate thoug not having the star power. I imagine brown will be here raising money for him. And I see a huge win here in our state wide races due to the same backlash as mass plus a criminal gov who put a sen seat on eBay. Were effin golden.

  13. rdelbov says:

Barnes may not even make it through the primary

great polls today as the numbers seemed mighty fine

  14. Wes says:

What odds would you lay down on the GOP’s being able to recapture the Senate this year, Rdel?

  15. KnightHawk says:

Dave I doubt they polled GA on Jan 29th. ;) 20th you probably meant.

  16. Wes says:

    How go things, Knight?

  17. Chekote says:

    No Lazio please. Thank you.

  18. Wes says:

Lazio seems like your ideal candidate, Chek.

  19. KnightHawk says:

11 – Ox had a not so good debate on the 20th wes.

  20. Chekote says:

    Wes

Why would you say that? My ideal candidate is Brown. Strong on defense. Strong on fiscal issues. Social moderate.

  21. Wes says:

I was just ribbing you, Chek.

  22. lisab says:

80 dem house members will NOT get full congressional pensions if they lose in 2010

38 only have to win this election to get their full pension

  23. KnightHawk says:

Ask me why he did so bad wes.

  24. Wes says:

Well, one poor debate performance doesn’t kill a candidate necessarily, Knight. If it did, Kerry would have beaten Bush–who had three back to back–in 2004.

  25. Phil says:

All those Democratic House and Senate members who walked the plank for Pelosi and Reid over Obamacare….

How does it feel Ben, Blanche, Evan, plus all you blue frauds in the House….Feel good now? Did you get a lot out of that vote?

    Bhahahahaha

  26. rdelbov says:

    Wes

right now a hair shy of 50-50. Now if you say 51 because of Biden its more like 10%. Its easily to get to 50 then 51

We need top tier or near top tier recruits in IN-WA-NY.

It was almost an overlooked poll the other day-I think you or Brandon commented on it. The CT poll that had Simmons 54-35. I think in a month or two Blumenthal will at 50 or below. I have not given up on that state.

I feel a lot better about all the GOP holds. NV-DE-AR-ND-PA-CO look pretty solid right now. That gets in to 47 and then you need to roll the dice or draw to inside straight with IL-CA-CT-WA-NY-IN. You got one tossup to GOP lead(IL) with two incumbents under 50%(NY-CA) plus some long shots. Get Pence in there and Lazio then all of sudden you got a couple of wild cards.

Last March someone had the GOP 4 down with all democrats safe with KY-OH-MO-NH-NC-FL were all vulnerable. 8 months can make a huge difference

  27. Wes says:

Why did he do badly, Knight?

  28. Wes says:

That was Aaron the Texan Commun ist and LisaB who declared the Dems would cross the 60-vote margin this election, Rdel.

  29. KnightHawk says:

    27 – He didn’t go, all 6 others did. ;)

  30. Wes says:

Well, that didn’t help him much, did it, Knight?

  31. Mark Cali says:

Wes, you’re thinking Giannoulias will win? I hear Hoffman (D) is competitive in that primary.

  32. KnightHawk says:

No it’s not the end, just saying with so many candidates etc I’m not surprised to see polls showing it closer then you would expect.

  33. Wes says:

Last I heard, Giannoulias was the frontrunner, Mark. I hadn’t heard about this Hoffman character.

  34. KnightHawk says:

30 – But thankfully for him the other 6 didn’t do all that great either. lol

  35. lisab says:

    AP today

  36. Wes says:

Does anyone know Wilye Coyote–Super Genius’ position on Obamacare? I’m having a hard time figuring out where he stands on the issue.

  37. KnightHawk says:

22 – Interesting stat if accurate.

  38. lisab says:

who … who in the world … doesn’t expect jobless rates to go up after Christmas

are they thinking aout that huge MLK day rush?

  39. Wes says:

So, Knight, what babe do you hope will appear on Red Eye tonight?

  40. KnightHawk says:

36 – I’m going out on a limb and going to say he’s not a fan of Obamacare ;)

  41. Wes says:

I’m hoping for anyone but that repulsive slug Amy Schumer.

  42. Mark Cali says:

Primary’s in 2 weeks, Wes. Kirk looks set to win the nomination our side, but the Dem side is a little crowded with Giannoulias polling in the low 30’s (down from 50 a few months before). Meanwhile, Jackson and Hoffman are gaining steam. It’s shakier on the Dem side.

But I agree with you. If it’s Kirk vs. Giannoulias, I’d feel a lot more comfortable with our chances of taking over that seat.

  43. KnightHawk says:

    S.E.Cupp – Can’t really get enough.
I like that they are starting to have like a regular crew but swap it up enough to not get stale.

  44. MD says:

I think WEC likes certain features of Obamacare but just has some reservations on the edges.

  45. lisab says:

“That was Aaron the Texan Commun ist and LisaB who declared the Dems would cross the 60-vote margin this election, Rdel.”

    wow, you remember that?

true, but you all thought i was wrong.

    benford’s law wins again

  46. Wes says:

I think they need to put women on either side of Bill all the time, Knight, and have the male guest on remote. When they have a guest, they should have Bill get up and leave for the length of the segment.

  47. Wes says:

I didn’t think you were wrong, Lisa. I knew you were wrong. In fact, you were wrong.

  48. KnightHawk says:

46 – Less bill would help the show, don’t get me wrong he can be quite funny but a little less of him would be good for the show.

  49. Wes says:

Agreed, Knight. When is that Diane Mecido babe going to be in the leg chair? She’s scorching hot.

  50. rdelbov says:

My sense is that redstate and others are a little confused by what’s going on behind the curtains on Capital Hill. Frankly I am confused as well. This HC seems dead to nearly every observor and yet the paddles are in hand and Pelosi is ready to shout “clear”.

There are several ideas still floating around.

1a. The pass the senate bill in the house idea with a quick fix reonciliation bill that will clear everything that the democrats feel are objectable in the senate/house. The downside of this idea is 1st the senate bill is very unpopular in the house-no one has agreeded yet on what needs to be fixed in reconciliaton plus its not certain that there are 51 votes to fix it. Not to mention reconciliation in the senate would look a like WWIII.

1b. A variation of this is just to slim down the orginal bill to reconciliation form. Talk about your time and effort. See me at Eater-Bunny. Time is our friend right now.

    2. its the mini-bill or mini-bar idea. Okay the 2074 page bill is too much for everyone. Let’s just take a few ideas out the bill and try to pass it. In case the democrats think all those taxes are unpopular as are those medicare cuts. So bill #1 would just be a little 1300 page re-write of all the insurance rules within pre-existing conditions-force writting of policies-antiTrust exempt gone-limit executive payroll just all the nasty stuff Wylie warned us about.

There are other ideas but they are variations of the ideas listed above.

All will take time and will have the effect of keeping HC alive for months. Okay lets create more uncertainty in the economy?? Here’a an idea attach HC to Cap/Trade.

  51. Wes says:

    Diane Macedo, I mean.

  52. sam says:

Nothing will pass because Obama is too stupid to get a bill passed.

  53. Gil says:

Everyone seems to be forgetting about Wisconsin. Feingold seems to be safe unles Tommy Thompson runs. Guess what, Tommy Thompson is seriously considering running. Put Wisconsin into the possible mix.

This election is starting to remind me on the 1980 election. It might not be a Presidential election year but from a year out, I get the sense that it is starting to feel alot like Carter Redux. The mood of the country is getting more angry and apprehensive as time goes by. If something else bad happens or the economy worsens, the bottom will completely fall out for the Democrats.

PS TO PRESIDENT OBAMA: YOU AND THE DEMOCRATS NOW OWN THIS MESS AND NOTHING YOUR BUDDIES IN MSM CAN SAY WILL ALTER THAT FACT IN THE MINDS OF THE AMERICAN VOTING PUBLIC.

  54. Wes says:

    Great post, Gil!!!!

    Every Dem is vulnerable.

Very few Dems, in red or blue states, can survive 60-70% of Indies voting against them.

  57. sam says:

The electorate has turned 20-30 points topline against the Dems in one year.

Indies have turned 40-50 points against the Dems in one year..

No Dem can hide anywhere, not even Massuchussetts.

MSM is no help, witness VA, NJ and MA.

Money and incumbency, union machine don’t matter.

Folks, you are in historical times.

  58. Wylie E. Coyote - Super Genius says:

#50 Yeah, its hard but I think the leftist leadership in the D cabal, er party is hellbent on gettin the bad stuff you list in #2 thru….

That establishes the HC industry takeover in federal law…..thats the minimum they want – govt control…..

It may take them another decade or two more for this to morph into a single-payer like HC system and resulting polical benefits for the left….

But their bet is only lead to the left-leaning political culture and govt nanny state they crave….

Its their “legacy” for the leftist cause…..

We are now on a better footing with Brown in to oppose it but there is no letting the guard down for months….

Tying this down for months is great as it gets us one more day closer to NOV 10 but at the end of the day, any form of the Pelosi/Obama/hard left verision of ‘HC reform’ cant become law…..

  59. Wylie E. Coyote - Super Genius says:

Obama and the hard left are alot of things…..stupid is not one of them….

I know this is an RNC talking point being pushed to shape mass public opinion to turn him into another Carter in everyones head….

But these folks know exactly what they want now and long term and have a plan to get it and are ruthlessly executing it….

I would say this puts them a step ahead of conservatives who have no long term vision or strategy……

Capatializing on current public opinion to win the next election is not a strategy to oppose the left or to enact policies that will shift the country and electorate in the direction you want…..

No, this “stupid” line is not reality with the Obama crew….

  60. lisab says:

“I didn’t think you were wrong, Lisa. I knew you were wrong. In fact, you were wrong.”

no, i said they would get 60 not cross 60

“The Obama administration is preparing to handle applications from as many as 200,000 undocumented Haitian immigrants who want to live and work legally in the United States under a new immigration program unveiled last week in the aftermath of Haiti’s destructive earthquake.”

  62. addisonst says:

Regarding gianoulis in I he was obamas boy but he is now nuclear. He is the favorite bc of the machine but Kirk said at a fundeasiar that the wh begged everybody to run bc he is mobbed up and his family has a bank in trouble. And Kirk said rahm isn’t running bc he will be a key witness in blagos trial. That rings true to me bc rahm has the money and the name and 6 months ago could have cleared the field. Kirk has money and a resume and. If he survives tygr rino shit, he kind of is but man up and vote for him, he wins easy. I see him as more likely than toomey who I moved to lock today

  63. rdelbov says:

    Wylie

what’s funny about their idea is that they think just completely rewritting all the health care insurance laws is just a little mini-bill. As noted it would have the effect of wrecking HC as we know. yes there would no mandate to buy insurance or medicare/medicaid cuts plus taxes and plus all other junk.

Just the massive rewrite of all the rules plus instead of malpractice reform -several of these rules open up more roads for lawsuits.

As much I would enjoy having nothing to discuss but HC for months (a real vote loser for the democrats) just killing this bill would be great.

Landrieu just kills me. She suggests that the house just pass the bill and enact her bribe plan.

    pitiful

  64. House Sparrow says:

Arlen Specter is finished, he can take that to the bank. The Dems got slaughtered in the statewide judicial elections here in Nov. 2009. The Dem brand will be even more damaged, and the intensity and enthusiasm even more solidly on our side in 2010.

Our GOP ticket here will be headlined by two proven winners in Pat Toomey and Tom Corbett, along with some great US House candidates. Gov. Rendell is no longer an asset, but a net liability like any other prominent Dem. It’s great to be a Pennsylvania Republican!

  65. Wylie E. Coyote - Super Genius says:

    From NRO:

    http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=YTIxZmJiOGUwMTViYjYxODVjOGYzNGUxOTkzNDcyYWU=

“Paul Ryan on Reconciliation [Robert Costa]

Rep. Paul Ryan (R., Wis.), the ranking member of the House Budget Committee, tells National Review Online that House Democrats are planning to use the budget-reconciliation process in order to pass Obamacare. “They’re meeting with each other this weekend to pursue it,” says Ryan. “I’ve spoken with many Democrats and the message is this: They’re not ready to give up. They’ve waited their entire adult lives for this moment and they aren’t ready to let 100,000 pesky votes in Massachusetts get in the way of fulfilling their destiny. They’ll look at every option and spend the next four or five days figuring it out.”

If the Democrats pass a health-care bill through reconciliation, it means they would need only 51 votes in the Senate for final passage. To start the process, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) would need to bring a new health-care bill to the House budget committee with reconciliation instructions, with the Senate doing the same. “They’d have to go back to the beginning of the process,” says Ryan. “They’d need to affix reconciliation instructions to a new bill.” Doing so, he says, wouldn’t be too hard. “There’s nothing we can do to stop this from a technical standpoint, since all they need is a simple majority vote and our ratio on the committee is terrible. What [Republicans] can do on the budget committee is pass resolutions for the Rules committee to insist on certain changes in the bill and create a ‘vote-a-rama’ atmosphere.”

If reconciliation happens, Ryan predicts that the Democrats will still have a hard time pulling it off. “There are Blue Dog Democrats out there who are more survivalist than ideologues. One or two switches could be a game changer. The question is whether Democrats will continue to follow Pelosi off the cliff. After Massachusetts, the Democrats are quickly realizing that even if the president comes in to stump, and you get all the union support you need, it’s still not enough to get you elected.”

Well, I wanted to be wrong and see CrappyCare die shortly after the Brown win….

But election night, me and Polaris said that they would not cease just yet….

This AM was thought I was thankful wrong…..

Unfortunately, I was correct – the lust for power continues….

No victory cigar yet…back to the fight

  68. addisonst says:

Obamacare: Down But Not Yet Out [Jason Fodeman]

Obamacare is certainly bruised and battered, and common sense would dictate that following this political upset, the plan is dead. But pundits and experts have prematurely pronounced Obamacare’s demise before. Thanks to declining polls and a summer full of average Americans’ standing up and protesting at town halls across the country, many have opined that Democrats would slow down or maybe even start over. Nonetheless, Mr. Obama has doggedly stuck to his guns. He has given speech after speech, gone on talk show after talk show, repeatedly redefined and rebranded. He has vehemently attacked those in opposition and — with help from a “Louisiana Purchase” here and a “CornHusker Kickback” there — Obamacare has teetered on.

The Left may have its back against the wall, but it still has options to push this fiasco farther. The House could adopt the Senate bill in its current state. While this bill may be less radical than the House version, its passage would still put the nation on an irreversible step toward a single payer system. Democrats could also utilize reconciliation — a budgetary option that hitherto they have kept on the table. Although not typically used for this type of legislation, it would enable the bill’s passage with only 51 votes.

Obama, Senator Reid, and Speaker Pelosi have refused to read the writing on the wall. They have been hell bent on increasing the government’s role in health care. Their actions demonstrate that they believe the passage of their radical bill in the name of “reform” will be better in the long run for the Democratic party than would abandoning the legislation.

Mr. Clinton was smart enough to take the latter course after the 1994 midterm elections and saved his presidency. But at this point it would be naïve and premature to think that Mr. Obama will do the same.

  71. lisab says:

“Lisa that guy is a whacko”

he said something like kirk did not serve in afghanistan or something …

he had a commercial on roe conn

  72. House Sparrow says:

I don’t see the evil Madame Pelosi getting to 218 again. Her extortion tactics simply won’t work on a lot of the Blue Frauds. “We’ll primary you out!”..Yes, Nancy, put up radical lefty primary challengers to your guys in red districts. A narrow win or close loss becomes a 70-30 blowout. Brilliant!

Give guys like Chris Carney (D-PA 10) the choice between pissing off Pelosi or the people his district, and guess who he’s going to throw under the bus??

  73. addisonst says:

Lisa I don’t know how those ads get run. The issue is not this guy gaining traction. The issue is this crap in the air. It probably won’t matter bc as the joker said, this town needs an enema. I believe the county and state will get one. Kirk is to left for this site. I agree with that but he is the best we will get here and we need to make him the figurehead for the party and clean it out

  74. rdelbov says:

I said back in Nov that the calendar was our friend. frankly I had no idea that MA would be the reason that time was so vital.

I think Reid-Pelosi-maybe even Obama knows this turkey is dead.

I think politics is the only reason the last nail has been hammered down.

The democrats cannot give up HC because it will dispirit the Left. I think there is a chance that for the next 8 months we will go throught the motions of trying to pass something called HC reform.

Pelosi-Reid will ruthlessly advance whatever they think they get 218 votes or 51 votes in the senate.

I think they know that what they lose in the middle would be nothing compared to what they lose on the left. I might add that any democrat who opposes this move will lose GE support from the left. DINO’s (democrat in name only) will not get support.

  75. jones says:

So if dems truely cared about common people, they could pass minor reforms targeting the truely needy.

    Why wouldn’t they do that?

    (Yes I know already. Disgusting)

  76. addisonst says:

Btw I love this site and I don’t need props0 that being said, I did say on Friday that the race was over and the one going there was a fools errand. My 7 locks will stand

  77. Wylie E. Coyote - Super Genius says:

#76 Yeah, I am tracking on this!

Well need to throw every roadblock in their path to stop it….

Continue to make them bleed more everyday until they drop it or agree to genuine talks on adding free market reforms with R leadership….

Until then, no one-side D plan can be trusted or allowed to pass!

  78. Charles says:

I see the GOP still can’t nominate or pick an effective Speaker to combat Skippy.

McDonnell is going to be about as effective as Jindal was, as in not very and Tea Party people area already wary of him and RNC.

So here’s a free hint to the soon to be unemployed head of the GOP, Chairman Steele.

The most effective speaker and by far the most charismatic and widespread appealing person for the GOP is working at Fox News right now. You might as well go ahead and give her the job as a preview of the smack down she’s going to lay down on Skippy in the debates.

  79. Wylie E. Coyote - Super Genius says:

    More NRO:

“Next Up: Congress [Bradley A. Smith]

Examing the congressional reaction to Citizens United v. FEC, we start with the always entertaining Alan Grayson, who last week preemptively introduced a package of bills with such bombastic titles as “The Corporate Propaganda Sunshine Act,” the “Defund the Crooks Act,” and the “Business Should Mind Its Own Business Act.” One would impose a 500 percent tax on any corporate political spending. Another would prohibit trading in any company that refused to abide by the pre-Citizens United law.

That these proposals are clearly unconstitutional doesn’t matter much to Mr. Grayson, who only has eleven months left in Congress to make his reputation and gain that slot guest hosting for Keith Olbermann. It’s highly doubtful they could ever pass, anyway.

In a more serious effort, so-called reform groups have pledged $4 million to using the Citizens United decision to press for passage of what’s called the “Fair Elections Now Act,” which would provide for government funding of congressional campaigns. And here, they may have the votes, at least to move something in the House.”

  80. Mike M says:

Obamacare should be renamed “Jason”- how many times has this been killed, only to come back with vengeance from the dead? If the Dems truly want riots in DC, just try to pass this POS.

  81. KnightHawk says:

83 – Or the Freddy Kruger Bill, since they keep trying to kill us with late night votes. Jason probably is more fitting.

  82. Mike M says:

#81… please give up the ship on Palin… she is N O T presidential timber, and has no chance to get the nomination. We cannot afford to waste the opportunity in 2012 to take down this communist. I give McCain credit for his “hail Mary” in picking Palin for the 08 election, but she’s had her shot.

The final nail in Palin’s coffin was her RESIGNATION! Do you really think a majority of Americans are going to choose a quitter to be President? If she can’t handle the heat in Alaska, she wouldn’t last a week in DC. Time to move on, amigo. There are plenty of other potential good candidates out there- Romney, Huntsman, Barbour, etc. Take Huckabee off your list as well- no one can imagine him as leader of the free world.

“Obamacare: Time to Start Over [Jeffrey H. Anderson]

In the aftermath of the Democrats’ stunning defeat in Massachusetts, Democratic leaders are brainstorming how to get around Scott Brown’s election as the 41st Republican senator. But President Obama, Speaker Pelosi, and Senator Reid haven’t yet embraced the one course they need to take: Scrap the current bills and start over, with a bipartisan process that proceeds in broad daylight.

Instead, Democratic leaders are talking about scaling back their current bills and trying to pick off a few isolated Republicans without ever having invited the GOP to the table in any meaningful way. This might have worked a few months ago, but things have changed.

On the CBS Early Show, Sen. John McCain dismissed the notion of just downsizing Obamacare: “We are more than happy to sit down and start over,” McCain said. “Not scale back, but start over in a true negotiating process, rather than the Democrats going back to try to pick off one or two Republicans.’”

The Democrats need to face the music. Obamacare is more unpopular than ever. All the momentum is against its passage. And there are a surprisingly large number of congressional Democrats in Republican-leaning districts who are no doubt eager to put Obamacare in the rear-view mirror.

A smaller helping of Obamacare is still Obamacare, not a bipartisan offering of real reform. It’s time to start over.”

Ok, well lets see if our great R establishment cannot get suckered into some compulsary insurance scheme or “insurance reform” destruction package……or if they can keep their votes solid as much as they have hyped their doing so to date…..

McCain is correct (I dont get to say that often lol) – process needs to go back to square one, done in the open…..

The victims of RomneyCare are NOT pleased in MA:

    “Listen to America! [Grace-Marie Turner]

Scott Brown listened to the American people. Washington didn’t, and apparently still doesn’t want to hear what they are saying.

White House advisers are trying to convince themselves and the media that the Massachusetts election wasn’t about health reform, saying it wasn’t an issue there because Massachusetts already has enacted reform.

But that’s why it is such a big issue. Bay State voters are up close and personal with the kind of reform measures Washington has been devising. Their health costs continue to soar, they face mandates dictating what insurance they must have, and businesses and individuals are buried under onerous bureaucratic requirements and penalties. The Cato Institute has a new study out documenting this, validating findings from the Galen Institute’s study last summer.

A Massachusetts resident made it very clear to a local TV interviewer before the election that his vote was going to be about Obamacare: “If I decide that the health plan they’re working on in Washington is like what we have here, I’m voting for Brown,” a voter said. He went on to criticize the tyrannies of the Massachusetts plan — the forced purchase of expensive insurance, the tax penalties, etc.”

    Brandon

That article was timed to embrass me. not quite as its actually consistent with what I said. If the democrats cannot agree on a plan or agree on to reconcile what you is a permanment postponement of votes until later this year.

Then near the end of the session right before the election you bring a bill the GOP objects to it and Pelosi-Reid can say the GOP killed HC.

There’s some great stuff in that Politico article. Basically the democrats cannot agree on anything. The pitiful senate democrat moderates like Nelson and Landrieu have their payoffs and just want the house to pass it.

Have I bashed Obama in a while? He was AWOL last year during the HC debate basically taking every side but also not embracing anyone’s bill as his own. He and the DNC snoozed while MA was slipping away and woke up 10 days before when RAS’s poll came out.

Now what will he say next week? Unemployment is at 10% but he could be worst? HC is nearly dead but we are meeting on Friday to push a compromise between Reid-Pelosi and myself through?

“ObamaCare Push Highlights Senators’ Contempt for Constitution
(Read WP posts from Van Helsing) | (Read MT posts from Van Helsing)
The “public servants” who have been grinding the soles of their loafers into our faces as they usurp our liberties and spend the nation into bankruptcy are sworn to uphold the Constitution. Yet evidence accrues that they aren’t more than vaguely familiar with this “deeply flawed” document:

    • Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) doesn’t know “if there’s a specific constitutional provision” for health mandate.

    • Senator Bernie Sanders (Socialist-VT): Constitutional power to mandate health insurance is “probably” in the same place as Medicare.

    • Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH): Constitution gives Congress power to mandate health insurance in the “same place” as Medicare.

    • Senator Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) declines to say where Congress gets the constitutional authority to mandate health insurance.

    • Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO) doesn’t say where Congress gets the power to mandate health insurance, but cites auto insurance at the state level.

    • Senator Ben Nelson (D-NE): Constitutionally, Congress can “probably” mandate health insurance in the “same place” states can mandate car insurance.

    • Senator Mark Begich (D-AK) doesn’t say where Congress gets the authority to mandate purchasing health insurance.

    • Senator Diane Feinstein (D-CA): There is no limit on Congress’ power to mandate health insurance.

    • Senator Kent Conrad (D-ND) “assumes” Constitution’s Commerce Clause gives Congress power to mandate buying health insurance.

Our country is embodied in its Constitution — and the worst enemy it has ever faced is the gang of power-grabbing statists currently controlling the government. The struggle to push them back is only just beginning.”

So, when the death panels, er, Independent Government Advisory Board is denying people life saving services, how do you think government will act, and how many months/years/decades will it take? Host: Is the health care bill dead, simply put, if Scott Brown wins in Massachusetts today?

AG: No, no it’s not. The plan was always to plan the bill this month or next month. Nothing has really changed.

HH: All right, Mark Steyn, we’ve got Anthony Weiner saying dead, we’ve got Alan Grayson saying nothing’s changed, we’ve got Barney Frank muttering about the filibuster. What’s going to happen?

MS: Yeah, I think this is, I think a lot of them will conclude this is their moment. This is why I think this business came up late in the day of alleged irregularities, which sounds pathetic. The case was pathetic, but it may just be good enough to delay the seating of Scott Brown, and provide Democrats room to find some parliamentary maneuver to stuff this thing down the gullet of the United States. And I think Nancy Pelosi and Co. are still betting that it is in their long term interest to do so, notwithstanding what is happening in Massachusetts. And they’re now talking about this. I mean, what’s interesting is the Democrats, these partisan Democrats, Massachusetts is now redneck country. It’s now Mississippi. If you listen to the way they talk about the knuckle-dragging teabaggers and all the other stuff, these people who twenty minutes ago were like elite, East Coast liberals sipping their chardonnay and their decaf lattes, have now joined the swamp dwellers of the deep South in Democrat and elite media eyes.”

“Hillary Clinton offered a health care plan that required everyone to get insurance, while Barack Obama’s blueprint had no such mandate. That was about the only difference in their suggested solutions.

It was a big one, to hear Obama tell it. He aired a TV ad attacking Clinton because her scheme “forces everyone to buy insurance, even if you can’t afford it, and you pay a penalty if you don’t.”

He, by contrast, stressed that he would encourage more coverage by offering federal help in paying for it, while trusting in the ultimate wisdom of individual Americans to make their own decisions.

Voters had a clear choice, and they chose Obama and his voluntary plan over Clinton and her compulsory approach. That settled that.

Or so we thought. But something happened after Obama arrived in the Oval Office. His deep faith in the free decisions of ordinary people soon evaporated. Last summer, after the House included a mandate in its legislation, Obama suddenly had a change of heart.”

Tuesday night, with the victory of Republican Scott Brown, the revolutionary fires of Boston were reignited; the message is as clear Paul Revere’s. But will the forces of socialistic big government hear the message?

The Democratic Party turned the funeral of Sen. Ted Kennedy into a rally for big government and government-run healthcare. Their rallying cry became, “Do it for Teddy.” Now the U.S. Senate seat Kennedy controlled for nearly half a century has been turned over by the voters to Republican Scott Brown, who has pledged to fight much of the Kennedy agenda. Those pesky voters have messed things up again. Robert Gibbs described President Obama as “surprised and frustrated” and “not pleased.”

To date, they have provided ineffective resistance to the Obama agenda.

The final group with decisions to make is the Tea Party activists. Will Tea Party activists be accepted by the Republican Party as candidates, or will they become just a tool of the establishment similar to pro-life and social conservatives? To stay an independent and viable entity, they may in the future face battles with the Republican establishment in primaries and even in the battlefield of Congress. This would get the GOP plenty of publicity from the MSM on how the GOP is stopping health care reform (Crappycare, that’s for you Wylie). With the Dems letting this go the reconciliation route, health care would dominate the news cycle until Election Day in November. This is a gift the Dems are giving the GOP. Posted by Chris Moody

Yesterday, Cato released a new study, “The Massachusetts Health Plan: Much Pain, Little Gain,” which showed that official estimates overstate the gains in health insurance coverage resulting from a 2006 Massachusetts law by at least 45 percent. The study also finds: supporters understate the law’s cost by nearly 60 percent; government programs are crowding out private insurance; self-reported health improved for some but fell for others; and young adults are responding to the law by avoiding Massachusetts.

Given that the Massachusetts health plan bears a “remarkable resemblance” to the Obama plan, the study should serve as a warning sign to members of Congress, says Michael Cannon, director of health policy studies.

The study has received coverage in Investor’s Business Daily, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Detroit News, The Washington Times, the Reason Foundation and the Pioneer Institute.”

“Sorry, this is not a free country

    Randall Hoven

The United States is no longer “free.” That is not just a rant. That is an objective assessment based on an analysis of 10 economic factors in 183 countries.

The Heritage Foundation’s 2010 Index of Economic Freedom is out, and the US slipped out of the “free” category and into the “mostly free” category, a category shared with 22 other countries such as Macau, Cyprus, Georgia and Botswana. We are now behind seven other countries, including Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Switzerland and Canada. Yes, Canada.

Just behind us, in the top 10, are Denmark and Chile. The US scored 78.0 and Denmark scored 77.9. Denmark. We are virtually tied with Denmark.”

    Hey!

I do not play the banjo…or any instrument for that matter.

I rarely eat meat and never cute little possums.

I had a water pistol once but never a real gun.

I do have a mini Bible I carry in my brief case but I admit I rarely read it.

I own a 4-door luxury, gaz guzzling sedan but no pickup truck.

Irresponsible? Who me? OK…sometimes when I cheat my dog out of a full walk when its too cold or rainy.

Homophobic? Me? No way! I have nothing against effeminate men who wear lo-rise jeans and mid-rift shirts.

Racist…well, I am part latin and the non-latin part of me resents the hot blooded, passionate latin in me…can we say Sybil?

Reactionary…yes, that I am…especially against stupid politicians and PCness.

Sexist…me? uh-uh. Listen woman! Know your place!

Teabagging…only if it is green tea and decaf.

Supporters of violence against women? No way! Though I think every woman needs a good smackin’ around every now and then to keep her in place…ask Arlen.

Against politicians with whom you disagree…I disagree with almost all politicians! That is the point!

Republicans…not anymore…gave that up a few years back to be an Indy.

“Let’s condense. Progressives endlessly hype disproved fallacies, among them:

    •Human-caused “climate change.”
    •More guns, more crime.
•Handouts improve the plight of the poor.
•Raising taxes in a down economy doesn’t impede recovery.
    •More government, better government
•Incarcerating criminals doesn’t decrease crime; rehabilitation does.
•Playing nice-nice with violent scumbags pacifies them.
•Raising self-esteem begets achievement, not the other way around.
    •Life should be fair.

Progressivism is about embracing silliness to make a person feel good — reality be damned.”

Lets not get screwed into govt run HC by having RINOs agree with the socialists/D on “fixing popular insurance reforms only”:

“How many times have you seen a post saying basically this:

We don’t need health care reform, or ObamaCare! All we need is:
    1) Force insurers to cover pre-existing conditions
    2) Allow interstate purchase of insurance
    3) Tort reform
    4) Sensible reform of medical forms
…and so on and so on

I made this one up, but I keep seeing posts like this, and I have decided to break my vacation to make a point.

This is EXACTLY the wrong way to fight!

First, this admits there is a “crisis” and it needs to be fixed. That is a mistake. Most Americans have access to adequate or better health care and are satisfied. Most Americans who lack insurance still get care. We have no “health care crisis”! Yes, Medicare/Medicaid are in financial trouble, but that is a GOVERNMENT crisis, not a health care crisis.

But once you say “we just need to…” you give the ball to the Democrats, admitting there is a crisis means the only thing left to do is debate how to “fix” it, and, if there is a “crisis” the one offering bigger fixes will win the debate. And who offers bigger fixes than Democrats?”

dear #85 aka the Romney Troll.

Your boy is done, no one will back him after his disappearing act during the healthcare debate. Now run along Scooter, the adults are talking.

  164. lisab says:

basically the “romney troll” wants to take off the two evangelical Christians

he is correct of course, there is no way an evangelical Christian will win the northeast

however, romney cannot win the south

the most important thing is to not end up with another bob dole or john mccain. if the candidate is not a social conservative you have zero chance in 2012.

  165. bonncaruso says:

Note that in spite of trouble for the democrats in senate elections, Obama is still doing very, very well in 1 on 1 match-ups against possible and prominent GOP contenders.

FOX – arguably the most right wing leading network around, still shows Obama crushing all opponents in a 2012 hypothetical:

    2012 President
    Obama 47%, Romney 35% (Obama +12)
    Obama 55%, Palin 31% (Obama +24)
    Obama 53%, Gingrich 29% (Obama +24)
Obama 48%, Tea Party candidate 23% (Obama +25)

I personally found it silly and unserious of FOX to put up a “Tea Party candidate” for this implies a split in the GOP and the entrance of a large 3rd party candidate. Doubt it will happen.

But the congressional numbers are much closer (generic):

    38% Democrats, 37% Republicans

These are not the kind of polling numbers you would expect to see come from FOX. Of course, campaign 2012 is still 2 years away and wonders do happen.

But I wonder about lisab’s statement:

“if the candidate is not a social conservative you have zero chance in 2012.”

Are not both Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich extremely social conservative candidates? And Mitt Romney, he is fiscally conservative, but his record in MA shows him as anything but socially conservative. Why is he then doing the best of the 4 “GOP” candidates? Is it because republicans tend to nominate the guy who was next in line?

Is it really so that an evangelical cannot win the NE? Isn’t that a little like saying a black cannot win the south? Lisab, I would like to hear your reasoning about this.

Truth is, Obama keeps getting hit and he keeps getting up. Abd he, in his aloof and distant manner, is hardly doing anything to defend himself. Just imaging what will happen to his numbers when he starts to show passion and throws himself into the thick of it all.

Remember, Bill Clinton had a horrible Health Care reform fiasco in 1994, his lost the congress – got a whomping, and still came back to win by 8 points in 1996.

I ask myself if a GOP dark horse may just jump onto the scene starting in 2011. If Obama can go from being a state senator to being President 6 years later, perhaps something similar will happen within the ranks of the GOP. Perhaps Brown could become the GOP’s rising star. I mean this quite seriously. He pulled an upset that really caught me off guard. He is good looking, he speaks well, he will roar onto the senate stage like a lion in about 2 weeks….

  166. Diogenes says:

Those matchups are all with duds. Brown has shown the kind of Republican that can win.

Fiscally conservative. Foreign Policy Conservative. Social “moderate” (Roe v. Wade is settled, but against partial birth and for parental notification.).

I’d rather the socially “moderate” part come with the implicit guarantee we get more Alito’s and Roberts on the court. A lot of Republicans fit this mode. Dubya fit this mode basically until 9/11 happened and Karl Rove went nuclear using social issues.

I’d like Petraeus/Rubio or something of the like. No more blatantly socially conservative people. I’d see 16 years of uninterrupted white house rule with that ticket.

  167. bonncaruso says:

Yes, it appears that Rubio is also on trajectory in Florida, and would be a welcome face in the GOP, since it is having real trouble with hispanics.

Yes, Diogenes, you may see those GOP candidates as duds, and for all I know, maybe they are, but Sarah Palin is still taking in a lot of national attention. Don’t count her out for a presidential run in 2012.

Were Petraeus to run, then it would certainly harken back to the days of Eisenhower in a number of ways.

I agree with you assessment on Dubya. His tack on immigration reform as, imo, right, but his own party torpedoed him on that one.
