    McLaughlin works for Hayworth

The Senate primary fight between Arizona Sen. John McCain and former GOP Rep. J.D. Hayworth continued to heat up Friday, with both sides firing off dueling polling data.

Hayworth’s campaign released a polling memo Friday morning showing McCain leading Hayworth 49 to 33 percent among Arizona Republican primary voters. The poll also showed a plurality of primary voters – 49 percent – identifying McCain as a “moderate,” with 50 percent identifying Hayworth as a conservative.

“John McCain is vulnerable to a challenge by J.D. Hayworth in Arizona’s Republican primary election for U.S. Senate,” pollster John McLaughlin wrote in the polling memo. “His support on the ballot is below the 50% threshold for strong incumbents against J.D. Hayworth, and his moderate political views and Washington agenda are out of step with Arizona Republican primary voters.”

Not missing a beat, the McCain campaign responded by releasing a poll Friday afternoon showing McCain with a 59 percent to 30 percent lead over Hayworth. The Public Opinion Strategies survey also showed 82 percent of GOP primary voters in the state view McCain favorably. Hayworth’s favorability stands at 60 percent.

“Senator John McCain continues to enjoy broad support across Arizona,” McCain campaign manager Shiree Verdone said in an e-mail. “[He] is confident the voters of Arizona will again return him to office as they have done in the past and he is working hard to earn their continued support. “

A Rasmussen Reports survey conducted earlier this month found McCain leading Hayworth by a 53 percent to 31 percent margin.

HC discussion is on to the bizarre stage. Pelosi has acknowledged that the senate still does not have the votes to pass the house. Even talking about that idea is a no good.

Yet if the senate would pass the fixes to the house bill-either on a straight up and down vote or through reconciliation then the fixes and the orgiinal senate bill could pass the house. She believes that could happen. Of course no qutte agrees on what changes need to be made. In addition the senate is in no mood to go into WWIII mode over reconciliation over HC fixes that might not even pass the house.

Pelosi-Reid cannot stick a fork in HC and call it down. That would further deflate the left but let’s get real there is no yellow brick road in DC. Kansas is a long from DC and HC is looking dead.

Obama is in a similar fantasy island thinking on Cap & Trade. In NH today he suggested doing the easy stuff in the Cap & Trade bill. He wants to do the “incentivizing clean energy” thingy. My wording is akward but he wants to charge consumers more for their coal power so that green power can be developed. He wants to the Cap & Trade part of energy-which he perceives as popular-but save the issues of oil & gas exploration on a latter day. Golly he does not get it.

Obama took down Corzine (with enough help from the dodo himself), Deds and Coakley.

He will take down Bayh, Boxer, Feingold and Murray in November.

The guy is an incompetent dufus.

Rdel, our favorite Liberal, Lawrence O’Donnell, says that Health Care is dead and it is all a sham by Pelosi to appease her base.

  7. Jason T says:

I agree Sam. After the MASS election Clinton would have moved to the center. Obama is a marxist, that simple.

We all knew this in 2008, but Bush’s popularity allowed this clown to win.

Good thing is that Obama will never have control of the Senate again

  8. Gary Maxwell says:

Up 15% with only 9% undecided. This rodeo is over, Perry rode the bull for the full eight.

  9. Apologetic California says:

Isn’t Hutchinson leaving early this year? Is that dependent on whether she gets nominated, or is this year it?

  10. AuH2ORepublican says:

Perry’s lead is fine and dandy, but he needs 50%+1 to avoid a run-off. While the last thing I’d want is for KBH to get a second bite at the apple, if making the run-off will give KBH the motivation she needs to resign her Senate seat than I’m all for it.

  11. Gary Maxwell says:

With 44 % already, I give him about even odds of doing that. I have contended for some time that I dont know where Medina support is coming from. Total unknown in North Texas, I think she is from the Hill Country which is not a large power base. I think she struggles when voters are in the booth, and that will run to Rick benefit as well.

  12. Brandon says:

#9. I would think she would stay in the Senate if she loses the Primary.

  13. Apologetic California says:

12, well I was hoping she leaves this year no matter what. Perry would appoint her successor, which is probably the black Railroad Commissioner.

  14. Apologetic California says:

Which by the way, would make the railroad commissioner the only AA in the Senate next year, and the first since Reconstruction to come from the Deep South.

  15. rdelbov says:

    Jason T

    thanks for the link.

  16. Phil says:

Medina has maxed out. She has no money for the next 4 wks.

As far as a runoff, Medina is to the right of Perry. The majority of her support would go to Perry.

This baby is all but over.

KBH has spent millions – for zero results. Another indication of the trouble she is in? She gave a speech to the Texas Farm Bureau the other day and kept emphasizing how she needed everyone to “get five people who don’t normally vote in the Republican primary” Translated? “I need Democrats” and she’s all but openly saying that.

She says she will be resigning win or lose.

She WILL lose and I called this one months ago.

My wife and I are going to here Palin speak in Houston for Perry. Good luck Kay, in whatever you choose to do with your future.

  17. Phil says:

    hear

  18. Tommy_Boy says:

    Phil,

Any guesses as to the crowd? Perry claims 8-10,000. That sounds like a lot for Super Bowl Sunday.

  19. MD says:

When all is said and done, I see Perry at 52 to 54. A good, solid win. I still don’t know what KBH was thinking. Perry has been an effective and fairly popular governor. TX is the one state that has held up well.

    Very strange.

  20. Phil says:

    Tommy, bigger than that.

  21. MD says:

    Phil,

I am still saddened by Palin’s support for Paul. I really can’t suppor her anymore.

    Still, I can support Perry!

  22. Phil says:

Extremely strange MD. I never understood it either. Nobody does.

Perry will then go on to punk Bill White in the general by 10 or 12.

KBH never had an answer for Republicans who asked the question “why should we change?” Her answer seemed to be “because I want to be governor”

    Not good enough Kay.

  23. BPL in Scottsdale says:

21 – Then don’t, MD. You were never with her in the 1st place then.

    That comment was classic concern-troll.

  24. Phil says:

    MD,

I’m sick about it also. I just don’t get it.

  25. BPL in Scottsdale says:

Everybody enjoy their “Palin is a sellout for endorsing Rand Paul” circle-jerk. Just be sure to clean up afterwards. The maid doesn’t come in until Thursday.

  26. Benny says:

    MD I dont understand you!!!!

  27. MD says:

    BPL,

Nothing personal pal but I have been around her a lot longer than you and have been a fervant supporter of Palins.

I simply cannot support someone who will help legitimize an anti-semitic bigot.

As for your troll comment, that is laughable.

  28. Benny says:

She is not totally agree with him

and his position on 9/11 is not totally wrong!

I am not agree with her in her pro-life opinion but I lover her much

there will never be someone you are totally agree

  29. Charles says:

Palin has said she has disagreements with Paul. ie she doesn’t agree with him on the military, worldview, etc…

And again why she’s supporting is simple. Look at what the GOP is doing under Steele. Look at the narrative the beltway people are shaping.

They want their Mittens and they’re hell bent on cramming him down the voter’s throat as the guy that can fix the country after Skippy broke it.

Stop paying attention to Paul, he’s irrelevant in all this. Start paying attention to the bigger game going on outside of this race. The GOP Civil War is ongoing, this is merely the latest exchange.

  30. BRENT says:

charles, you are absolutely correct, the republican establishment is broken and needs to be completely redone before she can rise again
palin is beginning the purge and will continue to do so until the republican party can govern properly

  31. BPL in Scottsdale says:

MD – You cannot tell me your support for Sarah Palin was so fragile that you would dump her (Did she not accept your invite to dinner or soemthing?) for endorsing, with slight reservations, a guy you have never met, nor HEARD OR READ FOR YOURSELF any racist-blah-blah-blah comments from, without hearing the reasons for which she made the endorsement. if so, you will be disappointed by every politicain for the rest of your life. No one will appease you 100%.

Hope your sig-other knows how weak-kneed your support can be. If so, he/she should just turn in the keys to your crib right now.

  32. Wes says:

I have to defend MD on this one: You guys disagree with him, so all of a sudden he becomes a fragile troll? Seriously, guys, he has his convictions, and Palin’s support of Paul caused him to be disillusioned with her. Give him a break. Ay Dios Mio.

  33. Wes says:

Charles, when exactly did Palin say those in particular werfe the disagreements she had with Paul? I may be missing something, but I don’t recall her being any more specific than just syaing she didn’t agree with him. Without a concrete statement as to what she disagree with him on, that seems like a rather vague statement to me.

  34. Charles says:

Its in her original statement Wes, she says “we agree to disagree but then agree”, though she doesn’t state specifics, its not hard to figure out what she’s talking about, given her positions vs his.
