LA: New Orleans Mayoral Election Primary

Okay, back to politics. Despite the blizzard-like conditions in the Mid-Atlantic, Louisiana held elections today for a variety of races. The marquee match up concerns the primary race in New Orleans to see who replace the failed Mayor Ray Nagin. The polls have now closed.

The official election results can be found here at the Louisiana Secretary of State website for the mayoral primary.

Just listened to Sarah Palin’s speech to the Tea Party Convention.

    She said:

“In this time of war, we need a real Commander in Chief and not a law school professor reading from a teleprompter.”

  7. Marv says:

“Treating this like a mere law enforcement matter places our country at grave risk, because that’s not how radical Islamic are looking at this, they know we are at war and to win that war, we need commander-in-chief not a professor of law standing at the lectern. It is that same kind of misguided thinking that is seen throughout the Adm. foreign policy decisions, our President spent a year reaching out to hostile regimes, writing personal letters to dangerous dictators and apologizing for American”

“How’s that hopey, changing stuff working out for you?”

Every R candidate should use that at least once in every speech…..

““How’s that hopey, changing stuff working out for you?””

it is working pretty good for many dem supporters.

they really do not understand why you are so selfish you won’t pay them more for foodstamps, public housing, welfare etc.

you guys have tons of money, why won’t you just pay them more and share a little?

  16. Jan says:

Palin’s speech was good and honestly delivered. She covered the bases that are near and dear to most of the Tea Party people, quoting and referencing Ronald Reagan as she went along.

IMO she seems to be distinguishing herself as less of a partisan and more of a principled person, willing to support those who believe in the basics of her philosophy, not necessarily all the fringe details, though. This seemed to address the McCain/Rand Paul endorsement issue.

She also directed comments to the Convention’s recent conflicts, saying that they should not get caught up in petty arguments, but keep their focus on the main issues (which I think was a prudent comment to make).

  17. Tommy_Boy says:

    Okay…just watched it twice.

I hated it the first time I saw it.

But the second time won me over. I thought going without a teleprompter was better for her. It really looked like she was just speaking off the cuff.

  18. Snake Pliskin says:

Okay-i just watched it for the 9th time. I think her breathing was sound, her pulse rate throughout was in a nominal range, and her inflection flowed through the convention with no apprehension and maximum retention. The acoustics seemed a bit at odds with the tone of the convivial chit-chat,,,alright,,,I didn’t watch it,,,but only cuz I’m a snake people! This stuff is just not as exciting to me as baking in the sun on top of a hot rock with a rat moving through my digestive system.

    “Posted by Michael F. Cannon

“Father of the Individual Mandate” Mitt Romney
The former nickname came from National Journal or The Wall Street Journal, I’m not sure which. The latter nickname comes from Institute for Health Freedom president Sue Blevins.

See here for details on an upcoming event in Dallas where Goodman’s National Center for Policy Analysis will play host to Romney.

It should be an interesting event. With all 40 Republican members of the U.S. Senate, including moderates like Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-ME), voting to declare an individual mandate unconstitutional…with 35 states moving legislation to block an individual mandate…with the Heritage Foundation rebuking an individual mandate…and with Virginia’s Democratically controlled Senate approving legislation to block an individual mandate…well, Romney may have a tough road to hoe with the conservatives who typically attend NPCA events.”

Compulsary Health Insurance IS GOVERNMENT RUN HC!

Romney is unrepentenat about his bad deal with the leftist/democrats – it has lead to the State government running HC because the state now dictates what insurance everyone MUST have, how much it will cost, what it will cover, and now has thousand of new medical welfare dependednts via subsides….

Taxes and insurance premiums are soaring at doubel the national average….

The number of Medicare welfare case in MA has doubled….

Their is NO reduction in costs for “free riders” since people evade the insurance mandate by paying the small fine….

And the state of MA is now rationing care paid for by both the state and private insurance (since they specifiy what is covered for insurance)…..

Governement MUST absoulutely stay out of Medical Care and health insurance – period, no exceptions!

Romney recently claimed on the L. Ingram show that his sucker deal with the Democrats was “conservative” and encouraged “personal responsibility”……

    What a crock of crap!

Their is nothing “conservative” about letting the government takeover and run medical care and health insruance!

Nor is their anything remotely close to real “personal responsibility” when you take away everyone choice/freedom/liberty and use government FORCE to impose your personal bais on everyone!

Kudos to the Patriots in the state of VA who will likely soon BAN COMPULSARY INSURANCE!

Freedom and Liberty MUST reign in medical care and health insurance!

Not much of a hardcore Palin fan. She struck all the right notes given the audience but I found it one-note just like her speech at the RNC.

That is however a personal preference as I don’t really watch any conservative shows anyways (that don’t include some sort of hard news) as I tend to agree with everything and fall asleep.

Sigh…Wilye refuses to learn. All we did was beat Obamacare, so naturally he still must subject us to his Victor Hugo-like longwinded posts.

  26. Wes says:

I’ve never been enamored of Palin, and I didn’t watch the speech. From the discussion by those who did watch it though, I gather she probably shored up her base but made no new converts. With that, it’s off to the gym.
