2012: Huckabee Leads GOP Field In Iowa
No time like the present to look ahead to the 2012 Presidential Election and the Iowa Caucuses. A polling firm Right Way Marketing did a poll for the website Rightosphere that shows Mike Huckabee leading the Republican field among likely voters.
PRESIDENT – IOWA – GOP CAUCUS (Right Way Marketing)
Mike Huckabee 21%
Mitt Romney 14%
Sarah Palin 12%
Tim Pawlenty 1%
Gary Johnson 0%
This poll was done March 2-4 among 223 likely caucus goers. I’ve never heard of this group Right Way Marketing. They have a website, but there is nothing but a single page.

No surprise here from Iowa-way too soon.
Okay Pelosi-Reid & their minions meet today to finalize HC recon bill.
They will give out details to leadership then afternoon. Then the hosue caucus will meet tonight to hear about the plan.
The plan will not be released but will be sent to CBO to be scored. This may take a week or more. That’s why the 03-18-2010 deadline is fantasy.
No senate meetings are planned on the bill. Wonder why
None of those clowns are viable.
http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/85697-hoyer-pushes-back-at-white-house-for-march-18-healthcare-deadline?page=2#comments
Mnw cited this earlier.
Rdel, hmmmmmmm. I wonder how long it will take the CBO to score this. Two weeks would put it at March 23. It could take longer.
Rdel, they have got to be even more stupid if they are going to try to go the recon route. That’s just foolish.
MD, does your netbook have one of those push in Battery strips that snaps in?
I have an ACER that has that. If so pull that Battery out and snap it back in and charge it.
Hi Mark.
Rdel, the CBO has not been our friend lately. They must have showers there too. Rahm Norman Bates
Phoenix they will score quickly with Rahm watching
Ay Dios Mio…This early does nayone really care?
Rdel, who would be your pick for the 2012 GOP presidential nod assuming Palin, Thune, Huckabee, Romney, Pawlenty, and Pataki run?
If Pawlenty cannot get more than 1% from a neighboring state…
Wes, I like Daniels or Thune I love Palin but do not think she will run
I’ve never been entirely sold on Palin’s national viability, Jason. Personally I think she’s more likely to continue making money than to go back into politics. Of the possibles mentioned for 2012, Thune is definitely my guy. As an aside: I hate when talking heads ask politicians about presidential ambitions two years form now. Everyone knows no politician is going to announce something like without a grand ceremony being planned in advance, so why bother?
I hope Huckabee stays out of it, I get a little tired of listening to him.
Wes,
What about Mitch Daniels?
Agreed, Marv. If you added the nearest 25 galactic clusters together, they’d still be only about 1% the size of Huckabee’s ego.
As long SD re-elects a GOP governor in 2010 Wes.
Obviously if Thune were to win the POTUS we would give up his seat though.
That was the name I was forgetting in my list, Marv. I could definitely support him. From what I’ve heard, he seems uninterested in politics after his current term expires though.
Pawlenty is boorring and ignorant. In a recent Newsweek interview, Pawlenty said:
“Well, you know I’m an evangelical Christian. I believe that God created everything and that he is who he says he was. The Bible says that he created man and woman; it doesn’t say that he created an amoeba and then they evolved into man and woman. “
The last thing the GOP needs is nominee that displays such ignorance.
I have a strong negative preference for anybody who ran last time, including Palin & Pawlenty. I agee with JT. Let’s try the new guys.
I don’t think there’s much chance a Dem is going to win Thune’s seat this year, Jason. The Dems haven’t been able to win the seat since 1974 in their best years. It’s unlikely they’d win it in one of their worst years.
Rick Perry?
Daniels is impressive. White House and Budget experience, two term governor of a swing state and swing Region. He is term limited, so we do not lose a seat.
The US isn’t going to elect another Texas Governor to be President this close to George Bush’s tenure in office, Marv.
Perry is too soon after Bush, Marv. But if the economy still sucks, why not.
A governor can run from the outside against Obama. Thune is a insider
He is, Jason. Again, most think he retires altogether from politics upon the expiration of his current term though.
What is this lady smoking? More to the point, if the Dems are wanting to go the ’staple the two bills with the Senate passing first via reconcilation then the House” is just flat out silly. http://hotair.com/archives/2010/03/09/pelosi-we-need-to-pass-obamacare-so-that-the-public-can-find-out-whats-in-the-bill/
Harkin says all this could get done by the 27th. Sure. Even with Biden trying to overrule the parliamentarian on GOP amendments, points of order and prodedural tactics like amendment reading, sure Tom that will work. I still say Pelosi is trying to pass the Senate bill. Technically it is the only way to get something done before the Easter recess. If Obama/Pelosi/Reid come out with this two bill strategy, it definitely says that Stupak and his coalition are holding all the cards here. Even if Stupak and the coalition turns, Phil is right. Hill, Ellsworth and Pomeroy will be the key. I smell Pelosi losing the House here.
Soros Trade is down to 55% after a high near 70% today.
Bush looks pretty good compared to Obama.
“Miss Me Yet?”
Wes,
Who’s your second choice behind thune assuming palin, romney, johnson, pawlenty, huckabee, and barbour are the other choices?
Does the VA Lt.Gov become Gov in the event the sitting Gov vacates the office?
Boy how quickly Bobby Jindal has faded from the lists.
Daniels has a lot of paper credentials, but he seems to have the charisma of a milk bottle. How quick and sharp witted is he? We need someone who can make Obama look like Carter in the debates.
Phoenix, the Senate bill has to be passed as is, or Marxist Care is dead.
I think what is happening is that Stupak is getting chewed out by the Bishops at this point. The Church wants a new Senate Bill with no Abortion funding, not a flimsy promise from Pelosi and Obama.
Stupak is a patsy, and dumb as a post from what I hear. He will not budge without the Church but is a liberal and wants to vote Yes.
The Church got burned once by Reid and Nelson, and will not get duped again.
I think that in 2012, the electorate will opt for substance over style. Obama is likely a one-termer.
Yes, Marv. that was a big issue when Kaine was on Obama’s short list for VP
Jindal was embarrased by Mary Landrieu and her Whore deals.
Bobby was timid with her and did not go after her for the La Purchase
http://corner.nationalreview.com
Stupak says no deal. No separate Amendments on abortion
Gary who?
28 – Not sure even with all his time there that Tom understands the Senate, or much of anything else in the world.
gag me with a freakin spoon
Rep. Bart Stupak (D., Mich.) talked with John McCormack at The Weekly Standard today, and put it bluntly: there is no compromise and there is no deal. “If I didn’t” cave in November,” Stupak told McCormack, “why would I do it now after all the crap I’ve been through?”

I read the whole Stupak article to which you linked. Thanx, btw.
I would summarize what Stupak said differently: “No Deal Yet. ‘Tie-Bar’ Is Necessary For Deal”
A “tie-bar” refers to a tow hitch on a car. He’s saying the vote in the House & the fix in the Senate must be simultaneous, in other words. He also says he’s still “optimistic” about passing HC.
Stupak’s 15 minutes of fame are surely near an end, aren’t they? Please?
“Stupak affirmed that he will not settle for an agreement to pass the bill now and fix the bill’s problems on abortion later: “If they say ‘we’ll give you a letter saying we’ll take care of this later,’ that’s not acceptable because later never comes.”

Mrs.Piggy: Chit, maybe he’s not as stupid as he looks after all?
223 likely caucus goers? What is that, a MOE of 10%?
Rick Perry?
Some say that he decided to run again as governor because he has national ambitions. Either POTUS or VP.
I do not trust Stupak, but at least he is saying what the Bishops are thinking.
Stupak will not vote AYE without the Church support
DQ – “and error occured” trying to play the video
Boy how quickly Bobby Jindal has faded from the lists.
Proof positive that one hostage like tape can end your political career.
None of those would be my first choice, I like Pawlenty but don’t know if he has enough charisma to win. I would like to see a fresh face like Thune or Daniels. I think Perry has the “another Texas Governor” baggage and his quasi-secession speeches to contend with. And while he is not popular here I could see Romney as President.
Gary who?
I am sure that Bunu will be able to fill you in on Gary.
Romeny is toast. Even if he gets the nomination, he won’t win against Obama.
Jindal’s career had not ended, I bet he still goes a long way in politics, he is a very smart guy.
53 – It wasn’t quite that bad, but that line was a least laugh out loud funny.
DQ
Thanx for the link to ‘Yamamoto death info.’ As I’m sure U know, there was some reference there to “suspicions they tidied him up.”
Boyington’s MOH was kept secret because he was a POW, & it was thought that the MOH might be hazardous to his health. Thus the public announcement of the MOH was delayed.
I had remembered (or misremembered) that O’Kane was identically situated. Upon further review, I don’t think O’Kane was approved for the MOH until after his release. I’m pretty sure the 2 men were in the same POW camp, however.
“Romeny is toast. Even if he gets the nomination, he won’t win against Obama.”
Yeah, you know that 3 years before the election, right? Typical statement that can back to bite you in the ass.
com back and bite…
I know who he is, it was meant as “why was he included in this pointless poll? But of course that question anwsers itself.
I think that we need two white conservative protestant males as our President and Vice President, preferably from the deep south.
(I just want to see the anguish on the face of the talking heads on MSNBC when they have to make the call Nov 2.)
60: Put that one down in the book for later.
Wes
My 1st choice is John Thune.
I am a big geography guy. Thune is midwest guy. Not counting Dole/Kemp ticket plus Quayle the face of the GOP has been from CA-TX or the west. Does the GOP not have any midwestern types or N/E types. That’s why I wanted Pawlenty for VP in 2008.
So Thune is a Midwestern guy.
Super bright, looks great and is articulate.
psst-don’t tell anyone but he is also a devout Christian. He is super okay with us social conservative types.
That being said, as I have said over and over again, social conservatives like Thune do not have to run on social conservtive issues. Look at McDonnell. When you graduate from Pat Robertson U. you don’t have to flash your conservative resume.
jason
did you see Romney on FNS trying to explain how Romneycare is different from Obamacare? Again, he is toast.
I think Mitch Daniels will be a strong contender. He does have charisma… it is not rah rah charisma. It is “this is business” charisma. His wit is dry and biting, but not crankly like Dole. He is the perfect anti-Obama.
America will be ready for a serious business friendly President like Mitch Daniels after four years of the incompetent leftwing college professor.
I have a hunch he wants to do it, but is real worried about what a run would do to his family. His wife would be against a run as of now I would think, so she would need to be persuaded. He had to persuade her to allow a run for Governor. So he has been successful before.
Mitch would have a lot of $upport… believe me.
Thune\Barbour ticket?
psst-don’t tell anyone but he is also a devout Christian.
I guess non-Christians are not welcomed in the GOP.
McDonnell ran away from his social conservative resume. I lost count of how many times he said “Working women”.
67 – Need people would know it’s going to be a knock down drag out dirty fight, I’d advise anyone interested in 2012 of that, any ‘rules’ are sure to be out the window.
I like Barbour. He is very capable and we need people who can actually fix our problems.
70 – McDonnell did no such thing, he simply didn’t run his campaign based ON it.
corrected, this should work

He couldn’t repudiate his thesis enough. His commercials will filled with “working women”. If the campaign last longer, he would have been on TV french kissing Andrew Sullivan.
I like Barbour. He is very capable and we need people who can actually fix our problems.

Most “problems” are caused by politicians in the first place, leave us alone to fix our own problems. If you want to live in a nanny state, move to sweden.
RAS: HC bill poll
80%: Cost more then stated
66%: Will significantly increase deficit
57: Hurt economy
Nobody believes you Obama, but by all means keep going on TV and effectively lying to all those watching on one point or another to the public.
But would he have blown Andy Sullivan? That would really have been abandoning his thesis, no?
This debate is old and tired.
FWIW, “My Man Mitch” is my man for ‘12. I’m just worried that he’s only humouring the party and is not at all interested.
You said: “McDonnell ran away from his social conservative resume.”
You lie.
“This debate is old and tired.’
—
Indeed.
78 – We’ll see, he’s got a year or so to figure it out.
Jindal hurt himself badly by pulling a Steele and spending the GOP’s rebuttal to Obama’s first big speech talking about how the “GOP failed.” And he’s having to make painful decisions in Louisiana that will not endear him to his home state or the conservative base.
I read the Stupak note at NRO. Congressmen Stupak is hanging tough. What can I say. I predicted it. Stupak has hung tough on Abortion before and apparently he will do it again.
Did anyone read the full Stupak article? Yup house members know there is no Obama “fix” bill yet to read. They think Pelosi is gaming them. They have had 6 weeks to produce a bill and nothing has shown up. Here’s Stupak’s quote “the white house is trying to get them to vote for a bill no one has seen”
Now Stupak did say there the leadership is explaining some weird legislative options. There are some weird suggestions out there.
The good news is that there is no quick fix. Stupak is not folding to make it easy for the democrats.
I don’t know what the CBO needs to score. I think a week would be the least amount of time. No one does.
82 – You mean governing ain’t easy?

Wow. Stupak says no deal on seperate bill issue. The only way Pelosi and Reid can go now (assuming Stupak holds here) is that they have to go the two bill staple route. Chances of something getting passed before Easter? Less than 10%.
We really need to stop referring it as a ’score’, a score at the end of the game is final and acurate.
CBO provides their GUESSTIMATE, some times it’s close, sometimes it’s hundreds of billions+ off.
#76
You are beyond tedious. At the very least politicians need to reform taxation, regulation, etc. before we can fix our own problems.
85 – LOL
McDonnell make it clear that he no longer agreed with his thesis. He ran away from his own words.
J-Lo had the best Oscar dress period.
Knighthawk
as I said over and over again last fall. McDonnell had no need to run away or toward social conservative issues. He ran on the issues of jobs, taxes, government spending and “I am not a democrat” issues.
McDonnell had absolute pristine social conservative creed and that part of Virginia was 100% committed to voting for him. He showed that he was conservative as AG plus look at his resume. He was military and Regent U.
The Washington Post and Deeds brought up all the social issues. McDonnell simply knocked them down one by one.
The fact he was a Christian and went to a Christian school was an issue for others-not McDonnell. Same with Thune. Some smart guy will discover that Biola U (where Thune went) actually is not an African college but stands for “Bible Institute of Los Angeles”.
Huckabee as GOP Presidential Candidate = 4 more years of President Obama
To “score” is also a reference to “getting to home plate” with your girlfriend.Perhaps the GAO is referring to what will happen to the taxpayer if this thing passes. They will be “scored” against by the congressional criminals.
lisab did you watch the video in the sidebar to the article?
LisaB
I was on the interstate today. I cannot tell you how many white pick up trucks or white delivery trucks on the road today.
Several of these pickup trucks were also clearly being used in business -yard or construction.
is there racism in the Truck market?
People are buying white trucks because they imply honesty?
“Now Stupak did say there the leadership is explaining some weird legislative options.”
Here’s one of them from “Politico”:
“Party leaders have discussed the possibility of using the House Rules Committee to avoid an actual vote on the Senate’s bill, according to leadership aides. They would do this by writing what’s called a “self-executing rule,” meaning the Senate bill would be attached to a package of fixes being negotiated between the two chambers — without an actual vote on the Senate’s legislation.
Under this scenario, the Senate bill would be automatically attached to the reconciliation package, if the House passes reconciliation. In other words, Bill A would just become part of Bill B if the House passes Bill B, and the Senate could then vote on a reconciliation package before sending it to the president. This allows House members to approve the broader measure without actually voting on it.”
1. Stupak will ultimately cave in with or without support from the Bishops
2. CBO will as expected give a good report and then the standard claim will be we can only score what we have before us. This is “lie as you go” approach. The last few months have blown any confidence I had on the dept. of labor or CBO.
3. This cannot be done before 3/18.
4. If they seriously go the recon route I believe it will be tough to pass and then one can in retrospect conclude this was all a game for the left.
.If you want to live in a nanny state, move to sweden.

Don’t be silly. She wants to bring the nanny state here.
90 Keep repeating that to yourself if it pleases you, your probably the only one that believes “he ran away from his social conservative resume”.
92 – I know you did, as did plenty during the election time frame, cheks comment was so tired and absurd I was surprised she brought it up yet again, then again I really shouldn’t be surprised. Hey remember when she said the Wapo thesis thing was gonna be like macacca all over again? Good laughs.
Didn’t know that tidbit about Thune’s school though, thanks.
You are beyond tedious. At the very least politicians need to reform taxation, regulation, etc. before we can fix our own problems.

Problems caused by the same people that created them in the first place.
(calling me tedious is the height of chutzpa)
94 – interesting way of looking at it.
97 – So they are just going create procedures out of thin air for this? Has such been defined or used before? Sounds suspect.. but if they attach anything to it still have a senate recon problem.
98 – haha PAY-GO == LIE-GO

I might add that I can never recall this ever being done on a major piece of legislation.

Check the link in post 74 if you haven’t already one so.
97 – That is the most convoluted, disjointed, blatantly undemocratic cram down you could possibly imagine.
Not only are they going to approve a hugely unpopular, totally 100% partisan nationalization of 1/6th of the American economy against the will of the American people, they are going to invent a process that is clearly unprecedented and clearly skirts its way around the traditional legislative process.
Unbelievable.
There is not a poll out there showing this bill with a majority or even a plurality of public support. Tyranny is when a government intentionally forces its will against the clear will of the people. There is no doubt this is EXACTLY what is happening.

Romney won the Iowa Straw poll with 5000 votes last time. The great thing about the Iowa Straw poll is there is 6 months before the caucus. If you win it, you put get 6 months of coverage.
GWB won in 1999 at it propelled him to the presidency. However, GHW won the straw poll in 1980 but Reagan won the nomination. Pat Robertson won the Poll in 1988 lost the nomination to G. H. W. Bush. Mitt Romney won the Poll in 2008 but John McCain won the GOP nomination.
Paul MUST win the Iowa Straw poll. Normally winning something like this is not essential for a candidate to get to the WH, but because the media tends to be dismissive of Paul, winning a credible event is more important in his case.
I think he can do it.
105. You’re right on the money, Charles. Y’all can pick a no-charism peanut-butter-on-white-sandwich-washed-down-with-skim-milk establishment type like Tim Pawlenty-boring, John Thune (sorry Wes, but he has no chance), or Mitch Daniels & suffer another Dole/McCain-type defeat, or hop the winning train known as the ‘Cuda Express, the only one that can match the Obumbler $ for $ & can expand the playing field to areas untapped by the conventional GOP. Or just pick Mitt or Huckabilly & watch their religion become the central focus of the general election. Continue to let the LSM pick our nominees & these are the results you get. It’s up to you, people.

Ron Paul is done at the national level
How old will he be in 2012…???
119. Still babbling about L Ron Paul are we? Please remove the tin foil hat. You just look ridiculous.
“I am sure that Bunu will be able to fill you in on Gary.”
Chekote, I tend to agree with you that he’s got a dull personality. I’m not particularly excited about him. He would probably be a reasonable president though.
Johnson has the best record as governor, but for some reason he’s hard to get excited about.
Also, he is not in touch with the pro-life base in Iowa as Ron Paul is. Ron Paul had Jane Roe in his commercials. He also Forbes vote and the fiscal conservatives lined up as well as Gun Owners of America.
Paul is just a better candidate even though he’s older.
MFG says…
“Ron Paul is done at the national level
How old will he be in 2012…???”
You really believe that? Paul kept about 10 million of his war chest for the C4L. How do you think he won CPAC.
He drew 10,000 to Minneapolis just to hear him speak at a counter convention to McCain’s. He needs a little more than half that to have a good shot at the Iowa Straw poll.
The thing about the Iowa straw poll is you need a base line investment…say 200K, but after that you get diminishing returns for your dollar. You could invest 20 million, but Guiliani still won’t win. However, you do need some investment as a baseline.
After that it’s a grassroots project. This is the kind of event that Paul EXCELS at.
If Paul does not win the Iowa Straw poll, then you can write him of in 2012.
But if he does, then don’t count him out.
120 – Little early to be completely calling the results of a game not played till 2012, couple life times in politics left yet to go before people even chose to run or not.

I’m fine running Ron Paul again though.
Looks like your boy Rand will win in KY though
BPL.. for the last time. S H E Q U I T !! S H E Q U I T !!! If she couldn’t take the heat in Alaska, she sure as hell wouldn’t last in DC. She is the female equivalent of Dan Quayle, and doesn’t have a snowballs chance in hades of getting the nomination, let alone the presidency. Take off your cheerleader skirt and get real- we can’t piss away our shot to take back the white house in 2012.
MFG,
Look at intrade on KY. There is reasonably good odds on Rand winning in Kentucky.
Rdelbov seems to think otherwise though.
Ron Paul?
Not that again.
If the economy sucks any R will win
If the economy is good any R will lose
That simple
“So and so can’t win” just isn’t true
Palin-Captain Wonderful matchup and unemployment is at 9%? Obama will be toast
KY is pretty strongly R and 2010 will be a disastrous year for the Communists
I would assume Rand Paul will win fairly easily
Intrade 70% R to win in KY
Looks about right to me
“I think if this POS bill passes we’ll have civil unrest and the beginnings of a serious secession movement in the country”
no chance
None at all?
Yeah, just lay back and enjoy the screwing.
rdel,
As usual, I take the opposite from what Stupak said today from what you took.
1) He’s still “optimistic” 2) He’s still for HC & “thinks it will get done” 3) While he won’t accept a “promise from the Senate DEMs,” he WILL accept a “tie-bar.”
Tie-bar = Stupack votes “yes.”
How good is that?
The South is very close to developing a significant secessionist sentiment

Paul might be back in Louisiana next month by the looks of it. Maybe he will defeat Jindal there.
Bunu,
I think Palin is looking prety good for the SRLC. 400-500 won’t be enough for Paul.
Do you know if that Sarah Pac bought tickets for it?
LOL!
Jindal can’t be beat in LA

#146 No, it hasn’t.

SRLC is in April in New Orleans. Google it. Only Paul has not been officially invited yet or perhaps hasn’t officially accepted yet. Well he’s not on their schedule as of yet. SRLC, unofficially gave him an invite this last week.
So Ron Paul is still working out the details of whether he he will be there or not.

Stupak has taken away all the good options for Hoyer & Pelosi. As I said the other day its very easy for Hoyer-Pelosi-Reid-Obama to appease Stupak. They have to carry this snowball across the flowing lava without having any ice melting.
1. With Stupak taking a pig in a poke they either have to start over again and pass a new bill-can’t Brown 41.
2. Amend the senate bill in ping pong fashion-can’t Brown 41
3. Or pass some sort of oddly convoluted self enacting shell scam bill. Stupak believes that the house & senate will pass some sort of trick bill-as described in some one of the posts-to enact HC to avoid a filibuster in the senate. I do not see how that can be done. Reconciliation may be one thing but Stupak is policy.
Stupak is asking for the impossible for Hoyer & Pelosi to acheive. They know it.
Here’s the subtle point of Stupak and I think its easy to miss. It should be easy to do what Stupak wants as the democrats have large majorities. They have 59 votes in the senate and they should be able to pass HC. The Have 255 democrats in the house. They should be able to pass HC.
All Stupak is saying is that Abortion should never have been in HC. He begged them not to put it in there. Now just fix it. Until they do he will not vote for it. Basically he’s saying its not his problem. HC is not failing because of him but because the leadership ignored the will of the house. 240 people voted for Stupak amendment. The will of the house should have been respected.
Speaking of sex and tape.

Hearing Delayed for Obama Judicial Nominee Who Supported Serial Killer
By Judson Berger
– FOXNews.com
The Senate Judiciary Committee has postponed the hearing for a controversial Court of Appeals nominee after the panel received a letter from a home-state prosecutor blasting him as a judicial loose cannon and Republicans raised concerns about his alleged bias in favor of sex offenders.
161 – About time, probably will cave as usual in the end.
Hi Howard!
KH, What happened to RWY at BJG?
Hey Jenna!
rdel,
So… Stupak is LYING when he said today he’s “optimistic HC will get done”? Or is he sincere? I say he’s sincere, unfortunately.
Whenever anyone starts talking about all the procedural roadblocks to Obamacare, I want to scream. That’s all applesauce! They all wanna do this, & they’ll sweep all that procedural yadda-yadda away, UNLESS the heat from the home folks scare them too much.
I don’t know really, I remember him saying it was gonna take a break or something around post superbowl time, maybe extended vacation or family thing maybe? I heard someone say he was back in town last week or something to that effect so maybe he’ll return soon. *shrugs*

repeal it later. They will booby trap it

183 – That’s fine he can effectively fire then Jan1, 2011; granted it doesn’t help for this years budget, but actually should the 2010 budget already be the one they are operating on? Besides that’s not much of a trap he toss them, it just costs 300 million; so ax enough to cover it, now maybe that’s not possible but that’s what I’d be thinking.
should=shouldn’t
“Stupak is hanging tough.”
Code for you guys need to raise the ante.
#183 Your quite correct – let ObamaCare thru and you will be stuck with nationized govt run HC until our ultimate financial collapse….
that kind of politcal and economic power is NOT going to be released by the Statist willingly….
They will always fight to keep it (like all previous entitlements have been repealed; in fact almost all have significant expansions) as if their lives depended on it – for those devoted to the religion of unlimited govt power it does!
Are we fighting against ObamaCare with the same zeal?
“McDonnell ran away from his social conservative resume. I lost count of how many times he said “Working women”.
Garbage….there is no conflict between social conservatism and working women by the way, many socially conservative women work.
And McDonnell’s thesis was something he had written 20 years or so before, hardly an issue. Or are you going to start talking about Obama’s relationship with structural lesbians?
I am not a socon, but I think this meme that conservative Republicans have to pretend to be something they are not is BS.
#186 He “hung tough” last time eh?
And the R voted to help pass his politcal cover amendment and ObamaCare brilliant….
Their is no practical way to hand out thousands in subsidies to tens of millions and NOT help finance abortions with taxpayer funds….
Just because you say people “must use their own money to add it to policies” doesnt change the fact you helped free up thousands of their own dollars to add abortion coverage or pay for their own abortions….
You are using tax money to enable more abortions to happen….
Its a distition w/o a difference….

Stupak is not lying. He just has a very different idea of what is easy to do. Stupak is also doing exactly what every politician in DC has been doing since 1789. They put their own spin on reality and they can define what they see in such a way to be 100% truthful.
I know-I know I always accuse Pelosi -Reid-Obama of being liars. In their cases in technically true. When Obama says “the American people want” and 68% reject obamacare and want it ditched. I believe Obama is lying.
In Stupak’s case here is what he is saying.
1. He will not support the senate bill when it comes to the house, and he has 12 votes to kill it. In addition he will not accept anything but a legislative fix to win his votes
2. Yet now that he has talked to Waxman & Hoyer they may be some sort of magical legislative trick or power play to get an abortion fix done. He says Hoyer & the democrats have the power to do it.
I say Stupak has given Hoyer a line in the sand that he will not cross. In addition Hoyer & Waxman are not going to say “we have loss”-they are going to say “lets see what we can do”. “let’s keep talking”.
Stupak actually played nice last June when he warned the democrats. Now he is truthfully saying that he set his line in the sand and the democratic leadership is trying to work around it.
“Look at intrade on KY. There is reasonably good odds on Rand winning in Kentucky.
Rdelbov seems to think otherwise though.”
Intrade just reflects current polling. I doubt Rand Paul can win the GE and if he does win he will be worthless to Republicans.
I am still hoping enough Republicans in KY will realize Rand Paul is neither a conservative or a Republican. Time will tell.
So who’s Maggelan polling this week?
I have been very skeptical on Stupak, I hope you true believers are right….I would love to be wrong on Stupak…
“U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts said Tuesday the scene at President Obama’s State of the Union address was “very troubling” and the annual speech has “degenerated to a political pep rally.”
Doesn’t sound like he is resigning….

I am skeptical of a 20 point Paul lead. I could be wrong. KY has always had a relatively small GOP primary turnout. In 2007 Gov race-Northrup & Fletcher there was only 200K primary votes.
That’s really not many voters. I think over half of the voters will be either in McConnell’s home area of Louisville or Grayson’s home area of Cincy suburbs or the Cumberland plateau area where Congressman Rogers holds sway. Maybe we will see 300K turnout and a new day in KY for the GOP. Look at TX with a huge turnout.
A big turnout in Texas helped Perry and likewise would help Paul.
How go things, Knight?
Thanks for the response to my question about your 2012 presidential preference, Rdel.
tired, about to head to the tv and then some sleep hopefully.
Here’s a nasty article about democrats fighting in PA
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0310/34133.html
That’s why I say Paul & Grayson are hardly even getting up a good fuss.
I might add that Robin Carnahan is going to miss Obama’s stop in Missouri on Wednesday. There’s a grayhound inspection going on in Rolla or some other good reason why she can’t see the President stump for HC. Arlen Specter offered to go with the President but was turned down.
I hope I’ll be able to catch Red Eye tonight, Knight.
Robin Carnahan will also miss the chance to join Claire McCaskill in the Senate in November, Rdel. The Carnahan name hasn’t been gold in Missouri since Mel died.
wes
You are so welcome. I would like Kasich but lets get him elected Gov 1st.
I think Kasich will be a contender in a few years, Rdel. It’s not time for anyone elected to major office since 2006 to run for the presidency though.
I note that my friend at Redstate has some points on Stupak. I think Erick distrusts Bart S. As I suspected the senate GOP has already said that Abortion cannot be fixed through reconciliation and that they would object (I think Boxer would too plus Gilly)
I think a seperate abortion bill would also not make it through the senate. GOP & Fems would filibuster it.
Remember Hoyer has an Easter recess as a goal for passing the bill but would not be upset if that date slipped until April.
Rdel, I doubt Obamacare will ever be passed. It will drag on ad nauseum and be a huge drag on the Dems in November.
What I want to know is if the GOP is smart enough to get in front of any kubaki “fix” to abortion language “boxcar” or WETF they call it…
They dont need to enable the shakles and destruction of Govt run HC by voting “yes” as they did on the original Stupak amendment…
They need to get out front of this one and say “its a trick, their will be govt funding of abortion, we will vote present”….
At least make the Democrats own-it in the entirety….
Is nobody in the GOP House thinking ahead on this?
212- this is why god invented tivo..
Peace out.
Already set up, Knight. Have a good one.
Wylie
I think the house GOP is waiting to see what Hoyer & Stupak come up with. I know this is a old tired thing to say but the house & senate leadership met and there was a democratic caucus and no HC bill was released. I think Reid & Pelosi are going to do the super secret CBO thing. If they don’t like what comes back they send it back again.
I have posted over and over again that the phony rally on HC is around a vapor recon bill. Of course how hard do you have to whip the ultra libs on HC? Pelosi could hold up toilet paper with HC written on it and get 180 votes. Its only the guys in the crosshairs who want details.
So Boehner, in my opinion, is keeping his powder dry until some clarity comes up. I think I can safely say that house leadership will oppose anything they cannot offer amendments to. For if istance if Stupak offers an abortion bill Boehner would offer an amendment to say on medicare or whatever. Then Boehner would oppose the boxcar bill on the theory that the GOP was shut out of the process. heck they would oppose on the bills on procedure and policy (except the abortion one on procedure only).
I have no doubt as Stupak is close to many GOP pro-life guys he knows that the GOP will not roll over on this one. There’s no need to say anything public right now. I firmly believe Stupak knows the GOP will aid him in fixing the abortion problem through a seperate bill or reconciliation.
Good Night all-still hopeful-concerned but hopeful
#20–Pawlenty is boorring and ignorant. In a recent Newsweek interview, Pawlenty said: “Well, you know I’m an evangelical Christian. I believe that God created everything and that he is who he says he was. The Bible says that he created man and woman; it doesn’t say that he created an amoeba and then they evolved into man and woman. “
The last thing the GOP needs is nominee that displays such ignorance.
Comment by Chekote — March 9, 2010 @ 6:02 pm
Chekote, do you find it fun to just plain offend fellow conservatives? Do you not have an interest at all in unifying with others who have the same political goals? What is it that makes offending other people SO much fun for you?
1. So is it your opinion that anyone who doesn’t line up with your personal beliefs is “ignorant”? How vulgarly arrogant you are, babe!
2. Are you aware that Pawlenty’s words above are probably believed by about 95% of evangelical Christians? So does this mean you view all evangelical Christians as “ignorant”? I totally agree with Pawlenty on this — am I ignorant? Is this what makes you dislike Sarah Palin so much — that she disagrees with you on this?
3. Are you aware that there are many, many Christians with PhDs who also agree with Pawlenty? Are they ignorant?
Chekote, I often defend you here. I’ve been offended by BPL’s harsh and vulgar attacks on you lately. But now you’ve made me feel like a fool. Apparently, my real ignorance is in believing that you are a decent human being. What is it about Christians that makes you hate us so much? You are a sad, pathetic creature, dear.
CrappyCare MUST be defeated NOW:
http://www.americanthinker.com/2010/03/defeat_vs_repeal.html
“There’s a temptation to say: Let the Democrats pass their bill. Let them own health care. Let them start “bending the cost curve” and rationing access to health care. Let them take over the evil insurance companies and have government gatekeepers be the ones to deny care. Then we’ll throw the Democrats out of office and repeal the bill and it will be morning in America again.
There are a number of reasons why the outcome of Obamacare would be a lot less enjoyable than this rosy scenario.
First of all, in the period between passage and repeal, many damaging events will have taken place. Taxes will have gone up. Many employers will have terminated their health plans and accepted a tax that costs them less than their employee health plan. Seniors will have lost their Medicare Advantage. Doctors will have retired rather than deal with the hassle of Obamacare. Already the curtain will have rung up on a meaner, nastier America.
And we know today what that looks like. It looks like Greece”
The odds are greatly stacked against any kind of successful repeal – kill this NOW!
#57 — Jindal’s career had not ended, I bet he still goes a long way in politics, he is a very smart guy.
Comment by jason — March 9, 2010 @ 6:34 pm
I totally agree! Remember that back in 1988 there was a young politician who gave a long-winded rambling speech at the Democratic Convention. It was so bad that some analysts thought he had killed his career. Four years later, he (Bill Clinton) won the White House. Goes to show that one bad speech is not career-ending, especially when you’re as young as Bobby Jindal is.
Intrade 70% R to win in KY
Comment by MFG — March 9, 2010 @ 8:04 pm
That’ll drop quickly if Rand wins.
#221 Arrrrrggggg!
I am not concerned nor do I want the GOP to “aid” Stupak on some passing some phony Abortion “fix”….that enables the passage of CrappyCare….
The intent is to KILL CRAPPYCARE!
Any “Abortion Fix” is worthless as courts, regulations, and future “new rights” will render it meaningless…..and its all semantics to begin with – you hand out tax money in the thousands to buy HC you FREE UP thousands to buy abortions or abortion coverage!
The defeat of CrappyCare is the goal not “fixin’” Abortion Language…

“Democrat Rep. Dale Kildee Flips Vote to “Yes” on Healthcare

Roll Call is reporting:
Rep. Dale Kildee (D-MI), a key supporter of Rep. Bart Stupak’s (D-Mich.) anti-abortion language intended for the health care bill, said Tuesday night that he’s satisfied the Senate abortion language prohibits federal funding of abortions and will likely vote for the bill.
“I think the Senate language keeps the purpose of the Hyde amendment,” Kildee told reporters. “I’ll probably vote for it.”
House Democratic leadership aides have predicted that they could perhaps cut the losses from Stupak’s coalition to a handful instead of the 10 or more Members he says will vote to bring down the Senate health care bill unless their demands are met.”
“Chekote, do you find it fun to just plain offend fellow conservatives?”
what makes you think she is conservative?
Stupak is all a lie. This goddamn stinker of a bill is going to pass. None of the dems went from yes to no because they know the damage has already been done the first time they voted yes. Also most of Stupak’s gang aren’t really vulnerable anyways.
Obama will get his victory and then we will get “immigration reform” and other stinkers. The democrats got exactly the margin they needed in the house and senate in 2006/2008 because of the incompetence of the GOP.
RIP USA.
how exactly can the obama ban fishing?
ok, who repealed the constitution when i wasn’t looking?
Obama did. Lenin got his midnight train to moscow. Obama got his amtrak ride to Washington D.C.

I may have confusing in #221 as it was late for me but My comments were intended to imply the GOP would “fix the abortion language”. Rather the GOP in the house, most likely, will not support the Stupak fix in a seperate bill.
Rather the GOP in the house will vote no on the recon bill, the stupak bill and the original senate bill. The House GOP, I predict, will vote no on everything.
I believe their complete desire is to defeat Obamacare. They have stated that over and over again.
I also believe they will keep their powder dry and not announce their rexact moves until the democrats show their hands.
Rick Perry is the absolute worst canadate the GOP can nomonate you would for sure have 4 more years of Obama!!!
He is destoying Texas with his open boarders policy and the Trans National super highway. How about many farmers and ranchers losing their farms & ranches and some people losing there home due to emminant domain, so that this highway would be built. Texas has alot of THMA camps there as well Rick Perry is a dangerious man he needs to be defeated in November!!! I hope Chuck Norris or Alex Jone will run as 3rd party canadates and beat this Charleton!!!
I ment THEMA Camps!!!!
If Ron Paul or Gary Johnson don’t run I’d vote for Mike Huckabee he is the nearest to Ron Paul. Plus he stood up for the Confederate flag in South Carolina in 2008. Mike Huckabee will get my vote if Paul or Johnson don’t run.
