It always figures on days when I am completely booked, polls seem to come out of the woodwork. Scott Rasmussen had a slew of polls today from various states and I am just going to post them without comment. We have a poll from Washington State.

The WA poll was done March 9th and the two New England polls were done March 8th, all among 500 likely voters. I’ll do a separate post for the Public Policy Polling polls out today. Shifting pollsters, Public Policy Polling has a new poll out for the Colorado gubernatorial race that completely contradicts a poll earlier this week from Scott Rasmussen. While Scott Rasmussen claimed Republican Scott McInnis was ahead by 6%, PPP is claiming it is in fact the Democratic candidate John Hickenlooper with a double-digit lead.

This poll was done March 5-8 among 580 registered voters. Not sure why there is such a discrepancy between two polls supposedly polling the same electorate. PPP also had a new poll for the state of Florida claiming Meek is within single digits of Marco Rubio.

Interesting to note that Rubio does better with Crist in the race as an Independent candidate. This poll was done March 5-8 among 849 registered voters.

    NO loses another vote and drops to 213 as Matheson goes from NO in November to undecided. NO is now three votes short. It started at 215 in November, picked up Cao, but lost Gordon, Massa, and Matheson.

    Donnelly is the latest of many YESSES to make encouraging comments (I will vote no IF the Senate Bill does not fix stuff, etc etc), but no Dem YES votes have made statements that indicate that they are clearly NO and out of play to Pelosi and Co.

    My whip count is the most accurate and hardnosed indicator of how far NO is from victory, and where things are moving.

    It is not intended to measure the strength of YES. That would be like trying to figure out women.

    House Rules Chairman Loouise Slaughter is preparing to usher the healthcare overhaul through the House and avoid a direct vote on the Senate overhaul bill.

    Slaughter is preparing a rule that would usher the Senate overhaul bill through once the House approves a “corrections bill” that would make changes in the Senate version.

    I thought that you made those changes in the senate and house versions in a conference committee? Oh wait, conference committee reports can be filibustered in the senate. Therefore, just create a completely new process out of thin air THAT HAS NEVER BEEN USED BEFORE.

    These people are unfricken believable.

    I have been telling everyone that this is a done deal. Procedures mean nothing to these people. Rules are for someone else. I appreciate all of Rdel’s posts but they are not relevant when the Marxists will not follow centuries old rules and regs.

    Looks like Dino may really be considering running against Patty Murray… I’d put his odds at about 50/50 of winning, if HC passes, 70/30 in his favor.

If there are changes to the Senate bill, it would go back to the Senate and they would run smack into the filabuster. Reid saying he wants to abolish the filabuster? They can’t get past Stupak and his coalition, Donnelly is now a no and Baron Hill and Brad Ellsworth are likely with him. Looks like utter desperation to me.

    If the government devolves to tyranny (abandoning the requirement of a vote before enacting legislation would count), Jefferson and other founders took for granted the right of the people to rebel and abolish the government in order to replace it with one that has the consent of the governed.

    But back then, the people had the means and the force of arms to do so. They were the main check on government power. This is what the 2nd amendment was drafted to protect.

    Now, however, the people do not have that kind of power. Is this now the proper role of the military? How does that call get made? Who tells the military to escort the Congressmen home and keep them there until the next election?

    IF the libs want a “living” Constitution, I suppose we can give it to them. After all, “power comes from the barrel of a gun”, right? One of their heroes said that, so they should be all for the concept.

    I have been reading these rumblings about Boxcar bills or self executing bills. Or Hostage bills. There are numerous names for these plans.

    I for one do not believe the house will vote a tricked up bill. The public uproar would be unbelievable if the democrats try a tricked up bill.

    The likely type bill would be a memo type bill that said If House Bill #1(the senate/house recon bill) passes the senate bill is deemed as passed. You still have to pass this bill and of course the house/senate recon bill) as well. This bill fools no one and shows the democrats as being arrogrant in procedure/process matters. Its like not seating Scot Brown for 60 days. Its an absolute vote loser for the democrats. This plan will not pass

    of course this also sets up an absolute brawl in the senate where nothing is certain.

    Never say never. I have been wrong before but this idea of a time bomb bill has all the hallmarks of a failed trail baloon.

    The pushback against the left on the Canadian healthcare story was pretty effective. We pretty much kept the MSM away from the story because the left clearly didnt’ have their facts right on what Canadian healthcare was in the 1960s.

    But the bill doesn’t really pay out benefits for a long time in order to be scored in a positive way by the CBO. So it will undoubtedly cause a lot of pain (hello double dip) before it gives interest groups any money.

    If by some miracle we gain an extra 3 or 4 seats this year (51 somehow with rossi and thompson jumping in), it is highly likely the repubs will have 60+ seats in 2012 along with the white house.

    If we are only conservative and repubs are 47 after this election it will be a tougher hill to climb. The economy is adding +3-5 to Republican margins across the board. You cannot expect that in 2012 (even though I strongly believe we will still be above 8% unemployment).

    Another way that is in line with the Constitutuion would be to throw caution to the wind, call for a Constitutional Convention, pack it with right thinking people, and clean up the whole shootin match.

    Well I think people feeling disenfranchised is a good thing. We don’t want them flying planes into the Texas buildings, but I think being skeptical of the National Government is a great thing.

    The stereotype of a southerner is the Patriotic white guy with the flag in his truck who wants to die for his country and who gets pissed off at the ball game when the guy sitting next to him doesn’t stand for the national anthem.

    They’re internalized the National identity as part of their own personal identity. It’s like Don Quijote novels trying to romanticize what Spain was supposed to be like (even though it isn’t remotely like that or possibly never was like that.) It’s just Romanticism.

As far as raising money for presidential politics, I’d point out one thing about Sarah Palin: To date, she’s raised exactly the same amount of money for such a race as John Thune–$0. That doesn’t mean anything but that neither of them has ever been in a position to raise money for such a race despite Palin’s having served as McCain’s Veep choice. Any argument about Palin’s being able to raise money while Thune can’t is a red herring till either or both actually starts the process. Till then, it’s all speculation.

    That’s why a presidential run from him would be DOA.

    To the Tea Party people that are replacing and remolding the RNC from the bottom up to be a more conservative organization, Insider = poison.

    That’s why Paul is winning and will likely win in Ky. It has nothing to do with his principles, beliefs and ideas, and EVERYTHING to do with the fact he’s neither ‘the establishment’ nor does he have a ‘D’ after his name.

    242. That’s fine. Time will ultimately tell. Just ask urself why there’s no “John Thune must be stopped by hell or high water!” starategy being implemented by the Dems. To me, the biggest threat on the GOP side is the one everyone on the left (including Chekote) has tried to undermine. Why not go after Mitt, Thune, Huckabee or whoever if they’re more likely to win than Palin? It’s only logical.

    Not that Thune’s a bad candidate, it’s just he wouldn’t be running against Algore, Kerry, or even Tom Daschle, but a cultivated machine.
    Like I said, time will tell.

    Kristen, D&C is the most expensive place in town for ribs & less-than-prime steaks. Quality-wise it rarely gets rave reviews (Sometimes D&C overcooks their meats, I’m told.).

    The presidential election depends on 2010. And 2010 is largely contingent on healthcare, at least on a federal level.

    On a state level, it could go two ways:
    If HC passes and Rs catch that tailwind, then the number of statehouses that stay or turn R will determine redistricting.

    If HC doesn’t pass, I’m not sure what will happen. R’s have already been energized EVEN IF HC dies in Congress.

    I’m rather surprised that we don’t talk more about redistricting, here on HHR. In the long haul — at least a decade — far more will be decided by redistricted states that gain/lose seats.

    So, to sum, I’d base any presidential predictions on what happens after the 2010 redistricting battles.

    I can speak, in broad terms, about AZ. Rumors are we’ll get only one more CD, not two as some had hoped. As most of the population growth has been in the exurbs of Phoenix, it will be here.

    Since AZ is divided into 30 LDs, these will also be redistricted in a way that follows population growth — i.e., in Phoenix’s ‘burbs.

    The balance of power will shift closer to the capital.

    Note: AZ population has actually decreased by one or two percent, mostly by an exodus of illegals. (Thanks, Georgia!) Thus, areas once populated by illegals — democratic strongholds, mostly — will be weakened by the timing of the 2010 redistricting. Had redistricting occurred in 2007, the population pattern may have been less advantageous to Republicans.

    Arizona redistricts by commission though, Kristen. That could throw a monkeywrench into the breakdown of the CD.

    Yes, I know. And they’re SUPPOSED to be non-partisan. The last commission was tied up in lawsuits for years but I don’t think this will happen again.

    The commission has guidelines. They must equalize the districts by population. Although they can gerrymander the boundaries, to some degree, they’re supposed to follow natural boundaries, school districts and highways.

    Interestingly, Phoenix has many new highways that seem to separate the inner (read:Dem) city and R burbs. I’d imagine they’d have a difficult time ignoring such obvious lines of demarkation.

    Frankly, as long as Reps do reasonably well in 2010, and knowing that some of the population loss is mostly Ds, I think R’s will do well.

    CD 1,3 and 8 are up for grabs, though the likelihood of getting all three, or even two, isn’t good.

    k
