Romney Leads Santorum by 4% in AZ

We have a new poll from CNN and Opinion Research Corporation showing Mitt Romney with a 4% lead over Rick Santorum in the state of Arizona.

PRESIDENT – ARIZONA – GOP PRIMARY (CNN/ORC)
Mitt Romney 36%
Rick Santorum 32%
Newt Gingrich 18%
Ron Paul 6%

This poll was done February 17-20 among 467 likely voters. In other words, 50% of Republican primary voters in the state of Arizona want the face of the Republican Party to be either Newt Gingrich or Rick Santorum. It is just absolutely depressing to think about….

    Wobbles, if you’re still around, I left something for you on the last thread;

    Hey, Wobbles, way off topic, but I have a question you just might be able to answer. Actually, there are two, but just pick the one you have personal knowledge/experience with;

    1) Chili’s or Friday’s?

    2) In Toronto, The Keg or Il Fornello?

Again, no need to answer both; choosing one will satisfy my inquiry. Thanks!

Santorum Will Have to Answer on Satan
    February 21, 2012
    BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: I mentioned earlier in the program that Santorum, people have dug deep and they found a speech that he gave back in 2008 in Ave Maria, Florida, at Ave Maria University. Drudge has this plastered up. The Democrats have found it. It’s all over the place. Think Progress and whatever leftist think tanks have dug this up, and it’s part of the predictable attempt to impugn Santorum as an absolute religious nut and wacko. But he did say these things and he’ll to have an answer for these things when queried. Let’s play these sound bites. We have three of them. This is where Santorum has said that Satan as set his sights on America. Again, this is at Ave Maria University, August of 2008, in Ave Maria, Florida.

SANTORUM: Satan has done so by attacking the great institutions of America, using those great vices of pride, vanity, and sensuality as the root to attack all of these strong plants that have so deeply rooted in American tradition. He was successful. The place where he was, in my mind, the most successful and first successful was in academia. He understood pride of “smart” people. He attacked them at their weakest, that they were in fact smarter than everybody else and could come up with something new and different, pursue new truths, deny the existence of truth, play with it, “because we’re smart;” and so academia a long time ago fell.

    Dave,

Each page used to have about the 15 most recent posts on it. Now, it’s just like 4 or 5.

Any reason for the change? I sort of liked it when it was 15 on a page. Was much easier to keep up with things and search the archives.

    Thank you.

    CNN BREAKING!
A CNN poll shows Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum in a statistical tie in Arizona, with 36% of likely voters supporting Romney for the GOP presidential nomination and 32% backing Santorum.

An earlier version of this alert incorrectly attributed the percentages in the poll.
In the CNN/Time/ORC International Poll, Santorum leads among born-again Christians in Arizona by 9 points but trails among nonevangelical Republicans by 12 points. Romney trails by 3 points among tea party supporters but has a 15-point lead among Republicans who oppose the tea party or are neutral toward it.

Romney has a 10-point lead in urban areas but manages no better than a tie in suburban and rural Arizona. The state holds its Republican presidential primary next Tuesday.

  20. bio mom says:

I don’ t understand your math Dave. 467 likely voters total but 505 are for Newt or Rick?????

  21. Corey says:

    505= 50% (minus shift key)

  22. SoHope says:

I think it was headline worthy…Trent Lot went down for less. GWB was attacked for less at BJU.

  23. Robbie says:

What about this entire process, beginning in early 2011, hasn’t been depressing?

Regardless of who the nominee is, the nominating process seems broken to me.

We don’t need two year campaigns and we certainly don’t need campaigns geared towards the more clownish characters.

The debates gave the marginal candidates far too much attention. They never had to create a campaign or raise money. They just had to show up every week and rant and rave.

I don’t mind the way the calendar is set up for the primaries, but I would like to see the convention play a bigger role. The informmecials are a waste.

  24. Corey says:

Robbie, find a new hobby if it bothers you this much.

No person should attempt to spread as much misery as you wish to upon us.

No person should attempt to spread as much misery as you wish to upon us.

My “misery”, as you call it, will always be matched by you’re admiration and support for Ronald Romney. I mean Mitt Reagan.

  31. Robbie says:

27.Ah, now Wobbie Troll thinks the whole system is depressing, not just Romney.

He prefers a system where Obama gets 8 years without wasting time on elections.

    Comment by jason — February 21, 2012 @ 5:48 pm

I know you’re a professional political consultant so answer me this. What is good about a system that rewards marginal candidates like Bachmann, Cain, and others by giving them weekly platforms that place them on par with the real candidates.

I admit, I don’t like Romney, but at least he set up a real campaign. He organized staff and states, he raised money, and he’s put out detailed plans. Pawlenty did that as well, but he was gone in a flash.

The other bozos in the race never even attempted to be real candidates. They just used the debate platforms as a way to promote themselves for future book sales and TV shows. Even today, Santorum doesn’t have a real campaign.

A system that allows marginal candidates, not out to actaully win, to be on the same level with those actually trying to win the race is not reasonable or fair to the process.

#25…I am on my second iMac. First one lasted a long time. They are so user friendly. Use mine mainly for reading on the internet and for e-mail. Was trained to use the computer when I was teaching high school. Am glad they required taking the computer lessons. I have a great Canon printer to print out articles I like to read on the internet. My friends have PC and have to run virus programs that last a long time.

  33. SUSYQUE says:

#26…SoHope, I didn’t realize that people entered the race for fame to further their careers. Am disappointed. Hope Romney wins. Santorum is younger and can try in the next election.

  39. mnw says:

Flake (R) is up by +11 over the DEM Carmona in AZ SEN, per PPP(D).

This has probably been noted earlier, but I just saw it.

The good news? Flake’s winning! The bad news?Flake got a pass in the primary from a far better GOP candidate.

  40. Annie says:

16 – Tim – I disagree, because this is how Santorum really feels about the nature of Americans and is an indication of the zealous fervor of his religious leanings (I’m a practicing Catholic, and I think he’s off the deep end).

  41. Annie says:

Flake will no doubt get a lot of people voting for him simply because his name is “Flake.”

  42. mnw says:

    Cory!

    You little Grit mathemagician, you!

Cory holds the “Distinguished Grit Chair of Mathemagic & Socialist Philosophy” at the University of A Little Bit South of Saskatoon.

  43. mnw says:

The Satan thing may not be showing up in the polls fully yet. Rush had it about right: “Voters aren’t used to hearing Presidential candidates talk that way.”

  44. Cory says:

Ok, I have to admit, I’m starting to enjoy the things that mnw makes up about me. He has a flair that JT is missing.

  45. SUSYQUE says:

confusion reigns! We have a Corey…male.
    Who is Cory…perhaps a woman?

  46. hellbelly says:

I hope Santorum answers questions about this “controversy” by saying: “yup….i said it….i meant it….and i agree with everything i said”…..the MSM has no idea how to deal with anyone who actually believes in evil.

  47. mnw says:

Cory is the self-admitted frostback socialist.

  48. Annie says:

Santorum in a speech today in Arizona: “I am not a manager. I am not a visionary. I am a guy from a steel town…” Well, heck, why does he think he should be president – a job that requires a manager and a visionary???

  49. Cory says:

That one didn’t have as much flair.
    I’m a liberal Canadian.

  50. SUSYQUE says:

#48…Annie….I don’t think steel town guys make over a million
    a year….or do they?

  51. hellbelly says:

    Re: 48

Please, don’t tell me you are suggesting Romney is a “visionary”?

  52. Annie says:

Mr. Hellbelly – Romney is a topnotch manager and his vision is for this nation to prosper and gain wealth, to pay down our national debt. That is the clear-eyed vision this country needs now.

  53. Annie says:

    Cory is a hoser.

  54. Annie says:

Cory – My oldest son is #1 is his fantasy hockey league…beating out a huge group of Canadians, too, by several hundred points.

  55. jason says:

Cory is a Marxist who is math challenged.

  56. Annie says:

Susy – The person who was the coal miner and salt of the earth was Santorum’s immigrant grandfather. Most Americans can tout a hard working immigrant grandfather – one of mine was a brick mason, one was a carpenter…my grandmothers came from the Midwestern farms. He’s trying to hook himself to the Americana scenario – the child of immigrants lives the American dream. I want to know what he’s done lately that qualifies him for the job of POTUS…because like I said, just about all Americans have the immigrant saga in their ancestral past. That doesn’t mean we are all qualified to be president -

  57. SUSYQUE says:

#55…if what you are saying is true (wink) then who is COREY?

  58. Annie says:

Santorum’s father was a clinical psychologist…which might reflect on Santorum’s mental state.

  59. Annie says:

    Corey is an American conservative.

  60. Annie says:

Cory vs. Corey is the yin and the yang.

  61. hellbelly says:

    re: 58

….actually that sounds like a talking point (or a shouting point) from the DNC. So-Cons aren’t allowing that stuff to go without questioning any more….and if Romney (and his supporters) lose the So-Cons he ain’t gonna win.

  62. Robbie says:

I’m a realist and a pessimist. The majority of people who comment here are unrealitic optimists who only want to believe happy talk.

I was attacked by the same people in 2008 when I said McCain’s campaign was foundering and had little chance to win. I said that in March of 2008, by the way.

I was attacked in the Fall of 2008 when I said McCain’s plan to suspend his campaign was a joke and a sign of a campaign grasping for straws.

I was attacked the last week of the campaign for stating there was no evidence McCain was surging. Polaris had convinced everyone here the polls were wrong and McCain would win.

If you want to believe I’m a troll or some sort of Paulbot, go right ahead.

  63. TedO says:

#41,,,Actually there are a lot of Flakes here in Arizona. It is a rather prolific Mormon family all over Arizona. There are and have been many Flakes in our State government the last few years.

  64. mnw says:

What’s the difference between “a liberal Canadian” & a Grit, Cory?

You told us long ago you vote Grit, & that’s socialist, right?

No argle-bargle now, just OWN it like a man, OK? You ARE a socialist!

  65. jenny-former republican says:

The reason I never smoked is because, for once, I listened to my parents and learned from their mistakes.

“This reminds me of my earlier writing on liberals, and others who talk about “those other people” who need the government to take care of them. Clearly, the audience of any speaker, and the members of his party, do not need this special care, but somehow, there are a whole lot of other people out there who do. In other words, somehow a majority of people are special and superior, but there remains an even bigger majority of ignoramuses who need the help of the first majority.

It is a human tendency which trouble me, the tendency to think we are each somehow special and superior to the rest of humanity, that we, and maybe those we know, are an elevated elite, while the great unwashed masses are some sort of subhuman crowd.”
