Open Thread FRIDAY!
That was surely an aggravating end to Thursday night. I spent the entire evening watching a 0-0 scoreless tie through three periods between my Capitals and the Boston Bruins. I then decide at the last minute as the third intermission is ending to go upstairs to watch the overtime. I putz around for a few minutes before I manage to turn the TV on and when I do, Comcast SportsNet is flashing the FINAL SCORE as 1-0 Bruins. Apparently Boston scored barely more than a minute into overtime. What a waste of a night….
If you start getting junk emails from self-proclaimed conservative groups, you will have “The Last Conservative Standing” to blame. I thought this line from the Politico article tells all you need to know about Gingrich and why I detest him so much.
Campaign insiders attribute the problems partly to Gingrich and his wife Callista’s, asserting that the couple was unwilling to downgrade from private jets and security details even as the campaign floundered. Insiders say Callista Gingrich required an entourage of at least two staffers – including one who dressed in an elephant costume to promote her children’s book – and a contracted security guard who followed her even on non-campaign trips.
And this is the man self-proclaimed conservative wanted to be their standard-bearer…well I guess he is a good debater, or so he says….
Have a great start to your FRIDAY!

1st
Too bad about the Caps. Rangers dominated Ottawa in their 4-2 win last night.
Hockey is a Canadian sport.
This is America – football – followed by baseball – are the national pasttimes.
Re: the national condition, Romney must summon every ounce of steely resolve and deny Little Ricky & Eye of Newt speaking slots at the convention. Their collective classlessness and utter recklessness deserve no less.
Happy Friday all!
Rockefeller Troll is back?
What was the bad news for Rs?
Newt would get defeated by Obama in a debate because he has built up his own expectations so high, all Obama would have to do is show up to win.
Yawn @ lil’ jason the troll…singing your same old song…
Ho-hum, lil’ jason.
Rasmussen about to put out a poll on favorables for possible Veeps:
Rubio: 35/28
Santorum: 41/51
Christie: 43/35
Portman: 14/26
Ryan: 36/30
Hockey is a Canadian sport.
Really? I forgot about them. What league do the Canadians play in?
Santorum? Noooooooooooooooooooooooo!
McDonnell is the VP pick.
Why doesn’t Ras include him?
Christie would be great pick too.
Rest of those mentioned by Ras are non-starters.
Including Little Ricky is laughable – unless Ras thinks Romney wants kiss off the election.
About to head off to Philly for the day. Gotta get in my pilgrimages so that I can stay a member of the club.
We will be getting that NC President poll from Rasmussen today.
Where are you going, Brandon? You should be safe. Both of Philadelphia’s Black Panthers are busy getting read for the Pennsylvania Primary.
OK, I’m going to keep pushing for Kelly Ayotte.
Let’s see the Democrats try and Palinize her. Good luck with that. It will blow up in their face.
NC Polls are trash. I just wait for Dustin/Melissa to report in on the state of the race.
Well crap, that hurts my portman prediction.
Wait, are we talking about Rob Portman or Natalie Portman?
Phil – Social conservatives would love her and other voters would be drawn to her.
I think we may head down to the Zoo and then McFaddens and then the game tonight.
Barrett – Nataliee Portman’s chances were diminished when it was revealed that she did not do most of the dancing in Black Swan. However, she does have an Academy Award and starred in 3 Star Wars movies. The nerd vote could be huge.
Brandon – We? What are you not telling us? The zoo is cool.
A couple friends and I?
Paul Ryan would be good, but he’s good where he is now – currently tearing Obama a new one for trying to incite class warfare
I thought there was a lady involved. I would think anybody under 25 with a job is in high demand.
I’m all for carrying Ohio. It will be tough and we have to have to have it. I just don’t think Portman helps. Yep, he’s from Ohio, but that’s all he’s got. Pretty blah.
Well the friends are ladies and let’s just say I’m working on it.
We could pick my Great Uncle Charles, he lives in Ohio and talks a good number
For the people who are commented about my 350 EV assertion: Obama wasn’t suppose to win Indiana or NC in 2008 but did. When there is a wave, it hits states normally considered safe.
I said it before. 250k+ a month by May for about an even shot at reelection. 120k means next 2 months are probably 150k as well. People are sick of these job numbers and unlike biased Dems like Tim, the economy is not recovering strongly in swing states. In fact it is recovering strongly mainly in red states. That is not a recipe for a 2nd Obama term. The guy can still win, he has lots of money and a swath of ignorant, racist voters that can be turned out with empty rhetoric but he would have to break historical precedent.
Obama would have to break historical trends with gallup polling and unemployment.
Diogenes- I think Romney scrapes by, I honestly do
Brandon – If you don’t like spending 1 1/2 hours in a parking lot after the game, park in Center City for $20 and take the subway to the game – 10 minutes from Broad and Walnut.
Ramussen will show NC tied today , however, leaning Obama . They have a D+6 in the poll , but NC is D +11 . Happy Friday everyone
If the state is tied, how is it leaning Obama? Tied is the opposite of leaning.
Planning the Campaign (very informative, even for the HHR Gurus)
Rich Galen
• I took your valuable time to remind you of all that because as you listen to geniuses like me on TV and radio for the next seven months talk about how many women are voting for Obama; how many men are voting for Romney; how many religious conservatives and how many college students will actually turn out to vote you should keep all that in mind.
• It is impossible to contemplate that Texas and Mississippi will go for Obama no matter how unenthusiastic conservatives might be for Romney. Just as it is impossible to believe that New York and California liberals will awaken next November and realize how disappointed they are in Obama and turn those states out for Romney.
• Ain’t gonna happen.
http://www.mullings.com/currentissue.htm
31…its called troll spin.
The only one who will decide the VP pick will be Romney using sound judgment. The same way he made choices as a CEO. He will definitely not be influenced by any stupid popularity polls. I think he is seriously considering Portman and also Ryan or McDonnell. Christie is a long shot. It won’t by Rubio. And Santorum? Give me a break!
Mr. Wissing:
In light of the North Korean missile launch, I believe that the Hedgehog Report should issue a very sternly worded rebuke of the North Korean government. Well, not too sternly worded at first. Maybe the first post could express our “concern” about the launch. If necessary, the second post would state that we are “very concerned.” Thank you.
Ramussen NC
Obama 47
Romney 46
Ask Scott Ramussen how it is tied , yet they say it has a slight Obama lean , not me .
thats cute Melissa thinks we take her serious
or him w/e it feels like it wants to be today
#36, is that an actual Ras poll or a Troll Poll?
Here’s a real poll!
Mitt: 48%
Barry: 44%
Barry down to 46% approval.
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/obama_administration/daily_presidential_tracking_poll
Nothing on the Platinum site yet…
#41, heh. I figured. Dave, please take notice.
#40 is Ras’ Friday national polling.
#43, I know. And it’s great news.
I’m thinking the NC poll is trollish BS.
NC Ramussen will be released this afternoon , and he says it is very close , but Obama leads slightly .
Niceeeeeeeee
I think Melissa/Dustin/Brandonn are the same person.
As another Brandon who visits, usually lurking, I am disappointed in the poor quality of Brandonn’s trolling. I am a die-hard Democrat who walked with Steinem.s massive ho-gina, and I plan on voting Romney just thanks to the devolving state of trolling.
Brandon , I am not even in NC , I live in VA , but i bet you are hot as Hell man
This is a wave election. States you cannot imagine will go Romney. People will come out just to get rid of Obama. No more. No less
#47, probably.
The reason Obama will win NC is that bloodsucking parasites like me and my husband will all vote for him. If he wins, we won’t have to pay our mortgage or work. Let’s face it if the government will provide for us it’s much better than working our asses off for a measly salary.
And there are more of us everyday. You working stiffs are screwed.
Oh, hey Eph.
MD and I are not the same person. He is successful and has a drinking prob…affinity for “business meetings.” I can write “Esquire” after my name and I am friends with and/or married to 4 of the 6 breasts in the 1993 Villanova Law School class.
We too are throwing our endorsement to Romney due to the piss-poor quality of Brandonn, a troll who fails at trolling and even fails at failing. We refuse to have our good names dragged through the mud of the internets. REAL Brandonns, Brandonnns, Brandonnnns, and all other brothers adding Ns like A’s in a telephone book unite!
THE COOK REPORT Down to the Wire
Don’t put much stock in predictions that President Obama will coast to victory. The election will be close.

Tim, Brandon:
The cocoon on this site is delusional. Predicting 350 EVs for Romney is a cry for help.
In the real world, Obama starts with a floor of 246 EVs, the Kerry states. Nothing in the political world, no polls show otherwise.
Add in some of the Bush states – NV, CO, NM, IA – and it is over. OH, VA, FL and NC will be just icing on the cake for Obama.
The only 2008 state that is certain to flip is Indiana. When the GOP candidate trailing in a state like NC is considered good news, you know you are screwed.
If Obama wins there will be government restaurants offering free food. I read it on the Internet.
I must throw my support to Romney, due to my disappointment in Brandonn’s lack of trolling skills.
That goes for Brandon #1, 2, 3, 4 , and 5
Here is the REAL NC Poll:
Romney: 46%
Obama: 44%
Good morning folks. I hope all is well with my fellows HHR’s today.
They will bever catch me.
I thought Ras releases a “core states” poll on Friday- NC VA OH FL ?
GFY, Marv. Oh, sorry. It’s a little tense here with all the trolls.
#57 – Just to quibble a bit, NH is a “Kerry state”, and quite a few polls (although not all) have shown Romney in the lead there.
UT-04(Mason-Dixon)
Matheson: 46%
Wimmer: 45%
Matheson: 45%
Love: 42%
Matheson: 47%
Sandstrom: 41%
http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/politics/53904666-90/beat-candidates-jim-matheson.html.csp
To all my fellow conservatives……….Gov Romney is our nominee. Get over it! Do all you can to help him beat Obama.
I was a Gov Perry supporter and I will support Gov Romney with the same fervor that I supported Gov Perry.
flipping Indiana, NC, Va, Florida, Ohio, and NH are our best bets. That gives us 270 right on the nose.
Kelly Ayotte gives us NH.
Women will like her and nationally, we need all the help we can get with women.
It’s a no brainer. Attempts to try and Palinize the smart and likable senator will backfire.
Brandon, what was the party breakdown for NC ?
Phil,
I read a couple of articles concerning potential options to replace Kyle Stadium…….what’s the latest on that front?
Marv,
A decision will be made and a firm has been hired to make plans. Won’t replace it. It will be remodeled and parts of it demolished and rebuilt. They will start construction at the end of the 2013 football season. Probably will require our playing 2014 season at Reliant Stadium in Houston.
Phil,
What is the new seating capacity expected to be?
D-36
R-32
I-32
We’re going to win
As more and more of the anti-Mitts come to acceptance Mitt’s numbers will continue to improve
Within three weeks expect Mitt to be pretty consistently up 3%-5% in national polling
That is way off , that shows that Obama is leading by a few points then .
The first shift we will see is in the state polling. Pay close attention to that.
Its also good to see Mason Dixon has begun it general election polling. Hopefully more media companies will be polling races.
Needless to say we are still shell-shocked here at the DNC troll center. Santorum’s sudden departure from the race caught us all off-guard. Our strategic plan had assumed his remaining in the race with the goal of a brokered convention. But that is now not going to happen. Don’t worry, we are not even going to try to prop up Newt–that account is long overdrawn.
So our management team has been scrambling for a new strategy. Right now we just are sending out angry trolls to just make stuff up hoping to discourage. We don’t really care if we are caught or exposed for making stuff up…we are just supposed to cause trouble and discourage as best as possible until we get a new strategic plan.
Please be patient with us during this time of transition.
#66 – Would love to see the GOP finally dislodge Matheson in Utah this year. There aren’t many red congressional districts still held by Dems, and this one stands out like a sore thumb. The GOP needs wins in races like this one to offset losses that are going to happen in places like Illinois and California.
It would be an extra bonus if Mia Love were the one to knock him off. Ms. Love, the current mayor of Saratoga Springs, is the daughter of Haitian immigrants and would be the first female black Republican ever elected to Congress. Whoever wins the primary, I hope Romney schedules some visits to the 4th District in the Fall to help the GOP candidate over the top.
Can we win mama? Did the man just say we could win?
NC Party Breakdown via State website
Dem 44
Rep. 32
Ind. 24
Ramussen undersampled Dems and oversampled Indies . If you go by party figure turnout for Pres. Elections. Obama would be leading by 3 points .
There’s an interesting interview done by Newsmax with Kerry Healey. She was mentioned by Ann Romney, in that Fox interview, as an example of women working with Gov. Romney, Healey being his L. Gov.
Several things to note in this interview: First, Romney is weaving in Obama’s own record with woman, via the now much publicized gaffe of Rosen’s demeaning comment towards Romney’s wife. Healey brought up the fact that when Romney was gov. half his administration’s jobs were filled by women, and was the highest percentage in the country, at that time. She went on to say that it was a very family friendly environment to work in.
Healy then went on to contrast Obama’s record with women, saying that since 2009 92.3% of those losing jobs were women! I was frankly amazed at this statistic. But, she said it was taken directly from government stats. If true, this would be quite a ‘fact’ to hold over Obama’s head everytime he talks about being for women!
In talking about Healey’s relationship to Romeny, someone she has worked for 10 years, the following was also noted:
Such a choice might give insight to whom Romney could be inclined to pick as VP. In fact, Phil’s choice, of Kelly Ayotte for VP, might not be out of the ball park in possibilities.
Kerry Healey: It’s Obama who is out of touch with women interview
I wish I was as good at making up numbers like the rest of the trolls here
janz – Hilary Rosen is a lesbian. She wouldn’t understand the concept of “stay at home Mom” if it came up and punched her in the face.
That is from the ncsboe.gov website
Crap, forgot to change mah name
I am a lesbian and voting Romney woo hooo
#80-lisab
In many parts of the Tar Heel State as with the Panhandle in Florida, many, many Dems vote for the Republicans for federal offices.
Kyle capacity 95K – 105K depending on the plan they approve.
#87 – The concept of a “conservative Democrat” is something that LisaB’s brain can’t handle
janz,
I’m a little concerned about putting a female on the ticket because I read on the Internet once that some of them are subject to mood swings when placed under pressure. Do you have an opinion on that question?
janz,
Phil,
Go with the 105K?
Phil,
Go with the 105K.
Marv,
Long term it’ll be secession again
President Perry
Vice President Jindal
Constitutional States of America
What say you?
Did I mention that Senator Ayotte was smokin’ when she had her Penn State baseball hat on and drank beer?
Stock market just wildly volatile, hard to get a feel for any of it
Well Duh !!! But his poll says Obama is getting 80% of Dems , but he has only 36% Dem when it is 44% , even Civitas agrees with PPP
#94,
Perry/Barbour 2016
Well I am a gay male that is 27 years old in NC and I am voting for Romney .
Thats the best you trolls can do?
President JesusUnicornMessiah will win NC?
Come on, you can do better than that!
Marv,
I’m laughing as I’m typing.
You know the world of men/women is changing. Yep, women are subject to mood changes, but then again so are men. Men and women seem to be changing roles. Just look at college admission percentages — more women than men going to college. The work force is becoming more top heavy with women in competitive high management type jobs. Their incomes are way up there, oftentimes being the family’s main breadwinner. And, you’re seeing more and more women juggling family life with public service life as well.
So, I see nothing wrong with a women’s temperament being in a 2nd position behind the president, as long as she was the right kind of woman.
Of course we all know the record of Margaret Thatcher, as an example of a strong and capable female role model!
Depends on how many luxury boxes they decide to build, Marv. Those are big moneymakers and the more of them built the smaller the overall capacity will be.
if you folks want to split the country into pieces, be my guest. Just play nice with each other
MSNBC: The White House says it is canceling proposed food aid to North Korea following failed launch of rocket by Pyongyang regime. Official says that the U.S. and its allies will “take additional steps” if there are more “provocative actions” but does not specify what those steps might be.
–what’s the problem with this headline?
What in the world were we doing sending Food aid to begin with??
100…like I said, please go easy on us, we are still hurting from the Santorum decision, and we are in transition while our bosses come up with a new strategic plan.
#101 janz,
Whew……..now I feel much better about a lady on the GOP ticket. Thank you for reminding me of Prime Minister Thatcher. You forgot to mention Gold Mier.
*Golda Mier.
There is not a chance turnout in NC will be 12 plus for dems. Romney takes it with room to spare. Read Halston at RCP on the election. Understand Obama is the underdog
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/us/general_election_romney_vs_obama-1171.html
Evidence of the difference the end of a primary would make.
NOW president says that Ann Romney lacks life experience and imagination to relate to most Americans
Have I ever expounded on how much I think NOW lacks unbiased experience and imagination in their defense and general references to a normal woman’s plight in life or thought processes?
They suck!!!
and one more link, just showing the demise of santorum:
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/us/republican_presidential_nomination-1452.html
and a reminder that no matter how dark it looked for Romney along the way, Corey and I kept insisting that the fundamentals of the race had not changed, and that in the end Romney had every important advantage.
Last I checked, “Most Americans” had a mother who raised them.
Maxine Waters…isn’t she under an ethics investigation?
janz,
Another concern that I have is that if Mitt puts a female on the ticket and then goes on to win, there will be immense pressure on the Augusta National Golf Club to admit a woman. That would forever alter the charm and culture of the place and diminish the aura surrounding The Masters.
If you can assuage my concerns, then I’d be fine with a female VP, on a trial basis.
#104:
My guess would be that people there are hungry…….
Welch On Obama…There Is Always Someone Else to Blaim with the guy!
http://hotair.com/archives/2012/04/13/welch-on-obama-its-always-someone-else-to-blame-with-this-guy/
#115 – And we really though the government would give them the food for free?
LOL
Tim,
Is there anything new on the Obama ineligibility question?
I heard that the GOP will let it go now that it is almost certain that Romney will overthrow the Regime.
115…and?
Why would we try to send food? There is a terrible track record with this sort of thing…even if we try to send food to countries like this, the despotic ruler always gets his hands on it, because it is a valuable resource. Then he sells the food so he will have the money to build another palace while the people go on starving. I know these countries are liberal utopias, but why should we fund them?
What do I think? Thanks for asking:
I would like for Mitt to chose a man as his VP.
Choosing a woman stirs up too much controversy.
#119…DW…sending food to North Korea is no new thing. We have been doing it for years. I am sure they are not the only country.
NC Actual per Ramussen
Romney 49%
Obama 43%
Whatever happened to the practice of electing former US military officers to the Presidency?
We had a chance with Gov Perry, until those people in Iowa screwed us…………..nevermind, I’ll just have to get over it.
@122 I thought it was 46-44?
121…we need to stop this. No more food to countries that have despotic rulers. All we are doing is encouraging these people to just accept life with their despotic ruler. If they are starving however, they will rise up and overthrow the despot. In the long run attempting to feed them is not helping them improve their lives.
#122 – I’m hearing so many people make so many statements about NC polls today, so I gotta ask, is this one legit?
Marv – I agree that military officers should be given high priority when electing Presidents. If only President Sherman had followed President Grant.
I respect Marv for seeing the light on Romney, but #127 definitely made me shout “ZING!” out loud
“Kelly Ayotte gives us NH”
romney takes NH anyway
Bitterlaw,
I was thinking more along the lines of Chesty Puller or Curtis LeMay
Just observing Newt and 3rd wife tells us what
they would be like if he ever became president.
He is a taker of the first order.
Observe how they now live. Politico quotes unnamed campaign insiders who claim that Gingrich refused to scale down his operations even after the money stopped flowing into the campaign. They describe an “entourage” for Callista Gingrich, although that “entourage” only consisted of two aides, which hardly sounds Elvis-ish. (One of the aides reportedly dressed occasionally in an elephant costume to help Mrs. Gingrich promote her children’s book, though.) The use of private jets ran up the cost, but Politico’s sources also criticize the Gingriches for maintaining their security details, which doesn’t exactly sound like a luxury for a serious presidential candidate. Now he is planning to sell his donors list.
Bitterlaw,
To this day, I refuse to visit any museum that displays a Sherman Tank. That’s how strongly I feel about the matter.
lisab is right about NH. I have been saying it all along. Expect Romney to win the state by 10 points.
Santorum should not be able to abort his Election after 15 weeks. He must go the full 9 months until it’s “natural” failure occurs
NH has potential to be a future red state
#133 – By 10? That would be a historical swing, but I suppose it’s possible.
I’m entirely confident he carries the state anyways
so is Romney up 46-44 or 49-43?
in NC I mean
Wow! This is a great historical opportunity! (The following caps are not mine.)

So, we should nominate the mailman or the trash collector or some rock star to have more life experiences??? Sheer Idiocy. But what else would you expect from this creep.
And raising children gives a mother a constant diversity of interactions and experiences that change daily.
” Ramussen undersampled Dems and oversampled Indies ”
BS, lisab is back to her usual ways.
Pollster don’t use the SOS registration numbers, often they are outdated. And they take into account how many actually voted in past elections, just because 44% of NC might be registered Ds they could vote at a lower rate than Rs.
southern Dems lean to vote GOP in federal elections, thats why youll see southern red states w/ local Dems in control or w/ a big presecence in the local politics
” We had a chance with Gov Perry, until those people in Iowa screwed us”
Marv, I know its painful to remember, but Perry screwed himself, it wasn’t the people of Iowa.
He was woefully unprepared and it showed from the get go. I blame his handlers for not identifying his weaknesses before he got out into the fray.
The Sherman tank sucked. There were just alot of them.
If it makes you feel better Marv, I think he’s a bit more prepared if he decides to run the next election cycle.
You can see how it worked out for Mitt
Marv….is that because the Germans manufactured a much better tank?
136…not strange at all. The last GOP candidate who hailed from the northeast was Geo H. W. Bush. He won NH 62/36 over Dutaxus who was from Massachusetts. As it was, GHW Bush was hindered by Dutaxus being from next door. GHW Bush did BETTER in NH than Reagan did on his first try. George W. Bush was definitely Texas material and not Maine material, and even he won the state 48/47 in his first try. Barely lost it the second time, but again with Kerry on the ballot, was hurt by the regional candidate. Obama had ALL the wind at his back, McCain was NOT a northeast type candidate, and so Obama won 54/45. Expect those numbers IN REVERSE this fall. Romney is definitely a NH/Northeast kind of guy, and the granite state will be ready to move on from Obama. There are no HUGE urban centers in NH full of welfare blacks who will show up to bail out Obama.
Oklahoma is like the 2nd or 3rd most Republican state if you look at results, yet party registration is 49-40 Democrats.
148…that was a “checkmate” post if there ever was one.
#148 – Really? I knew Oklahoma was pretty red, but those registration numbers are surprising.
#146 Doolittle,
I won’t go to any museum that displays a Sherman Tank because, Gen Sherman was a war criminal.
Maryland Party Breakdown is weird
Democrats – 56%
Republicans – 28%
Independents – 16%
Romney would have to win 25% of Democrats and 65% independents to win Maryland, yikes.
Only losers are war criminals, Marv. We discussed this already.
I suppose had we won the Vietnam War Lt William Calley would have been a hero then?
A Positive Sign
Two pro-life groups endorse Romney
GOP presidential front-runner Mitt Romney got back-to-back endorsements from prominent pro-life groups Thursday, signaling that anti-abortion forces will overlook his previous pro-choice positions in their shared desire to defeat President Obama in the general election.
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2012/apr/12/two-pro-life-groups-endorse-romney/
#153 Bitterlaw,
I don’t recognize the Surrender at Appomattox, and none of my friends do either.
#154
All those people were Viet Cong.
#156 – Your identification as part of the United States says that, by default, you do.
I am interested in lisab’s analysis of my comments in 147. Do you concur?
Perry needed a better immigration stance when he entered the race, the idea that Republicans “didn’t care about it” was only believed by HD and Sam. That alone cost him a lot of support.
Then he tanked in the debates and there were a lot of excuses, back pain, drugs, not a good debater, etc.
Finally, his plans were not that well thought out and failed to get any traction.
Marv is loyal to the Confederacy and to Perry. Nobody is perfect.
#158 Barrett,
Lee never actually surrendered to Grant. It was misreported by the press at the time and the liberals in the US public education system have taught that fairy tail ever since. All of my friends at the meeting the other night agreed with me on this.
#160…100% correct!
I am not a big fan of having a woman on the ticket anymore. The only two times have been a disaster.
Still, I think the GOP should NEVER have two white guys on the ticket EVER AGAIN.
So I am all for putting a Hispanic like Marco Rubio on the ticket to wreak havoc in Florida, the Southwest, and elsewhere.
A Romney/McDonnell ticket, or the like, would probably lose.
The times have changed and are continuing to change. The GOP must bow to political reality. No more two white guy tickets.
I don’t recognize the Surrender at Appomattox – Marv
marv- it wasn’t really a surrender. Lee actually said, “You kicked my ass.” Translating tyhat phrase into English without that annoying Southern dialect was imprecise.
I am willing to give 2 to 1 odds that Romney doesn’t exceed 330 EVs in his best scenario. All for charity. I think Dio and Pitch (who I am already going to collect from in Nov) should be willing to wager something.
I am willing to give 3-1 odds that Add takes that bet and then changes terms 5 times before backing out.
MD, I would not be willing to wager Romney getting more than 306 EVs. Could he? Sure, but I wouldn’t wager any more than that.
Bitterlaw,
None of my friends would agree with you.
My comment about Add is not personal. I am still the only person who offered to give him a bone marrow transplant if he needed it.
Do any of you have any idea how I can stop slicing my Driver and pullling my Irons?
Give up golf. I did.
Did you offer to pay for his Thorazine? That would be a true act of kindness.
171 – go back to the basics. It is your swing plane that is the problem. Forget all the grip crap. Shorten your backswing until you correct the issue. Go on-line and find the techniques for practicing the correct swing plane.
#172 Bitterlaw,
The golf course is one of the places left in this country where men can go and avoid people like Barney Frank and Hilliary Rosen. I refuse to give it up
Add is a crazy mf-er but I don’t want people to think my view is based on personal animosity.
I was so bad at golf, it really didn’t matter which end of the club I held. My goal for a “good” round was to come home with more golf balls than I left with. I usually did. All that time roaming the tall grass, you find quite a few. I even once found a really nice pitching wedge in there.
Christie better keep that high approval rating:

I will wait until May jobs numbers come out. Too early to see. If the 120k was a statistical aberration instead of a return to form for Obamanomics, I will recant somewhat. At this point I see Obama at 40% to win and dipping to 33% if the jobs numbers stay at 100-150k for the next 2 months.
A Republican can break 350 if our voter registration reforms stay in place in WI and a few other purplish states. Otherwise, I think the Romney campaign may go for a clean win rather than the risky one.
FOX NEWS: Newt ‘auditioning for a gig at CNN’…
MD,
The Golf Channel has some pretty good instructional programs. I’ve been watching Anikka Sorenstam’s lessons.
She has the perfect repeatable swing which does not break down under pressure.
If I were a member of Augusta National, I would actually consider inviting her to join.
I would like golf more if I could leave the clubs and just drive around the course. It’s pretty near the water hazards.
Bitter – I enjoy personal attacks myself. I consider myself the “Don Rickles” of this blog. Like he can do racist comedy, I am grandfathered in and thus allowed to do personal attacks (although definitely NOT racist). I know it is not PC here anymore to attack someone personally. I am the exception given my long tenure.
Our republic is really screwed if someone with Obama’s terrible record in managing the economy and in pushing foward a deeply unpopular legislative agenda is able to hold the Republicans down to a bare-minimum victory.
Romney may very well be our last hope if that happens. The brand needs to be rebuilt.
I wonder how long it will be before SUSYQUE misinterprets my generous offer to give Add bone marrow to mean he really does have cancer. Start counting . . . now!

46/44 was the actual number
180 – I had that yesterday. It is obvious. Given the fact that he is a liberal, CNN would be a good outlet for him. Newt is sad.
MD – I know that you want people to think you are a tough guy but I know the truth. Add told me that you offered to share some of your estrogen replacement therapy with him.
DW – But Melissa said a Romney lead means that Obama is winning. What is going on?
Get set for PA WI to flip. I believe NC FL and IN and VA are done deals for the most part. Obama is at 45 right now with half decent pollsters and will barely make 48
“My goal for a “good” round was to come home with more golf balls than I left with. I usually did. All that time roaming the tall grass, you find quite a few.”
-I haven’t bought golf balls since my 16th birthday, when I played a new course in Cape Cod, Ma. Unless of course you consider paying to be in a golf outing paying for the balls they give you. I exclude the balls, seeing as how I bring my own to-go containers for the buffet. Gotta feed the family somehow!
190 – wanna make another bet? See above.
Believe Jindal and Rubio are young and articulate and highly acceptable to socons who need to turn out. Besides they will run circles around Bozo Biden
186 – I suspect the other # assigned leaners to one candidate or the other. That info is still behing the paywall.
MD. My bet still stands thing is if I win HHR is happy. If I lose only you are happy out here
it looks like the fox poll is correct. mitt has the national lead. the state polls usually reflect the national polls.
mitt/rubio!
MD is not meant to be happy. He really only has 2 moods – angry and not as angry.
I am sure, like all men, he has a third one. But only Mrs. MD gets to see it.
Fox News, poll on Obamacare:

Sounds good to me…
President JesusUnicornMessiah is at 60.9 on Intrade
Looks like a screaming short to me (although I am not giving investment advice with this!)
Bunu and Tim are quiet today…I like it
Author, are the AceofSpades people coming to grips with Mitt?
HotAir and RightWingNews still seem to be struggling…
” Do any of you have any idea how I can stop slicing my Driver and pullling my Irons?”
I gave up on drivers unless the fairway is a mile wide. My score improved tremendously. For me, the extra distance did not compensate for the errant shots. Since I am pretty good with a 5 iron or above I can consistently get to the greens to putt for par.
Basically I gave up on birdies but it was a case of knowing my limitations.
I like Pitchaboy’s analysis. I don’t know if he is right, but considering the state of the country, he SHOULD be right.
Pitch – I would be happy to be wrong. If I am right, I give a lot of money to charity anyway so it doesn’t kill me. I would rather be wrong.
” I am sure, like all men, he has a third one. But only Mrs. MD gets to see it.”
I only have two.
What are we talking about?
Yeah, MD, I am thinking of betting a sh–load of money on Obama to win.
If he loses, I will be happy as a pig in slop. I won’t care about the money.
If he wins, I will have some money to pay more taxes and stock up on booze.
That is good advice by jason Marv. Try a 5 or 6 wood unless. Also take the 3 and 4 iron out of the bag for a while.
What’s a 3 iron?
Re North Korea.
They are broke. But they are building rockets and nukes.
People are starving. We are giving them food.
So basically we are financing the rockets and nukes because otherwise they would have to invest some of this money in food.
I call for hearings. Like Solyndra, this investment has been a failure, the rocket exploded.
@204 theyve come to grips with it overall, AOS isn’t kooky like HA and others. btw I lurked HA today and they seem to be coming to grips with it too. This Mommygate thing has speed up the base support rate
On HA there are two headlines negative on Ann Romney, one pro Newt, one negative on Romney, and a hatchet job on Orrin Hatch.
There is one anti-North Korea, one negative on Obama.
I would say yes, they are having difficulty coming to terms.
#205 jason,
Do you use a Fairway Metal (3 wood) off the tee?
What’s a 3 iron?
-I drive with my 2-Iron. As straight as an arrow!!
it’s the 2nd/3rd shots that are the problem, and the putting. You know, just about everything else!
Gronk volunteers to #%^* Tebow
http://boston.cbslocal.com/2012/04/13/gronkowski-would-do-what-with-tim-tebow/
“I would ‘F’ Tebow, to take his virginity,” Gronk told the audience.
#216 NYCmike,
A two iron? I dumped that for a Ping 18 degree hybrid a long time ago.
jason, that’s the point I was trying to make about North Korea above. We could give them 50 billion for food, and the people would be just as hungry, but they would have 50 billion toward better weapons.
Marv,
I don’t pay for golf balls, I am going to buy new clubs??? If I hit my persimmon woods well, I literally hit it “on the screws”!
Gronkowski has shown what type of person he is already. Not surprised by what he said.
I still have a 2 iron that my grandfather gave me. It was produced by McGregor under the Jack Nicklaus banner. I think it was made around 1972. It really is one of the best clubs in my bags. Today, it would probably be considered to be a 5 iron. I can get 200 to 210 off the tee, straight as an arrow. I use it when I am not hitting the woods well.
I did hit a drive 285 yards when I was in Vegas. I have finally learned how to hit my new driver.
215. Yeah, although on short par 4′s I tee off with a 5 iron. I am pretty much guaranteed to hit a second shot from the middle of the fairway and chip to the green. At my level that’s about the best I can ask for.
I have a few golf clubs from my grandfather from the 1940s – when woods were wood and irons were irons.
i have no golf clubs
223…MD, that is exactly the brand of Pitching Wedge I found once when I was digging through the tall grass. It was a MacGregor manufactured wedge, with the Jack Nicklaus signature on it. It was a beautiful club that had a tremendous balance to it. I recently sold it for $30.
i think 225 is my longest drive
224 – Any par 4 less than 350 yards, that is a smart move. Since most of us don’t play from the back tees we usually get a few of them per round. Also par 5′s less than 500 yards.
When I was in college, one of my roomates was actually on the golf team. A round for us was just another reason to get drunk. We swung for the fences on every swing and had no idea which club to use when. To prove a point to us, my roommate played a round with us and used 3 clubs only – a 5 iron, pitching wedge and putter. He shot an 81. I think I shot around 120.
Bitter – I have quite a few of the old, real wood clubs in my garage. I wouldn’t use any of them on the course but they are neat to look at.
sorry to interrupt a golf discussion. I have made some changes to my POTUS outlook:
Lock R: (120) OK WY UT ID AL AK AR LA KS NE TN KY MS TX
Safe R: (39) WV SC SD ND MT GA
Likely R: (21) MO IN
Leans R: (11) AZ
Wobbly R: (61) FL NH NC VA
Wobbly D: (44) OH IA PA
Leans D: (45) WI MI CO NV ME MN NM
Likely D: (36) OR NJ CT WA
Safe D: (30) MA IL DE
Lock D: (124) CA MD RI NY VT HI DC
Realistic assessment DW. Now, I want to hear from the 350ers.
Still use wood woods. If I use newer drivers, with their lighter weights, I end up swinging too hard. All mental.
The best I ever played was when I lived on the West Coast, played 3 – 4 rounds a week. I was consistently shooting between 84 – 90. Shot an 81 once, 40 on the front, and then an 8 on the 18th to give me a 41 for the back. I should not have been keeping track of my score. Again, ALL MENTAL!
OBAMA CONFRONTED BY LOCAL REPORTER ABOUT NON-STOP (AND EXPENSIVE) FIRST FAMILY VACATIONS
(The president gets irked!)
http://www.theblaze.com/stories/obama-confronted-by-local-reporter-about-non-stop-and-expensive-first-family-vacations/
232…well, its my grid as to where the race is right now. I fully expect NH to spend most of the summer in Likely R or Lean R for instance. I just cannot move it until I have more data. But no matter what, 350 is simply out of reach. 306 is as high as I would go unless it is revealed that Obama has close friends who are racists…wait…I mean unless Obama says “white folks greed runs a world in need”…wait…I mean 306 is as high as I would go.
You’re all a bunch of hackers. Cast iron clubs with hickory shafts are for men. Do you hit from the ladies’ tees?
What a fool to say a woman with five children never worked a day in her life. The ignorance of the left never ceases to amaze me.
237…it is completely idiotic. I mean the left would praise a single mom who worked 60 hours a week cooking food at a restraunt and doing laundry at a hotel, while gov’t childcare raised her kids, but a mom who works 60 hours a week cooking food at her home for her kids and doing laundy for her husband and kids is a dope who doesn’t know anything about the real world. Cooking food is cooking food and doing laundry is doing laundry. Work is work. Unless it violates the ideals of a marxist utopia.
A Marxist Utopia is totally different than a Socialist Utopia.
Obama campaign desperately trying to make Romney’s tax returns an issue once again. They want him to release everything since the 70′s.
Romney should demand Obama release his college transcripts and thesis paper.
We need to get back to the issues that are really important – like how many houses and cars the Romney’s own.
240 – exactly jan. We need to fight fire with fire. Too often, we ignore that.
Just imagine the topic of some of Obama’s college papers:

285 yards off the tee in Las Vegas…….OK, you can fool the uninitiated around here, but you can’t fool me. The field elevation at Las Vegas McCarran International is 2181′………it was probably hot too, right? No wonder you hit that ball that far.

Just listened to a great speech at the NRA given by Romney on our freedoms and how ooo has and is taking them away, and why we have to stop him. It was well delivered with substance as he listed three main freedoms that ooo is taking away. Constitutional freedom; Religious freedom, and financial freedom. He expounded on each one.
We are blessed to have this man represent us as the nominee for President of the USA. Get used to the name: President Mitt Romney!
247 – I knew I wouldn’t get that by you! Subtract 25 yards and that is how it would have played under normal conditions.
Although it wasn’t very hot when we played. Low 70′s.
SQ – yea, he has been given that standard stump speech for a while. It is a very conservative speech. However, some would rather support Newt and forget about the 20 different ways he acted as a liberal.
On DailYKos( Don’t ask me why I like to hang out there) they had this front page post titled “How much will negative advertising affect Obama?” By Markos himself. He compares the negative attacks to the Ohio Senate Race which seems very stupid since neither Brown and especially Mandel are in full campaign mode and surprise, surprise Markos comes to the conclusion that nothing negative will affect Obama.
Me thinks Markos will be very surprised come election day or will he. Remember this is the man who funded R2K polling and pretended not to know that they were fake. Even wrote a book on their finding about conservatives.
How’s that lawsuit against R2K going Markos, the point you said you were going to file?
Romney should demand Obama release his college transcripts and thesis paper.

Absurd and a complete waste of time. Why not bring up the birth certificate again?
252….its like I was saying the other day…it reminds me of the battle between William Henry Harrison and Martin VanBuren. People were willing to believe that Harrison was a frontiersman living in a log cabin and drinking hard cider and VanBuren was an elitist priveledged son, when the truth was just the opposite. Harrison was a wealthy Virginia aristocrat, and VanBuren was raised in poverty.
But people sometimes believe what they want to believe regardless the facts.
Obama already released that Bitter.
Of course it is mistakenly believed that Harrison was the functional president for four weeks. He did hold the title, but in reality the Whig party’s power was Henry Clay, who was actually calling the shots. Harrison was going to just be a puppet.
After Harrison died four weeks into his presidency, and Tyler assumed the high office, Tyler was stunned to learn at the first cabinet meeting that Harrison had agreed that every decision the president would make was actually based on the vote of the cabinet–over which Clay held sway.
Tyler promptly let them know that they advised, but HE was president.
Who cares what he studied in college. I don’t care what anybody studied in college. If we’re down to asking about college grades we are screwed.
258..you may have a point, and besides, we kind of know what his papers might have contained based on how he has governed. Just look at the proposed paper titles I included above.
Bitter – I disagree. I would only go there if Obama pulls his “he should release all his tax info since the 70′s” crap. Purely a defensive move.
Then you go right back to the economy.
#258 Bitterlaw,
The point of asking for Barack’s college transcripts is to show that he entered Occidental College on a Fulbright Schlarship, which, as I am certain you know, is for foreign students.
If he attempted to redact that from his transcripts, he would be found out…..in much that same way that it was demonstrated that the birth certificate he produced is a forgery.
The Romney campaign will probaly be something like this…….Obama ruined the economy, I can fix it……Obama wants to steal your money, I want you to have a job and keep most of your money…….Obama bows to Muslim Kings, I will reinvigorate the United States military………….(BTW, Obama is probably a fraud.)
I agree with MD……Romney only presses Obama on the college transcripts issue if Obama pesters him on the tax return deal.
marv, I do still wonder how it is that that Abercrombie became the HI gov, and promptly went to the hospital to get the birth certificate and came away shrugging his shoulders saying he couldn’t find it, only then to have several weeks later Obama suddenly produce it.
The only way to beat Democrats is to be aggressive with them. God know they will be aggressive with Republicans.
#265 DW,
American Thinker ran several articles on the matter over that last several days. A close read of them leaves me with serious doubts as to what Obama’s background actually is. I suspect that a Gov Romney win will embolden conservative authors to actually go find out Obama’s real story and write books on the subject.
Gov Romney can beat Obama without having to expose him for the fraud that he probably is. Obama’s performance in office is enough of an indictment.
The 350ers contend that the realistic guys are basing projections on a bunch of crooked, highly slanted dem polls for the states. This will be a wave election against the dems and all the wobbly R and D will go R.
263
Yes, and that is all he has to do. Over and over again.
pitch electionprojection has it 332/206 Obama with it 50/48 popular vote. But you are right the college polls and PPP are slanting the outlook. But I suspect right now just out of the primary Obama has a slight edge.
NT
268 – the wave was in 10. This is not 10. By the way, I did predict the wave in Feb of 09. This will NOT be a wave election. I am willing to put my money on that.
