I think that Chiefs, Bengals, Colts, Dolphins, Patriots, Giants, Eagles, Panthers. For 1 games.
Texans, Redskins, Cowboys, Steelers, Chargers, 49ers will win other games I think

I am at odds with Dave on the Baltimore vs. Philidelphia, Kansas City vs. Buffalo, Jets vs. Pittsburgh.

    Yes Michael…

  23. jason says:

I think FMWB is right and WNEPJ is wrong, but that is just me.

Ok, actually I think Romney is down more than one in Michigan and Brown is not losing to Warren in MA.

  24. W.PA Observer says:

The Michigan poll has interesting crosstabs- D +8. They adjusted based on sample (the original respondents of 18-30 were only 3 percent, so they upped it to 16 percent weighted, Afr.-Amers were 6.5 percent, so they upped it to almost 20) What was the percentage of the AA vote in Michigan in 2008? How much has the population of Detroit declined since then?

28 – I don’t have the voting figure, but the 2010 census says MI is 14.3% AA. I would be surprised to see 2012 TO higher than that figure.

  31. Sy says:

If the MI poll is accurate come November 6th, Romney will be president.

  32. Sean says:

Looks like there’s a funky data point in the sample (the one that appeared yesterday) that had most of the undecideds breaking to Obama.

  33. W.PA Observer says:

34- There’s a reason Romney (starting with) the PACs are going full bore in Michigan starting this week- they have to see some movement to Mitt there.

  34. Jenny - RED POLLS says:

The MSM is in full meltdown mode because the can’t controll the foreign media. This is a huge black eye on Islam and they are trying to keep that narrative from taking hold nbut the foreign is not cooperating.

On the Romney up big in Kentucky poll, I’m amused by the paper’s bluntness in quoting a Dem KY operative, “blamed Obama’s poor polling numbers on racism.” You know, because John Kerry did so well there.

  36. Michael says:

    @39 lol right….

  37. jason says:

” I’ve been coming here for 8 years..

    Not going anywhere… ”

Good. I am glad you are staying.

    Now stop whining.

  38. W.PA Observer says:

It’s good to see Romney racking up big numbers in Red territory, helps pick off some of the remaining competitive Dem CDs down-ballot and pads the national numbers. .

  39. Hunter says:

    Awww Jason….

    Feelings hurt?…

    Take your own advice…

Don’t read my posts and move on…

  40. Wobbles says:

Joe Scarborough said that Romney’s statement “prevented” the media from properly covering the events in the ME.

    LOL

  41. jason says:

I am glad Dave already has picked the winner for Green Bay AT Chicago, with a categorical “already won this won”.

    Good pick.

  42. Wobbles says:

Maybe the football updates (scores) can be posted in a separate thread.

Of course, the Cutler sucks posts can continue as is.

  43. jason says:

” Don’t read my posts and move on…”

    I am an optimist.

I keep reading them, someday it might be something interesting or relevant.

    Hope springs eternal.

  44. Bitterlaw says:

Hunter – Do you think Lafayette can hang with Lehigh all season? Will Bucknell be the real powerhouse or can Georgetown make some noise?

  45. Scott says:

    Frank
What is the distinction between the Swing State numbers in your posts #3&4 on this thread?

  46. jason says:

    ” Feelings hurt?… ‘

Btw, that was a low blow.

A-holes don’t have feelings, please don’t try to undermine me before my peers.

    No need for personal attacks.

  47. W.PA Observer says:

Well according to Ras it was 4 years ago now that Lehman’s collapsed and with it McCain’s chances. So we’re ahead of the game on that score at least, which is nice.

  48. jason says:

    “already won this won”.

Jesus, make that a triple expresso.

  49. clubber says:

The New York Times is disgusting.

  50. Hunter says:

    50…

    Ha ha ha…

    Nice…

  51. Scott says:

    #10- D. Cross
I would say that the bump in Obama’s #’s in the past two(2) days is nothing more than Ras’ difficulties with weekend polling!

  52. Jenny - RED POLLS says:

So now all of Obama’s failures are Mitt’s fault and all of the MSM’s failures are Mitt’s fault. Everything can be blamed on Mitt.

    Tee hee

  53. Hunter says:

    Bitter…

    I’m not sure…

    Interesting question, though…

  54. Howard Dean says:

Dem registered voter advantage in FL has shrunk by 250k at the end of July compared to 08.

  55. hugh says:

    http://www.cnn.com/2012/09/15/world/meast/libya-diplomats-warning/index.html?hpt=hp_t2

Maybe CNN is getting ready to start to report the middle east story straight up

  56. jason says:

Bitter I am sure you are following this.

Shurns and Cook are really playing well, confirming my pre-season analysis

QB Kyle Cook, Harrisburg’s defense rattles rival York in 38-14 triumph.

” Dominique Shurns rushed for three touchdowns and QB Kyle Cook added 178 passing yards as Harrisburg chased away the visiting Bearcats 38-14 Saturday at Severance Field. Shurns posted his scoring haul in the first 12 minutes as the Cougars (2-1) ran ahead 26-7 and never looked back.”

  57. Mr.Vito says:

I have to agree on the updates… imagine if everyone started posting updates of everything that suited their fancy.

  58. hugh says:

I am telling all of you FL will not be close. I worry about ohio alot. FL though is demographically set to hand a comfortable win to Mitt. The first day of early voting in downtown Fort Lauderdale I will do a drive by and announce the winner of FL. It will be that easy. If there is not a line around the block then a big part of O’s base has decided not to vote this time around.

  59. W.PA Observer says:

Also, an ad here from one of our most impressive Congressional candidates this cycle- Tom Cotton- running from the open seat in AR-4 ( I believe). The last Dem seat in Arkansas, and he’s favored to win it. Graduated Harvard Law, worked a year or two to pay off the loans, then joined the Army as a 2LT and fought in both Iraq and Afghanistan. He also wrote an open letter to the NYT in 2006 saying they’d committed espionage and aided the enemy in an article outing a program that secretly monitored terrorists’ finances.

  60. Mr.Vito says:

If we are just going to say you can skip the posts, then we are endorsing trolling and spamming.

  61. bio mom says:

55 Do not suggest a weekend polling effect. You will be attacked by chem dad.

  62. Mr.Vito says:

    Update…

If we are just going to say you can skip the posts, then we are endorsing trolling and spamming.

(will be updated every 5 minutes… if you don’t like it, then you can skip the posts)

  63. jason says:

We have always covered football here, so I see nothing wrong with the updates.

If someone was introducing curling or badminton updates I could see your point.

  64. Tim says:

    #62:
Fla. will not be close? So, all the polls are wrong?

  65. jason says:

We have always endorsed trolling, btw.

Trolls get what they most want here, attention.

  66. W.PA Observer says:

Look at the gains boys, look at the gains!

    http://www.naplesnews.com/photos/2012/aug/31/413859/

In 2008 the gains in FL were all with Dems, this time around it’s all GOP and Indies- the dems are shrinking.

  67. mnw says:

I think there’s room for Kate Upton updates, as well as sundry other non-political posts.

Economy; movies; football. Let a thousand flowers bloom, as Mao once said, just before chopping them all down.

  68. jason says:

Florida will be a lot more like Bush-Kerry than Obama-McCain.

  69. Michael says:

@67 thank you, after what I have read here on the thread I see no reason not to continue with the football updates.
Also, it looks like Gov. rounds will be asking on Sen. Johnson after all. We can already count one senate seat for Republicans there.

  70. Mr.Vito says:

    Update….

If we are just going to say you can skip the posts, then we are endorsing trolling and spamming.

(will be updated every 5 minutes… if you don’t like it, then you can skip the posts)

  71. Frank says:

    Scott,

    #3 is head-to-head R/D
#4 is job approval for the swing-state poll

    Frank

  72. Scott says:

    #68- Tim
Yes Tim, all the polls are wrong except for today’s MI and KY Polls!

  73. mnw says:

“We can already count one senate seat for Republicans there”

That’s what I thought about Sky Queen in MO, too. Would’ve bet my life on it.

Bunu’s “black swan” does swim by every now & then.

  74. Scott says:

    #75- Frank
Got it. Sorry to have imposed. I should have been able to figure it out by my lonesome.

Ras claims that without leaners,Romney is +8 with the Unaffiliated Voters. That being the case, then Obama must have a pretty sizable lead in maintaining his base. Correct?

  75. Michael says:

@77 I feel this will be more like Thompson/Wisconsin race rather than MO race.

  76. Mr.Vito says:

    Update…..

If we are just going to say you can skip the posts, then we are endorsing trolling and spamming.

(will be updated every 5 minutes… if you don’t like it, then you can skip the posts)

  77. jason says:

” So, all the polls are wrong?”

A 53-47 win for Romney would be within the MOE of most polls released for FL.

  79. Waingro says:

TRASH the WNEPI poll. Brown is up 57-35 in Indies and up 12 in Central Mass voters overall. She is toast.

  80. jason says:

    80. I like it.

    It has poetic balance.

  81. jason says:

” If someone was introducing curling or badminton updates I could see your point.”

I guess Hunter didn’t see the point.

  82. SusyQue says:

Obama’s Failed Record and Policies by Jennifer
    Rubin

President Obama’s failed record. “Perhaps the president and his aides are declinists, who think of the United States as too weak to act; perhaps they are indifferent; perhaps they are merely incompetent. In any event, this president will leave his successor a country that is considerably less secure than it was when he took the oath of office.”
    ……………………………..
There are dead Americans, an al-Qaeda flag flying above an embassy, and American flags and buildings burning. This is chaos. This is not the picture of an America more respected in the world. This is America cowering, uncertain what embassy will be hit next.
    ………………………………..
Egan-Jones Ratings Co. cut its credit rating for the U.S. one level to AA-, citing the potential for the Federal Reserve’s third round of large-scale asset purchases to weaken the dollar and drive up inflation.
U.S. debt to gross-domestic-product has risen to 104 percent from 66 percent in 2006, Egan-Jones said today in a report. The firm lowered the U.S. to AA in April. Yields on 10- year Treasuries have fallen five basis points since the end of that month to 1.86 percent.
The Fed’s latest program will “stoke the stock market and commodity prices, but in our opinion will hurt the U.S. economy and, by extension, credit quality,” Egan-Jones said. “The increased cost of commodities will pressure profitability of businesses, and increase the costs of consumers, thereby reducing consumer purchasing power.”
Mitt Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul responded to the development in an e-mail to me: “Under President Obama, our country has racked up a record breaking $16 trillion in debt and seen an unprecedented credit downgrade. President Obama’s wasteful spending has stunted our economic growth, slowed hiring and caused the recovery to stall.”

  87. NFL says:

  88. Jeff G. says:

That Michigan poll is D+9 (42/33/25). Does anyone know if that’s reasonable for there?

  89. NFL says:

  90. jason says:

” Apparently ESPN has added a bunch more so-called experts to their weekly contest that I am going to have to compete with. Unlike the normal seven of eight they have had for years, there are 12 ESPN personalities making picks this year. Right now, I am tied for third place.”

Hey, Hunter, the owner of the blog seems to like football.

Why don’t you write him and ask him to ban updates on football.

Maybe he will and you can be happy. Or maybe he will tell you to mind your own business. Or maybe he will ignore you.

    Worth a shot.

  91. Hunter says:

  96. Robbie says:

I just watched Brit Hume on Fox News Sunday. He said Romney may well get the referendum of Obama he wanted, but still lose because he hasn’t made the policy case for himself.

He prefaced that comment by saying Romney has the presidential temprement down and also the acceptablility as a family man the public wants.

He said that while their may be the desire to fire the incumbent, the challenger still has to give the public reason to hire him.

    That’s it..

    I get that…

Not every 15 minutes on a conference maybe 5 people care about…

Honestly, I have a friggin smart phone and computer…

Don’t need to come here for Big Ten updates every 15 minutes…

    That’s my point…

jason – Harrisburg is the real deal. They draw from the City of Harrisburg – the only place outside Philadelphia with a large AA population (I know some NFL players came out of there). With these numbers and with a R+1 Party ID, Romney should be ahead a lot more in today’s RAS’ polling.Did Ras change Party ID again?

  124. jason says:

Morons can go ahead and pretend that posting the NFL and major college game updates is the same as posting the local high school menu.

Personally, I think we should up the standards for hall monitors.

While we have quantity, we don’t have quality.

  125. John says:

    a) lying

    or

    b)self deluding.

    Real strong statement by Ras.

The KY poll is nice but not adequate. Look at KY results for 2000,2004,2008. Basically, anything over 40% for O would indicate benefit in his direction. In fact, since the state reports early (6 PM) and fairly quickly – this election night result will be better than any exit poll on election day. If O is less than 40% in KY – game on. Less than 39%, R likely wins. If O is over 41%, O likely wins.

    Comment by jason — September 16, 2012 @ 11:09 am

And yet you’ve argued for months this election was all about Obama and nothing else. Now when someone you seem to sort of respect says Romney must make a specific case for his policies, your response is “yawnnnnnn”?

Of course, Brit Hume is right. And Romney shouldn’t be afraid that offering economic specifics will give ammo to the press. Scott Walker ran on specifics even though the media wanted his scalp and he won by a larger margin in the recall than his did the first time around.

If Walker can beat the press in a modeestly blue state on specifics, Romney can easily do the same.

#100…Thanks for the info…it’s exactly the kind of report I detest….a dissing of Mitt Rommey, as if he were a dunce. Bret always plays it one foot on the fence and one foot off. O’Reilly does the same thing. I am not impressed with Fox polls because they have become less conservative by trying to be “fair and balanced.” There are many times when they have 3 people to discuss a topic. Two are lefties and one is a conservitive.

Mitt Romney will be our 45th president!

I am sorry Brandon, that this blog is not exclusively dedicated to what you might find interesting.

I hope you can live with the disappointment.

  174. MFG says:

Marv, I have a question for you that I KNOW you’ll know

When a team blocks a PAT and returns it all the way for 2 points, what is that CALLED?

It doesn’t seem to have a name like the scoring plays (touchdown, field goal, safety, point after touchdown, two point conversion)

What the hell is that called?

  175. MD says:

Obama won popular vote handily in 2008 picked up 41.2% (Nader at .8%%).

I also wouldn’t be suprised at all if Ras did readjust his weights (he does every month) and this month they show a slight D advantage in the weights. The DNC did happen at the start of the month after all, and probably would affect (increase) the D participation. That effect is sure to be temporary.

Yes the numbers and head to head, and recent history might make you think that the Cowboys are an easy fix. But this is IN SEATTLE

Even last year’s Seahawks team were able to beat the Ravens *in* *Seattle* because Seattle is a notoriously tough places to play.

My personal feeling is that anyone that bets against Seattle as a home dog is a fool. Either bet with Seattle if they are a home dog or stay away from that action. Seattle is a totally different team at home.

  324. bio mom says:

The Fox panel has been saying the same thing for weeks. Nothing new. I look at Romney as the tortoise in this race with Obama the hare. I think there is a good chance that the tortoise will win by being slow and steady and ignoring the contradictory advice he gets from left and right. He will make longer speeches soon on domestic and foreign policy. Cannot do that in an interview. He also has detailed info at his website.

  325. Hunter says:

Dung beetles are beetles that feed partly or exclusively on feces. All of these species belong to the superfamily Scarabaeoidea; most of them to the subfamilies Scarabaeinae and Aphodiinae of the family Scarabaeidae. This beetle can also be referred to as the scarab beetle. As most species of Scarabaeinae feed exclusively on feces, that subfamily is often dubbed true dung beetles. There are dung-feeding beetles which belong to other families, such as the Geotrupidae (the earth-boring dung beetle). The Scarabaeinae alone comprises more than 5,000 species.[1]
Many dung beetles, known as rollers, are noted for rolling dung into round balls, which are used as a food source or brooding chambers. Other dung beetles, known as tunnelers, bury the dung wherever they find it. A third group, the dwellers, neither roll nor burrow: they simply live in manure. They are often attracted by the dung burrowing owls collect.

  359. Ray says:

#276/Marv: I’m not platinum so haven’t been tracking leaners.

One pattern I’ve picked up with Gallup & Rasmussen is Monday night polling appears to favor Obama (JA & H2H) moreso than other nights of the week. The “weekend effect” seems to actually be offset a day though Sunday #s favor Obama a little more modestly. This is based on nightly tracking from 8/1 – on (caveat: based on estimates of nightly #s)

  360. Marv says:

    Polaris,

Ash looked great at Ole Miss last night. The Longhorns dominated a fairly solid 3-0 Rebel team.

  361. Polaris says:

#368 I am less happy with that win than you are. Yes, Ash looked great and Texas’ offense hasn’t looked that good in a long time.

However, Texas is supposed to have a great defense this year, and apparently they took the day off. Giving up 31 points (and nearly 400 years) is inexcusable. In fairness 7 of those 31 was a special-teams error but still…..there is a lot of work to be done before the OSU Big-12 opener.

    It shows, especially on defense.

  366. Marv says:

    Polaris,

The Texas defense had a bad sample roll on Saturday night. It was strictly a weekend anomaly, which will correct itself (during practice) over the next several week days.

  367. Polaris says:

#374 Let’s hope so. The new Texas offensive style depends on what happened last night to be an anomaly.

  375. not sure I can marv. this race is nuts. economic factors and historical trends point to to a Romney win but polls say something else. Ras has had a crazy fluctuating race w/ no one settling to a lead. RCP is picking and choosing polls, and pollsters are outright saying they believe an 08 electorate is happening even though surveys show otherwise. i’m with MD right now, this race is too close to call but if forced to make a choice TODAY, I say Obama wins a nail-bitter and we take back the Senate.

  376. Ray says:

I have Gallup holding at 49-45 unless one of them put up a big night. Looks like an O+3ish day rolls off.

  377. Pitchaboy says:

Marv everything will be okay. This time in 2008 the fat lady was singing. Romney needs to close the sale by any decent polling he is tied in the swing states. Go watch your game while I watch the Eagles get their usual and customary beating

  400. MD i’d say it was more then just Brady. The commissioner was visiting the Pats like they were somehow more special then other teams. the NFL Films President said outright in an interview that they were rooting for the Pats and they made sure to get more film of them then any other team.

The 2004 debates are a perfect example of how important people think they are, and how little influence they actually have. A plurality of Americans felt Kerry won all three debates, but the debates didn’t help Kerry at all.

Romney is a decent debater. Certainly better than McCain. However, I dont expect much change one way or the other from the debates. I think Romney’s best chance to win this whole thing is to keep doing what he is doing, and let the bad foreign/economic news wash over the electorate for the next seven weeks.

  444. Polaris says:

#450 They have nothing to do with each other. In an RV poll, you screen your respondants and throw out all respondants that aren’t registered to vote. In an LV poll, you do the above AND you ask a serious of questions designed to gauge how likely they are to really vote, and only those that pass this additional screen are counted.

Because people can change their partisanship, there are many pollsters who will not correct their samples for partiasn or idealogical weights (Gallup is one).

However many pollsters have empirically discovered what I have been saying for years (and what PEW polling has confirmed). Although people CAN change their partisan preferences, they don’t (at least not very quickly….it’s something that usually takes years), and as such they weight for the Partisan (or what we call DRI) distribution as though it were a hard demographic like gender, ethnicity, and age (which all pollsters adjust their weights for to reflect the population as a whole).

    I hope this helps.

layoffs and plant closings are quickening. The economy is bad and getting worse. The stock market in many cases moves in the oppisite direction as the economy does. When people are hiring there is a chance of inflation and higher rates. The market is telling us that the economy stinks and there the lack of jobs will keep inflation low.

That’s great if you are a 1% percenter but middle class people can look for flat wages and a lower standard of living as jobs are hard to find and raises are low.

I agree that is the narrative of the MSM/WH, but it seems to be effecting Romney’s narrative as well. He came out strong after the attacks, and now seems to have softened his stance. As I understand it he was going to come out with a foreign policy speech, and now people are saying he has none planned in the near future. So, it’s hard to know what gives with him.

  598. Mr.Vito says:

Guess so. It’s hard to tell with the 15 minute updates…

    what will I do????

  599. janz says:

    Wobbles

It’s hard to say how much this has hurt Obama or not. In the past people tend to rally around the encumbent during times of crisis.

However, this could be different, especially if it can be proven and broadcast to the people that the WH had it’s head in the sand when it came to interpreting and processing info and trends in the ME, where they could have been better prepared for this incident.

  600. janz says:

  603. jason says:

Janz, I have seen nothing to substantiate your claim that Romney cancelled a foreign policy speech.

Sounds like more MSM bs to me.

  604. Scooter Boy says:

Now Rams score a touchdown with the ball clearly across the line and they rule it down. This is getting ugly.

  605. phoenixrisen says:

#604 completely disagree Jan. When the embassy attacks happened and it was found out how unfortified they were and how weak and inept the White House response was, it hurt Obama bad. The poll numbers bear that out Foreign policy was supposed to be one of Obama’s strong suits in the election. Now that is in tatters.

OT, that latest poll out of Michigan doesn’t surprise me. I know why O’s lead has dissipated there and Romney and the SuperPACs making a very aggressive advertising play there shows blood in the water.

Romney has very strong ground games in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. I think he has invested in Pennsylvania to force Obama not to ignore it. If Obama poo poos PA, it could really bite him in the butt.

I am curious what the registration numbers have been like in Michigan since 2008. If Michigan reverts back to D+5 as in 2004, Romney has a VERY good chance of flipping Michigan.

  606. bonncaruso says:

The Foster McCollum poll has more specific data than Dave provided.

    The exact numbers:

    Obama 45.49%
    Romney 43.65%
    Other / Undecided 10.86%

Margin: Obama +1.84%, which is a lot closer to +2 than it is to +1.

That is a +5.64% shift TOWARD Obama since the last Foster McCollum poll, which was released on 20 Aug 2012.

  609. janz says:

    jason

I believe I heard that on Fox news, about Romney coming out with a foreign policy speech. However, there are lots of cross current news reporting going on right now, much of it in the protective mode towards Obama.

I do think, though, that since Romney opened the door with his immediate response to the Libyan incident, it would be wise to follow through on it with some kind of policy perimeters that would be emphasized in a Romney administration, providing a contrast of goals and ideas, instead of simply ‘crickets.’

  610. jason says:

Hey Bonatrollo, 43.65% is rounded to 44 and 45.49% is rounded to 44%.

    Those ARE the real numbers.

And furthermore, with the MOE, Romney could well be ahead.

    Nice try, moron.

  611. jason says:

45.49% is rounded to 45% I should say.

  612. jason says:

    That is quite a difference.
