Canadian Election
I need to start paying attention to what is happening up in Canada. There appears to be a mini Conservative Revolution underway. The latest poll from SES Research now has the Conservative Party in the lead. I have no idea how reliable they are, but Bloomberg news seems to think they are reliable enough to report their results.
COnservatives 35%
Liberals 31%
The other parties weren’t listed in the article. This poll is part of a tracking poll and represents the days June 5-7.

No. There’s no “revolution” going on. It’s just that the Liberals have been in power for eleven years, they’re corrupt, and people are sick of them.
In 1991, the Progressive Conservative party split in two, and the western branch, the Reform party, did rather well in the elections two years later. However, in that elections, the PC party went from a majority to TWO seats in the House of commons. With a split party, the Conservatives never had a chance to get back power back in the next two elections.
Also, the secessionists in Quebec are set to make a comback taking up to seventy seats.
The chances of nobody having enough seats to form a stable minority government are getting slimmer by the hour, however….
They’re having debates next week. These debates, like those down here, are going to be crucial. With all the Reagan nostalgia going on just now, we should remember that the morning of the 1980 debate, Carter was ahead nationally and looking to a small landslide.
Things are in flux in the great white north, as as of now, anything can happen.
a good site with most of the polls is here: http://www.nodice.ca/election2004/polls.html
From what I gather there are two other major parties in Canada that take up nearly 20 percent of the vote. I’d assume they’d be so major as to make this poll moot, although I’m obviously not highly educated in this area.
If a conservative government is formed, it could help Bush by having additional international support. It could further erode Kerry’s claim of destroyed international relations.
