Dead Heat in Two-Way, Three-Way Races in VA

We are nine days into 2013 and we already have our first poll conflict of the year. Yesterday, Public Policy Polling claimed terry McAuliffe held a 5% lead in a two-way race and an 8% lead in a three-way race. This morning, Quinnipiac University shows a much closer race in both cases.

GOVERNOR – VIRGINIA (Quinnipiac)
Terry McAuliffe (D) 40%
Ken Cuccinelli (R) 39%

GOVERNOR – VIRGINIA w/Bolling (PPP)
Terry McAuliffe (D) 34%
Ken Cuccinelli (R) 34%
Bill Bolling (I) 13%

This poll was done January 4-7 among 1134 registered voters. This is the second poll showing Bolling well behind both Cuccinelli and McAuliffe which starts to beg the question about the polling Bolling was bragging about in his statements last week claiming he was encouraged about. Bolling’s problem appears to be that even after seven years of being a Lt. Governor, nobody even knows who he is. In this poll, 72% of REPUBLICANS haven;t heard enough about him to have an opinion. Pretty pathetic if you ask me.

A little too early to come to that conclusion but the trend doesn’t look good.

it’s pretty simple. if Bolling jumps in, it’s a D gain. if not, it’s a tossup

Agreed, #2. It was Bolling’s time and he allowed Cuccinelli to take it from him..pathetic all the way around!

This polling clearly shows that Bolling can only be a spoiler, and nothing else. If he has polling that shows something different, he should produce it. Otherwise, he should stand down.

Cutting is a dark trend that’s suddenly making its way into the limelight. Indeed, the #CutForBieberand #Cut4Bieber hashtags have been trending on Twitter, a social media platform of choice for teens.

After rumors surfaced that pop star Justin Bieberwas smoking weed, members of a message board known as 4chan decided to launch the #Cu
photos of cutters and the #CutForBieber hashtag.
“Lets start a cut yourself for bieber campaign,” an anonymous user wrote on the message board. “Tweet a bunch of pics of people cutting themselves and claim we did it because bieber was smoking weed. See if we can get some little girls to cut themselves.”
The campaign went viral and is now making headlines.

  9. AuH2ORepublican says:

I agree that Bolling can only be a spiler and cannot win, but I base that on the history of the VA electorate (if Coleman couldn’t peel off enough Republicans to come close to winning the 1994 Senate race despite a far more polarizing GOP nominee (Ollie North), Bolling doesn’t stand a chance), not on polls from 10 months prior to the election. But these early polls might be useful in convincing potential Bolling supporters who were fantasizing about a 35% Bolling victory in a three-way race that Bolling can’t win, and the lack of support that will follow might discourage Bolling from running.

  10. EML says:

Today, I am, along with a vast majority of my fellow citizens, being made the scapegoat for the failed policies of the so-called progressives — whether it is the inability of society to deal with extreme psychopaths or the mentally deranged, because the left insists they are entitled to the same rights as other citizens, or the never-ending attempt to rehabilitate criminals incapable of rehabilitation. Consistent with their inability to ever admit a mistake, the left and much of the Democratic Party instead focuses on symbolism over substance and the path of least resistance — going after the law-abiding hard working people who are the backbone of America.

But the motivation is more insidious than that. Those that self-identify as progressives, leftists, socialists or Marxists, have one overwhelming trait in common: they are narcissists who believe they are pre-ordained to rule the masses too ignorant to govern themselves. Over the past thirty years as these extremists fully infiltrated academia, the mainstream media, the entertainment industry and taken over the Democratic Party, the American people have lost many of their individual rights. They are now being told what they can eat, where they can live, who they must associate with, where and how their children must be educated, and soon what medical care they are allowed to access, as well as the type of car they can drive and the amount of energy they are permitted to use.

The last bastion of freedom is unfettered gun ownership, so that too must go. That the left is willfully and egregiously exploiting the actions of a deranged psychopath in the tragic death of 26 people (20 children) in Newtown, Connecticut to achieve this end exposes their true motivation.

Other than Jul fighting off some drunken college girls, has anybody here actually used a gun to defend themselves or others?

  12. EML says:

Not personally, although I know a female gun owner who fought off an attempted carjacking (and who knows what else would’ve happened – rape, murder) with a gun.

Judicial Watch releases its list of Washington’s ‘most corrupt’ politicians
    *****************************
Tough job, but somebody’s got to do it. Judicial Watch has released its annual list of politicians they deem unsavory — the top 11, plus a list of six runners-up for the dubious designation.

“The purpose of the list is to put the spotlight on some of D.C.’s most unethical politicians who have undermined the rule of law and abused the public trust,” says Tom Fitton, president of the watchdog group. He calls it a “bipartisan problem.”

Here are the “most corrupt” politicians, Mr. Fitton says, in alphabetical order:

    Rep. Vern Buchanan, Florida Republican
    Secretary of Energy Steven Chu
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and UN Ambassador Susan Rice
    Attorney General Eric Holder
Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., Illinois Democrat
Sen. Robert Menendez, New Jersey Democrat
    President Barack Obama
    Sen. Harry Reid, Nevada Democrat
    Rep. David Rivera, Florida Republican
Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius

And the “dishonorable mentions” for 2012:

Former Sen. John Edwards, North Carolina Democrat
Rep. Michael Grimm, New York Republican
Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano
    Former CIA director David Petraeus
    Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Massachusetts Democrat
    Rep. Maxine Waters, California Democrat

See the group’s extensive justification for their choices here.

12- Good example- we all know Detroit is a public policy disaster and a slaughterhouse in places. People there often HAVE to defend themselves. There were 25 justifiable homicides in Detroit last year, only three of those were by police officers. The rest, presumably, by citizens. It’s actually more frequent than you’d think- particularly as often times no one is hurt and the criminal flees.

Also- just last night this story- which you won’t hear on national news.

-How many of us have had to rely on a “peace officer” showing up in time to defend them against people who would do bodily harm?

I have heard no person, conservative, Republican, wacko, NRA memeber, etc call for MANDATING OWNERSHIP OF A GUN. What I have heard are calls for citizens, who are willing to take on the responsibility of carrying a concealed weapon to help defend innocent people, be allowed to go through the intense training and background checks to get that Concealed Carry permit.

Was it Shakespeare who said to start with the lawyers?

  23. W. PA Observer says:

21- Part of it is the registered voters poll- 65% turnout or so for the Presidency , they’ll be lucky to hit 50% for the governorship election. A fair number of the “no opinion” voters in that poll won’t show up and don’t intend on doing so.

  24. AuH2ORepublican says:

#20, Mike, that line from Shakespeare’s Henry VI, Part II (spoken by a villain) was the Bard’s way of noting the importance of lawyers in protecting the rights of the People and of staving off tyranny. The fact that it is usually quoted by those who disparage the legal profession, and accepted without comment by listeners, shows how much our popular culture has decayed.

Here’s an homage to Shakespeare’s line:

” I don’t own a gun and I don’t plan to ever own one. Good luck to those who do own them.”

You have said this a thousand times.

But nobody is giving out medals for not owning guns.

And not owning guns didn’t get you elected.

And I think you should go out a buy a gun, just to piss the Democrats off.

  28. Bitterlaw says:

Au- I gave up trying to explain the real meaning of that quote years ago. Everybody hates lawyers until they need one to help them out.

  29. jason says:

Those that like Bolling are missing the point. I liked him too. I might even have agreed that if he ran as an R he might do better than Cuccinelli in the GE.

However he is not the nominee, so why throw away the election by supporting him?

  30. jason says:

” I come from a family with a long history of being angry, moody, and loving alcohol too much.”

All the more reason to own a gun.

When you are angry and call the redneck in a pickup truck with a bumper sticker that says register commies not guns a a-hole and c–ksucka you will need the gun to avoid getting killed.

  31. Bitterlaw says:

Jason – The HHR gun club repeats that they own guns and identify them. I don’t want a medal. Now, GFY.*

    *or not. It doesn’t matter.

  32. Waingro says:

    #6, Christie for Senate 2018 instead! :)

  33. jason says:

Actually that happened to me in Texas about 15 years ago.

I flipped off some dude and I noticed he followed me all the way home. I pulled into the parking lot and took my gun out the glove compartment and put it in my jacket pocket.

He pulled in next to me and it turned out he just wanted to argue about me flipping him off but he didn’t get physical. I ended up apologizing and we shook hands.

However, I would have been scared sh-tless if I didn’t have the gun.

  34. Walt, HHR Senator, formerly known as Delegate says:

    Lawyer Bitter,

Do mass shooters (live or dead) automatically go through blood tests to determine if there is presence of various drugs in their system at the time of their crime?

Same question for bank robbers, rapists, and other levels of felonies.

  35. jason says:

Today I would have handled it differently. I would have dialed 911 and said someone was following me and I would not have parked. But in those days I didn’t have a cell phone.

  36. NYCmike (Bronxie) says:

NYC – I don’t own a gun and I don’t plan to ever own one. Good luck to those who do own them.

Everybody hates lawyers until they need one to help them out.

    -Bitterlaw,
I added that remark because it has been explained here many times, that Shakespeare actually looked at lawyers as necessary to protect people from tyranny. Which is the same reason why I would think that you would fight for citizens who WANTED to own guns, even though you yourself don’t want to (note: The only gun I have ever shot was an airgun. I once held a cop friend’s 9mm, but it had no ammo in it). You seem to have no problem dismissing those who LIKE the 2nd Amendment as not worthy of protection from zealots like Feinstein, Obama, Cuomo, etc (most of whom have either armed guards defending them, or have permits to carry a weapon).

  37. jason says:

” The HHR gun club repeats that they own guns and identify them. I don’t want a medal. Now, GFY.*”

If you find one post where I say what types of guns I have I will indeed GFM.

  38. jason says:

    38. I agree with Bronxie. I support many causes where I don’t have a direct interest in, such as opposing higher taxes for millionaires.

I don’t own “assault weapons” (media invented term) but I will fight and contribute money to preserve the 2nd amendment rights of those who do.

  39. jason says:

Oh sh-t, I just said what type of weapons I DON’T HAVE.

I hope that doesn’t constitute ‘the HHR gun club repeats that they own guns and identify them” or I will have to get a room with myself.

  40. NYCmike (Bronxie) says:

Andrew Cuomo, after noting that NY has some of the tightest gun control laws in the nation, says there are still loopholes, so NY needs….MORE LAWS.
Andrew Cuomo, after noting that NY has some of the highest spending year after year in the nation, says that the state must spend…..MORE.

MORE, MORE, MORE, MORE. less is not a word that Dems use, unless a person who works is speaking about take-home pay.

  43. Waingro says:

#42, the bloom is off Governor “Moderate”. Although I’d still take him over Hillary in a heart beat.

  44. jason says:

Cuomo just outed himself as just another big government liberal.

Not that this is a surprise but he was trying to pretend otherwise.

He has locked down the 2nd amendment haters that would have voted for him anyway.

    Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…..

  45. jason says:

“I have repeatedly said people have the right to own guns. Personally, I can’t relate to it but I’m not saying the right should be taken away.”

I think Bitter has higher office aspirations after HHR.

That statement would make any politician proud.

  46. Michael (Christie for Governor) says:

I have decided that there is no point to supporting Bolling. I will donate to Cucinelli when i the chance, maybe unexpected amount of money.

  47. Waingro says:

#46, the spending proposals are what outs him more. He tried to play himself off as a “fiscal conservative” in the early going of his tenure.

  48. Bitterlaw says:

However, I will admit that the fact that Jul qualified for a concealed carry permit raises questions about the process.

  49. jason says:

    48. Good thinking. I would have voted for Bolling in a primary but it’s too late now. McCauliflower is the target.

Since i’ve seen them take shots at Paladin, i’m guessing they are Paladin’s new competition.

The source said that, during the meeting, Paul expanded the discussion on the US fiscal cliff, and reminded Netanyahu of his speech to Congress in 1996, when he said that Israel would gradually end US economic aid. He proposed to Netanyahu to do the same for US military aid, and promised that such a declaration would be welcomed enthusiastically in the US and that it would strengthen the bonds of friendship between the two countries.
Netanyahu made no binding response to Paul, but people familiar with Netanyahu’s opinion said that he was aware of the problems in continuing US aid when the US budget deficit is ballooning.

    Not a thing.

Embrace the horror. It’s coming. Not a thing any of us can do about it. Nada.

Enjoy. There is no god but Obama.

  88. DW says:

87…well, I would want to wait until he actually tries that to start making such extreme comparisons. I mean I hate Obama with all my being, but people here on HHR a few years ago comparing Obama to Hitler were shouted down as extreme, insensitive zealots.

Its just not the same as a president announcing that he is declaring void one of the ten bill of rights amendments to the constitution.

Cutting military aid to Israel is a non-starter.

Even Obama, who is no friend of Israel, knows that.

-This seems just as short-sighted as it did last week. Rand Paul stated some good reasons to try to lessen Israel’s dependence on the US, and considering Bibi’s statements alluded to, why is foreign aid reductions NOT worthy of discussion? As Rand stated, why should Israel have to ask permission to do certain things in defense of its borders?

  118. jason says:

Because we have a commitment to Israel’s defense.

Arming Israel so they can defend themselves is cheaper than intervening ourselves.

Israel is an island in a sea of hostile countries.

Rand Paul is not interested in the security of Israel, he is an isolationist who doesn’t understand we have strategic interests around the world, such as protecting oil supplies, etc.

Drudge headlining the swelling ranks of NRA members. These same NRA fools endorsed many of the Dems that will facilitate the confiscation of guns!

    NRA
    Chris Christie
    John Roberts

All three are dead to me.

  235. The Hand says:

    NRA?
    They can talk to me.

  236. Special Kind of Stupid says:

Is there something wrong about the NRA supporting democrats who favor gun control?

  237. DW says:

Never forget that the NRA was all prepared to endorse HARRY STINKING REID until they were pressured out of it.

  238. Little Red Riding Hood says:

I am endorsing the Big Bad Wolf, and am hiring him to be my personal body guard.

  239. GF says:

232- Well, if the ballots break 2:1 Dem, we’ll still win by four votes, so they can suck it!
    Good morning, HHR.

  240. Supposed competitor to Piss Poor Polling, Harper Polling uses ONE-DAY POLLING.

Jesus Christ. Another sham polling organization.

  241. Phil says:

Looks like Al Franken will be unopposed for reelection – and this is during an off year election when Republicans have a better shot.

Welcome to the new America folks.

    LOL

  242. GF says:

249- Last I saw, Paulsen left the door open (his earlier remarks were misreported in the media). I still don’t think he runs, but if the environment becomes favorable, he may go for it. More interesting, Coleman hinted he may opt for another office (likely governor as he wanted to run for that before the race swap with Pawlenty in ’02). Dayton needs to go, and Coleman might be able to dispatch him in a non-Federal race.

  243. GF says:

OK, off to PT and find out just how crippled I am. Cheers.

  244. BayernFan says:

Les Miserables wasnt a tear jerker, it was a high efficiency mechanized tear extraction device.

    Brutal.

I also dont understand why a few here have panned Jackman’s performance. I dont see his performance being any worse or better than anyone else’s.

  245. Bitterlaw says:

BF – I think Jul was the main critic of Jackman. I thought he was good. I thought that the movie mainly looked to find actors who could sing. Stage versions emphasize singers who can act.

  246. MD says:

Franken might run unopposed. Awesome work GOP.

  247. Bitterlaw says:

At least Franken running unopposed SENDS A MESSAGE!

  248. Bitterlaw says:

On second thought, maybe not thaving a nominee is better in the grand scheme than having a COD or Akin.

  249. Michael (Christie for Governor) says:

    @254 that’s terrible

  250. Michael (Christie for Governor) says:

    @256 true

  251. Jool says:

    Winning elections is for RINOs.

  252. Michael (Christie for Governor) says:

Winning elections for the sake of the country are for republicans. All republicans, except paulbots

  253. Jool says:

Paulbots are the only true Republicans left.

  254. Phil says:

The GOP is brilliant. Ask Todd Akin. He’s still combing through the Missouri election returns to try and figure out what happened. It’s still a big mystery to him.

No opponent for the very mainstream Al Franken? The GOP is careening toward extinction even faster than I thought.

    Good riiddence.

Obama and his Democratic successors (assuming he doesn’t get a third and fourth term) should have the guns within the decade. How? Well, throwing in the towell with an ultra leftist like Al Franken is a good start.

The soon to be extinct Republican Party. The party of stupid. Democrats are laughing their asses off.

  255. Tim says:

    New thread.
