Quinn/Lhota Leads NYC Primaries

One local angle to this whole Lance Armstrong debacle. This past year, the Columbia Triathlon that is held in my hometown was willing to have their race unsanctioned in order to let Lance Armstrong join the event as a competitor. Granted it probably helped bring people in to raise money, but if you read this article, some serious triathlon competitors who competed in this event in the past were pretty upset by this. Knowing what we know now, I wonder if the Columbia Triathlon is regretting their willingness to bend the rules for someone who has turned out the be a pretty despicable individual. On an interesting political note, although it really doesn’t matter, the organization that runs this triathlon was started by, and is named for, the brother of our current County Executive and Maryland gubernatorial candidate on the Democratic side, Ken Ulman.

Quinnipiac University has a new poll out for the mayoral race in New York City and it shows Jospeh Lhota and Christine Quinn leading their respective party primaries.

MAYOR – NEW YORK CITY – GOP PRIMARY (Quinnipiac)
Joseph Lhota 23%
John Catsimatidis 9%
Tom Allon 5%
Adolfo Carrion 3%
George McDonald 2%

MAYOR – NEW YORK CITY – DEM PRIMARY (Quinnipiac)
Christine Quinn 35%
Bill de Blasio 11%
William Thompson 10%
John Liu 9%

If you were to show me a picture of one of the Republican’s names above without telling me who they were, I basically would have a 20% chance of getting it right. Regardless, even if the current GOP frontrunner comes out with the nomination, he basically starts in a huge hole.

MAYOR – NEW YORK CITY (Quinnipiac)
Christine Quinn (D) 62%
Joseph Lhota (R) 17%

William Thompson (D) 55%
Joseph Lhota (R) 19%

Bill de Blasio (D) 57%
Joseph Lhota (R) 17%

This poll was done January 8-14 among 1332 registered voters.

    For Bitter:

Bitter, I have been having issues w/ Ants in my Bathroom the last week. My gf is telling me its a sign of Diabetes. While I do have too much Soda and Coffee I don’t have the other signs so I doubt I have it. That said i’ll probably get a blood glucose meter. Any thoughts/advice?

  6. W. PA Observer says:

Heh, the business community in New York City must be terrified of whoever comes after Bloomberg. There hasn’t been a Democratic mayor elected since 1989 or so. I think the transformation of the city from a cesspool to non-cesspool has something to do with that.

  7. Bitterlaw says:

Author – Are the ants actually walking around the toilet? A diabetic can have sugar in urine but I never had ants go looking for it. Instead of a meter, I think you can buy test strips that detect sugar in urine. Sugar = bad news.

If you want a meter, there are many. I always use Accucheck. The meters are cheap. the test strips are not.

  8. EML says:

I’m ready for upstate to break away from NYC. Tired of the state being run by corrupt NYC politicians and having that crime ridden hellhole bringing down the rest of the state.

  9. EML says:

Don’t waste money on a test. Just taste your urine and if its sweet, there’s sugar in it.

  10. Bitterlaw says:

EML – There is also that method. Another sign is whether your breath smells fruity.

  11. Phil says:

Another great day in the life of the Obama regime. Let’s see. What rights is Dear Leader going to chip away at today? Oh yeah – today it’s guns and the 2nd Amendment.

    Enjoy.

  12. HHR Senator AuthorLMendez, El Patron says:

Bitter the ants have been found around the sink area, nowhere else.

Thanks for the advice on what to get though. I should probably check my blood pressure too, though last time I did it was normal.

  13. HHR Senator AuthorLMendez, El Patron says:

btw i’d like to get add or Corey’s take on the Bears hiring a CFL coach

  14. Bitterlaw says:

Author – unless you piss in the sink, I think you are ok.

  15. Bitterlaw says:

The Bears don’t need a coach. They have Cutler!

  16. jason says:

Author, you know what happened to the ant on the toilet seat?

    He got pissed off.

  17. Bitterlaw says:

    Zing!

  18. Author's GF says:

I will send Author to the store to buy some stuff for him to scrub the bathrooms everyday, that will solve the ant problem. He will need to go over all the cracks with a toothbrush though.

Once he does that he will be through with the B items on the list of chores and can move on to C.

Look what this girl said to me after I told her Rand Paul will not be president.

@sippigrrrl: @P_state I feel I can start my day now after your rapier-like wit. What the hell is wrong with him?

-Can we ALL take the next 4 years to set our agendas against the Democratic candidates to come after King Obama, instead of ripping apart some of the people who we agree with at least 75% of the time?

  21. Bitterlaw says:

NYC – Bunu already converted Jul. If he senses respect for Rand Paul from you, he will haunt you day and night.

  22. NYCmike (Bronxie) says:

NYC is just about ready to throw aside 20 years of Republican/quasi-Republican leadership in the Mayor’s office. Christine Quinn will push her ethnicity (is she Irish, I am assuming she is?), her lady parts, and her sexual orientation. And she will get help from Bloomberg. It will be interesting to see what happens. I hold out hope that she will surprise me and be fiscally responsible, and tough towards the municipal unions.

  23. jason says:

“Some of the people who we agree with at least 75% of the time?”

When the 25% has to do with our global interests, the military, Israel, and the war on terror then we might as well deal with Rand Paul now.

Not that I agree on many of Rand Paul’s domestic agenda either, I am not in favor of legalizing drugs or doing away with Fed.

In addition, anyone Bunu supports should automatically be disqualified from a GOP ticket.

  24. jason says:

“I hold out hope that she will surprise me and be fiscally responsible, and tough towards the municipal unions.”

    You ARE an optimist!!

  25. HHR Senator AuthorLMendez, El Patron says:

“Author, you know what happened to the ant on the toilet seat?

    He got pissed off.”

    heh

  26. NYCmike (Bronxie) says:

    jason,
What choice do I have when it comes to Quinn? I won’t be voting for her, I’ll probably be going door to door for Llota, but he is a longshot. If I remember correctly, it took Rudy 2 attempts to get in as Mayor.

  27. NYCmike (Bronxie) says:

“When the 25% has to do with our global interests, the military, Israel, and the war on terror then we might as well deal with Rand Paul now.”

-All he has said is that a different approach is needed. He ASKED Netanyahu to do away with American aid, something that Bibi said he would do back in the ’90′s. Why is that so radical for you?

  28. NYCmike (Bronxie) says:

Our approach right now is not perfect, and is not supported by the nation as a whole. That is one of the reasons why there is such division.

  29. W. PA Observer says:

26- It took two attempts- Dinkin’s being an utter failure, and a feeling that Billy Joel’s “Miami 2017- Seen the Lights Go Out on Broadway” was going to be proved accurate.

  30. Walt, HHR Senator, formerly known as Delegate says:

If the ants are in the bathroom, maybe they are piss ants?

  31. Walt, HHR Senator, formerly known as Delegate says:

    Bitter,

Told wife about the email warning me of being kidnapped etc. They said they had already been paid $150K to do the job.

She ants me to turn the email over to law enforcement.

Are you waiting for money before you proffer your advice on this matter?

  32. Rockefeller Republican says:

NYC needs the smack of firm, moderate conservative governance…not more of Bloomberg’s nanny state nonsense! Law and order – above all else – a la Guiliani… Are there no big name GOP/right of center self-funders this cycle in the Big Apple???

    Christie/Martinez ’16!

  33. Bitterlaw says:

Walt – You are not important enough to be kidnapped. If you were still in office, you would be 8,347th on the list. Relax.

  34. HHR Senator AuthorLMendez, El Patron says:

    Rocky troll STFU

  35. HHR Senator AuthorLMendez, El Patron says:

I dont think he’d even be that high

  36. NYCmike (Bronxie) says:

    Rocky,

NYC is TOO damn safe now! Giuliani wouldn’t get 45%! He would be too divisive. As much as I want Bloomberg out, his successor will be a step down.

  37. Tim says:

    Walt:
In the days before Caller I.D., I had my life threatened, by an “anonymous” caller. I hung up the phone, and never heard anything else.
I was also written to a a fellow I didn’t know who was in prison, and saw my pic in a newspaper sent to him. (That one worried me a bit more)

If you are concerned, perhaps you should talk to the authorities, anyway.

  38. jason says:

” Why is that so radical for you?”

Throwing Israel under the bus is radical for me. But of course that is the tip of the iceberg, Rand Paul is already on record as saying “a nuclear armed Iran is not a threat to the U.S.”, the same Iran that has vowed to “wipe Israel off the map” and denies the Holocaust.

    Let me be clear.

I would vote for Hillary before I voted for Rand Paul.*

Hillary might be a flaming liberal but at least she (or at least Bill did) understands that we need a strong military and we need to support our allies and we need to protect interests that lie beyond our borders.

    * not that I would vote for Hillary either.

  39. jason says:

Walt did you google the address of the email sender to see if other people are getting it too?

It could be one of those scams like the Nigerian “we want to deposit 25 million in your account kind of thing”.

  40. jason says:

    Hey Rockefeller Troll, f-ck off!

I know you are upset your hero Jay Rockefeller is retiring, but go cry about it over at DKos.

  41. NYCmike (Bronxie) says:

    jason,

I’ll keep trying to learn about Rand Paul. You seem to be projecting a lot of things about what would happen if he became President. And to want Hillary over him, that’s crazy talk. You seem to think there are no problems with the approach we have taken over the last 20 years, yet the world is more dangerous now than it was before, in many ways. And in no way is that Rand Paul’s fault!

  42. NYCmike (Bronxie) says:

Rand Paul: “Israel should NOT have to get permission to defend its borders when missiles terrorize their cities!”

jason: “There goes Rand Paul calling for the destruction of Israel!”

  43. Walt, HHR Senator, formerly known as Delegate says:

    Jason,

email came from a gmail account. Based on wording and details in the email, it appears it came from outside the U.S.

I do not consider it a real threat. Nobody would pay this guy’s ‘gang’ $150K to kidnap me and then off me after getting some huge ransom paid.

Nobody I know would be willing to pay any ransom over $100.

Perhaps I should reply to the eamil and suggest they must be looking for another person with the same first and last name. :)

  44. jason says:

You need to educate yourself on this guy….

“Washington – On Saturday (Sept. 22) the U.S. Senate voted 90 to 1 to pass a non-binding resolution that would prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. The lone senator voting against the resolution was Rand Paul, son of Ron Paul the well-known libertarian.
Rand Paul argued that the resolution was de-facto a declaration that the U.S. would wage a pre-emptive war. The resolution was introduced months ago by three senators: Lindsey Graham, Bob Casey and Joe Lieberman.”

    Declaration of pre-emptive war?

    Now THAT is crazy talk.

  45. jason says:

Walt, report it as spam and forget it.

Do not respond unless you can give them Bunu’s email.

  47. jason says:

I saw Harry Reid’s comments on TV.

“The senate is not voting for stuff just to say we voted.”

Translation: “We don’t have the votes”

  48. Liberal “thinking”.

California DMV finds that unlicensed drivers, most of whom are illegals, cause fatalities at 3x the rate of licensed drivers.

Solution? Oh you know where this is going. Give killer drivers a license. Because you see, if they’re licensed, they’d stop killing.

    http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-unlicensed-20130116,0,4129847.story?track=rss

  49. NYCmike (Bronxie) says:

The resolution was introduced months ago by three senators: Lindsey Graham, Bob Casey and Joe Lieberman.”

-Those 3 names should get him a pass for voting against it.

  50. jason says:

    42. You are smarter than that.

When you have a quote from him that he will honor our longstanding commitment to DEFEND Israel post it.

If Hillary can say it, so can Rand Paul:

” The American commitment to Israel’s security is rock solid and unwavering,” Mrs Clinton said at a brief press appearance with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu before the two entered closed-door talks”

Question to Obama in debate: Would either of you be willing to declare that an attack on Israel is an attack on the United States, which of course is the same promise that we give to our close allies like Japan?

PRESIDENT OBAMA: I will stand with Israel if they are attacked.

;;;;And this is the reason why, working with Israel, we have created the strongest military and intelligence cooperation between our two countries in history. In fact, this week we’ll be carrying out the largest military exercise with Israel in history, this very week.”

So if Obama, hardly that pro-Israel, can make that commitment, let’s hear it from Rand Paul.

  51. jason says:

“Those 3 names should get him a pass for voting against it.”

    It passed 90-1.

  52. NYCmike (Bronxie) says:

    jason,

And, you don’t see how a President could use a resolution like that to attack Iran, without garnering public support for that effort? What is the use of a non-binding resolution anyway, all it does is give Senators like Casey some protection.

  53. NYCmike (Bronxie) says:

    It passed 90-1.

-The authorization to use force in Iraq and Afghanistan passed, if memory serves correctly, 97-3, it all depends on which way the winds are blowing for these Senators, I am sure you know that.
And all of the STATEMENTS made by Hillary, Obama, McCain, etc, are just that, STATEMENTS. Then, when the missiles are raining down, Israel has to check in with its “partners” before it can respond. That is your idea of cooperation??

  54. jason says:

You are mixing apples and oranges.

The authorization to use force was very different from the non-binding resolution on Iran getting nuclear weapons.

But I guess you are saying that the 90 senators from the most conservative to most liberal that voted for it were wrong, and Rand Paul who voted against it was right.

This is the kind of thinking that would get Rand Paul about 10 states if he were to be nominated.

  55. jason says:

” And all of the STATEMENTS made by Hillary, Obama, McCain, etc, are just that, STATEMENTS”

Ok, let’s have a statement by Rand Paul, that would be a good start.

Here is a list of “statements” on Israel.

  56. jason says:

” Heineman proposes an end to all corporate and income taxes in Nebraska”

Is there an Amish community there where I can continue barn building?

  57. NYCmike (Bronxie) says:

    jason,

It seems you like words better than actions. Rand Paul explained his reasons about foreign aid, spoke with Netanyahu about those ideas, mentioned that 15 or so years ago that Bibi had the same ideas about aid from America. None of that is good for you. I am not here to pump up Rand Paul, he will be one voice among many on the Republican side who would be better for this country, domestically & internationally, imho. If you are already saying he will not get your vote, so be it. I have not said that about any of the people who may run in the Republican primaries. You can vote for Hillary or tough-guy Cuomo, if Rand is the nominee. Cheers to you!

  58. Michael (Christie for Governor) says:

    On two hour delay schedule

  59. jason says:

    57. It seems to me your view is to give Rand Paul a pass on his nutty and dangerous foreign policy views until later in the Presidential race. You can keep you head in the sand and pretend the outside world does not exist, but it does.

And you can stop lying about what I said. I said I would vote for Hillary BEFORE I voted for Rand Paul, although I would never vote for either one.

An understanding of our global commitments and interests is key for a Presidential candidate.

It might be popular to demagogue the issue and say let’s end foreign aid without paying attention to the consequences. But its irresponsible.

  60. Michael (Christie for Governor) says:

Bitter is is nycmike being converted to paulbots by Bunu

  61. HHR Senator AuthorLMendez, El Patron says:

  62. Michael (Christie for Governor) says:

Obama proposal would never pass congress. The people should decide on these proposals and the house best represents the people

  63. Emerica says:

I love stopping by and seeing and entire thread
about Rand Paul despite no posts from me.

  64. NYCmike (Bronxie) says:

Give him a pass? Are you for real? The status quo is in shambles, and someone comes in with different ideas, and he is labeled nutty and dangerous! Even though some of his ideas were shared by the Prime Minister, of the country you are so worried about, not too long ago! Even though that same country has to get permission to defend itself, because of the existing policies!!

  65. Michael (Christie for Governor) says:

Author i have a 98 in this class and its lab. I don’t care anymore

  66. GF says:

    Good morning, HHR.

Not much to report out West. I nearly changed my voter registration to Libertarian out of frustration with the useless GOP, but I could not bring myself to do it. Better to try to fix a broken party than join a purity group.

  67. NYCmike (Bronxie) says:

An understanding of our global commitments and interests is key for a Presidential candidate.

-We wish it would be, but the last 2 elections have proven otherwise.

  68. GF says:

65- Mikey, did you pay for that class yourself, or are you a beneficiary of public aid? If the latter, I demand as a taxpayer that you return to your studies and boost that grade up to a 99 at least! I want a return on my investment in your future! ;-)

  69. HHR Senator AuthorLMendez, El Patron says:

Im sure you do Mikey, sure you do

  70. Michael (Christie for Governor) says:

Author, senioritis is having its full effects

  71. NYCmike (Bronxie) says:

GFY, Bunu/Emerica, whatever your name is. You do more to engender dislike for Ron & Rand Paul than the media itself. The Paulites not voting for Romney, because they say he was the same as Obama, is a big reason why we once again have Obama.

  72. Michael (Christie for Governor) says:

Gf, do you live in State College? If no, I don’t care about your investment in your district

  73. Bitterlaw says:

The fact that Bunu supports Rand Paul completely discredits him. If Bunu starts hating Rand Paul, I might reconsider.

  74. Michael (Christie for Governor) says:

    @ 71 stupid protest voters

  75. NYCmike (Bronxie) says:

It might be popular to demagogue the issue and say let’s end foreign aid without paying attention to the consequences. But its irresponsible.

-I am pretty sure Rand Paul is not holding these views because of current popular opinion. In fact, how many people actually care about foreign aid, at this point in time? All the people that voted for Obama, or that stayed home and did not vote, definitely were not worried about it.

  76. Michael (Christie for Governor) says:

Bitter what is the history of Bunu?

  77. NYCmike (Bronxie) says:

“And you can stop lying about what I said. I said I would vote for Hillary BEFORE I voted for Rand Paul, although I would never vote for either one.’

-I know you had the * below your statement, but I needed some shock value, to get more responses. Forgive me.

  78. Bitterlaw says:

  80. NYCmike (Bronxie) says:

  81. GF says:

72- Mikey, I’ve never given you any grief (for any reason) and was just teasing you. Grow a f*cking sense of humour, you stupid punk; you’ll find that it is an asset in life once you become an adult (and by that, I don’t mean reaching the age of 18, I mean actually being grown-up and useful to society).

  83. GF says:

Bitter, I saw that there was a Philly GOP Congressman some years back who shares your last name and was wondering if there was any relation. I also note that you would have made a fine boss had your delicate condition not hindered entering the JAG.

  84. Phil says:

After listening to our president moments ago, I have now changed my views on assault weapons. They must be banned to save the children. Our president is only looking out for our best interests and we must defer to his sound judgement. Let’s not fight this. The American people voted overwhelmingly for President Obama TWICE. The wouldn’t have done so if they didn’t trust him to do the right thing for us all.

It would be great day for this nation if we could repeal the 22nd Amendment as well, and allow this great man to have the necessary time to make the changes essential to creating social justice in the United States of America. You may disagree, but trust me. The changes will be good for you whether you realize it now or not. Just let it happen and stop resisting.

Thing is, I don’t need a rocket launcher to do the job; I am quite happy with a stock .303 and a drop sight to give the guys in black helicopters a good scare at 1000 yards. It’s not about defeating the government for me; it is about making sure they know in the backs of their heads that forcing their will upon me could conceivably come at a heavy price.

Not bad for 5 years of work.

By 2016 he might have 3.

Wylie Coyote became a Paulbot, but I think he wsa self made.

    GF i’m under 25 too :/

I would just say my guns were lost or stolen.

Let them dig up thousands of acres of Amish farmland to find them.

-If that includes me, the gov’t won’t have to worry about taking my gun from me, because it will be stickin’ out of your arse/mouth.*

*if it does not include me, strike the last statement from the record.

WEC – Ron Paul is a genius.

Bunu – No. Ron Paul is a Super Genius.

WEC – I love Ron Paul.

Bunu – I love Ron Paul more than you love Ron Paul.

WEC – I love Ron Paul even more than that…….

Nobody has a lower opinion of Obama than me, and I think his foreign policy sucks, but I would take his foreign policy over Rand Paul’s any day of the week.

Obama’s foreign policy is misguided. Rand Paul’s is suicidal.

#91 clearly showed bunu with more than 3 friends. Why don’t you bring them here with you, Bunu?

  117. DW says:

Big Government is a (false) religion.

Its location of worship is the unholy trinitarian temple compound of the White House, the US Congress, and the SCOTUS building. Its High Priest, Prophet, and Pontiff is Barack Obama.

Assisting Obama are a wide assortment of bishops, prophets and prophetesses, along with priests, interns, mistresses, thugs, and assorted villians who carry out the duties of the religion.

Adherents to this religion believe their is no god, and no constitution by which the country should be governed. They believe that all decisions that affect their lives should be made by the leader of their religion. Big Government must decide who is worthy of life, death, wealth, happiness and healthcare. They believe that as long as their worship is worthy, as defined by their donations to the DNC and consistently voting for their religion, that they will in turn be provided for, and guaranteed happiness, and reward for their laziness.

Unbelievers, the wicked heathen who dare question the authority of their religious leader, are usually greedy rich people who must be brought to social justice.

Pertaining to temple worship, daily sacrifices of your liberties are made on the altar growing government power. Weekly sacrifices of your resources are conducted almost year round in the US Congress. Monthly sacrifices of constitutional protections are performed in the SCOTUS temple building. The holy scripture of this religion is the temple teleprompter from which the religion’s pontiff graciously reads his executive orders.

This religion is entirely exclusive and intolerant. There is NO OTHER WAY of salvation than through the religion of Big Government. So the pontiff-prophet-high priest will simply persecute unbelievers and imprison them if necessary, until all citizens are re-educated, and join together at the altars of worship in the utopian holy place of Washington DC.

  118. Bitterlaw says:

DW – Can you put your name at the top of the post. I skipped it because I thought it was from SusyQue. I went back to read it when I realized it was yours.

  119. NYCmike (Bronxie) says:

    “Rand Paul’s is suicidal.”

Unproven. If it is similiar to policies we have had in the past, we are still here, which would take care of the “suicidal” argument. Of course, if the US economy crashes, Israel would go to whom for help?

  120. jason says:

    113. It included you. Your defense of Rand Paul’s foreign policy ideas qualifies you as a Paulbot. At least Jul understands we need to defend Israel and that Iran and Islamic terrorism do in fact pose a grave threat.

That’s true, but I volunteer for that kind of punishment; the rest of you should not have to live under it. Just my two pence…

  122. jason says:

    “Rand Paul’s is suicidal.”

    Unproven.”

    LOL.

Hopefully we won’t get a chance to find out.

But look at history, appeasement and weakness rarely works.

  123. DW says:

119 – I probably threw you off by mentioning religion in the first line.

I can handle it, GF. I’m Irish. I will be dead in no more than 50 years. I was made to endure.

  126. jason says:

Even if the US economy crashed, we would still have global interests.

    Silly argument.

also Bitter, I wrote 118 in just a matter of minutes, it all just came into my head and flowed. I didn’t google it, and paste it here as though it was original like others have done with long posts like that.

-Here we go, now Rand Paul AND NYCmike have called for Israel’s destruction, isn’t that right? We were using “code words”! The Michael Dyson character that goes on mSNBC all of the time would be very proud of you! Nice projection!

-That is one option. We could consider them more of a childhood friend, who is able to take care of themselves, BUT, when asked, we would offer unconditional support.

  140. Bitterlaw says:

I think Rand Paul would walk by the pool, say “My nephew has the right to not drown,” and keep walking.

  141. GF says:

Bitter, it’s been mostly clear for the last week in LJ. We had some rain, but onyl a little. Our cold spell continues, though it probably seems tropical to you (low 30s at night, stretches to the low 50s during the day).

Michael, look upthread at my original under 30 rule. It was amended via voice vote to accomodate Author.

-Not a Paulbot, thank you for seeing my desire for a fair hearing.
-Giants? NY, no. San Francisco, yes. (Side note: I went 6-2 when i picked Eagles games this year, against the spread, which helped me win 1st place!)

  143. Bitterlaw says:
