Capito Dominates in WV, Franken Leads in MN

Some good polling news for Republicans in the state of West Virginia from Harper Polling, where a new poll has Republican Moore Capito well ahead of three potential Democrats.

US SENATE – WEST VIRGINIA (Harper Polling)
Shelley Moore Capito (R) 50%
Nick Rahall 32%

Shelley Moore Capito (R) 53%
Carte Goodwin (D) 19%

Shelley Moore Capito (R) 51%
Robin Davis (D) 24%

Of course, it won’t be long before self-proclaimed conservative groups start calling Capito a RINO. In fact, Club for Growth already started this drumbeat last year. This poll was done…well I don’t know when it was done since Harper Polling did not include this in their article (come on Harper, these are basic items that any article on a poll should have)….

Meanwhile, Public Policy Polling followed up on their poll of Maine with a new poll for the state of Minnesota showing Al Franken in good shape for re-election.

US SENATE – MINNESOTA (PPP)
Al Franken (D-inc) 54%
Michele Bachmann (R) 40%

Al Franken (D-inc) 50%
Norm Coleman (R) 44%

Al Franken (D-inc) 49%
John Kline (R) 41%

Al Franken (D-inc) 50%
Erik Paulsen (R) 39%

US SENATE – MINNESOTA – GOP PRIMARY (PPP)
Michele Bachmann 45%
John Kline 19%
Chip Cravaack 13%
Erik Paulsen 11%
Laura Brod 4%
Rich Stanek 2%

I am sure Al Franken would be chomping at the bit to take on Bachmann in a General Election. If she were to jump in the US Senate race, the primary poll seems to suggest he would get his wish. This poll was done January 18-20 among 1065 registered voters and 275 Republican primary voters.

  1. Author's B*lls says:

First. We want to be reattached to Author.

  2. HHR Senator AuthorLMendez, El Patron says:

@1 zzzzzz, this material sucks. I expect better insulting from HHR

  3. Author's Car says:

Hola. We need new shock absorbers and a new crown-shaped air freshener. 11 cousins in the back seat on Black Beans and Rice Night at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Community Center is a lot to ask of a 1979 Crown Victoria.*

    *How is that for humor?

  4. HHR Senator AuthorLMendez, El Patron says:

@3 much better. you guys scared me for a second there.

  5. NYCmike (Bronxie) says:

“I am sure Al Franken would be chomping at the bit to take on Bachmann in a General Election.”

-This statement says more about the ignorance of the voters of Minnesota than about Crazy-eyes Bachmann. She is definitely more qualified than that hack, Franken, and she will definitely fight him for every vote. In an off-year election, i would love to see her go after him.

  6. HHR Senator AuthorLMendez, El Patron says:

“In an off-year election, i would love to see her go after him.”

considering the field in MN? why not? we’ll get some entertainment when she explains why she buys the Jenny McCarthy vaccine conspiracy theories.

  7. W. PA Observer says:

Exit polls say Netanyahu and Allies have won- albeit somewhat narrowly (the Israeli equivalent of “No Labels” had a surge into 2nd place). But the Israeli soldier vote is still out (not factoring into exit polls), and considering the size of the IDF relative to the population, and its right-leaning inclinations, implies the right will outperform the polls a bit as well.

  8. HHR Senator AuthorLMendez, El Patron says:

@7 you could have let the troll have just a little more fun

  9. W. PA Observer says:

If we get a good candidate in Minnesota- I think Franken would be vulnerable in a midterm.

  10. Michael (Christie for Governor) says:

Go Captio! I think Captio is an excellent choice, the GOP needs to broaden the women and minority base to challenge the democrats. Captio is the perfect chance.

  11. Michael (Christie for Governor) says:

WPA I agree Kline would look to have the best chance of any of the congressional base.

  12. Michael (Christie for Governor) says:

Harpers numbers when you dig deeper just show that WV is out of the democratic column possibly forever after the last of the state democrats leave office,

  13. Brandon says:

Uh, Manchin and Tomblin were just elected pretty easily recently.

  14. Michael (Christie for Governor) says:

Brandon, the bench isn’t that long is what I guess I am trying to say

  15. Bobby says:

Right, and Capito is part of the Moore Political family. She isn’t a typical Republican in that state. She could break the Dem rule.

  16. Bitterlaw says:

Congratulations to Netanyahu. Suck it, Bunu. Since Netanyahu graduated from Cheltenham High School (Cheltenham is a suburb of Philadelphia) I propose that Bibi be granted Honorary status as a Philly A-hole.

  17. W. PA Observer says:

    16- I second that.

Revised Exit polls have his party and bloc’s lead growing a bit as well.

  18. Bitterlaw says:

I just visited Bunu’s favorite site (Daily Paul’ not Stormfromt). A scumbag Paulbot is trying to probe that the Sandy Hook school killings were faked by the Federal government. I wonder if Bunu will post that filth today. Are you that big of a mf-er, Bunu? Do you buy that theory?

  19. Bitterlaw says:

I know a lot of Paulbots are truthers. I wonder if they think the massacre was fake, too.

  20. Michael (Christie for Governor) says:

@19 probably, vote delaware on PPP site

  21. W. PA Observer says:

20- I actually wonder if Castle ran in Delaware, how he’d poll against what’s-his-name (D)?

  22. Michael (Christie for Governor) says:

    @21 creepy coons

  23. bio mom says:

Guys, No Dem will lose who is already in office in this blue state.

  24. Bitterlaw says:

Michael. – the Deadenders would just throw another sure-loser like COD into a primary to try to stop him. Deadenders love losing if it sends a message.

  25. Michael (Christie for Governor) says:

@24 like Jul? I doubt it, I think people will have a cler mind and vote for Castle if they had the chance, look at the presidential primary DE didn’t split for Gingrich that far and it doesn’t look like Paulbots will get their hands on the state anytime soon.

  26. bio mom says:

But the Dem will win if he is already in office!

  27. GregHouseMD says:

Castle IS a Dem. Not the least bit of difference between him and Coons other than he’d give the Dems “bipartisan” cover if he’d have been elected.

  28. W. PA Observer says:

27- Really, voting for Mitch McConnell for Senate leader would have given bipartisan cover?

  29. Michael (Christie for Governor) says:

    @27 I don’t think so

  30. MD says:

Castle was his own worse enemy. A little tact on cap and trade and he easily wins the primary.

Coons is in until he quits or dies.

  31. MD says:

I was also OK with Lugar being primaried because he sold us out again and again. Too bad Mourdock couldn’t keep his mouth shut. Again, piss off the woman voter and you will lose.

  32. Bitterlaw says:

I know MD doesn’t fight parodies but an MD-GregHouse, MD fight would be unique.

  33. MD says:

He isn’t worthy of my wrath. A retard.

  34. Brandon says:

    I don’t think it’s a parody. I think the MD refers to Maryland…

  35. Bitterlaw says:

Speaking of House (sort of), the actor who plays Winston on that show was in plays with me in high school. I only mention this to point out that I know famous people who have greatly exceeded me in areas other than politics.

  36. Michael (Capito for Senate) says:

Notice, since Christie will most likely win I sport a new handle

  37. Brandon says:

    Ask me if I care.

  38. Bitterlaw says:

    Do you care, Brandon?

  39. Michael (Capito for Senate) says:

    @37 do you care Brandon?

  40. Brandon says:

Michael you could change your handle to a picture of Kate Upton’s rack and I still wouldn’t care what you post.

  41. Bitterlaw says:

I would. If Bunu posted pictures of Kate Upton I might be forced to read his links,

  42. Cory says:

Given the fictional Gregory House’s profession, I figured MD referred to Doctor of Medicine.

    And, It’s Wilson, not Winston.

  43. Stef says:

I’m pretty sure Lizard People would win a 3 way race with Franken and Bachman.

  44. Bitterlaw says:

Cory – I only watched maybe 5 episodes. In case you were wondering, my favorite episode was the one where somebody came in with a mysterious illness and nobody could figure out the cause until Dr. House did something that the hospital administrator told him not to do.

  45. Cory says:

That was a good one. House was cranky the whole time, if I remember, except for a few moments where he experienced dark amusement.

  46. Bitterlaw says:

It was interesting how the illness really turned out to be a symptom of hiding a traumatic secret.

  47. Bitterlaw says:

At least our flasher only flashes adults.

  48. Walt, HHR Senator, formerly known as Delegate says:

It was down to zero last night.

They say tonight it will be twice as cold.

    What is two times Zero?

  49. Brandon says:

    00: Spencer Hawes.

  50. Bitterlaw says:

    It’s really old.

    Here is my weather question:

In the winter, they will tell me the temperature and wind speed and calculate the wind chill. Why don’t they tell me the wind chill in summer? If it’s 95 with a 10 degree breeze does it really feel like it’s 87?

  51. Jim B. says:

Walt, I got a nice card from your neighbor, John Overington. I didnt realize that he was the longest-serving state rep. Or did he mean the longest-serving GOP rep?

  52. Bitterlaw says:

    Jim B.

John Overington has been around a long time and I think was a personal friend of Author Boreman, WV’s 1st governor.

Actually, John O. is the longest serving state rep. in the House (regardless of party).

This place is more empty than YoMama’s promise to balance the budget, cut spending, protect 2nd amendment rights, work with Republicans in the House, uphold the Constitution, have an open and transparent and honest administration, etc., etc., etc.

  58. Bitterlaw says:

My example was better. I stayed with breasts. You all went political.

  59. Walt, HHR Senator, formerly known as Delegate says:

This place is more empty than Bubu’s brain.

  60. Bitterlaw says:

Villanova beats Louisville. Wissing’s week gets better and better.

  61. Michael (Capito for Senate) says:

Yes bitter, watched the game. I was scared Villanova would give up the game

  62. HHR Senator AuthorLMendez, El Patron says:

Dear Jerry Rice and Tim Brown, you lost. get over it.

  63. Tulipomania says:

LOL at the lsat three threads particularly 2 threads ago. I haven’t been here all day, and barely at all yesterday, and I just read an entire thread about Rand Paul.

Obviously I’m not the only one driving that topic at this point.

  64. Tulipomania says:

This is one of Rand’s favorite songs. One that he played at his victory and announcement in Kentucky

    The Trees

There is unrest in the forest
There is trouble with the trees
For the maples want more sunlight
And the oaks ignore their pleas

    The trouble with the maples
(And they’re quite convinced they’re right)
They say the oaks are just too lofty
And they grab up all the light
But the oaks can’t help their feelings
If they like the way they’re made
And they wonder why the maples
Can’t be happy in their shade

There is trouble in the forest
And the creatures all have fled
    As the maples scream ‘Oppression!’
And the oaks just shake their heads

So the maples formed a union
    And demanded equal rights
‘The oaks are just too greedy
We will make them give us light’
Now there’s no more oak oppression
For they passed a noble law
And the trees are all kept equal
    By hatchet, axe and saw

  65. Tulipomania says:

    http://oathkeepers.org/oath/2013/01/22/pentagon-says-protests-are-acts-of-low-level-terrorism/

Pentagon classifies pro-gun protesters as low-level terrorist activity

  66. Tulipomania says:

Rand is destined to be president in 2016.

That’s just the way it is.

  67. Michael (Christie for Governor) says:

    Bunu, impossible

  68. Sir Carmine says:

Iowa is Ron Paul country. Bwahaha. Even I can’t make that happen.

  69. Tim says:

“This place is more empty than a D cup bra on Lisab”

    Now, that’s funny!!!!!!!

  70. Tim says:

    #67:
Actually, Obama will be President in 2016.

  71. david says:

Good news from WV….the news is expected from Minn…it’s Minn.

  72. Diogenes says:

If the GOP started to moderate itself, it would stand a good shot at making a comeback. Have to face the facts, you can’t get someone conservative on all 3 planks in the majority of the country anymore. You need to go 2/3 in the midwest and border states and 1/3-1/2 in the coastal areas.

A little bit more economic populism in the midwest, hispanic-friendly in border states, socially/economically liberal in blue states.

I don’t know if the GOP can pull this off. The party is smaller and more conservative and the mainstream media does everything in its power to make sure more moderates join the party and help us with more electable candidates in the general.

The John Birch wing of the party that hijacked the tea party has really done a number on the brand, and that’s after Dubya’s 2nd term already tarnished it.
