Hagan Leads in NC, Christie Dominates Two Polls in NJ

Public Policy Polling released a new poll today for the US Senate race in their home state of North Carolina that claims Kay Hagan leads a slew of Republican challengers. Cherie Berry leads a crowded Republican field.

This poll was done February 7-10 among 600 General Election voters and 518 primary voters. There has also been two new polls for the gubernatorial race in new Jersey from Eagleton-Rutgers and Monmouth University that shows how lopsided this race may be in November.

The Rutgers poll was done January 30-February 3 among 756 registered voters. The Monmouth poll was done February 6-10 among 803 registered voters.

    Funny – just had a test at work today:

    BP – 122/65
    Glucose – 90
    Tri’s – 88

    Cholesterol – news was less than great but not bad. It was higher than my measurement a few months back and the LDL was much higher.

    197/132/47

    The ratio is still OK though. However, I am not sure why the fluctuation happened when everything else seems to have stabilized. I have lost 20 pounds from my high weight.

    I really don’t get involved in individual house or senate races, neither the time nor the inclination.

    I just look at the overall GOP situation and shake my head.

    We have lost the social issues, we have lost the national defense/ law and order edge, and we have lost the economic appeal.

    This is what happens when a rotating set of factions takes turns in playing Dem-Lite on issue after issue. Healthcare, immigration, economy, social issues, you name it. One group says amnesty is ok, then another group says abortion is acceptable, and then another group thinks socialized medicine is fine. Meanwhile, everyone has become good at spending.

That has to be a record.

    Anybody can make mistakes. The Akin remark was stupid, but he could have redeemed himself by letting someone else beat the Queen. Instead of becoming a pariah he would at least done the right thing for the party and the country. He would have generated a lot of goodwill and might even have preserved his electoral viability for elected office.

    Instead he proved he was just another deadender. A real scumbag. He belongs to the “if the most conservative candidate cannot win, it’s better to have a Democrat” club.

    It is a reflex issue. The water is necessary just in case. With public speaking, it is very easy to have your voice go extremely dry. They do coach you on how to do it properly but on TV it is hard to take the sip and not look awkward. Speaking to a large crowd in a room and it is much easier to get away with it. I know. I have done that countless times.

    I was more concerned with him touching his head. I am betting he didn’t do that in rehearsal. A guy like him just might need an audience. He was outstanding at the convention.

Instead, I am going to curl up with Anthony Trollope’s splendid biography of Marcus Tullius Cicero. As Imentioned here recently, I have been reading around in Cicero a bit recently. The parallels between his corrupt times and our own are painful and inescapable. “Whoever governs a country,” Cicero wrote in On Duties, “must first see that citizens keep what belongs to them and that the state does not take from individuals what is rightfully theirs. . . . Indeed, the chief reason we have a constitution and government at all is to protect individual property. I am hoping that Jay Dardenne or perhaps my representative Bill Cassidy will oppose her. I think that would be a very close election, but she will be able to buy enough votes in New Orleans to win in the end. I really would love to be proven wrong, but she has been SO bad for SO long and yet wins. So, I need to be proven wrong.

    My point was Ron Paul is a like a dream candidate of the Libertarian\Constitution Parties.

    There would be no reason to ever consider third party if he had gotten the GOP nomination.

    With Rand Paul that is not the case. He could very likely be superior to 3rd party alternatives.

    But if he moves to far to the middle, or starts pushing stupid stuff, then I think a lot of Paul supporters would bolt after the primary.

    But I certainly don’t want to see Marco or Jeb in there so he has my unconditional support for the primary.

    The Nola poll reads like a push poll – all about why LA should take the medicaid funding. I’ll believe it when I see it. Considering Landrieu got 52 percent in 2008 there, I’d think she’d be vulnerable as hell.

    Meanwhile, PPP is claiming Jindal’s approval rating is only 37% – and I call horse*hit. They now claim Landrieu is at 47-45 statewide…sure…
