Hogan Hits Absurd 74% Job Approval Rating in MD

The man that I wrote in for President has reached a ridiculous new high in his job approval rating in the state of Maryland. Our REPUBLICAN Governor of Maryland, Larry Hogan, is up to a 74% job approval rating according to a new poll from Gonzales Research.

MARYLAND GOVERNOR LARRY HOGAN (R) – JOB APPROVAL (Gonzales)
Approve 74%
Disapprove 15%

What is fascinating is even Democrats give Hogan a 66% positive job approval rating, which is higher than the 56% favorable number Republicans in Maryland give to Donald Trump! This could be a big reason you are hearing almost no prominent Democrats even hinting at running for Governor in Maryland even though we are now officially into the mid-term election cycle and Democrats outnumber Republicans by over 2-1 in the state.

This poll was done December 14-January 2 among 823 registered voters.

  1. SoHope says:

Wow! Why is he so popular. I know he came out as against Trump.

  2. Wes says:

    Three words, SoHope:

    Baltimore race riots.

  3. NYCmike says:

“Has any non-white person ever been charged with a hate crime?”

    -Does George Zimmerman count?

  4. Barrett says:

When Hogan came into office, Maryland was $5.1 billion in debt. Over the last 3 years, $4.5 billion of that has been paid off due to fiscal constraint.

In addition, he brought an end to the Baltimore Race Riots by calling in the National Guard, something our former one term failed mayor didn’t want to do.

And yet people perceive him as a moderate. Best governor we have had in decades.

  5. jason says:

“Seriously? Run the numbers again. I fully expect Jason and Phil to fight back.”

I hope my wife will buy this excuse to buy more guns.

    Not optimistic however.

  6. jason says:

It’s sad to be married to someone who believes in the myth of “you have enough guns”.

  7. Bitterlaw says:

Jason – Marry Jul. His grandfather will buy guns for you.

  8. Wes says:

It’s probably best the anti-gun Bitterlaw has a pancreas that prevents him from serving in the military. He would have to do some major soulsearching regarding the conflict between his hatred of guns and his profession.

  9. jason says:

The price of getting more guns is to turn gay?

    Hmmmm…..

  10. jason says:

Bitter is not anti-gun. Besides, I cannot comment because we have a truce on guns.

  11. Cash Cow TM says:

Rumor is that Gov. Hogan has expanded the number of cattle in MD.

    Hogan is our hero.

    Maybe we are Hogan’s Heros.

  12. Wes says:

Cows may be on Hogan’s heroes, Walt.

  13. NYCmike says:

-One more reason why I, unlike Wes and his mini-me, MD, always believed Ron Johnson had a fighter’s chance to be re-elected.

  14. NYCmike says:

“The price of getting more guns is to turn gay?”

-Well, you have the stock of the gun, which includes the butt and the foreskin, the barrel, which some like long and some like short, and then there is the action, which works when the other parts are played with.

Also, you should always practice safety, to prevent unintended consequences.

It looks like guns may be bi-sexual.

  15. Bitterlaw says:

It’s probably best the anti-gun Bitterlaw has a pancreas that prevents him from serving in the military. He would have to do some major soulsearching regarding the conflict between his hatred of guns and his profession.

I am not anti-gun. Buy as many as you want. If I had been allowed in the military I would have shot anybody that deserved it. I just don’t want to own one now. I am far more likely to shoot myself than anybody else.

  16. Bitterlaw says:

My boss has a gun in his office. It keeps the meetings short and civil.

  17. NYCmike says:

    “It’s probably best the anti-gun Bitterlaw….”

-Bitterlaw is anti-gun, and my favorite Senator is Chuckie Schumer, the person who spawned Anthony Weiner.

    Geez Louise!

Wes has gone full cuckoo. NEVER go full cuckoo.

  18. NYCmike says:

“When Hogan came into office, Maryland was $5.1 billion in debt. Over the last 3 years, $4.5 billion of that has been paid off due to fiscal constraint.”

    -NICE work, Hogan!

As opposed to here in NY, where we have Cuomo heralding the most expensive subway ever built, and it only took about 100 years to do it.

  19. NYCmike says:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4091012/Trump-mocks-Obamacare-lie-Democrats-head-clown-Chuck-Schumer-says-work-GOP-pass-expensive-replacement.html

-Republicans need some women on their leadership team.

And who is the lady cowboy dressed up all in red with Obama?

Is that a continuation of that clown meme from back in October?

  20. wvally says:

The Environmental Protection Agency is asking all its employees whether they are straight, gay, or “something else” in an effort to create a more “inclusive” workplace.

The survey also asks the employee’s pay grade, supervisory status, education, age, marital status, and race, before inquiring, “What sex were you assigned at birth?”

After asking employees if they describe themselves as male, female, transgender, or none of the above, the EPA asks what they “think of when answering the last question.” Choices are “My biological anatomy,” “Characteristics of my personality,” “How others view me/societal expectations of me,” “How I see myself,” and “Other.”

    http://freebeacon.com/politics/epa-asks-employees-theyre-straight-gay-something-else/

  21. Barrett says:

I know I’m not a registered Republican, but I do lean to the right. The issues i’m most conservative on are (in order)

    #1 – Fiscal Responsibility
    #2 – Gun ownership rights
    #3 – Cutting taxes
    #4 – Border security
#5 – Getting rid of political correctness

  22. Barrett says:

“What sex were you assigned at birth?”

There are 10 different ways I could make a joke about this.

If Trump guts the EPA, I wont shed a tear

  23. DW says:

At 12:36 am on election night, Chris Matthews and Eugene Robinson are both ticked off that whites in PA came out to vote for Trump, because when the Dem gap in Philly exceeds 450,000 then the Republican shouldn’t be allowed to win.

    From my Atlas:

Chris Matthews on MSNBC is “amazed at the ethnic breakdown in the country the way it’s going…is not a pretty picture. [Eugene Robinson interrupts: “No, It is not pretty at all”] I am just watching it…when you get a tremendous black vote out of the city of Philly and then you have this counter-punch pattern” [Eugene Robinson takes over] “You had very robust turnout among Latinos among African Americans who came out, delivered the votes…but there was a much bigger turnout from those rural areas—small towns…there is racial a divide, urban versus…rural divide.”

So its OK and natural for blacks to run up the score in Philly, but its a racial problem for whites to turn out in the rest of the state to stop the black vote in Philly.

  24. Jake says:

I think Dems like Hogan in MD, because he can be overridden on any veto by the Legislature. Therefore he has limited power. Similar to Baker in Mass.

  25. Jake says:

Guv races are huge in 2018 for the 2020 census. So are keeping as many chambers as possible to combat new Dem Governors.

  26. Wes says:

Actually, Jake, Republicans have enough State Representatives in Maryland to sustain Hogan’s vetoes. They need 48 to sustain him and have 51.

  27. Jake says:

Really? Thanks Wes. So Mass is the only GOP Gov who cannot sustain a veto?

  28. Wes says:

If Hogan wins and Republicans sustain their bumbers in the STate House in 2018, then Republicans can influencc MD redistricting in 2021 and get fair maps.

  29. Wes says:

I’m not sure if Rauner in IL can sustain a veto with the 60% threshold there.

  30. DW says:

Special election on Tuesday in VA Beach for the House of Delegates seat vacated by Scott Taylor, the new member of the US House of Representatives.

The Dem in the race has hauled in money from all 50 states aided by liberal groups trying to play off of frustration that Trump won.

Republican is Rocky Holcomb, who has had mailers out about every 3rd or 4th day.

  31. jason says:

What sex were you assigned at birth?”

    Oral.

  32. Wes says:

Do you think Northam will be hurt by Periello’s primary challenge to him, DW?

  33. ssq says:

If Hogan wins and Republicans sustain their bumbers”

    What’s a bumber?

  34. ssq says:

and my favorite Senator is Chuckie Schumer, the person who spawned Anthony Weiner.”

    Schumer’s is Weiner’s daddy?

    Who knew?

  35. Jake says:

Rauner is good Wes. He won 4 state house seats to get to 51 and break the super majority. He spent about 30 million to do it.

State Senate is 37-22 and still a super majority.

Big question is whether Chris Kennedy, of the Drunk Nobility, will run in 2018 for the Dems

  36. Wes says:

What sex were you assigned at birth?

    Hetero

  37. Jake says:

Who do we have in FL for 2018?

  38. Wes says:

Justice and Cooper can’t sustain vetoes on the Dem side.

  39. jason says:

my favorite Senator is Chuckie Schumer, the person who spawned Anthony Weiner.”

Translation: NYC doesn’t really like Schumer, he just doesn’t have a problem with Trump funding him for decades.

His real problem is that Rubio shook hands with Schumer.

    I hope its clear now.

  40. DW says:

33 – hard to say…waiting to see how it unfolds.

  41. Wes says:

Putnam is the likely strongest GOP candidate to replace Scott.

  42. ssq says:

What sex were you assigned at birth?”

    Missionary.

  43. jason says:

    – hard to say…waiting to see how it unfolds.”

DW scared me, I thought he was answering the sex at birth question.

  44. Marc says:

Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi will be named to a post in the Trump White House, Trump aides finalizing her role.

  45. Phil says:

Pretty sure Democrats will filibuster Trump’s first Supreme Court pick. mcConnel and Republicans reluctant to nuke the filibuster and Schumer knows it. Outside of Tester, Manchin, and the gal from ND (all up for reelection is red states) + 52 Republicans not nearly enough votes to break a filibuster. That process wastes half a year. What about Trump’s second pick? Same situation. That gets filibustered as well. Hell, what stops them?

  46. Wes says:

Don’t forget Donnelly, McCaskill, Stabenow, Nelson, Baldwin, and Casey all hail from Trump states, Phil, while Kaine and King come from states Trump did well in.

  47. jason says:

Well, Trump could pick someone that is not very conservative, let’s say mainstream conservative, with the understanding that if he gets rejected for frivolous reasons (i.e. he is not a liberal) he will appoint a fire breathing conservative and use the nuclear option (assuming McConnell agrees with the strategy).

  48. jason says:

That would put the Dems in a quandary.

Somewhat akin to Reps voting for Garland rather than someone more liberal Hillary was sure to appoint.

  49. Mr.Vito says:

    Too many Rs.

  50. Wes says:

I imagine Republicans would have refused to bring any Hillary nominees to the High Court to a vote.

  51. Mr.Vito says:

    https://mobile.twitter.com/samthielman/status/817022669564551168/photo/1

More embarrassment for WaPo… although this one got an immediate response. Still looking for a ‘real’ retraction of their two fake news stories on Russian hacking.

  52. jason says:

The fact is that Trump was the least conservative GOP candidate in the field and I doubt he has any interest of appointing a very conservative (Scalia) type. They would have had no such luck with Rubio. Maybe I am wrong but I think he is appointing a Kennedy or at most a Roberts.

So under the scenario I laid out above, the Dems would be foolish not to confirm someone like that, Trump would probably pick someone more conservative the second time around just to spite them.

  53. jason says:

I imagine Republicans would have refused to bring any Hillary nominees to the High Court to a vote.”

For 4 years? I doubt it.

  54. jason says:

If Hillary had won they would have brought Garland up for a vote.

The Dems could have then filibustered their own nominee if they wanted.

  55. Mr.Vito says:

“The price of getting more guns is to turn gay?”

No one said you had to have sex. Just marry him for the guns.

  56. Walt says:

The whole world has gone mad.

Went to local IRS office to get a form that allows me, with permission from son #2, to be allowed to be given his tax info regarding past tax liability he owes and deal with it. Just like I got similar form when I went to State tax office.

Walk in IRS lobby where there are forms. Not the form I want. Door to next waiting area is ajar so I walk in–like I have done on numerous occasions before in past years on other issues. 15 chairs and only one person ahead of me.

Right by the vacant security officer’s desk is a little machine where you punch in and it spits out a number (like KFC, etc.) so I start to do that (like I have done numerous times before) and security guard appears.

Wags finger at me and tells me no. Hands me an 8×11 inch sheet of paper saying I have to have an appointment now. Paper has the number you call for an appointment. Sign in inner lobby says “No Cell Phone Use”. Guard says go out in outer lobby and call this number to tell them you are here and get an appointment.

Call the number. Automated voice says your call will be handled in 4 to 7 minutes. I wait. After 5 minutes a real person comes on phone in Cleveland, Denver, Washington or wherever.

Tell her what I want, and that I need an appointment to get this form. She says they should just give you the form, no appointment necessary.

I says security guard says I need an appointment.

    She says “Where are you?”
    Me: WV, Martinsburg.
She: what time is it there?
    Me: 11:25 a.m.
She says the next available appointment is 2 p.m.
She: Just tell them you need form 2848–you do not need an appointment for that.
    Me: Thank you.

I go to try to get back into inner lobby waiting room. Door locked. With an armed security officer inside. I decide to leave. (Cash Cow wanted to ram the door down).

I go home and will download the mf-ing form.

    DRAIN THE SWAMP!

  57. Mr.Vito says:

I am considering marrying Mr.Bitter so he can’t testify against me.

  58. jason says:

“The price of getting more guns is to turn gay?”

No one said you had to have sex. Just marry him for the guns.”

Huh, you try to explain that you are married to another guy but you don’t have sex.

  59. Wes says:

Just say he’s in the military and you want the dependent card, Jason.

  60. jason says:

Besides, I am already married to a woman who is about as enthusiastic about my guns as I am about her gardening (I never ask her to clean my guns, but I am often asked to do something for the garden. Fortunately I am not Walt who never says no).

  61. Mr.Vito says:

“Huh, you try to explain that you are married to another guy but you don’t have sex.”

Seems as easy as when men and women do it to get someone a green card.

  62. Walt says:

    jason,

    I heard that.

If I did not have so many things on the “to do” list my wife has given me, I would do something about your negative comment about me.

  63. Mr.Vito says:

I think Trump has every intention of replacing Scalia with someone in his mold.

  64. DW says:

10 inches of snow forecast to fall in Virginia Beach.

Translating that amount into other places of the country in terms of perception and impact, it is like:

    20 inches in Philly
    25 inches in DC
    30 inches in Chicago
    45 inches in Green Bay
    50 inches in Buffalo

  65. Mr.Vito says:

    20 inches in Philly

    30 inches in Chicago
    45 inches in Green Bay
    50 inches in Buffalo

Is this a Milo Yiannopolous diary entry?

    ZING!

  66. Walt says:

    DW,

You can borrow my snow blower.
It is gassed up and ready to blow..err..go.

You can pay with a few pounds of steamed shrimp and some crab cakes and crab legs.
And a bale of hay for Cash Cow.

  67. Walt says:

Today, I happened to be out by the mailbox when the AA mailman who is my usual mail carrier drove up.

He told me he hoped I would be getting back into politics. I told him that was not going to happen.

He said he really appreciated talking to me about political issues and that he was so appreciative of me taking the time some time back of filling him in on all the issues concerning coal production in WV.

  68. Neil T says:

    Can/will he run for Senate?

  69. jason says:

Things I will not do for the garden.

    Spread mulch.
Buy and carry big bags of dirt and cowsh-t.
    Pull weeds.
    Prune.

    Things I will do.

    Water.
    Pick tomatoes for a salad.
    Make unhelpful comments.

  70. Mr.Vito-Que says:

“Today, I happened to be out by the mailbox when the AA mailman…”

When will he move up to AAA? Someday I hope he is in the big leagues.

  71. jason says:

Can I say that is one good looking llama without anybody taking it the wrong way?

  72. jason says:

    Neil T?

    Welcome to HHR.

    Tell us about yourself.

  73. Marc says:

The Dems try to block a court nominee, thanks to Harry Reid the GOP uses the nuclear option. Schumer already knows how this game ends he’s just playing politics.

  74. ssq says:

eems as easy as when men and women do it to get someone a green card.”

Why would some people have sex to get someone a green card? Or blue or yellow?

“His own beer is reportedly a fruity tasting pilsner.”

    Heh

  77. jason says:

If I did not have so many things on the “to do” list my wife has given me, I would do something about your negative comment about me.”

    It was not negative Walt.

I think its admirable a man your age can be such a work horse.

  78. jason says:

I don’t care if I am not PC.

Flavored beers are for wusses and sissies.

  79. Phil says:

    What constitutes a “hate crime”?

I’ll use two examples for you to clear it up.

Four blacks kidnap a white special needs person, tie him up, make him drink from the toilet, scalp him until they draw blood, beat him up, and in various other ways torture him for 24 to 48 hours, and then release him into the cold where he wanders totally disoriented. They video the event and yell F white people, F Trump.

Not a hate crime. Young people making bad choices. Not all that much to see here.

Four whites kidnap a black special needs person, tie him up, make him drink from the toilet, scalp him until they draw blood, beat him up, and in various other ways torture him for 24 to 48 hours, and then release him into the cold where he wanders totally disoriented. They video the event while yelling F black people, F Obama.

    Clearly a hate crime.

    See the difference?

Neither do I, but then I’m just some yokel from flyover country who isn’t sophisticated enough to sort out the subtle differences. The elites on CNN and the NYT can easily see them, but people like myself aren’t capable of it.

  80. Marc says:

    Surprise, Surprise

Democratic lawmakers considering challenge to Trump’s Electoral College victory

The Democrats will stop at nothing to hold on to power and there is a coordinated effort to try to legitimize Trumps victory with the media, Democrats and the intelligence agencies.

The push back from President Trump and Republicans need to be serve and loud.

  81. Cash Cow TM says:

“…make him yell F white (or black) people…”

Perhaps it is in the inflection of the voice and whether the criminals tell the victim to put the most emphasis on “F”, “white” (or black) or “people”?

  82. Walt says:

    “…AA mailman…”

No, he is not a minor league mail carrier.
No, he is not in Alcoholics Anonymous.

AA means African American, you mo-fos.

I have always enjoyed great support from some (small) segments of the AA community, except when I did not.

  83. Mr.Vito says:

When they said ‘eff white people’ they clearly meant to encourage interracial dating…

  84. Marc says:

Good article on Trumps Supreme Court strategy from HotAir

    http://hotair.com/archives/2017/01/03/short-list-forming-for-the-supreme-court-now-and-in-the-future/

They expect to make 2 to 3 appointments

  85. Mr.Vito says:

When they ‘eff white cops’ they are clearly talking about this woman…

  86. Mr.Vito says:

Don Lemon: “I don’t think it’s evil. I think these are young people and I think they have bad home training. I say, who is raising these young people? I have no idea who’s raising these young people. Because no one I know on Earth who is 17 years old or 70 years old would ever think of treating another person like that. It is inhumane. And you wonder, at 18 years old, where is your parent? Where’s your guardian?”

Why not? Same thing they say about ISIS… they just need hugs.

  87. DW says:

82- its like on election night when Chris Matthews and Eugene Robinson openly decried the horrors of the racial problem of whites turning out in droves to vote in one direction—AT THE SAME TIME they were praising the AAs in Philly for getting their job done.

It takes unusual sophistication to be able to figure this out.

  88. NYCmike says:

    Marc,

Unfortunately, the scenario that Politico spells out sounds great, except that it is Politico reporting, and as we usually saw with Robbie, who often cited them, and was usually wrong (this past year, anyway).

  89. wvally says:

You guys have me rolling. Funny thread today.

  90. NYCmike says:

In regards to that womens march in D.C. the day after the inauguration, when is the LIFE March? Isn’t it usually around that time as well?

  91. NYCmike says:

    “You guys have me rolling.”

    -Too many Christmas butter cookies?

  92. Mr.Vito says:

    This march will be awesome.

Think of all the Sammiches that can be fetched!

  93. Marc says:

Former Senate Dan Coats pick to be National Intelligence Director

  94. jason says:

Bunu probably won’t like it, Coats is solidly establishment, and a hardliner when it comes to ISIS, Guantanamo and Israel.

  95. DW says:

The Obama White House has released an Asteroid preparedness plan which seeks to identify and prepare for near-earth objects that pose a threat to earth.

No doubt the study was very expensive. They could have hired me to do it on the cheap. I would have charged them just 10k or so and then provided the following plan should we learn there is about to be a major asteroid strike:

    “Say your prayers”

  96. Wes says:

Evan Bayh must be pissed. Not only did he lose badly in his bid to return to the Senate, but his predecessor/successor in the Senate will now be DNI.

How badly is Bayh kicking himself now for going through the completely unnecessary humiliation of 2016?

  97. Wes says:

In regards to that womens march in D.C. the day after the inauguration, when is the LIFE March? Isn’t it usually around that time as well

Is there really a need for annual marches on Washington by one-issue voters?

  98. DW says:

Wes, I am enjoying reviewing the senate coverage on election night among the networks. CNN just quit talking about the senate after Young won.

MSNBC was the funniest. Even after MSNBC called Rubio, Young, Burr and Johnson all winners of their races, they still kept saying there was a shot that the Democrats could take control of the senate. It’s like they had their show-prep talking points and just didn’t know what else to say.

But with those races done, and by that point Trump clearly headed to victory, the Dems still needed 4 flips.

The only competitive races left where this could happen included:

NH – at the time was dead even with the slow returns coming in.
MO – Blunt held a sizeable lead, but they just wouldn’t call it
PA – They stopped updating this race as it was apparent that Toomey had taken lead.

Even if all three somehow went democrat, they would still need one more, meaning they would have to flip LA or AK.

  99. Mr.Vito says:

  100. DW says:

103 – do they get a few bonus virgins for being disabled prior to blowing themselves up?

  101. jason says:

“How badly is Bayh kicking himself now for going through the completely unnecessary humiliation of 2016?”

    I bet not too much.

“Indiana Democratic leader Evan Bayh’s net worth has shot up drastically since leaving office in 2010, according to a new financial disclosure filed late Sunday night, Politico reported.

Bayh has earned almost $6.3 million in income since January 2015, which includes fees for delivering speeches and articles but does not incorporate income from investments.

According to the records, Bayh’s 19-page personal financial document highlights his family’s net worth over the last six years, right from income details as former senator to post-Congress career at various financially strong K Street firms and as part of corporate boards.

Bayh, along with his wife Susan, has assets worth between $13.7 million and $47.7 million, which is a sharp rise from 2010 where the duo disclosed $6.8 million to $8 million worth of assets.”

  102. Jake says:

Bayh was the 59th vote on Obamacare. Never should have ran. Donnelly voted for it in the House too.

Good to see new Cook County DA, A Black Female, had the guts to charge the monsters with a Hate Crime.

  108. DW says:

110- they all knew it by then. Even MSNBC’s Steve Karnacki kept saying from his computer screen that there was no way Clinton could come back to win PA or WI. But everyone had to wait for hours needlessly because the MSM wouldn’t call these states.

The moment Clinton took the lead in VA they all called it. The same demographics were in play in reverse in PA, and as soon as Trump took the lead there, they should have called it. Philly and Pittsburgh were done, and there were still red counties with more to report.

My favorite on election night was Jonathon Karl at ABC. For two and a half hours kept going on and on about how Hillary was going to take the lead in Florida once Broward County was in. On and on he went. Completely ignored the fact that two thirds of the Broward vote was the early vote and that was already showing by about 8:00.

Finally, about 10:00 acknowledged that 98% of the Broward vote was in and by George Trump’s more than 100,000 plus vote lead was holding up and the trend looked like Trump was going to get the state after all. Better late than never I suppose.

Got to hand it to Stehanopolis. He was professional all night and began talking upset and acknowledging the trends favoring Trump as early as the second half of the 8:00 hour. Did a very good, objective job throughout the night. I was pleasantly surprised.

While at the CIA, Morell’s top goal was to promote greater inclusiveness and diversity. The CIA has come a long way since the days of the polygraph question, “Have you ever held another man’s penis in your hand?” Today we have more employees working in encouraging diversity and, as of recently, more transgender employees than we do case officers operating under cover in Russia, China, Libya, Syria, Yemen, Iran, and North Korea combined. Despite repeated accusations that I am against alcohol consumption, I am only opposed to people driving drunk. You can drink yourself to death for all I care. Just don’t drive while you do it. Despite repeated accusations that I am against alcohol consumption, I am only opposed to people not named George W. Bush driving drunk.

There. I fixed it for you, Bitter.

  189. DW says:

193 – DC already has a rail system too. I try to avoid DC at all costs.

  190. Wes says:

DW, any chance Comstock challenges Kaine?

I’d imagine much depends on how well the VAGOP does in the upcoming statewide elections in November.

  191. NYCmike says:

    Wes has really lost it…..

  192. Wes says:

197 is deeply ironic considering the source.

  193. DW says:

196 – no idea, my hunch would be that Comstock stays put. Its weird, but in a way, Kaine’s veep run likely increased his name recognition and perception among VA voters, and probably not in a good way.

I expect his failed veep run probably hurts him here more than helps him. I know he was also governor for four years, but for many here in VA, they just show up, vote for the D, and go on with their day. But now they really, really know all about Kaine and I would think him quite vulnerable when he runs for re-election.

  194. Wes says:

Who else would be a strong challenger then?

As a NoVA-based Congresswoman who beat a highly touted opponent in a district that flipped to the Dems by 11 points in 2016 (1 point for Romney in 2012 to 10 points for Hillary last year, I can’t imagine Comstock would be anything but the strongest Republican to run against Kaine.

  195. Wes says:

To win statewide in VA, Republicans have to win substantially in Outstate VA and keep the Dems under a 10-point victory in NoVA. Gillespie nearly accomplished this in 2014, but I’m unsure who else can do it.

  196. Bitterlaw says:

Poor Wes. Still not capable of understanding the distinction of civil liability of an employer for an employee’s actions and no civil liability for a voter for an elected official’s actions. It is really simple but Wes just can’t grasp it.

  197. DW says:

Wes, look at Scott Taylor, the newly election Congressman from VA Beach.

He is moving up the ladder quickly. He grabbed the position of state rep here, then knocked out Randy Forbes in the primary, then won the congressional seat. By all evidence I have seen here he wants to move up the ladder quickly and go as far as he can.

He would run up the score in VA Beach–something essential for defeating a Democrat statewide. Of course he would grab all the rural areas statewide, and then it would all come down to northern VA.

  198. DW says:

The people I saw locally here who really were drawn to Taylor are those with the “throw out the bums” attitude. Kaine is a bum. Taylor is a military guy capable of throwing Kaine out.

  199. DW says:

I know the unelected judge’s appointed CA university professor who redistricted Virginia made VA_02 more red to guarantee a blue district 04, however, it wasn’t made deep red, and yet Scott Taylor defeated his Democrat opponent 62/38.

  208. Wes says:

  212. Bitterlaw says:

  213. Conservative Populist says:

It’s great to have Hogan or other Rs winning in blue states…just don’t count on most of them being there for our new president when the going gets tough. Same goes for Congress – Ryan, McCain, Graham et al. are spineless.

  214. DW says:

Wes, I am not sure about Rob Wittman, but he strikes me as someone who might just be content to be doing what he is doing. Not everyone wishes to push the climb on the ladder. Regarding Taylor, I wasn’t necessarily saying he was a lock or even that I was rooting for him. I was actually for Forbes in the primary. I was just reporting my perceptions of his ambitions.

But make no mistake, Taylor will at the very least give that senate race a look, if not actually sign on to run.

  215. Wes says:

You know, Bitter, when the DUI became public knowledge in October 2000, many Americans unlike you weren’t hypocrites and refused to vote for the incompetent, drunk-driving bastard.

Others openly wished they could have their early votes back to vote for Gore.

    That tells me two things:

    1) You should find the inventor of early voting and kisses his ass daily since the Incompetent One would have lost without it, despite your longstanding disdain for early voting.

    2) Unlike you, the voters who switched from Bush to Gore after the DUI revelation aren’t hypocrites and walk the walk as well as talk the talk.

    Now GFY, you hypocritical bastard.

  216. NYCmike says:

“It is really simple but Wes just can’t grasp it.”

-Are we still speaking about the “ever held another man’s penis in your hand?””

This may be a +1 for Wes if the answer is NO.

  217. NYCmike says:

  221. NYCmike says:

Wes is also the same person who believes that if you march to protect an unborn child, you are a “single-issue” voter.

    hypocrisy

    noun, plural hypocrisies.
    1.
a pretense of having a virtuous character, moral or religious beliefs or principles, etc., that one does not really possess.
    2.
a pretense of having some desirable or publicly approved attitude.
    3.
an act or instance of hypocrisy.

  226. Wes says:

How’s that “March for Life” been working out, Mike?

Neither Roe v. Wade nor abortion is ever going away, and the politicians most heavily associated with the anti-choice crowd–think Akin and Mourdock–tend to receive political haymakers in the elections.

It would seem to me working to get laws like parental notification and ban of PBA would be more productive efforts than marches ignored by most people in the country and political class anyway.

  227. Tina says:

Not a nation state that did the hacking, mcafee.

    Must be a basement dweller.

  228. Waingro says:

#232, Trump just admitted Russia did hacking.

  229. Waingro says:

But not Rachel Maddow on MSNBC. Her first words were to call out the name of someone among Trump’s campaign staff who is a radical fringe right-winger who years ago went to Arkansas trying to find dirt on the Clintons.

He must have been pretty unskilled. If you had to LOOK for Clinton dirt you must have had your eyes shut.

There is an election this Tuesday to fill the state delegate seat vacated by Scott Taylor, now US Congressman.

Problem: There may be as much as a foot of snow on the ground throughout the voting area with most road totally un-cleared and impassable. This will test voter intensity to see who shows up to cast their ballots. Not too many around here have snowmobiles, so most would have to walk to the polls.

Democrats have used rage over Trump winning to draw in funding from all 50 states for this election.

The Republican is Rocky Holcomb. I have gotten a mailer from his campaign 4 out of the last 5 days.

  247. Big Joe says:

Well we may get an inch or two of snow here in Metro Atlanta, so time to freak out. Luckily, I was able to grab a couple of large pizzas from Papa Johns to help us ride out this snowpocalypse.

Back to politics, its going to be an interesting four years. TRUMPSANITY. The Donald still attacking everyone, still tweeting, still entertaining.

Looks like the Bern is leading the opposition at the moment. Dems need some new faces to step up but I don’t see it just yet. I’m sure there are plans being hatched behind the scenes to turn the Republicans against each other.

“ISIS’ index finger signal is a gesture with the index finger raised up from an otherwise closed hand. For followers of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant it is often used as a sign of their cause.

The gesture is alluding to tawhid, the indivisible oneness concept of monotheism in Islam. All adherents to the Muslim faith believe in tawhid. Thus, many mainstream Muslims believe that ISIL militants have corrupted the meaning of this symbol, which has a history of being used in a non-violent manner throughout the Muslim world.”

The fact other people could make the same gesture and not be referencing ISIS is irrelevant, but lisab is too stupid to understand that.

Here is my NFL forecast from someone who doesn’t follow it…first I organize the teams into their groups:

    People groups:

    Patriots 14-2
    Cowboys 13-3
    Steelers 11-5
    Packers 10-6
    Texans 9-7
    Bills
    Browns
    Saints
    49ers

    Mythological groups:

    Giants 11-5
    Titans

    Native American groups:

    Chiefs 12-4
    Redskins

    Terrorists:

    Raiders 12-4
    Buccaneers
    Vikings

    Misc. Animals:

    Dolphins 10-6
    Bears

    Birds:

    Falcons 11-5
    Seahawks 10-5-1
    Ravens
    Eagles
    Cardinals

The power this year was in the people group teams, followed by birds.

So it will come down to Patriots vs Cowboys in Super Bowl, and of the two Cowboys will likely win.

  308. DW says:

whoops…my copy / paste missed some of the teams:

    Cats:

    Lions 9-7
    Bengals
    Jaguars
    Panthers

    Hooved animals:

    Colts
    Broncos
    Rams

    Misc:

    Jets
    Chargers

  309. Mr.Vito says:

    Vicente Fox Quesada? @VicenteFoxQue
Sr Trump, the intelligence report is devastating.Losing election by more than 3M votes and in addition this. Are you a legitimate president?

  310. jason says:

Poor Vicente Fox, never heard of the Electoral College.

There was no popular vote election.

  311. jason says:

Vicente Fox is about as relevant to the current political scene as Walter Mondale.

  312. jason says:

I guess I should feel bad for Author, I once considered him a friend.

It’s one thing to sell out and win.

But when you sell out and lose, what’s left.

    Kissing Vicente Fox’s ass?

  313. Mr.Vito says:

  316. jason says:

Ah, that would explain why Author is angry at the Russians.

They hacked his projection desk and inserted all those Hillary landslide calls.

  317. Mr.Vito says:

Author also said the Cubs could never win because the goat curse was real… like really real.

  318. Snikikov Hakov says:

This is correct. Comrade Author was hacked as part of a program to make Hillary complacent while Trump ate her caviar.

  329. jason says:

‘Fight to move the Republican Party where they want it to go?”

You mean your strategy of electing more liberal Democrats like Coons, Bennett, Donelly, McCaskill, Reid, etc?

    No thanks.

  330. Wes says:

I left the GOP in ’06 because I was disgusted with Bush’s unmitigated failure as President, Mike. I refuse to be part of any party GWB is a member of.

  331. NYCmike says:

    And jason responds with………more nonsense.

The archives are still there….feast on January 2016 – June 2016, just for starters.

  332. NYCmike says:

Good, Wes mentioned BUSH, which should lead to a fight between him and jason.

    OUT to shovel!

    CHEERS!

  333. Wes says:

Don’t forget Hassan, Jason. Mike is a big fan of Aron Day for running against Kelly Ayotte and splitting her vote to help Hassan win.

Apparently because Mike and Day haven’t read the Constitution, they don’t understand the concepts of vetoes and 2/3 majorities since they cite the GOP Congress’ inability to end Obamacare with Obama as President as the reason why…a moonbat Democrat and supporter of Obamacare needs to be in the Senate.

I’d have an easier time explaining how the Millennium Falcon made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs than trying to make sense of that tortured logic.

  339. Wes says:

    Huh?

  340. Wes says:

They taught her a lesson, all right, Jason. They taught her the so-called base is just like the pig-snouted people in the classic Twilight Zone episode Eye of the Beholder:

They demand absolute conformity without even minor infractions from their rigid ideology and will rain down doom on anyone (excluding moonbat Democrats) exhibiting even slight apostasy from their absolutist views.

  341. jason says:

    Whoops…

  342. jason says:

“They demand absolute conformity without even minor infractions from their rigid ideology and will rain down doom on anyone (excluding moonbat Democrats) exhibiting even slight apostasy from their absolutist views.”

Of course, when its convenient all that goes out the window and you get:

Let me get this straight: Because I said that Aaron Day had the RIGHT to run as an independent in a general election, that is “translated” by Wes and jason into I wanted Ayotte to lose, Hassan to win, and Schumer to become Majority Leader.

    HHR is one “magical” place.

  367. NYCmike says:

    Walt,

The search for that Boeing 777 out of Malaysia seemed to take a new turn, last I read.

    Any news?

  368. Bitterlaw says:

That was a damn fine toad.

  369. Walt says:

    NYCMike,

That Malaysian jet liner took its last turn many months ago.

  370. Bitterlaw says:

How many shares of Microsoft are the refs getting? Lions getting hosed on the last non-call on pass interference.

  371. Wes says:

Detroit didn’t play a good game, but the referees did everything necessary to help the Seahawks win.

There were at least two questionable calls benefiting the Seahawks I can think of.

  372. lisab says:

ACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — A 57-year-old convicted killer serving a life sentence in California became the first U.S. inmate to receive state-funded sex-reassignment surgery, the prisoner’s attorneys confirmed Friday to The Associated Press.

California prison officials agreed in August 2015 to pay for the surgery for Shiloh Heavenly Quine, who was convicted of first-degree murder, kidnapping and robbery for ransom and has no possibility of parole

  373. lisab says:

let me get this straight …

an inmate serving LIFE for murder

    with NO possibility of parole

    is given sex reassignment surgery?!!!

    why?

it is really expensive surgery. give him/her hormones … no problem, that is cheap

but surgery?!!! he is not getting out of prison … now transexuals will be admitting to crimes just to get in prison to get the surgery, it is very expensive.

“yes, i shot jfk, i need surgery. oh, i lied, let me out”.

  374. jason says:

Because I said that Aaron Day had the RIGHT”

    Zzzzzzzzz…..

Nobody ever said anything about “right to run”.

All the deadenders your support have the “right to run”. And Senators Reid, Coons, McCaskill, Donnelly, Bennett and Hassan are certainly all very grateful.

    Next red herring?

  375. jason says:

lisab believes the government should provide free food, health care, housing, transportation, education, vacations and utilities.

But she is putting her foot down on free transgender surgeries.

I admire someone with such a commitment to fiscal responsibility.

Terrorist rams truck into Israeli soldiers, 4 killed.

Dems to blame trucks in 3, 2, 1……

  377. DW says:

Local VA Beach headline on Friday before the snowstorm hit:

“Highway Crews ready for the storm.”

(And they show the picture of a snowplow sitting in front of a building)

Now the headline, the morning after the storm:

“Roads in bad shape, interstate conditions improving following winter storm.”

Wait…I am confused, I thought they said they were ready?

Of course by northern standards, they were unquestionably a huge failure, as only the interstates saw the blade of a snowplow and all the secondary highways and roads are simply worn down by motorists trying to drive on them.

  378. Mr.Vito says:

They may not blame trucks… but they will blame Israel…

  379. Bitterlaw says:

I understand that there is no reason to keep an army of plows ready in Southern states but snow is not much of a challenge. Drive slower. Ice? You’re screwed no matter where you live.

  380. Bitterlaw says:

Deadenders have the right to for office. Idiots who vote for them own the Democrats who get elected.

  381. Wes says:

I don’t think anyone’s ever argued Deadenders have no right to run for office. NYCMike just refuses to criticize them for electing moonbats.

By the way, after the election, Aaron Day was highfiving himself for helping Hassan win. NYCMike will now refuse to criticize Day because of course Day had the right to brag about putting Hassan into office.

I’ve never quite understood the Deadender logic that helping Dems elect a moonbat who will vote 99-100% against supposed Deadender ideals is preferable to having a Republican such as Ayotte who will vote 90+% with stated Deadender ideals serve in office.

It’s like trying to understand the plot of Lucio Fulci’s The Beyond. It’s simply impossible to make sense of.

  382. NYC says:

“Deadenders have the right to for office. Idiots who vote for them own the Democrats who get elected.”

Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me.

  383. jason says:

“I’ve never quite understood the Deadender logic that helping Dems elect a moonbat who will vote 99-100% against supposed Deadender ideals is preferable to having a Republican such as Ayotte who will vote 90+% with stated Deadender ideals serve in office.”

Exactly, but NYC is such a hypocrite he actually used this argument to defend Trump.

Countless times he said he was supporting Trump because he was sure Hillary would be liberal 100% of the time but maybe Trump would only be 50% of the time.

However Senators Reid, Bennett, Donnelly, Coons, McCaskill, etc. who are also liberal 100% of the time? No problem, we punished those RINOS.

  387. Wes says:

You’d like The Beyond, Bitter. It has a zombie apocalypse at the end. How that fits into the overall plot I have no clue despite having watched the movie 10 times, but it’s there.

Fulci also directed the greatest European zombie movie ever made–Zombi 2–featuring a unique scene of a zombie fighting a shark.

  388. Wes says:

By the way, the new Resident Evil comes out this month. Maybe Milla Jovovich can finally defeat the Zombie apocalypse.

  389. Wes says:

Mike Tomlin just said the Steelers have a black-white division of labor.

    That’s racist.

  390. jason says:

I don’t think he cares about the teams in the playoffs.

  402. jason says:

Wow. Keystone Cop defense by the Giants on that play.

Packers played like crap most of the half and it didn’t matter.

  403. jason says:

this year in 2017 the great lakes had ice cover will be about 12% on 1/9/2017

    clearly global warming is happening

  412. SanDiegoCitizen says:

    437. Do you have a source for these claims? Its colder than usual this year in that area. Am afraid a significant number of purported “global warming” studies are badly biased. Sadly, a lot of the government funding of these type of studies is done with the expectation the study will support a certain viewpoint.

When the Obama administration says the science is “settled”; any scientist who wants further funding better mimic the party line.

Winning is much more fun, as evidenced by the fact that I am still enjoying Trump’s victory even today, finally speaking with my wife’s cousin and family, whom I have not seen since Labor Day or so.

But, as Don Surber points out, a losing candidate and/or the supporters of that candidate, should FIRST look at themselves to see what went wrong, before blaming others. And if a candidate wins, but then does NOTHING with their power, they should not be surprised to lose support.

If Aaron Day is happy about Ayotte losing, he is a loser, since he did not win. I never heard of Ken Buck, Todd Akin, Dick Mourdock, or COD expressing happiness about losing the general election, but winning a primary. It does not work that way for people who are serious about what they are doing.

Governor Brown stated earlier this year that climate change would result in California remaining in a prolonged and even permanent drought condition. Of course California is now getting drenched with a massive amount of rain. Those who push the climate change agenda now state that it will result in California being hit with more major rain and snow storms. Whatever the weather condition, they will claim it is the result of unnatural climate change.

  428. SanDiegoCitizen says:

    451. In answer to Cow’s questions.

California is the nation’s second largest producer of milk. However, Gov Moonbeam & state liberals want to stop methane emissions from cows, so they want every dairy to have an anaerobic digester, so cow manure methane can be saved and used. The problem is it is very expensive. Imports will be lower priced, and may wipe out the California dairy industry. A lot of dairy farmers will move out-of-state.

Hay is expensive now, and imported (although we produce a lot). However, if we loss the dairy industry, then expect less hay production.

California will not pull out — it has too heavy of pension and other debts, and something like 25% of the nations welfare recipients. To survive it would have to tax high tech at a high rate; and tech dislikes taxes in any form. Do you expect “progressive” companies like Google & Apple to pay taxes; how un-Obama of you. They like keeping their stashes hidden off-shore.

Also, California has a high federal payroll — a lot of military bases and research. Big hit on economy if that money stops.

California is going no where. If there was an attempt to leave, the inland counties, and likely the central valley would stay in U.S.

  429. NYCmike says:

“not so happy he won however”

-Time will tell how happy I remain, but the last 2 months have been as good as any! The continued-exploding-of-liberal-brain-cavities has been nothing short of wonderful!

  430. jason says:

I see lisab is trying to re-write history again.

“i did not go around saying he was going to lose by 8 to 11%”

MD said that. He was wrong. But as someone who is habitually wrong here, lisab should realize it happens.

“or attack those who had the audacity to say trump might keep it close”

Actually most here thought it would be a close election, even the NeverTrumpers. I gave him 263 EV’s and said he could win if he came within 2% in the national vote. And of course lisab thought that Hillary would win too.

“of course my candidate was bernie, so i was against hillary on principle”

This is a lie. lisab repeatedly crowed that Hillary’s judicial picks would be great and would change America forever, to the better in her view., The return of busing and her goal of “integrating” bad schools in to good ones was a done deal. The fact is she preferred Hillary to Trump and did not vote for him.

“i am pretty happy she lost”

    Liar.

    Me neither”

Me neither. What I saw was months of lisab predicting conservatism was dead forever because Hillary was going to re-shape the judiciary.

  432. wvally says:

It seemed to me during the election that lisab was trying to make the point that if Hillary won, the judiciary would be massively affected in a way that she would love but that conservatives would hate.

She was very consistent in saying Hillary is incredibly corrupt, and that she didn’t want to vote for her for that reason despite the fact that she would be happy with Hillary’s judicial picks.

As to this: “clearly global warming is happening”

No, it is not clear at all.

  433. NYCmike says:

I, for one, remember MANY times lisab speaking ill of Hillary, and supporting Bernie.

She also was correct that some A-Holes were predicting “8-11%”, and that they were doing this “or attack those who had the audacity to say trump might keep it close” constantly.

jason should find the comments to back up what HE says that lisab said…..otherwise, it is just more of jason’s llama-sh*t be spread around HHR.

I would love to be proven wrong when I see the comments that jason finds.

  436. DW says:

An update to my NFL predictions, from someone who hasn’t watched a single game and doesn’t know anything about it.

First I organized all the teams into groupings of the team names, with those still in contention showing their records:

Birds: Seahawks (12-5); Falcons (11-5); Cardinals; Ravens; Eagles

    Cats: Lions; Bengals; Jaguars; Panthers

Hooved Animals: Broncos; Colts; Rams; Chargers*

    Terrorist Groups: Raiders; Buccaneers; Vikings

    Famous Individuals: Bills, Browns

    Mythological Figures: Giants; Titans

Native American terms: Chiefs (12-4); Redskins

    Occupational Group: Steelers (12-5); Packers (11-6); Cowboys (13-3); 49ers

Other people groups: Patriots (14-2); Texans (10-7); Saints

    Miscellaneous animals: Dolphins; Bears

    Transportation vehicle: Jets

*Originally named for the cheer “Charge” as into battle, and first logo had both a battle horse (a charger) as well as a lightning bolt charge.

As I mentioned in my first post before Saturday’s games, the power seems to be in the people/occupational group teams this year, followed by birds.

    Packers won, Giants lost.
    Texans won, Raiders lost.
    Steelers won, Dolphins lost.
    Seahawks won, Lions lost.

So now there are 2 birds left, 1 native american term, 3 occupational groups and 2 other people groups.

    Predictions for the coming games:

Patriots will beat the Texans in this clash of other people groups.
Steelers will beat the Chiefs as Occupational groups are more powerful than Native American teams.
Falcons will beat the Seahawks in the battle of birds.
Cowboys will beat the Packers in this pairing of Occupational groups.

  437. wvally says:

    Terrorist Groups: Raiders; Buccaneers; Vikings

My Hilton family line traces all the way back to 925 when those Viking bastards were marauding!

The famous Hilton family, according to the historian Hutchinson, “is the most ancient family in England that bears a coat of arms.” A manuscript of the time of Charles II gives the information concerning the ancestral line. Sir William Hilton, knight, married the daughter of Sir John de Grisley and had a son, Adam, who lived in the reign of Athelstan, king of England, A. D. 925. Adam was the “liege” of Athelstan, and he gave the great cross or crucifix to the monastery of Hartlepool and caused his arms to be engraved thereon.

However, when William the Conqueror, descended from the Viking Rollo, invaded England in 1066, Lancelot de Hilton and his two sons, Robert and Henry, joined the Conqueror’s forces.

The geneaology is preserved all the way through William Hilton, who emigrated to Plymouth, Massachusetts in 1621, and from there through to my mother.

  444. Bitterlaw says:

She also was correct that some A-Holes were predicting “8-11%”

    Only MD said that.

  445. NYCmike says:

MD was such an a-hole that I put the word “some” in there to signify that a mere mortal could never be that big of an a-hole, it had to be the supreme A-Hole, who is as big an a-hole as several regular a-holes combined.

I was paying him a compliment.

I remember when MD used to tell us that “The U.S. Constitution is not a suicide pact!”.

Yet, there was NOTHING that our Senate could do about this deal, despite having over 60 Senators who DID NOT APPROVE of the deal.

  448. wvally says:

    Another interesting Hilton family fact:

The Hilton Castle was a neighbor of the Washington Hall in county Durham, and the families were said to be good friends, so much so that the Washington family coat of arms (3 red stars, with white and red stripes) was placed on Hilton castle.

The Hilton family coat of arms was white and blue stripes.

The families continued their friendship in America, in Virginia. Hilton family lore is that the US flag is based on combining the colors and imagery of the two family crests.

  449. janz says:

#474 it’s too bad that such a disruptive voice continues to be a presence. Although MD is a smart, articulate guy, his ego got ahead of his skiis – so much so that he became a little dictator on what he thought was either appropriate or inappropriate to be discussed on this board. Consequently, he slammed anyone who didn’t see the election as he saw it, literally diminishing the numbers posting on this site. IMO, if he had pulled the insults back a bit the blog would have remained more intact.

  450. NYCmike says:

    janz,

I used to enjoy MD’s little games, but he went overboard this past year.

I think he dreamed that you made him make sandwiches for everyone that voted Trump, before wvally even wrote it on here. That is why he skedaddled so quickly.

And his wife told him he couldn’t play here any more!

  451. janz says:

Mike, I’ve posted on this blog for years and always felt a genuine rapport with MD. Initially his vitriol stunned me, and I rationalized that it was a temporary byproduct of a dysfunctional election. But, like a pit bull, he never let go, and seemed to only relish being “relentlessly” boorish. After a while I just begin to return the barbs, which is not my nature. That’s something I regret doing – getting caught up in his web of antagonistic word play.

  452. Barrett says:

#478- I must admit that I bought into the “8-11” narrative. As the election got closer, I revised it down to “5-6”, with 275 for Hillary and 263 for Trump.

I gave myself a pat on the back for predicting that Trump would get 263 when all of the pollsters thought he’d get between 200-235. Not letting it go to my head though.

So far, I am comfortable with nearly all Trump appointees. I think the Republicans have two years to work their tails off and lay a blueprint for a balanced budget.

  453. DW says:

As I work through my 2016 election night coverage chronological atlas (which is now 33 pages single spaced), I am discovering several themes that the networks had built into their show prep narrative:

“Trump has no path to the white house without FL.”

“Paul Ryan is not likely to be speaker in the next congress.”

    “Trump had no ground game”

“Trump has split the Republican Party”

“Latino vote expected to be a huge factor working against Trump.”

“Trump enabled racists whites to have a voice” (or things like this.)

“Women/minorities expected to push Clinton through glass ceiling tonight.”

My favorite thus far is this one:

    8:13 pm

ABC News analyst reports that Trump already starting to lash out on election night, against both Lindsay Graham and the news that George W Bush did not vote for him. Says that “for the first time we are hearing the frustration of what is happening to him tonight.”

This reporter wanted to be the first one to expose Trump’s nasty reaction to losing in a landslide.

  454. DW says:

And 8:48 pm is still the earliest moment I have found when a network acknowledged that the race could be turning:

Fox News hosts discuss the possibility that “the race could be turning right now” in Trump’s favor based on what they see in battleground state returns.

  455. jason says:

Baghdad Janz, who said people who didn’t support Trump were against the American Revolution, is whining about MD’s “vitriol”?

  457. Wes says:

I consistently said Hillary couldn’t beat Trump in the national popular vote by over three points. She received a 48-46 plurality. I said she would win the EC 279-259. She of course lost. Thus, I was right on the popular vote and wrong on the EC.

  458. NYCmike says:

jason must have just gotten out of the repair shop.

  459. NYCmike says:

lisab did say Hillary was corrupt, but she never supported Trump, never said she would vote for him, and always made clear she wanted Hillary to win because of the impact her judicial picks would have on her socialist causes. She also made clear she preferred Democratic policies on just about EVERY topic (i.e. supported Bernie Sanders).

Bernie Sanders is a socialist whose platform is based on wealth redistribution and big government, anti-free enterprise, anti-business, “soak the rich” rhetoric, with the liberal sprinkling of “free” goodies for everyone that lisab thinks she is entitled to.

I have plenty of reservations about Trump, but I always maintained his judicial picks would be much better than hers. lisab can pretend all she wants that she is happy Hillary lost, but you can bet Trump’s judicial picks will be her worst nightmare and the nomination of Betsy DeVos for Education also means none of lisab’s theories that you need to destroy the good public schools by mixing them with the bad ones will happen.

  465. jason says:

“he accuses me of saying the archives were hacked by Russians”

Show me where I said that.

No archives needed, just show me where I “accused you” of saying the archives were hacked by the Russians.

  466. jason says:

Let me make it easy for NYC, who won’t find anywhere where I accused him of saying the archives were hacked by the Russians.

What I said was, since he never owns up to his own words, was that he now had a great excuse he could use.

  467. jason says:

espite having over 60 Senators who DID NOT APPROVE of the deal.”

NYC finally admits it was not a treaty, which WOULD require Senate approval, but a deal, which did not.

Maybe his constitutional professor, Mark Levin, finally taught him something.

  468. Barrett says:

#494 – Agreed that Trumps judicial picks will be horrifying to LisaB.

We shouldn’t even be debating LisaB at this points. She hates Christians, she’s a utopian socialist (whatever the hell that is), she has little in common with anyone on this forum.

Still wrong but you can keep trying.

    The exact quote:

I said you had a great excuse, I didn’t say you would use it.

    Exactly.

I made what was supposed to be humor comment that since you did not own up to your own words, you now had a good excuse you could make, the Russians hacked the archives.

  488. DW says:

Just a few more excerpts from my forthcoming Election Night Coverage: A Chronological Atlas:

    8:02 pm
CBS suggests Trump campaign must be gravely concerned about what they see in FL.
Fox News and MSNBC projects Duckworth winner over Kirk in IL senate race.
Brian Williams on MSNBC says Missouri too close to call, “but with Clinton leading….” Then he corrects himself to say Trump is leading.

    8:03 pm
Brian Williams on MSNBC recounts the states still too early to call, ending with VA where he says it is “too early to call at this point, but a lead on Clinton’s part,” even though the data on the screen shows Trump with a lead of 127,000 votes with 25% reporting. Williams does not correct himself this time.

The media all had the narrative ready to go, but the stinking voters got in their way and kept tripping them up during their coverage.

  489. jason says:

  497. NYCmike says:

“Wes was the only one to predict Rauner would win in Il for 2014, and Tillis in NC.”

    -You sure about that.

I know I predicted Tillis would win, mainly due to Wes’s information, which, by the way, he disregarded for a brief, never-to-be-forgotten hour on election night.

I would have to look up in the archives about Rauner, but I thought most people were confident he would win, or at least that is my recollection.

  498. NYCmike says:

In regards to Rauner, if I remember correctly, I would credit Corey with the information leading to predict he would win.

  499. jason says:

Actually I was also bullish on Rauner.

Corey was sure he would lose because he bought into the fake nursing home “scandal” the Dems tried to tar him with.

    True dat, jason.

  509. jason says:

“but yes, a side effect will be school districts in the usa will remain segregated for another generation”

Actually, if Betsy DeVos gets her way, students who actually want to learn and excel will have the opportunity to go to good schools.

And of course the idea that you take good schools and “integrate” them so that they are now mediocre as way to improve bad schools is akin to Obamacare, which took healthcare that 85% of American were satisfied with and made it mediocre under the guise of improving health care for the other 15%.

There is a lot that can be done to improve bad schools, but the Democrats are not interested in any of them.

  510. Mr.Vito says:

    Stuart Stevens was awful.

I don’t recall any segment that was more cringeworthy than Richard Engel on NBC… other than Van Jones of course.

  511. jason says:

    Endless adulation for Hillary.

A tribute to Bill Clinton as a man who really respects women.

A segment on Obama, ah, the memories.

  512. DW says:

522, 532, I am still adding info, and have yet to put in all the best comments from PBS.

Thus far, I have completed the Atlas from input including Fox News, CNN, MSNBC, and ABC. So I have yet to do regular NBC, CBS, and then PBS.

I have two entries thus far for the biggest election night gaffe award.

The first was when Brian Williams cut away to interview Doris Kearns Goodwin, and nobody on her end told them they were live, and suddenly you can see a makeup artist with a brush trying to make headway with her face.

The second was a very confused Bill Kristol on ABC followed by an even more confused George Stephanopoulos and Jon Karl:

    11:44 pm
ABC projects Ron Johnson winner over Feingold in WI senate race. Panelist Bill Kristol, confused, seems to think this will lead to a 50/50 split in the senate where the vice-president would have the deciding vote.
    11:45 pm
Further confusion at ABC News as the hosts conflate the non-existent ‘Madison County’ with Dane County: George Stephanopoulos asks Jonathan Karl, their data analyst, “Let’s dig into Wisconsin a little bit more…what are you seeing out of Madison County in Wisconsin.” Karl: “Let’s take a look—Madison County we see 70…in Madison we see 71 percent of the vote’s in—obviously huge Clinton vote there, but uh, uh 29 percent still to go.” Stephanopoulos: “29% still to come. How about Dane County?” Karl: “Dane County. Right next door…uh wait…I don’t have Dane County at my…uh there it is Dane County, 71 percent in, and obviously it’s a big democratic county. So there still is…there still are…are a lot of outstanding Democratic votes potentially out there, but Trump [Stephanopoulos talks over top of Karl ending the exchange].”

You have to watch that exchange to really appreciate it. The same exact screen pops up showing Dane County both times and they didn’t realize it was the same.

  513. jason says:

Telemundo was horrendous. After it became clear that Trump had won, it was all about how everyone’s life was basically over and shattered and how could you protect yourself from Trump and how America was basically racist. Interviews with people who feared for their lives, their jobs, their children, their dogs.

I am still trying to see if I can get the Univision broadcast with Jorge Ramos, the meltdown should be good

  514. lisab says:

“Actually, if Betsy DeVos gets her way, students who actually want to learn and excel will have the opportunity to go to good schools.”

every student should have the opportunity to go to good schools

but so long as educational districts are limited to city boundaries, that won’t happen.

  515. Mr.Vito says:

The BBC coverage was pretty good… the calls were late as expected. They were relying on ABC. They kept trying to understand why the hell Trump hadn’t been named the winner yet.

  516. lisab says:

“, I am still adding info, and have yet to put in all the best comments from PBS.

Thus far, I have completed the Atlas from input including Fox News, CNN, MSNBC, and ABC. So I have yet to do regular NBC, CBS, and then PBS.”
    —————————————–

i was re-watching cnn just for laughs

after 11:00 pm cnn was still saying hillary would win

sometime between 11:00 and midnight they began to change their tune

  517. Mr.Vito says:

544 If that was what Telemundo was like, Univision must have been in total meltdown.

  518. lisab says:

cnn was spending a lot of time discussing district 2 maine, saying it may actually come down to a few electoral votes for hillary

  519. DW says:

546 – that’s the beauty of the chronological atlas I am assembling…it reveals who was getting it and who was in utter denial.

MSNBC was even later than CNN before they accepted reality. It wasn’t until Steve Karnacki showed how there was nothing left in WI and he saw no path for Clinton to recover there–you could hear audible gasps in the background and you could hear Chris Matthews exclaim “Jesus!”

MSNBC took Chris Matthews’ word for it that PA was safe for Clinton, and they had high hopes Detroit would come through to salvage MI. So when WI slipped away, they knew finally, that it was over.

  520. lisab says:

    thank the stars hillary lost,

had she won the rachel maddows of the world would have been insufferable

  521. Mr.Vito says:

On msnbc Steve schmidt at one point said the reds are redder and the blues were bluer. At that point Maddow quipped that counties weren’t flipping… of course they wereven but Kornacki hadn’t been concentrating on showing those on his maps.

The dark moment for msnbc came when Ron Johnsons race was called… WI hadn’t even been on their radar and they were still commenting on GA having not been called (which the entire night was BECAUSE the Atlanta area was slow as he’ll to report).

While this was going on Carville and Murphy had been discussing of camera with calculations how Clinton could still pull off Michigan and Penn and be back in it. Then they heard the Ron Jon call and Carville realized they had a big problem.

Soon thereafter… NC was called, FL was called, then Utah, then IA. Chris Matthews kept saying his Philly guys said they had the votes but you could see the look in his face like “my God how many more do they need… Trump is still gaining”

  522. Mr.Vito says:

Anyway… when Kornacki showed them in WI how much blue had turned red, everyone looked pale.

  523. Mr.Vito says:

Not sure how BECAUSE got capitalized in that…

  524. Mr.Vito says:

I rearly thought NBC was going to have to put Richard Engelike on suicide watch.

  525. Mr.Vito says:

*I really thought NBC was going to have to put Richard Engel on suicide watch.

  526. lisab says:

it was actually quite striking how much young people did not like hillary

the “elites” really thought they could railroad her through

  527. DW says:

    from the Atlas…note the times:

    1) People who got it:

    8:48 pm
Fox News hosts discuss the possibility that “the race could be turning right now” in Trump’s favor based on what they see in battleground state returns.

    9:05 pm
Chris Wallace on Fox News says he is now “open to the possibility Donald Trump could be the next president of the United States.”

    9:06 pm
Brit Hume on Fox News: “[Trump] is in this.”

9:11 pm Fox News reports that perhaps there was good reason for Clinton’s team canceling the victory fireworks.

    9:22 pm
ABC’s Republican strategist Alex Castellanos says FL is telling us something. Clinton doing well in the I-4 corridor means she will do well in CO; while Trump running it up in northern FL bodes well for his chances in MI.

    9:52 pm
Chris Wallace on Fox News raises the possibility that Trump would win the Electoral Vote while Clinton wins the popular vote.

    11:11 pm
Tucker Carlson at Fox News points out that the contempt Trump supporters have for government was not as strong as the contempt the government had for those voters.

    12:17 am
Chris Wallace on Fox News opines that President Obama’s legacy is at stake with Trump’s apparent victory—that he was really campaigning for himself while out stumping for Clinton.

    1:32 am
Chris Wallace on Fox News mentions speculation that Reince Preibus could be Trump’s Chief of Staff.

    2:27 am
Chris Matthews on MSNBC admits that one of his associates has been saying for days that Trump would win. Matthews then compares the Clinton campaign’s posture toward the election to the Titanic where God Himself cannot sink this ship. He said everyone agreed he would lose because of all of his mistakes. His repeated divisive speech meant no one would vote for him, but they did.

    2) The Clueless:

    9:13 pm
ABC analyst says the Clinton campaign thinks they have AZ ‘locked-in.’

    9:24 pm
Senator Clair McCaskill on Fox News still ‘confident’ Hillary Clinton will win the election.

    9:29 pm
Chris Matthews on MBSBC says if it was going to be a good night for Trump, then why is GA still not called?

    9:48 pm
Chris Matthews on MSNBC says Clinton is exceeding her targets in Philadelphia, and it looks like Democrats will sweep PA, and so the firewall is holding through machine politics (in Philadelphia) and the suburban advantage she has among women.

    9:58 pm
James Carville on MSNBC feels much better now about VA, and is encouraged about PA based on what Chris Matthews said.

    10:11 pm
ABC analyst says, “Fear is winning over love” in the election results.

    10:28 pm
Brian Williams on MSNBC says “No one counted the yard signs” as explanation for why Trump has out-performed tonight.

    10:51 pm
ABC’s Jonathan Karl described Trump’s chances in PA as a long shot, and he is losing there only by three points; in IA says Clinton is looking strong there tonight.

    10:57 pm
Rachel Maddow on MSNBC says we have no idea who is going to win the election.

    11:03 pm
MSNBC projects Johnson winner over Feingold in WI senate race. MSNBC Analysts moan audibly as Brian Williams makes the call. Williams then reminded viewers that Democrats were confident that Feingold would be going back to the senate, but Chris Matthews downplays the win, saying “Feingold would have been a big surprise—historically would have been the first person to beat the person who beat him.”

    11:05 pm
Trump projected winner in NC by NBC. As Brian Williams calls NC for Trump on MSNBC, Rachel Maddow says ‘Woah’ and Chris Matthews is heard in the background saying “well that’s a bitch.”

    11:23 pm
Rachel Maddow on MSNBC says Trump supporters are delusional.

    12:39 am
Rachel Maddow on MSNBC reminds viewers that Trump has not taken any deep blue states.

    12:42 am
Van Jones on CNN says the election result is a nightmare. He says you tell your kids not to be a bigot, so how do you tell the election result to your children? He says the election was a white-lash against a black president.

    12:43 am
Terry Moran on ABC says of Paul Ryan “Good luck” in regards to keeping his Speakership.

    1:49 am
Matthew Dowd on ABC says Trump is a Somali pirate.

  528. Charles says:

Obamacare survives, or a large part of it suvives.. only a bunch of deadenders with total control of the government can screw up the repeal of the most Marxist law ever. Now they will keep it.

    RIP USA

If so called conservatives with total govt control can’t put us on the right path, then this Republic is dead. It was a nice ride.

  529. Charles says:

And soon these “conservatives” will be passing a $1T spending package and highly protectionist policies. What the hell is going on. Oh yeah, some of us called this months ago….

  530. Mr.Vito says:

Matthew’s called out “OH NO!” When Johnsons race was called early. Maddow let out a guttural moan after Iowa was called.

  531. Mr.Vito says:

Not long after NC is called Nicole Wallace gets into it a little with Maddow over what is going on and what it means for Rs, where she finally says approximately

‘It is far more likely at this point that tomorrow morning we are talking about a Trump cabinet than a Clinton cabinet’

I dont know what time that was but Maddow says she doesnt dispute it.

  532. lisab says:

in fairness to the dem elites

the gop elites had 6 months to get used to trump beating their chosen candidates to a pulp, one by one

the dems went through the same denial, but in 6 hours

  533. DW says:

561 – it was just after 11 pm…from my Atlas:

    11:11 pm
Nicolle Wallace and Rachel Maddow on MSNBC bitterly argue about how Trump is winning a national election on an anti-government message while GOP incumbents in other races have survived. Wallace ends the exchange by saying that she did not vote for Trump, but it is far more likely that in the morning we will be talking about a Trump cabinet than a Clinton cabinet. Wallace says Paul Ryan will be thrown out. Maddow cannot understand why Ron Johnson wasn’t thrown out.

  534. Mr.Vito says:

Another interesting interesting moment… Matthews is talking about what might have been with Joe Biden and how he gets the white working class…

Brian Williams turns to Kornecki and asks if they carried Scranton, and Kornecki shows the Dems only winning the county by 3…

To which Matthews lets out a painful ‘auggh’ …
at that point Trump is up about 56000 in PA, 72000 in MI, and 85000 in WI.

  535. DW says:

562 – some shortened that timespan by sticking their heads in the sand and only started to open their minds to a Clinton defeat after 10:30 or 11:00.

Another funny part was the Clinton supporters at the Javits Center were getting regular updates up through about 9 pm, and then all the staffers disappeared and left them with no updates at all until Podesta walked out at 2:00 am.

All they had between that time was Wolf Blitzer who was whistling past the graveyard.

  536. DW says:

And speaking of Wolf, after his colleague told him that Clinton had called Trump to concede, he was incredulous because CNN hadn’t called it yet, so how could she have conceded?

  537. jason says:

My favorite Chris Matthews reaction was when NC was called…

    “that’s a bitch”

  538. jason says:

544 If that was what Telemundo was like, Univision must have been in total meltdown.”

I can’t find their coverage anywhere, except for a couple excerpts.

  539. jason says:

Charles woke up in hysterical mode.

  540. jason says:

All the networks said the same thing when it became evident Trump was going to win.

The Canadian Immigration site had crashed.

I wish I could have suggested that maybe the North Korea, Cuba and Venezuela sites were still up

  541. jason says:

I’m sorry, Charles went to bed in hysterical mode.

  542. Bitterlaw says:

Clemsonn won? That’s why I don’t bet on sports. No result is guaranteed.

  543. Wes says:

I actually bet Clemson would win, so I was happy with the results.
