Gillespie Leads GOP in VA, Trump Trails Dems in 2020

We have a new poll for the Virginia Republican primary race for Governor from The Washington Post and George Mason University Schar School that has Ed Gillespie still doubling his nearest opponent.

GOVERNOR – VIRGINIA – GOP PRIMARY (WaPo/Schar)
Ed Gillespie 38%
Corey Stewart 18%
Frank Wagner 15%

It is still disturbing that 18% of the Republican Party supports someone like Stewart, but on the bright side, he might actually finish in third place. This poll was done May 9-14 among likely primary voters. Meanwhile, Public Policy Polling is out with a new poll looking ahead to 2020 and it shows Donald Trump starts out trailing a slew of potential opponents.

PRESIDENT – NATIONAL (PPP)
Joe Biden (D) 54%
Donald Trump (R-inc) 40%

Cory Booker (D) 46%
Donald Trump (R-inc) 39%

Al Franken (D) 46%
Donald Trump (R-inc) 38%

Bernie Sanders (D) 52%
Donald Trump (R-inc) 39%

Elizabeth Warren (D) 49%
Donald Trump (R-inc) 39%

Dwyane The Rock Johnson (D) 42%
Donald Trump (R-inc) 37%

This poll was done May 12-14 among 692 registered voters.

    First!

Hillary is not President. Hillary is not President. Hillary is not President……

I just keep repeating it because Trump just makes it so difficult every day to support anything he does.

  2. Chicon says:

    Trump needs better firemen….

  3. Robbie says:

It’s time for everyone to embrace the suck. Things are likely to only get worse. Why? For starters, Trump isn’t going to change. Who we saw in the primary is who we saw in the general is who we now see as POTUS. There is no pivot. There are only pirouettes. And as much as I’d like to think a better, more experienced staff might help, it won’t because Trump isn’t going to change.

Every problem Trump has faced as POTUS has been a self inflicted wound. Regrettably, he’s shown little or no impulse control and his behavior, especially on Twitter, has appeared erratic at times. And making matters worse, he seems unwilling to listen to any criticism or accept any blame for the disastrous start to his presidency.

This is going to be a long, soul crushing four years filled with drama, drama, and more drama. He’s not going to resign, the cabinet is not going to invoke the 25th amendment, and Republicans in Congress aren’t going to throw Trump overboard. Why? The gonzos in conservative talk radio are going to stick with Trump no matter what so there’s ZERO incentive for elected officials to risk going out on a limb.

    F off, retard
    Get a new song.

    – Alright. Here’s the new theme song to the Trump White House.

  6. Trump says:

You have been singing the same tired niote for over two years.

It’s like you are a particularly retarded robot.

  7. janz says:

This is not a momunental poll, given all the twists, turns, and press mischaracterizations that have challenged the trump presidency since he won the general election.

  8. Paul says:

I wonder by what margin would an actual rock beat Trump.

  9. Waingro says:

I think the Rock is a registered Republican and is fairly moderate. No way he would survive the Soviet primaries. Wishful thinking on PPP’s part.

Although he would be the only Dem I would even consider voting for from that crew.

  10. NYCmike says:

MD’s bombast compared to Robbie’s SOS would be much preferred.

MD’s bombast compared to Robbie’s SOS would be much preferred.

    – Both are preferable to your Tea Party puffery and Trump enabling though.

  12. SanDiegoCitizen says:

There have always been bias and accuracy issues involving PPP polls, so do not take them too seriously. However, Trump is definitely in a slump, as the trend even in the Rasmussen and other polls is also down for him.

As I said before, Trump came across as a jerk in the firing of Comey. It allowed the whole Russian conspiracy nonsense to resurface, and has him looking like an arbitrary tyrant.

Likewise on the repeal of Obamacare, he needed to act in a lot more deliberate manner — such as setting up a task force of those involved in insurance and medical professionals. Let them make the recommendations for reforming it. Instead it looked like some political deal rushed through the House of Representatives, which the Senate then proclaimed was dead on arrival.

Trump can bounce back, he has a strong economy, has limited illegal immigration, and is moving forward on a strong defense and foreign policy. Plus he has a record of bouncing back; how many times did we proclaim him politically dead in the last two years on this board. But he as to learn not to go rogue, he is no longer the corporate executive who can clean house at will for the betterment of a business, now he has to weave his way through the political nonsense.

  13. Waingro says:

Kimberly Guilfoyle in talks to take over as POTUS press secretary? Hope she knows what she’s in for.

  14. NYCmike says:

“– Both are preferable to your Tea Party puffery and Trump enabling though.”

“puffery” = seeking a balanced budget, as opposed to continuing the status quo
“enabling” = waiting for all of the evidence before casting judgment

  15. NYCmike says:

“I wonder by what margin would an actual rock beat Trump.”

-Actually, Trump is pretty flighty, like paper, and paper covers rock, so Trump wins AGAIN!

  16. NYCmike says:

    Enabler! Enabler!

    ALL is DOOMED!

  17. Trump says:

All is doomed for tha Jeb cocsucker for sure.

  18. Chicon says:

#3 – lol. Post of the year candidate!

  19. Chicon says:

Curious if Robbie can get just as exorcised about the story of the DNC kid leaking the Hillary emails to WikiLeaks and then being murdered. Can he redirect the anger outward?

  20. Chicon says:

13 – she’d have to be crazy to take that job under Trump.

  21. Wes says:

Pat Tiberi has declined to enter the race against Sherrod Brown. Mandel gets a free ride to the nomination.

Mandel had better run a better camapign than in 2012. Not every Republican seeking a coveted Senate seat gets a free ride to the nomination.

  22. Chicon says:

21 – the depth of your political knowledge is impressive, Wes. Good info.

  23. lisab says:

    the thing is

everyone who hated trump before — like robbie — still hates him

and the same people who wanted hillary to win are still attacking him and are still going to attack him during the next election cycle

the people who supported trump, will still support him, although things are going slower and less extreme than they would like

and the people who would rather have trump than hillary will still rather have trump than warren

plus … the reps ARE in fact taking over on the state level and at the judicial level, albeit slowly, under trump

so it will be more difficult for the dems to play games with the voting next time around, especially with less illegal aliens around.

soooooooo … despite robbie’s constant whining, the only real thing that has changed is scotus is conservative and the oil pipeline went through

  24. lisab says:

so far the big story under trump is that

the judicial branch is slowly going right … trump is in the process of nominating 200 judges

    and

at the state level, republican governors are doing the same thing

although this is a slow process, it is happening.

as an example, i had to get my license renewed in NY, and when i put my name down as

Marguerite Juana Inés de la Cruz

the clerk looked at me like i was lying!

you could tell she wanted to ask for id

  25. lisab says:

also, it should be pointed out that had

robbie, the nytimes, wapo, msnbc, cnn etc. attacked obama and/or hillary with the same ferocity on rather major scandals

like benghazi, fast and furious, the irs scandal, if you like your doctor you can keep your doctor, open borders, nsa spying, bergdahl, the iran nuclear deal, the nk nuclear deal, the giving russia 20% of our uranium deal, the va, and wikileaks etc.

we might actually not laugh at them when they breathlessly report on how many scoops of ice cream trump gets compared to his guests

  26. lisab says:

although we’d still laugh at robbie because he “supported” jeb

  27. Robbie says:

    Chicon says:
    May 16, 2017 at 2:21 pm
Curious if Robbie can get just as exorcised about the story of the DNC kid leaking the Hillary emails to WikiLeaks and then being murdered. Can he redirect the anger outward?

    – That story is dubious at best. The family said they had nothing to do with the investigator. He was hired by a third party.

    John Podhoretz?
    @jpodhoretz

So the detective on the Rich case was a cop 22 years ago before DC police dept fired him. Think how hard it is to get fired by the DC 5-0.

To drag this murdered kid’s family through the mud with the wild claims is no better than Comet Pizza story from last Fall.

So yeah, I am exorcised by the story because it is not fair at all to the family.

  28. Robbie says:

“What about Hillary’s emails” is not an effective comeback to mess Trump has created for himself. But do as you must.

  29. Bitterlaw says:

    Trump sucks. Hillary sucks more.

    Both can be true.

  30. lisab says:

hillary sent top secret info through an unsecured channel, something for which you cann go to prison

trump had two scoops of ice cream

    robbie is appalled

  31. Robbie says:

Pat Tiberi was probably never going to run for Senate in Ohio, but it can also be read as a sign the race is not a fight worth having. To think Mandel, after the race he ran in 2012, is going to be given an open lane to the nomination is really something. That’s especially true considering how many top flight Republicans there are in the state.

Just like Cory Gardner though in 2014, if the environment for Republicans improves, Tiberi can always reconsider his decision and enter the race in early 2018.

  32. Robbie says:

    Bitterlaw says:
    May 16, 2017 at 4:10 pm
    Trump sucks. Hillary sucks more.
    Both can be true.

    – Yes. And it can also be true the leaks against Trump are outrageous and Trump appears to be in over his head.

  33. lisab says:

    objectively speaking,

trump has appointed a scotus judge

and is in the nomination process for roughly 120+ federal judges

    and

about another 250+ senior federal positions that cannot easily be undone by the next president, not to mention about 150 military appointments of general rank or equivalent

while msnbc is busy mocking trump, he is steering the infrastructure of government rightward

now that would be a legitimate story

  34. Phil says:

Lisa does bring up valid facts about the direction of the government. Doesn’t seem that way with the way the media is carrying on but what she says is absolutely valid. Something to keep in mind.

  35. Cash Cow TM says:

I believe if you check the archives,
it was Cash Cow and Walt who–right after the election–predicted a very rocky 4 years of turmoil.

  36. Chicon says:

27 – think again. The Fox story was corroborated by a current federal investigator. Wheeler not the only source.

    http://www.foxnews.com/politics

The investigator has seen the emails.

  37. lisab says:

and keep in mind it is not just trump’s appointments

    the gop has 31 governors!

    each are making appointments.

what is happening is the the solid blue states are going DEEP DEEP BLUE, which will make the dem candidates for president DEEP DEEP BLUE out of necessity. it is very unlikely a dem presidential candidate like clinton or gore will rise through the primaries. both were actually seen as somewhat centrist back in the day.

the republicans have a few deep red states, and a lot of light red states.

it is far more likely a centrist or moderate will come out of the republcan nomination than out of the democrat nomination.

    trump vs. pocahontas?

it is very difficult seeing people voting for someone who lied about her ethnicity to get her position

  38. Cash Cow TM says:

    We need a poll:

Do you think Puerto Rico should be admitted as the 51st state in the U.S?

    Cash Cow says no.

  39. lisab says:

Do you think Puerto Rico should be admitted as the 51st state in the U.S?
    ———————————

    no, give it independence

  40. Chicon says:

Robbie goes over Fox story with the fine tooth comb (although he clearly didn’t read it), believes Maggie implicitly. Shocked, I am. SHOCKED.

  41. Cash Cow TM says:

    We need another poll.

In Iran Tehran’s conservative mayor, Qalibaf, dropped out of the race for president of Iran. How does this change the odds of current moderate Iranian President Rouhani winning reelection.

Every Iranian president since 1981 has thus far won reelection.

Qalibaf threw his support to hard-liner Raisi.

I am sure PPP MUST have a poll of this one…
    ____________________________________________
Also, is anyone in Iran really a moderate?

  42. Chicon says:

    I’m with Lisab….on this issue.

  43. Cash Cow TM says:

    lisab,

If you give PR independence, Cuba will conquer it.
Or maybe Botswana or Lichtenstein, or the MS 13 gang in Chicago.

  44. Cash Cow TM says:

If you give PR independence, everyone would go to the capital city to celebrate, and it would cause the island to tip over.

  45. Cash Cow TM says:

So Pence would be back in the U.S….

  46. lisab says:

If you give PR independence, Cuba will conquer it.
    ————————————————-

if you made pr a state, you would need to offset it with a new red state to keep the senate balanced

the dems will never let you split CA, NY or IL into metro vs. rural areas so that means you would have to carve up texas

    that won’t happen

    sooooooooo … stalemate

  47. lisab says:

We survived putting up with Obama sucking for 8 years, We might be able to survive 4 more years with DJT as POTUS.

in rural ny, where i live

people STILL have TRUMP signs on their HOUSES!

not just bumper stickers on their cars mind you, they have signs affixed to their houses!

they just don’t want hillary or establishment reps like bush

Robbie goes over Fox story with the fine tooth comb (although he clearly didn’t read it), believes Maggie implicitly. Shocked, I am. SHOCKED.

    – Your effort to defend Trump by throwing up smoke screens is admirable, but buying into this stupid conspiracy about Seth Rich is just dumb and really not fair to him or his family who has to endure their son’s memory be used as a pawn.

It’s more than fair to note the press is ABSOLUTELY out to get Trump. It’s also more than fair to note Trump is careening from self-inflicted crisis self-inflicted to crisis.

  53. SanDiegoCitizen says:

    46. There is already a succession movement in Eastern California, and part of southern Oregon as well. There is your new red state.

Am not aware of any credible military in Cuba, doubt they could conquer much. If there troops landed on Puerto Rico, my hunch is a substantial number of them would immediately defect.

  54. Robbie says:

    Chicon

Hillary Clinton lost the presidential election. I don’t give a crap about who leaked John Podesta’s emails to WikiLeaks.

It’s 2017, not 2016. The election is over. Move on and worry about the way Trump is running the executive branch.

  55. Chicon says:

Genius, the Seth Rich story is about the DNC, Hillary, WikiLeaks.

Read the article – it is clear you haven’t.

  56. Wes says:

If I were Republicans, I would make a deal with Democrats:

DC could become a state if Western CA and OR could break off to form a new state.

Puerto Ricans don’t need a new state. The status quo is fine there.

  57. Cash Cow TM says:

How is it possible that the same person is listed as candidate for judge in PA on the D ballot and also on the R ballot?

Is this Iran or Soviet Roosha?

Genius, the Seth Rich story is about the DNC, Hillary, WikiLeaks.
Read the article – it is clear you haven’t.

    – I DON’T FRICKING CARE ABOUT THIS STUPID STORY.

  59. Wes says:

Apparently for some offices, Walt, PA allows multiparty candidacies. As I recall, before JulStol was known as a man interested in underage women, he ran as both a Democrat and a Republican simultaneously for school board.

  60. Chicon says:

54 – lol. If it is shown that Wiki’s source for the Hillary emails was not Russia, how is that not a current story?

Have you noticed that there’s a few CURRENT investigations about Russia and the 2016 election.

    Looking trollish today….

  61. Cash Cow TM says:

The D guy running for governor of VA (is it Northrup?) has cut ads where he says voting for him will keep the DJT bigotry and nonsense out of VA.

    I have seen the ads.

  62. Wes says:

    Hey, I know!

Rather than fight over Robbie’s story, let’s discuss ABORTION.

  63. Chicon says:

Yep, much more concerned and worried about what Maggie thinks of Trump. Revealing….

  64. Wes says:

It’s Northam, Walt. He’s the current LG of the Commonwealth, having defeated loony pastor E. W. Jackson when Ken Cuccinelli hijacked the VAGOP in 2013.

  65. Cash Cow TM says:

“– I DON’T FRICKING CARE ABOUT THIS STUPID STORY.”

    Heh.

That is what Walt used to say about all those early “Watergate” stories…
    _____________________________
    He learned his lesson…

  66. Wes says:

Having survived both Caligula and the French Revolution, Walt, how could you discount Watergate?

  67. Cash Cow TM says:

Some kid in the D.C. area O.D.ed on caffeine super drinks and died.

    Sad.

No reports yet on whether the boy knew Seth Rich…

  68. Chicon says:

Robbie doesn’t care about the story, yet he took the time to share with the class a factually incorrect refutation of the story.

  69. Cash Cow TM says:

Two of Walt’s heroes, Richard Nixon and WV Gov. Arch Moore, crashed and burned.

They went from heroes to zeroes.

Since then, Ronald Reagan was the only R guy Walt really hung his hat on.

  70. Robbie says:

    Chicon says:
    May 16, 2017 at 5:27 pm
Yep, much more concerned and worried about what Maggie thinks of Trump. Revealing….

    – Yes, I am much more concerned about the actual president of the United States rather than the person who lost the race and is now out politics.

  71. Cash Cow TM says:

Walt said to tell you that Caligula was a pu$$y.

  72. Cash Cow TM says:

Who has Seth Rich’s laptop, and why?

Has anyone filed a FOIA about it?

  73. Wes says:

    Interesting factoid about Arch Moore:

He lived just long enough to see his daughter in the Senate. Shelley Moore Capito became a Senator on 1-3-15. She had to wait till the following Monday for her official inauguration though. Arch Moore died the day after the inauguration. He must have been the happiest man in the world on his deathbed, knowing his daughter had achieved the office thst had once narrowly eluded him.

  74. Chicon says:

Cow – apparently it resides with the fbi.

  75. Chicon says:

73 – Robbie is working on the FOIA request now.

  76. Robbie says:

At this point, we’re getting a bonkers story that causes a media firestorm every 24 hours or so.

I’m not going to take any position on the NYT story about Trump asking Comey to end the Flynn investigation, but it’s a wow if true.

  77. Paul says:

We’ll see how much Comey spills before he succumbs to radiation poisoning.

  78. NYCmike says:

-Picture Robbie, MD, Author, and “CG” wearing these….as they go to a #NeverTrump rally

  79. Robbie says:

    That’s all you got NYCMike?

  80. Wes says:

To be fair, Robbie, Mike also has a fetish for any conservative or Republican who can ensure a Democrat can win.

  81. Chicon says:

So we are to believe that Trump is stupid enough to ask Comey to give Flynn a pass, while planning to fire him? Trump does dumb stuff, but this would be…. I don’t buy it.

  82. Chicon says:

78 – he’s safe unless he dishes on a Clinton.

  83. Robbie says:

Whatever the case is with this new story, I don’t see how the current state of affairs is sustainable.

  84. Chicon says:

    84 – I’m surprised….

  85. lisab says:

“There is already a succession movement in Eastern California, and part of southern Oregon”

the california dems have ZERO reason to allow that

and every reason to have you help pay for low income housing in san francisco

just think how bad the electoral college would look for the dems if california peeled off some red counties.

the ideal is about a 55% to 45% split in the state for your party, a nice 10% cushion to hold off a strong candidate by the opposition party while still getting all the electoral votes

if california split it would go from 60% to 30% to about 70% to 10% with less electoral votes (the other % divided among 3rd parties)

there is just no way the dems would agree

  86. Robbie says:

Karen Handel must be happy right about now.

  87. lisab says:

i was at a very blue website the other day

one of the posters was saying that if trump is impeached the runner up would be president!

  88. SanDiegoCitizen says:

    86. You were talking about the need for a red state if Puerto Rico was admitted; Eastern California could be the trade-off.

  89. Chicon says:

87 – yeah, who woulda thought that Trump would be….Trump?

  90. SanDiegoCitizen says:

    79. “Picture Robbie, MD, Author, and “CG” wearing these….as they go to a #NeverTrump rally”

    https://pjmedia.com/lifestyle/2017/05/15/will-romphims-catch-on-this-summer-you-decide/

Actually that looks like Trumpwear. Typical dress at Mar-a-Lago. One of those guys is about to be named FBI director.

  91. lisab says:

“. You were talking about the need for a red state if Puerto Rico was admitted; Eastern California could be the trade-off”
    —————————-

i agree it would be nice for the reps in california,

but strategically the dems would end up with two incredibly deep blue states and the reps would end up with a light red state

which is a much better deal for the reps, so why would the california dems go for it?

they would just have more “wasted votes” at the presidential level

  92. lisab says:

maybe they would let you split amarillo and northern texas into a red state

even then, i am not sure the dems would be able to win texas.

  93. Chicon says:

Robbie – can you ask your pals in the MSM to inquire as to why Comey didn’t do one of the following on the day he talked to Trump – tell the AG’s office, tell his 2nd in command, tell the appropriate congressional committee, tell the public, or resign. Seems a bit fishy that the memo only comes out when he’s been fired.

  94. Phil says:

It is 5:30 – time for another hit job on Trump released by the NYT or the MSM outlet of the day…….and right on cue.

Expect this pattern to continue on a daily basis until they get him. Right now just a steady drip….drip…drip

  95. Cash Cow TM says:

But what about the Iranian election?

Do we want the hard line conservative, or the moderate?

  97. Phil says:

    Corey’s memo – Comey’s word vs Trump’s.

Nice to get rid of a Wiesel like Comey, but of course he now has every incentive to turn around and kick you in the nuts. It is now happening.

  98. Phil says:

    Corey’s memo that is.

  99. Cash Cow TM says:

What would the outcome of the POTUS election be if the ECV were distributed by whoever won each CD and whoever won each state gets 2 votes?

    Prolly still Trump.

  100. Phil says:

It would be nice if the MSM would pull back on the Trump hate fest for a day or two. My head hurts. Not going to happen of course.

Under the law, Comey is required to immediately inform the Department of Justice of any attempt to obstruct justice by any person, even the President of the United States. Failure to do so would result in criminal charges against Comey. (18 USC 4 and 28 USC 1361) He would also, upon sufficient proof, lose his license to practice law.

    Yup, comedy broke the law.

  214. Cash Cow TM says:

I believe tina rather the Wobbie.

She has a nice set of sources.

  215. Tina says:

Here is what we do know.

So, if Comey believed Trump attempted to obstruct justice, did he comply with the law by reporting it to the DOJ? If not, it calls into question whether the events occurred as the Times reported it.

Obstruction requires what’s called “specific intent” to interfere with a criminal case. If Comey concluded, however, that Trump’s language was vague, ambiguous or elliptical, then he has no duty under the law to report it because it does not rise to the level of specific intent. Thus, no crime.

There is no evidence Comey ever alerted officials at the Justice Department, as he is duty-bound to do. Surely if he had, that incriminating information would have made its way to the public either by an indictment or, more likely, an investigation that could hardly be kept confidential in the intervening months.

Comey’s memo is being treated as a “smoking gun” only because the media and Democrats, likely prompted by Comey himself, are now peddling it that way.

Comey will soon testify before Congress about this and other matters. His memo will likely be produced pursuant to a subpoena. The words and the context will matter.

But by writing a memo, Comey has put himself in a box. If he now accuses the President of obstruction, he places himself in legal jeopardy for failing to promptly and properly report it. If he says it was merely an uncomfortable conversation, he clears the president of wrongdoing and sullies his own image as a guy who attempted to smear the man who fired him.

Either way, James Comey comes out a loser. No matter. The media will hail him a hero.

After all, he gave them a good story that was better than the truth.

Gregg Jarrett is a Fox News Anchor and former defense attorney.

Flynn — national security adviser to then-President-elect Trump — but has not found any evidence of wrongdoing or illicit ties to the Russian government, U.S. officials said.

  227. Tina says:

Although Flynn’s contacts with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak were listened to, Flynn himself is not the active target of an investigation, U.S. officials said. The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday that U.S. counterintelligence agents had investigated the communications between Flynn and Kislyak.

    Interesting posts, Tina.

In reading comments following a powerline piece, I am posting one with a succinct list of sll the recent MSM misfirings of accurate news:

    “Dan Hossley · Portland, Oregon

Last week we were told that Comey was fired because he requested more money to expand the investigation, except he didn’t. Then we were told that Asst. AG in charge of the investigation threatened to resign because of Trump, except that he didn’t. This week, we were told that Trump disclosed classified information to the Russians putting our sources at risk, except the people in the room flatly deny this. Weirdly, the NYT’s then releases the source of the information, thereby actually putting our sources at risk thus proving once again that journalists seem to think it is ok when they break the law. Now, we are told that a memo exists that alleges that Trump attempted to obstruct the Russian investigation (which is not a criminal investigation, but a counter intelligence investigation so it is hard to get to obstruction of justice), except the NYT’s hasn’t actually seen the memo. Maybe the memo exists, or maybe they are making it up. It wouldn’t be the first time in the last two weeks, it would be the fourth time.”

  240. Trump says:

The only factual news is that Trump fired Comey.

    Everything else is fake.

  241. Paul says:

    Trump and Tina are fake.

  242. Trump says:

Still not one fact of evidence. Washington Post dreamed up fake news. Just like Dan Rather typing 1970 documents in Word font. On September 8, 2004, Dan Rather cited “exclusive information, including documents” to justify major CBS Evening News and 60 Minutes stories alleging that George W. Bush shirked his duties when he was in the Texas Air National Guard in the 1960s and 1970s. Within a few hours of those documents being posted on CBS News’s Web site, however, typography experts voiced skepticism that the documents had actually originated with their alleged author and Bush’s former commanding officer, the late Lt. Colonel Jerry Killian. As the evidence mount, Rather stubbornly clung to the idea that his story was bulletproof, and he derided critics as partisans and Internet rumormongers.

The forged documents were debunked by a blogger Charles F. Johnson, whose work would likely be quickly dismissed as “fake news” by CBS today.

He pointed out the font used in the document did not exist at the time and was, in fact, part of Microsoft Word.

The scandal was so outrageous, four CBS employees were axed from the “news” network.

Also am not impressed Comey wrote himself a secret memo. Comey has been bouncing off the wall for the last year; Trump was right referring to him as a “showboat.”

What exactly does “bad way” mean?

    – It means he has no political capital right now to govern or push his agenda.

  273. Robbie says:

    Wes

You raised the idea these scandals may have had a counterintuitive effect on Trump. Well, anything’s possible, but the data right now doesn’t show that.

In the RCP average, Trump’s approval rating was 43.6 on May 3. After the recent barrage of negative stories, Trump’s approval rating has dipped as low as 40.2 this morning. Even Rasmussen now has Trump at just 43%.

Maybe there will be a boomerang effect on these scandal, but so far Trump’s approval rating has dipped 3.4% in two weeks. It’s hardly a crash, but he was already starting at relatively low mark.

Given Trump’s solid base of support, he may not drop much further in the polling averages, but it doesn’t seem to be having a reverse effect.

  274. NYCmike says:

“– It means he has no political capital right now to govern or push his agenda.”

I bet you Trump’s approval rating is lower next Wednesday than it is today as the immense amount of news we’ve had has been absorbed by the public.

How much lower? Probably not a whole lot. That doesn’t mean this is a “6 hour window”.

That said, the only reason the wacko left has gotten so much mileage out of the idea Trump must go is Trump has given them a plenty of ammo to use.

Mike Pence is a skilled politician. Sure, he’s made some mistakes, but he’d never commit the kind of unforced errors Trump has. Just as Ford initially got a grace period, Pence would get a honeymoon period that Trump never got.

Again, Trump will never resign. Even if he realizes it’s the proper thing to do, my guess is he’d rather drag the party down with him. He is governed by slights and spite.

    332. “Again, Trump will never resign. Even if he realizes it’s the proper thing to do, my guess is he’d rather drag the party down with him. He is governed by slights and spite.”

Agree to an extend, but Trump is pretty thin skinned and might react arbitrarily and decide to resign. Also, the Republicans could make it clear to him that he needs to step down in the interest of the nation. Its unlikely, but could happen.

  325. Phil says:

Ok, we are about an hour and a half from the daily 5:00 Washington Post – NYT bombshell anti- trump story release. Five is perfect. Time for it to get on and dominate the 5:30 network newscasts without giving the Trump administration enough time to bring any pushback on the same news shows.

Wonder what they have lined up for today’s installment?

  326. Phil says:

Supposedly Democrats have polling in the field on impeachment. They want to make sure they don’t move too fast yet on impeachment talk. They’ll move. However, with Democrats it is always a question on the political timing.

    – This is a good point. He is mercurial.

Also, the Republicans could make it clear to him that he needs to step down in the interest of the nation. Its unlikely, but could happen.

    – I could see this, but only after Democrats sweep into power in the House in 2018 and then schedule an impeachment vote that could get a large number of Republicans.

  328. Wes says:

If Republicans lose the House next year and perceive Trump to be responsible, they’ll consider the Trump experiment a failure and support impeachmrnt if not conviction. The Trumpkins won’t have any power in the party after yhat because all other Republicans will unite against them just as mainline Republicans united against the Tea Party Desdenders in 2014.

  329. Phil says:

    Agree completely, Wes.

  330. NYCmike says:

“If Republicans lose the House next year and perceive Trump to be responsible, they’ll consider the Trump experiment a failure and support impeachmrnt if not conviction.”

-For what crime will he be impeached and convicted?

  331. Phil says:

    Something will be invented.

  332. NYCmike says:

“Something will be invented.” – and Republicans will go along with that?

  333. Robbie says:

I’m not about to make any predictions on an election that’s still 18 months away, but I will say this. I think Trump really only has a short period to right the ship before inertia becomes too much to overcome.

For instance, if we’re still dealing with Trump firestorms around Labor Day, I’m not sure much could be done over the next year to change perceptions about him that are already forming and hardening right now.

  334. Robbie says:

“If Republicans lose the House next year and perceive Trump to be responsible, they’ll consider the Trump experiment a failure and support impeachmrnt if not conviction.”
-For what crime will he be impeached and convicted?

    – Impeachment is a political process. Johnson was impeached and nearly removed over appointments if I remember correctly.

  335. pitchaboy says:

For reluctant Trump voters like me, we are low on confidence with this administration. Rience has to go as he is unable to control DJT and set an agenda. If they cannot get health care and tax reform taken care of, impeachment will look like euthanasia to DJT. He will be burnt toast.

  336. pitchaboy says:

It is becoming increasingly clear that Republicans cannot govern.

  337. Phil says:

The Republicans will go along with that?

Have you not seen example after example of the lack of fight from Republicans over the years? Backbone has always been in very short supply on our side. Republicans will fold.

  338. Phil says:

Besides, establishment Republicans cannot stand Trump. Yeah enough of those types will go along.

  339. Robbie says:

    Phil

Is going to the mat for Trump really worth it right now? When surrogates have gone out to defend Trump, within a day or so Trump himself has undercut the defense surrogates were offering. Why allow themselves to get hung out to dry?

I don’t see this as Republicans being weak so much as Republicans not trying to get swept up in a bad Trump story.

  340. pitchaboy says:

The problem is not the establishment Rs. It is a man who cannot keep his mouth shut. In an atmosphere where nobody likes you and everybody wants to make sure political neophytes like you do not ever make it this big, keep your mouth shut and do what you were elected to do: immigration, tax and health care reform. There were many true outrages with the Obama administration that NYT and WP ignored and now they publish things without verifying and which are proving to be untrue. Dont give them fodder.

  341. Jonesy says:

    351. Spoken by the man who said HRC would get 400 electoral votes. Nice Work Robbie

    351. Spoken by the man who said HRC would get 400 electoral votes. Nice Work Robbie

    – What screen name did you use before this one?

  343. Phil says:

I think it is some of both.

Republicans are always less combative than Democrats in defending their agenda or one of their administrations. Been that way for years.

Democrats are devoted to their ideology and agenda one hundred percent of their time, Republicans? Many are too afraid of the MSM. Terrified in fact.

However, I am not really talking about the ones who remain silent. I am talking about the MCCain’s who can’t help but go out and give verbal help to the Democrats. McCain has been doing it for years. Long before Trump ever came on the scene.

  344. Jonesy says:

    354. answer the question Robbie. Did you predict a Clinton landslide?

  345. Jonesy says:

McCain almost switched parties in 2001, due to Bush hatred , Phil. A war monger and senile old man

  346. Jonesy says:

I wish everyone could take a deep and remember how this board went into hysterics after P##ygate, electoral college recount, debates etc…

  347. Bitterlaw (Trump sucks but Hillary would be worse) says:

It is becoming increasingly clear that Republicans cannot govern

Zzzzzz. Trump is not really a Republican. If he resigned or was impeached, we get Pence. I’m fine with that.

  348. Jonesy says:

Wes, I more of a reader of the board, and not a poster. Your info is terrific and enjoy it. HHR is lucky to have you.

    1. I hope Senator Thillis is ok

    2. No way I could see 20 GOP Senators voting for Impeachment, and Manchin too.

  349. Jonesy says:

    359. Bitterlaw, so Pence would be a easy transition huh. Tell that to Gerald Ford.

LGBT community hates Pence, Hollywood would go ape over him

  350. Bitterlaw (Trump sucks but Hillary would be worse) says:

Pitch – The girl I was advising chose Temple over Mass College of Ph and Health Sciences. Temple was 1/3 the cost and she has to pay for it herself.

  351. pitchaboy says:

DJT has surrounded himself with too many Dems in the WH and is wondering why the place is leaking like a bad aortic valve. Fire the Drats and start with your s-i-l.

  352. Bitterlaw (Trump sucks but Hillary would be worse) says:

Jonesy – I know many Republicans who sat out 2016 who would happily vote for Pence in 2020.

  353. pitchaboy says:

Everything about Temple and health sciences is good; the only downside is it exists in a stinky location.

  354. Phil says:

    357

As well as one who has an obsessional need to do or say anything to get the approval of the MSM. It drives him.

I don’t care what he did in the service forty years ago. I cannot stand the man.

  355. Waingro says:

The calculus for the GOP when it comes to impeaching/removing Trump down the line is what the backlash electorally will be among Trump’s rabid, hardcore base of fans.

I agree with Wes that losing the House in 2018 might make that decision a little easier to swallow. But the long term backlash in the next few elections thereafter could be deadly.

I could easily many righty hardcore Trump fans like Tina completely turning their backs on GOP at the polling booths.

    Let’s just hope it doesn’t come to this. It’s a lose-lose situation.

    354. answer the question Robbie. Did you predict a Clinton landslide?

    – Sure. I did. I don’t know if I predicted 400 EV’s, but I thought she’d get 370 or so. I’ve never shied away from being wrong about 2016.

One thing I’ve never done though is hide behind multiple screen name so who are you?

  357. Jonesy says:

    363. Well said Pitch. Dina Powell has to go

  358. Jonesy says:

Robbie, too many intelligent posters here for me to waste my time arguing. Nothing personal. I just do not converse with those who quote the mainstream media.

Wikileaks exposed them as DNC collabrators, but you still quote them. Why?

  359. Jonesy says:

    367. Waingro. Well said. GOP would go down the road of the elections of 1974 and 1976. Pence would lose badly in 2020, not of his own fault.

Trump base would stay home, and would we lose the midwest again

  360. Waingro says:

#371, and waive bye bye to filibuster for legislation and hello to single payer etc. Disaster all around.

  361. Jonesy says:

    372. Exactly. Pence would be a unelected POTUS like Ford.

This so different from Nixon. Dems had huge majorities in Congress during Watergate.

  362. Jonesy says:

Robbie, I work for your buddies at Deepstate. I have over 500 screen names just for HHR. LOL

  363. Bitterlaw (Trump sucks but Hillary would be worse) says:

Pence would have been elected VP. Not like Ford at all.

  364. Robbie says:

The Justice Department has appointed a special prosecutor and it is former FBI head Robert Mueller.

Also, the WaPo has a story saying Kevin McCarthy said last year he thought Putin paid Trump.

  365. Pitchaboy says:

  368. Pitchaboy says:

Robbie is in dire need of a phenothiazine.

  369. Robbie says:

Rod Rosenstein gave the White House a 30 minute warning he was going to name a special prosecutor.

  370. Jonesy says:

    Robbie, loves his MSM, Pitch.

I heard the GOP saying President Pence after Pu::ygate, and how Trump would be forced off the ticket.

Robbie is using those same sources.

Obama’s national security team had decided to ask for Trump’s sign-off, since the plan would all but certainly be executed after Trump had become president.

“I know this sounds silly but this controversy may help Trump. I predict his approval ratings will go up”

i think this is very true …

the dems have WAY WAY WAY overplayed their hand and are in dangerous territory.

if the dems tried to go through an impeachment process

    with republican help

    there would likely be riots.

you think ferguson was bad? wait until millions of uneducated, gun toting, bible thumping trump supporters see the establishment take down their candidate.

the real illuminating part of all this is that the republicans

    HAVE THE HOUSE
    HAVE THE SENATE
    HAVE THE SCOTUS
    HAVE THE STATE HOUSES
    HAVE THE WHITE HOUSE

    AND

IT TURNS OUT THEY LIKE HIGH TAXES, HUGE BUDGET DEFICITS, OBAMACARE and OPEN BORDERS!!!!!!

you guys who are all upset at trump should really just embrace your inner socialist

because that is really what your party leaders represent now

  497. lisab says:

also, you should give up any hope of replacing trump with pence or any other establishment republican, for two reasons

a.) the dems will not stop. if you let them take down trump, they will take down pence, and whoever else follows. when a toddler has a tantrum in a store over a toy, you don’t give in and buy the toddler a toy — because they WILL do it again. instead you leave the store and don’t in any way reward them — you might even punish them, though i would not usually support that.

basically the dems need a time out

b.) the trump supporters will NEVER support your establishment candidates if you turn on him. imagine you finally got the high taxes, open borders, obamacare loving, big government republican president that you always wanted — like jeb — and then the conservative republicans allowed the dems to impeach him. you would be upset.

the republican party will lose HUGE in 2018/2020 if you don’t rally around your president

even if you don’t like him.

the dems learned that lesson with bill clinton, you have to stick with your guy.

  498. Paul says:

The uneducated, gun toting Trump supporters can riot for all I care. If they have so little love for our country, they can leave and not let the door hit them in the ass.

  499. lisab says:

well the way they see it the democratically voted for their guy and won

and you are so undemocratic that you would rather take out the president then wait the four years and have an election

so they think you are the one who has no love for the country … at least the one with democracy where people get to vote and anyone can become president

  500. Tina says:

    Its muh russian.

  503. lisab says:

yeah, you should only accept elections when your candidate wins

    that will work

  504. Paul says:

A coup by Pence (25th amendment) would be much preferable to impeachment.

  505. Paul says:

    Pence would calm the Bible-thumpers.

I look forward to this matter concluding quickly. In the meantime, I will never stop fighting for the people and the issues that matter most to the future of our country.”

  507. SanDiegoCitizen says:

Ryan might be compromised by a Rico Case.

Hatch has a chance of becoming president at this point.

At any rate Trump is a dead man walking. Obstruction of justice is 100% provable and impeachable. Anything is else just icing on the cake. Even if he sticks around emasculated by cosntant scandals, he will destroy downballot races. The GOP would be better to get rid of him quick but they won’t.

    Update:

WV faces a $400MM budget hole for FY2018.
No FY2018 budget has been approved, since governor vetoed the one passed by legislature right after end of regular 60 day session.

WV legislature special session called to pass revenue / tax increase measures and a FY2018 budget.
    *********************************
    1. First special session on budget ended with no agreement by Senate and House.

    2. All but 1 Senate D voted FOR the increased revenue plan in the first special session on Gov. Justice (D) revenue plan which passed 33 to 1. House rejected.

    3. During current 2nd special session, on basically the SAME revenue plan, all Senate Ds voted AGAINST the governor’s revenue plan. This was AFTER the governor gave a speech on Senate floor to urge everyone to support his revenue plan.

    4. Senate Ds say they do not like the part of the revenue plan that lowers income tax. They say it would reduce revenue. INSTEAD, the DEMs offer amendment to stop taxing social security income in WV (IGNORING THE FACT THAT THAT WOULD ALSO REDUCE REVENUE). Amendment fails.

    5. 400 pound Gov. Justice gives speech on House floor to urge everyone to support his revenue plan. Most convoluted, bizarre speech I have ever watched. Governor says his revenue bill increasing taxes by $400MM will allow all the cuts in unnecessary spending that the House had voted to cut during regular session will be RESTORED!

    6. Amazingly, the governor had NOT actually presented a BUDGET bill in EITHER special session called by the governor to pass a budget!

    7. In BOTH special sessions called by the governor, governor did NOT have his bills written and ready for the legislature on day one of the sessions–so $35,000 to gavel in and then recess until tomorrow.

  524. Walt says:

The budget bill the WV legislature originally passed was vetoed by the governor because it did not raise taxes by $400MM….

  525. Walt says:

    WV further update:

    to close budget gap,

The WV Senate (R controlled) wants to raise sales tax and cut income tax.

The WV House (R controlled) wants to lower sales tax, but broaden the base and get rid of sales tax exemptions for attorneys, barbers, etc. that currently are not subject to sales tax.

*I guess I won’t be invited to the reception.

  576. Wes says:

I didn’t bring up slavery, Mike. Bitterlaw did that because it’s literally the one thing in American history he has even a hazy knowledge of. It’s his go-to topic of discussion given his complete and utter ignorance of the 237 years of American history bookending the Civil War.

  577. NYCmike says:

City is a mess, as you could imagine.

I always tell my son, and my wife, PAY ATTENTION, no matter where you are in the city. Not sure if it would have mattered with this guy driving on sidewalk at 80mph!

    What a son of a b*tch!

  578. Bitterlaw (Trump sucks but Hillary would be worse) says:

Find and post the quote, Delicate Flower.

Your defense of all drunk drivers except GWB is very strange. DUI is one of the easiest crimes to not commit. If you are driving, don’t drink. If you are drinking, don’t drive.

I wonder if Wes hugged the driver who hit him and said, “Sorry I was in your way. I didn’t mean to kill your buzz.”

  579. Bitterlaw (Trump sucks but Hillary would be worse) says:

    DC

  580. Bitterlaw (Trump sucks but Hillary would be worse) says:

Zzzzzzzzzzz. Wes is in fine form today. he hates hearing about slavery because somewhere deep in his twisted soul he knows that it was more than just “wrong” but he can’t admit that or he would have to think there is something dark about his beloved South.

Good fighting with you, Wes. Go back to cheating on Tink.

  581. pitchaboy says:

Joe Lieberman will be a huge unforced error. At the end of the day, when you cut him, he bleeds donkey.

  582. Wes says:

The guy who defended Lincoln’s decision in the Emancipation Proclamation to not actually emancipate any slaves–especially those within his jurisdiction–tries to savage me on the slavery issue.

    That’s a delicious irony.

  583. Jonesy says:

370 EV Robbie, you have no credibility here. Why do you post so much?

    We all scroll past you

  584. Chicon says:

    Who wants to discuss abortion?

  585. NYCmike says:

    https://www.the-american-interest.com/2017/05/16/democrats-push-left-as-midterm-campaigns-approach/

-Keep going left, Democrats, like a Nascar track…..eventually , there will be a crash, and hopefully Republicans will drive right thru the wreckage, if they have the cojones to stand up to the B.S., and the to the #NeverTrumpers.

  586. Wes says:

If you are driving, don’t drink. If you are drinking, don’t drive.

Oddly enough, Bitterlaw doesn’t apply this rule to would-be inarticulate heads of state.

  587. Jonesy says:

    603. Well said Pitch. Lieberman voted for Obamacare and is a far left social liberal.

But due to Senile McCain, he may be the only one to get thru Senate at this point

  588. NYCmike says:

Ray Kelly, former NYPD commissioner, would be a good pick, in my humble opinion.

  589. Wes says:

You didn’t type it right, Chicon.

    It’s as follows:

    Who wants to discuss ABORTION?

  590. NYCmike says:

We don’t need Lieberman anywhere near DC.

“CG” to claim anti-semitism in 3…..2……1…..

  591. Wes says:

Joe Lieberman stuck with the Democrats after they ran him out of the party.

He’s a blind partisan hack with a spine like a wet noodle.

  592. Chicon says:

Tell McCain to pound sand – leave McCabe there; doesn’t matter if he’s a dem since Mueller is running everything important anyway.

  593. Wes says:

If they have to pick a former Senator who has an affinity for the Democrat Party, why not Chuck Hagel?

He rebuilt yhe NEGOP–unintenyionally, I’m sure–and has served in a cabinet position,

  594. Jonesy says:

One true fact is that the Never Trumpers have been outed. They cannot get Fed Jobs and are pissed.

NRO is dying on the vine. They are so desperate to work, that faux conservatives like Brett Stephens have to take spots at the NYT.

But Robbie will always quote them

  595. Wes says:

    Ugh. I hate typos.

  596. Chicon says:

Thanks, Wes. Makes sense to yell it.

  597. Jonesy says:

Wes, Jim Webb would be better. But he voted for Obamacare too

  598. Jonesy says:

    610. Mike was Ray Kelly in office during 9/11? If so he would be confirmed

  599. Wes says:

Webb is another political will-o’-the-wisp. He was a Republican till Schumer begged him to become a Democrat. He won only because George Allen decided to conduct the most spectacular meltdown since Chernobyl and was so much a nonentity as Senator he difn’t even bother seeking reelection. I don’t see whst he brings to the table.

  600. PresidentPaul! says:

Yep even Comey would be a better choice than Lieberman.

  601. Chicon says:

The fbi chief should be a totally non-political person who most of America doesn’t know.

  602. Jonesy says:

What was Ronald Reagan’s approval in 1982? It sure crippled him for 1984, when he won 525 electoral votes

  603. Chicon says:

    622 – Lieberman looking better all of a sudden…..

  604. Wes says:

Reagan was mid to high 40s in 1982. Of course he also had to contend with 10% unrmployment. He recovered once the economy improved in 1983 and q984.

  605. Jonesy says:

    621. Nothing Wes, but anything is better than Lieberman. Why not a woman? Kelly Ayotte?

Would the Senate dk the first Female FBI Chief?

  606. Wes says:

    I’m all for Lieberman noe.

Once Bunu expresses dislike for someone, we know we’ve found the right person.

  607. Chicon says:

624 – Robbie here to sat Trump is not Reagan in 3…2…1….

  608. Jonesy says:

    626. Thanks Wes. Was it ever lower than that, maybe in 1981?

  609. Jonesy says:

    629. Robbie is a big Govt , pro Media Republican like the Bushes.

After all the evidence that the Media was working for the DNC in 2016, the guy still quotes hacks like Pete Williams at NBC. Williams said that Trump was leaving the ticket the weekend of P###ygate.

Maddening, the reason I scroll past him

  610. Jonesy says:

Robbie also was ripping on David Clarke

  611. Trump says:

    Mike Flynn for FBI director.

    The obvious choice, folks.

  612. pitchaboy says:

I think Robbie is a DKos plant. I would not worry about 2018 or 2020. DJT gets tax reform and HC, nothing stops him except indictment.

  613. Jonesy says:

Friend made a good point on Lieberman. He taking the post gives trump some stability and a easy confirmation

  614. Jonesy says:

    634. Right Pitch. Thank God he got Gorsuch on the Court first. Robbie could be a Kos Kid, who else would quote WaPo and the NYT in this enviroment?

  615. Jonesy says:

Somebody must have pictures of Chaffetz. He is a House Chairman and a establishment hack. Why is he running?

  616. NYCmike says:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raymond_Kelly

Ray Kelly was commish in 1993, during that WTC attack, but not in 2001.

Schumer has pushed him for certain positions. I always found him to be an honest person.

  617. Chicon says:

639 – why doesn’t Russia just pass along all the emails to WikiLeaks? Talk about destabilizing…..

  618. pitchaboy says:

It occurs to me that DJT got elected because of unique political instincts and communication skills. He is governing, it appears, with very bad advice and not trusting his instincts. The immediate circle that surrounds him has Kushner and Cohn, two big time democrats. Lieberman pick probably comes on their recommendation. It is time he kicks these guys out along with Rience Priebus and get a couple of adult conservatives in.

  619. Jonesy says:

You have to wonder if the Dems are worried about Swing Vote Kennedy and Ginsberg retiring.

that is the real long game, not this fake news crap

  620. Cash Cow TM says:

Some lines from WV Gov. Justice speech to the WV House of Delegates yesterday:

“We’ve got our leg in a crocodile’s mouth,” Justice said. “Maybe it works, and if it works we go straight to the roof. We do wonderful. If it doesn’t work and we’ve got our foot in the crocodile’s mouth in 2021 or 2022.

“But right now we’ve got our whole leg in the crocodile’s mouth. And if you’re men and he gets ready to bite, it’s going to hurt more than your leg. If you hear what I said.”
    _____________________________________
“Here’s my problem. We are doing too many things for the sake of politics,” Justice said. “Yesterday you saw something happen that was terribly, terribly disappointing and unbelievable to me. Unbelievable. You saw the Senate Dems vote unanimously against a proposal that had been put forth in big part by me.

“Well, that feeling of you turn around and feel like you’ve carried the flag, you’ve done all you can do. You are all alone. It’s not any good. It really wasn’t a vote against me. It was petty politics. But I’ve said many, many times on the other side of petty politics is a name, a family, a school, a university and on and on and on.”
    ________________________
“I really respect your Speaker. We throw mud back and forth. I really respect your leadership and all of you. I want nothing but goodness here.”
    ______________________
During his talk, he said he felt alone and then said the Democrats in the Senate [who unanimously voted against gov. Justice’s revenue plan] abandoned vulnerable people who would have benefited from his budget package.

“Yesterday was unbelievable. Unbelievable,” the governor said. “When you’ve given everything you’ve got in the world and your friends desert you, it bothers you.”

“They walked away from the common everyday person. They basically said doop on y’all. All they cared about was some political nothing. The bizarre thing of all is the least they would have done is someone tell me what they were going to do. Not a word.

  621. Jonesy says:

    641. Agreed. Too much New York in his circle.

  622. pitchaboy says:

NYC: Entirely possible. The bulk of NYT and WP bombshells come from un-named sources which dont really pan out. For instance, the Comey note of DJT asking to stop the investigation directly contradicts his sworn testimony on 5/3 when he said that it is a big deal for anyone to ask to stop a FBI investigation and it did not happen. wP and NYT refused to publish vetted and verified news relating to IRS scandal or Benghazi; now all they need is a rumor and it goes on the front page. The Dems are using these two pitiful rags as their WMD.

  623. Cash Cow TM says:

I think we should vote for NYT for president and WaPo for vice president.

  624. Bitterlaw (Trump sucks but Hillary would be worse) says:

The guy who defended Lincoln’s decision in the Emancipation Proclamation to not actually emancipate any slaves–especially those within his jurisdiction–tries to savage me on the slavery issue.

The guy who claims to be a history genius knows that if Lincoln had tried to free the slaves in the border states during the war and the Union would have lost the war. That would be Wes’ ideal result so that the merely wrong practice of slavery could continue.

  625. Jonesy says:

Almost 6pm Eastern. Robbie will be here soon to quote fake news from the Compost.

    645. Pitch, have to hope that Americans outside the East Coast Corridor, just become immune to this crap.

WaPo were predicting doom for Trump in Va in the Fall, with polls of HRC up 20%. He led most of eelction night until the Fraud Nova took him down.

  626. Cash Cow TM says:

So, could it be said that “Roger Ailes No More”?

Death puts us past the ailing stage.

  627. Bitterlaw (Trump sucks but Hillary would be worse) says:

Oddly enough, Bitterlaw doesn’t apply this rule to would-be inarticulate heads of state.

Oddly enough, Wes continues to ignore years of my posts where I said that it was wrong for GWB to drive drunk.

  628. Cash Cow TM says:

    Let’s discuss:

What would be the position of slaves in 1860s on abortion, if medical advances of 2017 existed in the 1860s?

  629. Bitterlaw (Trump sucks but Hillary would be worse) says:

I think Tina should be the FBI Director

  630. Jonesy says:

Bitterlaw, with all due respect, I am more worried about the war with Deep State at the moment. But one caveat.

Mary Todd Lincoln’s Brothers all fought for the South.

  631. Jonesy says:

    Tina is great

  632. Jonesy says:

why not Kelly Ayotte for FBI? She helped Gorsuch

  633. Bitterlaw (Trump sucks but Hillary would be worse) says:

Mary Todd Lincoln was crazy. Probably driven insane by knowing her brothers were traitors.

  634. Bitterlaw (Trump sucks but Hillary would be worse) says:

I would love Ayotte for FBI. However, Tina has all the answers.

  635. Jonesy says:

Union soldiers were just as racist as the Rebels. They fought for food and pay

  636. NYCmike says:

“The immediate circle that surrounds him has Kushner and Cohn, two big time democrats. Lieberman pick probably comes on their recommendation. It is time he kicks these guys out along with Rience Priebus and get a couple of adult conservatives in.”

    -Agreed.

Gingrich as Chief of Staff, although I am surprised his ego could accommodate being behind the scenes, would be a step in the ‘right’ direction.

    Get it? “right” 🙂

  637. Trump says:

Racism is now institutionalized in the North.

Just check the make up of all northern cities.

  638. Tina says:

No, fbi directorship, for me. I am battling skunks.

    I need walts advice.

I was told thst firearms were off limit by e controlling legal authority.

  639. Tina says:

I have no problem wi lieberman as fbi director.

But according to the kos kiddos, i am anti semitic.

  640. Tina says:

    Comedys testimony outweighs fake memo.

    No way he testifies.

Btw, he would not testify since goober admitted that their investigative work is done due to the soecial prosecutor,

That is one reason why i am happy that the congress was cut off.

I happened to read a story yesterday saying the pro-Trump twitter trolls, who more or less disappeared after he won, have started to make themselves heard again.

  642. Tina says:

Otice reuters has calls, intercepted calls. That is wiretapping btw.

  643. Tina says:

Conversations between Flynn and Kislyak accelerated after the Nov. 8 vote as the two discussed establishing a back channel for communication between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin that could bypass the U.S. national security bureaucracy, which both sides considered hostile to improved relations, four current U.S. officials said.

    – Why write it when you already have? And by the way, it’s true. Reagan was an experienced two term governor who had a fully formed philosophy after nearly three decades of writing and speaking. Trump once fired Dennis Rodman on TV and allowed advisors to convince him Andrew Jackson, a crap sandwich of a president, was a worthy role model.

    – Absolutely true. First, he’s a Democrat who pins fake medals on his uniform and seems to spend more time in the FoxNews greenroom than in his office.

That said, I particularly like the story when Clarke covered up for a deputy who caused into a sober woman’s car, broke her neck, and then claimed she was drunk and blamed her.

    Great guy for Homeland Security.

Went to my town and county government and asked is they trap them and relocate the skunks. No dice.

  699. SanDiegoCitizen says:

Looks like the Republicans may have gotten their act together early in the Montana Congressional race. This is from the Washington Post with its usually leftist bias.

“Both campaigns have worked to get their bases to vote early, with at least 200,000 voters already having turned in their ballots by early Friday morning. Turnout has been slightly higher in Republican-leaning counties, though Quist, unusually for a Democrat, has worked to win his home base of Flathead County — usually a conservative stronghold.”

    – At this point, I don’t see how anyone could honestly believe Trump colluded with Russia. After four months, it seems fairly evident he and his staff couldn’t organize a two car parade if they tried. There’s ZERO chance they were able to pull off something like this with a foreign power.

Of course, the paranoia that seems to consume Trump at times has caused him to make a lot of mistakes. Firing Comey and then saying he did so to ease the pressure of the Russia investigation was mistake that’s going to haunt him.

Its always fund to poke a stick in a bee hive then listen to the buzz. But Trump should also be bringing out where he is succeeding, like a good economy, greatly reduced illegal immigration, etc.

Since Trump was elected, the anti-Trump fanatics have shrieked their outrage-du-jour every single day. The press, like CNN and AP bias every article against him. People are turning it out.

  864. SanDiegoCitizen says:

    899. “tuning”, not “turning”. Often spell check is not your friend.

  865. Wes says:

    Good point, Jonesy.

In 1983, the US was just coming off the long Carter recession, which had led to 10% unemployment throughout 1982.

Interestingly Reagan’s low approvals in 1982 didn’t seriously hurt the GOP in Congress. They hit 54 seats in the Senate after Harrison Williams resigned and stayed even in November. Although Republicans lost 26 House seats that year, that was primarily due to redistricting conducted by Dem legislatures. Michael Barone estimates without aggressive Dem gerrymandering–Dems once used gerrymandering to their advantage? Who knew?–Republicans would only have suffered a relatively light loss of 11 seats in the House.

Trump is unpopular now, but the Democrat Party is not the same as in 1982. Rather than the champion of the little man, it’s now a mishmash of SJWS, misandrists, vitriolic socialists, and racebaiters reflexively opposing anything even lightly smelling of Trump or the GOP. That’s not exactly the kind of political party that inspires confidence as one able to govern.

  866. Wes says:

I swear, Trump and the Republicans could fund a 100% effective cure for AIDS, and Democrats would complain the GOP did it only because rich white men poured money into GOP campaign coffers to get a cure and be able to have multiple affairs without the risk of suffering from the disease.

  867. SanDiegoCitizen says:

    900. Would agree, a huge problem is the Democrats are not offering an alternative to Trump. They are badly divided, and do not have a clear leader who could challenge Trump in 2020.

By default, Sanders is barnstorming for Democratic candidates, and ironically being attacked by even more left-wing fanatics.

  870. Wes says:

  871. SanDiegoCitizen says:

It is ironic the Democratic Party, whose former leader recently reduced the sentence of traitor “Chelsea” Manning, now claims Wikileaks disclosures of Clintons E-mails should disqualify a presidential candidate. The hypocrisy is sickening.

  872. Wes says:

Dems basically have themselves pigeonholed. They’re so race conscious they can’t get a candidate who can appeal to an increasingly GOP white portion of the electorate. They knew the anti-white aspect of their party cost them among white men. Then in 2016 things got worse as white women began voting with their male counterparts. I guess white women weren’t wowed with one of their own’s running an anti-white campaign.

Now Dems are probably going yo learn the wrong lesson from this:

Rather than nominate another Bill Clinton, they’ll probably nominate a check-the-box, fanatically far-left female and/or minority. That can work if Trump presides over a van Buren-, Cleveland-, Hoover-, Eisenhower-, Carter-, or GWB-style economic downturn. Otherwise, chances of victory would be slim indeed.

  873. Wes says:

It’s also ironic Obama now commands a $400,000 fee per speech, SDC, just four years after signing a tax increase package that raised taxes on lower income people despite a campaign promise to raise taxes ONLY on the rich.

Nothing says champion of the poor like making your former year’s salary in a night after increasing taxes on the poor and middle class. 🙄

“More importantly, it’s not hard to believe the recent chaos may cause Anthony Kennedy to postpone his retirement.”
What makes you say this, Robbie?

    – At his core, Anthony Kennedy is an elitist. I have to wonder whether he’s willing to let Trump, with controversy after controversy swirling around him, choose his successor when so much seems to be up in the air. I could easily see him deciding to wait another year in hopes that a calmer atmosphere exists.

Not saying he won’t retire. Just saying the chaos may cause him to think twice.

  879. Jonesy says:

Wain,, with all due respect RCP was a little closer in November before the vote, but had Trump way down thruout the Fall by including bogus University polls like Monmouth.

RCP was very discredited in 2016, along with Silver

  880. Jonesy says:

    914. Robbie, you are so wrong. If you read a little less MSM, you would have a clue.

#908, Dems nominating Lizzie Warren would be the best possible result for Trump IMO. I keep seeing Kamala Harris’s name tossed around, but she does not even seem close to ready for prime time like Barry was early in his Senate career.

The Dem bench as currently constituted is still pretty weak. Joe Biden, as old as he would be, might be the scariest possible opponent for Trump at this point ,which is kind of pathetic. However, we of course are a LONG way away…

  883. Robbie says:

Reagan’s approval rating in early 1983 was low due to a poor economy. Trump’s low approval rating is entirely due to self inflicted wounds and scandals. I see no comparison between the two.

Jonesy, Cronkite hated all Republicans. Americans in general disagreed.

  918. Jonesy says:

Jennifer Rubin is another anti trump Moron

  919. Wes says:

Reagan was only the third President of the 20th Century after Roosevelt and Ike to win a presidential landslide and follow it with a bigger landslide. Clinton did so on a significantly smaller scale in the next decade.

Neither President elected before Trump in the 21st Century had much to brag about. Bush won by razor-thin margins twice. Obama turned a medium-sized popular-vote victory into an electoral landslide in 2008 but lost ground on all fronts in 2012.

  920. SanDiegoCitizen says:

    949. “SDC, LIBERALS thought that about Reagan. Everyone else in the country than the hardcore Left found Reagan to be a fine man and Presidrnt.”

That true for his re-election after he had settled in. But the Democrats made a substantial pick up in the mid-term elections two years after he was elected.

Anyone who is attempting to enact substantial change in direction of a country is going to get beat up by special interests and those benefiting from the status quo — both Reagan and Thatcher were, but once the changes settle in their support mounted, and they were re-elected. Trump is in the same mold — he will press ahead and make the needed changes, and if your successful will get re-elected.

  921. SanDiegoCitizen says:

Reagan’s overarching success was defeating communism and ending the cold war. Ironically, since Trump is in Saudi Arabia now, Reagan had Saudi Arabian help in that effort. The Berlin Wall came down in 1990, after he was out-of-office, but he made it happen.

  922. Wes says:

    DJT is not Ronald Reagan.

I do wish the best for the “US of A” under a DJT presidency (or any president), but one of the biggest obstacles to the success of a DJT presidency that DJT needs to overcome IS……..

    ….DJT.

    **********************************************
    1. Reagan served 8 years as governor of Cal-ef-porn-eye-a. DJT was never elected to anything.
DJT’s lack of political experience shows glaringly.

    2. Reagan spent years actually figuring out a well thought out, coherent personal/political philosophy and belief system–and communicating that to the public. DJT, not so much.

    3. Reagan spent years working to help others in the R party in many places and successfully espouse his conservative views. DJT? No and No.

    4. As a person, Reagan was well liked by the public. DJT is considered a despicable clown or worse by huge chunk of people and farm animals in the U.S. and throughout the world.

    5. Reagan was a very effective communicator, good speaker. DJT, disaster X2.

    6. President Reagan surrounded himself with competent staff and advisers who understood how a white house should operate. DJT–turmoil out of the gate.

    7. Reagan acted presidential, before, during and after his presidency. DJT not presidential before–and so far not during his presidency yet…more petulance than presidential.

    8. Reagan had a D controlled congress and worked effectively with Tip O’Neil and others on the other side of the fence. DJT has a hard time working effectively with people on the SAME side of political fence as DJT.
    __________________________________________
As I said on day after the election, get used to it being a very rough 4 years of a DJT presidency.
3 1/2 years from now it will be just as much turmoil, media hatred, D opposition and hystronics, etc. as it has been in the last 6 months since he won the election.
    *****************************************
It is a real head scratcher as to how both parties in 2016 could have selected such bad and monumentally flawed presidential candidates.

    – If this dingbat hand’t just started commenting here a few days ago, he’d have known there was no one who complained more during the 2012 election about the crappy campaign Stuart Stevens ran for Romney. And in 2008, I threw plenty of arrows at Steve Schmidt.

And since my memory is quite good, I can vividly remember Jason and the others attacking me for criticizing Stuart Stevens. Jonesy doesn’t know that because he only showed up three days ago to defend Trump.

  928. Robbie says:

It’s ridiculous to compare Reagan and Trump. Ronald Reagan spent 40 years of his life in politics. In 1964, he delivered his “Time for Choosing” speech for Goldwater and then served two successful terms as governor of California. He won both of those races by wide margins. After his governorship, he spent time traveling the country, delivering radio commentaries on the politics of the day, and helping lay the foundation of modern conservatism.

It’s true the liberal press always hated Reagan, but the voters never did. Sure his approval rating dipped in late 1982 and early 1983, but the economy had gone through a very sharp recession. His approval rating dip had nothing to do with scandal or the appearance of incompetence.

On the other hand, Trump spent most of the last 40 years as a Democrat. Rather than lay the foundation for political Trumpism, Donald spent his time stroking his own image by obsessing about the image the NYC tabloids portrayed of him. Rather learn policy, he started a reality show where he fired celebrities like Dennis Rodman.

To compare Trump’s standing in the polls to Reagan just misses the mark widely. Trump’s low approval rating is due to divisive past, his inflammatory comments, erratic behavior, and the scandals that swirl around him after just 120 days. On top of that, his White House has given the impression it couldn’t organize a two car parade. Reagan never had those issues.

  929. PresidentPaul! says:

    #965
Trump’s poor approval is due to a lack of immigration enforcement, poor policy, the Reagan amnesty, and Reagan’s VP and VP’s son.

California is now Venezuela politically with Arizona and Texas right behind it, and they want to add Puerto Rico as a state now.

  930. Pence/Rubio 2020 says:

Trump’s approval ratings should go up a lot after today. The Saudis really treated him like a king. I felt proud.

  931. SanDiegoCitizen says:

    965. Keep in mind that Reagan was also once a Democrat and quoted FDR in his first convention speech. The term “Reagan Democrat” emerged then.

Agree with a lot of what you say. Trump as a businessman is used to firing people at will, and setting his own agenda. He is going to have to learn this is not how government works.

  932. SanDiegoCitizen says:

Reagan often said crazy things that got him in trouble. Remember his comment in response to the question of preserving the redwoods was something like “a tree is just a tree, you seen one seen them all.” It resulted in a major outcry.

Believe his major strength was he attracted a cadre of completely dedicated advisers, who were totally loyal and committed to him. They formed a protective cocoon around him — and Reagan actually listened to them.

Knew one whose name people would recognize. He did not like some of the “office politics”, but was, and remained, totally loyal and admiring of Reagan as a leader and human being.

  933. Tina says:

    Any fake news this evening?

  934. Robbie says:

Reagan officially switched to the Republican Party in 1962 which was 18 years before he became president. He identified with the Party though through much of the 1950’s though.

Trump was a Democrat as late as 2009.

  935. Wes says:

Dems last won a statewide election in Texas in 1994. They last won statewide in Arizona in 2006. They kept power in the House delegations through judges’ rulings and stacked commissions. Bunu thinks they’re about to become California though. Unlikely at best unless the TXGOP and AZGOP completely collapse.

  936. Wes says:

Reagan revitalized the GOP much as Harding had done. If not for Reagan, the GOP would never have recovered from being the secondary party it became during the Great Depression.

  937. Wes says:

That said, Reagan wasn’t perfect. Kooks such as Jeffrey Bell became politically active because of him and empowered the Dems, and Reagan did little after 1980 to help Republicans win downballot. Even so, the Great Communicator laid the foundation for the Gingrich Revolution and helped the national GOP start reviving itself downballot and become a party capable of competing with the Dems for the first time since the 1920s.

  938. Wes says:

It always infuriates me when I read how Ed Rollins gloated about forcing Roger Jepsen and Charles Percy into politically compromising positions to cost them their Senate seats. Reagan should have prevented Rollins from engaging in his antics.

I’m pretty sure once Walt started having to measure his lifespan in millennia, all people who died would be younger than he.

  943. Bitterlaw says:

After Methusalah met Walt, he just gave up.

  944. Diamond Jim says:

    Thread’s dead baby. Thread’s dead.

  945. Walt says:

    Bitter,

    Congrats on your team winning.

It had to feel good for the girls.

Now they have a win streak going.

  946. Cash Cow TM says:

    According to Facebook:

Jul is in King of Prussia eating food.

Wissing has not been seen since May 17 when he went to NY City.

Walt and Mrs. Walt just got back from Berkeley Springs looking for a table to put behind the couch.

WV still has no FY2018 budget. Maybe Gov. Justice will get off his duff and actually send a budget over to the legislature.

  947. Robbie says:

Slow day. Should I write something that gets everyone riled up?

  948. San Diego Citizen says:

Interesting to contrast Trump’s welcome in Saudi Arabia with Obama’s welcome in 2016.

“Obama, who has visited Saudi Arabia more times than any US president before him, was not greeted by the Saudi king at the airport. Saudi state television broadcast no live pictures of the US president’s arrival.”

Of course, the Chinese did about the same thing to Obama in 2016, snubbing him badly. The world seem to enjoy humiliating America’s weak and pacifistic president back then. His presidency was a low point in United States history.

-I started not liking Notre Dame in the early ’90’s, when too many Irish friends got pissed when I made a critical remark about the university.

Now, it strikes me as just another liberal institution.

  952. San Diego Citizen says:

    990. “Very successful, day 2 for donald of arabia.”

Especially when fringe leftists in the U.S. attack Trump for being anti-Muslim.

  953. SanDiegoCitizen says:

    President Trump in Saudi Arabia:

“I stand before you as a representative of the American people to deliver a message of friendship and hope and love,” Trump said at the Arab Islamic American Summit. “That is why I chose to make my first foreign visit a trip to the heart of the Muslim world. To the nation that serves as custodians of the two holiest sites in the Islamic faith.”

  954. Cash Cow TM says:

Well, now that we outlawed the right to display the confederate flag and are taking down all CW statutes honoring any confederate, we need to start with other things:

rename streets currently named Confederate Drive, Rebel Street, etc. and make restaurants named Rebel Roost, etc change their names.

at national CW battlefields, take down all markers telling where the confederate forces were during the battle.

Outlaw the music group “Confederate Railroad” and jail the members and everyone who owns any of their albums.

In U.S. history books, remove all references to the Articles of Confederation.
    ______________

THEN, we can get around to banning things I am offended by and give me gas….

    starting with rap music
    droopy drawers
    tattoos
    George Soros
    soccer

MD has serious Trump derangement after campaigning for Hillary so long.

  956. Robbie says:

The story, as reported by FoxNews contributor Rod Wheeler, was debunked within 24 hours by NBC, CNN, and the Washington Post. On top of that, Rod Wheeler was not on the payroll of the family. He was, in fact, hired by a Texas business. Finally, Wheeler told CNN he had NOT obtained information linking Rich to Wikileaks.

But by all means, continue to push a Fake News story that Drudge threw out there hoping it would take attention away from another terrible week for Trump.
