Ossoff Opens Up 7% Lead in GA-6

Democrat Ossoff might be on his way to taking a Republican-held seat if a new poll from Survey USA in Georgia is to be believed.

Jon Ossoff (D) 51%
Karen Handel (R) 44%

This poll was done September May 16-20 among 549 likely voters.

How do you even do that?

  3. Trump will destroy the GOP says:

Karen Handel is a horrible candidate. She’s like Hillary dull and boring. She’s running against a socialist and she’s losing? Maybe, the bombing in London will help?

  4. Phil says:

Socialist winning handily in a Republican district.

Hard to pull off, but Republicans are well on their way.

  5. Trump will destroy the GOP says:

Yeah, Erik Erickson said she was running a bad campaign last week. The election is June 20. The GOP has time to turn it around.

  6. lisab says:

this report gives an idea of how trump is doing

“The Democratic National Committee reported its worst April of fundraising since 2009, according to Federal Election Commission records released Monday.

The DNC reported taking in $4.7 million last month. While this is an off-year for fundraising, the DNC hauled $8.5 million last year, and nearly $5 million in 2015. Between 2010 and 2014, the Democrats received anywhere from $6.3 million to $14.4 million per year.

However, the drop in donations coincides with an effort by DNC Chair Tom Perez and Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., to rally support for the party. The two traveled the country on a “unity tour.”

The Republican National Committee’s April numbers more than doubled its counterpart. The RNC reported raising $9.6 million in April and holding $41 million cash on hand. The DNC said it has $8.8 million on hand.”

  7. Wes says:

She’s a great candidate who got 42% in a fictional Republican primary!*

Then why is she losing to a leftist carpetbagger in a GOP district?

  8. lisab says:

the dems are in a bind

the hardcore trump haters like robbie and md are still giving,

but the rank and file are not as energized as msnbc would have you believe. the regular folks on the other hand don’t like the constant bashing of their president

on top of that, obama is raising money for himself, and not for the party

  9. lisab says:

the only bright spot the dems have is the senate fund, where both parties are in the red, but even there they are minus $7 million compared to the reps which are minus $700 thousand

the reps have almost double the money the dems have in the congressional fund, $31 million to $16 million — which isn’t really that much —

but the national committee has $41 million to the dnc’s $6 million and is out raising almost 2 to 1

in 2014 and 2016 the dems were out-raising the reps by about $3 million a month

  10. lisab says:

the dems really need that seat

it might turn things around for them

  11. Wes says:

Well, Lisa, Handel is well on her way to coakleying the seat to them.

The jebot is blaming trump if she loses.

    – Absolutely. Trump’s low approval rating has created a toxic atmosphere for Republicans across the country. It’s why Republicans barely held on to a ruby district in KS, it’s why Gianforte is struggling in a race Zinke won by 20 six months ago, and it’s why Handel is trailing in a district where Price usually got 60% of the vote.

Trump’s bad first four months as president have been detrimental to Republicans.

  17. Robbie says:

Trump benefited from having Clinton as a foil. That’s why, even with low approval ratings, he was able to win the electoral college. Now, there’s no Hillary to use as a punching bag. It’s just Trump vs. what people expect/hope from a generic president. Until he can change the perception the public has of him, Republicans will pay the price.

  39. Phil says:

So the explosion in Britain was a suicide bombing. I wondered when ISIS would return to that mode. Thousands were killed in that manner in Iraq. No way to stop it.

I am amazed they haven’t tried that here in the US. Load up an explosive with nails and ball berrings and detonate it at a sporting event or concert and you can easily take out 500 to 1000 people. Pro and college sporting events check bags but to my knowledge it isn’t done at high school events.

Sadly, just a matter of time. How hard is it to slip a terrorist across our non existent southern border?

Just a matter of time, and time is running out.

  40. SanDiegoCitizen says:

Of all polling firms, would rate Survey USA at rock bottom. Too many wacky poll results.

  41. Phil says:

Well, SD has a point. When SUSA first came out in 2002 they were quite accurate. The last few cycles they have been crap.

  42. Tina says:

And reports of little to no security.

I hope the pm still wins but her polling lead was slipping before tonite

  43. SanDiegoCitizen says:

Survey USA has done several polls in San Diego that have turned out wildly inaccurate. When the Mayor of San Diego was first elected, they had a poll showing the race was close, the Mayor won in a cakewalk.

  44. SanDiegoCitizen says:

The Georgia congressional race is likely very competitive, but doubt Ossoff has a 7 point lead.

  45. Tina says:

And it is all trumps fault that the race is close.

  46. SanDiegoCitizen says:

An April 10th headline from Salon magazine:

“A blue wave begins? Republicans may be in trouble in Kansas, Montana and Georgia elections.”

The Republicans won Kansas, probably will win Montana (the national Democrats appear to not be providing much funding), Georgia is likely competitive.

The Democrats may need to wait to the end of the year to chortle about winning the governors. races

  47. SanDiegoCitizen says:

By the way, for anyone dumb enough to believe gun control will control violent crime in urban areas, London is having an epidemic of “knife crime”

“After a dramatic surge in stabbings, the new head of the Metropolitan police, Cressida Dick, spoke approvingly earlier in the week about stop and search, praising it as “hugely powerful” in tackling knife crime.
On Thursday, speaking to families in south London, Dick described the level of knife crime as outrageous and said most Londoners supported increased stop and search powers. “If police carrying stop and search can help to stop [knife crime] then the vast majority of people will be very supportive.”
Thirty people have been stabbed to death in London this year, a rise of almost a third on the same period in 2016. There have been 14 deaths in the last month alone. The latest occurred on Thursday afternoon, shortly after Dick met concerned parents in Putney, south London, when a 20-year-old man was stabbed in front of his girlfriend as the couple walked to their car, after watching a film in Romford, east London.”

  48. Phil says:

SD, so what is your take on the prospects of single payer passing the California legislature and more than doubling that California budget and taxes? I mean, isn’t the legislature about seventy percent Democrat? How do you stop that with just a handful of Republican legislators?

Seems there isnt enough of a Republican Party in California to stop the insanity out there.

  49. SanDiegoCitizen says:

    50. Your talking California, do you think they care about how much it costs? As they say, California “takes money from those who work for a living in order to give it to those who vote for a living.”

Keep in mind the proposal will also provide health care for non-citizens residing in California. At present about 38% of California taxes goes to funding Medicaid (Medi-Cal in California) and government health programs. About 35% of the population is on Medi-Cal; in some counties in the Central Valley it is over 50% of the population.

Happily, there are a lot of very rich people in California, particularly tech people. And being leftists and progressive, they will be more than happy to pay a 25% surcharge on their income to fund single payer. Plus all those California companies like Google, Apple, etc., who have billions stashed offshore, will voluntarily bring it back to fund single payer.

Don’t forget that without California’s vote, Trump would have carried the popular vote. It is important California become an example of what Bernie Sanders utopia would be like.

Oh, yeah……free healthcare ought to be a real magnet for hundreds of thousands more illegals which Cal. tax payers will support. How much will that add to the state welfare roles? It will help my state though in that we don’t, and never will, offer anything like the subsidization of illegal immigration that the crazies out there will offer. They will cross into California for a drivers license, free healthcare for life, and food stamps for the kiddos. Texas gets spared.

If you are working middle class, get out now any way you can.

  53. Phil says:

Plus I’m still blown away by Tina’s 1200 square foot House that will only cost 1.2 million. That is nuts. How does a young couple ever even think about home ownership out there? I guess the answer is you don’t. Work and pay taxes out the gazoo. Hell of a future.

-But, according to people like Author, MD, and “CG”, Trump is the real evil for daring to call out Muslims for committing terrorist acts.

  57. Bitterlaw says:

I look at the casualties as more than numbers. I try to relate it my life. 22 dead is like losing 2 softball teams. 59 injured is another 6 teams. The victims will be young and mostly girls. Pure evil.

Bunu is probably off celebrating today.

  59. NYCmike says:

    Does their “religion” permit it?

  60. NYCmike says:

  61. NYCmike says:

-A Trumpist goes for it in Michigan…..will Author, MD, and “CG” refuse to support her?

  62. Bitterlaw says:

I have always called for the execution of IRA killers. My ancestry does not prevent me from condemning them. I know there are many good Muslims. Time for them to step up and help to stop this slaughter.

  63. NYCmike says:

-Plenty of “stories” out there for Republicans to howl about……of course, due to people like jason and MD mocking the idea of setting the narrative, it does not seem to happen in the Republican Party. Instead they allow the Democrats, like Schumer and Pelosi, to frame the story in a way favorable to DEmocrats.

Then, the Republicans go and blame “deadenders” when voters refuse to vote for Dem-lite policies.

  69. Waingro says:

Well at least Montana looks safe! GA-6 loss would be a disaster. No spinning away that one.

  70. Wes says:

Jason’s probably in mourning at the realization that Karen Hhhandel hasn’t proved the stellar candidate he volubly pitched her as. Reality is often hard for him to accept, as when he declared Mead Treadwell–who received fewer votes than Joe Miller–was the best candidate to challenge Mark Begich in 2014.

  71. Wes says:

Democrats will definitely spin a win in GA-6 favorably. That narrative will be accepted as political reality as superficially it’s true. Realistically Handel is an underwhelming candidate. That’s why Ossoff may win. Republicans put up a woman with at best marginal campaign skills when a more competent de facto nominee was necessary to bury Ossoff early on.

Handel may yet win, but her uninspiring camapign has brought us to this point.

  72. Bitterlaw (Trump sucks but Hillary would be worse) says:

NYC – The British treated the Catholic Irish as lower than dirt. I do not condone violence but a stand-up fight against British soldiers is one thing. Targeting civilians and blowing up department stores is evil. The Protestant Militias in Northern Ireland were no better.
