Election Night Thread – Montana

I would say this might be one of those races that would benefit Republicans in the long term if their candidate goes down, but Republicans nominated Donald Trump for President and thinking long term doesn’t seem to matter much anymore for Republicans….

Polls close at 10pm….

  1. Robbie says:

I don’t think losing this race benefits the Republican Party in the long run. Every seat currently held needs to continue to be held. My guess is, if Gianforte wins, he will be the quietest member of the House over the next year and a half.

  2. Chicon says:

Anyone have a results link for tonight?

If GOP loses, fake news will blame it on Trump.

If GOP wins, fake news will say Trump caused him to fight.

  20. Phil says:

OK, ladies and gentlemen, it is now time to play worst GOP congressional candidates in history.

The nominees are Christine O’Donnell, Ken Buck, Sharron Angle, Richard Mourdock, and the immortal Todd Akin, tonight joined by Richard Gianforte.

Got to go with my main guy Todd Akin, a real clown so bad that Claire Sky Queen worked overtime to get him nominated. He didn’t disappoint her either. He was spectacularly stupid and got buried by double digits in a red state running against a very unpopular incumbent.

Of course My gal Sharron has the distinction of losing to Harry Reid when his approval rating was 35% – a real accomplishment in a Republican wave year.

Let’s not forget Mourdock, however. Managed to say something so stupid he blew a race in red Indiana to about the most bland D congressmen you could ever imagine.

…and the witch. What can you say about her? Stupid and corrupt. What a combination.

Finally, there is Ken Buck who managed to alienate women voters to an extent seldom seen. Actually, he has to share the award with the dummy Republican primary voters who decided that conservative Jane Norton, well, she just wasn’t conservative enough. Senator Bennett still extends his gratitude.

…And, tonight, we have a Republican who decides to do something amazingly dumb to possibly blow a winning election on election eve. Got to put him in the hall of fame for his wonderful timing. That a way, Richard!

Give em all a hand, folks!

  21. Bitterlaw says:

COD. No contest. No other candidate had to run an ad stating that she was not a witch.

  22. Trump says:

You know who are worse candidates than the above? The pathetic losers who lost to them.

  23. PresidentPaul! says:

    #21

    That’s easy: John McCain.

  24. Trump says:

    By definition.

  25. Tina says:

    You can include mitch romney.

    He did not say enough.

  26. Trump says:

The worst candidate in history: Jeb bush.

  27. Tina says:

    Yeah, flub too.

  28. Phil says:

Bitter, yep, always a soft spot in my heart for the broom rider – a deadender’s delight.

  29. Phil says:

Yep, I forgot about Jeb. Worst bang for the bucks in electoral history – a record never to be broken.

  30. barry says:

Worse candidate ever is Hillary, worse republican is Ford he lost to Carter but Carter got us Reagan so I can forgive Ford

  31. Trump says:

More precisely, no bang for the mega bucks for the jebster.

The others lost seats that an R might pick up at a later time, but the Delaware seat is likely out of reach for the near to medium term.

    COD was just bad.

  34. Phil says:

Of course, I was talking strictly mainly about congressional candidates. Any other nominations?

  35. Trump says:

Well Harry, then by definition, Michael castle is worse.

  38. Trump says:

It seems the FBI has been doing a lot of investigating of nothing.

And, more to the point, there is no crime in having ties with Russia.

  39. Phil says:

    Kushner ties to Russia!

On the subject of bad congressional candidates, how can we forget the immortal Al Salvi or Alan Keyes or even Joe Miller–a candidate so bad he lost to a write-in?

  57. Waingro says:

Missoula has been pouring in. Way too early.

  58. Tina says:

The libertarian has taken 6 percent so far, way early though in the count.

  59. Proud Obamacon says:

Well, 538 says things are looking good for the Repuglican. Fine, don’t care. This is a win-win. Good luck having a criminal in office, wouldn’t be the first LOL.

  60. Cash Cow TM says:

  62. Wes says:

So far, Quist isn’t running close to where he needs to be to beat Gianforte, but he’d better hope E-Day votes more favorable. #MTAL

  64. Tina says:

538 also said things look good for her thighness. Until….

  65. Tina says:

Its done. We win by mire than 2″. Looks like cliser to gravis poll.

  66. BennSue says:

I’ve lurked here/posted off and on for years, but thanks CCTM

  67. Robbie says:

Nearly 275000 votes were cast early. When I saw that total earlier this evening, my first thought was Gianforte was in good shape. My guess is there won’t be enough vote today to overcome the early vote and the body slam didn’t have time to “marinate”.

  68. Tina says:

    The body slam sealed it.

Of course, nobody is reporting that now.

  69. Tina says:

The drat likely lost because of muh russia and impeachment.

But go ahead and co tinue to push both.

  70. Wes says:

    My thoughts:

If Gianforte hangs on, then congressional Republicans will breathe easier and havd sn easier time recruiting candidates.

  71. Waingro says:

Quist way behind Bullock’s pace. This is gonna get called soon for the body slammer.

  72. Tina says:

Polling apoears to have turned, once drats pushed impeachment the last 2 plus weeks.

  73. Tina says:

If the race was tightening, then they push impeachment and muh russia, and they end up likely losing by high single.

  74. Tina says:

    Mt sos site crashed

  75. Proud Obamacon says:

LOL so a double digit swing towards the good guys. Can’t wait for 2018 when more competitive seats will be in play.

  76. Tina says:

You pushed impeachment the kast few weeks,

Drop impeachment and muh russia and have a moderate agenda, and tou may win again

  77. SanDiegoCitizen says:

Missoula is the Democratic stronghold in Montana (university town), and it has reported. Things looking good for Republicans.

  78. Tina says:

You cannot win with fake news about muh russia and push impeachment, when 60 percent say the economy is booming.

    But go ahed, push it.

  79. Wes says:

You do realize counting isn’t over yet, I hope, PO?

  80. Tina says:

You have your leaders to blame.

You poured over 6 million into this race.

  81. Waingro says:

And the body slammer takes the lead. Turn out the lights…

  82. Tina says:

Did he put anybody into the figure 4 yet?

  83. Proud Obamacon says:

I will take a double digit swing to my side. We lost the House race by 15 points in 2016. If we lose by 5, I will take it. I will also take a double digit swing in 2018. If that happens, we take the House. I’m ok with that LOL

  84. Tina says:

The ibama reporters glasses cost $800? I am sure he did not oay a dime for them.

I bought 3 pairs of glasses at walmart for $300.

  85. Proud Obamacon says:

I’ll also take a guy in the House who will likely be convicted of assault LOL.. Good luck in 2018 yall!

  86. Robbie says:

    Waingro

What site are you using? I’m on the NYT and it’s behind what you’re using.

  87. Wes says:

I predict Gianforte will as anonymous as possible in Congress.

  88. Waingro says:

Rural districts still haven’t poured in yet. The body slammer might get close to a double digit win.

  89. BennSue says:

looking to be about a 5-7 win for Gianforte

  90. brucefdb says:

Proud Obamoron is new since my last visit, is it one of the old guard if unmasked.?

  91. Robbie says:

    Wes

I put a lot of blame on Zinke. He left the party in a lurch when he surprisingly took Interior. He didn’t help on the Senate race either. Honestly, I’ve been pissed at him ever since.

  92. Tina says:

The ticket or citation will be dismissed.

Everybody is saying nomchoke or slam.

Everybody is sayinf the obama bot was hostile and entered private property without approval.

    Nothingburger.

  93. Proud Obamacon says:

Been here since 2007, never seen you here. Is this the early vote that is still being counted?

  94. Mad Dog says:

Nah, just an intellectual rectum of the first order.

  95. SanDiegoCitizen says:

It would not surprise me if Gianforte picked up votes for taking down the clown reporter from the extreme leftist newspaper. He finally showed he had it in him to be a true Montanan.

The reporter trespassed into his private property, and pushed a microphone in his face. Gianforte should contest the misdemeanor citation.

  96. Robbie says:

    Thanks, Waingro.

  97. Wes says:

Good luck with that, PO. Gianforte is exceeding his 2016 showing nearly everyehere while Quist is running behind where Bullock was then. That’s not good for your side. You really should take a remecial math course.

  98. Tina says:

The reporter also was so hostile that he showed a potential weapon in the politicians face.

So, while he may have not handled the situation correctly, there is enough grey there.

  99. BennSue says:

but more dominate win than that I’d say the D effort in Montana would grade an “F”

  100. Proud Obamacon says:

Current returns are in line with a 5 point loss which is fine. HOWEVER, election vote today COULD be different than election day vote in 2016 because of the slam, or it might not.

  101. Wes says:

    No argument here, Robbie.

  102. Proud Obamacon says:

“Good luck with that, PO. Gianforte is exceeding his 2016 showing nearly everyehere while Quist is running behind where Bullock was then”

Bullock won by 4. What’s your point?

  103. BennSue says:

considering how much they focused on this race, and still lost, and with a loss in Georgia to come, where are the Democrats going to look to for hope?

  104. Tina says:

This race was closing up untik a few weeks ago and stalled over imoeachment. Alamgate had no imoact either way.

  105. DW says:

Proud Obamacon shows up to take another loss on the chin.

  106. Mad Dog says:

Proud Obamacon really needs to get back on his meds.

  107. Tina says:

  112. Trump says:

Body slamming a journalist should be a qualification for a candidate.

    A public service of sorts.

  113. Proud Obamacon says:

Hey, these seats are not supposed to be competitive! Yall forget that we lost his seat by 15 points just a few nonths ago. Now yall gotta sweat this one out.

We have a good chance at GA-6 which Price won by 20+ points.

  114. Tina says:

Surprised that the r did not have two bodyguards that could pick up the toothpick and break him outside.

  115. Wes says:

$6 million in MONTANA got you a loss against a guy who bodyslammed a reporter the day before the election, PO.

Spin that as a good thing if you like.

You won’t have that kind of money for every compeyiyive race next year.

  116. Mad Dog says:

I favor tar and feathering myself.

  117. brucefdb says:

96 ya got me Obama, I just pop in….glad your losing again tho.

  118. DW says:

Dems have been great at throwing away money in recent years. Look at all those millions thrown away for senseless recounts in WI, MI and PA last November.

  119. Wes says:

You lost by 15 to an incumbent in a year when Trump throttled Hillary in Montana, PO. You poured $6 million into the special and still lost.

    As I sau, good luvk.

6 million prolly a bit mire than that, for a montana house seat?

You guys are nuts. Keep pushing impeachment though i think there is an unnamed source who is friends with comey’s third cousin.

  123. Trump says:

I say body slamming, you say tar and feather.

    Let’s settle for both.

  124. Robbie says:

    Quist was a terrible candidate.

I’m surprised Democrats didn’t re-run the candidate who they put up against Zinke last November.

Tester got her to run thinking she could knock of Zinke and make his Senate run easier.

  125. Waingro says:

Looks like there is a lull now in Election Day results coming in.

  126. Mad Dog says:

    DW:

  127. Wes says:

Don’t forget the failed 2012 Walker recall, DW.

  128. Tina says:

You shoukd direct your anger at the drat leadership. This race was going your way up until the last couple of weeks, when you offerd more muh russia bs and impeachment.

  129. Waingro says:

    Now up 2 points.

  130. Cash Cow TM says:

All of the counties on the MT election map that are blue (D) right now–(which is 4 counties)?

That is about all the counties that will be blue at the end of the counting. That is what my MT cow peeps tell me.

  131. Proud Obamacon says:

Of course I would have loved a win, but it was never realistic. I’ll take the swing and the enthusiasm is on our side. We will do great in CDs that are purple.

Remember this is a red district. So is GA-6.

  132. Tina says:

But your leadership with alsheumer piglosi and stupey schumah keep going down that road.

  133. Wes says:

    For PO:

#MTAL – MONTANA RESULTS: 16 counties partially in. Those counties voted 54-43% for Bullock over Gianforte. G tied 47-47% tonight.

  134. Mad Dog says:

    Yeah, and Trump’s still President.

  135. DW says:

  136. Phil says:

  137. Cash Cow TM says:

I am getting some disturbing reports that there was a big movement of Canadians crossing in to vote in the extreme northern tier of MT counties…

  138. SanDiegoCitizen says:

    99. The punishment for misdemeanor assault in Montana is probably like a twenty dollar fine and a prohibition from using your AR-15 at the practice range on weekdays for a month.

  141. Proud Obamacon says:

And that is in line with a 5pt loss which is what I’ve been saying (actually <5pts based on your numbers). Don't know what point you are making. We are basically agreeing.

  142. Tina says:

Why should he plead thAT, SDC. It gets dismissed since the ibama reporter was hostike and had a potential weapon that was shoved in the guys face.

    Do not settle.

  143. Mad Dog says:

  348. Cash Cow TM says:

last D stronghold that still has a lot of precincts out is Missoula.

The other D counties have just about all votes in.

D winning Missoula right now by 11,000.
R won Yellowstone (Billings) by 10,000.

D margin in Missoula will probably end up being 13-14,000. Not enough to change the outcome.

  349. SanDiegoCitizen says:

Wondering on the delay in Missoula. Suspicious.

  360. SanDiegoCitizen says:

Galatin often goes Democratic, some of the resort counties do as well. Not sure if Glacier is one of them. If I remember correctly, a couple other counties in Montana often went Democratic.

  361. Cash Cow TM says:

    Vote totals in

    R 20,066

  363. Cash Cow TM says:

  364. SanDiegoCitizen says:

What makes Montana different is it does not have a major urban center like the other western states — the Boise, Salt Lake City, Denver, Las Vegas metropolitan areas dominate their states. Montana has a bunch of small cities. Wyoming is like it.

    Missoula
    Glacier
    Deer Lodge
    Silver Bow
    Gallatin
    Big Horn

All are going for the D this time, plus Park and Carbon (both went big for DJT in 2016) and Roosevelt and Blaine (DJT very narrowly won the last two in 2016).

  367. SanDiegoCitizen says:

No wonder he had Bernie Sanders campaign for him isntead of Hillary.

  372. Cash Cow TM says:

R is ahead by 25,000 votes.

  373. SanDiegoCitizen says:

    375. Blackfoot, Idaho has a potato museum also.

  374. SanDiegoCitizen says:

Hill county: D narrowly wins there (2,073-2,056)
Blaine co: D wins by 17 votes
Roosevelt co: D wins by 106 votes

Big Horn and Carbon counties ended up going R. (Big Horn by 62 votes)

  387. Wes says:

Sean Trende has a piece indicating the implications of yesterday’s election are at best ambiguous. In that, I concur. GA-6 will likely give us a stronger indication of the prevailing political winds–especially if it flips.

Thus far, the trend has been this:

A flawed Republican runs against a well-funded leftist Dem in a GOP-friendly district. The Republican wins by a reduced margin from the norm.

If Handel wins, it probably indicates Trump is not a significant drag on the party. If Ossoff wins, then Dems are likely in a decent position to reclaim the House next year.

  388. Cash Cow TM says:

    Glacier in.
    Went D as Cow predicted.

Cow hit the cow pie on the head with his predictions that:

    –R would win comfortably

–D would win not many more than 6 counties

–Missoula county D margin would be 13-14,000.

–Glacier county would be the hind tit in reporting votes

  389. Wes says:

To be fair, Bitter, MD might as well have been a Kos poster for years now. In 2014, he repeatedly predicted Dems would retain the Senate and make big gains in governorships because “the past is not prologue!” He’s no longer the intelligent psephologist he once was.

  390. Chicon says:

I don’t know if it is all so dependent on one race, Wes. If Handel wins by a small margin, Trump’s no issue; if she loses by a small margin, the House is at serious risk? Sounds too extreme to me.

  391. Cash Cow TM says:

Now they have Big Horn county back to the D winning narrowly (@ 150 vote margin)…

Big Horn and Roosevelt are both D country with big # of Injun votes.

  392. Wes says:

Obviously there’s more going on than that, Chicon. Even so, a GOP victory provides no momentum to the Dems while Ossoff by winning gives a narrative and momentum as well as increased likelihood of large check writing from leftist donors. Spending $30 million on three winnable races against flawed Republicans doesn’t exactly inspire confidence in the out-of-power party and its activists.

  393. Chicon says:

So, Gravis was off by 8. It seems the Slammer outperformed the other experts, though, despite the slamming of the reporter.

  395. Cash Cow TM says:

  396. Bitterlaw (Trump sucks but Hillary would be worse) says:

Wes – I wish that MD had given an explanation for his predictions other than the “past is not prologue” comment. I agree with the point that the past is a guide but not a guarantor of future results.

A sports analogy would be predicting that Tom Brady will lose the Super Bowl because the past is not prologue. Well, unless Brady plays the Giants, you need a better argument to count him out.

  397. Chicon says:

Agree it is important, Wes, but many here say she’s a poor candidate. How does one figure out whether a loss is on her, or on Trump?

  398. Bitterlaw (Trump sucks but Hillary would be worse) says:

I don’t know if running on Neville Chamberlain’s appeasement platform will help Labour.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4544384/Corbyn-faces-backlash-bid-exploit-Manchester-bomb.html

  399. Bitterlaw (Trump sucks but Hillary would be worse) says:

The Dems will be as excited by a Georgia win as Republicans were about Scott Brown’s victory in Mass. Whether it has greater meaning will have to wait until 2018.

  400. Waingro says:

” If Handel wins, it probably indicates Trump is not a significant drag on the party. If Ossoff wins, then Dems are likely in a decent position to reclaim the House next year.”

I like Trende a lot. His 2014 model NAILED the midterms that year despiet much scorn and criticism from other “non partisan” prognosticators. But that seems like a very simplistic/conclusory opinion based on one special election.

Remember Trump only won GA-6 by 1 point in an area full of more affluent/college educated suburbanite Republicans who Trump did poorly with.

So even IF the GA-6 special is a reaction to Trump, I’m not sure we can take the result alone as evidence of what is likeely to come in 2018, where there the makeups of many other CD’s at play are not quite the same.

Having said that, I hope Handel ekes this out either way!

  401. Wes says:

Chicon, I analogize GA-6 to the 2010 MA special Scott Brown won. Despite being state AG, Martha Coakley was a bad candidate who assumed victory prematurely. Republicans quietly nominated their best candidate in Scott Brown and stoked the nascent flames of resentment toward Obama and the Dems because of a poor economy and the Banana Republic-style tactics used to pass Obamacare to pull off the upset.

Had Coakley been a better candidate, Brown likely would have made it close but still lost. As it was, an extraordinary perfect storm of events let Brown beat Coakley.

A similar perfect storm would be needed for Ossoff to win. If that were to happen, then Dems would have momentum they currently lack going into 2018.

  402. Waingro says:

Btw, Trende’s interactive 2018 Senate tool is pretty cool. Even if you put Trump at 33% approval, it still has the GOP holding on most likely with 50 seats.

    http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2017/05/15/preview_2018_senate_results_with_rcps_interactive_tool.html

  403. Phil says:

Yeah, I have refrained from commenting on any of the stuff MD has been quoted as saying of late. Still am hesitant to do so. He was always thoughtful and well reasoned when he was over here. I agreed with him almost always. That said, he sounds more and more like Joe Scarborough every day. With Joe, I kind of get it. He has to worry about Mika cutting him off so I am thinking that accounts for the leftist drivel coming out of Joe’s mouth.

  404. Bitterlaw (Trump sucks but Hillary would be worse) says:

Phil – I truly considered MD a friend. We are still friends on FB. I only discuss sports and hid daughter’s college search with him. He has noting but contempt for HHR now. He views me as either a traitor or a failure. To me, he is the biggest casualty of 2016.

  405. MichiganGuy says:

MD was a pompous a$$. Good riddance!!!

  406. janz says:

MD was a strong minded poster, IMO, during the time I knew him on HHR. If he agreed with someone, all was good. However, if he disagreed with even hues of another’s perspective, then you became “bad,” and someone worthy of being relentlessly bad-mouthed. I find such inflexibility troubling.

In fact much of MD’s caustic attitude was reminiscent of the qualities I find equally troubling about our current POTUS – the very individual MD railed against, and whose successful candidacy caused his ego-driven persona to leave this blog.

  407. janz says:

Also, regarding last night’s special election, I thought Gianforte made the right move to apologize for his body-slamming behavior. Nonetheless, whether or not such an apology was made, his body-slamming reputation will follow him into Congress for some time to come.

  408. Wes says:

    431. Sorry. Meant Justice Dept. FBI cannot indict

  427. Wes says:

Jonesy, McCain, Boehner, Sasse, and Co. fouhht Obama all the time.

For instance, Boehner kept Obama from stacking the courts with recess appointees by keeping the House in session almost permanently to ensure the Senate could never go out of session long enough for Obama to make a recess appointment.

Because of this, when Obama tried to declare himself overlord of the Senate’s schedule in 2014, the Supreme Court ruled 9-0 against the then-President.

Certainly congressional Republicans could have been more aggressive in fighting Obama; however, it’s a fallacy to try to argue they attack Trump with more gusto than Obama.

  428. Wes says:

After drowning Mary Jo Kopechne, Ted Kennedy received a two-month suspended jail sentence. He served 40 more years in the Senate, attempting to rape a waitress in a restaurant years later.

  429. Walt says:

    Bitter,

I am reading a book a friend of mine wrote about the brick plant at the little hamlet of North Mountain, WV (about a mile from the town of Hedgesville where I grew up).

The brick plant started in 1909 and make bricks that were used all over the east coast and was in operation until about 1970.

Interestingly, they were used in building the court House in Philly, as well as the National Institute of Health in Washington D.C., the RCA building in NJ, and tons of other places.

So when you go into or pass by the Court House in Philly, think of WV and the men who labored to produce those bricks.

I never worked there, but cashed the weekly paychecks of many of the men (some not much older than me) who did work there.
    *****************************************
Many of these men who began working there in 1909 had fathers, uncles or other relatives who fought for the South in the Civil War. So manybe you will never look at the Philly Court House the same way now… 🙂

  430. SanDiegoCitizen says:

    429. Oh please, the guy was trespassing on Gianforte’s private property, and pushing a microphone in his face. Gianforte should sue him and the Guardian.

  431. Wes says:

  432. Jonesy says:

Wes, very valid points, but you must admit McCain was a wimp in the 2008 Race. and what use is it for a retired Speaker to trash a new POTUS from his own party to the media?

Sasse has been in the Senate for a cup of Coffee. I am just sick and tired of the GOP not uniting to move this agenda. We have a gift of all power, but the GOP mavericks want the cameras and the NYT to like them

Yeah, but he, like almost every other “non-partisan” polling prognosticator missed big time on the 2016 election.

He has provided very good analysis and predictions in previously cycles, so I’ll give him a mulligan on that one. Still a great read.

  436. Jonesy says:

    441. Fair Enough Wain. RCP is no gold standard anymore for sure.

  439. lisab says:

  440. SanDiegoCitizen says:

So that I understand this: Despite spending millions of dollars; organizing major campaigns; and Trump’s supposed disastrous start to his presidency (just ask Robbie). The Democrats are 0-3 in winning special elections. These were open seats without incumbents.

However in 2018, this will all change in a twinkling of an eye, and the Democrats will defeat enough Republican incumbents to win the House.

  448. SanDiegoCitizen says:

    Oh No!

U.S.News & World Report ran an article about the Democrats not winning special elections. Trolls!! Come back and refute this.

“The media narrative for the Republican Party in 2017 has teetered between dark and darker. A White House on the brink. A GOP Congress at war with itself. A slate of underperforming or uninspiring contenders.

And yet, the Democrats still aren’t winning.

In the three opportunities they’ve had to deliver a brushback to Trump through special U.S. House elections, they’ve failed. These districts are undoubtedly conservative-leaning, having not been held by a Democrat for decades, and in one case, Democrats still have a shot to flip a seat in Georgia next month.

But for all the raised expectations on the left and the hand-wringing on the right, the results have been the same, underscoring just how difficult it will be for the minority party to claw its way back into power. Trump is weakened, but far from vanquished. Republican candidates may be flawed, but their loyal constituencies are showing up to bail them out – if only to rebut the narrative they’re constantly hearing permeate out of Washington.”

Not to mention Nancy Pelosi, 15-0 in congressional elections, the most “accomplished” woman politician in American history.

  459. Wes says:

Trump’s hitting the sauce, I see.

No one used the word “accomplished.” The word was “worst.”

By definition, a bad candidate is one who underperforms or loses. Worse and worst are the comparative forms of bad.

McCain is certainly not a bad candidate since he’s never won a race by less than double digits in his entire 34 years of seeking seats in either House or Senate.

Whether McCain is an accomplished legislator is a separate issue from whether he’s a good candidate.

I’m not surprised Trump–who knew exactly nothing about the politics of his own putative home state last year–would not know the meaning or context of the statements made and try to refute an argument not even advanced on the blog.

  460. Trump says:

    – The contact, in my mind, is not a big deal. Lots of administrations have hoped to establish back channels. What could (I did use could) make it a big story is Kushner is being “scrutinized” (an odd word) by the FBI over his contacts with Russia.

Stories this past week suggested Kushner encouraged Trump to fire Comey. While unlikely, the investigators may try to argue Kushner encouraged Trump to fire Comey because Kushner was worried about his own dealings with Russia. I’m not making that cause, but it’s why I used the word “could”.

Again, I think the Russia story is garbage, but Scooter Libby got nailed for having nothing to do with leaking Valerie Plame’s name. Once they guys start looking, they almost always indict someone.

Since Bunning entered the Senate on 1-3-99, no Democrat has won a Senate race in Kentucky though Dan Mongiardo came close to unseating Bunning in 2004.

The 1998 Senate freshman class, of which Bunning was part, was unusual in being exactly evenly balanced with four Republicans and four Democrats. Of the eight freshman Senators elected that year, only two remain: Mike Crapo (R-ID) and Chuck Schumer (D-NY).

  544. SanDiegoCitizen says:

It is incredible the hypocrisy of Merkel attacking Trump on climate change.

In 2016 Germany’s carbon emissions were the highest EVER. The reason is Germany is phasing out its nuclear plants, which produce no carbon emissions, and replacing them with coal for baseline power. Wind and solar, which German is famed for, only produce only part-time power – maybe 16% of the total. About 44% of German’s power is from coal.

The U.S. by contrast has reduced carbon emissions to its lowest level in 25 years. There was a 12% reduction from 2005; a reduction of 1.7% in 2016 alone. This is because of the switch from coal to natural gas in the U.S.

And don’t think for a minute Germany will raise its defense spending as a percentage of their budget to our level — apparently Merkel believes it is the U.S. obligation to spend more to protect Germany than they do themselves.

Hope that Trump pulls the U.S. out of the Paris Climate Treaty, which Obama signed and was never approved by Congress.

  545. Wes says:

I’m pretty sure Trump voted for himself in 2008 and 2012, Bunu.

That’s more than L. Ron Paul can say. He’s 0-101 in statewide primaries including his landslide loss to Phil Gramm in 1984 and 0-50 in statewide general elections after his laughworthy run for President as a Libertarisn in 1988.

  546. Wes says:

Late in my father’s life when he was very infirm, I called Bunning’s Senate Office, chatted with Bunning’s staff about that day and asked that Bunning call my father to boost his spirits. Bunning did so within hours and I saw my father smile for the first time in months after their brief conversation.

  594. Wes says:

    Something else Bitterlaw believes:

The fact that no WMDs ever surfaced after the 2003 invasion of Iraq is absolute proof that Saddam moved his supposed armaments under the watchful eye of US satellites and intelligence to a secret place where we still have been unable to find them.

  595. Bitterlaw (Trump sucks but Hillary would be worse) says:

Something Wes refuses to believe – The intelligence agencies of the US, UK, France, Germany, and Israel ALL said that Saddam Hussein had WMDs.

  596. lisab says:

“Seth Rich was murdered and it had nothing to do with Wikileaks or politics.”

it certainly could have been about wikileaks though … it certainly does not appear to be a robbery

there are enough crazy hillary supporters that might kill someone if they thought he handed hillary’s emails to wikileaks

that does not mean anyone ordered the killing

or that he actually did send anything to wikileaks

if people thought he did, that could get him killed

  598. Bitterlaw (Trump sucks but Hillary would be worse) says:

    Something else Wes believes:

American slavery was not evil. It was merely “wrong.”

And another thing Wes refuses to admit:

If Lincoln had not conducted the war to win by keeping the border states in the Union, the Confederacy would have won the war and slavery would have continued for decades.

  599. lisab says:

    hillary might run again!

    i think she wants too

  600. lisab says:

lincoln certainly advocated for the 13th amendment, so what more could he do?

at the time states’ rights was still a thing, he could not simply have ended slavery by executive order

  601. wvally says:

My father’s book JFK and Vietnam was just re-released. He proved Kennedy was about to pull out of Vietnam right before he was assassinated. Here is a summary and some quotes of praise, including from William Colby (director of CIA under bush, who also died mysteriously) and Arthur Schlesinger.

    https://jfkjmn.com/acclamation

My fathers work was also cited by Robert McNamara in his final memoir.

Of course, the fact that Kennedy was pulling out of Vietnam just before he died and Johnson subsequently reversed corse doesn’t mean Oswald didn’t act alone.

And if Seth Rich was the source of DNC leaks, it doesn’t mean he wasn’t randomly shot. Lots of coincidences in life.

  602. Bitterlaw (Trump sucks but Hillary would be worse) says:

Vietnam is a great “What if?” If the US had pulled out in 1964, South Vietnam would have been taken over 10 or 11 years earlier but more than 50,000 Americans would have lived. Would Japan have been imperiled or would the US have said, “You can have the crappy countries of SE Asia but that’s it.”

LBJ would have run again in 1968. Maybe Nixon loses. No Nixon. No Carter. No Carter. Maybe no Reagan. Interesting but all speculation.

  603. wvally says:

Bitter that was one of my son’s questions on his History final–how would history have been different if the US hadn’t gone to war in Vietnam. I think you got farther with it than he did.

  604. Bitterlaw (Trump sucks but Hillary would be worse) says:

WV – Did I read the summary correctly? Did your dad think that the CIA was behind the assassination of Kennedy?

  605. Bitterlaw (Trump sucks but Hillary would be worse) says:

Without the Vietnam war, no need for Woodstock and the hippies all become normal. Probably no disco. San Francisco probably doesn’t totally get whacked out and no Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi.

  606. wvally says:

No, he doesn’t think “the CIA” was behind it. Oswald had a long and complex relationship with the CIA, detailed in my fathers 2nd book, Oswald and the CIA. In that book, he explained the history, and how after the assassination people in the CIA started covering things up–not because they were part of a conspiracy to assassinate Kennedy, but because they were freaking out that an asset they’d used in Cuba operations had killed Kennedy.

He definitely does not believe the lone wolf theory on Oswald, but would not support the idea of a government wide conspiracy.

  607. wvally says:

When I say covering things up, I refer to internal CIA memos about Oswald from prior to the assassination. Nothing to do w Dealy plaza.

  608. Cash Cow TM says:

Cow believes that Oswald also killed Elvis.

Speaking of which Facebook has the usual inordinate amount of pictures lately about graduation, food, animals and political related false links.

But in the last several days there was an interesting spike in number of posts and pictures about Elvis. Which proves….well, something.

  609. Wes says:

Something Bitterlaw pretends not to notice:

There were no WMDs, and every country stating otherwise had a reason to say Saddam had WMDs, especially Israel, which Saddam had previously threatened to destroy, and the US, whose President’s fayher Saddam had ordered a hit on.

  610. Cash Cow TM says:

    Elvis Presley

    sly ripe elves
    E pliers levys

    ye verse spill

  611. Bitterlaw (Trump sucks but Hillary would be worse) says:

Why did the UK, France and Germany say that Iraq had WMDs, Wes? Can we at least agree on these points?

    1. Saddam had used WMDs in the past?

    2. Saddam had the ability to make WMDs whenever he wanted.

    3. Even if he did not have WMDs in 2002, points 1 and 2 prove that he was a threat and he could use WMDs in the future.

  612. wvally says:

    Chaquatta, NY? LOL

  613. Wes says:

    Two other things Bitterlaw believes:

    1) Despite patently refusing to mention it or endorse it during the 1864 campaign, Lincoln unilaterally ended slavery by passing the 13th Amendment. Apparently the Congressmen, Senators, and State Legislators who voted on the amendment had no role in its adoption despite the fact that the Constitution gives them sole power over adoption of constitutional amendments while the President has exactly no formal role in amending the Constitution.

    2) Adhering to what the Constitution says means engaging in a suicide pact that will destroy the country.

I’m beginning to think given his utter contempt for following what the Constitution says and determination to defend the use of extraconstitutional and unconstitutional powers by Presidents he likes, Bitterlaw would have been more at home in Papa Doc Duvalier’s Haiti or some 1960s-era South American banana republic than here in the US.

  614. Wes says:

    1) Saddam had used WMDs on people 8,000 miles away from the US 12 years before the Iraq War.

    2) Cite proof he could make them again after his 1991 humiliation.

    3) When had Saddam ever been a legitimate threat to the US?

He was no Hitler, who declared war on us and started attacking our military, or Yojo, who had dond the same thing.

Thus, what threat did Saddam pose to the US?

  615. Wes says:

    Tojo*

  616. Bitterlaw (Trump sucks but Hillary would be worse) says:

Poor Wes. His love of the slave-owning South actually prevents him giving credit to Lincoln for the end of American slavery. he actually lies and says that I do know that the 13th Amendment ended slavery. Somehow, he must believe that the 13th Amendment would have magically appeared if Lincoln was not fighting the Confederacy and that his beloved slave-owners would have just decided on their own to end slavery in 1861 if Lincoln had not meddled.

I am beginning to think that Wes’ constant attacks on Lincoln and apologies for the Confederacy and the mere wrong of slavery means that he wished the South had won and really has no problem with its way of life, economy or “peculiar institution.” Wes is dedicated to the purity of the pre-13th Amendment Constitution. Ending American slavery gets a Zzzzzzzzzzz from him.

  617. Bitterlaw (Trump sucks but Hillary would be worse) says:

Don’t dance, Wes. It is a very simple question. Should the Confederacy been permitted to secede and slavery been allowed to continue for decades?

I say “No.” I also say that New England did not have a right to secede earlier in the 19th century.

  618. Wes says:

You’re actually the one lying, Bitter. You said Lincoln ended slavery. In fact, Congress and the State Legislatures ended it with the 13th Amendment–which Lincoln refused to either endorse or mention during his 1864 reelection campaign.

I have not, and I do not, attack Lincoln. In fact, I’ve gone on record on this blog saying his death at Boothe’s hands was a tragedy, and Boothe deserved a brutal public execution for his heinous crime.

You can count pointing out Lincoln was a flawed human being rather than the infallible God you, Corey, and Jason want to bukkake as an attack, but it is merely a reflection of reality.

I do repeatedly and savagely attack GWB, but he was a failed, incompetent, inarticulate President who failed utterly at his job and deserves nothing but my utmost contempt.

  619. Wes says:

Slavery should not have continued for decades, but the South had the right to secede. The 10th Amendment implicitly grants the right by saying rights not granted to the federal government or forbidden to the states are reserved to the states, or to the people. Nowhere does the Constitution forbid states the right to secede, thus putting it within the purview of the 10th Amendment.

  620. Wes says:

Noteworthily, Bitter, I never bring this subject up–largely because the South lost the war 152 years ago. You are the one absolutely obsessed with that particular time period. If I genuinely felt as passionately as you pretend about the Civil War, then I’d bting it up. I never do and only respond to your mentions.

That slone should tell you something.

  621. Bitterlaw (Trump sucks but Hillary would be worse) says:

And Congress simply would have woken up in 1865 and said, “Hey! Let’s end slavery today.” without anything to do with Lincoln?

Lincoln was not perfect. he obviously failed to order that his wife’s traitorous family be rounded up and hanged as traitors but it was a busy time and he had other things to do.

  622. Bitterlaw (Trump sucks but Hillary would be worse) says:

Is that why you posted this?

  623. Wes says:

You are aware there were abolitionists in Congress before and during the war who had been working for years to end it with a constitutional amendment, Bitter?

    Oh, wait.

That would require research and knowledge of history.

    My mistake.

I apologize for trying to give you undeserved credit.

    It won’t happen again.

  624. Jonesy says:

Wes in terms of Saddam, the thing that Bush put and his people over the top, was the bounty and rewards he offered for anyone bombing Israeli Buses. 25k I believe.

There was a wave of School buses that got hit before the Iraq launch

  625. Wes says:

That was called a joke, Bitter, based on your obsession.

Had I been trying to start a discussion about the war rather thsn poking fun at you for your obsession, I would have pointed out the myriad of logicsl fallacies posted by you about both Lincoln snd the war.

  626. Bitterlaw (Trump sucks but Hillary would be worse) says:

Slavery should not have continued for decades, but the South had the right to secede.

But supporting the right to secede means you have to own the consequence of that secession. You have to know that the newly independent CSA would have kept its slaves for decades.

  627. Jonesy says:

John Brown, and his crazy killers did nothing to stop a impending Civil War.

Like I have said before. The Union army was just as racist as the Rebels. The only ones who wanted slavery by 1860, were the wealthy land owners.

  628. Wes says:

That was Israel’s problem, Jonesy. They had done a good job of taking out his nuclear reactors in 1981. We didn’t need to be embroiled in a ficusless war that ultimately rnded in having ISIS run rampant in Iraq.

  632. Jonesy says:

  635. Wes says:

Actually various laws had been passed restricting the expansion of slavery. Full emancipation hadn’t occurred yet, but it would have happened eventually as public opinion had become significantly anti-slavery over time.

You act as if Lincoln alone achieved emancipation when even people alive at the time said he was at best a cog in a wheel.

  636. Jonesy says:

What is the History of Merkel. Was her Father a member of East german secret police? Grandfather A nazi?

  637. Bitterlaw (Trump sucks but Hillary would be worse) says:

but it would have happened eventually as public opinion had become significantly anti-slavery over time.

Not in the South. They started the war, not Lincoln. They had no interest in Emancipation any time soon.

  638. BayernFan says:

I don’t like it that anti-German sentiment goes straight to Nazi history. There are other reasons to be wary of German power in Europe. It’s geopolitical strategy was borne of being surrounded by France and Russia, two powers which formed alliances against Germany. NATO defused that by as someone said “keeping Germany down, the Russians out, and the Americans in.”

    http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/gadgets-and-tech/news/theresa-may-internet-conservatives-government-a7744176.html

“Theresa May is planning to introduce huge regulations on the way the internet works, allowing the government to decide what is said online.

Particular focus has been drawn to the end of the manifesto, which makes clear that the Tories want to introduce huge changes to the way the internet works.

“Some people say that it is not for government to regulate when it comes to technology and the internet,” it states. “We disagree.”

Senior Tories confirmed to BuzzFeed News that the phrasing indicates that the government intends to introduce huge restrictions on what people can post, share and publish online.

The plans will allow Britain to become “the global leader in the regulation of the use of personal data and the internet”, the manifesto claims.

It comes just soon after the Investigatory Powers Act came into law. That legislation allowed the government to force internet companies to keep records on their customers’ browsing histories, as well as giving ministers the power to break apps like WhatsApp so that messages can be read.”

Resolved, That as slavery was the cause, and now constitutes the strength of this Rebellion, and as it must be, always and everywhere, hostile to the principles of Republican Government, justice and the National safety demand its utter and complete extirpation from the soil of the Republic; and that, while we uphold and maintain the acts and proclamations by which the Government, in its own defense, has aimed a deathblow at this gigantic evil, we are in favor, furthermore, of such an amendment to the Constitution, to be made by the people in conformity with its provisions, as shall terminate and forever prohibit the existence of Slavery within the limits of the jurisdiction of the United States.”

    #664 whoops, sorry, cross posted

but it certainly was part of lincoln’s platorm

here is the link to the newspaper

    https://www.loc.gov/resource/lprbscsm.scsm0249/?sp=1

strangely, it was also printed in german,

    perhaps for german immigrants?

  650. Wes says:

Actually in ponit of fact, the national GOP called for the abolition of slavery as early as 1856. That wasn’t my point. Lincoln neither mentioned nor campaigned on the 13th Amendment in 1864 though Congress began debating it then.

In fact the GOP Congress passed the amendment in late 18864 with Lincoln subsequently signing it though the Constitution expressly says the President’s signature is unnecessary for amendment ratification. It then went to the states and achieved ratification late in 1865.

None of this changes what I was informing Bitter of:

    1) Congress and the state legislatures–not Lincoln–passed the 13th Amendment.

    2) Lincoln never even mentioned the amendment while seeking reelection even though Congress was debating it at the time.

Bitterlaw really should pick up a history book sometime.

  651. Bitterlaw says:

I never said that Lincoln passed the 13th Amendment. I said that he did put the Union in position to finally end slavery through his overwhelming defeat of the South. Wes would prefer that slavery had continued but, thankfully, Lincoln prevailed.

Wes to pretend that I said something I never said in 3…2…1…

  652. Bitterlaw says:

lisab – I would assume that it was printed in German for places with German immigrant voters like Pennsylvania, New York, etc.

  653. SanDiegoCitizen says:

    Donald J. Trump? @realDonaldTrump

“Does anyone notice how the Montana Congressional race was such a big deal to Dems & Fake News until the Republican won? V was poorly covered.”

  654. SanDiegoCitizen says:

Even the NYT’s Maureen Dowd is realizing what a narcissist loser Obama was.

“As TMZ put it Friday, when it published pictures of Obama grinning and golfing at St. Andrews in Scotland: “Barack Obama’s not just on vacation — he’s on the most EPIC vacay, and it’s starting to feel like he’s rubbing it in your face.”

If everything is as dire as Democrats say, if the very Republic is in peril and the leader of the free world is unstable, if President Trump is trying to trample on Obama’s legacy and gut Medicaid and rip up the social safety net, why is Obama acting so jolly and carefree?

Publications have worn out the word “luxe” describing Obama’s new jet-setting, kitesurfing, paddleboarding, golfing, memoir-writing, buckraking life. It is odd to watch the ex-president avoid any direct criticism of Trump while Democratic officials and former Obama advisers tweet and cable-chat all day, every day about Trump being a danger to democracy.

It’s a resistance in search of a leader.

  655. SanDiegoCitizen says:

Good grief. Poor France. To blather out about a handshake is infantile:

“PARIS (AP) — French President Emmanuel Macron says his now famous white-knuckle handshake showdown with U.S. counterpart Donald Trump was “a moment of truth” — designed to show that he’s no pushover.

Macron told a Sunday newspaper in France that “my handshake with him, it wasn’t innocent.”

Macron added: “One must show that you won’t make small concessions, even symbolic ones, but also not over-publicize things, either.”

  658. SanDiegoCitizen says:

Meanwhile, Pelosi finds it offensive that Trump asked our European allies to pay their fair share.
And the Democrats wonder why they lost the blue collar vote last year?

“House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Sunday blasted President Trump after a speech he gave last week scolding NATO allies for not paying their fair share for defense.

“President Trump’s brash and condescending lecture to NATO leaders disrespected our closest allies and dishonored the common defense pact that has been a guarantor of global security for nearly seven decades,” Pelosi said in a statement.

“His failure to affirm America’s commitment to NATO’s mutual defense pledge — invoked only once, when NATO allies rushed to our side in Afghanistan after 9/11 — is not only shameful but also dangerous. By showing his disregard for Article Five, President Trump emboldens Russian aggression in Europe.”

    2) Lincoln never even mentioned the amendment while seeking reelection even though Congress was debating it at the time.
    ——————————————

    actually he did …

lincoln specifically wanted it in the platform.

    “Gentlemen of the Committee.

I will neither conceal my gratification, nor restrain the expression of my gratitude, that the Union people, through their Convention, in their continued effort to save, and advance the nation, have deemed me not unworthy to remain in my present position.

I know no reason to doubt that I shall accept the nomination tendered; and yet perhaps I should not declare definitely before reading and considering what is called the Platform.

I will say now, however, I approve the declaration in favor of so amending the Constitution as to prohibit slavery throughout the nation. When the people in revolt, with a hundred days of explicit notice, that they could, within those days, resume their allegiance, without the overthrow of their institution, and that they could not so resume it afterwards, elected to stand out, such amendment of the Constitution as now proposed, became a fitting, and necessary conclusion to the final success of the Union cause. Such alone can meet and cover all cavils. Now, the unconditional Union men, North and South, perceive its importance, and embrace it. In the joint name of Liberty and Union, let us labor to give it legal form, and practical effect.”

What is the History of Merkel. Was her Father a member of East german secret police? Grandfather A nazi?

Germans should be the last nation to question anyone’s moral authority

    – Are you familiar with Trump’s father? There’s quite a bit of evidence he participated in KKK violence against Catholics in the 1920’s in NYC. In fact, he was one of seven men arrested that day in 1927.

So before you go casting stones at Merkel’s lineage because you don’t like her immigration policy or what she says about Trump, you had best review Trump’s lineage because his father had a checkered past as well.

My guess is you don’t think Trump should be held accountable for his father’s actions so why should Merkel?

“Mara told Jenny Vrentas of TheMMQB.com that the Giants didn’t discuss signing Kaepernick this offseason, and that they’ve heard from many fans who would be angry if they did.

“All my years being in the league, I never received more emotional mail from people than I did about that issue,” Mara said. “If any of your players ever do that, we are never coming to another Giants game. It wasn’t one or two letters. It was a lot. It’s an emotional, emotional issue for a lot of people, moreso than any other issue I’ve run into.”

The Giants signed kicker Josh Brown to a new contract after he was arrested for domestic violence, and kept him on the team last year after he was suspended for domestic violence. It’s extraordinary that Mara says he heard from more fans about Kaepernick — a player on another team, who didn’t do anything illegal — than about Brown.

Mara’s comments say a lot about Kaepernick’s continuing unemployment: For many teams, the decision not to sign Kaepernick may go beyond whether the coach or G.M. think Kaepernick can help on the field. It may go up to the owner, who fears Kaepernick would hurt the franchise off the field.”

Here we go, to Bitterlaw’s point.

Lawyer for guy who shot someone 16-19 times will claim “medical malpractice” killed the victim, not bullets.

“After the hearing, Enix’s attorney, Patrick Patel, said he believes the autopsy report will be critical in the case.

Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor Leo Hernandez said Washington was shot 16 to 19 times.

“He was allegedly shot 19 times but he lived for two weeks plus, and the information I have is that prior to surgery the man was alert and speaking to family,” Patel said. “So it may be a situation in which there was medical malpractice which contributed to his death.”

I think C is the answer and B gets attempted murdered but that class was 26 years ago.

  737. SanDiegoCitizen says:

Interesting argument, the one difference I can see is in 760 the person who shot the victim was intending to kill him. The doctors were attempt to save the life of the person in 751. They may be guilty of negligence, but not murder. Don’t know if you can shift that blame in that situation.

    Abstract

Within a 12-year period ending in March 1984, 1109 patients with penetrating thoracic injuries were treated at King-Drew Medical Center located in south central Los Angeles. The average age of the patients was 28.1 years. There were 607 stab wounds and 502 gunshot wounds. Antibiotic prophylaxis was prescribed only for the 428 patients who had laparotomy, thoracotomy, and pulmonary contusion with hemoptysis. Of the 1109 patients, 105 had cardiac injuries. All patients with cardiac trauma underwent thoracotomy, and the mortality rate was 18.1%. Specifically, the mortality rate of gunshot wound of the heart 24.5% and that of stab wound of the heart, 11.5%.

  775. jason says:

  776. lisab says:

According to the World Health Organization, falls are the second leading cause of accidental deaths worldwide, behind road traffic injuries. Falls cause approximately 424,000 deaths each year, but most falls are not fatal.

One of the easiest ways to understand fall risk is to look at LD50, or distance at which you have a 50% chance of fatal injuries. If you fell from 48 feet (about 4 stories), statistically you have about a 50% chance of survival. At 84 feet (or 7 stories), the mortality rate is 90%, meaning you’d be very unlikely to survive a fall from this height.

Phil – MD based his reputation at HHR on being relentlessly right and successful in all things. When Hillary did not win, he must have realized that he went too far. He is a proud person and cannot back down now. It is easier to call for the impeachment of Trump than to admit that his election prediction was wrong.

The odd thing is that he did not just go silent. He got louder by switching to twitter.

“The dark comedy, titled “King of the Jungle,” is based on a 2012 Wired article about a journalist’s experience chronicling McAfee’s journey from tech entrepreneur to cocaine addict to fugitive.

The article, “John McAfee’s Last Stand,” by Joshua Davis, follows McAfee as he loses his fortune and moves to the jungle of Belize, setting up a “Colonel Kurtz-like compound of guns, sex and madness,” according to The Hollwood Reporter. The movie is about escalating paranoia, slippery reality and murder, according to the report.

McAfee’s movements had much of the tech community — and the world at large — riveted for several months. McAfee initially made a name for himself by founding the McAfee Association in 1987, which pioneered antivirus software. After departing a multimillionaire in 1994, he’s said to have worked on several startups and for the most part disappeared from the public eye.”

    Seems fair enough.

As far as consenting adults is concerned, many organizations have rules about “consorting” with subordinates, the idea being that a boss could be using his/her position to their advantage. The school district probably has such a policy.

    Democrats: 53 percent.

A wide majority of those polled, 84 percent, said it was difficult to understand what to believe online.

Lot of them are from areas in the 3rd CD that Jenkins currently represents–but one or two Rs also from northern WV (CD 1) The WV R senators from the eastern panhandle (where WV AG Morrisey is from) has not joined the list of senators endorsing Jenkins in an R primary. All the R WV senators from the eastern panhandle have a close working relationship with Morrisey.

    b.) she had a lawyer

most companies who fire people for being old count on the person taking some small severance package which is withdrawn if they don’t leave quietly

unfortunately for them she knew exactly the rules and had a lawyer

she was gone for two years, each month just adding to her back pay award. at first the boss didn’t care because even a few months back pay was a small price to get rid of her, but they not only lost her they had to get a replacement

so they were paying a salary to someone else and threatened with her back pay. it adds up quickly. then she of course had some medical bills due to the stress …

I have posted before about the girl who was on my softball team. I helped her with her college search (Temple University Class of 2021!). I also helped her arrange internships with dentists. She was 2 on September 11, 2001. She told me that she has never known a world where terrorists don’t target innocent civilians. That was depressing to hear.

I was right that indies wouldn’t like Hillary, and that she was a weak opponent, but all the same I wanted the strongest candidate possible, and at the time Trump looked and sounded like a walking disaster. But even so, I knew something was up a week before the election when I saw the Des Moines Register poll of IA. With Trump that far ahead in Iowa, I sensed he couldn’t be that far off in MI and maybe WI.

Then on election night when I saw those early returns coming out of rural portions of IN and KY and saw the huge margins he was running up–I knew it wasn’t likely to be limited to rural areas of red states.

That right there, in a way, makes his presidency slightly better than Bush 43 who had to be dragged kicking and screaming to get Alito instead of disaster-to-be Harriet Miers. When does the Iran(not a treaty)-Corker affair get re-hashed?”

I see NYC is still blaming Corker (the one American hero in the whole Iran deal debacle) for Obama being elected President.

    But to answer the question…

“Secretary of State Rex Tillerson sent a letter to House Speaker Paul Ryan that “certifies” Iran is complying with the terms of the deal, including the terms that place strict limits on its ability to develop a nuclear weapon. The deal, Tillerson said, was working.

Tillerson was careful to note that Tehran was “a leading state sponsor of terror,” and announced that Trump was initiating a review that will “evaluate whether suspension of sanctions related to Iran pursuant to the [Iran deal] is vital to the national security interests of the United States.”

  998. PresidentPaul! says:

Woman are known to be crazy voters.

That’s the main reason why FDR and LBJ were able to realign the country. Some of them don’t mind if their husbands vote for the cuckservative movement: Jeb, Marco and Kasich as long as they aren’t Trump supporters.

The problem is only worsened because the upper classes have been brainwashed at L&S Universities.

  1001. jason says:

His wife had him campaigning for Hillary.”

    He never campaigned for Hillary.

He said his wife was going to vote for Hillary and urge her friends to do the same.

I never disagreed with MD about Trump. What I disagree with is if you disagreed with him during the campaign you are now obliged to disagree with him on everything he does as President. I don’t see the logic in that, except if you want the Democrats back in power.

  1002. jason says:

Woman are known to be crazy voters.”

Yeah, that has always been Ron Paul’s problem.

Not enough crazy voters who would support him.

  1003. Wes says:

MD was a rabid NeverTrumper who predictsd Election Day last year would be an apocalypse for the GOP because Trump was supposedly alienating suburban women. Trump probably did lose some suburban women but clearly didn’t alienate them to the extenr MD imagined. When Trump found an alternate route to victory composed of rural and exurban voters, MD couldn’t take and essentially became an agent of Kos.

  1004. jason says:

I have to agree with Bunu on this point.

If it wasn’t for voters, Ron Paul might be President. Well, nominated.

If only Paulbots were the only ones allowed to appoint candidates, Ron Paul might get the nomination.

And if Lyndon Larouche supporters could pick the Dem nominee, we could have Nutcase vs. Nutcase.

And I could go back to where I came from.

  1005. Wes says:

A Paul-Larouche election sounds like a Saturday Night Live parody.

  1006. jason says:

1048. That is correct. Hillary actually did better than Obama in a couple of suburban Philly counties, showing that Trump did lose some GOP votes. But the massive turnout for Trump in dozens of medium and small counties overcame that gap, and Hillary’s margin in Philadelphia Co. too.

I did tell MD a few times this was going to happen just from the anecdotal evidence in my area. He was very skeptical.

My mistake was that I thought Trump needed Hillary to under perform in Phila Co. and come out with about 150k smaller margin than Obama did. As it turned out, Hillary came out of Phila Co. with the same margin as Obama, over performed in Montco and Delco, did well in Allegheny, and still got crushed in the rest of the state.

    A fact about NATO:

The United States pays 73% of NATO. We are a NATO ATM

Yet the European leaders smirk & giggle when Trump asks them to pay their fair share.

  1110. Wes says:

Handel has trailed all but one poll, yet Jason tells us she’s a great candidate.

I guess that 42% Handel got in a mythological GOP primary wasn’t a sign of a stellar candidate after all. She might want to work a little harder for a job as Congresswoman.

  1111. Wes says:

Here’s a take on Handel that mirrors exactly what I think:

Not much changed since the first round, was close then and is still close now.
I only half-followed this race and may be wrong but I feel Handel and outside groups are running a bit uninspiring campaign. I for example have no idea for what Handel stands besides a standard Paul Ryan/Republican platform. Some outside ads like star wars or san francisco liberal feel like the consultants were just reusing the Powerpoint slides of the last campaign.
Ossoff may not be a great candidate, but he made very little gaffes for a first time candidate and tries something a bit different with his centrist ads and not tunning a clear anti-trump campaign. Had hoped that Handel would stand out a bit more.

  1112. Wes says:

She needs to be a bit more aggressive to win this. It’s GA-6. Yes, I kmow Trump barely won it, but downballot Republicans had no problems at all. Nationally Trump is not especially toxic, so the state of the race clearly comes down to candidate quality. Handel is lackluster while Ossoff has the leftist grassroots excited about sticking it to the Donald.

  1113. Tina says:

She seems to be closing a bit, wes. Agreed not an imoressive candidate., however.
