Even if you have Ossoff winning 75% of mail in ballots and assume they equally split the in-person EV, the final EV break would split Ossoff 53% (75,000); Handel 47%(65,000)

And that’s being very generous to Ossoff. He should have been crushing it with the early vote – at least getting +55%. So far he’s not.

If Handel wins by the same % as Trump in November – in a race you just said was about Trump – doesn’t that mean that all your carping about the damage Trump is doing to the party is just plain wrong?

    – No, of course not. Republicans won several special elections in late 2005 and mid 2006 before the 2006 midterm where they were slaughtered.

A special election is a special event. Better to win than lose, but look at how the margins have come down in the races since November.

If Trump’s approval rating remains as low as it is now on election day 2018, it will be a totally different set of circumstances on a day where there are 435 House races and 33 Senate races.

With just one, a lot of trouble shooting can be done. When there are 435 races, it’s a different story. Most here will disagree, but the only to settle it is to see how things turn out in 2018.

Democrats do will in the in-person early vote. The absentees are particularly one or the other parties. It is desperate to think Ossoff will do much better in the absentees than he’s doing else wise.

Is it even possible for Democrats to tune down the hate, the conspiracy theories and the violence?

I actually don’t think so. I think the vote in Georgia was a referendum on the Democrat’s strategy of hate.

Good for you, Georgia. STOP THE HATE!

  342. Walt says:

NYT needle for estimated final result has crept up from Handel +1.5 to Handel +2.8

  343. BayernFan says:

Chicon….no…talking about Trump alleged ties to some shady development deal. zzzzzzzzz

  344. Tina says:

Nbc claims that so off was out spent.

Holy cow. Handel by 7? LOL!!!! Yeah, polls were awesomely on the mark on this one.

  346. Mr.Vito says:

    Right now on State site

    DeKalb 58/42 Ossoff (98% in)
    Fulton 53/47 Handel (67% in)
    Cobb 61/39 Handel (92% in)

  347. BayernFan says:

  348. Chicon says:

  349. Jonesy says:

Cohn and Wasserman call it for Handel

  350. Tom says:

Spin all you want, crushing defeat for the Libs tonight.

  351. Cash Cow TM says:

NYT site indicates votes in D stronghold of DeKalb all in.

  352. Mr.Vito says:

    100% in DeKalb

Ossoff less than 10000 net margin there

  359. Sheeple, Jr. says:

    Update: 6/20/2017 9:57PM-Decision Desk
And we’re calling this for Handel – not enough pro-Ossoff vote left for her to lose.

  360. Tina says:

Did piglosi call trump, president bush?

  361. Robbie says:

CNN called the race for Handel.

  362. I support Donald Trump says:

If the Democrats would nominate centrist candidates, they would win. The republicans are lucky because they are running against looney liberals. One more thing, Trump is more popular than the polls suggest too.

  363. janz says:

Redman, you have a point about GA being a referendum on the Dems behavior. I think people are sick of the viciousness and vitriol.

  364. Cash Cow TM says:

Handel (and R vote) did a lot better in DeKalb tonight than in the primary.

About 1/2 of DeKalb tonight is colored light red.

  365. DW says:

Got to hand it to Putin, how he got it to flood in DeKalb but not Cobb.

  366. Jeff G. says:

Dems just spent $40 million-plus to get out the vote in 1/435th of the country and lost. This is a significant win for the GOP. I don’t care about the predictable spin of the fake media.

  367. Tom says:

    373. There are no more centrist left in the Democratic party to nominate.

  368. brucefdb says:

The Dems pencil-neck strategy has apparently failed.

  369. Tom says:

    And that’s a good thing.

  370. Cash Cow TM says:

  375. I support Donald Trump says:

  376. BayernFan says:

Hannity is unwatchable. He should just interview wayward Dems.

  377. DW says:

    Karen Handel (Republican) 52.6% 118,373
    Jon Ossoff (Democratic) 47.4% 106,733

gap widening again after the DeKalb mail in hit.

  378. janz says:

DW, have enjoyed your light-hearted humor tonight.

  379. Tina says:

We need slob rick wilson to chime in.

    Also, the socialists son

  383. DW says:

392 – thanks…its been a great evening. I post all the numbers over and over on purpose, so later if we review the thread we will know at what point in the counting the comments were made.

  384. janz says:

Tina, the ratios between the 2 GA candidates have been very public – 7 to 1 in Ossoff’s favor.

  385. Tom says:

Virtually all the polls had Ossoff leading. Time for all of us to take a chill pill and understand that a fundamental change has happened. America is back.

  386. Tina says:

I must say more timely tweets to help handel in the end.

  387. Jonesy says:

Tina, Nicole Wallace is awful too.

  388. BayernFan says:

  389. BayernFan says:

  390. DW says:

NY Times has called it for Handel.

  391. Tina says:

Janz, i know, but the brilliant mark murray of nbc claims otherwise, and they will tout it tomorrow, stating with the morning blow.

  392. janz says:

Yes, DW, it’s been a very encouraging night.

  393. Jonesy says:

    398. Agree Tom. Started with 2015 Kentucky gov race. Polls had began down 10 on election eve

  394. Mr.Vito says:

Handel nearly 15000 vote margin there.

  395. I support Donald Trump says:

  396. Jonesy says:

    Matt bevan sorry

  397. Tina says:

They need to queque the question about who so off was voting for.

Watch cnn label it a negative campaign question tomorrow.

  398. Wes says:

Congratulations to Karen Handel for beating Jon Ossoff. Congratulations to Hugh for sticking by your 4+ prediction that ultimately proved accurate.

Dems invested so much time–and more importantly, money–in this race this loss must be emotionally draining.

Republicans dodged a bullet here because the Left engaged in abominable acts the final week of the campaign. This self-destructive tendency of leftists brought on by their unhinged loathing for Donald Trump leads me to believe vongressional Republicans will fare better next year than had been previously supposed.

  399. janz says:

Tina, I don’t know what people get out of misrepresenting the facts.

  400. Chicon says:

398 – yep, more evidence of some fundamental flaw(s) in the polling methodologies in general. That industry has work to do.

  401. Tina says:

Did MD melt down on RRH over Handel’s victory?

  405. SanDiegoCitizen says:

Speaking about the loony Democratic left, appears that Manchin has a Sandinista challenger.

Those on the board from West Virginia probably whats going on. Whats up with it?

  406. Tina says:

Amc had it at so off pkus 7. Their final poll.

  407. Wes says:

Congratulations to uou too, DW. You were very prescient in your analysis.

  408. Chicon says:

411 – Good call by you, too, Wes, as the situation on the ground changed after the VA shooting. You’re good at the science part of political science, imo.

  409. Wes says:

SDC, I wonder if Dems might want the Sandersbot to run zgainst Manchin yo try to shore up his supposedly moderate bons fides after his mostly liberal voting record in the Senate.

  410. Tina says:

The basement dwellers are being evacuated as we speak.

Russian helicopters are assisting with the evacuation.

  411. janz says:

Wes, I think your analysis has merit, in that elections like this will chill the left’s ambitions and credibility, which can give energy to the Rs n the 2018 midterms. I also believe that, in the short term, this much-anticipated election favoring the Rs will help push their agenda forward more.

  412. Wes says:

    Thanks, Chicon. Much appreciated.

  413. SanDiegoCitizen says:

You might be right, am on the other side of the country, so you guys would know.

  419. wvally says:

Nice result tonight. Got a good chuckle from Ds all over twitter saying this portends a Dem sweep in 18.

Side note: I find it funny that the MSM non stop hysteria about Trump seems to be having the opposite of their intended effect.

  420. Tina says:

Imagine the saad faces on cnn, just look at the pic.

  421. janz says:

Tomorrow Trump goes to Iowa for a rally. The oucome of these two “specials” will give him lots to cheer about.

  422. Phil says:

Screw off, Gergan. I already had to listen to you in the waiting room today when I was captive to CNN. Rush calls this guy Davis Rodham Gergan and for good reason.

  423. Tina says:

Congratulations to Karen Handel on a GREAT win in Georgia! The Democrats blew it again (0-4). Total disarray. Republicans are stronger than ever before! #MAGA

  424. Tina says:

Trumps facebook will trigger the drats.

  425. Cash Cow TM says:

If Ossoff and the D PACs spent $40 million, and Ossoff gets 140,000 votes, then that works out to $285 per vote garnered.

    $265 per vote garnered!
    That is RAHY-DICK-E-LOUS!

  426. Tina says:

Phil, i made it up on gergsn, sorry. But ithat coukd be him.

  427. Phil says:

Kudos, Wes. You did it again, my friend.

  428. Waingro says:

The Dem dweeb is giving his concession speech. Good job wasting 20 Million Plus.

  429. JC says:

    Trafalgar nailed the election. Again.

  430. Tina says:

So, in that post, he means it.

In the post about being investigated, he did not mean it. He was remarking in the fake wp story.

  431. Chicon says:

Wes, it’s well-earned. You were on top of the shift as it happened, which is where the skill is, imo. To me, final predictions are cool, but seeing the effects of new events that quickly is where it’s at.

  432. jason says:

    Handel won by 5.

    Wobbie hardest hit.

  433. Tom says:

    411. Agree with everything you said, except that we didn’t dodge a bullet. It was never that close. We just bought into the liberal hype. Keep the faith. We are winning. Repeal Obamacare, implement tax reform, unchain the energy sector, get government off our backs, and the liberal agenda will be on the ash bin of history.

  434. Tina says:

Who is macaroni, bieber blaming for the loss?

  435. Trump says:

    Ossoff follows the Jeb model.

Lot of money for not winning.

  436. Marc says:

MessNBC doesn’t even bother to show Ossoff concession speech, after weeks and weeks of promoting the guy has the end of Trump and all Republicans ?

  437. Tom says:

Not winning, but a lot of whining.

  438. Wes says:

This is a great quote from RRH:

10:15 ET: AP has given Handel the check as well. Jon Ossoff joins New Coke and the Falcons’ 28-3 lead in Atlanta’s Hall of Busts.

  439. Trump says:

    Trump wins. Again.

    Not tired of losing.

  440. BayernFan says:

    448…hear hear.

  441. Tina says:

Schweikart did well too, 3 to 4 for Handel

  442. Tina says:

    Dan Bongino @dbongino

Congratulations also to Jason. He said that Handel would be a good candidate.

  444. BayernFan says:

Sabato says Dems are depressed. Euphoria replaced by reality.

  445. Tina says:

Oh please be the drat nominee in 2020, eric holder.

  446. Wes says:

I disagree, Tom. Nothing before the last week–I’m not talking about polls but about on-the-ground events–indicated Handel would win. Hodgkinson was the turning point, I feel. Right after that was when polls tightened and Handel looked viable. Before that, she was definitely down.

She persisted though and won. I give her credit for hanging in long enough for events to turn against Ossoff.

  447. Tom says:

    Nite all. Sleeping well tonight.

  448. Chicon says:

Bitter, this result further delays MD’s “I told you so” return to HHR.

Big trade for the Sixers the other day.

  449. Tina says:

    John Harwood @JohnJHarwood
Handel win discourages Democrats, calms Republican jitters, helps GOP leaders in Congress pass health/tax bills & put them on Trump’s desk

With muh russia being dead, there are no more excuses.

  450. jason says:

GOP was also smart in picking their best candidate. Handel might not be a great campaigner, but pretty solid nonetheless.

  451. Wes says:

    465 is spot on, Tina.

  452. BayernFan says:

    458. lolololol

  453. Tina says:

She did i press me the last few weeks withthe debate question. No question helped by the assasination attempt.

  454. Waingro says:

Looking like a 6 point win for Handel.

  455. Wes says:

Handel is the first woman to represent Georgia in Congress since Cynthia McKinney left office in 2007. I hope the new Congresswoman nails down the district and works hard to give her constituents reason to return her to office in succeeding elections.

  456. Marv says:

    Been to HI lately?

  457. Trump says:

The Dems are waiting for NoVa to report.

  458. Mr.Vito says:

Handel was likely also helped by the Comey Comedy Hour.

  459. Tina says:

No, marv, you? I always go to the pink palace.

  460. mnw says:

Ralph Reed: the B-2 stealth bomber of GOP victory.

  461. Trump says:

What is the next race that Dems can throw millions at?

  462. Wes says:

Voters apparently have Republicans’ backs as evidenced by this election. Congressional Republicans need to do something with that good will.

  463. Tina says:

Comedy hour and sessions. No damage done. Comedy helped trump, but he was designed to hurt him.

Sessions was designed to help him and he did so.

Sessions destroyed the inquisition by the senators. He laughed at them.

Big assists by rubio and cotton.

  464. Marc says:

Speaking about the loony Democratic left, appears that Manchin has a Sandinista challenger.

Those on the board from West Virginia probably whats going on. Whats up with it?”

    Sandy Eggo,

Manchin was getting a lot of flack from the left in the D party in WV and he told them that if they did not like him and his votes, then they should find someone from the left to run against him in the primary.

    Someone took the challenge.
She will probably get 20-25% of the D primary vote.

Lots of the far left Ds (the folks who hate coal, fossil fuels, we need free college education, tax businesses at 50%, throw all Republicans in jail, etc., etc.) do not think Manchin is far left enough and is not a Bernie Sanders disciple (he roundly supported Hillary in the 2016 primary).

The more pragmatic politicos in the D party are urging the D whackadoodle firebreathers to not be deadenders and instead vote to renominate Manchin, since a far left D will spell doom in the general election and guarantee an evil R will win.

  466. NYCmike says:

i will look up the night and days after the initial election. I never had a doubt about Ossoff getting no more than 48%, as i wrote earlier.

Wes has been worrying for the last month, he has been reacting to msm news just like Robbie.

At this point, if Bayern isn’t listened to, then you are an ignoramus, as he keeps calling it before it happens, and calling BS on media spin.

  467. Tina says:

The rs need to use their power, not abuse it. Just use it.

Shut down the investigations into seinfelds russian collusion.

  469. NYCmike says:

“Congressional Republicans need to do something with that good will.”

-well, it looks like another parrot likes one of my lines…….

  470. Wes says:

VA State House is a likely hold. VA-Gov is a tossup according to the first poll out after the primaries. I think Gillespie can win and rebuild the VAGOP.

  471. Tina says:

Rubio and cotton managed to destroy muh russian,

I am liking rubio again. I always liked him, but he seemed to kose his way a bit.

  472. Trump says:

Dems didn’t throw enough money on this race, apparently.

Another $50m would have done the trick.

  473. NYCmike says:

Robbie to condemn KAC in 3…..2…..1…..

  474. SanDiegoCitizen says:

Handel was able to win despite not beating up a reporter. I don’t understand Eastern politics.

  475. jason says:

Congratulations also to Jason. He said that Handel would be a good candidate.”

Thanks. She was the best of the GOP field, and had the best name recognition. And she was the right person to bring back the GOP voters that either didn’t vote for Trump or were unhappy with him. She ran a traditional conservative vs. liberal campaign, running against Pelosi more than she ran against Ossoff.

  476. Tina says:

The trump team will trigger the drats. Who knows the flooded basement dwellers may show up,to vote…tomorrow.

  477. NYCmike says:

“Trump” called it right again, as well.

    Good call.

  478. Tina says:

Rubio and cotton are turning out to be my favorite r senators.

    Goober is going up.

Mcamnesty and sasse are bith at bottom

  479. Wes says:

Wrong, Mikey. I reacted to what the candidates themselves were doing. Once Hodgkinson went on his rampage, I said Handel would win.

Forgive me for using logic to reach my conclusions and change my projections as events unfolded.

  480. NYCmike says:

She was the best of the Republican field, despite Wes’s attempts to disparage another woman……ok, kidding about the gender part.

  481. BayernFan says:

    482…..aaawwwww…I’m not the only one.

  482. Tina says:

    Trump Iowa rally tomorrow.

    More triggering….

  483. BayernFan says:

    Dems lost their ossoff!!!

  484. Robbie says:

Thank goodness these tough special elections are over. There will be one for Chafetz’s seat in Utah, but that shouldn’t be much of a race.

  485. MichiganGuy says:

    South Carolina

    Norman 51%
    Parnell 48%

Thank God the democrats decided to put all their effort into Georgia. They had a better chance in SC. 🙂

  486. Cash Cow TM says:

Where is the kudos for Cash Cow predicting that the whackadoodle terrorists attacks worldwide and the shooting of the R baseball players would shift voters over to Handel?

    …Terrorist acts have consequences….

  487. wvally says:

Good speech by Handel. Called out political violence. Called for repeal/replace and tax cuts. She seems perfectly suited to a Georgia suburb.

  488. Wes says:

AL-Sen is upcoming too. Unless Roy Moore somehow becomes the nominee, I don’t see that as a remotely hotly contested election.

  489. Trump says:

The Utah seat will be close.

Dems should pour in another $50m there.

  490. NYCmike says:

Logical reasoning, as I listed earlier today, stands the test of time.

Events were going to happen. What they are an d when they happen I can’t predict.

But since the election when Ossoff only got 48% i have repeatedly said his ceiling was that number, NEVER getting into a discussion about how he could win, like you did.

  491. Tina says:

I had her turning point post debate.

Osoff, who are you voting for? No timely answer. Whoever coached her to ask that question deserves a raise. His non response was telling. He shut down.

Plus, during that time, we had cimedy hour and sessions, and a lot of good economic news.

No doubt that the assassination attempt plus mailing white substance to handel, and refering to her as a c@unt did not help.

  492. Mr.Vito says:

    18% turnout in SC
    54% turnout in GA

  493. jason says:

Don’t be too fooled by SC. A lot of GOP voters didn’t bother to vote. If it had been a higher profile race, they would have showed up.

  494. MichiganGuy says:

Handel win = no md woohoo!!!

No, I told you Trump would destroy the Republican Party!

  495. Wes says:

Actually, MG, that race was probably as close as it was precisely because no one was paying attention to it while all eyes were on GA-6.

  496. jason says:

Mr. Vito illustrates my point with real numbers.

  497. Cash Cow TM says:

Walt said he wishes he had $40,000,000 to spend back in 2012 on his state delegate race…

  499. Tina says:

Crowd chanting “TRUMP! TRUMP!” at Handel victory speech!!

Lol, more triggering. Trumpmand her worked well together.

  500. Trump says:

    The MSM tomorrow:

What Georgia race? Was there an election?

  501. Tina says:

“A special thanks to the president of the United States.”

Republican Karen Handel thanks supporters—including Trump

That is when the crowd went nuts.

  502. MichiganGuy says:

Cnn cut off Handel’s victory speech. They are depressed!

  503. jason says:

The AP story just drips disappointment ….

“Republican Karen Handel has won a nationally watched congressional election in Georgia, avoiding an upset that would have rocked Washington ahead of the 2018 midterm elections.”

  504. SanDiegoCitizen says:

    501. Actually it might be better for the Democrats to do what they did in South Carolina, campaign under the radar and work to get their voters out.
Too much national publicity and attention may increase the Republican turn-out.

  505. Tina says:

She did not distance herself from trump. I am sure gergen, the canned ham, or dumb wilson.would have recommended that.

  506. Chicon says:

Wes, what are we to make of the inaccurate polling in this election? Seems to be a trend…

  507. NYCmike says:

“AL-Sen is upcoming too. Unless Roy Moore somehow becomes the nominee, I don’t see that as a remotely hotly contested election.”

-isn’t there another guy who Robbie keeps warning about, mel brooks or something like that?

let’s face it, you cant Toquemada anything!

  508. jason says:

    Dems lost their ossoff!!!”

    I give that a 9…..

  509. Tina says:

    Muh osoff.

  510. Wes says:

Oh, no, Mikey. I didn’t say Ossoff could win. I said unless the race’s dynamic changed, he was going to win.

Events turned against him, and he lost.

As soon as Hodgkinson went on his shooting spree, I said Handel would win.

Ossoff wasn’t responsible for it, but the Arlington shooting became the macaca moment in the race when everything changed.

  511. jason says:

I saw Ossoff’s concession speech… he looks like a candidate for HS Class President….

  512. Tina says:

    Kellyanne Conway @KellyannePolls

Bet change of nearly 100k to the rs in florida, per Schweikart.

  515. jason says:

I would agree with Wes if the margin was closer.

I think Handel would have won anyway, just with a closer margin.

I don’t disagree the shooting helped her though.

  516. Wes says:

Mo Brooks is gigaparsecs ahead of Moore as a candidate. That doesn’t mean the ALGOP lacks better candidates, but Brooks isn’t likely to be one they can beat.

“I said unless the race’s dynamic changed, he was going to win.”

-And I said, from the last election, when he topped out at 48%, he was NOT going to win.

    Logic said so.

To think otherwise was listening to the media spin, as someone mentioned above.

  518. Chicon says:

Mike – if the issue is GWB or Lincoln, I agree. Otherwise, I have faith in his analysis. Anyone goes off kilter when emotion drives the bus. I’ve been trying to explain this to Robbie, to no avail.

  519. NYCmike says:

I am not saying that Handel, and the Republicans, could mail it in…….you always have to work for it……something someone like Lugar forgot.

  520. Wes says:

Tina, Colorado Republicans hurt themselves by passing Tabor. If they can get that repealed, the Dems no longer have anything to hide behind, and the COGOP can resurge.

    Oregon is a lost cause.

Donald J. Trump” “Things are looking great for Karen H!”

  524. Walt says:

    I never said that!

Even though in 2012 I was outspend by something like $32K to $16K, I feel that due to losing some significant friendly precincts due to D controlled redistricting that played a big part in my losing.

Also, never expected that Obama voters would pour out in 2012 and produce significantly HIGHER number of SPV in my district that BHO got in 2008.

Of course the false flurry of late libelous postcard mailers against me did play a part…

But the voters realized the error of their ways in 2014….

  525. NYCmike says:

Ok, Chicon, I understand your point.

  526. Wes says:

The only problem with that analysis, Mike, is that Hodgkinson happened, so the race can’t be analyzed in a vacuum.

  527. JC says:

I think I did pretty well with my prediction.

    Early Votes;

    – Handel 47.5% (66,500)
    – Ossoff 52.5% (73,500)

    Actual Results:
    – Handel 47.63 (60,174)
    – Ossoff 52.37% (66,160)

    Election Day Votes;

    – Handel 57% (68,400)
    – Ossoff 43% (51,600)

    Actual Results:
    – Handel 58.12% (66,847)
    – Ossoff 41.88% (48,230)

    Final Tally;

    – Handel 51.88% (134,900)
    – Ossoff 48.11% (125,100)
    – Total votes cast (~260,000)

    Actual Results:
    – Handel 52.6% (127,021)
    – Ossoff 47.4% (114,390)
    – Total (241,411)

  528. NYCmike says:

    Wes, yes it did.

As I said, events happen. Possibly it could have been closer, but i saw 48% as a ceiling. Hairline crack, maybe, but no way it would be cracked through, no matter what. I said Karen had a Handel on it way before the shooting happened.

  529. Tina says:

Wes, schweikart posted the Numbers from 11 states. Colorado is disheartening. However, florida is looking really good for us.

  530. wvally says:

I understand that the shooting may have influenced some people, but do you think it changed many people’s votes?

    Or changed turnout?

  531. NYCmike says:

    Cheers, and Good Night.

Hopefully, Congressional Republicans went to bed early after a full day of meetings and writing legislation to vote on, to be sent to Trump to sign.
    Conservative, market-oriented legislation…..

  532. Wes says:

We’ll have to agree to disagree here, Mike.

    Handel won.

    That’s the important thing.

It’s what we both wanted and ultimately predicted.

  533. brucefdb says:

Karen had a Handel on it,,,,, NYCMike

    Salty Mike!

  534. wvally says:

Isn’t it also possible that pollsters were wishful thinking with unrealistic splits when further out, then tightened screens towards the end to come closer to the true state of the race?

  535. Wes says:

According yo the late poll crosstabs, WVA, a number of voters became more likely yo vote after Hodgkinson and broke toeard Handel.

He wasn’t the only thing. Dems made threats against GOP campaign offices and mailed suspicious packages to Handel.

I posted those combined events created a perfect storm for Handel to win by spurring Republicans to rally around her.

  536. Trump says:

    Trump voters don’t answer pollsters.

How many elections does it take for this fact to sink?

  537. Wes says:

Well, the poll showing Ossoff up 51-44 was an outlier. Even Republican pollsters such as Gravis–the best pollster of 2014–said Ossoff had an edge though. He was hovering just under 50%. That’s about what he got, but Handel cleaned ip with the late breakers.

  538. Waingro says:

“There are only 27 “less Republican” GOP-held seats than #GA06 (measured by Clinton %). That would mean Dems need to win 24 of them.”

  539. jason says:

    Karen Handel 118,373 52.6%
    Jon Ossoff 106,733 47.4%

    Not really that close.

  540. Trump says:

It’s a nailbiter, since republican won.

    If s dem wins by 5, it’s a landslide.

  541. Trump says:

The last few months are a stark reminder to tune out fake news and fake polls.

  542. Wes says:

For laughs, check out RRH. The eeyoring “Republicans” over there were saying Ossoff would win even as Handel was widening her lead.

  543. jason says:

I read that report. There is no bombshell in it. It’s just theory. I am open to the theory it was not a robbery, but this report does not convince me.

  544. wvally says:

thx for explaining Wes. Does this race give you a good feeling about next year?

It does for me. I’m guessing we’ll see lots of early polls showing dems up as they’re all angry and riled up non stop, while Rs are trying to tune out the hysteria and live life. As Election Day nears crazy Dem celebs, politicos and SJWs will get crazier. MSM will be wetting itself tasting rep defeat, talking about the fundamental power shift we’re on the precipice of.

But when it comes down to the wire Rs will know that dems taking congress = impeachment and further escalation of insanity. And they will decide to turn out and win.

  554. jason says:

    Wobbie is really a joke.

He says GOP will be decimated if Trump is at 40%.

Then he says Handel won because Trump was at 45% in this district.

The fact is that if Trump is at 40% nationally, he is going to be at 45% in a lot of GOP districts.

  555. jason says:

  558. SanDiegoCitizen says:

In response to the inquires about Utah. The Republican primary will be held on August 15. Believe the general election will be in December.

There are three candidates for the Republican nomination. Chris Herrod, a state assembly member, received the Republican convention endorsement, so is on the ballot. Two other candidates obtained enough signatures too run — John Curtis the Mayor of Provo, and Tanner Ainge, the son of Danny Ainge the former Celtic basketball player.

Herrod is not a strong candidate, he once challenged Orrin Hatch in a primary and lost. Think that Curtis may win the August primary.

There is a Democratic candidate, whose name I cannot remember, and has no chance whatsoever.

Utah is booming, its economy is growing and it has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country; it also has the best social mobility rating. People work hard, buy houses, raises families and live well. There is not the level of discontent you see in the Midwest or California.

Trump is not a factor in the election, although his policies receive support, he is not particularly popular in Utah.

  559. SanDiegoCitizen says:

  561. Wes says:

Final margin was 134595 Handel (51.9%) to 124893 Ossoff (48.1%).

That’s a 3.8% margin. DW and NYCMike, who said Handel would win 52-48, were the closest predictors of the race.

  562. Wes says:

Wvally, that Handel won does make me breathe easier for next year. Psychologically seeing the GOP beat the Dems after all those resources invested against them would have to make any supporter of the GOP feel good about next year’s prospects.

  563. mnw says:

I just watched Handel’s speech at her victory party: she spent her whole time thanking a laundry list of her key local supporters. Yawn.

Missed an opportunity to inspire? Uh-huh, big time. She was a mediocre campaigner, and she remained consistent in her mediocrity until the end.

I contributed to her, but I was never under any illusion about what the GOP served up for us. Her victory makes my day, though.

All things being equal, I would think 48.1 is probably Ossoff’s ceiling.

He is making no sense at all.
    He is a giant GOOBER!.

He might be the richest person in WV and owns many businesses including the Greenbrier Resort, but he is a horrible speaker…rambling…not make sense…blasts Rs…blasts Ds…no way he gets reelected in 2020 IF he even runs.

    Book it!
Off to help Walt take recycling down.

  625. Cash Cow TM says:

    Are you related to Scooterboy?

Are you offended when someone refers to you as “boy”?

  626. jason says:

    Very good JC.

Now let’s get down to business.

What’s your pick for the 7th race at Penn National?

  627. jason says:

Pitch, that’s a big A-hole to fill….sure you are up to it?

  628. Wes says:

Can we get a best to worst of HHR GA-6 predictions?

  629. jason says:

Someone should ask Author why he didn’t support Handel. She is a about as mainstream R as you can get and not a Trumpbot.

  630. Wobbie says:

Can we get a best to worst of HHR GA-6 predictions?”

Me, me. I predicted this would be the harbinger of a R Armageddon in 2018.

  631. Phil says:

Author is no Republican that’s why. He is what he is – an open borders guy from Puerto Rico.

  632. Wes says:

Author and MD are going full moonbat.

  633. Phil says:

Where is Robbie this morning anyway?

    Sleeping it off?

  634. NYCmike says:

    -A new MD?

That deserves a new sheriff as well!*

*Are we still allowed to laugh at these scenes?

  635. NYCmike says:

“He is what he is – an open borders **overly emotional-never-left-adolescence-millenial-dweeb** from Puerto Rico.”

  636. Phil says:

As far as MD, I will never understand what has happened to him. His anti Trumpies seems to have driven him over the edge. Still, I always appreciated his posting over the many years I have been here. He’s a good guy.

  637. NYCmike says:

“Where is Robbie this morning anyway?”

-He was here earlier, but then must have went back to searching for bad news.

  638. NYCmike says:

I always enjoyed MD’s bravado as well….I never tired of him regaling us with how correct he always…….was. 🙂

  639. DW says:

660 – MD will come back.

  640. NYCmike says:

    ….better than ever!

  641. Phil says:

If he is searching for bad news, there is no doubt he will find it or continue searching if it isn’t readily available.

I honestly think Robbie is really Joe Scarborough. Seriously, his posts are a carbon copy of any transcript on any Morning Joe segment. Gotta be Joe.

  642. NYCmike says:

I predict a “relentless” barrage of comments, if he does.

  643. NYCmike says:

    Mika must give good headache.

  644. Tina says:

  647. PresidentPaul! says:

Would be nice to get rid of Rubio.

  648. Wobbie says:

Wobbie is always “busy” when things don’t go his way.

  649. jason says:

Bunu, if you think you are a Republican seek professional help.

  650. jason says:

I like MD. We were always pretty close on ideology and on PA election analysis. And I always thought he was farther to the right than I was.

I am mystified how he thinks a Dem takeover would be good for the country, especially given his business background and aversion to high taxes.

Author is a different story. While we agreed ideologically on most issues, he was always very emotional and impressionable, not a lot of conviction. It’s easier to see how he could be co-opted to the dark side than MD.

  651. Wobbles says:

“Seriously, his posts are a carbon copy of any transcript on any Morning Joe segment. Gotta be Joe.”

It’s an amazing coincidence, I tell you.

  658. Jonesy says:

Even though he took $30 Million in Silicon Valley/H-wood bucks, Ossoff is calling for Campaign Finance Reform today. Say What?

  659. Jonesy says:

Even if you replace Kennedy with a Conservative, Roberts will just salvitate on becoming the new Swing Vote.

Really need a Dem Retirement also to get a real majority

  660. JC says:

Both the RNC and DNC filed their fundraising for May:

    DNC beginning COH: $8,796,366
    Raised: $4,293,682
    Spent: $5,394,682
    Remaining COH: $7,694,342
    Dept: $1,901,185

    RNC beginning COH: $41,410,435
    Raised: $10,868,580
    Spent: $10,446,998
    Remaining COH: $41,832,036
    Dept: $0

  661. Phil says:

Maybe the DNC would be better off financially if potential donors didn’t flush 25 mil down a rat hole in a Republican leaning Georgia district.

  662. Bitterlaw says:

MD wants the GOP to lose the House in 2018 so that it can rid itself of the Trump taint. Of course, he seems to forget that in 2016 there was not exactly a groundswell of GOP House members backing Trump before he secured the nomination.

I guess MD believes that he has to destroy the Republican party to save the Republican party.

  663. Phil says:

Good take on Roberts. After making himself into a human pretzel on Obamacare I don’t trust this guy as far as I can throw him.

  664. Phil says:

Also, the only way you can get any of these lefties off the Court is to carry them off in a box.

  665. jason says:

Ah yes, the Jul theory of “rising from the ashes”

  666. jason says:

They figure they will only have to wait 2 years and then people like MD will help them out.

  667. jason says:

I frankly wish we had 9 Roberts on the court.

  668. Jonesy says:

Agreed Phil. Roberts is a globalist, who protected his Insurance Industry pals to save Obamacare.

    Do not trust him

  669. Jonesy says:

Stevens waited till he was 90, and a Dem won the White House to retire.

  670. jason says:

I am fine with Roberts, I don’t expect to agree with every decision. 95% or more times he takes the conservative view, that’s good enough for me.

  671. jason says:

Replacing Kennedy puts a younger conservative on the court, that alone is a good thing.

  672. Jonesy says:

Bitterlaw, why does MD hate Trump that much? I mean enough to hope the GOP loses Congress?

Years back, he use to complain about his Deadbeat Marxist sister

  673. Jonesy says:

    696. Yes Jason, agreed, but it makes Roberts the new media darling as a swing vote. That worries me

  674. Bitterlaw says:

I frankly wish we had 9 Roberts on the court.

I disagree. I will take 7 Roberts and 2 Alitos. We need more Phillies fans on SCOTUS.

  683. Blobbie says:

it shows that trump has devastated the party and the dems will have an 8 to 11% advantage in 2018

utah and idaho will be in play

of course i may revise my prediction the day before the election

  684. lisab says:

  685. jason says:

During the primaries, I was convinced Trump would lose, that was enough for me to oppose him, I thought electing Hillary would be a disaster. I didn’t vote for him because I didn’t think he was fit for the job, and Hillary was not relevant to that assessment. During the GE campaign, however, I did not let my objections cloud my judgment and I did not dismiss his chances of winning.

But once he won, he gets a clean slate and the opportunity to prove me wrong. Wobbie can continue talking about his divorce in the 80’s.

he will do the same with polls
while pushing how bad trump is doing every week EXCEPT he will say, “it is god when he is off twitter”
but … he will predict a small republican win, so that if the reps pull the election out he can say, “see i supported handel, i predicted she will win”
but if ossoff wins he can say, “i predicted handal would win, but this shows just how bad trump is and is a canary in the coalmine for 2018”

  687. jason says:

  688. Wes says:

  693. Wes says:

None of the Dem appointees on the Supreme Court will retire while Trump is in office. They are ancient, however, meaning they may not survive his term in office.*

  694. NYCmike says:

Please don’t make ridiculous statements. I went to 2 Tea Party’s in NYC/Brooklyn. Friends went on Long Island.

Birtherism was never mentioned there…….the media made it bigger than it was, because it was a losing issue for the Republican Party.

I don’t doubt they objected to Castle, and I don’t doubt there was a good number of people who believed it. BUT, they were in no way a “major issue”.

  709. Tina says:

Her thighness was the original birther.

  710. Bitterlaw says:

  711. Tina says:

  712. NYCmike says:

There were definitely people who were motivated against Obama, and by the birther issue.

Out of the millions of Tea Party participants, they were no more than 5%, if that.

  713. DW says:

719 – what was it you got, 12%?

  714. Bitterlaw says:

The Tea Party pre-dated Obama so birtherism was not a founding principle of the Tea Party. However, some Tea Partiers were birther morons when Obama was nominated. Both can be true.

  715. Senator Coons says:

Senator for life, mf-ers! Thank you, Deadenders. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!

  716. NYCmike says:

That was #718, you are one comment off.

  717. Wes says:

You obviously didn’t read posts by Tea Party-aligned people such as Eph Rove at the time, Mikey, or notice DONALD TRUMP was pushing the issue or hear about the guys who tried to petition the Supreme Court to overturn the election because Obama was supposedly not an American or see posts by I P 7 27 or pay much attention in general back in 2009 and 2010.

I’ll agree the media hyped it to help the Dems. I’ll also agree the majority of Tea Partyers didn’t believe the issue.

It was, however, a cause celebre among a distinct minority of Obama’s opposition. Mainline Republicans rejected it outright. As we saw in Delaware, your fellow O’Donnell supporters clearly believed that idiocy.

I’m sorry the lunatic fringe of the GOP, as opposed to its more mainstream arm, is so much of a political idol to hou as to cause you to pretend birtherism wasn’t a strongly held belief of theirs.

  718. Bitterlaw says:

Even a Democrat like Senator Coons is wary of terrorists.

  719. Wes says:

Yhe Tea Party began because of a Rick Santelli rant in 2009, Bitter.

  720. DW says:

  721. Bitterlaw says:

Yhe Tea Party began because of a Rick Santelli rant in 2009, Bitter.

Wes is correct. I was thinking of the 2010 elections. I will live with the shame until Wes harps on my mistake for post after post after post. I will then tell him to F off.

  723. Cash Cow TM says:

  724. DW says:

And if I recall correctly, the Democrat who defeated Bitterlaw, in hindsight would have been much better off to have lost that election because a couple of years ago was sentenced to 10 years in the slammer for being found guilty of racketeering, fraud, and all sorts of corruption.

I know its a shocker, a Philly Democrat found to be guilty of corruption.

  725. jason says:

Sometimes I am just so proud of being an A-hole.

  726. Wes says:

To be fair, Bitter, not knowing how the Tea Party began isn’t nearly so egregious an oversight as not knowing what process the Constitution establishes for amendments. I can give you a pass on the former but not on the latter.

  727. Wes says:

Or not knowing no Senate Majority Leader from the antebellum period could be worse than Harry Reid because the Senate had no Majority Leaders till 1920.

  728. Bitterlaw says:

DW – 12%. More than 20,000 people voted for me. Walt was elected in 2014 with less than 2000 votes. I just need to take my adoring hordes to West Virginia and we could run that state.

  730. BayernFan says:

I said Handel would win by 3-4%. I was spot on.

  731. Wes says:

I was referring to two things, Bitter:

You claimed Linccoln passed the 13th Amendment when in fact as President, he had no official role in the amendment process.

After Harry Reid announced his retirement, Author called him the worst Senate Majority Leader in history. You responded by saying there must have been worse leaders before the Civil War when, as Author and I noted to you at the time, the Senate had no such position till 1920.

  732. jason says:

    Wobbie must be sulking.

But you never know, the WAPO might come up with another leak and he will be gleefully posting it here within a nanosecond.

  733. Tina says:

    Joy Reid @JoyAnnReid
It’s GEORGIA. A Republican district in Georgia that Trump won by 20+ points. Let’s hang on to some perspective, folks.

Uh, does she work for nbc?

  734. Wes says:

Joy Reid must not have a good grasp of facts:

Although Mitt Romney carried GA-6 by 20 points in 2012, Donald Trump carried it by only 1.5% last year.

  735. Bitterlaw says:

You claimed Linccoln passed the 13th Amendment when in fact as President, he had no official role in the amendment process.

No. I said that he championed it and that the war made it possible to end slavery in the US. Lincoln was already dead when it became part of the Constitution. Of course, you only think slavery was wrong but not evil so your point of view is irrelevant.

  736. Bitterlaw says:

You responded by saying there must have been worse leaders before the Civil War when, as Author and I noted to you at the time, the Senate had no such position till 1920.

Zzzzzzzzzz. I did not say Senate majority Leader. I said “leaders” without a specific title. Are you claiming that there were no influential Senators before 1920, Wes? There were Senators who “lead” by being powerful and influential without having a title.

  737. BRENT says:

    719. trump goes 8 yrs and at least one of the dems will die of old age

  738. Wes says:

You were responding to a statement about Senate Majority Leaders, Bitter. You didn’t know what you were talking about, and Author and I called you out on it. Now, since you want to play the pedantic word game to cover your ignorance of American history, name one of these antebellum Senate “leaders”–just one–who was worse than Harry Reid.

    And go…

  739. Wes says:

Actually, Bitter, your exact words were as follows:

He ended slavery and preserved the Union.

You said nothing about championing the amendment.

Had you actually said what you claim, then I wouldn’t be able to gleefully call you out on your repeated displays of ignorance of both the Constiution and American history.

She will be 87 if she makes it through Trump’s first term. If he is re-elected, she will have to survive on the court until she’s 91 to keep Trump from replacing her.

Needless to say, the odds are not in her favor.

  742. Wes says:

    New Va poll:

    Northam 47

    Gillespie 39

The poll immediately after the primaries was tied.

That’s not great but certainly isn’t a horrible position for Ed.

“I’m sorry the lunatic fringe of the GOP, as opposed to its more mainstream arm, is so much of a political idol to hou as to cause you to pretend birtherism wasn’t a strongly held belief of theirs.”

  745. JC says:

Last year I decided to disregard all college and media polls no matter what the results showed. I simply do not trust these people to not try to manipulate the results to their desired outcome. In fact, I have shied drastically away from polls in general (and I used to be obsessed with them).

We live in an age of journalism where you can expect with near certainty a front page WaPo story every other day about some anonymous leaks from unnamed sources about some supposedly damaging but unconfirmed thing on Trump (which almost always turns out to be untrue). It’s like clock work.

Once you accept that the media is working tireless everyday to undermine you and your beliefs, then everything they say and produce become suspect.

I do not believe their polls. I think they over-sample democrats. I think they use polls to influence public opinion rather than reflect it.

    Totally agree and well said.

  747. Bitterlaw says:

Senator Jefferson Davis was worse than Harry Reid. Harry Reid did not resign in order to lead a revolt against the US. Perhaps you forgot about him, Wes.

  748. Bitterlaw says:

Wes claims to know more about American history than I do but he apparently never learned that slavery was evil. I guess he missed that lesson.

  755. Robbie says:

Rush Limbaugh made the case today that “conservatism” is basically just “not liberalism” or “anti-leftism”. No wonder a guy who’s on his fourth wife can claim the mantle of conservative leader.

This is a recipe for failure as it makes conservatism totally reactionary to what liberals do rather than being innovative and putting pressure on the Democrats.

  765. Robbie says:

To expand on my point about Rush Limbaugh and conservatism, let me say this. For good or for ill, he has set the terms of what it means to be a conservative for the better part of 25 years. He even boasts, to this day, he is the founder of the “Institute for Advanced Conservative Studies”. Now, he seems to be altering or discarding his conservative principles to match the moment or maybe just the man of the moment.

Rush spent most of 2008 suggesting McCain wasn’t a real conservative and then did the same to Romney in 2012. Coincidentally, both struggled all throughout their primary and general election campaigns to coalesce their right flanks. And in the 2016 process, Rush aimed his conservative critiques at, among others, Rubio of all people. He may not be numero uno in my book, but claiming Rubio isn’t conservative is nuts.

Yet after 25 of promoting conservative causes and candidates, Rush made it clear to his listeners in 2016 that populism had overtaken conservatism. Why? Well, I can only surmise it had much to do with Trump. Rather than the blistering critiques we saw from Rush of McCain, Romney, Jeb, Rubio, and a few others, Rush excused and dismissed the conservative criticism of Trump going back to July 2015.

It’s fine for Rush to back or believe in anyone or anything he wants, but his easy and quick jettison of conservative purity at an opportune moment, especially after 25 years bashing others for their lack of conservatism, seems fraudulent to me.

  769. Wes says:

Bitter, if I give you a chance to display your complete, absolute, total, and utter ignorance, you will seize it with both hands, make seven trips around the world with it, and stencil it on the Moon for all to see.

Now to cover the fact that on the subject of American history, you’re a complete dumbass you claimed to be talking about generic leaders (despite the lack of existence of such people in the Senate before 1920). Then you gave this highly amorphous definition of Senate leader which only further proved you had no idea what the f uck you were talking about:

There were Senators who “lead” by being powerful and influential without having a title.

When I pressed you to name such a Senate “leader,” you predictably–again showing you knew nothing of what you were talking about–said Jefferson Davis.

Well, the only problem is that Jefferson Davis DID NOT meet even your amorphous standard of being a Senate “leader” since he was a backbenching first-term Senator in 1860, having only received his legislative appointment to the seat in 1857.

Thus, I have to thank you for proving once more you are nearly as ignorant of American history as Corey is of the feel of a vagina.

  770. Mr.Vito says:

Incredibly I happened to listen to Rush today for once in a blue moon, as I had to wait in my car for something this afternoon.

Suffices to say whatever Robbie is going on about is 99% editorializing. I just read that transcript to see what I must have missed, but whatever Robbie is talking about isn’t there.

  771. Chicon says:

  773. Bitterlaw says:

I will put my degree in history from an excellent school up against yours any day, Wes. I do not know where you attended college but I suspect it was not highly regarded. I could be wrong.

As for Jefferson Davis, I guess that he was chosen to be President of the CSA because he was held in such low regard by his contemporaries.

Wes the Genius did not think that there were any prominent Senators until they received a title in 1920. Most people think that Lincoln shot to prominence in part because of his debates with Senator Douglass. Of course, that is not possible according to Wes because Douglass could not have been a leader in the Senate.

  774. NYCmike says:

    “804 – stunning news, Vito.”

  775. NYCmike says:

Robbie is yapping about Rush, and at other times about Trump.

BUT, when I say that a Republican Congress should lead in a conservative manner by setting forth legislation, conservative in nature, for Trump to sign, Robbie says they can’t do that because Trump……WAIT FOR IT!……..TWEETS TOO MUCH!

Author’s buddies at Disney World couldn’t make this sh*t up!

  776. Bitterlaw says:

And Douglass was a Senator from Illinois before Delicate Flower tries to claim that I said he was a Southern Senator. My point was that there were Senate “leaders” before there was a Senate Majority Leader. Wes can’t grasp that concept.

  777. Mr.Vito says:

Any update on the condition of the Michigan officer that was stabbed?

  778. Mr.Vito says:

    The Wes-Bitterlaw feud is zzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Bitter hates the South. That just puts it 276th on the list.

  779. Wes says:

Now Bitterlaw twists my words to say things I never said. We go from leaders to prominent Senators to cover his ignorance.

    Keep digging, Bitter!

  781. Wes says:

It’s truly astounding how far afield you have to go from a poorly thought out comment to defend it, Bitter.

You’ve now given up on talking about ersatz Senate “leaders” who must have been worse than Harry Reid to discussing prominent Senators.

Under your definition, I suppose Liz Warren must be the Supreme Leader in the Senate since despite being little more than an annoying backbenching reflexive leftist, she’s probably the Senate’s most prominent member regardless of her dearth of achievements or leadership roles in the chamber since taking office in 2013.

That’s literally the road you’re going down to defend a moronic statement.

  782. Chicon says:

Vito, originally critical, but now stable. Sounds like he’ll be okay.

Good guess, but that’s not it.

  788. NYCmike says:

Warren, and Sanders, are probably the favorites at this point to get the 2020 nomination for their party, thereby giving them a pretty good amount of power, which shows Bitterlaw making a good point, as far as winning silly arguments go.

828 – Yes, that was me. I toured the grounds of his plantation house a few years ago, and his living grandson still lives in the house. Weird fact. Come of Tyler marrying a young girl late in life who fathered a son, who also in old age fathered the man who still lives in the house.

  793. NYCmike says:

-Republicans helped pass this……that is why the Republican Party in NY wallows in obscurity, needing Democrats to help them maintain the little power they have.

  794. DW says:

  799. NYCmike says:

  800. NYCmike says:

    Just screwing around DW……

  801. Bitterlaw says:

Tyler’s death was the only one in presidential history not to be officially recognized in Washington, because of his allegiance to the Confederacy. He had requested a simple burial, but Confederate President Jefferson Davis devised a grand, politically pointed funeral, painting Tyler as a hero to the new nation. Accordingly, at his funeral, the coffin of the tenth president of the United States was draped with a Confederate flag; he remains the only U.S. president ever laid to rest under a foreign flag.[150] – Wiki

I guess I now have to add him to the list of graves I would love to urinate on. I would not do it but I would like to do it. Robert E. Lee will always top the list.

  802. Mr.Vito says:

“828 – Yes, that was me.”

    Okay, that makes sense, then.

Honestly, I want to say I learned that other thing when I looked up the grandchildren tidbit you posted.

Fun graph in here on the GA6 polling.

So how does this keep happening? Well, it’s not that surprising in light of the fact that Democrats literally wrote a playbook on how to rig polling data through “oversamples.” As we noted last October in a post entitled “New Podesta Email Exposes Playbook For Rigging Polls Through ‘Oversamples'”, it all apparently has a lot to do with “oversampling” various minority groups.

The email even includes a handy, 37-page guide with the following poll-rigging recommendations.

In Arizona, over sampling of Hispanics and Native Americans is highly recommended:

    Research, microtargeting & polling projects
    – Over-sample Hispanics
    – Use Spanish language interviewing. (Monolingual Spanish-speaking voters are among the lowest turnout Democratic targets)
    – Over-sample the Native American population

For Florida, the report recommends “consistently monitoring” samples to makes sure they’re “not too old” and “has enough African American and Hispanic voters.” Meanwhile, “independent” voters in Tampa and Orlando are apparently more dem friendly so the report suggests filling up independent quotas in those cities first.

    – Consistently monitor the sample to ensure it is not too old, and that it has enough African American and Hispanic voters to reflect the state.
    – On Independents: Tampa and Orlando are better persuasion targets than north or south Florida (check your polls before concluding this). If there are budget questions or oversamples, make sure that Tampa and Orlando are included.
