Regardless, Moore and Strange in a runoff.

Time for Democrats to start raising another thirty million or so for the Democratic candidate to oppose whoever wins the runoff. Give until it hurts lefties. This seat is winnable! Trust me.

She says, “No.” (kind of rudely, imho).

But, in his heart of hearts he has never had more than a reluctant acceptance of the Trump presidency. And, anytime Trump stumbles, has a gaffe, makes a clumsy statement, they both are there to criticize, magnify any flawed efforts he makes, and generally berate him for a lack of finesse and diplomacy.

Like you, Trump’s initial comments didn’t raise any hackles in me. His comments, although not elegant, hit the key points needed — condemning all racism and bigotry. But, for those who still don’t think highly of the man, even his best moments don’t satisfy or sway any contempt they have for him.

If anybody thought the left would be mollified by Trump saying the right, politically correct words regarding the Charlottesville rioting, here is what a New York Times reporter said about Rubio and Cruz comments, which condemned the white racists:

“Here we have a supposedly objective journalist struggling to fathom how or why two people of color might genuinely abhor, um, white supremacy, instead linking their stances to rank ambition. “Sorry to be cynical,” he writes, but he doesn’t seem very sorry. In fact, he seems rather eager to smear two elected officials for doing exactly the right thing. Question: Is Lipton equally “cynical” about liberal lawmakers of color aggressively condemning flagrant racism? Stephen Hayes cited the tweet as a perfect illustration of why conservatives place virtually zero trust in the media’s capacity to cover them fairly. This slime job was so gross that I’m not sure even the DNC would have ventured down this path. But a no-fear-or-favor ‘reporter’ felt totally comfortable going there. Lipton’s bio also includes this line: “Transparency is a powerful tool.” Indeed. Cruz fired back:

    Ted Cruz@tedcruz
Gosh, you’re right. Because Nazis & the Klan have such love for Cuban-Americans. If only we worked for a paper that shilled for Stalin….”

  202. janz says:

Bitter’s position on racism is lopsided, IMO. If one reserves racism to be perpatrated by whites only, how objective is That rational? Uniting a country, composed of a melting pot of ethnicies, will only work if all races are seen to be subject to racial bias, no matter what their race is.

  203. SanDiegoCitizen says:

Here is an example of racism by a group of African-Americans in Georgia. Shouting down a Democrat with chants of “Support Black Women.”

Did the leftists press condemn this; no they ignored it. Glaring hypocrisy.

  204. janz says:

    SanDiego,

There are so many examples of racism coming from a multiplicity of races. White Nationalists hit buttons of white people. However, a distorted, biased mindset is rancid no matter what their tint or hue is — white, brown, black — when they deride or treat another with disdain or scorn because their color or culture differs from their own. And, when people apply racism to the act, rather than just the color, racial relationships will begin to improve.

To make it easy for Wes, I will also say I condemn black racists. I also condemn Hispanic racists, Asian racists and Inuit racists.

  210. Redmen4ever says:

Trump is bad for condemning all extremists. Translation: our extremists aren’t as bas as yours. Maybe they’re not bad at all.

Among the counter-protesters in Charlottesville were three elements: [1] Antifa, [3] Anarchists, and [3] BLM. Red, Black, Black. We’ve been seeing these groups repeatedly since the cancelled Trump rally in Chicago. We know that these groups bleed into the progressive left. The left has not drawn a cordon sanitaire to exclude them. Among these groups are individuals who show up repeatedly, at various rallies for various causes. I don’t know if these individuals are professional agitators or FBI infiltrators.

I am sorry the KKK/Nazi extremists have appropriated the term alt-right. Its original meaning was to something that didn’t quite line up on the supposed political spectrum. But, there it is. Other associated extremists include anti-government types. Both the extreme right and the left have their socialist and totalitarian elements.

Violence is escalating. To make a contrast: the Occupy Wall Street movement was mostly involved in trespass and disorderly conduct. To my satisfaction, the sexual assault, theft and other crime that occurred at Occupy campsites were almost all due to vagrants and ordinary criminals making they’re way to the campsites. Now, members of the extreme left are bringing baseball bats and projectiles.

  211. Redmen4ever says:

“CO2 is not the “control knob” of the climate

There is scant connection between higher levels of CO2 and warming. During the Ice Age, CO2 levels were 10 times higher than they are today.

There are many, many factors which impact climate – including volcanoes, wind oscillations, solar activity, ocean cycles, volcanoes, tilt of the Earth’s axis, and land use. CO2 is just one factor, and not the control knob of
    the climate.

Today’s levels of roughly 400 parts per million (PPM) of CO2 are not alarming. In geologic terms, today’s CO2”

  215. Cash Cow TM says:

“Prominent scientists are bailing out of the so-called “consensus” on
    “global warming”
Renowned Princeton Physicist Freeman Dyson: “I’m 100% Democrat and I like Obama. But he took the wrong
side on climate issue, and the Republicans took the right side.” Dyson also said: “What has happened in the
past 10 years is that the discrepancies between what’s observed and what’s predicted have become much
    stronger.”11
Nobel Prize-winning scientist Dr. Ivar Giaever, who endorsed Obama, now says President Obama was
“ridiculous” and is “dead wrong” on “global warming.” Dr. Giaever also said: “Global warming is a non-problem
… I say this to Obama: Excuse me, Mr. President, but you’re wrong. Dead wrong.” He further said, “Global
warming really has become a new religion.”12
Green Guru James Lovelock reverses belief in “global warming,” and now says, “I’m not sure the whole thing
isn’t crazy.” He now condemns the Green movement: “It’s a religion really. It’s totally unscientific.”13
UN IPCC Japanese Scientist Dr. Kiminori Itoh, an award-winning Ph.D. environmental physical chemist: “Global
warming fears are the “worst scientific scandal in history … When people come to know what the truth is, they
will feel deceived by science and scientists.”14
UN IPCC Lead Author Dr. Richard Tol bolts warmist narrative, calls Gore’s claims “complete madness.” “It
disturbs me hearing people like Al Gore say that he is worried about the future of his grandchildren. Complete
    madness.” 15″

  216. Cash Cow TM says:

EPA and UN policies are not an “insurance policy” against “climate
    change”
Would anyone purchase fire insurance on their home with a huge up-front premium but virtually no payout if
their home burned down? Only those who answer YES to such an “insurance” policy would like the “climate”
regulations “deal” offered by Congress, the EPA, and the UN. If we actually did face a manmade climate crisis
and we had to rely on the U.S. Congress or the United Nations to save us, we would all be DOOMED.

  217. Cash Cow TM says:

Danish statistician Dr. Bjorn Lomborg, the President of the Copenhagen Consensus Center, noted in 2017
about the UN Paris agreement: “We will spend at least one hundred trillion dollars in order to reduce the
temperature by the end of the century by a grand total of three-tenths of one degree … the equivalent of
postponing warming by less than four years … Again, that is using the UN’s own climate prediction model.”

  218. Cash Cow TM says:

The UN and other organizations push manmade “global warming” fears
    to further a political agenda
The UN and EPA regulations are pure climate symbolism designed to promote a more centrally planned
energy economy. The UN and EPA regulations are simply a vehicle to put politicians and bureaucrats in charge
of our energy economy and “save” us from bad weather and “climate change.”
UN official Ottmar Edenhofer, co-chair of the IPCC Working Group III, admitted what’s behind the climate
issue: “One must say clearly that we redistribute de facto the world’s wealth by climate policy … One has to
free oneself from the illusion that international climate policy is environmental policy. This has almost nothing
to do with environmental policy anymore.”17
In 2009, former Vice President Al Gore touted U.S. cap-and-trade legislation as a method to help bring about
    “global governance.”18

  219. Cash Cow TM says:

Climate activists and the media confusing carbon dioxide with
    “pollution”
Carbon dioxide (CO2) is not “pollution.” The term “carbon pollution” is unscientific and misleading. CO2 is a
harmless trace essential gas in the atmosphere that humans exhale (after inhaling oxygen).
Princeton Physicist Dr. Will Happer has said: “To call carbon dioxide a pollutant is really Orwellian. You are
calling something a pollutant that we all produce. Where does that lead us eventually?”24

  223. NYCmike says:

The more I think about this weekend’s activities, and see the comments on this blog and across the internet, the actions taken by the mayor, police, and antifa were coordinated from above. I don’t think the police meant for this to happen, but since they have to follow orders, they were useful tools.

I am also seeing that Obama tweeted something out that was very popular on Twitter. I am not sure why it took him over 8 years to share his thoughts on the matter. I am glad he and I finally have the same idea about the evils of hatred based on race.

  224. NYCmike says:

The KKK/nazis can have any belief they want, repugnant or otherwise, just like any other group. If they want to segregate themselves, so be it.

If they take those beliefs and act out against others, that is when I would look to get involved.

  227. NYCmike says:

Last paragraph from that Powerline article:

“This is why I supported President Trump’s initial statements about the Charlottesville violence, and was disappointed when he yielded to liberal pressure and denounced only the white supremacists who planned the original Charlottesville demonstration. They deserve condemnation, to be sure, but they are just one source among several of political violence, and nowhere near the most important one. The vast majority of anti-democratic violence comes from the Left–“antifa,” Black Lives Matter, Democratic Party activists like James Hodgkinson, and so on. Those leftists are all getting a free pass, and President Trump seems to have given up on fighting them with his latest statement about Charlottesville.”

  232. NYCmike says:

You also have Trump being blamed, by the media, for an “escalation” in North Korea, despite 24 years (actually, more than that) of appeasement and doing nothing.

    Are you kidding me?

The media will use any angle it can, along with Soros-funded groups and Democrats, to make Trump, as well as Republicans, look bad.

  233. NYCmike says:

    Robbie,

As lisab explained several times, she did not accuse you of being gay.

She stated she thought you were gay.

I am not sure why you would be so offended by that.

Oh, and by the way, I do NOT think Robbie is a racist.

    I do think he is a mainstream-media-licking-stooge.

I did not see much this weekend…but I do have some questions:
If the people with the permits, white nationalists/supremacists/nazis/KKK members, had their march and nobody else was there, would there have been any violence?
When Antifa marches, have they ever had a permitted march where there was NO VIOLENCE?

    – Whataboutism.

It’s not the KKK’s fault, the neo-Nazi’s fault, or the white supremacist’s fault a young woman was run over. It was antifa’s fault for protesting without a permit.

  235. Robbie says:

    NYCmike says:

The more I think about this weekend’s activities, and see the comments on this blog and across the internet, the actions taken by the mayor, police, and antifa were coordinated from above. I don’t think the police meant for this to happen, but since they have to follow orders, they were useful tools.
I am also seeing that Obama tweeted something out that was very popular on Twitter. I am not sure why it took him over 8 years to share his thoughts on the matter. I am glad he and I finally have the same idea about the evils of hatred based on race.

    – Smart take. The deep state coordinated with the mayor, the police, and antifa to allow the white supremacist march to get out of hand and kill a young woman so Trump would get blamed.

  236. NYCmike says:

    Robbie,

    It is not “Whataboutism.”.

Answer the questions, IF YOU ARE HONEST.

I am not excusing any illegal behavior. The driver of that car should be punished to the extent of the law, as should all of the other participants in any violence.

The media will use any angle it can, along with Soros-funded groups and Democrats, to make Trump, as well as Republicans, look bad.

    – I see you’re into conspiracy theories now. It’s all Soros’ fault. Got it. Has nothing to do with a president who is totally incompetent and has long played footsie with some pretty disgusting hate groups on the right.

  238. NYCmike says:

“– Smart take. The deep state coordinated with the mayor, the police, and antifa”

    -Actually, pretty simple.

And I already explained how the police have no choice, since they follow orders.

If you don’t think that a Mayor of a city, and antifa, are able to coordinate with others, then you are as naive as you are a boot-licker of the mainstream media.

It has been documented before, many times, and Saul Alinsky wrote a book about it.

  239. NYCmike says:

    “deep state”

    -Words I never used.

While I do believe there are sources of money aligned with certain interests, I will not use the term “deep state”, as I have no proof of that.

BUT, for Robbie to dismiss it out of hand is as bad as someone who buys into it without proof.

  240. Robbie says:

Everyone needs to get this straight. Donald Trump totally screwed up his initial response to the riots in Charlottesville that left a young woman dead. If he and his staff didn’t believe that was the case, Trump would not have given another speech on the topic Monday.

The riots had nothing to do with George Soros or antifa or the unfair media. They were the result of hate groups like the white supremacists, the neo-Nazis, and the KKK looking for trouble. The Hitler loving 20 year old who crashed into a crowd and killed a woman did so because of his bizarre ideology.

  241. NYCmike says:

” Has nothing to do with a president who is totally incompetent”

-Is Tillerson and Mattis just following orders?

I was speaking about No Korea in that comment.

  243. NYCmike says:

  244. NYCmike says:

The “fire can’t melt steel” nonsense is insane on the left and the right shouldn’t be delving into it.

I know it’s always easier to assume there’s someone behind the curtain, but the fact is Trump has brought this all on himself.

  248. NYCmike says:

“using threatening words like fire and fury is dumb.”

-Did you hear what Mattis said?

    http://www.cnn.com/2017/08/09/politics/mattis-pentagon-north-korea/index.html

“Washington (CNN)US Defense Secretary James Mattis issued a dramatic ultimatum to North Korea on Wednesday to “cease any consideration of actions that would lead to the end of its regime and destruction of its people” — strong words that come just one day after President Donald Trump warned that the US could unleash “fire and fury” on Pyongyang.”

    Double standard?

  255. NYCmike says:

    Wes,

I seem to be seeing some of the the same things as you.

We must both have on our Trump-branded glasses, isn’t that correct, Robbie??

  256. Phil says:

    Robbie,

The white nation type groups were looking for trouble. Agree on that. Not exactly a bunch of nonviolent types engaging in a candle light ceremony. Unfortunately, so were the leftist fringe groups who came from all over also looking for confrontation. I could list city after city that they have engaged in violence across the country in the last several years (Ferguson, Baltimore, St. Louis, Seattle, Portland, etc, etc – actually violent since the 60s if you want to go back that far. This was no exception and the video shows it clearly. Doesn’t justify the whacko white supremacist groups and their hate and behavior at all, but violent leftist fringe groups will always get a pass from the media but not from me. It takes two to tango.

Hate is hate. Pox on both their houses.

  257. NYCmike says:

I will also say one other thing about toppling statues.

I look at how Russia has, once again, allowed itself to vote in a tyrant/dictator, barely a decade after their statues were toppled.

I also look at how Muslims treat historical markers in places where they take over, demolishing statues of all other religions, and in some cases, Muslim ones of slightly different beliefs.

I DO NOT AGREE with the blanking out of this part of United States history. ALL kids should be shown the hatred that existed in our country, so that we make sure it is not repeated.

  258. NYCmike says:

    “Robbie,

The white nation type groups were looking for trouble. Agree on that.”

-I agree that there are some looking for trouble.

That said, of the people who organized and asked for permits, IF THEY WERE LEFT ALONE, would there have been violence?

  259. Phil says:

    Mike,

Good for Mattis. This kid gloves diplomacy over the last twenty five years has put us in the crappy situation we’re in right now with regards to NK missile technology and NK nukes.

It’s about time a NK dictator was actually given something to think about. The’ve had nothing but appeasement talk from the US for the last twenty years and they have taken full advantage of it. As a result, look where NK is today and the situation we’re in. ENOUGH!

  260. NYCmike says:

    “Good for Mattis.”

-Don’t forget to say “Trump is incompetent.”.

  261. Phil says:

    271

Probably not. You have to have someone to confront and the BLM and the other leftist fringe groups had no trouble providing it. The idea that they arrived in town as a bunch of peace loving choir boys and girls doesn’t fly. It never does. Too much video that says otherwise.

  262. Jonesy says:

  265. Phil says:

    What did Kaine say?

  266. Wes says:

  275. Phil says:

Jonesy, she was never going to retire. She won her senate seat in a presidential year when Romney crushed Obama at the top of the senate. I don’t know how Berg managed to lose that race with Romney winning the state handily but it happened. Heidtkamp has no real Republican A list opponent to worry about now. She as it made thanks to poor R recruitment.

  276. Phil says:

If you can’t beat her in a solid red state with a Republican landslide at the top of the ticket you may as well forget it.

  277. Wes says:

Phil, I still have it at a two- to four-seat gain for the GOP.

Congressman Kevin Cramer–who won reelection by 42 points last year–is mulling a challenge to Heitkamp.

She won in 2012 for a host of reasons, not the least being that Berg let her define him while he tried to coast.

If this march was left alone, we never hear anything about it, and Trump, as well as other Republicans, are not questioned about it.

This confrontation has set the narrative for the next weeks, and we shall see how long the media can keep pushing this angle.

  281. Wes says:

  282. NYCmike says:

    Exactly, Wes.

Kramer, an AT-LARGE REPRESENTATIVE, has a chance against an actual incumbent specifically because he, unlike other representatives from specific districts, has been elected to his office by the same voters as has the Senators of his state.

  309. NYCmike says:

  310. Wes says:

You guys said I didn’t know what I was talking about for calling MD out as a DNC shill when he spent nearly the entirety of the 2014 cycle coming up with every excuse imaginable to explain why Democrats would kick ass that year because supposedly “the past is not prologue!.” By the way, I didn’t wait till he left to say that either. I said it to him directly when he was here.

Well, now it’s pretty clear. MD is a DNC hack. He attacks the GOP for “winking” at racism while joining a party structured entirely around racism–a party that despises his very existence as a straight white male and quite likely regards him as a useful idiot–a chicken voting for Colonel Sanders, if you will–for allying himself with its miscreant malcontents.

  385. janz says:

There’s a parallel universe present between the reactions of those most intimately involved with the death of a young woman, versus those outraged by what they see as an insufficient statement from the POTUS last Saturday.

The former are the parents of the victim – her father “forgiving” the man who ran her down, and her mother “thanking’ the president for his comments. The latter are people, venting on blogs & social media sites, who are determined to express more repugnance than another poster by “out-scumming” them in calling white nationalists “scum,” over and over again.

IMO, solely focusing on one group’s brutality and bias, while turning a blind eye to other perpetrators of violence will only perpetuate more violence. The extremists on the right, whose numbers have been dwindling, will get a spike in membership, just from the publicity. The extreme left will feel more impowered by what they see as an acceptable mission of violence, by not being called out by the elite MSM and politicians, and will enlarge their disruptive presence even more.

This is just a taste of things to come. Expect more riots, more property destruction, more history alteration, and more people being beaten over the head with bats by the rent-a-mob left – with the protection of their liberal city mayors and the media of course. After all, Charlottesville demonstrated graphically that these people can get what they want through force with absolutely no consequences by the law or the media. They came to that city armed to the teeth with the purpose of inciting violence – which they got. Yet they were portrayed as martyrs by the establishment/media. Their violence was hidden away, and the group that they came there to silence was the only side condemned (not only that, but anyone who tried to condemn both sides was publicly chastised). Only one side can be denounced after all.

Imagine what kind of signal that sends to the antifa brownshirts.

This is what happens when the rule of law no longer applies equally to everyone. The left has willingly disobeyed laws they do not like without consequence for a long time (sanctuary cities as just one example). They live by the Alinsky-style mantra of ‘any means necessary’. And the longer they don’t face penalties for these things, the more brazen they will become.

We really do have two sets of laws in this country now.

I hope people like Rubio, Hatch, McCain ect. are really happy with themselves. In their wild-eyed haste to jump on the anti-Trump bandwagon, they gave credence to these violent thugs by attacking Trump for equally condemning both sides. This will do two things. 1) Embolden the leftist more as even the republican establishment wont push back, and 2) push more people towards these extremist groups.

When people no longer feel they have a voice for their concerns, then they’ll go to whoever is willing to listen to them. The Republican establishment is simply not willing or not interested in standing up to these thugs.

    Clothes?

But I’m planning the same celebration when Clinton wins that Joe Thornton has planned for when he scores four goals in a game. (Hockey joke? Check.)

Trump has to hope the exit polls are wrong.

As many have pointed out, you don’t have to look too far back to find when that did happen.

    It’s Election time, baby.

    Kick it into gear.

    Turn it up.

Isn’t MD’s wife a democrat? If so, then it’s not that surprising he would feel being affiliated with his wife’s political party was ok. Besides, MD is angry about Trump being president. And, joining the “resistance” assuages that hatred.

Can we all agree NOT to post totally useless ‘reports from the field’, and keep things reserved for the pontification, musings, scenario analysis and personal attacks that are the life blood of this blog?
    ***************************************************************

That was actually quiet funny, Cory; could have been a POTD type of thing. Too bad you had to remind everyone what an arsehole you can be by attacking Bitter personally for his vote.

“Conservative pundits are mad bc they fear they and Rs as a whole will be tarred w white nationalist association.”

-This is exactly correct, and I understand that wholeheartedly.

BUT, the answer is NOT to appease the critics, and the answer is DEFINITELY NOT accepting the narrative set by the media.

The answer is to HIT BACK TWICE AS HARD!

Trump should have condemned ALL of those groups on Saturday, as he did. He should have done it again on Sunday, as well as on Monday, calling for the media, and any private citizens, to release tapes of the protests to see who started things up, who participated in the violence, what the police actions were, etc.
