Generic poll average becomes even more fun if you don’t take it seriously. If you throw the polls only that were finished by July 31 the average would be 2.9. The media won’t be able to accept that. Robbie will need to go into a rubber room. Proud Obamacon will need protection from hurting himself. Therefore I predict that the generic number for the dems will increase to 5 and above. My question is a simple one — which polling groups will take the plunge and beef up the dem. number? Of course Quinnipiac has to be favorite but I believe that Marist will be right behind them. This time around I guess Quin. will come in at about +10 dem while Marist will take the leap and give the dems a +14 lead. That should support the narrative.

if the gop holds the house, it will be a significant achievement, because trump won’t get impeached

i really do think it depends on how vicious the kavanaugh hearings get, and which side, if either, overplays their hand

    and

the smart move would be to simply refuse to vote for kavanaugh as a united front. instead i imagine the dems will call for lots of protests, which could go badly for either side.

  9. lisab says:

    Zogby does not count

only the nytimes, cnn, msnbc, cbs, or npr count

  10. DW says:

Trump impeachment is an interesting question. First there has to be an impeachable offense. Nothing that has happened thus far is even close. If the dems attempt anything like that without any cause other than they hate him, it will backfire badly.

Second, it would depend on how deep and wide the blue wave is. If the Dems just barely takeover house control, there is no way they would get the numbers to impeach. If they flip 50 or more seats, then they probably at least float the idea. Trying it would be futile though because the senate would never convict. So they have little to gain and much to risk by trying it.

Besides, if Dems took over the house, Trump might just flip dem himself saying he wants to honor the wishes of the people.

  11. Phil says:

Which side will overplay their hand? I think we all can guess who that will be. The Democrats just can’t help themselves. They are unhinged.

Breaking… KING OF GOALPOST MOVING now saying that maybe GOP will suffer the average historical midterm loss, which would be hard to blame Trump for, unless you have TDS.

“If you forced me pick a number 89 days out, I’d probably go with a 30-35 seat loss.”

Absolutely hilarious, Amoral Scumbag beclowns himself once again.

  19. lisab says:

    ——————————————-

it will be russian collusion. the mueller report will undoubtedly support this.

they just want the hearing, day after day of bashing trump prior to 2020. also, i am not at all sure they would not vote to impeach with even a 1 vote majority.

as far as convicting, i am not sure the dem senators would not all vote to convict. at worse they could use no votes from the gop to run in 2020

remember, you are thinking rationally, the dems are running on revenge

  20. jason says:

actually wes has long pointed out that the average mid-term loss is about 30 seats

since this record goes back more than 100 years, it appears to be something built into the system that makes it difficult to buck the trend”

That is correct lisab, and contrary to Amoral Scumbag’s lies, nobody here has said this trend is bogus.

One can hope that maybe the good economy will help reduce the losses, which is different than denying the historical fact that in almost every case the party in power loses seats in the midterms, Trump or no Trump.

  21. lisab says:

    ——————————————–

yes, if you really belive trump is weighing the gop down, than you would expect the gop would do significantly worse than the mean.

one z-score below the mean would be -56 seats.

one z-score below the mean would not even be that unusual, but at least it would be clearly below an average president’s result

  22. jason says:

it will be russian collusion. the mueller report will undoubtedly support this.”

I don’t think so lisab, I think Mueller might try to make the case for obstruction, although that is horribly weak too.

There is absolutely nothing to indicate any kind of collusion.

  23. jason says:

yes, if you really belive trump is weighing the gop down, than you would expect the gop would do significantly worse than the mean.”

    Exactly.

And I offered that bet to Amoral Scumbag. If the losses are worst than the historical average, I donate to Democratic Party or whomever he chooses.

If the losses are less, he donates to the York Co. ASPCA dogs.

He won’t take the bet because he is a cowardly lying fraud.

  24. Wobbles says:

I am going with Lord Arsehat.

He predicts 60 seats, and that if Hillary requests a recount in PA, MI and WI she could still win.

  25. lisab says:

There is absolutely nothing to indicate any kind of collusion.
    ——————————–

you guys are thinking rationally and want actual evidence

i really do not think that is the standard the dems and mueller are going by

they are counting on the hard core dems saying, “SEE SEE WE TOLD YOU SO” and the media saying that too, and figure most regular people won’t pay too much attention

although … admittedly i have less faith in the dem party than you do … i really think they don’t care what the actual evidence is

that is just my opinion, but i rather think that much of the dem party faithful are like robbie. many of the people i know believe everything cnn and msnbc says

Oh, and speaking of funnel cakes…
I heard that in colonial times the Indians were uprising, raiding, and causing mayhem much more in the colony of VA than in PA.

And the reason for this was when hostile Indians showed up on the PA frontier, the settlers would hand the Indians some funnel cakes to munch on and that settled them down.

“We have had absolutely no information regarding that,” she said Thursday. “We have not seen anything with our system that something strange is going on.”

State officials also say they have no information to support Nelson’s claim.

    ****************************************
–Get a voting populace and place in a very large pan or bowl.

–Add in a whole passel of complex issues (that involve governing, passing legislation, etc.) that require thought and research.

–Throw in that fact that the populace has no time nor inclination to do serious research and has a collective attention span of 7 seconds.

–Mix in the fact that the populace no longer trusts the media or the government and is skeptical of and antagonistic toward both.

–Add in the Internet where rumor and non-factual stories become believed as truth and fact.

–Stir in a big dollup of willingness of the populace to believe in every conspiracy theory that comes down the pike and a significant portion of the otherwise sane populace believes in all sorts of goofiness from soup to nuts–proffered on the Intertube by various nuts.
(for instance, did you know that children are being snatched off streets throughout America and FedExed to CA where the Hollywood crowd does unspeakable acts to them and then ki.lls them and cooks & eats them at wild parties there?)

Bake the above in man-made global warming for 30 years, and infuse it the entire time with all sorts of drugs.

Expect to serve up huge helpings of nonsensical bullcrap being throw into discussions and expect insane and irrational actions of the populace.

Disagree that it was a late decision…….it is his job, after all. Couldn’t there be any legal issues which would arise from this situation?

In the interim, hadn’t his lead already shrunk, as well? He did nothing to interfere with normal procedures, as it should be.

  59. mnw says:

    Chicon 61

Thanks for asking. Retirement is kind of… multifaceted. After 30-plus years on the job, I feel a certain… empty space. I loved hanging out with my friends of a lifetime, & I’m trying to keep that up, but of course it isn’t the same. As for the work itself, I was slipping, & I knew it. It was clearly the right time to go. I’ve been retired for 3 months now, & I haven’t really established the regular patterns of my new life yet. It’s a work in progress. As in KS & OH-12, all the votes haven’t been counted yet.

Then there is this: Instead of identifying myself as, “I’m a [my former job title here],” I now have to catch myself & say, “I’m retired.” It helps that I have kids who are still in HS & actually NEED me for money, driving instruction, etc.

I agree with you about Kobach. He should have recused himself the day after the election.

  60. Chicon says:

Good morning, NYC. I get your point, but this is a topic he should have seen as a potential issue, imo. It’s a clear appearance of a conflict that he should have seen coming and had a plan to handle. If you disagree, you’re clearly wrong. 🙂
