    First! Go figure.

  2. sandiegocitizen says:

The Emerson poll was of registered voters, which likely tilted it a bit in favor of Democrats. Results the same as other polls. Biden has lead over Trump. Against other candidates it is a close race. Problem for Biden is far left Democrats will do everything possible to stop him in the primaries. Winning the election is secondary to pushing their agenda.

Check out this article and watch the video in full. She tried to use her influence as a Commissioner to intervene in a lawful police matter and berated the officers, insulted their intelligence, and resorted to profanity and threats.

She was subsequently censured by the entire NY/NJ Port Authority Commission for ethics violations and had her case submitted to NJ for further ethics violations.

She is a Dem political operator who actually was appointed to the Board by Christie and worked on HRC and Cuomo campaigns.

She sort of apologized after being forced to resign but still thinks the police need to do better training so officers can diffuse situations with idiots like herself. Unbelievable folks!

NYC Mayor Blasio accuses Amazon of abusing corporate power because they walked away from the deal in Queens. …and what power did they actually abuse here? Please do tell.

    Ha. Ha. Ha.

Where is his criticism of AOC, the dingbat socialist NY CongressCritter that helped kill the deal?

Why does Blasio not blame himself for not getting consensus in advance from local politicians? Part of the problem is that he and Cuomo side-stepped a bunch of folks and annoyed them to the point this resulted in a controversy. He failed to plan and shut down the radical left socialists like AOC.

  10. Tgca says:

Oh isnt this rich from the esteemed NJ Dem Senator Booker when asked to comment on the recent developments in the Jussie Smollet case after he immediately came out and called it an “attempted modern day lynching.” I’m sure there was no rush to judgment there and he chose his words very carefully. Now he says:

“I’m going to withhold until all the information actually comes out from on the record sources.”

How come he doesn’t withhold the same judgment on the Mueller case or other innuendo and leaks involving Trump or the GOP? It seems one should only await the facts and withhold judgment when it pertains to supporters of his own party.

but it gave the party plausible deniability

now they are openly stating what they always believed. it makes me wonder what they are not saying … like their stance on israel perhaps?

  20. SanDiegoCitizen says:

    11. “the dem establishment really needs to come down hard on aoc et al.”

The problem is when they do, the far left will break away and found a Social Democratic Party, which will divide the Democrats and help the Republicans. Pelosi and crew are trying the best they can to hold things together as the ice cracks beneath them. The Democrats are having their Titanic moment, and trying to stay afloat as best they can.

These are unusual political times; in 2016 the establishment of the Republican Party was displaced in what amounted to a Trump takeover of the party. Now the Democrats are fragmenting. In the future, historians will debate why this all happened.

  21. SanDiegoCitizen says:

    18. What poll are you looking at lisab?

  22. lisab says:

well … it happened because on the republican side the establishment kept saying they wanted to cut spending, cut taxes, end wars, cut illegal immigration, and end obamacare etc., and

they had absolutely no i tention of doing any of that.

on the dem side, it is because of the young turk syndrome. they are not content with a candidate that plays to the middle, because they say that it creates third party candidates to the left

they want a candidate that is unapologetically leftist

  23. SanDiegoCitizen says:

I think Jussie deserves an Oscar nomination. He cried like 3x in the GMA interview about being assaulted.

He also cried in his 1st concert appearance below where he tells the audience between tears and sniffles:

    “I’m ok”
    “I’m not fully healed yet”
“I’m gonna stand strong with y’all”
“I had to be here with y’all tonight”
    “I couldn’t let those motha f*** win”
“I will always stand for love”
“I hope you will always stand with me”

  26. SanDiegoCitizen says:

If your a Democrat, how do you respond to this; the far left used to all but worship Chavez:

“CUCUTA, Colombia (AP) — U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio on Sunday visited a border staging point for U.S. aid to Venezuela and warned soldiers loyal to socialist President Nicolas Maduro that would commit a “crime against humanity” if they block entry of the packages that are being channeled through Maduro’s rivals.

An enthusiastic throng of Venezuelan migrants, some chanting “Rubio! Liberty!” met the Florida Republican as he visited Cucuta and held a news conference in sight of a border bridge that has been flooded in recent months by Venezuelans people fleeing hardship in their own country.”

  27. Tgca says:

I heard Marco Rubio was at a foam party while in Colombia. Is that true LisaB?

  28. Tgca says:

I was taken back at title of article on Newsmax website.

Jussie Smollet Paid Brothers to Stage Fake MAGA Attack.

Thats a bit racist I think. Using street talk to refer to whom he supposedly paid. Why does Newsmax need to refer to these men as “brothers.”

Would they refer to them as Brothers if the men were white?

I think there’s a bit of white privileged in the title of the article and a reason why folks often view race relations through their own lens.

  29. Tgca says:

It’s just as bad as folks thinking I would refer to SDC or Michael as “sister” or “girlfriend.” It’s inappropriate.

…even though I chastised Michael for once referring to me as “honey” when he got defensive because I referred to him as chubby.

Media gets it wrong again. Wrong video on the Smollet attack.

New video shows two white guys involved. One is wearing a salmon colored jacket. The other a cardigan sweater and a red hat that says PHS 2018 Philadelphia Flower Show.

Police are getting in touch with the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society to see if they can track down the guy in the sweater and hat. They are confident they can track down the guy in the salmon jacket too because very few guys would wear such a jacket.

Stayed tuned for this ever changing story.

    18. Rasmussen is not to be trusted.

  38. Tgca says:

Take it for what its worth but TMZ claims Chicago is taking Smollet case to grand jury this week. See link below. I wonder why they’d do that without re-interviewing him unless they have enough evidence from the Nigerian SIBLINGS…using brothers is racist term SDC.

Article below says they also found a magazine with missing pages so I guess they’ll try to tie that to the letter the Empire show received regarding threats to Jussie recently.

If any of this is true, I’m wondering if this guy was just trying to get more famous. I never heard of him or the show prior to these attack reports.

  39. SanDiegoCitizen says:

    38. “using brothers is racist term SDC.”

So when the term “band of brothers” is used that is racist? Some religions and fraternal orders refer to each other as “brother” and “sister”. In Utah I often hear “brother” so so more than “Mr.”

  40. SanDiegoCitizen says:

    37. “18. Rasmussen is not to be trusted.”

    You share something in common.

  41. SanDiegoCitizen says:

Here is the text of a CBS story about the boys. Do not believe “brothers” is used with a racial connotation:

“The two Nigerian brothers arrested in connection with the assault on “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett are no longer suspects in the attack. They’re now cooperating with police.

A source close to the investigation confirms to CBS News the brothers told detectives Smollett paid them to participate in the alleged attack on January 29 and that they purchased the rope — which was found around Smollett’s neck — at a nearby hardware store. The source said detectives have evidence to corroborate the sale, something the men’s attorney alluded to Friday night.

“New evidence that was brought to their attention, obviously I had it, my clients had it,” said Gloria Schmidt, the brothers’ attorney.

The Chicago Police Department released a statement Saturday night saying information from the brothers had “shifted the trajectory of the investigation.”

  42. Tgca says:

Your white privilege just can’t comprehend that stating “Jussie Paid Brothers” is not racist. Perhaps if they stated “Jussie Paid Brothas” you would see the racism more directly. It’s totally racist! It’s like when a southerner says to a young black guy “Hey boy!”

Jadon is correct. They should have used siblings. White America is so out of touch dude!

  43. lisab says:

“If any of this is true, I’m wondering if this guy was just trying to get more famous. I never heard of him or the show prior to these attack reports.”

rumor is he was on the verge of being fired from the show, and this was supposed to protect him from being fired

  44. Bitterlaw says:

Here is the text of a CBS story about the boys.

Boys? Damn. It just got worse.

  45. Tgca says:

Is SDC tone deaf? 1st he sees nothing wrong with referring to the Nigerian siblings as brothers…and now, as Bitter points out, he refers to them as boys. I guess he did not see 42.

This is what happens when you live in Utah. I guess SDC would not understand if Mitt put the Nigerian siblings in a crate on the top of his auto and drove them about either and said they enjoyed the sight-seeing opportunity.

Argh! I guess this is how the other 53% think.

Well old Uncle Joe, has done what he can to please all the young Socialists loons in his base. On foreign soil, in Europe no less, he called America “an embarrassment.”

An embarrassment for Europe? First let’s consider history. My Father, and 100’s of thousands of others faught, or were wounded, or were killed in order to free Europe. That should buy at least a century of gratitude. Then after the Marshall Plan we rebuilt Europe from the ashes of a terrible war. That should buy another 50 years of gratitude. Then during the Cold War we stood watch over the Fulda Gap and western Europe against the threat from Soviet Union. That should buy at least another decade of gratitude. How dare he call America an embarrassment!

Oh but I know he was referring to Trump. Well sorry Uncle Joe, but Trump is right about Europe needing to shell out more money for their protection. The Nord Stream Pipeline will make Western Europe more dependant on Russia, nothing embarrassing about telling the truth. The flood of immigration from particularly the Middle East is crippling Europe and engendering a huge loss of cultural heritage and identity. And Obama and John Kerry signed a terrible treaty even though it helped business in Europe.

The only Embarrassment here is Uncle Joe. Since America has become an embarrassment he needs to go to India and open a dunkin donuts.

Very well put by Victor Davis Hanson.

“In sum, the Left and the administrative state, in concert with the media, after failing to stop the Trump campaign, regrouped. They ginned up a media-induced public hysteria, with the residue of the Hillary Clinton campaign’s illegal opposition research, and manipulated it to put in place a special counsel, stocked with partisans.

Then, not thugs in sunglasses and epaulettes, not oligarchs in private jets, not shaggy would-be Marxists, but sanctimonious arrogant bureaucrats in suits and ties used their government agencies to seek to overturn the 2016 election, abort a presidency, and subvert the U.S. Constitution. And they did all that and more on the premise that they were our moral superiors and had uniquely divine rights to destroy a presidency that they loathed.

Trump Violates Constitution and Undermines America’s Safety with Emergency Declaration
    FEBRUARY 15, 2019

This morning, President Trump unlawfully declared a national emergency over a crisis at the border that does not exist. The President himself even admitted that he “didn’t need to” declare an emergency but did so because he wanted to construct the border wall “much faster.” This is a power grab by a clearly desperate and disappointed President who failed to get what he wanted in Congress, and now is violating the Constitution and making America less safe, all to make good on a campaign applause line….

  80. lisab says:

Why allegations of a ‘coup’ against Trump are unfounded

First of all, removing a president from office using systems included in the Constitution is, by definition, not a coup. Removing Trump from office by following the guidelines of the 25th Amendment would no more be a coup than removing him from office through impeachment or, really, than voting for another candidate in 2020. It’s part of the system.

But, second, it’s not as though Rosenstein could simply have stepped up to a microphone and announced that the president was no longer president, any more than Michael Scott’s declaration of bankruptcy in “The Office” was sufficient for that task.

We’ve outlined this before. For a president to be removed from office under the mechanism included in the amendment, one of two things has to happen.

A majority of the Cabinet and Vice President Pence must agree that Trump is unfit for office, or
Pence and a commission established by Congress (which doesn’t currently exist) would have to reach a similar agreement.
If such an agreement is met, a letter is sent to Congress and Trump is out.

  81. Phil says:

2-Year Universal Basic Income Trial Shows One of The Most Common Worries Is Unfounded

A two-year study in Finland found that a randomly selected group of (unemployed) people who received a sum of money from the government every month worked no less than a control group (of unemployed people) – bolstering the case for a basic income as the world economy transitions to greater automation.

  87. SanDiegoCitizen says:

    87. The Finnish basic income program was considered a massive flop, and was not renewed.

“But the Finnish government’s enthusiasm for a pilot scheme, a European first which garnered worldwide attention, is petering out. Calls for extra funding for it were rejected and the two year trial will not be extended after next year.”

  88. lisab says:

you missed the important point …

the unemployed people, who received the basic income

    did not work less than

the unemployed people, who did not

  89. SanDiegoCitizen says:

    89. If people are working, what is the point of paying them? Finland abandoned the program because it was a waste of money, and it was felt detrimental to maintaining a solid work ethnic. By the way, Finland requires its unemployed to active search for work, and requires them to document their efforts to obtain unemployment pay.

  90. SanDiegoCitizen says:

The reason Finland created the program was to boost employment, not as a permanent secondary source of income:

“Finland’s two-year experiment to give people an unconditional monthly income did not boost employment, researchers have said.
From January 2017 until December 2018, 2,000 unemployed Finns received a monthly payment of €560, with no strings attached. The experiment cost the government €20m.
It was designed to see if a guaranteed safety net would help people find jobs and support them to take up employment without fear of losing out on benefits.
The recipients, who were selected randomly, would not lose the monthly cash if they found a job. Unemployment in Finland is currently 8.1%, according to Statistics Finland.”

Results from the experiment, released last week, found that it did not boost employment levels, but participants said they felt happier and less stressed.”

Here is the type of response that sourced Finland on guaranteed income:

“Marjukka Turunen, head of Kela’s legal benefits unit, told Kera News. “There was this one woman who said: ‘I was afraid every time the phone would ring, that unemployment services are calling to offer me a job,’”… Scott Santens, a basic income advocate and writer…says basic income redistributes power into the middle-class — namely, to turn down unappealing jobs.”

Unlike the U.S., Finland requires unemployed people to actively seek to find jobs. They will call unemployed people and offer them jobs; if they refuse their unemployment benefits will end. It has a fierce work ethic.

NC requires people on unemployment to actively seek employment. Regardless of employment status, those receiving benefits are no longer eligible for aid after 14 weeks.

    92. California requires the unemployed to seek employment too. But it is relatively easy to meet the requirement. From a blog:

“You are being too literal in your view of an acceptable job search. You are NOT required to apply to jobs in your field. You can apply for anything. Go online, submit three applications per week anywhere, document them, and send in the form to CA. It is very unlikely you will get a response. I’ve applied online probably 100 times and have heard back 4. Don’t worry about. Just apply for anything so that you can say you made the effort if it is so hard to find suitable openings in your field.”

In Finland the unemployed are regularly contacted by unemployment agencies with job offers.

in massachusetts you have to actively search for employment too …

In Finland, the work requirements from the unemployed have become more stringent:

“Next week more than 100,000 unemployed jobseekers in Finland will receive mail from the social benefits agency Kela informing them whether or not they get to keep their benefits intact for the foreseeable future.
The end of March marks the first three-month evaluation period since the introduction of the Sipilä government’s new unemployed activation model designed to wean jobseekers off unemployment benefits and get them into paid work or entrepreneurship.
If over a three-month period unemployed persons cannot prove that they have performed 18 hours of work, earned at least 240 euros from their own businesses or attended five days of employment-promotion activities, their benefits will be cut.
The benefits cut will amount to 32 euros monthly. The current labour market subsidy stands at 696 euros per month.”

I can’t imagine not looking for work when unemployed. When I was laid off, I felt so low and sad about my life that I was honestly thankful that I did not own a gun.
