    2nd.

@Limericking Joe Biden’s been at it a while; Nostalgia is part of his style. “The racists, you see, Were civil, to me,” He often recalls with a smile.

Biden is at 32% in the RCP average now — which is where Rudy was right before the first GOP debate in May ’07

Biden isn’t Jeb. But I’m still not sure he won’t end up being Rudy.

    if warren is the nominee

  5. lisab says:

how bad does joe biden have to be to make democrat insiders see elizabeth warren as a plausible alternative?

    he must be falling apart

  6. Phil says:

    Pretty bad, Lisa.

  7. John says:

In responding to Warren’s rise, Donny Deutsch told Brian Williams on the ’11th Hour’ show tonight that if Warren is the Democratic nominee the Dems will absolutely lose 48 states.

  8. SanDiegoCitizen says:

Biden is showing some backbone. This can only turn out well for him.

“Former Vice President Joe Biden told reporters on Wednesday that he was not going to apologize for invoking his ability decades ago to work with two segregationist southern senators to “get things done.”
A Fox News camera was rolling when Biden was asked if he was going to apologize for his remarks. The 2020 Democrat hopeful answered, “Apologize for what?”

    * * *

Booker said in a statement he was “disappointed” Biden had yet to issue an “immediate apology.”
“Cory should apologize,” Biden said in response on Wednesday. “He knows better. Not a racist bone in my body. I’ve been involved in civil rights my whole career. Period. Period. Period.””

  9. lisab says:

the thing is, that biden’s team have been protecting him

(all candidates have people who try to show the candidate in a positive light, not just biden)

but the dem insiders have more access … and now they are turning to warren!

warren once referred to the WEST coast of massachusetts!

biden looks very old in public, behind closed doors im guessing he is very bad

  10. dblaikie says:

9 Uncle Joe, chances are, will cave soon enough. However he should dig in his heels, you are right. We will see if he continues showing backbone. But there was one thing about his comments that creeped me out, “Eastmain didn’t call me boy, he called me son.” It is one thing to tolerate a racist for the greater good (wonderful socialist term). But it is another to have the racist call you “son”.

  11. lisab says:

    and strangely …

the dem insiders dont want sanders

that biden and warren are the preferred choice philosophically does not surprise me,

but that they dont want sanders politically surprises me

they must not like him as a person

    or

they think he cannot possibly win compared to warren

    that is scary

  12. lisab says:

biden is on night two of the debate

booker and warren get to pummel biden on his comments on night one

biden will come loaded for bear on night two, but harris is his only target

does he give her two blasts?

  15. jason says:

So it looks like civil war might not be out of the question for the Dems.

I was afraid they might invoke some kind of Reagan Doctrine regarding attacks on each other, but hopefully that won’t be the case.

If Booker can suggest Biden is racist, old and out of touch is certainly not off limits.

  16. jason says:

Dems won’t lose 48 states with Warren.

She is still probably guaranteed HI, CA, WA, OR, MD, CT, RI, NJ, IL, VT, MA, DE plus DC.

I could see a scenario where the rest is competitive if Rs can frame it as a referendum on socialism.

  17. jason says:

the dem insiders dont want sanders

that biden and warren are the preferred choice philosophically does not surprise me,

but that they dont want sanders politically surprises me”

Doesn’t surprise me. He is not a Democrat, even if he votes like one.

The insiders don’t like the idea of an Independent, no matter how far left, representing the party in the election.

It is one of the problems Trump had with the GOP insiders, albeit not the only one.

  18. Phil says:

Democrats seem to believe Biden is their best shot to the WH….however, they are placing a giant bet on a guy they have hardly seen in public – and the glimpses we have seen of him are rather clownish.

  19. jason says:

    Wow, pass the popcorn

    Bill De Blasio

JoeBiden is longing for the good old days of “civility” typified by James Eastland. Eastland thought my multiracial family should be illegal & that whites were entitled to “the pursuit of dead n*ggers.”

  20. jason says:

Arguably, Biden’s best demographic in the primaries is the black vote, especially in the South.

His opponents seem to be aware of this.

  21. jason says:

If Obama supports Biden as the nominee, he will issue a statement.

If he doesn’t, it means he doesn’t think Biden should be the nominee.

  22. jason says:

Trump might lose the election for the reasons we all know, but if he does he can’t really complain about the quality of the front runners opposing him

Joe Biden – 76 year old gaffe machine with tons of baggage and rapidly cementing a narrative that he is “not all there”.

Elizabeth Warren – 70 year old New England socialist known for faking American Indian heritage with limited appeal outside the liberal intelligentsia.

Bernie Sanders – Marxist 78 year old, enough said.

I know, they all have other strengths and can paint Trump with plenty of negative narratives too.

Still, I think if someone like Hickenlooper or Bullock was the Dem front runner Trump would really be screwed.

  23. jason says:

Often we wonder about the topics Trump chooses to talk about.

You have to wonder why Biden is talking about his relationship with segregationist senators.

  24. mnw says:

    50/48 & -2

    S&P hits all-time high. Doo-dah. Doo-dah.

  25. Phil says:

Yeah, a sane left of center semi moderate would be real trouble for Trump. Fortunately, for Trump the Democratic Party is rather light on those type of characters these days.

  26. Bitterlaw says:

IF it is proven that Iran was responsible for attacking tankers and shooting down US drones, will Tina support limited military action against Iran or will she accuse Trump of being a member of the pro-war GOP Establishment?

  27. Marv says:

Regarding the Iranian shoot down of the our drone, SOP is to destroy the site from which the AA missile was fired.

  28. Bitterlaw says:

Marv -Always good to see you. How are your 27 favorite MLB teams doing?

  29. jason says:

Bitter, I am sure Tina will be for any war Trump wages.

  30. Wobbles says:

    50/48 & -2

    S&P hits all-time high. Doo-dah. Doo-dah.”

    Fake poll.

Did you see what Trump said about Mika’s face?

  31. Marv says:

    Hey Bitterlaw,

I have only two favorite teams now, the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Both are in first place in their respective divisions. If either one falters, I will immediately bail on them and find some other favorite team.

  32. jason says:

In fairness to De Blasio, he also blasted AOC for the concentration camp comments.

  33. Marv says:

    Jason,

I think that De Blasio is still irritated with AOC over the Amazon deal.

  34. jason says:

    if warren is the nominee

the dems will lose worse than in 2016″

    I think so too.

But full disclosure, I even considered voting for Obama in the 2008 TX primary I was so sure he would be much easier to beat than Hillary.

I wasn’t alone in being wrong.

“I now believe he would be the weakest of the Democrat nominees,” Limbaugh, among the most powerful voices in conservative radio, said on his program. “I now urge the Democrat superdelegates to make your mind up and publicly go for Obama.”

“Barack Obama has shown he cannot get the votes Democrats need to win — blue-collar, working-class people,” Limbaugh said. “He can get effete snobs, he can get wealthy academics, he can get the young, and he can get the black vote, but Democrats do not win with that.”

  35. jason says:

    Sanity prevails…

“WASHINGTON – The Supreme Court got religion Thursday, ruling that a gigantic Latin cross on government land in Maryland does not have to be moved or altered in the name of church-state separation.

The justices reasoned that the 40-foot cross was erected nearly a century ago as a World War I memorial, not an endorsement of Christianity. But while their verdict could extend to other existing monuments, it does not offer a blank check to new ones.

The opinion by Associate Justice Samuel Alito concluded that the display does not violate the Constitution’s establishment clause because of its longevity and multiple messages. The vote was 7-2, with Associate Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Sonia Sotomayor dissenting.”

  36. DW says:

As to Warren, if she were the nominee, its a matter of comparing her profile against the key states that decide the election.

She holds NH and the northeast, VA, WA, OR, CO, but she won’t be able to flip NC, GA, AZ, IA, OH or FL.

Stands a decent chance to flip WI, MI and PA. NM might be a surprise flip to Trump.

  37. DW says:

37 – a presence of a cross does not force anyone to adhere to a religion. Just like the presence of a Golden Corral doesn’t force me to become obese.

  38. Bitterlaw says:

DW- But what about the all you can eat breadsticks at Olive Garden?

  39. mnw says:

How will there ever be “proof,” acceptable to those who demand it, that Iran is responsible for the attacks?

A videotaped confession by Iran’s president, perhaps?

There is a point at which the demand for “proof” becomes an ostrich-like insistence on avoiding the obvious.

  40. dblaikie says:

ABC is going after Uncle Joe and his sons connection with Ukraine big time. Joe may be toast.

  41. mnw says:

IRCG has in fact claimed responsibility for the drone shootdown.

Trump has clearly hinted at retaliation. Biden blames Trump, not Iran, & promises to go back to Zero’s JCPOA appeasement policy, i.e., “we’ve got Iran in a box.”.

BREAKING: Alabama Republican Roy Moore announces another run for U.S. Senate in 2020 after losing in 2017 amid misconduct allegations.

  54. Robbie says:

I can’t wait to watch the usual suspects in this forum rally behind good ole Roy Moore next year because *checks notes* “a pedophile Republican is still better than a Democrat”.

  55. New York CIty says:

    SEND A MESSAGE!

  56. Phil says:

I suspect Sessions will now enter the primary. Since anything under 50 percent requires a runoff I think Roy’s bid won’t make it to the GE.

  57. Wes says:

You just killed Mikey’s buzz, Phil. He was euphoric over the idea that Moore will be able to keep one more Schumer acolyte in the Senate.

  58. CG says:

    1. I don’t think Jeff Sessions will be running again for Senate and I also doubt that Roy Moore gets nominated in the end. I suppose time will tell. *If* Moore is somehow nominated, which again I doubt, it would be wrong for anyone to support him. Still, people here and elsewhere would. Sad.

    2. NYC continues to be delusional. While I have immense problems with the Trump Administration’s policy at the border, I have said that AOC’s “concentration camp” comments were “grotesque and despicable.” I don’t know why he feels I would have agreed with them.

I have had this discussion with people over the past couple of days over at left-wing dominated blog that NYC was too scared to keep participating in.

  59. NYCmike says:

“I have had this discussion with people over the past couple of days over at left-wing dominated blog that NYC was too scared to keep participating in.”

    -LOL!

  60. NYCmike says:

    “CG”,

You actively put down the Republican President while NOT comparing his actions to the actions that would have been taken by any Democrat.

That helps AOC, and her party.

  61. CG says:

    64 is illogical.

Trump took actions at the border in regards to family separation that *no* other President had ever taken. That is a fact.

It is also grotesque and despicable to say that the U.S. has opened a “concentration camp” in the historical sense she wanted to infer.

    Both can be true.

  62. CG says:

George Washington- “I cannot tell a lie.”
Roy Moore- “I don’t know if she was 15 or not”

Here’s a non-complicated solution. Roy Moore should not be a U.S. Senator and neither should the San Francisco Board members who want to cover a George Washington painting.

    Both can be true.

Here’s the difference though. Roy Moore probably committed crimes upon children and these crazy left-wingers in SF, as odious as we may consider their politics to be, did not break any laws, because America gives people the freedom to be idiots.

  63. NYCmike says:

You probably committed crimes too, as no evidence is needed these days to make such assertions.

Both you and Roy Moore should have your day in court.

I would not want either one of you to be Senator from Alabama if I had a choice in a primary.

  64. NYCmike says:

“Trump took actions at the border in regards to family separation that *no* other President had ever taken. That is a fact.”

-Did the personnel who enforced those actions do something illegal and/or immoral?

If the “families” being separated at the border had followed immigration law, would they have been separated?

  65. CG says:

Nobody has ever accused me of a crime. Unlike Moore, who has numerous people who have offered credible allegations against him, and for which he was never able to issue a firm denial.

I also have never been banned from a mall.

  66. CG says:

It could be “legal” and still wrong. Ultimately, that will be up to the courts as to the legality.

This is where that community college course could have really helped you.

  67. mnw says:

  70. Phil says:

Even if Moore were somehow to get the nomination, he would win the GE. Two reasons. The turnout with Trump at the top of the ticket will be much greater than in a special election. Second, any pretense that Jones presented that he was anything but a reliable vote for Schumer has been clearly disproven over the last two years. Moore would win a GE campaign in a presidential election year. Would I be happy about it? No…but at least the seat will no longer belong to a Schumer puppet. As I said, I don’t think Moore wins the primary so it’s a mute point.

  71. mnw says:

I’m concerned that Moore might be nominated again, this time because of the fractured GOP primary field. Moore’s JA among GOP primary likely voters is surprisingly (to me) pretty good.

I don’t have any confidence that Moore could win the GE, even acknowledging everything Phil said in post 74. Trump has recently said as much, too.

I would like to see non-Moore primary voters rally around ONE alternative candidate, but that seems like wishful thinking so far.

  72. jason says:

I never did find the allegations against Moore “credible”. They may or may not be true. In any case I was clear here way before these allegations that there was no way he should have even been allowed to run as a Republican.

Moore is despicable scumbag that has no respect for the rule of law and twice lost his position on the AL Supreme Court because he thinks he is above the law and that his oath to follow the Constitution doesn’t really apply to him.

But wes is right that people like NYC, who considers Moore an acceptable candidate just because he is a conservative, are responsible for the fact we have a little Marxist turd of a union hall lawyer representing Alabama.

The AL Republican Party should kick Moore out of the party. They won’t because they are afraid he will run third party.

    I would take the risk.

  73. jason says:

I don’t think Moore wins the GE even with Trump at the top of the ticket.

Plus he will hurt Trump in others states because the MSM will have a field day portraying him as representative of the R party.

  74. NYCmike says:

    “could be” = key words.

ILLEGAL immigration IS illegal. No “could be” about that.

  75. NYCmike says:

“who considers Moore an acceptable candidate”

-I consider him acceptable against a Democrat in a general election, IF the primary voters choose him.

Despite what jason and Wes claim, I never wanted him as the Republican choice in the general election.
