Biden Leads Democratic Race in SC By Either 4% or 28%

Change Research and The Post and Courier have come out with a poll for the race in South Carolina that goes against the idea that joe Biden is running away with things on Saturday.

Joe Biden 28%
Bernie Sanders 24%
Tom Steyer 16%
Elizabeth Warren 12%
Pete Buttigieg 11%
Nobody Else Mentioned

This poll was done February 23-27 among 543 likely primary voters. Meanwhile, some polling outfit called Starboard Communications (linked in the article above) throws their lot in with the “Biden in a landslide” narrative by showing Biden hitting 40%.

Joe Biden 40%
Tom Steyer 12%
Bernie Sanders 11%
Elizabeth Warren 9%
Pete Buttigieg 9%
Amy Klobuchar 6%
Tulsi Gabbard 2%

This poll was done February 26th among 1102 likely primary voters.

Notice how the sp500 just noisedived before close. No one wants to hold equities over the weekend corona news drops so they plan on selling off on friday, but of course the market anticipates this so it sells of thurs afternoon.

It was doing this in early january too to avoid weekend news the first corona scare (when the market decided to ignore things)

  10. Victrc says:

So it appears as if Bloomberg’s first debate performance will rival Jeb Bush’s as the most campaign deflating in history, though Bloomberg will get more than the 3 delegates Jeb got.

Still, the move out of Bloomberg and to Biden has been insane. It could now be that sanders and Biden get to the convention with nearly the same amount of delegates.

I wonder if Biden et al still want to see how it plays out at the convention anymore. My bet is not…hypocrites

Either Bernie or Biden would be fine with me. Both are going to lose, unless they can convince us that the world is about to end with a pandemic and it is Trump’s fault. In my view that is the only possibility to bring about Wes’s bold and certain prediction that Trump was toast after 2018. On the RCP average Trump is now above 46.

Phil, we agree that Mad Cow Joe will enjoy a comfortable SC win on Sat.

But you seem to minimize or overlook the fact that Pony Soldier is *BROKE*. His campaign is running on fumes and cannot sustain a national campaign. He’s not on the air ANYWHERE.

Not so with The Bern and Nanny Bloomberg. They got the $$$. And Warren, Buttplug, & Klob aint gonna get out in the short-term

So I advise holding off on the coronation of Mad Cow Joe in Milwaukee. He is not well (perhaps in the early stages of dementia).

His health, the fact that Bernie will be there to the bitter end, and that most probably no one has a majority of delegates going into the convention make it more likely that Pony Sodlier will *NOT* be the nominee.

    -No, he just collects dividends.

    Well deserved.

  25. Paul says:

I liked Mike Bloomberg briefly, but I’m reluctantly coming around to Bernie Sanders.

I think he will be the smarter option for the Democrats because it is really about getting base turnout. Here’s my basic math from people in my community and church. All the old Democrats (most of my church) will vote. They won’t stay home just because Sanders is the nominee. AND, they most certainly will vote for any Democrat over Trump. Younger people I meet will vote if it is Sanders but less likely to be motivated if it’s not. African Americans that I talk to say they won’t vote for Bloomberg at all. So, my calculation is that there is more “base” voter gain with Bernie than “swing” voter gain with Mike Bloomberg.

Biden up over Trump by 9 and Bernie by 8.

Good God. I have seen two different polls of Wisconsin in the last two days showing Trump either leading there or, at worst dead even.

Now, given all that, who could possibly believe Trump is down by 8 or 9 points nationally?

I don’t take FOX polls seriously.

  41. Tina says:

Phil, looks like, according to the tweet, it’s a Drat plus 12 poll.

Funny how the dynamic of this race has changed in just a few days due to the last two debates. Mini Mike doesn’t seem to be that formidable even with his billions…and the establishment is terrified of Bernie.

It will be interesting to see what next Tuesday brings. I still say Texas is the key. If Bernie wins there he rolls, if Biden recovers, then its anyone’s ballgame. He could actually get the nomination for Senate…I mean the other Biden, wait, I mean the Democratic Nominee for President. Stand up Chuck

  47. Phil says:

Agree, Victrc that if Sanders were to somehow hold off Biden here in Texas that would be significant. Not counting on it, but we crossover Republicans will do our best. Sadly, probably won’t be enough, but we can probably add a point or two to Bernie’s total.

I, too, don’t know which Biden Texas Democrats will go for. Maybe they will split the Biden vote between the two Bidens. LOL.

  51. Phil says:

Yeah, her losing her own state is as bad as it gets. If that doesn’t dry up her $$ I don’t know what will. She’ll have to get out, and withdraw to the reservation. On the other hand, with her ego, Maybe not.

  52. DW says:

How quickly things change. Just a few weeks ago, Fauxcahontas was pushed as having a revival due to her takedown of Bloomberg. Bloomberg was the rising star, but now has exploded like a meteor instead. Biden was it, until he collapsed. The flavors of the day keep changing because they are all CLOWNS.

Sanders is the only one with staying power, so he will get the nomination.

  53. SweatyToothedMadman says:

  54. DW says:

Phil’s worries about Sanders not making it are needless.

  55. Phil says:

    Maybe, DW. Maybe.

I know one thing. If, and I do mean IF he shows up at the convention with the most delegates but his lead is only 300 or so delegates…..the Super delegates, Bloomberg, Biden etc will get together and pull out all the stops to take it away from him on the second ballot. A Bernie nomination will be Pelosi’s worst nightmare as far as keeping the House.

  56. SweatyToothedMadman says:

#59, and Phil, if that happens, Bernie and his bros will raise hell and split the party… I agree w/ you, the Dem establishment will screw Bernie and his supporters out of the nomination. Then – whoever their nominee is – is screwed for Nov. with an alienated Bernie and his base taking a walk.

The Dems have a Hobson’s choice:

    1. They may not win with Bernie
    2. They cannot win without him

Yeah, right. Invalidate every single vote cast in the Dem primary and give nomination to someone else? That stuff might have worked in the late 19th century, but not today.

  59. Phil says:

For you numbers junkies, Silver’s got a neat spreadsheet showing projections of delegates won based on three scenarios out of S.C.

A Biden blowout win – Sanders comes out of Super Tuesday with 39%, Biden 29% of delegates chosen so far.

A Biden relatively close win – Sanders 42, Biden 24

    Bernie win – Sanders 50, Biden 15

Check it out. Interesting state by state numbers breakdown for each state by candidate,

  60. DW says:

63 – That 39% of delegates for Sanders after ST is the number I had come up with, given a big SC win for Biden. That’s why I was glad for those polls yesterday. If Sanders gets a knock-out punch to the field on ST, then the chaos is over. Good to drag this out. Force them to bloody each other up some more.

  61. VictrC says:

For everyone, 270towin has a great delegate tracker and potential delegate distribution which is based on the average of all the polls. They update the polls daily so you get a good look at where each state race is.

they still have Bernie going to the Convention with a 300 delegate advantage over Biden.

I still say Bloombergs strategy is that he is going to be better positioned because of money to win, and that he should be the consensus candidate. I can still see that as an option

No way, even with a blowout win Saturday, does Biden get to the convention with enough delegates to win, and looking at the states, I don’t see him having more than Sanders, but it could be closer.

A three-week long poll, so hard to say how accurate.

  65. jason says:

“Even as new outbreaks are reported around the world and we edge towards pandemic levels, the situation is stabilizing in some areas where infections were first detected and people are starting to return to normality.
In China particularly, there has been a major drop in the number of new cases reported in the past week, particularly outside of Hubei, the province where the outbreak began. This has led some areas to lower travel restrictions and begin the slow process of getting back to work.

Liaoning, a province in northeastern China that borders North Korea, was the first to downgrade the coronavirus emergency response level from the highest level — Level 1 — to Level 3 on Saturday, according to a statement by the provincial government. This was followed by Shanxi, Guangdong, Yunnan, Gansu and Guizhou, accounting for some 305 million people.
In Hong Kong too, where actions taken by the semi-autonomous Chinese city appear to have avoided an outbreak on the scale of the 2003 SARS crisis, there is a sense of very gradual relaxation. Although two people have died from the virus and the number of confirmed cases continues to rise — it is now more than 90 — an increasing number of the city’s residents are beginning to slowly venture back out and about again. Some are even dispensing with face masks, previously a rare sight.”

  66. BayernFan says:

Proof that the virus will Peter out and that things will be fine is that the Dems are going all in on it.

  67. SweatyToothedMadman says:

I agree with this morning’s analysis here. The Dems are screwed.l Pony Soldier is broke and addled. Mini Mike is arrogant and without a base constituency.

Jason I read the news about a vaccine coming out of Israel. It seems heartening. It reminds that the answer to this virus will be driven by the power of Capitalism. There is a pot of gold for the company who can develop an effective vaccine and get the glory of saving many lives. I am confident that when a vaccine is discovered the testing will be accelerated.

I wonder how long it will take for the truth to come about this virus. One just has to look at the stats to see that if the virus is treated quickly, at an early stage the mortality rate will drop. The sad truth is that there is a great difference between China’s healthcare and Korea’s or Japans or Europe or the good ole US.

  69. dblaikie says:

I get tired of the people who like to drone on about the 50 million who died during the Spanish flu. That was in 1918 for goodness sake. I believe our ability to treat the complications from a virus have improved in the last 100 years!

Another fact that no one wants to report is that a huge percentage of people who get this virus have very mild symptoms or no symptoms at all. In fact it those folks who are spreading the virus.

As for SC Primary, I will be interested in how Steyer does. Should he finish a strong third or even second, he may be positioned to take Bernie supporters who are afraid of his goofiness, Biden supporters who are afraid of his dementia, and Bloomberg supporters who like Steyer for his money and height.

There are at least two companies in the U.S. rapidly working on a vaccine for the coronavirus. The question is how long government regulators will do their usual footdragging.

“An American biotech company says it created a coronavirus vaccine three hours after getting access to the virus’ genetic sequence in mid-January, and now scientists are racing to get the vaccine on the market in record time.
Inovio Pharmaceuticals is based in Pennsylvania, but scientists in its laboratory in San Diego made the discovery.
“We were able to rapidly construct our vaccine in a matter of about three hours once we had the DNA sequence from the virus available because of the power of our DNA medicine platform,” Dr. J. Joseph Kim, Inovio’s president and CEO, told FOX Business. “Our goal is to start phase one human testing in the U.S. early this summer.”

Several days after her positive test, she developed symptoms and was taken from the cruise ship to Japan where she remained hospitalized on Friday.

Do people remember the bird flu epidemic in 2008? — it killed millions, or at least was projected to do so. I attended several meetings where public health officials claimed there would be massive illness and death.

“The H5N1 influenza virus, also known as “bird flu,” may well be more prevalent and less deadly than health officials had thought, according to a new study published online today (Feb. 23) by the journal Science.

The World Health Organization (WHO) reported 586 human cases of the H5N1 flu since 2003, and notes that as of Feb. 22, 59 percent (346 individuals) of those people had died.

But this 50-percent-plus mortality rate may be misleading, according to the new study led by Peter Palese, chairman of the department of microbiology at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. That’s because the cases reported by WHO include only people who were sick enough to go to a hospital and be laboratory-tested for the virus. For WHO, to get counted, a person must have an acute illness and fever within a week and test positive for exposure to the H5 protein that gives the virus part of its name.”
