Super Tuesday Election Night Thread

I’ll put this up a little early today so people can start making predictions (also I won’t be able to post until much later tonight). I could have posted a bunch of polls for Super Tuesday but with Pete Buttigieg and Amy Klobuchar both dropping out since Saturday, most of those polls are basically useless at this point.

The only real question in my mind coming out of tonight will be whether Joe Biden or Bernie Sanders has a delegate lead. If it is the former I think the Democratic race will effectively be over and the drumbeat for Sanders to drop out (which of course he won’t) will be the only discussion left in the Democratic primary race.

If Sanders has the lead, then the drumbeat for Warren and Bloomberg to drop out will be just as defeaning so that Biden will eventually get a delegate lead before the convention.

After seeing what happened in China, and how hard it was contained, and what the death rate was for people based on age, our Orange Grabber has decided that trying to contain it isn’t worth the $$ it will cost. You are expendable, but the stock market is not. After all, if it kills more people of retirement age, then it will reduce the expenditure in social security, less stock will be cashed out, as it will roll over in their inheritance, and there would be less of a burden on society. Win-win for those that are focused on the market economy. Sickening!

  3. VictrC says:

couldn’t agree with you more. If Bernie comes out with the delegate lead there is going to be huge pressure for Bloomberg to get out. not so sure about Warren as she takes more from Bernie than she does Biden.

Also think that a straight up Bernie vs Biden race might be bad for Biden. Bernie’s rallies will get bigger and louder whereas Biden will have a hard time drawing people unless its a “forced crowd” situation that is there to support the nominee, not Biden

There is just no energy in a Biden candidacy at all. Let’s face it, he’s the default candidate because Bloomberg was HORRIBLE in the debates. If Bloomberg had been even Ok in the debates Biden would have been asked to leave.

Best thing that ever happened to Biden was the Bloomberg debate

  4. Big Joe says:

I’ve always been skeptical of the possibility of contested conventions in this modern electoral age, but amazingly I think we are headed in that direction. The Dem party is simply too fractured.

  5. VictrC says:

I’m having a hard time seeing why the left is having a problem with Trump’s response to the coronavirus situation.

Well, I know why, they see a tragedy and immediately had their lackeys’ the MSM blame Trump because that’s just the kind of people they are, but seriously, what could be the legitimate complaint.

He was quick to stop travel to the infected areas, has given money to fight the effort. Etc. What’s the complaint?

  6. Dan says:

re: 5. “What’s the complaint?” He has called it a “hoax” multiple times and went so ludicrously far as to say that Democrats want the virus so it will hurt Trump. Of course not a single Democrat has said any such vile thing. Meanwhile, people have died from his “hoax”. Plain and simple.

  7. Tina says:

    “He called it a hoax”

    Link please.

  8. Victrc says:

Tina. That’s an outright lie the Dems are pushing. It’s been fact checked by even liberal media outlets and they said it was false. The only ones trying to gain political benefit from the crisis are the Dems as usual.

What Trumo clearly said was that the Dems trying to blame him for the corona virus (the liberal media called it the trumoviris) was a hoax.

His response to the virus has been excellent starting with banning flights months ago, something called racist st the time

Dems will send to any low they can to take him diwn

  9. Phil says:

#6. Knock it off. Trump never called the virus a hoax. I’ve seen the tape multiple times. The tape is exactly as Tina just described it.

    Cut the crap.

  10. Tina says:

Oh I know. That is why trump is not getting blamed and his handling of the crisis has help up.

  11. Tina says:

Here is the doctor the jebots claim that was muzzled.

  12. Phil says:

According to 538, here are the number of delegates each candidate will earn tonight if the 14 states go exactly as the 538 site projects.

    Biden – 461

    Sanders – 445

    Bloomberg – 269

    Warren – 155

Obviously, the primaries tonight will not go exactly according to these projections. Any variation of under or over performance by any of the candidates throws off the delegate projections across the board. This DOES give us a baseline, however.

Texas exits look good for Bernie.

  14. Hunter says:

Retards, 22 people died from the Tornado yesterday. 9 have died from the Carona Virus. Where’s the outrage libs? Bunch of libtards.

  15. jason says:

Ok, seriously now, a lot of comments on social media that the exit poll demographics look somewhat good for Sanders, only 14% black across all states and 18% Hispanic.

  16. Proud Obamacon says:

Oh really? King Orange has handled this well? Charging Americans thousands of $$ to fly them out of China , test them, and quarantine them?

You think if someone with symptoms is uninsured or underinsured that they gonna report themselves? And then get charged for it? I don’t think so.

Bungled response is what this is, and its not surprising at all when you have cronies and empty suits in charge.

  17. Hunter says:

#16 You’re a retard. The response has been great. Only a few cases. Travel restrictions. Experts leading Pence’s task force. Brilliant response actually you dumb thug.

  18. PresidentPaul! says:

I don’t think Bloomberg cares what the drum beat says. The DNC probably never wanted him in it to begin with.

  19. Big Joe says:

For the first time this season, I’ve decided to watch election night coverage live. I look forward to providing some commentary from the centrist-left perspective. I think we now have all lanes covered. 😀

    Big Joe

  20. Phil says:

I’ll be watching my own state of Texas early just because Texas politics interests me. The early vote (over a million cast in TX through Friday’s last early voting day) will be released when the polls close at 7 Central time. If Bernie doesn’t have a pretty healthy lead when those are released he’s not going to hang on here. Those votes were all cast prior to SC and the Monday dropouts. If Sanders is behind when those are released the numbers will just get worse and worse for him as the night wears on and the post Biden election day surge is counted. That means he will have an awful night – not only in Texas but probably across the nation.

I’m just guessing here but I think Biden wins here by around 3-5 points. It could even be worse. Who knows though. Maybe the socialist surprises us and hangs close.

  21. jason says:

Drive by Dan troll is a lying scumbag.

Trump never called the Coronavirus a hoax.

On the other hand, plenty of moonbats have termed the virus “an opening for Biden” and Proud Obamacommunist has been here rooting for an economic crisis because it would be bad for Trump.

    GFY Dan.

  22. Tina says:

    Yup trump protecting pharma

No such thing. Another retard ready to turn us into Venezuela.

  24. jason says:

They are both socialists, only one is pretending not to be.

(I knew he was a fake)

  27. jason says:

There is no centrist-left in the Dem party. Certainly not Biden.

But Big Joe probably fits the bill, a dinosaur from the days the Dems did not hate their own country.

  28. jason says:

Bill Kristol the managing editor of Weekly Standard endorses Demented Joe for president!”

    We are all Democrats now!

  29. Phil says:

No argument from me, Jason. I should have said the socialist not trying to wear the mask.

  30. Tina says:

The socialist son is a real republican

I read it here from bl.

  31. jason says:

Will make a good Bernie ad…

  32. Phil says:

You have an airborne virus and somehow Trump is supposed to magically prevent it from spreading.

  33. Scooterboy says:

It appears Dan ran away to hide after he was called out on his lie. Does that surprise anyone?

  34. mRviTO says:

An elected Democrat in Colorado retweeted “solidarity” at a post by someone who said if they got the coronavirus, they would attend as many Trump rallies as possible.

Come on Jason. I need points for this! 😀 😀

I think I know why I’m barred from the A-hole gang. I’d lap the field in points in record time.

Yeah, but I don’t think any are voting for the socialists…

  42. jason says:

Maaaan, that’s not right, Jason. But awright. It would have been tough keeping up with my skyrocketing tally anyway.

  45. Tina says:

    The compromise candidate is Hillary.

  46. Proud Obamacon says:

” I look forward to providing some commentary from the centrist-left perspective.”

BJ, whatever you say bruh. All I see from you is right wing talking points. If you’re really Center-Left, show it or be a loooosah!

  47. Tina says:

    CBC News Alerts
The World Health Organization has examined the data and believes the decline in coronavirus cases in China since the end of last month is real. The agency says with similar aggressive containment measures, other countries could also see a decline

  48. Big Joe says:

“All I see from you is right wing talking points. If you’re really Center-Left, show it or be a loooosah!”

    More points!

    Big Joe

  49. Big Joe says:

OK points are fun, but let’s get into some analysis.

So MSNBC is reporting the following current delegate numbers:
    Sanders: 60
    Biden” 53
(not gonna paste other as they are not important)

So .. basically it’s a tie. Biden’s SC win has reset the campaign. As they say in baseball when a team ties it up, it’s a brand new ball game.

This is now a delegate game. Whoever walks away with the most delegates becomes the front runner. Some will say Biden has already regained his front runner status, but today will be a validate or rejection of that.

Should be an exciting night simply because there have been so much upheaval since Saturday that the polls can’t be trusted.

    Big Joe

    Mr. Vito,

My fellow members of the herd say VA will be close between Bernie and Biden.

Biden will garner most of the AA vote…

The VA cows say Biden will edge Bernie in VA.

Bloomberg will get about 16-20%, due to his big ad buy…certainly not his debate performances.

  52. PresidentPaul! says:

I honestly think the Bernie bros are just gonna sit home if Biden somehow wins the nomination.

  53. PresidentPaul! says:

US stock market is becoming Japanified.

  54. Big Joe says:

Per NBC News: “About 1 in 10 voters said they waited until Tuesday to decide on their choice, and another 19 percent of voters decided in just ‘the last few days.’ ”

Biden has late momentum, seems like a good sign for him.

    Big Joe

  55. Cash Cow TM says:

    But Biden has the “Joe-mentum.”

Another thing that thjrows a monkey wrench in this is how many states have early voting and how many have already voted for Klobuchar and Buttgig whose names are on the ballot…even thought they now decided to drop out and support Biden.

Klobuchar’s TV ads (bad as they are) are STILL running on Washington DC TV stations that blast all of NOVA and beyond.

  60. Cash Cow TM says:

I am puzzled as to how FL will turn out…how much of the vote Bloomberg will get.
I would be surprised if Bloomberg won FL…

I still say FL will be like VA with being highly competitive between Bernie and Biden and Bloomberg being a respectable 3rd…

  64. Scooterboy says:

    Biden wins Viirginia

  65. PresidentPaul! says:

I still think we’re better off against Biden because if Biden does win it’s not as big of a deal, and I also think the Bernie Bros won’t vote for Biden in the general anyways.

  80. Phil says:

Bloomberg’s dismal performance tonight means none of this tonight matters. Bloomberg’s not hitting 15% anywhere so far statewide or in districts. No delegates at all. He will drop out tomorrow and this thing is over. He has no choice. Biden will have the non Bernie lane all to himself. It’s all she wrote. Over as of tomorrow.

    Trump vs Biden.

Only reason I am hanging around is curiosity about my home state.

  81. Big Joe says:

  82. Cash Cow TM says:

  84. Cash Cow TM says:

I would like to take this time to thank billionaires with more money than brains like Tom Steyer (whoever he is) for helping the Trump economy and spending hundreds of millions of dollars in a foolish and failed attempt to win the D nomination.

And also thank Bloomberg for boosting the economy by spending even MORE hundreds of millions in his failed and foolish attempt to buy…err…win the D nomination.

  85. BayernFan says:

    Big Joe

  87. Cash Cow TM says:

Sadly, whoever is the eventual D nominee will gain about 10 points vs. Trump among GE vote totals due to the Trump jerk factor, where DJT almost always goes into overdrive to act like a jerk and alienate voters.

I am not sure what previous president in modern history would even come in a distant 2nd in regards to the jerk factor. even BJ Clinton and GWBush were at least likeable people.

  88. phoenixrisen says:

Once again–it is proven that these people who thing they can totally bail on Iowa, New Hampshire and Nevada and then white knight it on Super Tuesday (a la Guiliani) it’s a total no go. what a waste of money.

  93. BayernFan says:

Biden will get momentum bc the later states for Sanders won’t be noticed by the electorate as much as Biden’s early wins.

  94. Cash Cow TM says:

    In VA…

Fairfax county, Louden county and Prince William county are three most populous counties in VA.

All 3 going to Biden by better than 2 to margin.

Bernie doing much better in the VA cities (separate voting districts)

  95. VictrC says:

  101. PresidentPaul! says:

Tusli is the only Samoan running. How did Bloomberg steal American Samoa from her?

  102. Cash Cow TM says:

    Bottom line…

They apparently prefer the gradual socialism that Biden will bring…

  103. Tina says:

    Oklahoma too close to call.

  104. Phil says:

Actually, those numbers are very misleading in Texas. Bernie is not hitting his targets in the early vote in Travis or Harris County.

Baris apparently doesn’t know how to distinguish the early vote count from the Election Day vote count which comes in later. I want to see the early vote number out of Bexar County and El Paso. If Bernie misses his targets there I’m heading for bed.

  105. Tina says:

He did say it was “very early,” Phil.

But I trust you over him.

  106. Cash Cow TM says:

    In VA…

    Charlottesville (home of UVA)

In Richmond City, Biden leads Bernie 20K to 16K votes

  107. BayernFan says:

Bloomberg is smart to do a speech right now in prime time. He’s doing all right with it.

  108. Cash Cow TM says:

    in VA…

Arlington county is probably MOST liberal of all the NOVA counties.

Bernie is in 3rd place, behind Biden and Warren!

  109. BayernFan says:

why are states taking so long to count votes?

  110. Phil says:

The untold story of the night is Republican turnout for an essentially uncontested incumbent president.

Look at Texas and North Carolina, for instance. Geez.

  128. CG says:

Suddenly, Joe Biden is the King of the SEC

Al Gore’s Super Tuesday Southern Strategy finally works 32 years later and Biden didn’t even have to pretend to be a tobacco farmer.

And he even won 1 non-slave state so far.

  129. CG says:

There are a lot of other races going on in Texas, North Carolina, and other states. Just saying.

  130. Phil says:

Yep, 80% of the action in Texas was on the Republican side as far as state and local races. The fact that Republicans had more turnout is meaningless.

Also I’m calling Texas for Biden. Bernie didn’t build up the vote he needed with the early vote, his lead won’t last.

  131. SanDiegoCitizen says:

With the Oklahoma and Tennessee calls, this is, at the very least, not going to be a bad night for Biden. He’s won all the states where he was a clear favorite except Arkansas, where there was no exit poll, so the networks may take longer to project.

  132. Greymarch says:

Texas is gonna be as tight as a tick on a longhorn!

    Exit polls for TX tonight:
    Sanders 34
    Biden 34.

…and we know Sanders will win the early vote count. That’s his wheelhouse. Watch TX tonight. It’s the bellweather state for this particular Super Tuesday.

  133. CG says:

According to NBC, the TX early vote was plus 11 for Sanders and the same day vote was plus 11 for Biden.

I would think that would translate to a small Biden win there.

Bloomy learns American D voters not as gullible as he thought

Bernie learns even D voters not yet ready for fully blown socialism

Republicans (and also Trump) learn that many voters are willing to vote for even creepy, senile Joe Biden if they can rally behind him O(even if they don’t like him) to throw jerky boy Trump out of the White House.

  142. Cash Cow TM says:

This state isn’t one for landslides, but Tillis is a favorite to re-election. Unlike Liddy Dole 12 years ago, Tillis has no obvious vulnerabilities, and Dems aren’t going to be able to rely on the turnout Obama generated.

Heavy rain delayed the river crossing until July 14th. Pettigrew’s Brigade was part of the Confederate rearguard that would face the full assault of the Union pursuit. Leading from the front and armed only with a pistol, Pettigrew advanced on a lone Federal trooper that had been firing on his men. His weapon misfired, but his enemy’s did not. Paul. In Tx the R’s have over 1.95M votes, in an election year with no presidential primary and no statewide primary of any significance.

  282. Victrc says:

Cow. That is the question. The D’s are not boring for someone, they are voting against Donald Trump, which may turn out to be enough for them to win. This would be unfortunate for the country, given as I believe that it would be the tipping point to turning the country into California.

It will be interesting to see, long term, if the Bernie movement dies or if that is the future direction Of the D party.

    Bloomberg suspends campaign.

  284. Big Joe says:

Well it seems we are right where I thought we would be, a 1 on 1 showdown, Biden vs Bernie. The path taken to get here has been highly unusual. The various flavors of the month rose and fell. But that’s all yesterday’s news now.

Going forward, it looks like Biden *should* be able to secure a plurality of the delegates, possibly a majority, heading into the convention.

A plurality is all Grampa Joe needs. Bernie and his supporters are already on record stating that the candidate with the most delegates should win the nomination.

    Big Joe

  285. Big Joe says:

The Bloomberg campaign was an epic fail. The only thing he has done is limit Joe Biden’s delegate count and indirectly helped Bernie – the polar opposite of what he claimed his campaign was all about.

I never understood why he was running and it seems he was clueless too.

    Big Joe

  287. dblaikie says:

Great night last night. If people here want to drone on that Biden will be formidable go ahead — don’t let me get in your way. Truthfully part of me dreads the media misinformation campaign that is about to begin. And of course the media polls which will have the chicken littles running wildly around saying the sky is falling in. But none of that nonsense coming down the road will not change the fact that will be the elephant they want the folks to ignore — Uncle Joe is senile and doesn’t have the metal capacity to be President of the United States!

I wonder how long it will be before the main argument of Biden campaign is, “Don’t worry we will have smart people around him!”

  288. Wes says:

Franklin Roosevelt was partially paralyzed but served 12 years in President, winning his final term just a few months before his death.

John Kennedy suffered from severe back pain and had to stay doped up on painkillers to perform his job.

Disability doesn’t seem to be a disqualification for President.

Biden has proved his resilience with his recent string of wins. I’m not sure your argument has much currency, DB, though Trump would be wise to use it as one facet of his campaign against Biden.

  289. VictrC says:

A little lost in last night was the fact that in the six districts of CA that Dems flipped in 2018, 5 of the incumbent Dems (total, not just the incumbent) failed to get 50% of the vote, with R’s getting the majority of votes….this despite the Dem Presidential Primary being on top of the ticket.

Take from it what you will, its a long way until November, but put these seats on the at least “toss up” pile come November.

  290. Victrc says:

Wes, its clear that the Dems are putting their eggs in the AA basket, hoping it brings them 08, 12 results.

Biden carried Texas because of the AA vote in Houston and Dallas. He carried the Southern States because of it.

They are hoping for huge turnouts of AA in MI, NC, GA, PA and WI come November.

The sad part of all of this is that with Bernie in the race the Media (the state media of the Dems) will be able to portray Biden as a “centrist.”

    Let’s look at this centrist
    Pro-Open Borders
    Pro-Gun confiscation (see Beto)
Pro-amnesty for ALL illegals including citizenship
    Pro-left wing judges
    Pro-higher taxes
Pro-government healthcare (public option is govt healthcare)

    Shall I go on.

He talks about unifying the country, but Barack Obama was not a unifier. He governed for half the country, those that supported him (see Obamacare with no R votes). He literally made no effort to implement any bi-partisan policies, or anything that would appeal to R’s. NOTHING.

Biden is the same. The only unity he offers is for people to unify bending left wing policies.

  291. BayernFan says:

Biden’s biggest strength, and it is no small thing, is that he is a happy warrior.

Sure he’s forgetful and can be somewhat odd.

But that may be endearing to voters after a bit, when compared to Trump.

  292. dblaikie says:

Wes, my friend, thank you for my morning laugh. FDR suffered from the effects of polio, but he had a vibrant, crafty, and intelligent mind. JFK had back pain, but his mental capacity was deep. In short having above normal mental ability is fundamental for a President. Uncle Joe has senility. His mind cannot cut it. That is the bottom line.

  293. dblaikie says:

“Happy warrior?” Tell that to the people he angrily challenged to a push-up contest. Or the person he told to vote for someone else. Or the person he called a “dog faced pony solider.” But you are partly right. When he can lear at or touch women he is very happy.

  294. BayernFan says:

And yet, he wiped the floor with the Democrat field.

  295. Phil says:

Have you taken a look at the Democratic field?

  296. dblaikie says:

  297. Hugh says:

I’m not sure Big Joe. I think Bloomberg’s running had quite a bit to do with chasing away mayor Pete and Amy. Without that Bernie would have done great last night.

  298. DW says:

I have felt that Trump’s chances against Sanders was around 50/50, and probably the best shot he had to win re-election.

Against Biden (who is just a placeholder for the Dem Party establishment, whose focus would be on the veep), Trump’s chances probably slip to 40/60 for re-election, with DE, NC, VA, PA and FL much harder to win for Trump against Biden, than against Sanders. Other battleground states more or less a wash.

  299. DW says:

You do have to hand it to the Dem Party establishment. They know how to arm-twist its candidates to get what it wants. And looking ahead to next week, it looks like almost all Biden territory, and the nomination will be all but over:

ID – only 20 at stake, Biden should narrowly win.
MI – 2 weeks ago Sanders had just 9 pt lead, Biden should win it.
MS – See Alabama (Biden wins big)
MO – See Arkansas (Biden wins big)
ND – only 14 at stake, Biden with narrow win
WA – Sander’s best chance, but it would be only a narrow win.

  300. VictrC says:

The debate on March 15 just became infinitely more important…to the general election.

We are going to get to see how Joe Biden handles a one on one with a candidate who is going to go after him. And be prepared, because Sanders is going to be both pissed, and clinging to hope. This is going to make him dangerous.

Look for the media (whoever is moderating) to toss as many softballs to Biden while likening Sanders to a rabid dog (preview of the Fall debates).

    Interesting indeed

  301. DW says:

My guess is that the Dem Party bosses, in their smoke-filled room were willing to give Sanders the nomination up to the point where he praised Castro. That’s when their phones lit up and they met to discuss what to do. They decided to give him a chance to qualify his remarks, so in his next interview he got that question, and instead of backing off his pro-Castro stuff, he double-down, also praising communist China.

That’s when the smoke-filled room met again for an emergency meeting and they decided to dump Sanders and deny him the nomination outright.

They contacted the Buttigieg and Klobber campaigns, and twisted their arms to get them to drop out and endorse Biden. They did not contact Warren, because they wanted her to stay in and siphon off Sanders’ support.

Outside of turning California around, it was mission accomplished last night.

  302. Big Joe says:

    #302- Hugh,
Well Bloomberg’s strategy was to have Joe Biden collapse very quickly, which would enable him to become the next flavor of the month and become the Center-Left’s candidate of choice.

It was very high risk strategy because unless Biden collapsed completely, he would actually end up helping Bernie.

That said, Bloomberg very nearly pulled this off. Biden did look very weak in IA, NH, and NV. A weak finish in SC would have likely sent him fishing.

If Bloomberg could do this again, he’d skip the first 3 states instead of the first 4. South Carolina completely reshaped this nomination contest.

    Big Joe

  303. VictrC says:

    Big Joe

his strategy would have worked except for two things.

    1. His horrendous debate performance. He came in unprepared and came off as a callous, pompous Billionaire who believed he was above it all. Bad image

    2. Castro. If Sanders walks back his Sanders comment, Butt and Klobuchar stay in the race, Biden gets weakened tremendously yesterday and Bloomberg is the alternative at the convention.

2 was a bigger influence than 1. Even with the gaffe, he would have stayed in had the Castro comment never come out, or if he had walked it back. Bernie could well have lost the nomination over it. You can tell when Pelosi was resigned to Bernie’s potential nomination.

  304. VictrC says:

Sorry, walks back his Castro comment.

They gave him all the chance in the world and he doubled down. Siaonara nomintion.

  305. Big Joe says:

    Hey Vic,

Biden outperformed in SC in a big way. A combo of factors helped including his quasi home-field advantage (AA’s), Congressman Clyburn’s endorsement, Bloomberg’s underwhelming debate showing he was not a prime-time guy, the Castro comment, no other candidate able to connect with AA’s.

To use an NBA analogy, he was down 15 with 2 minutes left. Somehow all the desperation / low probability plays went his way. He’s now leading with 10 seconds left to play.

    Big Joe

  306. Tina says:

    Pocahontas will be exiting.

  307. VictrC says:

    Big Joe

Without Bloomberg debacle in the debate and without the Castro/Cuba comment (doubled down in the second debate), there is no Clyburn endorsement and he doesn’t get anywhere near that amount in SC.

Let’s face it, no one really wanted Biden, and he’s done absolutely nothing to earn the support of the establishment other than
    A. He’s not a flaming socialist (despite having nearly the same positions as Sanders)
    B. They can’t be saved by Bloomberg and his money (what they were counting on to defeat Trump).

They decided down ballot races were not worth risking with Sanders, so Biden is the choice. You can bet 100% his VP nominee is a woman of color.

  308. Big Joe says:

“You can bet 100% his VP nominee is a woman of color.”

That’s a good bet, but I’ll put it at 75%. I think Tammy Baldwin is a dark horse Veep candidate. The AA’s already trust Biden and are fully on board the Biden Express.

  346. TrumpIsPeteWilson says:

“Likewise there are likely to be a lot of wild climate change ideas in the Democratic platform that will adversely impact Montana. ”

According to a recent poll, voters across the West are substantially more worried about climate change now than they were just two years ago. What’s more, a majority identify as “conservationists.” These attitudes are at odds with the priorities of President Donald Trump’s administration, which have included aggressively cutting environmental regulations while shrinking national monuments and encouraging fossil fuel production on public lands.

These findings come from Colorado College’s annual Conservation in the West poll, which surveys residents in Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming on issues of climate, energy and public lands. This year, a majority of the approximately 400 respondents in each state rated climate change a serious problem, and every state saw an increase in climate concern.

These fears may be driven by climate change’s growing impacts in the West, such as drought and fire. Nearly 70 percent of poll respondents said that wildfires were more of a problem today than ten years ago. Climate change is playing an increasing role in the West’s lengthening fire season and intensifying blazes, according to the Union of Concerned Scientists.”

Montana’s great forests are all dying because of bark beetles. Everybody talks about it there. Same thing happening across the west. Climate change denial is becoming harder and harder to pull off with the effects in front of the eyes of every outdoorsman and that title goes to every single person in Montana. We love our forests.

I’m not really sure Bullock changes anything in MT besides the amount of money both sides are going to spend. Daines has made no errors as Senator and will be running in a state Biden will lose by double digits. Also, Bullock didn’t exactly score sweeping victories in his two gubernatorial races.

We can look at the Tester-Burns race in ‘06 as an example of Dems’ ousting a GOP Senator in MT, but the situations were radically different for a number of reasons. Even then, despite substantial leads for most of the cycle, Tester eked out a one-point victory in a disastrous year for Republicans.

I expect Daines to win by low double digits or high single digits. Bullock may push the race all the way to Lean R Hold, but I don’t see a realistic chance of his winning.

Schumer’s overt threats against Kavanaugh and Gorsuch certainly aren’t things Bullock wanted on the day of his announcement.

  349. Wes says:

People can debate why Sanders collapsed, and the role the party bossed had in strong-arming the others to drop out and endorse Biden.

But Sanders has himself to blame as much as anything else. Even Democrats have 401k plans. When this joker comes along saying 60 trillion in new spending, and he means it, even the most blinded Democrat out there can see their 401k going bye-bye.

This and the praising of Castro and communist China, and he was toast.

Even so, the average person has no concept of just how much 60 trillion is. It has to be illustrated.

For example. How long would a person have to work a job to earn 60 trillion dollars? Lets say someone earns the absurd pay rate of $1,000 per minute. That would be $60,000 per hour, and $2,400,000 per week. Yes, 2.4 million dollars a week. Wouldn’t take long at all to get to 60 trillion, right?

Wrong. At that pay rate, the worker would have to work 480,769 years and 3 months to get to 60 trillion.

  398. PresidentPaul! says:

A possibility but the WHO didn’t arrive at those numbers using just China and there really isn’t another source to refer to that would be better.

Looking at other countries numbers mortality rates (my math):

    Italy 148\3858=3.8%
    Japan 6\364=1.6%
    USA 12\221= 5.4%
    S Korea 40\6088= 00.65%

  442. dblaikie says:

Well since I like going out on limbs I might as well do it again. I believe that today is the turning point with the corona virus. Why? The answer is the statement coming out of the White House today that by next week they will have over 4 million test kits. This will finally give the nation clarity about the scope of this virus. In my opinion it will show that far more people have come into contact with it than we imagine. To begin with that might be scary. However this knowledge will drive the mortality rate way down! It is just a guess but I think in the next few weeks it will be under 1%. That clarity will finally enable people to act rationally.

But the other issue that will happen in the next weeks is the weather. Oh, I have heard the hand wringing that warm weather won’t effect the spread of this virus. My answer to that is India, Hong Kong, and Singapore. These are all places that are dense and crowded. They all have tons of interaction with China. But right now India has less than 50 people infected. Hong Kong around 100. The same with Singapore. Australia and New Zealand have very few cases. It just happens it is Summer there. Go ahead, if you are a chicken little and tell I am nuts, but I believe that when the warm weather hits in April and May the virus will abate.

In short I believe that anyone who believes that this virus is going to be a huge factor in the election may be in for a real surprise.
