Bryron York in his column at the Washington Examiner offers three reasons why Biden will never be president….
    1) no one that has served 36 years in the Senate like Biden has ever been elected president…no even someone that served 30 years, nor 25 years, nor 20 years, nor 15 years – McCain (21 years) and Kerry (19 years) were the most recent flops
    2) record of vps is not likely
    3) “14 year rule” – someone elected that wins the presidency has to run within 14 years of their first elected win not 36 years like Biden

6 – Interesting, but not really relevant. The thing about presidential elections is that it is a small database. If we limit ourselves a modern era of presidential elections, say starting in 1900, there are only 30 of them. That is a very tiny database against which any number of scenarios can be compared. There are no such things as ‘rules’ that means something must happen or not happen.

Before Obama there were 0 black presidents.
Before Reagan, no one that old.
Before McKinley, no one with a wife who had seizures.

    And on it goes.

  13. dblaikie says:

I posted this at the end of the last thread. It is good information in this crazy time. So I am going to post it again:

As a Pastor, one of the things I have discovered about us is that usually our fears paint pictures far worse than reality and what actually happens. In my opinion this is very much true with this virus. So today a little reality.

As of today there are 118002 cases worldwide. Of those we have had 4264 deaths. However what the news media never tell you is that of that 116,359 number, 65,103 have recovered. That means world wide there are really 48,635 ACTIVE cases on the earth. Of those 48635 cases, 42610 are mild cases with little symptoms. Worldwide there are 5025 cases were symptoms are serious or critical.

Now folks that is reality for today. The question is how many above the 118,002 never reported they had the virus because their symptoms were two mild to be tested. It is just a guess on my part but I would guess it is at least double and at most a million or more. When this is revealed it will drive the mortality rate way below 1%.

Now if you want to panic over that — go ahead. These facts are from: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

  14. dblaikie says:

O one more fact as of today there are 2.3 cases of Corona virus per one million people in the USA. That is right, 2.3 per million. What a scary number. Go ahead and panic.

  15. NYCmike says:

    dblaikie,

Listening to that Dr. Oz, he was a guest on a radio show yesterday. Found it interesting that one of the items he listed for people to prepare/deal with any outbreak was meditation/prayer. Reason being that many people stress themselves out, don’t eat right, then lose sleep, which invariably weakens the immune system response they are capable of to deal with any infection/virus/sickness.

Speaking of “I don’t work for you” Joe

He often plays up his blue collar, working class chops, and how he was the poorest member of congress.

Well…Joe hasn’t been blue collar for 50 years. He was elected to office in 1970, when he was 27 years old, barely one year after he finished nearly last in law school. So he has not had a real “job” in 50 years.

He was elected to the Senate in 1972, 48 years ago at 32, so he’s been part of the upper 2% of wage earners for nearly 5 decades, not a blue collar guy. It’s all a charade.

  30. Robbie says:

Mike Pence is doing yeoman’s work providing information to the public about coronavirus. He’s showing in these briefings why I would have excitedly voted for him had he run in 2012, been the nominee in 2016, or assumed the presidency at some point over the last three years.

Sadly though, I fear the efforts of the federal government are a week or more behind schedule. Had there been 1 million tests available to the public last week, I think much of the outbreak could have been contained through contact tracing and isolation. Now, it seems mitigation is going to be the only way to deal with the outbreak.

I don’t think this is on the table right now, but I wonder if it wouldn’t be better if the government went ahead and asked schools to close for two or three weeks and encouraged all people to stay home, if possible, for a week. It would certainly cause a hit to the economy, but better to knock this out in 4-6 weeks rather than see it linger for three or four months.

I am preparing for a furlough as are many of those with whom I fly. We just aren’t high enough on the seniority list to withstand capacity reduction that would match the reductions in bookings.

  31. Will says:

Biden may think AR-14 and AR-15 are congressional districts………

  32. Robbie says:

I should add this about fear of furloughs. If this terrible virus passes more quickly than expected (a month or so), hopefully the airlines won’t be crushed. If this goes several months, it will be the post 9/11 contraction and the 2008/09 contraction combined for the industry.

  33. Hugh says:

Robbie. I fly weekly. I remember 9/11. I flew the first day planes started flying there was like 10 passengers. For 2 months planes were half empty. I can guarantee you this virus will have very little impact on business passengers. Families who knows for sure but it will be nothing like 9/11

Get use to saying “Dementia Joe”, though, because he’s almost certainly going to be the next president. Trump was probably doomed the moment Biden won South Carolina, but his detached-from-reality comments about coronavirus until the last day or so are going be every bit as bad for him as GWB’s response to Katrina.

People won’t hold Trump responsible for coronavirus coming to the US. They will hold him responsible for his response to coronavirus.

    – People were convinced safety was taken care of after 9/11 when tighter screening and air marshals were instituted.

Until people feel they won’t get this virus by flying, I fear they won’t come back as quickly as they did after 9/11.

    Trump 43
    Biden 47

Prior YouGov was Trump 41, Biden 50

  102. Stephen says:

In that same YouGov poll, President Trump is leading with independents by 13%. The only reason that Biden has a lead is because the Dems polled is significantly larger than Republicans polled.

  103. mRviTO says:

During 2006, the GOP started to become unpopular to the extent that it could no longer poll in the 30s in party affiliation.

For the first time since then, the GOP has just polled at 30 or above in three straight Gallup readings.

Additionally, they have polled at 45 or more with leaners in six straight readings for the first time since 2004.

  104. mRviTO says:

Also, the GOP has led the Dem party in affiliation in the average with or without leaners since November.

  105. Messy says:

This reminds me of what you guys were saying in 2012 and 2018.

  106. Phil says:

Unless you think Biden is going to just breeze through the next seven months and be able to mask his dementia on the campaign stump, (good luck with that one. LOL) I can tell you exactly where this whole thing is heading in November.

Two variations of the same strategy depending on how obvious Biden’s mental issues are to the electorate.

    1) Joe remains on the ballot through November with the theme from his campaign morphing into – “maybe Joe does have some mental cognitive issues, but hey, they are greatly exaggerated and he can always resign the presidency and turn the office over to our super competent VP (probably a Klobuchar or someone similar). A vote for Joe is really a vote for Amy. Joe is just a place holder. Nothing to worry about here.” MSM goes full tilt in September and October pushing how wonderful the VP candidate is. Chuck Todd goes gaga over Amy.

    2) Joe’s cognitive problems are so obvious they have to get him off the ballot and he is forced to remove himself from the ticket. The DNC meets and chooses their “dream candidate” and replace Joe with him or her on the November ballot. It will be an establishment type. Klobuchar would be my prediction or someone in the “moderate lane” for sure.

If you think Democrats are going to go all in on Joe through November if polls show his cognitive problems are going to be fatal you are smoking something. Democrats play to win. They have a long history of doing whatever they need to do to win. Pulling Robert Torecelli off the New Jersey ballot in 2006 style, whatever it takes.

Trust me folks. This is exactly how this is going to play out. You can see this coming from a mile away, and if you can’t you are blind or you’ve never watched the Democrats in action.

  107. mRviTO says:

    Except it isn’t.

  108. VictrC says:

    Two points

    1. At CNN they are stating that yesterdays exchange was a good one for Biden because it showed his passion. They state that Trump has called voters worse (I dont; recall Trump threatening to slap a voters face, take him outside, etc) and that Biden is the savior of the blue collar worker.

    2. The name at the top of the ballot doesnt matter to Dems. They only see…Not Trump

This is going to be the definition of a base election. Who turns out more of their voters. There are very few undecided voters right now. We can talk about suburban moms not voting Trump, well they didn’t in 2016 either. Trump starts with every single vote he had in 2016, and he has converted some who didn’t. Can Biden bring back some Dems who didn’t vote for Hillary in 2016. That’s the election.

  109. NYCmike says:

“Trust me folks. This is exactly how this is going to play out.”

-Ok, ok, ok, I won’t go there!

  110. DW says:

110 – Biden could be filmed with his eyes crossing, and drool running down his chin, and CNN would report the good news that Biden obviously stays well hydrated.

If you have an event that was obviously bad for a candidate, and the side rooting for that candidate rushes out to try and do some ‘splaining, it only confirms it wasn’t a good event for that candidate.

  111. DW says:

    Sanders: 1 pm press conference.

  112. NYCmike says:

“2. The name at the top of the ballot doesnt matter to Dems. They only see…Not Trump”

-Newsflash: ALL voting places, except those in and around Lancaster, PA, have received federal funding for new voting machines. They are the same type as those enjoyed 4 years ago by residents in Radnor, PA. Some guy named Tom had advocated for these new machines as early as 2002, when he ran a wildly lopsided congressional race in Philly (small note – he did better than most, while still losing. He did, however, SEND A MESSAGE!).

The new machines come with supplies to make egg cremes.

  113. NYCmike says:

That response by Biden won’t be seen by 99% of voters. Down the memory hole already.

Those that do see it will be impressed how he fights back.

  114. jason says:

    Elections have consequences

“LOS ANGELES (AP) — Everyone knows that living in California comes with a price: Its residents pay some of the nation’s highest taxes on the money they earn, the gas they pump and the clothes they wear. But for the moment, at least, it appears voters have had enough.

The defeat Tuesday of the largest borrowing proposal in the history of California schools — $15 billion for repairs — has opened the question of whether voters put a temporary halt to the growth of government debt because of the unsettled political scene, or because they are on the cusp of a tax revolt akin to one in the 1970s that brought landmark changes to property taxes.

By itself, the crash of the question on the March 3 primary ballot was striking — it’s been a generation since a state school bond failed and there was no telling moment prior to the election indicating voters had soured on it.

But it didn’t stop there. Voters rejected more than half of the 237 local tax and bond measures on that ballot, with several dozen contests still undecided as California authorities wade through hundreds of thousands of uncounted ballots, according to a tally by the California Taxpayers Association.”

  119. Phil says:

Maybe Joe can use the virus as an excuse not to debate on Sunday. You know. Too big a risk of spreading the virus. He and Bernie, a camera man, Director….all in the same room. That would be irresponsible. In fact, let’s just cancel the Democratic Convention altogether….and of course, with it, Joe’s acceptance speech. Joe speaking in front of the nation – on his own for 45 minutes, with no handlers to screen what he says? Naw, can’t have that. It would be irresponsible….because of, you know, the virus of course.

  120. NYCmike says:

“Naw, according to Mike 90% of voters will never noice. They’re too dumb I guess.”

-To clarify, this is what I wrote: “That response by Biden won’t be seen by 99% of voters. Down the memory hole already.”

It said nothing about the intelligence of voters. It was a remark about the power the media still holds over this nation, and the need to use alternative methods to get the message out.

This is completely wrong. The government’s response has been absolutely pathetic. We haven’t been testing anyone, have no supplies to test anyone, have had ludicrously contradictory messaging, and the only thing Trump cares about is the economy, which is going to tank because of how pathetic our initial response was. We had 2 months to get test kits, supplies, test any one coming off a plane from China, get hospitals ready, and we did absolutely nothing.

  123. jason says:

    LOL

Biden on MSNBC last night said of his vote for the Iraq War, “I didn’t believe he had those nuclear weapons. I didn’t believe he had those weapons of mass destruction.”

So why did he vote for it? Everyone else voted fro it BECAUSE every intel agency in the planet believed it.

  124. jason says:

I’ll leave it to those like Wes, Robbie, MD, etc to proclaim their incredible “intelligence” and to mock others with different opinions.”

    Hello?

And you leave me out? Sniff…

I love mocking others with different opinions, especially you.

But I agree I am incredibly intelligent.

  125. jason says:

  126. jason says:

  128. jason says:

Frankly, I don’t care if immigration reform gets more or less votes, which is the point of that article written by an immigration deadender.

It’s the right thing to do.

  129. jason says:

    BTW, has Cotton-Perdue passed yet?

Last I heard NYC hacked their brains and declared the 50% cut in LEGAL immigration was “negotiable”.

  130. jason says:

“On Tuesday night, Biden won big once again, but there was a moment during his victory speech that was concerning.

“These are all people been working like the devil to try to get us elected as the, uh…so I want to thank you,” he said.”

  131. jason says:

Bernie is smart to stay in. He has over 700 delegates and Biden could implode at any moment. While the Dems search for a replacement Bernie can capitalize.

    Stranger things have happened.

  132. NYCmike says:

“and the only thing Trump cares about is the economy”

-Tucker Carlson said something like this on the radio this morning…..it would be wise for Trump TO ACT as if he is empathetic to those who get sick.

Personally, I don’t want him CARING for me, just like I didn’t want Obama, or any other President, CARING for me.

BUT, for those sensitive types out there, who despite their fragility still get to vote, it would be wise that Trump shows some empathy every once in a while.

  133. lisab says:

Joe’s cognitive problems are so obvious they have to get him off the ballot and he is forced to remove himself from the ticket.

  134. jason says:

A-holes cannot show any empathy, it’s in the bylaws.

But for those who are not constrained by such regulations, go right ahead.

  135. jason says:

    FWIW

“According to 2016 exit polls for Florida, Trump won 35% of the Latino vote and just 8% of the black vote. But a new Florida Atlantic University BEPI poll taken last week shows support from both voting blocs has jumped:

While exit polls show that Trump won 35 percent of Florida’s Hispanic vote in 2016, the March FAU study finds the president winning 45.4 of the coveted constituency to Biden’s 54.6 percent.

Sanders … would fare even worse against Trump among Florida Hispanics. The FAU poll shows Trump winning 47.5 percent of the Hispanic vote to the Vermont democratic socialist’s 52.5 percent

His improved standing with black voters is just as impressive:

For instance, in 2016, Trump won 8% of black voters in Florida compared to Hillary Clinton’s 84%. Fast-forward four years and Trump is standing at 18.1% and a whopping 27.3% against Biden and Sanders, respectively. Either would be a historic improvement for Republicans among black voters who make-up 14 percent of Florida’s electorate.”

Of course, FL is not Trump’s problem.

  136. jason says:

Well, Biden said vote for the other Biden, so that is probably what he meant.

  137. jason says:

    Elections have consequences.

“WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday handed a win to President Donald Trump by leaving in effect a policy that requires thousands of people seeking asylum at the southern border to wait in Mexico while their claims are adjudicated.

The court granted an emergency request filed by the administration and lifted a partial block on the program imposed by the San Francisco-based 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. The appeals court on Feb. 28 issued a ruling blocking the policy but then immediately put it on hold while the Trump administration asked the Supreme Court to intervene.”

  138. Phil says:

The scrubbing Joe from the ballot would come before ballot printing or early voting, Lisa. If Joe somehow lasted long enough to make it to October before Joe fell on his face in one of the last two debates Dems could (and probably would) attempt to get the courts to delay the election until they could replace him with another name. Failing that (which would certainly happen) and being forced to keep Biden’s name on the ballot they would just run a campaign with the theme that a vote for Joe doesn’t mean he will ever assume office – a vote for Joe is really a vote for Amy or whoever is on the ticket with him. The MSM would help them with that.

  139. NYCmike says:

    jason,

and that looks like it was an 8-1 judgment….is that correct?

  140. NYCmike says:

“If Joe somehow lasted long enough to make it to October before Joe fell on his face in one of the last two debates Dems could (and probably would) attempt to get the courts to delay the election until they could replace him with another name.”

-I see ZERO chance of a delay in the election.

  141. Phil says:

I think I said that in my next sentence.

  142. lisab says:

how could you force states to reprint ballots

  143. lisab says:

maybe the dems should open early voting now!

  144. NYCmike says:

“I think I said that in my next sentence.”

    -Yes, I agreed with you.

  145. Phil says:

Dems, just go to option 2, Lisa. Joe stays on the ballot but Democrats make it clear he will immediately resign and their VP takes the the office. They run on a theme that a vote for Joe is a vote for Amy or whomever. As I said, the media will run cover for that all day long.

  146. lisab says:

in 1960 roughly 70% of congressmen and senators were veterans

  147. Phil says:

Actually, my prediction on what may happen in November with regards to who is on the Democratic ballot and how they handle a demented Joe isn’t exactly going out on the limb. Should Joe implode, the Democratic options I’ve outlined are their only choice. The only other option would be to go all in and try to sell a clearly brain dead candidate. Who here actually believes they would go all in with a sure loser? Democrats just don’t do that.

  171. jason says:

Even the Boston Globe pegs Biden as a far leftist.

But the Never Trumpers are all Democrats now.

“Yet on issue after issue, Biden has veered sharply from Obama’s path.

On health insurance, for example, Obama rejected a public option as part of the Affordable Care Act and repeatedly stressed the importance of maintaining private coverage. But Biden favors a public option open to everyone, including the majority of Americans with employer-sponsored health coverage.

Biden supports government-funded health care even for unauthoritzed immigrants, something Obama never came close to proposing. He supports a sharp increase in US refugee admissions and a path to citizenship for all undocumented immigrants. When Obama ran for the White House in 2008, by contrast, it was as an enforcement-first hard-liner. He cracked down so hard on those who crossed the border illegally, he was known for much of his presidency as the “deporter-in-chief.”

No Democratic presidential nominee ever endorsed anything like the radical Green New Deal, with its price tag in the tens of trillions of dollars and its goal of eliminating the use of all fossil fuels. But Biden does. No Democratic nominee ever called for a national minimum wage of $15 an hour. But Biden does. The former vice president has moved emphatically leftward on abortion, on the death penalty, on free trade. By any understanding of “moderate,” as that term was used when Obama or Bill Clinton was president, Biden is no moderate.

What Biden is today is what he has always been: a liberal Democrat. But as his party has shifted left in a hyperpolarized era, Biden has shifted with it. Many of the positions he takes that are described as centrist today, observed Axios in January, “would have been liberal dreams during the Bill Clinton years and still out of reach in the Obama era.” On policy, Biden is a moderate primarily in the sense that he embraces positions that most Democrats no longer fight over.

All of which means that even if Biden wins the Democratic nomination, progressive Democrats will have reason to rejoice. Their party’s standard-bearer will be someone whose platform skews further to the left than any major party platform in the past. Sanders may not end up on the November ballot, but it will unmistakably reflect his influence. For he and his band of progressives have pushed their party to the left with such success that even the “moderate” in the race would be the most liberal Democrat ever nominated for president”

Of course, this makes Obama look like a moderate. He wasn’t. He just didn’t have the power to institute the public option and open borders.

  172. jason says:

Sorry Bernie, they found the votes and you will probably lose by less than 1%.

A lot can (and will) happen before the election.

Maybe the Dems are right that the virus saved them.

Instead you are bitter lying scumbag who just told two huge lies.

This is not the biggest pandemic in 100 years, not even close, and Trump never called the Coronavirus a hoax.

t can pretty much be taken for granted that liberals in the national media are dishonest whenever they’re pretending to be outraged over something President Trump says, but every now and then, it’s good to revisit how truly deranged they can be.

Case in point, both Paul Krugman at the New York Times and Dana Milbank at the Washington Post asserted in the past few days that Trump called the coronavirus a “hoax.”

Here’s Krugman on Thursday: “So, here’s the response of the Trump team and its allies to the coronavirus, at least so far: It’s actually good for America. Also, it’s a hoax perpetrated by the news media and the Democrats.”

And here’s Milbank: “Now Trump faces his first major crisis. And he’s … holding a political rally where he calls the coronavirus a ‘hoax.'”

The president, of course, never called the virus a hoax.

“What he said at a campaign rally last week was, “Now, the Democrats are politicizing the coronavirus,” and, “One of my people came up to me and said, ‘Mr. President, they tried to beat you on Russia, Russia, Russia.’ That didn’t work out too well. They couldn’t do it. They tried the impeachment hoax. And this is their new hoax.”

    “Their new hoax”.

Even the moonbat “fact checker: site Snopes:

    What’s False

Despite creating some confusion with his remarks, Trump did not call the coronavirus itself a hoax.

A category 2 Flu pandemic sometimes referred to as “the Hong Kong Flu,” the 1968 flu pandemic was caused by the H3N2 strain of the Influenza A virus, a genetic offshoot of the H2N2 subtype. From the first reported case on July 13, 1968 in Hong Kong, it took only 17 days before outbreaks of the virus were reported in Singapore and Vietnam, and within three months had spread to The Philippines, India, Australia, Europe, and the United States. While the 1968 pandemic had a comparatively low mortality rate (.5%) it still resulted in the deaths of more than a million people, including 500,000 residents of Hong Kong, approximately 15% of its population at the time.”

    Asian Flu (1956-1958)

    Death Toll: 2 million
    Cause: Influenza
Asian Flu was a pandemic outbreak of Influenza A of the H2N2 subtype, that originated in China in 1956 and lasted until 1958. In its two-year spree, Asian Flu traveled from the Chinese province of Guizhou to Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States. Estimates for the death toll of the Asian Flu vary depending on the source, but the World Health Organization places the final tally at approximately 2 million deaths, 69,800 of those in the US alone.”

In Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia), 1.5 million assumed died from 30 million inhabitants. In Tahiti, 14% of the population died during only two months. Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said the newly confirmed cases showed signs of “community spread,” meaning they couldn’t be traced back to a single source and suggesting the outbreak is intensifying. But, Fauci said, “I don’t think you want to have folks shutting down cities like in northern Italy. We are not at that level. That is a hot spot. Social distancing like in Seattle is the way to go.”

Who would have thought. We are going to stay another year so the youngest one can go to K here, the older will move to 1st grade. They start everyday singing the national anthem, saying the pledge and with a Psalm. The oldest is in K and reads at about a sixth grade level (not kidding) writes beautifully in cursive and is doing three column math.

He didn’t read very well (think Cat in the Hat) and wrote poorly.

They will put the 4 yo in K for us, He’s following the older one and can read and write in cursive as well.

The school has strict discipline and four check marks equals a paddle. When I ask why they listen to their teachers more than daddy, their reply…:because they have a paddle!”

Discipline, solid foundation in loving America, and great scholastics are hard to find these days

have you seen the thorton w burgess series (say 5 to 8 yo)

and of course hardy boys/nancy drew series (8 to 12 yo)?

mostly you will need to look in used book stores, but you can find them. they are very good series to teach children to read

many of the burgess’ books are free electronically but i wanted my girls to read real books. they are fine for boys though … they are about animal characters from cape cod, like “old granny fox” and “jimmy skunk” etc. and the adventures they have

also, some of the modern books are way out of line
and have stories of terrorists and such

That Selzer poll is awesome, not just that it confirms IA strong for Trump, but what it means for Wisconsin.

Trump’s best path for a narrow win where he loses PA and MI is to get the core states he won last time, holding FL, NC, OH, ME_02, and WI. Then he flips NH.

  410. DW says:

And beyond Wisconsin, the Selzer poll helps us understand that other pollsters are out to lunch. For instance, it is not really likely that Trump could trail Biden by 8 or 10 points nationally, while leading Biden by 10 points in IA.

Remember Selzer is the absolute gold standard. Everyone knows it. Even 538 gets the grade right with the rare A+ ranking.

Selzer was the only pollster to rightly predict the 2020 Democrat Caucus would have a data glitch preventing any results on election night.

  411. DW says:

Some on RRH are just shrugging off the IA poll from Selzer as though IA is just a red state anyway, and the poll is compatible with a strong national lead for Biden. I guess people forget that Obama won IA by 10 points, then 6 points. Bush 43 lost the state to ALGORE by 1 point, then managed to beat the northeast liberal John Kerry by only 1 point.

Bill Clinton easily won the state twice, and even in 1984 it was one of the closer states won by Reagan, only 53/46.

I also wonder what this IA poll means for Minnesota, where no one seems to want to do a poll.

We live in a broken world where a lot of bad things happen. If we could stop all bad things from happening, Democrats would have been stopped years ago. There are things where technology doesn’t even fail, but a flock of geese flies into both engines of a jet, bringing it down. Then there are engineering and technology failures. Bridges collapse, trains wreck. Planes crash. Cars get into fatal accidents.

Then there is cancer, diabetes, and HIV, and a host of other diseases. Then there is influenza. An annual killer of those whose systems are weak. Then there is swine flu, bird flu, SARS, zika, and other such things like the corona virus.

We cannot stop bad things from happening. We can take reasonable precautions. We can help treat people impacted by disasters. But these things are all impersonal disasters–afflictions that do not know who is president. And regardless who is president, these things will continue to happen.

Look, this is something to be concerned about, and we should caution on the side of, well, caution. We all know there are not 1500 cases of this, more like 150,000 cases right now, which should also give us comfort given only 38 have passed away.

But the point is, that just like during 9/11 we should be coming together. I do give Trump fault here, he is not that “pull us together” kind of guy, at least when he’s reading a speech. He did so so so much better this afternoon when talking about people being more important than the stock market, which was off teh cuff.

Point being, instead of using this time to criticize, how about being Americans for a few minutes, not Democrats.

About 6:30 they were putting the roof trusses on.
I thought it was odd they had no end braces no any temp 2X4s to tie the trusses together temporarily.

About 7 p.m. In heard a huge BOOM…then no jabbering.

They had all the trusses up except one–AND ALL OF THEM FELL OVER.

    Luckily nobody was hurt.

I’m 26, so no I’m not particularly worried about myself. I am worried about the millions of the elderly that are dropping dead en masse in infected countries. Seeing as we haven’t been testing throughly, most estimates suggest there are 10x the number of infected people out there from whom we’ve currently identified, most of whom have no idea they are infected. This will tax our hospital systems and spread.

  513. PresidentPaul! says:

Just a personal tip. Coronas and rhinos make you really sick when you’re low on sleep or you’re stressed.

Conversely if you manage sleep and stress, lots of time you will have a corona or a rhino and you literally won’t even know you had it because you’re body defeated it so easily.

I’ve had periods of my life where I went on very low sleep with much stress and I was getting sick every week it seemed or at least monthly.

Then I’ve had periods where I’ve managed both well and I had not gotten sick for 3-4 years even though I know I was around it during these periods.

I’ve also had some periods of extreme low sleep and high stress, and even before I felt sick I assumed I’d be sick soon and sure enough…

  514. PresidentPaul! says:

Let me expand further. People who work 8 hour or 12 hour shifts don’t understand post #522 because they aren’t used to extremes. They only see things on the margins.

I used to work at times 48 hour shifts with high stress.

I can tell you I got sick maybe not 100% of the time afterwards, but probably like 75% of the time in the week that followed. Not sick to the point I couldn’t work (I’ve never called in sick before) but just a generic sick.

From personal experience I can tell you sleep management and stress level are paramount to rhinos and coronas and even influenza.

If you can manage those two, then these sicknesses are mild as most or nonexistent in most cases.

  567. VictrC says:

Bayern – an interesting theory has to do with the age of the populations of the countries.

All of the regions you spoke of have very young populations, due to a. Birth rates and b. The fact that life expectancy is less. Given that this disease attacks older people much more aggressively (fatality wise) it could be simply that. Italy, France, Germany, et al have very old populations and that is why they could be more adversely affected.

One interesting thing to look at would be influenza rates in those countries. Ive lived in Latin America and I never really remember the flue hitting badly, same in Africa. MAybe someone can research those numbers and see if there is a correlation.

  568. VictrC says:

So a bit of quick research shows the two worst countries for the H1N1 outbreak under OBama that killed over 3,600 Americans…wait for it, Italy and France. Italy had more than 10x the number of cases as the US and France 5x. Combined they represented more than 55% of all reported cases.

Thanks to nimble collaboration, the team was able to culture the virus from two clinical specimens in a Level 3 containment facility.

So what does that mean? The isolation of the virus allows for a plethora of things to happen, including more accurate testing and the development of vaccines according to Sunnybrook. A better understanding of its biology, evolution and clinical shedding can help us understand how the virus works and survives.”

Afternoon coronavirus update: zero Americans. I repeat, zero Americans have died of coronavirus in the last 24 hours. Only 41 total since this outbreak began. https://worldometers.info/coronavirus/

  611. Messy says:

If you look at the comments from earlier this thread and the previous two threads. Few here believed that novel coronavirus 19 wasn’t a problem and that it would soon be gone.

    Trump has no credability.

  612. Messy says:

    623. The website says seven. Sorry, Tina. Sorry to the families of the dead. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

  613. VictrC says:

They just updated that site within the last 15 mins to go from 0 to 7 passing away tragically today.

But the key number to evaluate the effectiveness of this administration is that number, how many have perished so far.

    China. 3177
    Italy. 1,266
    Iran 514
    Spain 133
    France 79
    S. Korea. 71
    USA. 48

A country that is larger than the Italy through SKorea combined, with a land mass much larger has infinitely less deaths (lets not judge by cases because no one really knows how many cases there are). That is the key figure. Closing the “border” to china, has in fact saved many many lives. He will never get credit for it, but in the long run, that is the thing that is most important.

  614. Messy says:

The US is about the size of Europe. The Trump administration screwed up royally and testing is difficult to impossible in most cases. hopefully, that will soon change.

    Iran’s numbers are BS.

  615. Wheelz says:

Gov Pritzker of Illinois is closing all schools through March 30. Also no toilet paper left on the shelves. Crazy time!!!!

  616. SanDiegoCitizen says:

The Atlantic had an article claiming the Iranian infection rate is much higher than the official number:

“Remember that the official number of cases is 6,566. Yet a variety of other indicators suggest that far more people in Iran have become infected:

A paper by the University of Toronto’s Ashleigh Tuite and others noted that, by February 23, cases of Iranian origin had surfaced in Canada, Lebanon, and the United Arab Emirates. Given the volume of air travel between Iran and these countries, Tuite’s team estimated how many native COVID-19 cases must have occurred in Iran to produce one case each in these other countries. Their estimate for February 23: 18,300. Since the epidemic reached 100 cumulative cases, the official numbers have doubled roughly every three days. If that rate held, the estimate as of today would be 586,000.

On March 3, 23 out of 290 members of parliament—about 7.9 percent—had the disease. (Unlike ordinary people, these MPs probably had reliable access to diagnosis. State media insisted they contracted the disease not from one another, but from their home districts.) The rate of infection of parliamentarians would, if applied to Iran’s total population, come to 6.4 million cases.

The whole testing complaint isn’t going to hold water long term. It’s their only complaint that they can find with this administrations response to this crisis. Overall, its been excellent.

The best part of the press conference today was Trump’s constant deference to the people around him, both for their expertise, but also acknowledging their contributions and giving them the credit they deserve.

  623. SanDiegoCitizen says:

Lets not forget that of the 41 coronavius deaths in the U.S, 25 were at a nursing care facility in Washington State. A total of 31 of the 41 U.S. deaths were in Washington State.

BJ, not shorting this baby. The time to short was two weeks ago when the stock market blew off the interest rate cut. I think we go sideways until earnings season. Then it all depends on how low the earnings are and how they do against expectations. This is the quickest 20% drop evah. Markets don’t rebound right away. No doubt there will be negative growth this quarter. Probably next quarter too. So that’s a recession, folks. I need to see the earnings and if our great experts can control the spread of the virus.
