Our favorite Arizona pollster, OH Predictive, is at it again. Last month, Biden was +9. In today’s poll, he is +7(50/43). The poll PID is R+5.
    Here are the whoppers:
1- In 2016, The Donald carried Maricopa County by 3. In this poll, he loses the County by 13; a 16 pt. turn around.
2- In 2016, Trump was +4 with Independents. In this poll, HE IS MINUS 30; a 34 pt. turn around.

So a few comments on Roadkill Maggot’s complete breakdown last night.

    1) By claiming we are all socialists because supposedly we agree with him, he finally admits that he IS a socialist, and that unlimited printing of money and Pelosi’s 3T bill is socialism.

    2) When the first stimulus bill passed, he was here arguing that the money should go “to the people” (his code for illegals and people who don’t work) rather than to the businesses that employ people. He was against the long term solution which was to keep businesses afloat and employees paid. We “socialists” wanted the private sector to survive, he didn’t.

    3) He admits that unlimited printing of money is something DEMS WANT TO DO. None of us “socialists” have ever said that is what we want to do. We have varying view on what a stimulus would look like, but we all want it to be temporary and targeted.

    4) He claims the government “took over the stock market”. That is an outright lie, he is just angry he missed the boat. The government instilled enough confidence in the market that INVESTORS felt comfortable enough not to stay in and buy at the lows.

Roadkill Maggot is a brainwashed communist moron. Last night he admitted he is indeed a communist so there is that.

A few comments on Trump’s pills.

“Jason is twisting himself in knots again.

Lisa is right, the drug is safe. Jason, the medical expert, wants to tell the President what drugs to take. Just like a Democrat.”

I never said the drug was not safe, so Chicon can GFH for the third time.

Also I didn’t claim to be a expert. The closest we have to an expert here is Pitch, who clearly stated “there is not one ounce of evidence this drug works as a prophylactic”.

So Trump can take what he wants, and I don’t have to be a doctor to say I think it is a stupid publicity stunt.

“So I would not take it. If I was a healthcare worker with other health issues I would and I guess Jason would not.”

I would take it, because as a healthcare worker I would be 1000 times more exposed than Trump is. There is anecdotal evidence that it lessens the severity of the infection so I would take it.

So again, my point here is not that Trump is taking any great risks, just that in his case, there seems to be zero reason to take it.

Is anyone here, all of us who are much more exposed than Trump, taking this as a prophylactic? Didn’t think so.

  6. jason says:

Here is what Pitch wrote yesterday about using this drug as a prophylactic.

“The vast majority on the front line do not take it for prophylaxis and that includes myself. It may well work but until that is proven, not worth the risk. I don’t use it as prophylaxis and do not prescribe it either.”

  7. mRviTO says:

As of April, 20% of doctors reported taking HCQ prophylactically.

I was curious. I couldn’t care less about this stupid argument.

  8. jason says:

So Pitch defines “vast majority” as 80%. Have no problem with that.

But I am ready to move on too.

We will have to disagree on what Trump’s motives are on this.

  9. janz says:

Prophylactic. Trump is taking the HQC combo as a preventative measure – something that has been medically explored earlier, and seemingly has shown some efficacy in shielding people from getting the virus. It was also a medication suggested by the WH physician? So, good for the prez!

  10. PresidentPaul! says:

From personal experience, adequate sleep is how you prevent seasonal coronavirus problems.

I think the masks probably work also if you’re so inclined. Not necessarily to prevent it but to prevent large viral load.

Some of those early young doctors dying in China probably had huge exposure all at once in the sense that their body became overwhelmed before it could mount a response.

What I’m saying is maybe you inhale a few particles of it, and you get “sick” but don’t notice that you got sick vs you inhale 1 billion particles early on, and those multiply times over before you body can do anything about it.

  11. mRviTO says:

The Venn Diagram of people who are angry Trump is taking HCQ and people who wouldn’t mind if Trump died from it probably needs one circle.

  12. Pitchaboy says:

Yep. About 80 pct of doctors on front line don’t use HCQ as prophylaxis and don’t prescribe it for that purpose for multiple reasons: it’s value in prophylaxis is anecdotal as of now and RCT under way to address that issue, the segment that may benefit the most(older population) also run the biggest cardiac risks with at drug. Having said that the decision to use a drug that is available for an off label indication is one that is made by a patient and their physician understanding potential risks and benefits. I have no problem with the President taking it. But I have a bit of a problem with his publicizing an off label indication.

  13. jason says:

From personal experience, adequate sleep is how you prevent seasonal coronavirus problems.”

I have to be honest, I would rather take medical advice from Bunu than investment advice.

There is way to much money involved there from the player perspective to be messing around with a mask that won’t let you breath enough oxygen when you badly need it. People would be punching all sorts of holes in their masks or breathing below them etc.

But the honesty didn’t last long. I never claimed to “know better” or to “be an expert”. Or that the drug wasn’t tested or safe for other uses.

What I said is that I think Trump is doing this for publicity reasons, not medical, which in my view is stupid.

  31. jason says:

Considering China is a communist country it is unfortunate that number is not higher. Not a surprise however when you see polls where almost half of Americans view socialism favorably.

But of course you can view China’s political system as unfavorable and still be in favor of trading with them, benefiting from an emerging market of 1.4 billion people, and against trying to isolate China economically.

A case count of 800 or so in Italy would translate, roughly, into about 4,800 new cases a day in America. Does anyone think that’s possible with governors like Cuomo, Pritzker, Whitmer, and the rest doing the counting?

In fact, there have been no mass “second waves of infection” anywhere reopening has begun in Europe. We hear about a second wave repeatedly because that’s what the press wants to happen. There have certainly been a few small hot spots (emphasis on small) like in South Korea, bit now huge outbreak like we saw in Wuhan, Lombardy, and New York City.

I wouldn’t do that, I haven’t done that, and I’m not sure why the governors of Maryland and New Jersey have opened their beaches, but they have.”

Wolf would be booed if he went to the beach. And of course, they are reopening because they can’t afford to stay closed forever.

I think the budget reality hit Dewine smack in the face and that’s why he made a U-turn at the end of April. I think that’s basically the same that that’s happened with Newsom. He’d have loved to have kept California closed until election day, but he realized he couldn’t blow a hole in the budget and get away with it.

On the flip side, Andy Beshear has decided to destroy the economy in Kentucky in hopes he can use a sympathetic press corps to force a federal bailout. It’s amazing how the big blue states always seen to find a way to add 4,000 to 5,000 new cases late in the day to the national count. It’s almost as if they’re waiting to see how many cases they need to announce to keep the impression going that a crisis exists.

  95. jason says:

You immediately label people as RINO-hunters who question why people, such as Richard Burr, are so lame in regard to these investigations, instead of lending your voice into pushing for a more vigorous pushback and more transparency.”

ZZzzzzzzzz… nobody has pushed for/supported more investigations into these hoaxes and charades than I have, GFY.

But if someone wants to suggest Graham, Nunes, Gowdy, Rubio, etc. are RINOS then yeah, I will mock them as RINO hunters. GFY.

  96. jason says:

The benchmarks today are the numbers from a week ago.

    May 12 deaths 1871
    May 12 cases 22802

It looks pretty much like all the major contributors are in, so we will probably be lower on both counts. At the moment we have 18400 cases and 1431 deaths.

  97. Phil says:

    Not “almost as if”, Robbie.

It’s what they do. Period. They’ve been at it for two and a half months….and expect even more Blatant late day juicing as the virus fades and they need the numbers to sustain their lockdown.

  98. VictrC says:

    So today we have

27 states with less than 200 cases (18 red, 9 blue)

11 states with less than 12 cases total today (9 red, 2 blue)

    10 states with 0 deaths
    6 with 1-2 deaths
    9 with 3-10 deaths
    9 with 11-25 deaths
    6 with 26 – 50 deaths

Meaning 40 states had less than 50 deaths today, and more than half had less than 200 new cases.

    TIME TO OPEN UP

  99. Phil says:

Hell, it’s time we just split into two separate countries.

    109. Great post. This is a joke what is going on in most of our states.

  102. Country Dick Montana says:

109 and 114 – This really is a northeast corridor problem. CT down to DC is 60% of the deaths.

  103. Robbie says:

I know it’s a minority opinion but, more and more, I’m leaning towards the view we should simply open up 100%. Had China simply lied about coronavirus and never acknowledged it existed, I think we’d have gone through this past cold/flu season and thought “Wow, that was a tough one!”

When we do a wide scale anti-body survey, I think we’ll find more than 10% of the country (33,000,000 people) has already had this (higher in some areas, lower in others) and that will bring the death rate down to something like .25%. In other words, if you get coronavirus (whether you know it or not), the survival rate will be 99.75%.

I’m still hopeful a vaccine will be given emergency approval by the Fall and I’m even more hopeful a monoclonal antibody treatment which can cure all but the most severe cases with several co-morbidities will be ready by late Summer.

  104. Country Dick Montana says:

Another way of looking at it:

States that voted Trump and have GOP Governor:

    41% of population – 14% of Deaths

States that Voted Clinton and have Dem Governor:

    41% of population – 68% of Deaths

  105. Phil says:

    I’m about there too, Robbie.

Thing is, it’s just a political impossibility with the MSM in control of the airways. That’s unfortunate because all we are doing is just dragging this thing out and further damaging the economy….. which, of course, is what the left wants to do.

They have an election to win.

  106. Phil says:

1538 dead today with just a trickle from California to come in. Of course, there’s still a possibility of a Very late mega dump from one of the blue states. Which one? Depends whose turn it is in their tag team operation.

  110. mRviTO says:

    Mega dumps make A-holes sore.

  111. Robbie says:

Pritzker and other governors have said there restrictions will remain in place until there’s an effective treatment. But what will qualify as an effective treatment? Monoclonal antibodies will almost certainly cure all but the most severe cases, but they will most likely be an IV applied in a hospital. Will that qualify for Pritzker or Beshear? I doubt it.

  112. Ron N says:

Now there to much testing and not enough people getting tested. So CNN say maybe we should start paying people to get tested. What a joke they will never be happy.

  113. NYCmike says:

    Robbie,

The Democratic governors may just be playing the waiting game, betting that enough Democrats, Independents and #NeverTrumpers will vote for Biden and congressional Democrats…….the fewer people who stand up and say “Enough is enough, Trump is terrible but better than the alternative!” is the sign for those Democrats to keep doing what they are doing.

They absolutely love your silence on this matter.

  120. jason says:

Why doesn’t Tina want to be called a RINO Hunter?”

To be fair it was NYC who objects.

We are trying to keep him from finding out that the only Republican he knows that was actually a Democrat is Trump, the shock could kill him.

  121. Bitterlaw says:

Phil – What is it you like so much about Texas? I expect you will talk about taxes and freedom and things like that. Fine. What else?

Here is why I can’t see myself living anywhere but the Philadelphia area. I love the history. There is nowhere else in the US like it (Boston only mattered from 1765 to 1775 and then it was left behind). The weather is ideal – even when it sucks. 4 seasons. Some people are friendly. Some are not. Either way, you know how they feel. Within a three hour driving radius I can be in New York City, DC, Gettysburg, Ocean beaches, mountains (well, small mountains), world class museums, world class hospitals, or farmland. I can’t imagine Texas can offer all that I want. I really am trying to understand why you live where you live.

  122. jason says:

I envision Tina has having a big leather belt she cuts notches in at every RINO kill.

  123. jason says:

I would rather live in Texas than in Philly, not even close. I can fly to NY about as fast as Bitter can drive there from Philly. The weather sucks, but it sucks here too. I don’t know how many people are friendly in Philly, I suppose there are some, but I guarantee they are 10 times friendlier in Texas.

Of course, where I live is actually more Republican and more conservative than most places in Texas.

  124. Paul says:

116: Robbie, I can appreciate that opinion. I also think that the death rate may end up down around .25%.

Right now, New York’s total COVID death is at .15% of the whole population of the state. If we assume almost 60-70% of New York has the virus whether they know it or not, that might end up down there. I wish we had a better idea of how far the virus has spread.

.25% is still almost 900,000 deaths. But that may be inevitable.

  125. Paul says:

    To clarify… 900,000 US deaths.

  126. Robbie says:

Just eyeballing the trends, it looks like we might see cases really start to tail off in the way we’ve seen them in Europe around the mid to late part of June. That’s still about five weeks. I never thought that would be the case on March 13 when this crap began.

What we really need over the Summer months is an effective treatment to be found, discovered, or created. That could bring things mostly back to normal by Labor Day or shortly thereafter. Outside of these monoclonal antibody treatments, I’m sure if anything is on the horizon, though.

  127. Robbie Sherman says:

    Paul says:
    May 19, 2020 at 10:48 pm
    To clarify… 900,000 US deaths.

    – This assumes every single person is susceptible to coronavirus. That’s probably not the case. There could well be a large group who simply will never contract the virus regardless of exposure.

  128. Paul says:

And I already see problems with my thinking…. Not every person will get the virus no matter how super transmissible it is. Once areas have 60-70% infected then herd immunity kicks in and the virus has no place to spread. Which may be what is happening already in parts of New York City.

People You meet are generally friendly down here although we Certainly have our share of dicks. I like driving in Texas. Depends on whether you get out of Houston and Dallas of course but things are wide open – and we have the lowest gas prices in the nation. Finally, I love football. It’s king here in the state – high school and college. Love my college football. There just isn’t any college football in the NE. Maybe if you follow Penn State I guess but that’s it. I know a lot of people down here like the hunting as well although I don’t hunt so that’s not a factor for me. Why would you go back to work for a 50% pay cut, you have to pack a lunch, pay gas, pay for day care, get a haircut and look presentable when you can do nflx instead?

  135. Bitterlaw says:

Thanks, Phil. I have said before that I don’t like taxes but that taxes will never make me move. I hate when Democrats win but I would be bored with no competitive races (Philly doesn’t have them but my area goes in cycles).

I hate mild winters. We had no snow this winter. Then Spring sucked because it has been mostly cold. PA has hunters. Not my thing. Texas does have better football for high school and college (though no real title contenders like Alabama, Clemson or even Ohio State). Not exactly a basketball state but some good softball. I don’t think I will ever visit Texas. My wife and children did like the Dr. Pepper Museum and Texas Ranger Museum.

  136. Bitterlaw says:

I am starting to think we could get a reverse outcome in 2020 from 2016. Outrage over the shutdown in Red states could lead to Trump winning the popular vote but losing the EC if a few states flip because of frightened voters who either stay home or think only Dems can keep them safe. Discuss.

    150. Bitter, I live in California, one of the bluest of states. We just had the Republicans win a congressional seat in a Democratic district. People want the lockdown to end, and now Newsom is rushing to end it as fast as possible — he is reading the political tea leaves. We will very soon be able to eat in restaurants again; keep in mind only weeks ago Newsom and many Democrats were strongly advocating for continuing the lockdown, some even said into July and August. Democrats are backng down big time (Nevada is another example) because they realize people have had enough of this nonsense.

A Rasmussen poll just came out stating that 49% of Americans agree with Trump’s desire to get the country open as quickly as safely possible. Only 36% disagreed; 15% undecided. Young people are particularly supportive of opening the country again. An I will say that in California Hispanics appear strongly supportive also.

The Republicans need to campaign as the anti-lockdown party — they did so in the California 25th congressional district, and won big time.
The only question is, if the lockdown ends, what other excuse will the Democrats use for keeping Biden locked in his basement.

After all, the time lag between heightened mobility and potential rise in COVID-19 infections is approximately two weeks. Yet such a surge has yet to materialize, suggesting that increases in human mobility alone may not fully capture risk of transmission.”

One explanation they have is that people are wearing masks and still social distancing despite the increased mobility.

If increased mobility didn’t cause increases in cases and deaths, did drastically slowing mobility earlier decrease cases and deaths?

No. The ones who suffered the most were the least mobile, long term care patients and poor minorities living in high density neighborhoods who couldn’t leave where they lived.

  161. Chicon says:

Country Dick – I’ve enjoyed your posts.

The main reason that the modeling is useless is because the scientific community does not yet know enough (especially true in early March) about the virus to build an accurate model. The same is true of models of global warming.

Thanks again for the info you post.

  162. Robbie says:

According to a story yesterday in the Telegraph, the Oxford University vaccine candidate did not work as well as first thought in monkeys. According to the story, all of the monkeys got the virus, but none of them developed the pneumonia that has killed so many people.

I guess there are two ways to look at this. First, it’s not good news. The vaccine doesn’t prevent people from contracting the coronavirus.

The other way to look at it is this. The vaccine turns the coronavirus into another cold with which we can deal just as we do with other colds caused by coronaviruses.

My guess is the latter is the way to look at any vaccine. Eradication or complete prevention of it seems unlikely. But if it can be turned into a nuisance like other cold viruses, fine. No one likes a cold, but we get over them in about a week’s time.

If I were in charge of the effort, I think I’d probably start making that point. Prepare people for the likelihood that this coronavirus will always be around, but a vaccine will make it little more than a nuisance.

It’s not increased mobility that causes transmission. It’s increased time spent in confined spaces with poor circulation and low humidity. Think small offices, think households, and, yes, think subways.

My hunch, which may prove wrong, is increased mobility will actually help lower transmission. When we’re out and about, we’re moving around and never staying in any one place too long. Especially in the Summer, we’re outside more were transmission is much more difficult. That’s why cold/flu season runs from November to April. We’re all stuck inside touching the same things and breathing stagnant air.

  169. jason says:

If increased mobility didn’t cause increases in cases and deaths, did drastically slowing mobility earlier decrease cases and deaths?”

    Hard to tell.

The question is had we just gone to masks and social distancing from the start, what would the numbers look like today?

Let’s say we had done this but not closed down the entire economy:

    1. Closed schools for remainder of school year to keep kids from passing the virus to grandma and grandpa. Allocated 25 billion to fund day care for parents who could not work if kids not in school.
    2. Shut down concerts and sporting events with spectators until the fall.
    5. Closed down bars and dining in for 60 days, allowing for outside bar/restaurant service with social distancing, take out and delivery. Reopen with social distancing after 60 days.
    3. Practiced social distancing and wearing of masks at work and in stores without closing them. Encouraged work from home where possible.
    4. Allocated about 50 billion just to isolate nursing homes/nursing home workers.

I would bet we could have gotten away with less than half the unemployment and less than half the need for stimulus with about the same results as far as cases and deaths.

  170. jason says:

“Mortgage applications to purchase a home rose 6% last week from the previous week, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association’s seasonally adjusted index. Purchase volume was just 1.5% lower than a year ago, a rather stunning recovery from just six weeks ago, when purchase volume was down 35% annually.“

  277. Phil says:

Interest rates on home mortgages are at record lows. We have been in the process of refinancing our home for the last five and a half weeks. The reason it is taking so long they say is because mortgage companies are backed up – so much financing and refinancing activity. For example, we dropped our mortgage rate a point, will be walking away from the closing table with more than 25K while keeping our payments exactly level. Of course I’m sure there is a blue governor somewhere that objects to this because, well, just because….

I hope the good Governor has hired a good resumé-writing firm.

    – Because of the rules under which the legislature operates, Beshear can govern under his emergency order until January when the legislature can legally return to session. Effectively, he’s dictator of the state until then. He even was able to close the states courts in March. They intend to reopen on June 1.

Other than Georgia, we have the highest unemployment in the state, but he said he won’t make decisions based on economic hardships. He joined a reopening pact with Indiana and Ohio, but when they push forward with reopening, he publicly told them they were wrong. They opened their pools, but he won’t open ours this Summer.

He knows he’s going to be stripped of much of his power in January so he’s going pedal to the metal right now. I would not be surprised if the Republican supermajorities in the state legislature consider impeachment and removal as a way to spur him to reopen more quickly.

A couple of things about this virus and the politics of it and most are obvious.

    1. The virus is responsible for the economic situation as we all know.

2 Democrats and Never Trumpers want the economy locked down until the election in order to take out Trump.

    3. For that reason blue state numbers aren’t going to get much better over the summer. Why?, because Wolf, Cuomo and company control the numbers, silly. You can follow the numbers day to day but they won’t change much. That should be evident by now. Just look at today.

    5. Numbers will get worse in red states as they open up. It is a necessary evil but Democrats and their puppets in the MSM will use these numbers to justify the lockdown until there is a vaccine or Trump is gone, whichever comes first.

    4. There will be no vaccine until 2021 at the earliest. Vaccines don’t get developed in a matter of months. They NEVER have.

    5. Medical researchers aren’t going to find a magic bullet (therapy) to drop the death numbers. This is a virus and there aren’t medicines that do that with a virus.

Let’s face it. Medical researchers don’t know crap about this virus. It lives on surfaces, it doesn’t live on surfaces…researchers give you a different answer depending on what day it is. Medical science isn’t going to save Trump.

Medical science isn’t going to save Trump from the virus and it’s effect on the economy.

I’ll also point out that on this forum I have criticized George Pataki, who you of course defended, without actually dealing with the criticisms which were leveled at him.

Of course, I criticized him as a person who had VOTED for him 3X, and my criticisms were based on the fact that he didn’t follow through on his campaign promises.

That is why I kept pestering Mr. Pogo Loco, the person who for 3+ years has regurgitated EVERY LEFTWING attack against our President, thus helping to make any attempt to unite our country in a time such as this utterly impossible!

    Hello? Now?

I have called Bevin a Paulbot moron for years.

In fact, in this very thread…

    “Bevin was a Paulbot idiot.

I certainly wouldn’t blame anybody for not voting for him.

If I lived in KY I would have voted for him and then thrown up.”

  415. NYCmike says:

“If I lived in KY I would have voted for him and then thrown up.””

-I may have helped you clean it up, as it would have been a smaller mess than what little Robbie has now.

  416. jason says:

NYC, when he thinks a candidate is a RINO, always bleats “you never say it’s the candidate’s fault, it’s always the deadender’s fault”.

    The hypocrisy is astounding.

What about the fact Bevin was a moronic Paulbot and a horrendous candidate, who lost to an moonbat when every other state office went big for Republicans.

Not a word from NYC. The problem is Robbie didn’t vote for him.

Well, what about the candidate? What is good for the goose is not good for the gander?

  417. Phil says:

Not a particularly encouraging day on numbers depending on how you look at it. Cases up over the last week but then we tested 450,000 people today. I guess that means more cases. Doubt it matters. Blue state govs will produce whatever Numbers they need to keep this economy in the ditch.

The fix is in boys and girls.

  418. NYCmike says:

    jason,

Of course it was Bevin’s fault that he didn’t get re-elected. He obviously pissed too many voters off.

BUT, Robbie, or any other Republican who was too butthurt by Bevin’s actions, shouldn’t complain about Beshear. He/They got what he/they chose. Robbie did nothing (no vote for Bevin or Beshear) and now he gets it LONGGGGG and HARDDDDDD!

If you, and Robbie, don’t understand the difference between abstaining and voting for the lesser of 2 evils, you are hopeless.

  419. Robbie says:

All Matt Bevin had to do was never open his mouth and he’d have gotten 60% or more of the vote. Instead, he picked fights with the press constantly and then he picked a fight with the teacher’s union. They shut down school last Spring and protested at the capital about their pensions. Bevin essentially went Marie Antoinette on them and it backfired.

Would I have preferred Bevin won rather than Beshear? Sure. Did I particularly care? No. Why? The legislature in the state can override his vetoes with just a single vote. Before this, Beshear was unpopular and he had no role in the legislative process. He was insignificant in a normal world.

Who in the world could’ve predicted this nonsense and that he would try and govern like a dictator?

Hey, you support deadender candidates that you know are going to lose just to send a message.

    THAT is beyond hopeless.

  422. NYCmike says:

That was actually a pretty logical argument, Robbie.

You have learned a hard lesson.

Think about that for next November.

  423. NYCmike says:

“Hey, you support deadender candidates that you know are going to lose just to send a message.”

    -That’s not true.

  424. Robbie says:

The other thing about Bevin is the Republicans in the state legislature hated him. He wouldn’t work with them on anything and he often refused to even speak with them. He had to work hard to lose and he did just that.

    – It’s a fair question, but I think China has a lot riding on this. Their economy is really hurting as well. If it goes into a serious recession and lots are jobless, it could put severe pressure on communist government’s ability to control its people.

California Governor and Science believer Gavin Newsom agreed. “Ron DeSantis is a witch! Burn him!” Newsom said about the Florida governor. Experts widely believe DeSantis used something anti-Science — like black magic — to violate what Science said should be true.

    5/07 – 15.6%
    5/14 – 25.3%

The blip in the Texas numbers yesterday was partly due to the failure of worldometers to capture Dallas County’s numbers for Wednesday, which lately have been about 200 cases and 7 deaths per day. Also, Gov. Abbott has ordered 100% testing of all nursing homes and all prisons. So Thursday’s numbers showed a “double dip” for Dallas County.

Similarly, some of the other big blips for Texas was for when Tarrant County caught up with the Federal Prison system to account for cases and deaths in a large federal prison in Fort Worth – a prison housing many prisoners with those underlying medical conditions. Tarrant reported over 400 new cases that day.

Morale of the story – follow the trends. There may be a story behind the blips.

Of course the media will tell you that it’s due to the reopening. BS.

Let’s be clear what this article says and doesn’t say. One of the people leading the research says there’s a 50/50 chance, not because the vaccine doesn’t work, but because there may not be enough cases of coronavirus spreading through the community. That’s a big difference.

A 50% reduction in the universe of people who could get sick would be a tremendous achievement.

    – Two things.

    1. The 50/50 in the story applies to whether there is enough virus circulating to judge the effectiveness of the vaccine.

    2. The flu shot each year is created based on surveillance in the Southern hemisphere. If the strain that dominates the northern hemisphere is different, then we have a problem as we did in 2017/18.

The key difference right now between the flu and coronavirus is there are many strains of the flu with many mutations. So far, coronavirus has mutated, but not in a way that has affected it severity or caused another unique strain.

I find it hard to give these polls any credible thought. The only real news occurring is the following.

Big wins in California 25, California state Senate, Wisconsin congressional seats, Nebraska 2, Virginia city council’s, Pennsylvania city council’s. All in blue to moderate population area’s with the exception on Wisconsin congressional.

I think that folks are missing how devastating the real data is revealing about the Democrats position in the upcoming election. Talking heads in the media would rather talk about flawed narrative driven polls to uphold the illusion that Biden and the dems are doing fine but the real data shows that this is not the case.

First we have the election of CA 25. No matter how you cut it this was blowout and about a 20 point swing from 2018. But more than that other state seats flipped. But that is not the big bomb. The big bomb is what happen in Staunton, Virginia a place that has been in the lead of Virginia going from red to blue. The Democrats were swept out of office in what can only be called a stunning result!

So folks go ahead and believe these media and college polls. However the real data, at least so far, of actual votes is revealing a far different electoral enviornment. In fact with the Staunton results I now believe that Virginia is a state that could possibly flip back to red in 2020. Don’t get me wrong, these wins are a shot in the arm for morale and for fund raising and it dampens the Dem “blue wave” narrative.

Meanwhile, in 2020, there have been some races in which dems have exceeded the partisan lean, and some which republicans have, but the overall average of the raves so far is no margin swing.

Jason and D. It will either be a red wave or a Biden win. It won’t be in the middle. Such as trump wins and dems win the house. For trump to win he must win the 31 districts the gop lost in 2018. No way someone in those districts who votes for trump splits their ticket to vote for the “moderate” dem who was going to work with but instead voted to impeach him. He was mocked by the dems and the media. Protests erupted. They were not just repubs protesting, it was Americans of all persuasions. The dems and the media attack these everyday people. They get big tech to censure these people. Now big tech is not just censuring conservative voices. Everybody nows sees the cannard. They know they are being lied to. Who will they choose, the party keeping their thumb on their lives or the person preaching hope. The proof of this is right here on this board. Robbie is saying the totalitarianism is wrong and that that Trump will win if there is a vaccine. The pot is simmering.

  768. Big E says:

In addition, every week until the election day there will be releases from DNI regarding spying. There will be FOI requests that will be leaked. The media and the dems will sink to new lows in approval. Dem voter enthusiasm will continue to fall. Their convention will turn into a circus. Shortly thereafter a vaccine will be made available. Well, just look at the stats.

95% of college professors, probably 99% of History professors, are flaming liberals.

Sometimes you don’t have to eat the whole egg to know that it is rotten.

  779. jason says:

However, I have watched a lot of WWII programs on the History Channel, a lot about how Hitler came to power, the different campaigns, the war in the Pacific, the study of various wrecks from naval battles, etc. A lot of interesting st-ff.

  780. VictrC says:

I actually think that this November the election is going to be crystal clear. At least what you are voting for.

If you want America in the future to be run in a way that resembles How things are being run in places like NY, MI, CA, IL and PA you will vote for Biden and Democrats.

If you want America in the future to be run in a way that resembles how things are being run in places like TX, FL and GA, then you will vote for Trump and Republicans.

    Crystal Clear.

  781. DW says:

Thanks Marv, I agree and will get the poll started right away.

  782. jason says:

It’s the pneumonia that results from the infection that kills, correct?”

From what I have read, the virus is only a serious threat when it attacks the lungs, otherwise the symptoms are fairly mild. And that seems to happen in about 15% of the cases.

  783. Phil says:

Bitter, in what way do you think Sullivan hiring a lawyer is a smart move? Have you ever heard of any judge doing anything like this?

The whole think is bizarre every step of the way. I have never seen any judge go out of his way Like this to personally try to put someone behind bars.

  784. jason says:

Vic, if that is how people voted Trump would win. Despite the large percentages of people who don’t feel threatened by socialism, I still think the capitalist system has majority support.

But only the political junkies like us, and our counterparts on the left, vote like that. Most people are not that interested in politics, and they vote on other issues rather than the big picture.

Many people who don’t think we should have open borders will nonetheless vote for a party that will allow it, and for a President who will appoint SCOTUS judges that will allow it, that is just one example.

It might be crystal clear to you and me. To a large percentage of the population, it isn’t.

Unless Trump can make the case.

  785. jason says:

I am not a lawyer, but from a common sense perspective I certainly agree with Bitter.

Sullivan is on thin ice, hiring what everyone agrees is a pretty “heavyweight” lawyer to make his case for him seems like a pretty smart move, whether it is common practice or not.

  786. jason says:

Fat Pricker is really going to have to come up with some big numbers today or Worldometer is going to be a total bust for the lockdown brigade.

It is 2:30 PM and we don’t even have 10k cases or 400 deaths yet. No, Navajo Nation is not in yet, so there is that.

  787. Phil says:

Fat Pricker is holding back to see ho many case numbers he needs. That and Wolf has his reserve from Philly left to report.

  788. VictrC says:

Jason, a good response/analysis, but I would like to add that this year (just like everything else in 2020) is, or at least could be, different.

The reason? People are actually living the consequences of the socialist policies. They can see that the reach and effects of socialist leaders extend beyond economic. You and I and political junkies have always been able to see this, but now the average American is seeing this.

The average Joe who might vote Dem in Michigan because their union dad did, and their union grandpa did, and have because of that, might think twice about it when they see the restrictions that are coming. When they see that losing their hard earned and negotiated benefits are going to be gone (becuase make no mistake, a dem victory will guarantee single payer, whether through legislation or EO). They see how their lives can be controlled by the government. No planting seeds, no fishing, no going to visit a neighbor because the leaders in their exactly intelligence know better.

Now, it might only be a handful that make this realization, but we only need a handful in each of those states to make a difference.

Another was about Wilson’s foreign policy AND being a racist dirtbag.

Phil/Marv – If Sullivan violated court procedures/rules, he could be sanctioned or removed. If he broke the law, he could be prosecuted. Time to call a lawyer.

It was reported on Tuesday transmission rates had increased from a reproduction number of 0.9 to 1.0, which meant an infected person would now infect one other person.

Lockdown restrictions in the country had been eased on Monday with smaller stores allowed to re-open, along with car and bicycle dealers and bookstores.

But Paul Hunter, Professor in Medicine, University of East Anglia (UEA), has stressed there has not been a rise in cases.

He said: “Despite suggestions that cases of COVID-19 have started to increase again in Germany following relaxation of its lockdown measures, this does not appear to be the case.””

In the U.S. lockdowns are continuing not for the benefit of the public health; instead they are a political tool that the left thinks will prevent the re-election of Trump.

Several days ago had a chance to visit Bryce National Park. Very few people were there. Was able to visit popular scenic overlooks, such as Inspiration Point and Bryce Point, with no other people present — usually they are crowded with people. In the afternoon more people trickled into the park, but still only a small number. It was a unique experience that likely will never happen again. The park rangers are preparing for major crowds over the Memorial Day weekend.

On the way back on Friday; the interstate was packed with vehicles leaving California. At Cajon Pass there was about a four/five mile traffic jam of cars and trucks trying to leave the Los Angeles basin. That is normal Memorial Day traffic.

San Diego is beginning to open up. The parks were packed with people this weekend. Restaurants starting to open and are crowded. Fewer people are wearing masks — although it still may be the majority. Am not seeing people taking the lockdown that seriously now, and they want the restrictions to end.

  838. SanDiegoCitizen says:

Last month, there were claims that mathematical models showed the death rate from CORVID-19 in Sweden would surge explosively because they did not enact a lockdown. The average daily death rate in Sweden has actually fallen by half in the last month:

3.) Week of April 20-26 Average Daily Deaths 93
    4.) Week of April 27 – May 3: Average Daily Deaths 69
    5.) Week of May 4 – May 10: Average Daily Deaths 78
6.) Week of May 11-May 17 Average Daily Deaths 65
    7.) Week of May 18 – May 24 Average Daily Deaths 46

So far, CORVID-19 has killed only 59 Swedes under the age of 50, despite no lockdown. All those young Swedes at coffeeshops and restaurants the leftist press was sneering out, saying they would soon be dropping dead like flies, seem to have made it through just fine. They did not have their lives needlessly disrupted

The number of Swedish new cases has recently gone down slightly. Do not know what impact increased testing has on these numbers. One benefit to not having a lockdown is that it makes a second wave of infections much less likely.

1.) Week of April 6-12: Average Daily New Cases: 453
2.) Week of April 13-19: Average Daily New Cases: 557
3.) Week of April 20-26 Average Daily New Cases: 608
4.) Week of April 27 – May 3 Average Daily New Cases 525
5.) Week of May 4 – May 10: Average Daily New Cases 572
6.) Week of May 11 – May 17: Average Daily New Cases 546
7.) Week of May 18 – May 24: Average Daily New Cases 473

Where Sweden failed badly was in its nursing homes. Over half the CORVID-19 deaths were among nursing home patients. Sweden put its mursing homes in lockdown on April 1st, and prohibited visitors; but like in New York, something went wrong. A Swedish prosecutor is now investigating.

“Had some wonderful phone calls within this sector, tribal leaders, just a few days ago, 100 plus tribal leaders, getting their feedback. They’re helping us organize the guidance,” he said. “They have been incredible in terms of not only being supportive of the engagement but providing us some incredibly enriching and robust ideas on public health.”

Sorry Robbie. The lockdowns cannot end.

The crisis cannot be allowed to expire until November 3rd.

    – In some states like mine, the crisis won’t end until the current governors are gone.

It was quite apparent to me by April 1, many of these governors were never going to give up their emergency powers without a massive fight. And unfortunately, most aren’t putting up any fight.

As an example, today there was a small protest at our capital and someone hung Andy Beshear in effigy. Of course, the press went bonkers and the president of the senate, the senate majority leader, and the speaker of the house all put out statements condemning the action.

None of them have put out statements condemning Andy Beshear’s dictatorial power grab.

This came from a column on BBC, but the data is from the Imperial College in London (the institution that published the non-peer reviewed report that caused the mass panic).

  890. Robbie says:

Can someone explain Pompeo’s thinking to me? If he runs for Senate, he wins a gimmie race. On top of that, the Senate gives him a platform from which to launch any presidential future presidential run.

On the other hand, Trump’s no shoe-in for re-election so Pompeo could be out of a job in just eight months. He could become a FoxNews contributor, but that’s not a great platform from which to launch a presidential run. Ask Santorum.

If Pompeo doesn’t want to be a senator, that’s one thing. However, Pompeo’s ambitious and he can do the party a real favor by running. It seems to me the goodwill from a move like that would aid any future run, whereas the opposite might hurt him in 2024.

I don’t think I’m breaking any news here, but the 2020 election looks really tough right now. Shouldn’t it be all hands on deck to save every seat? Sometimes, being a team player really is important.

    – Anyone still want to make the case Anthony Fauci’s not an attention seeker with a massive ego?

  892. Phil says:

“Shouldn’t it be all hands on deck”

Robbie, Republican recruitment doesn’t work the same way as Democratic recruitment. I should say, it works the same but Democrats as individuals all work as one unit all in for the cause. It’s the reason Bullock is running in Montana. With them, it IS ALWAYS ALL hands on deck. Republicans generally, don’t defer to the cause.

Pompeo? I mentioned it yesterday. Certain senate seat in exchange for probably six more months as SOS and then he’s out on the street. I don’t get it. Makes no sense….except to say that many Republicans couldn’t care less which party is in charge in Washington. Democrats do very much. They play to win. The Republicans in Washington are just happy to be part of the government. It doesn’t matter that much to them if they are in the minority. Sad, but true.

  893. Robbie says:

I agree. Democrats play to win. Republicans rarely do.

  894. jason says:

If Pompeo leaves now, he might think it looks like he is running from the bogus whistleblower thing.

You can’t fire him politically, but I’d be happy if they just threw him in a room somewhere and he’d shut the hell up.

The lockdown to “flatten the curb” turned out to be pure BS. We know now the hospitals were never going to be overcrowded. The only way that would have ever happened was for the mortality rate below the age of 50 to be significant. Fauci and Blix got their foot in the door when they got Trump to buy into the lockdown with this flatten the curve BS. Now we know the lockdown is perpetual. The goal posts have never quit moving. Now it’s we don’t open until the cases are down to next to nothing….followed no doubt by we have to stay closed until there a is a vaccine because it might come back.

Thirty five million out of work, mountains of debt that we can never repay, and businesses and jobs gone forever.

No, I’m not a fan of Fauci.

  898. Bitterlaw says:

  899. Tgca says:

    960

Agreed Phil. Fauci was a bureaucrat they relied upon because of his education and experience but it turned out he was not appropriately advising gubbermint leaders, and completely misread the situation. In Corp America, with all his missteps, he would have been shown the door or demoted. This is a classic example of why you take what bureaucrats say with a grain of salt. By letting him be in all the meetings and go on TV, he gave the impression the extreme measures were needed and forced the hands of the leaders that lead to many of the draconian measures that destroyed the US economy. Some folks like the MSM get fooled into believing because you are trained in an area that you must therefore always be right. We know in Corp America that is BS and that’s why some of the best and brightest often get canned when they miss the mark.

Fauci missed the mark big time!

  900. Tgca says:

No, what Phil is saying is that Fauci’s arrogance led him to miss the mark but instead folks were fixated on his 40 years as a bureaucrat and his credentials to believe he was the “leading expert” whose advice should be followed. A dubious claim often others use when someone has certain credentials, is published, or leads an agency. This guy has not practiced medicine in decades and is not on the front line to see what other practicing medical professionals have seen. That’s why he keeps walking back comments as the facts prove him wrong or his claims exaggerated.

I cannot wait until they do an investigation and then we see how many times he was wrong. They need to show the date of every statement he made and then contrast it with what later was known.

  907. jason says:

    DeWine is a RINO?

    Who knew?

    Number 68746

Seems to me DeWine has done a great job. He was one of the first to recognize the danger, the numbers for Ohio look pretty good considering the large population and several large urban areas as a result, and he has reopened large sections of the economy.

We need more RINOS like him.

  908. jason says:

We need more RINOS like DeWine on churches…

CLEVELAND (WJW) — Many of Ohio’s houses of worship began reopening this weekend after President Donald Trump declared them as essential services on Friday.

The President identified churches, synagogues and mosques as essential services and called on governors to allow them to reopen this weekend despite the threat of the coronavirus. He also said he would overrule any governor who refused to reopen churches.

While this statement didn’t directly impact Ohio’s governor, as Mike DeWine never ordered churches to close under his stay-at-home order, many places of worship had chosen to close due to the pandemic.

“You know, churches have never been closed by our order. They were exempt,” Governor DeWine reiterated in a Friday interview with our sister station WTRF. “Any religious services were exempt. Weddings were exempt. Funerals were exempt. So, that has never been a part of our order at all. We have cautioned people to be careful. People have been very cautious about being safe, but at the same time, they obviously want to continue to worship God and to practice their religion.”

  909. Wes says:

RINO means anyone Tina doesn’t like, Jason.

  910. VictrC says:

We have to abandon this litmus test. The United States is HUGE, and its like trying to say that 50 different countries have to act and believe the same way. Every state is different and we should be ok with Conservative enough for that state…with the caveat that they don’t pull too many Romney or Flake moves.

With that said deWine is as conservative as we are going to get in Ohio. Remember, this is the state that had Kasich as a Gov. DeWine is to the right of him and ill take that any day over the alternative.

    Thank you

  911. VictrC says:

With regards to Fauci, as much as we want everyone in Trump’s sphere to be as conservative as possible, Fauci was a very necessary and valuable part of combatting this virus.

A good CEO evaluates all the positives and negatives someone brings and then utilizes their skill set to the benefit of the team and the situation.

Fauci brought 40 years experience dealing with infectious diseases, as well as the gravitas of holding this position for a long time…and, since he is an avid Hillary supporter, he brings a certain gravitas and validation/legitimacy to the administration at a time when Trump needed Americans to listen to him in order to flatten the curve.

His positions and recommendations should be assessed for how they apply to the virus and its handling from a scientific perspective, and weigh them against the economic cost and that is what Trump did. When his expertise was less necessary and the economy took precedent Trump slowly relied on him less and the results are America is slowly getting back.

This is what a good CEO does. Fauci was very valuable to the team. Fauci is not infallible. Fauci’ s influence on the situation is less than it used to be, for reason.

    All can be true

  912. Bitterlaw says:

Wes – I’m not sure even Tina trusts Tina.

Jason – Trump never makes a mistake. Only the people he appoints and listens to make mistakes but it is never his fault. Get with the program.
