PPP has Trump down only 4 in North Carolina? Seems like a definite Trump win. Frankly 2 of the close bell weather states are North Carolina and Florida. I know Trump is going to win in Florida; North Carolina is a clincher for me.

I hope this guy is right.

“Despite recent polls that identify Joe Biden as the heavy favorite in 2020, a political science professor is still standing by his prediction model that shows President Trump having a “91 percent” chance of winning in November.

Mediaite reported on Wednesday that Stony Brook professor Helmut Norpoth is doubling down on his “Primary Model,” which has correctly predicted five out of the past six elections since 1996 and every single election but two in the past 108 years.

“The Primary Model gives Trump a 91 percent chance of winning in November,” Norpoth said. “This model gets it right for 25 of the 27 elections since 1912, when primaries were introduced.”

As Mediaite noted, the two elections the model failed to predict were the 1960 election of John F. Kennedy and the 2000 election of George W. Bush.

Norpoth’s model examines the results of presidential primaries as the strongest indicator as to the outcome in the general election, not the polls that dominate the political discussion. According to Norpoth, Biden is in a much weaker position than Trump because of his poor showing in the first two primary races.

Before making the stunning comeback in the South Carolina primary and carrying the following races, Biden came in fourth place in Iowa with just 15.8 percent of the vote and came in fifth place in New Hampshire with just 8.4 percent. Norpoth stressed that enthusiasm is key.

“The terrain of presidential contests is littered with nominees who saw a poll lead in the spring turn to dust in the fall,” Norpoth told Mediaite. “The list is long and discouraging for early frontrunners. Beginning with Thomas Dewey in 1948, it spans such notables as Richard Nixon in 1960, Jimmy Carter in 1980, Michael Dukakis in 1988, George H.W. Bush in 1992, and John Kerry in 2004, to cite just the most spectacular cases.”

    3. jason says:

PPP is agenda driven polling, but one message it has is a warning to any Rs stupid enough to try to run away from Trump.

Tillis better stick to Trump like Robbie on a pile of horse crap.

    4. SanDiegoCitizen says:

There was a OpiniumResearch@guardian “poll” that recently came out. It was conducted online:

“The survey was conducted online and weighted to represent the US adult population according to demographics, education and past voting behavior”.

It was survey of an existing panel that OpiniouResearch advertises on their website for people to join:

      “Why join our panel?

      Generous and flexible rewards
As a member of our panel, we offer generous rewards for participating in our research. You can claim your reward in whatever way makes most sense for you.

      Diverse surveys on important topics
Our surveys are some of the most diverse out there meaning there’ll always be a research topic that will get you passionate and excited.

      Shaping public conversations
As part of our panel, you can be part of research that shapes the decisions of government, charities and brands.”

Does anybody really believe that this is a legitimate polling? Yet these type of surveys are becoming more common, and liberals are reassuring themselves they prove that Trump is doomed.

Last time I was with him, back in January, I asked him “What is your reasoning?”. His answer was he values Intelligence when he votes for President.

I said “Ok, I guess we have different views on what that word means, but fair enough.” I wasn’t looking to argue much with him.

Just the other day, I texted him “The dictionary has a new way to spell “intelligence”…. B I D E N”…… still no response from him.

    17. Stonewall DW says:

18 – wow, that was almost like my parody exchange between Biden and Chris Wallace in the last thread!

I have noticed that Biden has a ‘safe thought’–whenever he knows he is mentally lost and needs to get back on track, he appeals to taking too much time, or the need to move on to the next question. Someone should do the work and put together a montage of these to show how he does this when mentally stuck.

    18. Phil says:

      19

I’ve noticed the same pattern with Biden when he loses his train of thought. Yeah, a montage of that would be really revealing.

    21. jason says:

Was 1/2 of Oklahoma just declared a Native American reservation today?”

Yes. The other half was given to BLM.

Manhattan will be renamed Manhattan and will be returned to the Manhattan Indians.

They will have to return the $24 and the beads.

    23. jason says:

Sounds like the most immediate effect will be more casinos and increased liquor sales.

Plus, a slew of people will claim to be Indians so they won’t have to pay taxes.

“The ruling means that for the first time much of eastern Oklahoma is legally considered reservation land. More than 1.8 million people live in the land at issue, including roughly 400,000 in Tulsa, Oklahoma’s second-largest city.

Tribe members who live within the boundaries are now set to become exempt from certain state obligations such as paying state taxes, while certain Native Americans found guilty in state courts may be able to challenge their convictions on jurisdictional grounds. The tribe also may obtain more power to regulate alcohol sales and expand casino gambling.”

The translation is that Biden uses “taking up too much time” every time he forgets what he wanted to say.

Hey Bitter, watch this and tell me Biden is not mentally impaired.

    26. jason says:

24: Was depreciation included in the transaction?”

There could be an issue. According to Bunu, if the $24 had been invested in gold, it would now be worth 896 trillion dollars.

So the Indians might have to pay the difference if they want to keep the island.

So if we are honest with ourselves we are seeing a bit of a spike in deaths. Again we are nationally at about the same level NY was running on its own for a while. The actual rate of deaths based on previous 1 week/2 week/3 week cases continues to drop (Younger people, weaker strain.) CA, FL and TX along with AZ appear to be the hot spots although still low given their population. The question to me though is where did NJ find 106 new deaths while reporting only 334 new cases. NY only had 32.

Where have I said I’m fine with giving the vote to millions of illegals? Answer: nowhere. I know immigration is an issue that’s very important to you, but let’s not go down that road.

Also, I don’t care what happens to Trump. Sorry, but I don’t. I do care about the Republican Party so I hope he finds a way to get his train wreck campaign back on the tracks so it doesn’t leave the party in an ash heap. Because if he does lose, at least a narrow loss likely leaves a good number of Republicans left to fight whatever Biden proposes.

    60. Tina says:

It’s hard to know if there is a death spike, when several states keep reporting older deaths. When did they occur? Weeks or months ago?

Did the 4 day weekend keep the rates lower than normal?

CA, FL, TX and AZ are up. There is no doubt about that. The last 3 days have averaged 948. There may be some missed counting, but not to that extent (except for NJ. Who knows what they are doing.) The main thing is that the death rate vs cases is in the 2% range. At the peak it was around 8%

    79. Phil says:

Bitter, they absolutely work damn hard. I can testify to that…but like most low wage earners they would vote Democratic overwhelmingly plus you can be sure the Democrats would play the race card every election (you know they would).

Hispanics in Texas are a different breed from the ones in California. Republicans get about 38% of the Hispanic vote here. Imagine it is less than half that in woke California. Illegals in Texas would vote universally Democratic. You could say bye bye to Texas. Of course the Democrats know this so citizenship and voting rights will be the top priority for Schumer and Pelosi once the filibuster is gone.

    87. Robbie says:

I was just looking at some of the graphs for each of the states.

Florida *fingers crossed* looks like it may have peaked and could ready to decrease. I like that it had a high plateau, then a spike peak, and then several days since that look like the high plateau that occurred before the peak.

California looks like it’s in the peaking process, but it’s not as clear to me as Florida is. I have noticed the cases in LA County appear to be declining so that’s a positive.

Arizona looks like it has topped, at least for now, but I think we’ll know more by mid next week.

Texas, on the other hand, doesn’t look so good. Maybe it’s going to go parabolic and then back off just as quickly. The Houston area appears to already be in decline so hopefully it’s signaling the rest of the state won’t be far behind.

Georgia and South Carolina look peakish as well, but I’m just eyeballing it.

The decline in newly diagnosed cases has been even more dramatic. In late June, Sweden diagnosed more than 1,800 people per day as COVID-19 positive. Today, just two weeks later, only one-sixth of that number are testing positive on a daily basis.

On paper, Sweden suddenly looks like a stunning — albeit late-running — success. But experts are warning that their recent spell of good news does not mean the country’s no-lockdown plan was successful, or that other countries should follow its path.”

“The latest cases are mainly linked to younger people who contracted covid-19 after traveling out-of-state or while socializing, said Dr. Graham Snyder, UPMC’s medical director of infection prevention and hospital epidemiology.

“This is the pattern I’m seeing everywhere I look,” Snyder said.

The intensity of the disease in the newest cases also isn’t matching the severity that was seen in the early stages of the pandemic, Snyder said.”

“While the number of positive covid-19 cases have increased, the number of people who require hospitalization has not jumped at the same pace, the UPMC officials said.”

    142. Hugh says:

Nat. I agree. Generally after some big event like the riots over time the polls settle back to where they were before the event. I believe that will be the case here. The only reason it isn’t happening quickly is because of cases cases cases which is all the press reports on. Eventually that narrative will grow old. Also, kids will have to go back to school in one form or another. Making it difficult to argue for mail in ballots. In two months As the dust begins to settle out the election will no longer be a referendum on Trump put a referendum on America. No amount of fake news or polling will change that.

    147. Pitchaboy says:

It is a less severe disease in the young. Therefore, hospitalization rates will be lower. However, if a large number of young people get infected, even with lower rates of hospitalization, hospitals can be overwhelmed. This is being seen in parts of FL and TX. Not here. We went through that in April

      – In April and early May of 2016, James Mattis considered a third party challenge to Trump and Clinton. Had he run, I’d have voted for him. He’d have lost, obviously, but I’d have voted for him.

In May 2016, Romney considered a third party run against Trump and Clinton. A late May 2016 poll done by ABC found a three way race at Clinton 37 Trump 35 and Romney 22. That would have been a pretty high starting point for third party challenger and I would have voted for him.

Investment bank Credit Suisse estimates this change in taxes would increase the effective rate by 4% to 5%, and slash $9 off estimated S&P 500 earnings per share. “The president has long said he is willing to work with Congress on a negotiated legislative solution to DACA, one that could include citizenship, along with strong border security and permanent merit-based reforms,” Deputy Press Secretary Judd Deere said in a statement. “This does not include amnesty. Hugh if you think that you are going to hear good news through the media you can forget it. They want to depress you. What is going on is much worse than 2016. Just remember that in the course of the last two months the democrats have embraced radicalism that is beyond the pale. They are now the party that is against the law enforcement, against people protecting their homes through the 2nd amendment, they are for wiping out the energy sector of our country, in fact they will destroy the economy, they are for lockdowns, and the destruction of history. There is no way for them to moderate. In time these views will slowly seep in to the citizenry.

Let me give you a good example of how to find good news. Thomas
Friedman’s column reveals that democrats are terrified of a Biden/Trump debate because Joe’s brain is going downhill fast. That is good news.

Now let’s talk about how to look at polls for the next few months. Number one please remember that the people who pay for these polls want to Trump to look bad. Because of that you shouldn’t pay them much attention. Don’t try and unscrew them. Just remember where they come from and that there purpose is to drive a narrative. But most of all please remember that there is a huge “shy” Trump vote. People in this wacky time are afraid if they say they support Trump because they will have a brick thrown through their window or their car key holed. They see folks who are fired for simply saying they support him. This factor renders all these polls meaningless. Don’t drink the koolaid that many on this site buy into and wring their hands as they lurch from poll to poll. Remember that these polls are going to show Trump terrible doing except for an occasional one that will be labeled conveniently as an outlier. Hugh it is time to buck up. Don’t drink the kool aid!

We took a lot of abuse while putting up these signs. I did this because I believed Mitt Romney to be very decent man and good conservative.

Having said that, I am disgusted with him now and would never have done any of that if I had known what an unprincipled political hack he really was.

Joe Biden will select a wild-eyed radical as running mate who will, most likely, abdicate the presidency to when they find his drooling hulk in the Oval Office soon after his inauguration.
