HERE’S WHAT KEEPS TWO DEM STRATEGISTS AWAKE AT NIGHT: Yes, Biden looks like he’s headed to a November landslide against President Donald Trump. But did you know that Biden has gained only four points over Trump since the latest coronavirus panic began? Here’s two veteran Democratic campaign strategists who point to manifold reasons Democrats are celebrating prematurely. And on CNN, of all places!

    39. Phil says:

Border counties of Hidalgo and Cameron are accounting for a quarter of Texas deaths over the last three or four days. Hidalgo alone had 56 Thursday and Friday (didn’t report today). That 56 total was 26% of Texas deaths during those two days.

Of course the urban counties of Dallas, Harris, Bexar, Travis, and Tarrant are where the spikes in cases have been by far the most pronounced. Just looking at the case numbers I suspect we are still at least five or six days from peaking.

Masks are mandatory and if there is anything to this mask stuff that should help. However, Harris County has required masks for the last three weeks and the numbers of cases have continued to increase in Houston. I think masks are highly overrated but wear mine whenever I am in any enclosed public place. Everyone else is as well. No exceptions. This thing will just have to run its course. Abbott isn’t shutting the state back down I can promise you that.

One last thing. According to the IHME Model universal masks (the present policy here) is supposed to begin dropping the death count rather quickly beginning in around 7 0r 8 days. We will see.

There is no doubt that until then it is going to be a very ugly week coming up numbers wise. Again, it will just have to run its course. There is no other way around it. For perspective however, our present 100 a day death count is about 75 over what it was a month ago. Compare that to NY where they were topping 550 each day for a solid four weeks in April. Seventeen straight of those days they topped 800 deaths per day peaking at 1000 plus.

    40. jason says:

      July 4 deaths 265
      July 4 cases 49818

      July 11 deaths 733
      July 11 cases 61719

      Jason, what about Texas”

Not bad numbers today, now 3rd day in a row with drop in deaths since the peak, and 3000 cases below the peak.

In fact lowest case number since July 5th.

Here is a new Dallas Morning News Poll which shows Biden +5 in Texas and Cornyn cruising in the Senate race. Believable?!

    72. Wes says:

Back in 2012, MFG used to hype Romney as the kind of bulls hitter (his word) Republicans needed to take on Obama.

Indeed, Romney has a tendency to tell his target audience what they want to hear. Unfortunately he lacks any core principles–aside from hating Trump. Romney makes this apparent by seeming inauthentic rather than giving the veneer of believability to his pandering as Bill Clinton did.

But, hey, talk radio and the Tea Party decided to run Orrin Hatch out of town for insufficient fealty to their ideals.

It’s a textbook case of the Law of Unintended Consequences.

The irony is that, judged on his remarkably successful business career, Romney had the tools to be a successful President. His casual approach to campaigning along with his flagrant lack of authenticity did him no favors against an at best lackluster President buoyed by a fawning press.

    73. Wes says:

Honestly I have a hard time believing Biden will be within single digits of Trump in Texas. That poll at least tries to be semibelievable by saying Cornyn leads handily though it strives mightily to imply Dems have a chance against him by showing him in the low 40s.

All polls are correct. I read it here.

    76. Wes says:

I didn’t say it was a believable poll, Phil. Notice I said it tries to be semibelievable. I buy neither the Trump nor the Cornyn numbers though I believe Cornyn will have a margin similar to what the poll states.

    77. Sheeple,Jr. says:

So you do not believe that Biden will carry TX Independents by 24 pts.( in 2016 Trump carried TX Indies by 14 pts.) and that the PID in TX in November will be R+3(in 2016, the TX exit polls showed R+9.)? This poll does.

Lastly, like Rasmussenless” Biden +10, this poll was conducted mostly over the July 4th Holiday Weekend.

I think Trump’s going to win Texas, but the longer the polling shows the race there is close the more we have to consider that the race there is close. Cruz only won Texas by 2.6 points in 2018 so I guess it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise the state’s closer than we might have thought, at least for now.

The question is whether what we saw in 2018 and so far in 2020 is fundamental shift in how the state votes or just a reaction to the current presidency? My guess is what we’re seeing is a blip that’s being driven, temporarily by suburban voters.

      – I’ve read it’s taking close to a week to get results back right now in states like Florida so when I see a big jump in the cases and, especially, the testing number, it suggests to me a big backlog was cleared.

The question I have is what do the testing areas look like right now. About three weeks ago, I read cars were lined up for miles around the Orlando area to get tests. I wonder if that’s the case now? How crowded those areas are is probably a good indication of what’s currently happening.

There was a 2 mile backup of cars( three lanes) at the drive through; we finally got our results on July 8 from the lab after Two calls, with the last one being on hold for an hour. The lab apologized and said they were beyond swamped. An incredible testing effort is under way here.

In contrast, the state of Ny is only testing about 60,000.

Contact testing cannot ask if the person participated in a protest.

      But isn’t Cuomo, awesome?

My wife and I were tested on June 30 in Fort Myers, FL. The lab apologized and said they were beyond swamped. An incredible testing effort is under way here.

      – Are those testing areas where you live still seeing large numbers of cars backed up? I hope not because that would suggest things are getting better.

For some context, an Infection Fatality Rate (IFR) of 0.65% for #SARSCoV2 would be in line with the 1957/59 influenza pandemic (0.67%). It would be higher than for the 1968/69 and 2009 ones, and far below the 1918/19 pandemic (>2.5%). Non-pandemic seasonal flu IFR is ~0.1%.

The CDC released revised estimates for Infection Fatality Rates two days ago. Their most plausible estimate now stands at 0.0065 (0.65%). While the CDC is not immune to political pressure, I do not believe they would ‘make up’ numbers.

In an interview to PTI on Tuesday, Al Mason, co-chair of the Trump Victory Indian American Finance Committee, asserted that due to the aggressive outreach of Trump, there are indications of a sizable swing of the community away from the Democratic Party they have traditionally supported and voted for.

“More than 50 per cent of Indian-Americans in the battleground states, who have been voting for Democrats thus far, are crossing over to support President Trump, in his re-election bid,” he said.

Mason said his analysis is based on the findings of his team at the grassroots level in some of the key battleground states like Michigan, Florida, Texas, Virginia and Pennsylvania. There is an estimated four million Indian-American population of which about 2.5 million are potential voters in the November 2020 presidential election.
