The pollsters chronically overpoll for Democrat’s in Florida. Don’t worry,Trump wins here. With that in mind these don’t look bad given the source.

    11. jason says:

      Kamala Harris on Biden:

When Biden reminisced about a bygone era of civility in politics, praising segregationists in his own Democratic Party, Kamala Harris condemned him for coddling their reputations.

“To coddle the reputations of segregationists, of people who if they had their way, I would literally not be standing here as a member of the United States Senate … it’s misinformed and it’s wrong,” Harris told reporters last June. “Let’s be very clear. The senators that he is speaking of with such adoration are individuals who made and built their reputation on segregation. The Ku Klux Klan celebrated the election of one of them.”

“Not arguing with them but why would a “young Dem” want an old Fauxcahontas?”

Easy. They want a mother-figure who gives them goodies taken from other people.

    14. Stonewall DW says:

Interesting that we are to the point now where James can now be down just 3 points, 45-48, and nobody says anything about it. Two months ago, that would have gotten a BOOM.

    15. James is going to win. Ask your friends who is the junior Senator from Michigan? Doubt anyone knows.

    16. dblaikie says:

DW that certainly does deserve a boom. I posted a couple of months ago that James would pick up this seat. However what is the poll that shows him with in 3 points?

    17. Sheeple,Jr. says:

The Economist/You Gov Weekly Tracking Poll outdoes its absurdity this week when it comes to the Trump/Biden head-to-head. It shows Biden +10 with a PID of Democrats 42% and Republicans 25%, a 17 pt. difference to get the Biden +10.

Just in time for the election and mail in ballots, IHME has come up with a list of 23 states that need to go back to lockdowns and business closures.

You can’t make this sh-t up.

“More specifically, our model suggests that the following states will be at the point where they will need to reconsider re-imposing mandates:
August: Arizona, Florida, Mississippi, South Carolina
      September: Georgia, Texas
October: Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon
November: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Iowa, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, Utah, Washington, and Wisconsin.

If mask use is increased to 95%, the re-imposition of stricter mandates can be delayed 6-8 weeks on average.

Gary Maxwell was the catalyst for the founding of the most august, revered and influential institution at HHR, the Philly A-hole Club.

That is why Maxwell Day is so important, and each year gets even more so as the A-holes continue to aspire to new horizons.

    34. jason says:

If masks are so effective, why would you still have to impose mandates even after 95% compliance?

    35. jason says:

“If mask use is increased to 95%, the re-imposition of stricter mandates can be delayed 6-8 weeks on average.”

      Makes no sense.

      – I’m sorry, but relying on partisan ID in polling as a reason to discount them is a mistake. It’s hardly a surprise more people consider themselves Democrats than Republicans right now. The economy stinks and Trump remains unpopular less than three months from election day.

I’m not telling you to believe this poll or that poll, but we tried this back in 2012 and it flopped badly. When people decide they like a presidential candidate, they tend to consider themselves part of the party of the candidate they prefer. After George W Bush won 2004, a Gallup poll showed Republicans were the majority party in terms of preference. That’s just how it works.

      – The party ID battle has been raging in this forum for eight years now. In fact, there was some of it back in 2008 when the “delbov curve” was used to claim the national polling was off.

It’s a mistake to confuse “party identification” with actual party registration, but the election day vote will settle this fight.

We got Biden momentum up from last week.

Trump approval 48 down from 49. Last nights sample must have hurt Trump pretty good for approval and him to lose ground in the head to head.

    66. pitchaboy says:

Party ID is mostly meaningless as it reflects what people feel at that time. There is a good 30% that swing from D to I to R and back depending on various factors. Cross tabs are usually give aways to bias in polling. If you have a sample with 60% females, 25% less than 25 years of age or 40% non white, for example, you got bias.

    67. pitchaboy says:

Polling is statistical noise. It is a 2 to 3 point race nationally in favor of Biden and 1 to 2 point in the states that matter in DJT’s favour. It is likely to end in that ball park.

    68. Stonewall DW says:

Some of Trump’s low approval is being affected by Trump supporters who are not as smart as Trump. I know of a few who would definitely say they do NOT approve of his job performance because he doesn’t order tanks into these Antifa protests and wipe them out.

I challenged one such person about the political wisdom of this, and the answer was ‘who cares?’ You elect a man to lead and do the right thing.

This person will vote Trump in the election. No question about that, but does not approve of his job performance.

    69. Gordon Allen says:

Godfather: if one takes the average approval of the days Rasmussen polls head to head the average is at or near 48%. That means his approval rate is 5 points MORE than his head to head rate( 43%). I scratched my head when it was 3-4%. Now it’s FIVE? We are in unchartered waters with past results and common sense out the window. I don’t think Trump has had a approval rate as low as 43% on a single day for several weeks now.

    70. Marv says:

Ok then. Next week it will tied at 46.

    74. Gordon Allen says:

      76. That would show up in Gallup’s party id poll,or in registration data in battleground states where voters register with parties,or primary voting turnout.etc. It doesn’t. Surely not D+ double digits,or anything close to it. The samples/models are rigged,or Republicans simply aren’t answering pollsters,or both to get those numbers.
But for me I even more . can’t reconcile first approval numbers being higher than head to head ( for an incumbent) such as Rasmussen, where Trump’s approval is better than Obama at a comparable stage and the gap with the head to head is significant. Second the strong Biden head to heads in samples which indicate belief Trump will win.Where is Hercule Poirot when you need him?

Well its time for me to bid everyone here farewell. I have been thinking about this for some time now, as I like to see the glass half full and believe that our best days are still ahead of us, and that we will fix what needs to be fix, right the ship and continue the journey. Some actually posted today that they knew we would get sold out on Obamacare at the Supreme Court, how could they know that? Unknown.

But mostly I tired of the nonsense of a couple of posters. Now most folks here are great. But a couple can not help themselves with their smarmy and caustic comments.

Now my brain says, understand they live in a cesspool where crime is rampant and race violence seems to be spiraling out of control. It pervades everything, hell their QB for their beloved football team is a damn convicted felon who did time in the joint. If you had your job handed to an affirmative action candidate or you were stuck in a dead end job defending lawsuits against your employer for contract entered into and wont pay on just cuz the time delay is worth money, that would grind on ya for sure.

All that is true, and they have my pity. But the truth is I dont want to listen to their ad hom attacks. They are both philly @ssholes, and is it any wonder that such a place populated with such @ssholes could start pelting Santa Claus with snowballs. Its probably a miracle Santa got out alive.

So I am therefore bidding all of you a fond farewell. I dont intend to return. Enjoy the bitter rhythmic chants of “No Deal” or whatever it will be next time. Perhaps aluminum bats is the correct answer to some as yet unasked trivia question. Perhaps I will run into some of the rest of you somewhere else on the internet. I wont be that hard to find I use my real name.

Lets kick enough Democrats to the curb to make some real fundamental change in this great country. I am with you in spirit on that task. Thanks for the chance to post here Dave. Bye.

Watching Kamala Harris announced as poor old Joe’s VP choice gives me an opportunity to wonder how might things be different for the Republican party in California if George Deukmejian had run for a third term in 1990 and Pete Wilson had remained in the Senate. Or for that matter, had George H. W. Bush chosen Deukmejian as his running mate in 1988 as Bush 41 had wanted. (Deukmejian didn’t want to turn the state over to the Democrat Lt. Governor)

    111. Stonewall DW says:

With all the talk of which states might flip which direction in the POTUS race, I would point out that in recent history, when the sitting POTUS is running for re-election, there have not been too many examples where states change course and flip–in either direction.

The data below is limited to recent elections where there are no third party candidates collecting significant votes, meaning 1992 to 1996 and 1988 to 1992 are not included due to Ross Perot.

      2000-2004
Bush lost IA 48/49, then won it 50/49
Bush won NH 48/47, then lost it 49/50
Bush lost NM 48/48, then won it 50/49

      2008-2012
Obama won IN 50/49, then lost it 54/44
Obama won NC 50/49, then lost it 50/48

Other than Indiana, you can see that the differences in the results are extremely slight. Given that with Trump, roughly the same number of people who loved him or hated him four years ago still love him or hate him today, it stands to reason that we shouldn’t expect monumental shifts in states flipping. In fact, given the small margins, just those states that were extremely close last time would be in play for flipping either direction: MN, NH, NV, MI, WI, PA.

    112. NYCmike says:

“At this point, it’s a crime to have something like that happen.”

Don Harris, a prominent Marxist Professor, has been offered a full professorship in the Economics Department here …
The appointment is the direct result of student pressure in recent years to hire more faculty who favor an “alternative approach” to economics, said Economics Prof. John Gurley, who now teaches the only undergraduate course in Marxist economics.
Gurley said the appointment of Harris was the culmination of the six-month “round-the-world” search for the most qualified Marxist professor available ….
Gurley called Harris “an exceptionally good teacher, outstanding researcher and one of the leading young people in Marxist economics.”
One knowledgeable source told the Daily that some senior faculty members were very hesitant hiring Harris, but they gradually yielded tp [sic] student pressure.
A conservative economics faculty member, who wished to remain anonymous said he was “not part of the decision and it would not be fair to say anything. “
He also added that “as far as I’m concerned Harris is not in the same field I’m in.”

    139. Brandon says:

#124. As promised, here is your math lesson.

      YouGov poll has the following:

      Biden wins 89% of Democrats
      Biden wins 8% of Republicans
      Biden wins 39% of Independents

So weighted to the following 2016 split(36D/33R/31I) you get the following:

      (89 x .36) + (8 x .33) + (39 x .31) = 46.77%

      Trump wins 5% of Democrats
      Trump wins 86% of Republicans
      Trump wins 38% of Independents

      (5 x .36) + (86 x .33) + (38 x .31) = 41.96%

Next time maybe don’t challenge the math of someone that has a degree in math, and you know, teaches it for a living.

Why do we never hear you moan and groan about any Democrat politician. How about “the Squad” women?

      – Because unlike many in this forum, I hold those in my party to a high standard. It is an embarrassment the Republican Party nominated a QAnon supporter to be in Congress. And frankly, this pathetic episode is a reason why I think Kevin McCarthy has done a poor job. Faced with an opportunity to endorse the QAnon supporters opponent in the Republican runoff, he did nothing.

QAnon believes Trump is waging a secret fight against satanic pedophiles in the US government and around the world. It’s borne out of the lunatic theory that Hillary Clinton was running a child sex trafficking ring out of the basement of Comet Pizza.

    144. michael corleone says:

Robbie you really have a hard time separating the wheat from the chaff. Qanon is utterly irrelevant to life in the US. No one cares about it and no one knows what it is. By contrast the Democrats and their totalitarianism – who you are looking to put in charge of the executive branch and all its departments — have a tremendous negative impact on everyone’s life. In life school we called this separating material issues from immaterial ones.

    145. Brandon says:

      The problem is
Their numbers from their own weights don’t add up to the result

      Biden
      89 x .42 D
      8 x .27 R
      39 x .31
      = 51.63 or 52%

      Trump
      5 x .42 D
      86 x .27 R
      38 x .31 I
      = 37.1 or 37%

That would intimate a Biden 15 point lead but YouGov published a 10 point lead with the weights as above which means they either fixed the numbers post weight bc the sample was so bad or they are just a bad polling outlet

If Biden and trump are tied in independents, carrying essentially the same numbers in their respective parties then the race is more or less +2-4 Biden and no more and considering how much Independent vote isn’t included here tells me they chose to not report soft vote which skews trump

To believe a poll with a lead of more than six is to believe thAt Trump will under perform McCain and Biden will perform as well as Obama. I don’t think anybody believes that. This will be the last gasp of the polling fraudsters. I predict the race will be flat with slight uptick for Biden through their convention. After the Republican convention it will be a bumpy trajectory down. With another electoral landslide. With the virus more than any other election this will be about enthusiasm. I do not see the virus as having any material impact on the GOP get out the vote. However with so many college kids sitting home and loading up all these people on buses for souls to the polls I think there will be a material drop and getting Democrats to the polls. Particularly with their lack of enthusiasm.Nobody mentions the stuff in the main stream media but it’s just common sense.

      Trump 36%
      Biden 31%
      Not sure 33%
      .

    157. Gordon Allen says:

Wonder of wonders. If you take the you guv numbers: I use .9 for both Biden and Trump of their base( I think slightly favorable to Biden given the enthusiasm gap) you arrive at Biden 44.49 to Trump 41.79 or a 2.7% lead .Lo and behold that’s Virtually identical to 2016. Go figure.
Anyone can play with figures, but the bottom line is all depends on the partisan split that turns out to vote, not who answer pollsters. As Hugh points points out the leads are absurd in many of these polls because of gross undersampling- whatever the cause- of Republicans. Republicans are not going to be only 24% of the electorate. BTW I still believe at the moment this to be a 3-4% race.

Frankly I think that reweighing these polls, though interesting, is not that informative. The reason why is that these polling firms not only tilt the result with skewed party id. They also tilt them with the questions asked and the order of the questions asked. They tilt them over or under sampling groups like young voters, or rural voters or suburban women voters or urban voters. My point is that there is alot of stuff that goes into creating these polls that are not meant to be accurate but to support a narrative.

And as far as I concerned they are all suspect. For me, polling in this cycle because of the depth of TDS, is interesting but hardly conclusive or accurate. They may be data points but they are flawed data points. This puts an air mystery into where this election is evolving.

Putting polling aside, the other data points point to a GOP win. Of course I am referring to actual votes in Special Elections, enthusiasm demonstrated by turnout in primary elections where GOP voters didn’t need to turnout, and finally registrations which show momentum for the GOP.

      4. Greater regulation leads to higher barriers to entry for new companies with new technologies.

Frankly I have given up trying to define what is good news about Covid. The whole purpose of the lock down was to “flatten the curve” I think we did that. Yes we have been slow about testing but my question is does the rest of the world get their results in an hour while many here have to wait for a week? Yes we had a spike in cases (bad news) but the mortality rate never came even close to New York and New Jersey during March and April. Isn’t that good news? In addition cases are starting to decline rapidly in places like South Carolina and Arizona. They are also declining in Florida and Texas. Isn’t that good news? It seems to me that the rapid development of a vaccine is good news.

But no one, including Pitch has touched the real bad news!! The terrible action of putting Covid patients into Nursing Homes when there were plenty of rooms available on the Navy Ship or the temporary hospitals that the Army Core of Engineers developed. At least 60000 deaths and perhaps many more were due to that despicable policy. That is the bad news we need to talk about Pitch. But no one in the blue world with a ten foot pool is willing to touch it.

    215. Tina says:

I had addressed the NH disaster back in April. 40% of the mortality in the US and especially in the Northeast stems from poor management of NH. Patients with positive tests were sent back there and that was unconscionable. The problem in the US is a complete lack of central leadership for a major health crisis. Mr. Trump dumped it back on the states and each one has done whatsoever they please. For years this will be taught in public health schools as the prototype of health mismanagement. In my practice, I did not give a damn as to what CDC said. I got PPE on day 1 for my nurses and had universal masking for doctors, nurses and patients. If a patient did not want to wear a mask, they would go tele-health, period. I will vote for Mr. Trump, but to think that he managed COVID well is beyond ludicrous.

    223. Country Dick Montana says:

Robbie is absolutely right. Without good news on Covid, Mr. Trump will lose the suburbs. That is the cold, hard reality.

      – Yeah. I think the best way for Trump’s numbers to improve is for there to be tangible evidence this latest outbreak of corona is subsiding. I follow it closely and, outside of reporting issues from CA and FL, the news has been mostly positive.

I also think Trump deserves a lot of credit for Operation Warp Speed. While it may not produce an approval before the election as we had hoped, it’s certainly going to lead to an approval, probably several, by the end of the year. Just the announcement would change the mindset of the country.

I think another good way for Trump to build some good will and help his polling numbers over the next couple of months is make it a priority to encourage that people get vaccinated. A well thought out PR plan could really boost the number of people who get it and it would make Trump look like he’s tackling the issue head on and driving towards a conclusion for this awful mess we’ve endured.

    225. pitchaboy says:

Mr. Trump is great at reacting: He has gone beyond the call of duty in procuring ventilators, PPE and speeding up the regulatory process for therapeautics and vaccines. He should get credit for that. Where he has failed to grasp this problem is in the public health aspects of it as it directly clashes with his economic agenda. And it happened in an election year.

      – She believes in the QAnon conspiracy there will be a wave of massive arrests of those plotting against Trump and they will all be sent to Gitmo to stand trial in a military court.

      – In 2017, Greene said “Q is a patriot. We know that for sure.” “Q” for those of you who are wondering is supposedly some high ranking person in the government who is leaking info on Reddit forums. In actuality, Q is clearance for someone at the Energy Department.

      – She also said this whopper. “There’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take this global cabal of Satan-worshiping pedophiles out, and I think we have the president to do it.”

      – She said this a about “Q”. “He is someone that very much loves his country, and he’s on the same page as us, and he is very pro-Trump.” “Q” is not real, though.

      – She called the election of Muslims to the House an “Islamic invasion of our government”. Well, I don’t like Talib or Omar, but an invasion of our government?

      – Just this morning, she alleged that an American Airlines plane did not hit the Pentagon on 9/11. She said there’s no proof. I guess the snapshot of the plane from a security camera at a guard post was doctored. She has since backtracked on that this afternoon.

So you wanted to know some things she’s said. Well, here they are. And when she gets to Congress, she’ll say even stupider things because that’s what nuts do. Again, we got rid of Steve King, but we got back someone who is worse.

    246. Big Joe says:

      #258, Brandon-

Exactly. Money is being forced into the market which is unfortunate for those looking for fixed income or conservative investments. I had to help my retired father move some money from savings and bonds to stocks last year because he was losing money after inflation. On the other hand, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my returns over those same 12 months.

Market’s gonna do what the market’s gonna do regardless of who’s winning in November.

Market’s being driven by expectations of a vaccine and another round of stimulus money. If one or both don’t happen soon, then there will be a sell-off, but it won’t be because of who’s ahead in the polls.

I didn’t ask for trends, I have seen those charts, they are trotted out all the time. I am asking why. What justification do you have that says the economy and markets do well under higher taxes and more regulation.

Reagan and Paul Volcker had to cool down Jimmy Carter’s 16% inflation and raised interest rates. Once inflation was under control he outperformed Obama, by a lot.

Obama had a market that was at the dead absolute bottom and near zero interest rates and threw 8 Trillion dollars into the pot. BTW that little spike at the end that raises his increase from 127% to 148%. That coincides with trump election

Clinton had a Republican Congress after his first 2 years that balanced the budget. He also was the beneficiary of the DotCom bubble, which burst about the time of the election of GWB

Trump was doing well in a mature economy and market up until the COVID crisis.

I’ve never been a fan of commodities. I’d rather have the stable track record of the S&P since 1926 of an average rate of return of 10-11% with a positive rate of return in 74% of years. I’ll take those odds. Keep it simple with an index fund and you’ll be just fine.

Ok BJ, which one is it? It sounds like we are going to try to time the market here?

I have never understood the allure of gold. Is it simply not just something else that is traded/bartered because of some perceived value, like a dollar. If things go bad would I trade food that I have for gold? Absolutely not.

      Buying gold is simply speculation.

    254. Country Dick Montana says:

I think we’ll be ok if we find ourselves living in a Biden/Harris administration.

    255. Big Joe says:

“Ok BJ, which one is it? It sounds like we are going to try to time the market here?”

Both. Higher highs in the short term, but I think those highs will be unjustified and unsustainable, so we head lower (maybe sharply) once a top is reached. Honestly, who really knows. This is just me, some weird guy on the internet, giving his random thoughts.

I have a small account that I use for individual stocks, market timing, options trading, and playing around. I would NOT recommend this to be anyone’s core investing strategy. My real portfolio is in growth stocks and growth ETFs. Russell 1000 Growth (IWF) has outperformed the S&P and I think it will continue to do so. I prefer that over the S&P right now but both will be just fine in the long run.

I’m only looking at Gold as a hedge, not as the the next big thing.

If the market do reach higher highs, then stocks become riskier so hedging enters the equation.

And Kristi Noem will be the nominee in 2024.

    317. PresidentPaul! says:

If one of the Trumps isn’t going to run, Pence would have the edge in 2024 I suppose.

No one really dislikes him other than Lincoln project so it would make sense for him to be the front runner.

    318. lisab says:

i don’t think pence would get 100% support from the trumpsters

but trumpsters are not particularly religious. they are more libertarian than pence is.

    319. Country Dick Montana says:

332 – To what do you specifically disagree in 301.

That conformity of thought will be required? – We are already seeing it on college campuses where people are expelled or sanctioned for things as minor as the clothing they wear. We see it everyday in the cancel culture where ordinary lives are ruined for simple transgressions, some of those being years in the past

That we won’t have (or already have) an large intrusive government? That they government is not abetted by a willing and compliant press?

That there won’t be crony capitalism? (See Tech Industry/control of information)

Or do you not agree that when a people fear their government then that is Tyranny? Putting ones head in the sand and just getting along is done out of fear.

I have been in this world a long time. I saw 1967 and 1968. I saw 1992. I saw hatred for Nixon. BTW Nixon went out among war protesters at the Lincoln Memorial in 1970 with just a couple of staff. What do you think Trumps chances of surviving that today?

BTW being a boomer myself, a lot of us wonder what it is that our generation did to raise the screwed up kids that are causing all of the problems today. We are far from perfect.

    320. Country Dick Montana says:

      “Whatever you say, Dick.”

Sorry, if that is the best that you can do then what I said is true and hit the mark.

Just because you don’t have some bomb throwing online persona doesn’t make you any less dangerous than those that do. In a way it makes you more dangerous. You know exactly what you want. As I stated before with the current divisions one side has to subjugate the other. But if my side subjugates you, we will likely leave you alone as we have done in the past. If you side wins it is subjugation by force of the Government.

You have stated in the past that you want “bipartisan good government”, whatever that is. That is pablum and a smart guy like you knows it. Do you believe that we need over 2,500,000 federal employees? Do we need over 60,000 pages of Federal regulations, which BTW was 95,000 under Obama.

When you can state exactly what Democrats will do to make Government better I will listen. Until then, you are voting for and advocating for this.

The flash point,if there is one, will be a concerted effort to eliminate private gun rights; the motive for that will be self-evident( see Venezuela).
I’m hopeful the left would show a modicum of restraints that would be necessary, especially as 2 weeks ago I welcomed my first grandchild into the world.
However my confidence level on that is low. The Spanish Civil War was almost entirely ideologically based. Although some regions were more loyalist than others, and vice versa, there were regions within regions. It was not like our Civil Ear with clear cut state boundaries.
We are closer to the edge than many think, which is why the AOC/” progressive ( read socialist/ Marxist) dominated party today simply HAS to be defeated. Which is why this absurd whining about ” Trump tweets” is so mind bendingly silly. If that makes me appear USA Constitutional Republic obsessive.its because I am.

    328. Country Dick Montana says:

Gordon – I have always felt the same way that guns will eventually be the issue. But here is how it will be done so as not to require confiscation:

      1. Allow robust litigation against gun manufacturers/retailers for the actions of those that use their product for harm. Bankruptcy or divestment by large companies of firearms.

      2. Place high taxes and regulations on ammunition.

      3. Get one more SC judge that will overturn Heller

      4. Simply allow demographics to take over. Fewer younger people hunting (or any outdoor activity for that matter) means fewer needing guns

    332. Sheeple,Jr. says:

Hard to believe that Trump has returned to his “bad” political habits. To wit:

      3) With respect to above #2, these interviews step on his message like yesterday’s fantastic news about the Israel/UAE Agreement
      4) Calling women names like Harris is nasty and mean.

    341. Country Dick Montana says:

359 and 364. The difference is the one party rule of the GOP would (hopefully) be fairly benign. We know what one party rule by the Dems will become.

    342. dblaikie says:

A couple of points about Trump’s behavior. First I agree that his makes us frustrated with tweets and comments that seem just plain stupid. However being stupid with those tweets is just the way he is. But more than that we should not forget that Trump is a street fighter. He faces a media that is trying to destroy him and his family. So why would we expect him to play by “the Marquis of Queensberry rules?” And finally just want to point out even in bogus polls like fox he, even with his bad behavior, is narrowing the race. Just to remind the chicken littles he was 12 points behind in June with Fox and now he is 7. Seems like movement in the right direction to me, despite his tweets.

    343. Pitchaboy says:

    345. Country Dick Montana says:

The Soviet Union and Nazi Germany are no longer, but the toll that it took to rid ourselves of them was high.

That is the point. Once one party rule is established and perpetuated, history shows generally takes violence to be rid of it. The Soviet Union finally dissolved fairly peacefully, but there was a lot of damage and death to get to that point.

Country Dick: you’re no. 3 is the ball game, and will constitutionally authorize some form of confiscation. Gun owners aren’t stupid: they are attuned to a wolf in sheep’s clothing ( btw before some people assume things not in evidence, I’ve Never once held a gun in my hands- although I’m reconsidering that as we speak) BTW, mostly changing topics, many suburban women everyone talks about here are buying them,at least around here. Calhaly from Trafalgar claims that once you buy a gun it generally changed your political outlook permanently. Just saying

    348. Country Dick Montana says:

Gordon – When confiscation starts it will be up to the front line officers to do the confiscating and for the individuals with guns to either comply or not.

I am a coward and will choose life as opposed to shooting it out with the police. Most others will do the same. The Gun grabbers know this too. So we are really relying on our local authorities to say “No” when ordered to do so, and to provide protection when the Feds come to do it.

Either way it will be very messy.

    349. Gordon Allen says:

Heck there was open defiance of prohibition. Go to Asheville,NC and the hills surrounding it which were covered with distilleries; and warnings that any feds showed up at their own risk. They were packing.I don’t I guess have the faith in Democratic restraint as you do. BTW the military is loaded( no pun intended) with people who have relatives with guns ( I know that personally). A possible restraining influence.

    350. Country Dick Montana says:

“I guess have the faith in Democratic restraint as you do. ”

Where have I stated that the Democrats will show restraint?

We are not fighting it out with militarized police forces.

But at the end of the day they do it without confiscation in the manner described in 351 above.

    351. Brandon says:

Just because this nutty woman supports issues that are important to you does not mean you have to excuse or defend her. There are plenty of Republicans who aren’t crazy who would vote just as you might prefer without supporting lunatic ideas like Trump is waging a secret worldwide battle against satanic pedophiles who run a child sex trafficking ring.

This nutty woman is going to be elected to Congress. I’m not calling for her to be denied her seat. I’m calling for the Republican Party in the House to hold her accountable for her fringe theories and do everything they can to distance themselves from her so they don’t spend every day in 2021 answering for her latest wild comments. Or would you prefer every Republican be asked whether they agree with her that Hillary Clinton has a “kill list” of people she’s had assassinated over the years?

I hope the Republican Party chooses to deny her any committee assignments just as they did Steve King. And in 2022, I hope they support a challenger to her in the primary just as they did this year with Steve King.

I chose not to engage, Dick. Simple as that. Did you hit the mark? Wild swing and a miss. But since you allegedly already know what I want and what all Democrats want, and how dangerous I am, what’s the point in further discussion? It’s a little creepy if I’m being completely honest.

“When you can state exactly what Democrats will do to make Government better I will listen. Until then, you are voting for and advocating for this.”

Again, I’m not a spokesperson for the Dem party, nor am I a puppet master (which would be cool, btw). I’ve already discussed in detail my own vision for effective government. I see no reason to go through that again. Anyway, you already know what the Democrats will do, right? As for the document you linked to, do you believe that anyone who votes for a candidate automatically supports 100% of that candidate’s and his/her party’s policy positions along with supporters’ views?

      Good over evil
      Right over wrong

Hope of a better future for my children over less hope of a better future.

      Zzzzzz….

Is that all you have against Fauci?

      – For an expert, he seems to get a lot of the key points wrong.

Fauci’s a fake, a fraud, and phony. He single handedly destroyed American life with his insistence on a soul crushing two month lockdown. It will take years to overcome the destruction his advice wrought for a virus that has a 99.7% total survival rate without any treatments.

There are at 15,000 restaurants that have already closed in the country because of the fear this man created. The airlines have been wrecked, maybe for a decade or more, the cruise lines may never sail again if the CDC has their way, hotels sit empty, and now schools won’t even allow most kids to have classes in-person or play some sports.

I will never forgive Fauci for the destruction to our lives he caused. If you want to give him another medal, then great. I’d rather see the man resign in shame and never be heard from again.

    462. Phil says:

At least Fauci said it was ok to vote in person.

That coming from him I’m shocked.

    463. Phil says:

Just wondering. If a white man had put a bullet into a 5 yr old white child’s head execution style would CNN have reported it?

Asking for a friend. I’ll hang up and listen.

    464. Phil says:

black child that is. We already know they wouldn’t mention it if it was a black man executing a white child. MSM hasn’t mentioned it….not once.

      – Trust me. As soon as he realizes what he said, he’ll change his view or add significant caveats to what he said.

    467. Robbie says:

A University of Michigan cardiologist said the data the Big 10 used to cancel the football season was flawed and the report should be retracted.

I was of the view many of the Big Ten presidents didn’t want to play the season for political reasons. They wanted to make the case Trump has done such a bad job on coronavirus that football can’t be played.

And right on cue yesterday, there was a story in suggesting Trump might lose Ohio because Ohio State fans are mad that football was cancelled.

    468. Robbie says:

This is good news. If you look at the graph of daily new cases, you can see how California’s reporting was affected. Now, that they’ve cleared that huge backlog, we should hopefully see some much lower numbers from the state and that will help the national number come down as well.

On Twitter- Kamala Harris basically accused Joe Biden of being a racist during the debates and her only defense is “it was a debate”.

So did you never think he was racist and knowingly falsely accused him of being one or are you now just ok with being on a ticket with a racist?

So she admits to just lying all the time on stage during debates for whatever reason? Yeah…we want her leading the country…sheesh.

    471. Scooterboy says:

So basically all Pence has to do is bring her “it was just a debate” comment up, and say “well this is just a debate also, if it was ok for you to lie during that one, why should anyone believe you during this one?”

    473. SanDiegoCitizen says:

When Trump appointed his son-in-law as his Mideast envoy, people laughed. They are not doing so anymore, Thomas Friedman just praised Kushner in the New York Times for the recent Israel/United Arab Emirates agreement:

      “It’s a geopolitical earthquake.

To fully appreciate why, you need to start with the internal dynamics of the deal. It was Trump’s peace plan drawn up by Jared Kushner, and their willingness to stick with it, that actually created the raw material for this breakthrough. Here is how.

The Kushner plan basically called for Israel and the Palestinians to make peace, with Israel being able to annex some 30 percent of the West Bank, where most of its settlers were, and the Palestinians getting to establish a demilitarized, patchwork state on the other 70 percent, along with some land swaps from Israel.”
It didn’t work, because Kushner, who was hearing regularly from Egypt, Jordan and the gulf Arabs that such a unilateral Israeli annexation would be a total deal-breaker for them, told Bibi, “Not so fast.” Kushner persuaded Trump to block Bibi’s cherry-picking of the plan by taking annexation now.
      * * *
So what Trump, Kushner, Prince Mohammed bin Zayed, the de facto leader of the Emirates, and Netanyahu did was turn lemons into lemonade, explained Itamar Rabinovich, one of Israel’s leading Middle East historians and a former ambassador to Washington.

“Instead of Israeli annexation for a Palestinian state, they made it Israeli non-annexation in return for peace with the U.A.E.,” said Rabinovich in an interview. Kushner, he added, “basically generated an asset out of nothing, which Israel could then trade for peace with the U.A.E. It was peace for peace, not land for peace.””

Interesting civics note-you can’t actually delay a US election. At the end of their terms, the congressmen, senators, and president would all be mandated (supposedly) to leave their jobs in DC.

All that would be left is the 2\3 of the senate, and I believe whichever party had the majority power among the remaining 2\3 of the senate would become president.

    475. PresidentPaul! says:

I reference 2\3 of the senate because those are the senators who are not up for reelection.

    476. Bitterlaw says:

Here is a question for the doomers. What will the evil leftists do with control? Sure it’s fun to make everybody look stupid wearing masks but that is already getting old. Tax and regulate too much and you can’t afford to spend money on pet causes and projects. Defunding the police will lead to more deaths in poor areas. Inherent to the planned control of everything is that people eventually say F it.

      But Bitter….

If Jefferson wins America will be ruined

If Andrew Jackson wins the country will be ruined

If Lincoln wins the country will be ruined

If FDR wins the country will be ruined

If JFK…Johnson….Carter…Clinton….Obama wins the country will be ruined.

It sucks when Democrats win but the pendulum always swings back. To me, thinking America and it’s most basic ideals can be defeated for good is UnAmerican. I said it. Bring it.

What do you mean can’t afford. MMT says that deficits don’t matter as long as your you’re not taking on debt in a currency that is not your own.

Inflation is not controlled by manipulating interest rates.

The only limiting factor to the spending is supposedly inflation, which is controlled in their eyes by taxation not interest rates.

So if you want velocity to slow down rather than hiking rates as was done in the 80’s by Volcker, you instead keep ramping up taxes until people stop spending.

    478. PresidentPaul! says:

One of the things that is undervalued is that there is usually wisdom in the “the old ways” of doing things in ways that can’t easily be for seen (and I’m referring to the current world wide and US banking system)

There will probably end up being unforeseen benefits to the ways things have been done that can not clearly be articulated until you try to radically change it and run into unforeseen problems.

“I think if carefully done according to the guidelines, there’s no reason that I can see why that not be the case,” Dr. Fauci told National Geographic in an interview that aired Thursday.”

      Let the attacks begin….

    490. jason says:

      Wishful thinking on Bitter’s part.

There will be no pendulum “coming back” if Biden wins.

      You read it here first.

We are not talking of minor policy changes. In the past there were differences but nobody was blowing up Lincoln’s statue or defunding the police and advocating against private property.

We are talking about a completely different system of government based on a completely different set of values.

    491. Robbie says:

Before California and Texas started to report their numbers, we were tracking about 5,500 fewer new cases today than last Saturday.

Now that California and Texas have begun to report, the change week over week nationally may be about 2,000.

A decline is a decline, but California and Texas seem to be reservoirs of new cases. I think California’s numbers today still reflect the counties clearing the backlogs on their dashboards. In Texas, is there some backsliding? This week so tell the tale.

    492. Tina says:

    493. Gordon Allen says:

523/24. The insistence on this vote by mail indicates be to me the Democrat’s don’t believe the polls and are nervous actually about the results. It seems likely that one will not have to even compare economic deprivation with loss of life, as the final death toll following authoritarian lockdowns will most likely exceed the deaths from letting people choose how to manage their own risk. After taking the unprecedented economic depression into account, history will likely judge these lockdowns to be the greatest policy error of this generation.”

The pivot point for the state was the last week of May so is their 11th week. That time span fits pretty well with the idea there’s a 4-6 week ramp up in cases followed by a 4-6 week decline in cases. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Arizona close to levels it saw in late May by the end of next week.

Right now, Republicans need to hang on to senate seats in Iowa, Montana, both seats in Georgia, and one of two from NC and Maine.

This assumes Democratic pickups in Arizona and Colorado and the Republican pickup in Alabama.

This give Republicans a 51-49 senate majority and preserves the filibuster for at least two more years.

Preservation of the filibuster prevents Democrats from ramming through DC statehood (two more Democratic senators) and possibly Puerto Rico statehood (two more Democratic senators), Green New Deal, four trillion in new taxes, path to citizenship and millions of new Democratic voters (in other words, the end of the competitive Republican Party), gun rights, packing the Supreme Court.

      Tillis needs to hang on.

    529. Robbie says:

I think a campaign fixer needs to be parachuted into North Carolina to try and save Tillis. This was done in 2014 when McConnell orchestrated the rescue of Pat Roberts campaign.

nd possibly Puerto Rico statehood (two more Democratic senators)”

Actually, I am a big supporter of statehood for PR.

It is bigger in population than many other states, there is no reason it should not have statehood.

And “2 Democratic senators” is certainly not a given, since PR has routinely elected R governors.

    537. Sean says:

All, Texas is reporting new “cases” – many of which are over 30 days old. In the case of Tarrant County, 1,151 of the 1,443 cases reported yesterday were due to an electronic lab report backlog from the state. This comes from their website:

      https://www.tarrantcounty.com/en/public-health/disease-control—prevention/coronaviruas.html

You can see the epidemic curve (showing a nice decline), hospitalizations, percent positive COVID, etc. All showing nice declines. I kind of wish if outdated cases are discovered, they wouldn’t be reflected in the numbers, but I guess it’s just showing the surge was big in late June-early July and it’s pretty much been mitigated.

      534

      LOL

It is so unbecoming to beg….

Tarrant Co. had over 1400 cases today, 500 yesterday. Only 7 deaths so probably a backlog. Plus there were 800 unassigned cases.

But even with that, it is still lower than yesterday.

Britain has adopted the slogan “don’t kill granny.” Governor Newsom and Kamala Harris in California should use “lets roast granny” as their slogan.

California has had rolling blackouts over the last several days. The reason — California’s crazy environmental policies have resulted in a massive reliance on solar energy. As everyone knows, when the sun goes down so does solar energy production. However, the highest use of energy is often in the early evening, just when solar is no longer available. The result in that in this heat wave, California cannot produce sufficient energy to meet demand, so has to have rolling blackouts.

The blackouts in high heat are life threatening, particularly for the elderly. And keep in mind that Californians pay 60% more for energy than those in other states, and energy costs increased five times higher from 2011-2017 to fund California’s version of the green new deal, which primary relies on new solar.

What your seeing is the Biden-Harris green new deal policies in action. Harris should be held personally accountable for helping to create the disaster in California.

      604. “do you know what is very cheap coal”

Sorry lisab but natural gas is much cheaper (and cleaner). The percentage of coal used in the U.S. for electricity is falling rapidly:
      2018: 28%
      2019: 25%
      2020: 22% (est.)

The percentage of natural gas is rapidly rising:
      2018 34%
      2019 37%
      2020 39% (est.)

The only way I can see coal surviving in the U.S. is for it to be gassifed or used to make hydrogen — which is going to be a big energy gamechanger in the next decade.
