Biden Leads Trump By 3% in GA, Dems Poised To Sweep 2 US Senate Seats in GA

As a lead in to tonight’s debate while you are watching, we have two new polls for the state of Georgia that not only show Joe Biden ahead of Donald Trump, we could be on the verge of a complete sweep for Democrats in both US Senate seats by the time the Special Election is decided in January. First Quinnipiac University shows Biden up on Trump by 3%, but also has Jon Ossoff edging out David Perdue in the first election while Democrat Raphael Warnock is starting to run away with the first slot in the Special Election primary.

These debate demands being tossed around are great! Biden wants 30 Minute breaks and an ear piece. Trump wants 3 Big Macs at the halfway point. Chris Wallace wants a job at MSNBC.

As a person who has watched his Father decline from the age of 75 to 85 mentally with concentration and emotions I can tell you all right now Joe Biden is going to have a very bad night.

Biden is at the stage of decline where he can hold it together somewhat early in the day. But this debate is at night and Biden won’t be able to handle it at all.

I see Biden as the same as my Father used to be…same exact decline. There is no way Biden makes it out tonight without showing the country real mental decline.

It is important to point out that the Quinnipiac polls often are the first to sense national trends:

“New poll shows we’re ‘starting to hear the faint rumblings of a Hillary Clinton landslide’

A poll from Quinnipiac University released on Thursday gave Hillary Clinton a massive advantage over her Republican counterpart, Donald Trump, just 75 days before November’s election.
The poll put Clinton, the Democratic presidential nominee, at 51% and Trump, the Republican nominee, at 41% in a head-to-head matchup.”

i just read the nytimes and wapost reviews of the debate

i did not see the debate, but wow, they say biden mopped the floor with trump!

i never expected biden would be that “clear, concise, knowledgeable and erudite” … the second coming of churchill + abraham lincoln + jfk!

amazing he won the debate so handily!

both the times and the post say polling after the debate shows that biden won 89% to 11%

with only hard core deplorables favoring trump!

    21. lisab says:

actually, i am surprised bitterlaw and wissing haven’t announced the result of the debate yet! 🙂

however … there is definitely the possibility trump could royally mess up …

a.) just a normal trump gaffe the media runs with
b.) a prepared line that biden has memorized and hits trump with
c.) trump beating up an old man and biden getting the sympathy vote

this is no sure thing for trump by any means …

1.) biden wiped out ryan, so he used to be good at this

2.) trump is not a very disciplined speaker and the moderators will be all over trump

3.) even good debaters sometimes mess up

      – Until 10 days or so ago, I though Republicans had a good chance to hold onto the Senate. Now, I think it’s a 50/50 proposition at best.

If it does go to Democrats, the hope needs to be that the margin is small enough the chamber can be won back in 2022.

Convincing Sandoval to run in Nevada would be a great start. The pickup opportunities seem few and far between, though. But that’s 25 months off.

    29. Big Joe says:

Dave, I’d be careful about saying Dems are “poised to sweep” the Senate races in GA.

Keep in mind that GA is a run-off state, so voters would have to come out a second time. History shows that Dem voters simply can not be bothered to do that.

The biggest news is that Warnock does seem to be pulling away from Lieberman and into the top two. Prior to this week, it was Collins and Loeffler usually grabbing the top two slots.

      BJ

    30. Ron N says:

What’s the over and under on how many times Biden says “come on man” the bar is set at 5.

    31. Pitchaboy says:

This election has nothing to do with SLO Jo. It could become if he pees in his pants today. It is about DJT: who will turn up to vote for him and against him.

    32. Annie says:

      32. Also, listen for “I’m the guy who…” and “Period” from Biden. When Biden loses his train of thought, he starts to ramble a catch phrase.

    33. Annie says:

      15. I think that Biden’s camp have been trying to reset his biological clock for the past week, with the putting a lid on the daily campaign before noon. They hope evening will be like morning for Joe, who is probably being woken-up from sleep right now (hour before debate). Also, I’m sure Biden will get a jolt of some kind of energy drink or injection…but it seems to wear-off in about 20-30 minutes.

    34. Annie says:

I still think someone should check Biden’s ears! Or, have some kind of jamming device handy…

    35. Big Joe says:

Here’s my recap of what will happen tonight. I’m not watching but I think my recap will be pretty accurate 😀

Both candidates will likely do fine. The polls conducted by left-leaning outfits will show that Grampa Joe won the debate. Polls conducted by right-leaning outfits will show that the Prez won the debate.

Both candidates will say that they won the debate.

Election polls might sway a little bit for a few days then come back to how they are today. No meaningful change here and that’s to be expected.

After all, if your team goes into a big game and gets crushed, will you start rooting for the other team? Of course not. When my Yankees get destroyed by the Red Sox, I don’t turn into a Red Sox fan.

      WINNING
      =======
As far as winning, I guess it is possible for both to “win.” This of course is not your traditional debate with judges awarding points for good arguments and deducting points for ad hominems. Both candidates can meet their goals and say they won.

Biden: Appears to be ahead. He wants to do no harm, keep his lead while showing calmness and steadiness. Motivate the Dem base and sway the few undecideds.

Trump: Appears to be behind. Needs to do something to rattle Grampa Joe and show that he’s not ready for the top job. Needs to appeal outside his base,

Trump has the tougher job tonight, but again it doesn’t really matter. Voters have mostly already made up their minds. One good/bad night on stage will not change that, it never has.

In all seriousness, Biden has lost his fast ball, no one will dispute that. However, as I’m a casual observer, just reading random right-leaning news and from the posts here, I would almost expect to see a Weekend at Bernie’s type of character show up to debate.

All this talk about dimentia and senility have resulted in very low expectations.

As a consequence, Joe Biden has a low bar to clear tonight.

So The View skank Behar thinks putting Obama in the front row of debate would rattle Trump. Actually, really stoopid skank. Trump would use it as an opportunity to constantly refer to all the recent findings on Obama’s justice department and potential criminal activity. I think Obama would be the uncomfortable one squirming.

Trump should also sit Hunter Biden’s ex stripper girlfriend from AR in the front road with his bastard child and ask Joe if he wants to greet his grandson he never met before the debate starts.

I think if he shows any apparent decline tonight, that may give the moderates reservations.

Biden looks very pale. Trump looks orange.

    102. Wes says:

I’m calling it as I see it, Janz. Trump looks like Obama in the first debate with Romney to me.

    103. Bitterlaw says:

Wes and I often disagree. The fact that we both see Trump hurting himself by constant interruptions should be telling.

    104. Dump Trump says:

Mr. Biden is not delivering his answers well. It’s incredible that Mr. Trump keeps interrupting and insulting about crowds and Delaware State College.

    105. Wes says:

I’m not sure how looking orange makes Trump look young, Mikey.

    106. Hugh says:

    107. Dump Trump says:

When Mr. Biden laughs at Mr. Trump, it really resonates with the people.

Mr. Trump has really hurt himself and it’s his own fault.

    108. Wes says:

Trump is smartly attacking Biden on the Obama tax code.

    109. BennSue says:

Why does Biden keep saying “You folks at home….” I find it 1) too generic and 2) too repetitive. Like it’s his go-to to begin his point. He should really be mixing up his vocabulary/phraseology.

    110. Bitterlaw says:

Trump is not explaining his tax payment well.

    111. Janz says:

Ironically, Biden has all the big donors, Wall Street contributing to his campaign, while Trump has middle America, the working class giving him small amounts of money. Small business people are backing Trump.

    153. Dump Trump says:

Mr. Trump had a decent answer on law and order. It won’t be remembered though.

Wallace has tried to be a neutral moderator. He’s had to do more to control Mr. Trump. The Republicans will use that to say that Wallace is helping Biden.

    154. Wes says:

      This is appalling.

    155. Bitterlaw says:

Partisans will see what they want to see.

Trump has good answers but negates them by talking over Biden and arguing with Wallace.

Trump is a uber-jerk tonight, but everyone knew he was an uber-jerk. It’s Biden who climbed into the mudpit with Trump, and that was a big mistake for Biden. Biden was the “nice guy”, the prez who would bring civility back to politics. Voters who thought Uncle Joe was a decent person are going to have second thoughts about that particular part of Biden after tonight’s debate.

Trump didnt do it on purpose, but Trump pulled Biden into the mudhole with Trump. That’s a win for Trump.

As I expected, Trump fell into the Beau Biden trap by talking about Hunter. Biden’s response about Hunter as a son dealing with drugs will resonate (even though Hunter is a thief).

    243. Janz says:

Trump was too disruptive. But, his delivery had more substance.

Biden’s comments were infused with falsehoods that had been debunked long ago – Charletteville, bleach, racist, ballot irregularities, the Green Deal, which Biden’s VP co- sponsored, the tepid economy under Obama etc. Biden would be sheep in wolves clothing type of President, IMO.

    244. Annie says:

    245. Annie says:

Biden looked old, and his name-calling and goofy grins didn’t help. Biden at one point states, “I am the Democrat Party,” but then goes on to say that he can’t call Democrat governors to get violence in their states under control. Wallace was terrible.

    246. Dylan says:

250—when you get past the visceral horribleness of the debate——no one is making a decision based on the Hunter and Beau interchange This is an election about where the country is headed It may be not for Republican government

    247. Dump Trump says:

      “Trump was too disruptive”

That’s all that people will remember. Nothing else matters. Clear Win for Mr. Biden today.

    248. dblaikie says:

The bottom line is as usual Trump was Trump. He may be rude at times but he dominated both Biden and Wallace. Frankly I heard many of the same comments from the same posters in 2016.

But more than that Trump caught Biden in lots of lies. Even though at times he can be rough and crude with a skin about 4 inches thick, it is amazing to watch him dominate the room. Like four years ago all the talking heads are going to complain about Trump’s style but the truth is on substance he dominated.

    249. Bitterlaw says:

CG – You are a coward and a joke. You disappeared for months.

I hope you had an easy fast.

    250. Hugh says:

Sounds like trump was trump. No different than 2016. Did Biden seem statesman like or that he’d be tough on China?? Performing better than thought does not make you a winner nor does winning or losing a debate. Did Biden give you great confidence. Everyone know trumps a bully. He was in 2016 and won. Did Biden look old or ever confused. Not compared to expectations but just old and confused. If he did he lost. Sorry but he did.

    251. Tgca says:

So if both looked bad does that mean the voters they needed to reach really don’t have a valid reason to make a change if at least they know what they’re getting with Trump? An obnoxious thin-skinned dude who has delivered on many good things – no rational person believes Trump caused the economy to slump and thus far his predictions on it returning have turned out better than the doomsday the Dems predicted.

Should folks risk a returning economy or go in for a major change with an untested POTUS?

      Inquiring minds want to know.

…and yes, I watched the entire spectacle.

    252. Wes says:

Janz, Trump reminded me too much of Obama in the first debate with Romney tonight. Romney won not because of substance but because of how much a jerk Obama was.

Biden had less substance than Trump, but Trump negated that advantage by his overbearing demeanor.

Biden didn’t look good but DID look better than Trump had portrayed him.

For that reason, I have to be honest and say I think Biden won.

    253. CG says:

      Biden was terrible.

      Trump was terrible.

      Wallace was incompetent.

    256. mnw says:

      I only saw snippets.

I thought it might be something? When Biden refused to say whether or not he’d pack the court.

Was that the best his handlers could do? “I won’t answer because either way people will get upset.”

      Is that GOOD?

    257. Annie says:

Biden refused to answer several direct questions that he knew his leftwing wouldn’t want him to say anything against. Biden also outright lied in regard to his son Hunter…and several other topics, and he used Democrat talking points and smear terms that are not factual. Obviously, Biden was talking to his liberal base, not really America in general.

    258. phoenixrisen says:

There was no winner tonight. Trump crushes Biden on substance, Biden came out better slightly on optics and appearance.

    259. NYCmike says:

“Should folks risk a returning economy or go in for a major change with an untested POTUS?”

-Trump looked like Trump on that debate stage.

      Biden is a doddering fool.

Pence will have to be the savior again.

“CG” would prefer Kamala Harris take over instead.

    260. Bitterlaw says:

Then why come back to a “place like this?”

    261. Hugh says:

How much did Romney win by?

      A place like this?

    265. mnw says:

      Is “CG” the Canadian communist?

If NOT, gimme some point of reference for this troll, pls.

    266. Boog says:

The press will fixate on trumps response to the election question. But that is just them trying to drive the narrative.

The real issues that will linger from this debate will be Biden’s response to law and order, antifa, the green new deal and court packing. Over time, those answers will hurt him.

Biden campaign must be in trouble with their internals. Usually, by now, the dem is trying to tack to the center. But he is still trying to prop up his base.

    267. Wes says:

Nice way to take things out of context, Hugh. Obviously I was referring to the debate, which Romney won by all accounts. Ultimately Obama won the election–largely sharply improving in subsequent debates, having Candy Crowley run defense for him, and getting a bit of divine intervention in Sandy.

    268. Mister says:

President Trump won. Biden looked like a beta that was melting down. Wish Trump didn’t interrupt and let that happen. But it was a street brawl, which Trump wanted…no reason to vote for Biden, who clearly showed he hates law and order. Way too many naysayers here.

    269. NYCmike says:

When I see Van Jones talking about his children…..give me a break.

We got Trump because what came before him. The media and the Democratic Party have acted in concert the last 4 years to take him down, and he will not go quietly.

Do you want jobs? Or the mob?

    270. Dump Trump says:

Annie and Mister are here with the right wing talking points. This is a difficult night for them.

    271. Annie says:

This might sound weird, but at one point about 40 minutes into the debate, Biden’s eyes suddenly jolted open and he seemed to get a second wind. Wonder if his handlers put one of those skin patches on him that would give him timely energy jolts…

    272. MrVito says:

Sort of looking around the net. People remember Biden dominating Ryan in that debate… he was apparently a husk of himself in this one. I pointed out in the polling that people’s expectation was that Biden would win this debate… so I don’t think those saying Biden won because he wasn’t senile are necessarily right.

I see some media types disappointed Biden didn’t get his message out. I think they may have had canned lines they wanted to run with after the debate, but it sounds like Trump kept preventing those from sticking.

    273. CG says:

Anybody who says that either Trump or Biden was “good” substantively or stylistically is a hack.

    274. Wes says:

Ah. Naysayers are people who watched the debate and posted their personal thoughts on the occurrences onstage.

You have to love this place.

Sorry we have our own opinions and refuse to be mindless sheep.

    275. Tgca says:

      270

      It’s not spin. It’s a valid point.

If you all think they both looked bad, then what is the incentive for change if things are going in the right direction?

Will folks accept Trump for who he is as long as he keeps delivering or will they say after tonight I think Biden should be the guy I want as POTUS.

If you think neither won themselves any cheerleaders tonight, does that mean maybe people stay home and only the most ardent supporters vote?

    276. NYCmike says:

“If NOT, gimme some point of reference for this troll, pls.”

      -You are getting Biden-esque, mnw!!

“CG” is the most sanctimonious Illinois native to ever run his own blog, where he speaks to himself and a couple of other people here and there.

I predict he will say that Biden will win with 350 Electoral Votes this year.

    277. CG says:

What exactly did Trump mean though when he said to white supremacists, “stand down and stand by.”

I am sure that some will find an easy rationale for those words.

      Yes that’s definitely it!

    279. Wes says:

Tg, a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.

Spin by any other name is still spin.

    280. Mister says:

Wrong Wes. I watched too. I’m sure you said the same thing in 2016. Drop the loser mentality. President Trump is the ultimate winner, and he won again. Dont sound like a Lincoln Project loser.

    281. CG says:

In some ways, Biden did set the template for this by his behavior in the 2012 VP debate. I said at the time how disgraceful he was.

We as a country reap what we sow. Trump took Biden’s behavior in the debate and took it up to a 98.

    282. phoenixrisen says:

Hacks don’t make honest assessments CG. Sorry that assessment hurt your feelings

    283. Dump Trump says:

“What exactly did Trump mean though when he said to white supremacists, “stand down and stand by.””

I think his supporters know exactly what he means.

    284. Annie says:

      278. Dumpie…The debate was in the eyes of the beholder. It was not a “difficult” night. Biden obviously lied during the debate repeatedly – and looked really old. And, Wallace did a horrendous job.

    285. NYCmike says:

“Anybody who says that either Trump or Biden was “good” substantively or stylistically is a hack.”

-“CG” is here to tell us what can be said.

      Thank G-D!

    286. Greymarch says:

Many Biden voters want him to bring civility back to politics. Biden did exactly opposite tonight. We may see an increase in number of “undecided” voters after tonight. We may also see fewer people actually vote in Nov.

    287. NYCmike says:

” And, Wallace did a horrendous job.”

-I thought he did ok in a no-win situation.

    288. Janz says:

#260 Wes, you make rational points. And, for those who didn’t see how much that Biden said was untrue, I can see where he would be considered the “winner.”

However, his comment touting manufacturer jobs when he and Obama off-shored them, or asserting Trump killed 200,000 people because of COVID, when he mocked Trump for closing the borders and quarantining people returning from China had me yelling at the TV in dismay. Also, where were the questions on foreign policy? Only climate change and the Paris Peace Accord were profiled, not the ME Abraham Peace Accord.

      Ugh!

    289. Tgca says:

      287. Wes

If you want to speak of roses or any flowers, talk to Bitter, not me. I don’t do flowers.

    290. Wes says:

Well, if I’m just repeating what I said when Trump and Hillary debated in 2016, find the quote and post.

Otherwise you’re just a hack trying to dismiss opinions differing from yours.

    291. Annie says:

      291. Americans know exactly who is burning cities, rioting, harassing citizens in Democrat-run cities…and it isn’t those “white supremacists.”

    292. CG says:

I will post my Electoral College predictions right before the election. Hopefully, there will be some sort of “contest” here.

Be well and pray for America.

    293. Mister says:

The only mindless sheep Wes talks about are anti Trump losers, and anti American losers. The Democrats are now an anti American communist party. It’s vote for President Trump or support communists who will make this place Venezuela. And never be on the same side as Kristol, Schmidt, Charlie Sykes, Rick Wilson, Nicolle Wallace, and that crowd. Beta losers.

    294. MrVito says:

Actually, Grey, from what I saw tonight, I think a reduction in the number of likely voters is the most probable result of this train wreck.

    297. Mister says:

How much did the Biden campaign pay Chris Wallace to be Joe’s wingman tonight? Hope it was a lot for Wallace to be a sellout.

    298. Bitterlaw says:

Annie – Biden got a second wind because he realized Trump was blowing it by constantly interrupting. He could not believe his own non-answers would be ignored because Trump did him a favor like that.

If both did terribly, does it bring in more votes for them or leave only their supporters dedicated?

Will this keep some folks from voting? Do they say, “screw it.”

If the election was based solely on tonight, I think most hold their nose and vote for what they know, at least electoral college impact, especially with the economy rebounding.

    308. Mister says:

So sick of people whining about the debate. It’s a reflection of modern America. Neither side has anything in common, and this is how we argue with people we encounter from the other party. It’s like a conversation between neighbors today. Why? One side is communist that wants to subjugate us to China and tech losers. Got to verbally fight it hard….just like Trump did.

    316. Greymarch says:

Trump’s base is not large, but its probably the most rabid base in the history of modern politics. Trump certainly didnt hurt his base voters tonight.

The question is…did Biden suffer damage with his base tonight? I think it’s more likely Biden damaged his base tonight than Trump, but I am not sure yet.

Like I said, two more debates like tonight, and it will dramatically depress voter-turnout, which always favors republicans. Trump’s voters are showing up no matter what.

    323. CG says:

There will not be another debate. Unless the polls show a huge swing towards Trump, which I doubt, Biden has no reason to agree to another debate. All he has to do is point out Trump’s performance in this one. Whether you folks want to admit it or not, Biden is substantially ahead now.

I have never seen a snuff film, but I imagine that people who have decided that one was enough. This will be similar for the non-political junkie/ultra partisan type

Wes. I understood your point and my point was simple how did romney fare. I have always thought these debates are mostly a joke. i think winning them and losing them is a joke. what is not a joke is to whom do they matter and why. Trump was a bully and interrupted a lot and missed opportunities. that is what I am reading. okay, that is how he has been all along. it means nothing to anyone because it is totally consistent. Biden was better than an idiot and seemed reasonably coherent. Okay it may be a win in that he could have been an idiot. I actually expected that he would do pretty well given he has been working on this for weeks. However, did he seem like he would take on china, get more jobs and bring law and order? I think biden doing better than expected means nothing. just like romney doing well in the first debate meant nothing. I believe that there were two clear outcomes that could make a difference in this debate. Everything else is status quo. the first would be if biden is a drooling idiot. I did not expect it, but if he was he would be crushed as a result. BTW he only has to be a drooling idiot once in three debates to be finished. Second, was trump able to make it clear what he supports and what biden supports. does not matter if he said it well or poorly, but do they know where he and trump differ. because trumps positions are more in line with american opinions. On that I am not sure. Whether some think biden did better in the debate or trump did means little in 4 days.

One good thing, Biden can no longer make the argument about being more presidential after his constant name-calling tonight. It forced him into Trump’s arena. This is what happened to Rubio who later had to apologize for getting in the gutter and never got back up from that mistake.

Trump is a rough and rumble guy. Biden took the bait there. I think these comments could come back and haunt Biden.

Here is what a lot of you are missing.

What we’re calling the “decency” argument Joe Biden has been leading with has had some appeal. Clearly our polls show it.

Donald Trump is what he is. He doesn’t pretend. Tonight, Biden was not the “decent” guy he’s been pretending to be.

    364. Mister says:

Hey Dump Trump guy….dont you have a commie party meeting to cry at tonight after President Trump kicked your guy’s rear end in tonight. Or an Antifa party with the pink hair losers.

You are an idiot, Mister. I don’t vote til Election Day.

This is not 2016 though. Trump is the incumbent and we are dealing with what we are dealing with as a country now that we were not in 2016. Also, Biden, while not as good of a debater as even Hillary, is nowhere near as disliked.

And the people like me who will once again be stubborn and write someone in, are going to be *far* less.

      Two takeaways from tonight:

Trump: “I will open the economy and the vaccine is weeks away.”

Biden: “I will close down the country again and stop hurricanes with electric cars.”

    455. NYCmike says:

“Biden: “Antifa’s an idea, not an organization.”
Trump: “you gotta be kidding me.”

      Point: TRUMP

you were not one of those who just said trump lost all three debates — you did say you would not vote for him and had no chance to win — but …

it is unfair for people to say that you just hate trump and therefore say he lost

in 2016 you had the score 1.5 to 1.5

(i could post the actual comments but i already looked them up once tonight, so it seems unnecessary unless you have some desire to prove you did not say trump won one debate)

Direct quote from FBI Director Christopher Wray, who came highly recommended from his old boss Chris Christie.

Antifa sucks of course and anybody who shares that ideology and does anything illegal should be locked up . Same goes for the Proud Boys, who Trump told to “stand back and standby” and they are openly celebrating tonight what they consider an endorsement.

    461. Tina says:

Wrong Wray also said there was no voter fraud.

    467. NYCmike says:

“Direct quote from FBI Director Christopher Wray, who came highly recommended from his old boss Chris Christie.”

-After he wins re-election, I hope there are several new faces put in different positions across the government.

And I hope others stay, like Carson and Devos and Pompeo.

    473. CG says:

Trump should be honest then and say, “people who come to my rallies know what they are getting themselves into and are willing to risk it because they like me so much.”

It is just inaccurate to say that there has not been any issue after any of his rallies.

Herman Cain aside, he has no way of knowing that.

I think those wish washy Dems for Joe may be annoyed he didn’t whoop Trump so I bet now a good portion of them will be less energized for Biden as he gave them nothing to cheer for.

As my incredible on point analysis previously stated, I think Biden hurt himself tonight and destroyed his argument that he is the adult in the room and presidential with his repeated name-calling. He let Trump bait him.

Everyone knows how Trump is so they will have to decide if they want to be on the side of a re-emerging economy or go with the socialists.

Lastly, some of Biden’s responses will not play well with the radical left, especially pushing for law and order.

    550. SanDiegoCitizen says:

I felt Trump came across as a buffoon. His constant interruptions got old quickly.

The irony is that if he had allowed Biden to talk, Biden likely would have said something that would have shown that he was mentally not capable of being president. Instead, Trump in effect ran interference for Biden; he should have let Biden talk, and show his questionable mental condition.

If Trump was trying to intimidate Biden; he clearly failed — Biden is an experienced politican, and Trump did not fluster him.
As Napoleon said: It was worse than a defeat, it was a blunder.

The hits on Hunter Biden were effectively, and hopefully will become a campaign issue.

    552. Pitchaboy says:

DJT understands optics better than most. The average guy on the street wants their Prez to kick arse in the Middle East. SLO Jo came off as an irritated oldie. Trump relished his role as a bully.

    553. jaichind says:

The betting markets and stock market clearly think Trump lost ground in the debate. Stock market Futures prices which were up on good PRC economic numbers started to drop quickly right after 10:30. It seems it was not really that Trump did “badly” at the debate but there was an expectation of some sort of massive Biden implosion or gaffe which did not take place. This is why stock market futures were up until until 10:30PM despite Trumps antics but fell once the debate ended since the Biden implosion never came.

Still as of right now the market, even with the overnight fall, is still up 1%-2% from 7/31. The general metric is that a stock market increase 7/31-10/31 in an election year is good for the ruling party and a fall is good for the opposition party. Trump is still slightly favored using this metric.

    554. dblaikie says:

To me that would really look bad if, your a person especially a woman who doesn’t feel safe because of the riots and Law Enforcement is against you. Next Biden denied Antifa was a protest group. I think everyone knows who they are. Biden denied he supports the Green New Deal. First, it’s on his website as being part of his crucial framework. Second, I’m sure the progressives are not to happy to hear him say that. Biden talked about keeping the lockdown. I’m sure small business owners aren’t too happy to hear about that. Trump hurt Biden with African American by reminding them Biden wrote the crime bill that put thousands of them in prison and Biden called them super predators. I could go on but, I think I made my point. I wish Trump would of talked about ending the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and bringing the soldiers home. Also, destroying ISIS and his 3 Nobel peace prize nominations. At the end of the day though debates really don’t matter. Hillary won all 3 debates and still loss.

Watching the clips this morning again, it is obvious that Trump got the better of Biden. That’s why the left is harping on the “Proud Boys” nonsense. Look at the exchanges on law & order and reopening the country. Trump dominated there. I find it amusing watching the pundits with their vapors about Trump’s behavior. They believe history started with Trump. Did they forget how Biden treated Ryan in their debate? In 2012, Biden’s behavior was lauded by these same Beltway pundits as showing Ryan who was boss. Give me a break.

FWIW I did not watch the debate live. I taped it.At 3:30 I woke up, couldn’t get back to sleep, and played the tape in another room after spending 20 minutes reading the ” diverse” comments here.
A Romney or Ryan would clearly lose as Biden was programmed to shamelessly lie in the expectation he could get away be with it.
Trump must have watched the Biden/ Ryan tape and was going to have none of it and planned to be on the offense, not defence. Substantively,he got Biden on his heels on Virtually every subject. To do so he did look ” un Presidential” in classic terms.
For hard leftists who hate Trump they hate him more, although Biden’s retreat on core issues probably didn’t warm their hearts. For the country club and soccer mom set they’re probably even more in the anti Trump camp.I think Trump has written them off.
For minority voters who argue around their kitchen table, and working class whites, who like strength in a leader Trump probably strengthened himself. For shy Trump whites they will be even more shy with pollsters.
Bottom line is I think there is a transformation of the parties going on in a bitterly divided country. How that translates on this November 3 is a mystery yet to be solved . I need this election over so I can sleep better.

    560. OHIO Joe says:

Well said Gordon. Overall, it was not a good debate and there was no knock-out punch. However, Mr. Biden lost on points and Mr. Trump won indirectly, simply by keeping his electoral college coalition together. Mr. Biden could not answer simple questions on the Supreme court even the economy and he got so flustered that he mixed up his two sons, Hunter and Beau. He even though that ATIFA was an idea rather than an terrorist organization. Is President Trump going to win Virginia, Colorado and New Jersey because of the debate? No. However, Mr. Biden failed to get many Undecided voters in Ohio, Iowa, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina and Arizona. If anything, Mr. Biden may have lost a few votes in some of those states. The bottom line is that PA, MI, WI and maybe NE 2 and MN will still decide the election and Mr. Biden needs almost all of them to have a chance. The fact that Mr. Biden failed to shift the electoral landscape in a significant manner was a loser.

If Trump’s goal was to drive-up Biden’s negatives, do you believe he did?

    567. hugh says:

So here is what i said yesterday.

“Truth is no matter how trump performs all he has to do is show the contrasts between him and Biden. If he does great and Biden is a drooling idiot better yet.”

I hoped for Joe the drooling fool to show up, but did not expect it. I did not expect trump to be anything but trump. Sounds like that is what happened. what is the takeaway? I generally think debates matter little and who wins them matters less. I can think of one debate that had a huge lasting difference when ford made his comment about poland being free. There have been a few great lines, but did they impact the final result. Reagan performed poorly in his debates for his second term. How did that turn out?

In this environment where the press lies for joe day and night this debate was more important to trump than biden (assuming biden did not go full idiot). I saw little upside for Joe. He has to defend indefensible positions he has been taking.

Trump had to get biden to take stands on those indefensible positions to peel off the most radical deadenders. HE accomplished that. Someone above said a few will sit home. Well a few as a % is all you need. Remember deadenders (bernie bros) didnt see a big difference between trump and hrc. Except they probably like trumps abrasive style. Trump accomplished this goal (yes he could have done it more eloquently, but that is not our boy) that as Biden walked back his most radical positions, btw positions every dem candidate backed in the primary.

Next trump had to draw impressions on positions between he and biden. Law and order is a big one as is the economy. Sounds like he did that particularly on law and order.

He had to have biden show himself to be old. a step slow compared to trump. As political junkies we are used to watching joe and if he does better than his worst we think that pretty good. Lots of people watching are quite apolitical, they know all about trump. Nothing new there, trump is trump. he was an abrasive jerk in 16 is the same now. However, now they know Joe is old and at his best seems doddering. Sure he held himself together for 90 minutes. Did fine many will say he won, but what did he win? Now he has to go right back to his basement to rest up for the next one.

Last he had to show the corruption under Joes watch. Dems wont believe it and republicans know it, but it may cause some independents to check it out.

All in all I am satisfied. And frank luntz’s group speaks volumes. I think many will sit home disgusted. Does that help the candidate with the enthusiasm or the one without?

      – This is so idiotic and Jason fraud knows it. No one has opposed lockdowns more in this forum than I have.

And while Jason fraud can sit there with his dunce cap on and say corona doesn’t matter anymore, that’s not the case.

Trump and Biden had a very important exchange about corona in the debate. Biden refused to say whether or not he would call for another lockdown.

In fact. Biden attacked Trump for opening business across the country while corona is still spreading.

It’s clear Biden wants to impose some national mandates and closures once he’s in office. So while many here want corona to be over, it’s clearly not over for Biden and Pandemic Overlord Fauci will be there to egg him on.

Biden refused to say he would not shut down the country again and Trump should hammer that point over and over again until election day. He should say he will keep the country open and Biden/Fauci will shut the country down again.

He claims he has been against lockdowns since April.

However, since April, he has been here daily to post whatever alarmist, dishonest, agenda driven MSM narrative that he could pick up at CNN or MSNBC. Every day a new surge!

And we all know what the MSM agenda is: more lockdowns so it will damage the economy and consequently damage Trump.

So if you favor the MSM agenda, you ARE enabling lockdowns, because governors rely on public support for their policies.

So whining about losing your job after months of regurgitating the agenda that promotes lockdowns and reduces air travel is the reason I say karma is a b-tch. And why I think those here professing to be sorry he is getting furloughed are being suckered.

Robbie is finding out the hard way you can’t have it both ways.

    608. dblaikie says:

Should be a blowout number for the jobs report. That will be the first shoe. The second is that 3rd quarter GDP is going to huge. The third is that a vaccine will come through. Those three shoes will undercut everything that Biden bumbles about.

Trump didn’t open any businesses “while the corona is still spreading”.

      – Haley/DeSantis 2024.

Also, we need to look at the 2022 Senate map. There will be quite a few Republicans who might retire. Shelby, Grassley, Scott, Burr, Johnson and Murkowski could retire. In addition, Toomey has made waves about running for governor.

The pickup opportunities will be few and far between. Nevada, New Hampshire, and Colorado will be on the list. Convincing Sandoval to run would be huge. Ayotte or Sunnunu would be great in NH. Gardner might be able to run again in two years.

The one long shot is Vermont. If Leahy retires, the very popular moderate Republican governor Phil Scott could run.

If we lose the Senate, the task is to keep the margin as small as possible. That would make reclaiming the chamber a lot easier, but right now the playing field looks small.

Yeah, but did any poll show him winning them in 2016?

I am not concerned about a -2 in MI anymore than I would be excited about a +2.

I still think Trump’s best chance of the three is PA. He needs to narrow the gap somewhat in the suburbs if the polls are right, but PA is going to be very close.

    620. Robbie says:

      Jason doesn’t understand politics.

The party that controls the White House suffers in midterm elections (exception being 2002). In 2018, Democrats won back the House. In 2010, Republicans had a super wave. In 1994, Republicans had a huge wave. In 1982, Dem gained in the House.

If Biden wins, he will have to deal with the fallout from an economy wrecked by coronavirus and he will have to deal with the anger voters feel over corona restrictions that will almost certainly still remain in 2022. That will produce a toxic stew for him and the Democrats.

Governors like Wolf, Whitmer, Prtizker, and Newsom will still have major restrictions on life in their states. There will be huge backlash just on that alone. The pandemic pushback could be as strong as the Tea Party was in 2009 and 2010.

Democrats will be on their heels. They will have to own the fallout. Republicans will be able to criticize the way Democrats have since March.

    621. Waingro says:

My hottest take is that Hispanics liked this debate because this is how we engage each other politically all the time, it isn’t uncivil, it’s just passionate. The pearl-clutching about how “presidents aren’t supposed to act like THOSE people” doesn’t sit well with me.

Trump’s message over the last five weeks should be quite easy to make.

It’s really that simple. Corona is the economy. To ignore it is a mistake and Trump needs to hit Biden as the lockdown president.

      – Outside if 1998 where Democrats broke even in the Senate, the sixth year of a presidency has been a catastrophe for the president’s party.

I’m not sure why political history has been forgotten in the Trump era. It worked in 2018.

      – I can’t speak to NC, but if Trump can overcome Access Hollywood, then he can overcome a horrendous debate performance.

That said, Biden isn’t Hillary and we now have four years of Trump as president whereas in 2016 we only had the possibility of what a Trump presidency might be like.

Re Rasmussen. Even with the horrendous Sunday sample, Trump’s approval by numbers have been 52,52,46,47,46 or a 48.3 average approval. Even when his approval averaged 51.5 last week( 3 points better) he was at 47 in the head to head.
Running ,4-5 points lower consistently than your approval rate as against an invisible candidate is unheard of. The debate played no factor in the number, which is worse.
It’s worse because the real world narrative is improvement in Covd, the economy, and world affairs( Three Nobel Peace prize nominations)
I know someone opined that black approval doesn’t mean they will go out and vote for him, which is true, but irrelevant. We’re talking about POLLS; telling Rasmussen you approve of his job performance, then in the next breath saying your voting against him. I wish someone could ask Barris about this gross discrepancy for job approval and voting for an incumbent. I never recall anything like this.

Changes in voting ID laws, universal mail in voting, same day registration, illegals voting, and the general stifling of dissent on social media makes any “comeback” very unlikely in 2022 or 2024.

Regarding PA, the polls I have seen show a significant drop for Trump in the suburbs and a gain in the rural areas.

The question is are the polls showing Trump that far behind in the Philly suburbs with white women actually accurate. If they are, he is trouble no doubt. I think he needs PA to win. Part of this is basic Capitalism because they want to deliver what their customers, who pay them, want for their narrative. But more than that unlike the past, even when the pollster, is trying to be accurate they have lost their sense of who actually votes. That is the foundation of accurate polling and if you can’t forecast this than your poll is garbage in and garbage out.

“Jason says Republicans hold the Senate in 2022 ONLY if Trump wins this year. That’s the exact opposite of true, but it makes for a good talking point, I suppose.”

      -Agree with jason on this.

      – If Trump wins in 2020, Republicans will almost certainly be routed in 2022. The sixth year of a presidency is misery for the president’s party. It was in 2014, 2006, 1986, 1974, and 1958. The exception was 1998, but even then Democrats just broke even.

Republicans could see quite a few retirements in 2022 (AL, IA, AK to name a few) and several seats currently held are in states that trend Democrat like Toomey in PA. If Trump’s still president, holding all of those seats in the sixth year or what would still be a very polarizing presidency would be extremely diffcult.

Trump did not reset the political rules in 2016. 2018 showed that.

So Robbie, what did you think of Biden’s performance?

      – If Trump hadn’t stepped all over Biden’s responses, the nation would have seen that Biden struggles to maintain a cogent line of reasoning. Trump’s bull in a china shop routine saved Biden from being seen as senile.

You have to love this new Quinnipiac Poll of South Carolina. Where do I begin?
In 2016, the Exit Polls showed an electorate of R+18. This poll shows a PID of R+7.

So you know where we go:
      1) Only 5% of Republicans crossover to the Democrats
      2) Zero Democrats cross over to the Republicans, just like yesterday’s GA poll.
      3) Indies go wild for the Democrats

RESULT: Trump +1 and Graham Tied

      WHAT AN F’EM Joke!!!

So it’s no surprise he is regurgitating that here.

So two candidates show up for a debate for President of the United States.

      One is senile.

But what is important to Robbie is that somehow the other was “horrendous”.

You can’t make this sh-t up.

      – I’m not the least bit concerned with what RedState or the Federalist or whatever other conservative site had to say about Trump’s performance.

I watched with my own eyes what took place and it was a terribly bad performance for Trump. And now today, multiple Republican Senators have come forward to criticize Trump for not forcefully condemning white supremacists. That includes Mitch McConnell.

If he had barely won or won big, Republican Senators would not feel the need to distance themselves from his comments last night.

    723. jason says:

We have seen this all through the Trump presidency.

While the President successfully revived the economy, cut regulations, cut taxes, attained energy independence, and brought record employment numbers to blacks and Hispanics, in addition to appointing many conservative judges to the federal bench and 3 conservatives to SCOTUS, Robbie was here talking about Comey, Mueller, Avenatti, Cohen, Ukraine and all kinds of other fake and imaginary “scandals”.

Now the 800lb gorilla in the room, when even he admits Biden is senile, doesn’t matter either.

      Geezus.

      – No. What matters is once again Trump’s own behavior obscured his opponent’s senility. No one is talking about Biden’s mental capacity. People are discussing Trump’s behavior at the debate.

One of these days, you’re going to learn that Trump has always been his own worst enemy because he is incapable of not crapping all over himself.

    725. jason says:

I’m not the least bit concerned with what RedState or the Federalist or whatever other conservative site had to say about Trump’s performance.”

      Of course not.

All you state here are far left talking points.

And btw, Trump DID condemn white supremacy, he said I will certainly agree to to that, as he has many times before.

Trump, Aug. 14, 2017: Racism is evil. And those who cause violence in its name are criminals and thugs, including the KKK, neo-Nazis, white supremacists, and other hate groups that are repugnant to everything we hold dear as Americans.

Trump, Aug. 15, 2017: I’m not talking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists, because they should be condemned totally.

The R senators are weaklings that succumb to MSM pressure. Even McConnell should know better.

    726. jason says:

No one is talking about Biden’s mental capacity. People are discussing Trump’s behavior at the debate.”

      And why is that?

Is it because the MSM is partisan, biased, dishonest and agenda driven?

If Trump showed signs of senility, wouldn’t “everyone be talking about it”.

Remember when you were all over some fake psychologist who diagnosed Trump from a distance, and you were here agreeing that he was mentally unbalanced?

She lasted even less than your model for America, Michael Avenatti.

But contrary to you, I understand there are much bigger fish to fry than “Trump is his own worse enemy”.

    729. Robbie says:

Jason just assumes because he doesn’t think something should be an issue, it’s not an issue. Sorry, but that’s not ho wit works.

Marshall is not popular with large swaths of the right, which probably makes up 40-42% of Kansas, then you have another 30-35% which are moderates, and the leftovers are democrats. None of my friends or family voted for Marshall. But all but a close friend will hold their nose and vote for him in the General Election as anything is better than Bollier. My friend will probably write someone in. Not that KS is important nationally but I feel I have a good read of the state.
