    2. Stonewall DW says:

Wes, agreed, and I don’t see any way Trump loses Florida. Not with the Latino polling numbers being strong for Trump along with the surge in GOP registrations reducing the gap to a scant 134k, along with Covid dropping in importance to voters and possible vaccine forthcoming.

      24. Getting pretty fed-up with the liberal spin that Trump caused “200,000 covid deaths.” No, a novel virus caused those deaths. Unquestionably, Trump prevented the deaths of hundreds of thousands more people by closing travel from China in January, while putting in place a covid task force at that time. He warned of covid in the State of the Union, and as soon as the CDC’s tests and Chinese PPE was found inadequate, Trump teamed with private industry to produce new tests, ventilators, PPE, and medical equipment on a scale not done since WWII. Operation Warp Speed has led to the amazingly quick development of vaccines and new therapeutics. Everything Biden, who called travel bans xenophobic, states he would do…Trump did months ago. Biden would require a national mask mandate and more shutdowns, just as the economy is rebounding. By your way of thinking, Biden should be held responsible for the hundreds of thousands of people who died in the wars Obama perpetuated (and started), the mishandled swine flu pandemic, and the 307,000 dead American veterans who died as a result of the Obama-Biden administration’s mismanagement of the VA hospital system. Cuomo’s policy of sending covid patients into nursing homes, when Trump gave him field hospitals and a hospital ship was tantamount to a death sentence to many elderly people.

NYMag: “NBC’s Trump event, meanwhile, aired mostly on tape delay out West, but the Peacock network also simulcast Trump’s town hall on MSNBC and CNBC. The early data doesn’t account for those viewers, so Trump’s 10.4 million should go up, perhaps by a lot. Biden’s own NBC town hall last week added almost 3 million viewers from cable, and that was off a much smaller base (about 4 million watched on the broadcast network).“

“It’s no wonder the Russian disinformation campaign selected Mr. Guiliani to carry out their campaign against Mr. Biden.”

Disinformation?? The corruption of the extended Biden family, especially through the selling of influence, has been a well-known, well-documented fact for decades. Good grief! Biden is even on video bragging how he threatened the Ukrainian government to fire the prosecutor investigating Burisma – or else no promised billion dollars. The influence-peddling doesn’t stop with Hunter and his dirty deals in Ukraine, China, and Russia, but encompasses Biden family members including James Biden with an Iraq deal, and the son-in-law’s deals in the Caribbean.
You, sir, support a person who has sold out our country for profit for a good chunk of his political career. The “Hunter emails” is simply another proof, among many, of what the Bidens have been doing – and shows how Joe Biden not only knew, but participated in the crimes.

Pfizer vaccine not ready until mid November?

      – This is really disappointing because the FDA actively chose to delay any approval until after the election. Their decision wasn’t based on science. It was based on political calculus. They didn’t want to be seen giving Trump a boost just before election day.

The net effect of the FDA’s last minute rule changes is more people who otherwise wouldn’t die will die because vaccination was delayed.

      – I never read the GoT books so my whole understanding of the story was the show. How Daenerys was portrayed in the books was apparently different than on the show. That’s why I hated her ending. Season 8 did not follow what happened in seasons 1 through 7, at least in my opinion.

One of the things I have been pointing out is the bad polling from 2016 against actual results. Some suggest that maybe pollsters have corrected their problems, but that’s clearly not the case. Look at Democrat primary polling where they are just as bad.

      Consider these clunkers:

Monmouth had Biden +2 and Suffolk had Biden +6.
David Binder (D) had Buttigieg +2.
      Three others had Sanders +7

In the end it was Sanders +3.4.

Buttigieg was second, and Biden a distant fourth.

Suffolk and UMass-Lowell were Sanders +8, Emerson, Univ of NH were both Sanders +7

Turned out to be Sanders + 1.3. They were way off the margin.

The polling from November through January all had Biden ahead.

Then right at the end Data for progress went Sanders +19 and Emerson Sanders +13, and they were glad they did because the final was Sanders +16.4.

Change Research had a tie between Biden and Sanders.
These all had it between Biden +2 and Biden +5: Post and Courier, YouGOv, Marist, UMass-Lowell, and Winthrop.

East Carolina U had it Biden +8 and Data for Progress was Biden +9

      Emerson was Biden +16
      Monmouth was Biden +20
And the winner was Trafalgar Group, Biden +21

Because the final result was Biden +28.5

CALIFORNIA had a few polling winners, but most over estimated Sanders.

Emerson, YouGov, Marist, CNN, Univ of Houston, Dallas morning news and Texas Tribune all had Sanders winning between 2 and 15 points.

      Biden won by 4.5.

I could go on, but the point is clear. Polling is broken.

“Compared with the numbers at Obama’s rallies, Romney’s events are still generally smaller: Obama’s rally at Ohio State University earlier this week, for example, attracted 15,000 people, and an event at the University of Wisconsin last week drew, per university officials, about 30,000.”

    321. jaichind says:

I live in a high income suburb in the Greater NYC area. This area has been trending Dem for several cycles now and voted 2 to 1 Clinton back in 2016. Both in 2012 and 2016 there were no yard signs for either candidate although there are some yard signs for local races. All my neighbors/friends in 2016 were Obama-Clinton, Romney-Clinton, or McCain-Obama-Clinton voters in group environment although I can tell some of them were hidden Trump voters.

This time around there are a bunch of yard signs mostly going for Trump 2 to 1. There are also a lot of local election signs which heavy lean toward GOP local candidates often with the USA flag which one can read as the hidden Trump vote.

What I can get from this is: The enthusiasm gap for Trump is real. But also that there are a lot more signs also means turnout will rise relative to 2016 which would still be a net plus for the Dems here.

If this replicated in the wealthy suburbs outside Philly then Trump will need to make up this loss (due to higher turnout of Dem vote) in the rest of PA in the form of higher Trump enthusiasm which is clearly real.

    322. Todd McCain says:

Target Smart Data has almost in unison itched towards the GOP in every state.

    323. Tina says:

Yup Todd, The Cotto Twitter feed mentioned it.

    324. Pitchaboy says:

Jai, you are unrelenting in your approach. You find a good thing for Trump but somehow find a way to see a cloud in that silver lining. Democrats will do better this time in the suburbs as that vote is driven by hatred of Trump among educated young snobs. This will be balanced out by DJT getting more AA share and a depressed AA turnout. They do not hate him and do not care about SLO Jo. This is why Obama has been unleashed.

    325. jaichind says:

I am looking over the targetsmart data. Various mainstream sources say that VBM numbers show that there will be a turnout surge (which is the only way these pro-Biden polls could end up being true.) But I do not see it. As a ratio of the VBM and early vote it seems new voters are a lot smaller percentage of the number than 2016. So most of this surge in VBM and early vote seems like cannibalization of the election day vote.

    326. jaichind says:

      339. Well, I think we are saying the same thing. That Trump will lose some ground in the upscale suburbs but most likely make it up elsewhere. My point is he better make it up elsewhere to have a chance in PA.

    327. PhilS says:

      Obama has been unleashed?

He is planned to make his first appearance for Biden in Philadelphia on Oct 21. Nobody knows what that means. Rally? I thought Biden doesn’t do rallies. Speech?

Didn’t Obama/Michelle also “unleash” for Hillary in Philadelphia in 2016, in widely reported final push? Didn’t help much, as I recall.

Obama, besides being lazy, doesn’t want much to do with this pedophile loser.

Just because fawning media headlines say “unleash” doesn’t mean much.

    328. PhilS says:

And going beyond Obama, any campaign that depends on someone else’s charisma to pull it through will lose.

      Charisma is not transferable.

    329. jaichind says:

RCP betting odds average has already shifted back to around early Oct levels so the impact of Trump getting COVID-19 has been wiped out. Now it is about wiping out the impact of the first debate which I think it is more about Biden not having a complete meltdown.

    330. PhilS says:

And lastly on this topic, the only announced event for Obama is the Philly event on Wed.

There is nothing else planned. I will be very surprised if Obama,a will do any barnstorming for Biden. Heck, even Biden doesn’t do any barnstorming for Biden, why would anyone else.

Obama is only doing this one thing so he doesn’t get any whispered blame after the sad pedophile loses.

    331. Gordon Allen says:

If Obama is in fact being sent to PA that’s really good evidence that Biden is worried. By the way while President Obama showed zero coattails in elections without him on the ballot; if anything negative results.

    332. jaichind says:

I agree that if Obama is going to PA then the Biden camp is concerned about Black enthusiasm in Philly. The same thing took place in 2016 and in the end the Dems did get the turnout they needed in Philly. It just was they were swamped by a massive Trump rural turnout.

    333. Bitterlaw says:

In the Philadelphia suburbs, many upscale voters are willing to vote against their own interests to get rid of Trump for one simple reason – they are wealthy enough to not care. Nobody likes paying taxes but they can afford it if it means getting rid of Trump.

    334. PhilS says:

That’s not any different from most recent elections. Trump lost the Philly suburbs by a greater margin than Bush, Dole, McCain, and Romney.

Yet he won PA unlike those losers.

    335. PhilS says:

Here’s Biden campaign in its own words:

“Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden’s campaign manager warned against trusting inflated national polling numbers released this week, which showed Biden in a double-digit lead over incumbent candidate President Trump.

“Please take the fact that we are not ahead by double digits,” Jen O’Malley said Friday, according to a New York Times reporter. “Those are inflated national public polling numbers.”

Anyone relying on public polls as indicator of race status is a fool.

    336. SoHope says:

Maybe I’m letting the fact that I couldn’t vote for Trump in 2016 but have decided to vote for him now blind me but I’m having a hard time believing all these suburban 2016 Trump voters turn Biden are actually real.

    337. PhilS says:

Keep in mind that PA has had a net voter registration change of 200,000 in favor of GOP since 2016.

That is real data, unlike fake polls.

    338. Smack says:

Voting in Florida yesterday did not go good for Democrats. They only gained 15-16 thousand votes and if this is the trend for last 2 weeks before election Biden will not get what he needs in early voting in the Sunshine State to defeat President Trump in Florida.

    339. Bitterlaw says:

I don’t know who will win PA. I don’t know if the rural and exurbs counties can increase their numbers from 2016. I hope they can but I will defer to the other PA posters who live in those areas.

    340. PhilS says:

“Anyone relying on public polls as indicator of race status is a fool.”

And I meant to add, this goes for both sides.

    341. Bitterlaw says:

SoHope- I don’t know any 2016 Trump voters who will vote for Biden. I do know voters who sat out 2016 who will vote for Biden.

    343. PhilS says:

Just to keep PA 2016 in mind.

      1) Trump lost Philly suburbs (22%) by 42-55, and Philly city (12%) by 15-83 He won Northeast (16%) 55-42, Central (22%, same size as Philly suburbs) 62-34, and West (28%) 54-42. The bulk of registration change from 2016 has been in non-Philly areas.

      2) Overall, Trump lost urban areas (27%) 26-70, and won suburban areas (53%) 52-44 and rural areas (19%) 71-26. Philly suburbs are not the only suburbs in PA. The other PA suburbs swamped Philly suburbs in 2016

    344. Chicon says:

Bitter, you also know voters who (effectively) sat out 2016 and will vote for Trump in November.

    345. Wes says:

Can you go with him, Bunu?

    346. Hugh says:

In Florida for in person EV many red counties will not open on the 19th. So don’t be disappointed in the first week results

    347. SoHope says:

I know a lot of ben shapiro types that sat out 2016 that are now nominally Trumpish. Its easy to write in or vote libertarian if there was a zero change trump would win.

    348. Messy says:

      2012 all over again…ahhh1

    349. PhilS says:

And to point out further, among PA suburbs, Philly suburbs were 22% of total votes (Trump -13%), overall suburbs were 53% of total (Trump +8%), therefore Trump crushed Hillary in non-Philly PA suburbs (Trump +23%), (which were 31% of overall votes).

So, if there is negligible loss of voters who voted for Trump in 2016, and there is 2-3% increase in net GOP registrations, there would have to be massively increased Dem turnout for Biden to win. Lower enthusiasm and lack of ground game would argue against that, but who knows.

    350. DW says:

Polling of PA does not show slippage for Trump in the philly suburbs

    351. PhilS says:

It’s 2012 all over again all right, with Trump in the role of Obama. It’ll be the same result.

    352. Scooterboy says:

If this data is correct, Trump is killing it in Arizona and it doesn’t appear that Trump is losing the suburban women vote as badly as everyone is predicting.

Baris- “ In Maricopa County, the voter file is now nearly R+5. Our raw collection from tonight is 71% female, D+1 and still Trump and Biden are dead even at 48.4%.

I’ll leave you to figure out what that means.”

    353. jaichind says:

I think the best way to compare RCP averages between now and 2016 is to do a non-USC RCP average comparison between 2016 and 2020 since USC completely revamped their methodology. Doing so I think Trump is only running about 1% behind his 2016 gap for mid Oct.

    354. SoHope says:

The question is is this 2008 or 2016?
Polls are showing crazy huge Dem turnout ala Obama in 2008.

So is Biden Obama or Hillary?

    359. Gordon Allen says:

What does everyone think of the margin favoring Trump head head on viewership? It looks like 65/35 w 7,000,000″ voting”? I would think most people would watch their desired candidate,or one they were learning towards. That’s a pretty large polling sample ( and I know not ” scientific”)

    360. mnw says:

Robbie – I disagree. If Trump wins, there will be no new lockdowns. Dem Governors and Mayors need to open up fully so businesses can be taxed. If Biden wins, the media will give him credit for curing COVID and stop reporting cases.

      – I’m not saying they’ll be widespread, but I think it’s growing more and more likely Democrats run states will implement them in some way. They shouldn’t, but they will.

You can already hear the murmurs on Twitter as press members pass around charts of daily cases and tweet “My God”. As soon as the election is over, watch for anchors and hosts on CNN and MSNBC to start to wonder whether new lockdowns are needed.

Right now, I think Biden’s going to win and he’s going to want to establish that “he means business” on corona. So I expect he and Pandemic Overlord Fauci are going to call for something akin to the ridiculous nonsense we’re seeing in Great Britain, talk of a “circuit breaker” shutdown.

Obviously, Republican states, if Biden and Viceroy Fauci call for a shutdown, won’t go along with him, but Democrats states will. The net result will be a stock market decline, a crippling of airlines and hotels, and a big hit to the economy.

Anyone who doesn’t think Pandemic Overlord Fauci isn’t angling for another shutdown hasn’t been paying attention to his actions over the last seven months.

I’ve always been both intrigued and baffled by the incubation period of this version of corona. We have been told it can be up to 14 days. This apparently came from officials in China, but how many other upper respiratory illnesses have that kind of lengthy incubation period?

I was always under the impression colds and flus generally had a 2 to 4 day incubation period. In 2018, I picked up my parents from the airport on a Saturday evening after they had been on a cruise. By Sunday afternoon, my Dad had come down with the flu. About 48 hours later, I had the flu. Thankfully, neither of us had a serious case.

Given the amount of community spread that existed in Wuhan and now here in the US, can a 14 day incubation period really be trusted? I assume this 14 day metric came from contract tracing, but is that even worth it with an airborne illness?

They are really being hit…..and the masks aren’t doing much If you take a look at yesterday’s numbers in Spain, UK, France, Switzerland, Belgium, Italy and now really taking off in Eastern Europe as well. Russia getting rocked. All these numbers dwarfing what they faced during ther peak in late spring.

    386. Gordon Allen says:

      Biden is a pathological liar…

“During the event, ABC host George Stephanopoulos asked about Biden’s stance on fracking which has varied all over the place, depending on who’s asking/the audience. Stephanopoulos said that Biden’s last stated position, that he doesn’t want to ban fracking, was questioned by the Boilermakers Local 154 member Sean Stefee because it was inconsistent with Biden’s stated goal of ending the use of fossil fuels.

That challenged Joe. Challenged Joe tends to either get very angry and/or lie his head off.

“The boilermakers overwhelmingly endorse me, okay?” Biden claimed. “So the Boilermakers Union has endorsed me because I sat down with them, went into great detail with leadership, exactly what I would do, number one.”

Except that wasn’t true. At all.

The International Boilermakers Union, however, made it clear on its website that it has not endorsed anyone. The Local 154 endorsed President Trump in a September message from business leader John Hughes.

“It is with great honor that I write this letter to endorse your campaign as you run for re-election of the President of the United States,” Hughes said. “I am happy to support your administration as you have proven to be a true friend of the Boilermakers, and I wish you the best of luck in your campaign.”

In TargetSmart data, I see 2.7 million non-college whites who are first time/infrequent voters (26% of them).

      1.2 million college whites
      450K Black
      500K Latino

    529. phoenixrisen says:

Jeff, things are looking very promising in Michigan seeing the registrations in the key bellweather counties of Kent, Oakland, Marquette, Oakland, And Macomb. Rural Michigan in the Upper and Lower Peninsula will go heavy red. Ottawa will be heavy red as usual.

    530. Chicon says:

TargetSmart is moving outside the Circle of Trust. Not at University of Washington level, but trending the wrong way.

    531. Steant1965 says:

Just playing around with NC and it looks like R’s are outvoting D’s in first-time voter and infrequent voter. That can’t be good for D’s. I would think they need to outpace the R’s in that department to be really competitive. Fingers crossed.

    532. MrVito says:

So, right now in MI, if they didn’t mess up the upload, non-college whites are R+4 and college whites are R+6…

    533. John says:

      Trump by a landslide.
      Perhaps their biggest landslide ever.

    534. MrVito says:

They have non college whites more Dem than college whites in Macomb and Oakland.

    535. Chicon says:

Vito, they also show that there’s more vote from the cities and burbs than 2016. Suggests that the rural vote has plenty of room for a big show on 11/3. If the data is trustworthy.

    536. Chicon says:

      From People’s Pundit Twitter

Voter in Janesville: “He [Trump] is the last guy I’d vote for. This time, I’d crawl across 20 miles of broken glass to vote for him.”

I think this is the crux of the race, and why I think Trump will likely prevail. A trend that started in 2016 will go full bore this time.

    537. MrVito says:

557 yeah… the GOP was down in counties like Marquette and within 8 in Oakland. the first time he screwed with the data, the GOP was ahead in all the swing counties, but down 18 points in Oakland. Both times the total was R+2. Now it’s reversed again and the total spread went to +5D.

      That’s some mighty special sauce.

    538. MrVito says:

Similar anomalies happened in WI when he jimmied the data. WOW counties went from killing it, to meh, to killing it again… WI3 went Red and then back again. All the while he moved the data from D+2 to D+10.

    539. MrVito says:

Just to be clear, those things didn’t happen from actual voting… those happened from what he called the “Biden Model”. And then I don’t know what the second one is… Biden Model on Roids?

    540. Trump says:

      Cruisin to LANDSLIDE

    541. Chicon says:

      Barnes on Twitter….

Are there *any* non-polling, historically validated data points favoring Biden?

I’d be curious if Robbie could answer this query? Anyone else?

    542. Pitchaboy says:

I thought Targetsmart is based on real returned votes.

    543. Chicon says:

Vito, messing with the model during the event is no bueno.

    544. MrVito says:

Real returned votes don’t tell you their partyID.

    545. Chicon says:

Pitch – so did I. But few states have registration by party available to the world. So, TargetSmart says that they use modeling and Big Data to predict whether a voter is an R, D, or I. Changing the numbers between receiving data dumps from the state is highly suspicious, imo.

    546. Pitchaboy says:

Then it is nothing more than educated guesswork. I will wait for real returns.

    547. PhilS says:

They are just making it up. As always.

99% chance of Hillary being president. 99%. On Nov 8, 2016.

    548. Chicon says:

      From the TargetSmart page…..

“Speaking of partisanship, we are often asked how we know who these candidates are supporting. In short, we don’t. The secrecy of the ballots is always protected. We don’t know how someone votes, we just know if they voted. That said, by relying on a combination of partisan voter registration, in those states offering voters that opportunity, and modeled partisanship, we have a good sense of the probability that a voter is supporting one party or another.”

      Educated guesswork indeed.

    549. PhilS says:

Remember, the 99% Hillary win was also based on “a good sense of probability”.

    550. MrVito says:

NBC is borrowing the TargetSmart methodology, but apparently without these additional changes, so you can see the difference the massaging made.

    551. MrVito says:

      Without the special sauce

      WI D+2
      MI R+2
      OH R+6

      With the special sauce

      WI D+10
      MI D+5
      OH R+2

Supposedly these were the three states that were changed… but after people started talking about how good Texas was looking, now it is R+7 compared to NBC R+11

    552. PhilS says:

It is the Nate Silver Secret Sauce.

“Trump has less than 5% chance of getting the GOP nomination.”

Based on a “good sense of probability”.

People don’t focus on the states and margins because it’s not sexy, but most polls were 2-3-4-5 times standard deviations away from actual results.

E.g. MO polls ranged from -1% to 15% Trump margin, and Trump won by 19. Which means every poll was garbage.

    553. MrVito says:

Look for GA to change tomorrow LOL.

    554. Pitchaboy says:

So the sauce always works in one direction.

    555. Chicon says:

573 – the fact that the “model” changed makes BOTH sets of numbers highly suspect, imo.

    556. Gatorbillyjoel says:

States with actual voter registration show Democrats with massive leads and running away with it. States with no registration and using the modeling show smaller Democrat leads. Whatever model they are using is clearly off. Democrats lead either way.

    557. phoenixrisen says:

So Vito, the special sauce consists of enthusiastic Democratic turnout vs depressed or stagnant GOP base and no special sauce is enthusiastic GOP turnout and depressed or stagnant Democratic turnout. The reality from the ground via registration and VBM clearly favors the latter. What I am clearly seeing is bending of the data by MSM pollsters and Silver to keep up the “Trump’s loss is inevitable” like what was seen in 2016. Problem for them is he has no scandal and there is a major October surprise of a massive criminal scale working against Biden that makes Hillary’s for now look like small potatoes and the GOP is going to drip out every other day to keep in the news and PR cycle until Election Day which will kill Biden’s chances with swing voters. These BS stories about the GOP and Trump campaign staff bailing out on him is a replay of 3016. The parallels are so striking. As of today Trump’s winning margin looks to be larger given the great diminishment of Never Trumper and libertarian voters with AA and Hispanics voting in higher numbers for Trump. I just don’t see how Biden pulls this off. The fundraising advantage Biden has had in the last couple of months is really worthless as TV ads have reached diminishing returns and Biden has no ground game in a lot of states compared to Trump’s which was meticulously built over the years of his term. You just cannot build a ground game that fast as they take so much time structuring and getting operational.

    558. Chicon says:

Florida registers by party. So far, the D/R/I split is 49.5/29.9/19.4. In 2016 it was 39/33/23. So, more D votes as a percentage so far this year. However, R’s made a large gain in registrations; and historically new registrants vote at a very high percentage. This strongly suggests that there is a very large pool of R’s who will vote but have yet to do so.

    559. Gatorbillyjoel says:

      Chance Of Winning The Election:

      Biden 88%
      Trump 11%

      Electoral votes:
      Biden 357
      Trump 181

      @jhkersting Forecast

    560. Chicon says:

The “model” for D/R/I in FL so far is 54/39/7. The registration D/R/I in FL so far is 49.5/30/19. Why the difference?

    561. phoenixrisen says:

gator, the raw data via registration says the Dems get crushed. I mean, look at the Florida registration numbers alone. Wisconsin is lost for Biden as the WOW counties registration alone are going to wipe out whatever Dane County comes in at and then what is left is heavy red rural Wisconsin. Same goes for Michigan a.k.a Wayne County vs. the rest of the state and in Pennsylvania with urban Philly vs. the Philly suburbs (Bucks county) vs. the rest of the state. It’s just not there for Biden.

    562. phoenixrisen says:

      – 581 assumes the faulty high D turnout and depressed R turnout like the MSM pollsters have been doing for months. The reality on the ground says something else

    563. Boog says:

So they have to change the model because the R numbers are too strong.

      What does that tell you?

    564. lisab says:

i bought a new thesaurus today, but it is just terrible. also, it is terrible.

Jack Kersting is 19 years old and is now being used as an expert forecaster by the left.

What that tells me about Clinton is that they are running over in resources to deploy and want to maximize those. They must have numbers that indicate putting even more money and people to the states you mentioned won’t make a difference. Therefore, you take the opportunity to expand.

National surveys are always leading indicators and in the last ten days Trump has tanked. Just look at NBC/WSJ and Monmouth. PA VBM numbers does not look good but, I think this has been pointed out before:

Philly+Allegany make up around 51% of the VBM vote so far while in 2016 Philly+Allegany make up around 22% of the overall PA vote.

    616. jaichind says:

Something similar in MI but not as dramatic Wayne+Washtenaw make up 20.4% of the VBM vote but in 2016 made up 15.7% of the total MI vote.

    617. Steant1965 says:

If these PA numbers were thought meaningful by the two campaigns, Obama would not be rallying in Philly. That itself demonstrates that the Biden campaign has not yet locked up the black/urban vote. Otherwise, Obama would be used in a different place. Doesn’t mean I wouldn’t wish to see something different in these VBM numbers, but the fact that the left is also saying to ignore them gives me comfort.

    618. jaichind says:

WI numbers. Dane+Milwaukee is 32.7% of the VBM so far but in 2016 Dane+Milwaukee is 25.2% of the total vote.

    619. jaichind says:

In FL the VBM seems balanced. Miami-Dade+Broward+Palm Beach VBM number seems to match 2016 numbers which is around 26% of the FL total.

In the rustbelt the VBM numbers weighted toward Dem areas the seems the narrative could be
      a) High Dem enthusiasm surge
      b) Dem push for VBM cannibalize the election day vote which shows up more in Dem heavy areas in relative VBM numbers

The MSM polls will say a) since that is consistent with their polls. Those of us that think the MSM polls underestimate Trump will tend to think it is b)

    622. PhilS says:

      He is an idiot.

    623. PhilS says:

    624. Hugh says:

When the majority of dems plan to vbm and the majority of reps plan to vote in person these blue areas need to have huge vbm margins compared to 2016 or this race will be over before Election Day starts.

    625. Steant1965 says:

Why are these numbers meaningless? Just look at the numbers in MN from the Iron Range. Those numbers are definitely going to show more D’s voting because the folks who live there are registered D’s, including the D’s mayors of those towns. So when we look at those numbers, they don’t tell us who the D’s are voting for. One would think if the D mayors endorsed Trump then many of the D’s who live there are also voting for Trump.

    628. Tina says:

(I don’t agree with Cotto on Nc) ***

    629. Pitchaboy says:

Nate Siilverhack knows D have no ground game. They need huge margins by Election Day. D plus 31 VBM reflects huge numbers bi-coastal. 2016 cannot be compared to 2020. 2016 had no VBM or very little of it and had a far better D ground game.

    630. PresidentPaul! says:

I’m just hoping for some form of divided government, and if democrats do win, a margin that hopefully won’t lead to chaos.

Of course they vote so party line on everything that a slim majority might be the same as 70 dem senators.

    631. MichiganGuy says:

      * BOOM *

#654 “changes of voter registration (change in registered D, R, D-R), is a significant variable in predicting the voting outcomes, a critical observation which virtually no existing polls takes into account since it would indicate that Republicans have a high likelihood of winning virtually all battleground states!

    632. Wes says:

Tina, Cotto should compare the raw numbers in NC against the past. Dems currently are ahead by 286k ballots in NC. That’s within the 250k-300k range they’ve enjoyed every cycle since 2010. (In 2008, Dems won early voting by 675k votes.) Since Dems are getting only the early voting advantage they’ve gotten in years when Republicans won, I don’t think Cotto should be pessimistic.

    635. dblaikie says:

Well the first day of early in person voting is mostly in for except for Washoe and Nye Counties. Now in the VBM vote the Dems have a 37000 vote lead. So keep that in mind.

Today Clark County (Las Vegas) had 27000 and the dems won by a close 2000 votes. However in 2016 39000 votes were cast in Clark and the dems won by 10000 votes. The cow counties are going to be about the reddest place in America and on the first day Trump was better than 3 to 1. Right now because of that the GOP is 1500 ahead in early in person voting. That could climb higher when Washoe and Nye county report.

Take aways so far. Well the huge story is that the weakness in this cycle of the Culinary Workers is laid bare. If the GOP continues to win in this early in person vote it will be a first. So far good for the GOP.

A further observation about Nevada. In the past Sunday’s during in person early voting were huge for the Dems because of many AA Churches scheduling “souls to the polls” events. Let’s hope more Never Trumpers realize what the stakes are here…

“I enthusiastically voted for Gary Johnson in 2016. I wrote articles opposing Donald Trump’s Presidency and welcomed the title of never-Trumper. I was a part of the system. I thought Donald Trump was the enemy, even up until the point I was filling out my 2020 ballot. My ballot this year, for some reason, had down-ticket races first and Presidential last. I was excited to fill out my ballot for some of my very close friends running for office. It wasn’t until I got through the ballot and realized I hadn’t voted for President. Except that I did. I had voted for another four years of Donald Trump and Mike Pence without even thinking about it. That was the moment I unplugged.

I realized Donald Trump isn’t the enemy. The media-created system is. Donald Trump is simply the tool for fighting it. That… That’s why I voted for Donald Trump. That’s why I want another four years of disruption because I refuse to be part of the system that perpetually divides Americans. The system knows we all hate that division so it embedded code to convince us to think that if we maybe vote for a particular candidate that the division will go away.

But remember when that division really took off though: During Barack Obama’s presidency. And now his heir apparent is waiting in the wings. Why would we think for a single second that electing Biden would make it better? What they are engaging in is ideological gaslighting. They are making you think that your anger at them is unjustified and that voting for someone other than Donald Trump is the cure. You’d be crazy to think that Trump leaving office fixes this. It doesn’t. In 2008, it was Vote for Obama or you’re a racist. Now it is Vote for Biden or you are filled with hatred. Same message, different time.

If you’ve read this far, you’re probably expecting some football spiking ending to this realization. There really isn’t one. All I realized is that no matter what the media says about Donald Trump, it probably contains some truth. I just don’t care anymore because, for them, it was never about the truth in the first place. It was about control. Do I love Donald Trump? Gosh No. But I am starting to believe that he’s the only thing standing between us and the media’s efforts for total ideological annihilation.”

Updated EV numbers (ballots returned) via NBC News voting results tracker based on party registration:

      MI: GOP 41 Dem 39 Ind 20
      PA: GOP 17 Dem 75 Ind 8
      WI: GOP 38 Dem 40 Ind 22
      FL: GOP 30 Dem 49 Ind 21
      NC: GOP 24 Dem 47 Ind 29
      NV: GOP 25 Dem 50 Ind 25
      MN: GOP 29 Dem 48 Ind 23

So, what I can glean from these numbers is Democratic voters are quite Covid conscious(?) than the GOP voter is? The glaring problem for the Biden campaign is the large gains in GOP voter registrations across the battleground states, most notably Florida and Pennsylvania by the Trump campaign. The Biden campaign is in huge trouble in Michigan and Wisconsin. Biden campaign scrambling to get resources to Michigan was a huge telltale sign of the trouble but it would appear to be too late.

Too many people on Twitter and here are comparing current state EV votes/percentages vs Final 2016 EV total votes/percentages.

To get the precise comparison you need to evaluate percentages of EV by political party 16 days from election in 2016 vs today’s numbers which are 16 days away from election.

Pretty much in every state the DEM advantages in EV will continue to shrink and until Election Day.

Dems EV numbers/percentages right now would look good for them if it was day before election…but it’s not.

      Biden is in deep trouble.

Well here is the new update from Nevada. We are still missing the Washoe County vote. As of now the Clark County vote shows a 32000 dem lead. In total the dem lead is 40000 votes. This is the combination of vote by mail and one day of early in person voting.

Now here is the bottom line in 2016 the dem lead in early voting for Clark County was 73000. That is called in Nevada circles the “Clark County Fire Wall”. In the past you needed to get above 70000 votes to feel confident that the State will go blue. With that cushion the cow counties cannot make up the difference. However this year the cow counties may produce even more GOP votes. In addition Washoe County in 2016 went for Hillary by 3000 votes and I believe that will change. If that is true the vote needed for the firewall will go up. So far the cow counties after one day are huge — between 3 to 1 and 4 to 1 GOP.

    720. phoenixrisen says:

#744 — Exactly. Trying to be completely objective, the big thing that I cannot get by for Biden is the voter registration numbers the GOP gained by substantial margins in the battleground states and the utter fallacy of digital contacts to
do registration claiming the GOP is Covid irresponsible rather than person to person door knocking and face-to-face guidance to get registrations done. Voter registration is indicative of voter intensity and enthusiasm for the candidate. Obama blew the doors off McCain in 2008 and it was sort of blah for both sides in 2012 (that was a weird election), then in 2016 both sides were energized but indies were turned off by Clinton. That will likely be the post election story of 2020.

    724. Boog says:

      Good article:

I think it explains a fundamental truth about this year’s election: the 46% of the popular vote whichTrump received in 2016 is the floor. There is no way that number will not increase this year. Lotta talk about trump losing the suburban women vote, because he is rude. The MSM needs to create some way to rationalize the new narrative of trump losing voters. But that is the 2020 version of the 2016 myth that Clinton would cruise to victory on a wave of Latino voters. And it is just that, a myth.

Trump PV will be up at 2%, maybe 3%, which means electoral vote landslide.

    726. dblaikie says:

I think that he is worried about the handicap of not having the Culinary Workers Union getting their members to the polls via bus during early voting. In 2016 the first day in Clark County the dem lead was close 10000 votes! These mail in ballots have been coming in for some time now and the Clark County fire wall is only at 32000. When the Washoe and Nye county votes are tabulated the GOP will actually have won the first day of in person voting.

Now Ralston does say that two days have not been posted by Clark for vbm yet. That may increase that wall to around 35000 votes. What Ralston in terrified is that 32000 dem is a cannibalized vote and with the majority of GOP inperson votes coming in the “fire wall” will fall short in two weeks and the fire wall will be breached.

I simply don’t see how Trump doesn’t surpass the Romney/ McCain pv which should be sufficient. Thanks

    737. Wes says:

The good thing about NC is that we have meticulous data on our voting demographic information, thus making it easy to compare past elections. Republicans approximated these early voting numbers in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2018 and won each time.

Cotto should take that into account.

    741. Wes says:

That seems like a subjective analysis, Tina. I’d have to know what context he meant it in. The NCGOP has turned out its voters and won far more than it’s lost over the last decade. The current voting numbers reflect recent outcomes.

I’d like to know how Cotto concluded what he said.

Is it because Republicans are almost 300k behind in early voting? They’re always that far behind in early voting. If that’s the basis of his analysis then he’s going into histrionics over nothing.
